"During the French revolution, they thought... "During the revolution, they did..."
Wait. Stop. Pause. The French revolution is a thing that lasted 10 years. You cannot give any blanked statement about it as a whole, because there were so many things going on. Things generally common at one point were unheard of in another. To say anything about frev, you must specify these things:
1. When it's happening? (Not just a year; a specific month at least).
2. Where it's happening? (Paris? Near a battlefield? Somewhere else?)
3. Who is saying/doing this? (Different people had very different takes and tried to influence things in different ways).
4. (of course, should come as #0) How do we know/what is the source?
(This is half a joke post and not an instruction on how to interact here, lol. Just a reminder that we can't give blanket statements about revolution as a whole because so many things differed from month to month and place to place and person to person. The more I read about it, the more I realize it.)

Its so so frustrating when white Irish leftists think LGBT rights are the be all and end all of everything. like why do I see people all the time responding to fascists and white supremacist 'irish first' racists with pride flags like ye are not the target here cop on! presumably these fascists and white supremacist are homophobic and transphobic but in all fairness like ye must realise ye would be a hundred time safer in a crowd of these white supremacists as a white Irish person regardless of your sexuality than any non white irish person or immigrant would be. Put more energy into protecting the non white non Irish people in your communities that are being targeted by these white supremacists than you do into making everything about yourself

my official opinion on the les mis musical is that most of the music is very good and the lyrics were much better in the original french but when you have actual fascist would-be emperors using the number sung by the revolutionaries as their walk-on song you can no longer argue that it has not chosen profit over message

Vulgar accelerationists (the kind who take accelerationism to mean "make bad things happen more") must be struggling to explain how France, which has a much better welfare system and workers rights than America, seems far closer to a revolutionary moment.

“There were two ‘Reigns of Terror,’ if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the ‘horrors’ of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.”
-Mark Twain
This quote, of course, is referring to the period of the French Revolution known as the Reign of Terror, which caused many people at the time to be apprehensive of future revolutions against the monarchies of Europe. Twain is commenting here on the forgotten, true “Reign of Terror”—the thousand years of barbaric feudalism which preceded and, in fact, necessitated the revolution. What we now call the “Reign of Terror” (the series of trials and executions during the French Revolution) was an act of justice, not cruelty.
Reactionaries talk until they’re blue in the face about the supposed brutality of the Russian, Cuban, and Chinese revolutions which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over, but no one ever mentions the unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which they ended.

Is “the Left” SECRETLY, SUBCONSCIOUSLY coded to be EVIL???
Clickbaity title aside, something my writer brain noticed for years was a weird trend of “leftist” terms actually being words with some built-in negativity, so I finally decided to research deeper and see what I could find. Naturally, I couldn’t not drop my sense of humor, so there is plenty of that to keep things light-hearted and breezy for any casual audience member.
This is actually my very first time doing a think piece like this. Normally, my content has been primarily video games or superheroes, and I think it’s about time to start branching out with things like this. BaneShake, as a channel, is supposed to represent me as best a possible, and this stuff is certainly part of BaneShake’s Charlie, so I plan on doing more of these in the future too.

The European elections are creating a crowded field of contenders as four political fronts, French President Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance party, the National Rally and to a lesser degree the Socialist Party and the Republicans, seek political office

Not sure why this always happens with him but I have enjoyed a lot of the movies involved so it's fine
