ADHD money/budgeting system I'm currently using for my benefit is going well (I've been using it for like half a year now?), and I wanna recommend it.
You Need a Budget is EXCELLENT. 10/10 do recommend. Uhhh rambling about it and my generic disclaimers + gushing extensively under the cut but TL;DR I think it's great for ADHD ppl, I've used it for 6+ months now and I find it super SUPER helpful. also weirdly fun.
DISCLAIMERS:
Budgeting helps you understand/know your money, it can't make money appear where there is none.
Everyone should learn to budget even if you don't have much money (especially then)
This is NOT a magic trick solution. Just like everything else, it is an assistive tool. This is one of those adult things we can't simply opt out of without negative consequences, though.
My advice is based on something I am currently able to do. That is, I can spend an amount of money on this specific thing that works well for me. If you have no extra money to spend then previously I was tracking things in a notebook. So you can still do this.
I believe Dave Ramsey is a fundie fraud/hack and no one should listen to him about money.
DID YOU KNOW THEY CANCELLED MINT???
Okay? OKAY.
Ahem.
You Need a Budget is EXCELLENT.
It is called YNAB for short. The first 34 days are your free trial, and that is my referral link. If anyone uses it and then signs up for a subscription, we both get a month free. Also you can share a subscription with up to six people (account owner can see everything but individuals can pick and choose what they share amongst each other) so like...idk your whole polycule can be on one account. Or your kids. Whatever.
If you are a student, it's free for a year. If you aren't, a subscription is $99 for a year (paid all at once) or $14.99 monthly, which is equivalent to paying Amazon prime. Go cancel Prime and get this instead tbh.
They got a whole article just on ynab and ADHD. They also have like...a big variety of ways to access their info? They have a book, podcast episodes, YouTube videos, blog posts, q&A's, free live workshops you can join (you can request live captioning), emails they can send (if you want) a wiki, and so on. They got workshops on all kinds of topics!!
So whatever ends up working for your brain. It also has a matching app.
If you lost Mint this year they have a gajillion things for moving from Mint.
Also they have a "got five minutes?" Page which has a slider so you can decide how much attention/time you have before going on lol:
Tumblr media
They only have 4 rules of the budget, they're simple and practical, and it doesn't get judgey or like...mean about your spending.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Give every dollar a job 2. Embrace your true expenses 3. Roll with the punches 4. Age your money.
THEN THEY BREAK THESE DOWN INTO SMALL STEPS FOR YOU! They even have a printable! Also these rules are great because there's built in expectations that things WILL HAPPEN and it's NOT all or nothing with a fear of total collapse into failure. Reality and The Plan don't always align, especially if you have ADHD. So it's directing our energy towards the true expenses and not clinging to The Plan!! over reality.
You can automate a lot of shit (you can sync with your bank accounts just like mint, but also automate tagging the categories of regular expenses/transactions). And if for whatever reason you accidentally do something that makes the budget look weird or wrong:
A) you can usually fix it somehow OR b) they have like, a button you can press that gives you a clean slate and archives the previous version of the budget for you.
So if you forget for a few weeks or months, or accidentally input something wildly wrong, or just don't want to look at a really terrible month anymore and feel like you need a fresh start you can usually either fix it or start fresh which is really nice.
The app also (for whatever reason) scratches my itch to have things like...have incentives or little game-like goals in a way mint never did? I don't know why. Filling up the bars or putting money into the categories to cover my expenses is satisfying lmao. You can also make a big wish expense category for all the fun shit you want, and fund it whenever you can and then you can see the little bar go up and that's fun.
Anyways I've been using it for like 6+ months now and I think it's really helped me when I use it.

just gonna make a fucking. megapost of affiliate and referral links for anyone who wants to support me and also get deals or whatever. i'm gonna try to be pretty clear about what i get for things also.
you get a thing, i get a thing:
Everand, formerly Scribd: read 'unlimited' (ish) books, use my link to get two free months and I also get a free month.
Mubi: it's not movies, it's cinema (it's movies). Use my link and we both get a free month.
Reel Paper: it's bamboo toilet paper with no plastic packaging and so far it's been the only one I like. It's a subscription and also spendy compared to regular toilet paper but I'm spoiled now. Use my link and we both get $15 off.
MeUndies: it's the fucking podcast underwear. I know. I know. They had a Halloween collection and I'm weak. It's so comfy I'm mad about it. Use my link and you get 20% off your first order, I get a $20 credit, enough to buy One Whole Underwear.
HelloFresh: pretty sure they fucking suck on labor issues so I wouldn't link it but I can't say no to free food. They say my promo link gets you a free box but I'm pretty sure that's a lie and you actually get 50% off your first two boxes. Anyway use this link gets me a $35 credit.
Unique Vintage: it's clothes, I like the collabs and am still mad about missing out on the Pusheen skirt. Don't buy anything full price imho, quality can vary WILDLY. My link will get you $10 off a $75 order and I get a $10 credit. Not the best deal but whatever.
YNAB: I was spending too much money on podcast underwear so I signed up for You Need A Budget to trick me into thinking money is real. So far it is the first thing to have ever successfully tricked me into treating money as real, and my debt situation has improved exponentially. It's $15 a month or $99 a year and my link gets you a free month, if you sign up after the trial I also get a free month.
ProtonMail: privacy-focused alternative to gmail, switching is easy peasy and it's free. Use my link to get a free month of the fancy paid version, and if you decide to sign up I get $10 off my renewal (because I pay for the fancy version).
i get straight cash:
Humble Bundle and the Humble Store: use my link to buy some video games or book bundles and I get a cut. Signing up for Humble Choice after clicking my link also gets me paid. This is literally the only referral program that pays me worth a damn.
the amazon quarantine:
amazon sucks and doesn't pay for shit except 'bounties' so ignoring all of this is fine actually. i get pennies for most things. it's bad.
Here's the fucking. 'influencer page' that Amazon gave me. I don't really know how it works. Anyway the rest of this is bounties.
You can use SNAP EBT on Amazon, apparently if you register a card using my link I get five bucks.
Audible Plus, if you use my link and sign up for a free trial I get $5 and if you actually pay I get another $10.
Audible Premium Plus is the same deal.
Amazon Prime Video, I get $3 if you sign up for a free trial.
Audible Gift Subscription, buy one for someone and I get either $8 or $10 depending on whether it's 12 months or not.
non-referral gifts:
maybe you would rather just send me a dollar or some cookies or whatever so i'll put all that here
I've got tipping enabled on this post lmao
Here's my ko-fi
Here's my Amazon wishlist, I have the occasional expensive thing on there because I also use it for things I plan to buy myself eventually
Here's my Throne, I have surprise gifts enabled so in theory you can send me random weird shit as a prank if that's something that appeals to you

Hii, i love your work and everything, but i need your help.
So, I don't know how much you know prime video, but do you know, if I'm on a free trial, can i download episodes and then i enjoy the series offline? Cause thats how i want to watch Good Omens, but I'm not sure how it works (And does it count? You know, for S3?)
(and sorry for any mistakes, English is not my first language)
Love you, byee♥️🪽

Since I got an Amazon free trial for a month for Deadloch, I'm looking for other Amazon shows to watch-- I'm about halfway through the Peripheral, and just having a really frustrating time.
I've read the first seven William Gibson novels (and all the Burning Chrome era short stories). I'm a fan and would read more, if time/attention/focus permitted. But... I never read the Peripheral so I don't know if I'm wrong, but I just don't hear Gibson in this. (I'd say the situation is a lot like Fargo where I've been miserable the couple times I tried to watch the TV show, as a Coens fan, just yelling "not right! not right!!! unclean!!!").
One, none of the plot moves make sense. No one's acting rationally considering the tech in play. (Why shoot a girl into a Peripheral if you can call her on the phone??). But okay, fine, accepting that there's some wonkiness so that you have a story-- I'll accept that, I'm not a killjoy. But tonally, it's off. I think of Gibson as ... cooler (not in the Merce Cunningham sense, in the fridge sense). The characters are all intelligent and oftentimes talented, but they're not... running around shouting their emotions at each other. And then the other players on the board tend to be global, and they're not like... whimsical. The future has happened, and people are sometimes struck by it, but theyre not, like, good golly tell me what it feels like. (One of my favorite scenes is the one in... maybe Virtual Light or one from that trilogy, a guy just wandering into an art gallery and seeing some weird-ass shit and just kinda being like "uhhh I guess"... it's just a thing that happens in the book).
Everything feels lived-- I think of him trying to be a realist writer, but for an imaginary country; Dorothea Lange or somebody, but for near-future hypotheticals. At least in the books I read where he was trending more and more towards the "present" (the last one I read was his 9/11 novel, you know?). Again, I don't know where he's gone since, but...
In this show, there's a whimsical London cast, with like a dandy man saying he's a Klepto gangster or some shit. There's a slimy modern-day rural gangster who murders drug guys in the past in like some sub-sub-sub-Breaking Bad fashion. There's fucking little kids having post-apocalyptic hijinx. I feel like they gave a William Gibson novel to fucking Neal Gaiman fans. Those are not the same writer, even if they're both genre!
You get glimmers of Gibson in the brother, I think, the guy from Midsommar-- I think he's the best thing on the show. (Though I'm generally pro-Chloe Moretz). But he's doing these scenes of like, "I'm going to act all nice but you better play ball because I have a sniper who's got a gun pointed at you" ... Which could work if executed a certain way, but as it is, just feels like TV bullshit.
I think Gibson presents challenges in adaptation, because it's ... you know, there are book pleasures and there are TV pleasures. I don't think of him as a Stephen King, who is just an engine of Story, you know? Where...if you adapt King, you can do it well, you can do it badly, you can do some experimental thing like the Timekeepers of Eternity, etc., because he's going to give you a story to jump off of. Gibson for me is all tone, and trying to create a very purposeful effect, of trying to see the present with new eyes. I think he has utilized pulp, in neuromancer obviously, but I don't think he's a pulp writer. And they're trying to make pulp out of it and it just... it feels all wrong.
Amazon Prime's not worth the spend, as far as I can tell, generally, though. I looked if they had any Leos Carax movies and it was like "oh, you ever see Boy Meets Girl?" And I was like, no, that sounds awesome! "Oh we don't have it-- it's not available in your region." Why ... why is it telling me about it then???? Amazon Prime video is just being like "You heard of this movie, bro? I wonder what it's like... How does it feel to want things???" Deadloch and then nada, so far.
Anyways: television!!!!

This show ruined me, this little thing specifically addressing how season 2 ended.I almost regret making a tumblr.
I knew of Good Omens for a while, it’s right up my alley, I just never watched it for some reason. (Probably because it’s on Amazon Prime Video…I go the free trial JUST to watch this show) Now it’s all I can think about. Honestly a damn nastily good work of art.
I’m supposedly getting the book as well, we’ll see.
(Ink/Gore/Whatever-the-Helltober will continue, I’m planning to post a week’s work of prompts on each weekend, I’m getting increasingly busy and don’t have the time to post and/or do them during the week. My little “free” time during the weekdays has been spent rewatching a few minutes of Good Omens or trying to fucking relax so I don’t combust.)

solrosan's fandom year 2023
Wow, we're doing this late this year!
Because of ReasonsTM, this year has been pretty low on fannish activities, but there are still some things to sum up!
2023 was the year that I…
…stepped down as an OTW Translation volunteer (because of ReasonsTM)
…started a tag that people say they smile/giggle at every time they see
…set my own NaNoWriMo goal at 6000 words and reached 13113!
…unfollowed and refollowed Neil Gaiman more times that I care to remember due to Tumblr being its usual bitchy self (yes, this was related to the Good Omens’ premiere).
…used a free trial on Amazon Prime (also related to Good Omens)
…bought my mum a Christmas present from her current fandom
…realised my April Fool’s joke backfired hard
…gave into bandom
…almost allowed myself to become a kpop blog for real
…spent so many nights watching concert videos
(…actually watched so much INFINITE on YouTube that their algorithm has run out of content to show me)
…fell in love with Richard Armitage and his singing voice
…realised Spotify wraps funny due to the point above
…finally named a very important OC
…found my portable HD again
…had the intention to do Whumpril
…honestly believed I’d finish THE femslash fic
…started posting old fics
...watched more TV than I think I ever have
...can't remember a single thing I watched
(...except Good Omens, Bloodhounds, season 2 of D.P., Moving, and half of the last The Crown season)
...finally moved into the cabin with @elletromil and @insanereddragon (or at least renamed the chat after the day dream)
Stats:
I posted 7 955 words on AO3
They were split over four works
One is new, three are reworked and posted
All of them are in The King: Eternal Monarch
The engagement with them are so low that I won't do a most hits/comment/kudosed
This is the tumblr post with most notes from 2023
(It's also my main project this year, I'm very pleased with the result so far. Still a WIP though.)
Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone who I've talked to this year! You've kept me sane and you've kept me connected to myself. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm so sorry if you feel like I've drifted off.
Special shout out to @blau-s and all our discussions about our little AUs. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for listening! We will finish them one day! (Right?)

You wanna rant?
YES
So my computer's charger was on the way out. Combination of the charger itself breaking and the port for it losing grip.
Okay, fine. It's got a USB-C. I can charge with that. Internet says my laptop model supports USB-C charging.
Bought a USB-C charger.
Plugged it in.
Didn't work. Off-brand, the on-brand one was $15 more expensive, the gamble didn't pay off.
Low on money, but have enough to order another (not USB-C) charger. So I figure "fine, I'll return it, get my $40something dollars back, that way it's still like I only bought one charger, even if it falls out."
Was told by Amazon that they'd charge it to my debit card. The one they literally have on file.
Returned the USB-C charger.
"Your refund is being processed! It will take between 3-5 business days."
"Refund issued! $43.09 issued on Jun 30, 2023"
Saturday. Sunday. Monday comes around, no money. That's fine, it's only been one business day, I usually get my rent money on the 6th.
Tuesday's a holiday.
Wednesday, Thursday. Okay, we've hit 3 business days. I'll get it soon, right?
Friday, nothing. It's now the 7th.
"Check the status of my refund."
Chatbot. Prompt list. I can deal with that. "I haven't gotten my refund yet."
"Please wait 3-5 business days for your refund after your return is processed." Only option is "Okay, thanks!" Option closes window.
I do not want to thank Amazon. I want an option for "this was not helpful, let me talk to a human." There are no humans on the Amazon website.
Saturday, Sunday.
Hi! It's now Monday. It has been 11 days since I returned my item. I message my bank; "hey, is my return on hold? If so, can you tell me when it'll be released? Thanks."
Two answers. Thankfully from humans.
"We don't hold returns/refunds, sorry. Check with Amazon?"
"Amazon refunds things through gift cards, we don't have it."
What.jpg
Rush to Amazon website.
"Return received on: Jul 8, 2023"
Scour the website for half an hour because NOTHING except "buy now" is intuitive.
Tumblr media
Hey??? I did not agree to this??? Give me back my money???
There is apparently a very convoluted way to get your money back from Amazon. From what I understand, you transfer a gift card to Amazon Pay, then verify yourself through Amazon Pay, then transfer it from there to a bank.
The online articles say to do it through the app.
I download the app. I follow the instructions.
The dropdown option mentioned does not exist.
Back to square one. I do more research on desktop.
Problem 1. There is no button for transferring funds to Amazon Pay from Amazon. I have searched. The site is as bare-bones minimalist as it gets.
Problem 2. "Can I withdraw from my Amazon Pay?" "Yes! Click this link to learn more." The link leads to a FAQ page instead of an actual help article. The word "withdraw" is nowhere in the entire wall of text. I have to comb through it manually. There is no withdrawal help.
Problem 3. Verifying yourself enough to transfer to a bank account involves pictures of cards I do not have, tying a selfie to my account, and having a video chat with a live agent.
I would rather eat cement.
$43.09 gift card balance.
"Would you like a week-long free trial of Prime?"
Closes laptop. Forcefully.

Ok, someone is using my Amazon Prime Video account! Last week, I got an email saying I subscribed to a free trial of Brit Box, which I definitely did not do. It was weird, but I just assumed maybe it was some kind of mistake. I canceled it, there was no charge since the free trial hadn't run out yet, so no big deal.
Now today I get an email saying I have until December 14 to watch my rental of Inception, which I definitely did not rent! (side note: very tricky of Amazon to send an email reminding me to watch a rented movie one day after the deadline for canceling an unwatched rental for a refund) So I go onto my account and look at video purchases and rentals and there are 5 rentals and one purchased movie since October!
I share my account with my mom, but she swears she didn't do any of this. Most of the movies are not her taste anyway. But then I remember that I gave an old apple tv device to my uncle a couple years ago. It may very well have still been logged into my Amazon account at the time...but I swear I've changed my Amazon password since then! Also, why would he wait like 2 or more years to start renting and purchasing movies?
Regardless, I have changed my password again and added a purchase restriction that requires a pin. Also, the old apple tv was still a registered device, so I removed that. I don't really want to accuse my uncle of this, so I guess I'll just hope it stops now 😂

okay i have a free trial of prime bc i wanted to watch good omens and now i'm trying to see if there's anything else i want to watch on there and this is literally the worst streaming platform i've ever experienced
half (edit: most of) the stuff on there still costs extra money and/or needs a free trial of some additional thing within prime
some things still have ads
is absolutely convinced i'm in the republic of ireland for some reason even though all of my amazon addresses and settings are uk, which might be why
for some shows it claims to have a show but actually only has a behind the scenes documentary for that show and doesn't have any episodes of the show itself
plus the most confusing interface which makes it extremely hard to browse and see what's even there, possibly because it wants to trick me into accidentally paying extra for something
at least this will mean i cancel the trial with zero regrets about losing prime video because literally. what even is the point

It's great that we're getting all this queer representation, but if we want to keep it going, we have to show the Big Companies that we love and support it and want more. We have to keep the demand going (especially with the strikes going on).
In today's day and age, shows and movies that don't generate revenue simply get nixed. And pirating doesn't generate revenue. Instead, get yourself a free trial for Netflix and/or Amazon Prime (all you need is an email address and a credit card that won't be charged), and you can even cancel it immediately afterwards without cutting your trial short (at least with Prime Video and other services I've used, not 100% sure about Netflix).
Also, with the SAG-AFTRA (actors) and WGA (writers) strikes going on, we have to continue the demand for new (non-AI) media, so that the studios realize they have something to lose and have an incentive to negotiate. (See for example Neil Gaiman's posts about this.)
Watch Heartstopper on Netflix. Watch Good Omens and RW&RB on Amazon Prime.

I hate the state of subscription tv streaming so much and I know everyone hates it but I feel like as a Canadian I get to hate it an extra layer because we don't have the same streaming services the us does, we have weird alternative ones.
For shits and giggles I decided to look up what I would have to do to watch Fionna and Cake legally in Canada, you see, HBO max isn't available here, instead we have a service called Crave which has all the HBO max shows and I have on and off been debating subscribing to it for a while (look I know pirating things is free but sometimes I wanna watch things easily on my phone or tv without 5 extra steps of file transferring)
So I'm like "huh I bet it's on crave and crave also has all these other shows I really like, maybe I should get the free trial"
Except it's NOT on crave
It's on Fubo
Which is (checks notes) a live sports streaming tv service. (Like it's not just sports but live sports seems to be like 90% of what it advertises itself as)
Because that makes so much sense.
Or you can get it as an ADD ON package with Amazon Prime video which means essentially paying for TWO streaming services to get 1 thing.
Yo ho ho etc
