gonna talk about physical releases of Sonic media because having bought the 4K blu-rays for the 2 movies a few days ago I felt like researching what was available and planning what to buy because I want to own it ALL
AoStH is nice and easy because it has a like modern release with literally everything on it so like the pilot episode and Christmas special are included, and it’s all on blu-ray too and has actually nice cover art which from my research is not a guarantee at all lmao. So yeah this is on my like Amazon wishlist. It’s region locked to the USA and I’m in Scotland but whatever I don’t really care lol.
Sonic Boom meanwhile has this cool steelbook blu-ray, which isn’t region locked too which is a neat bonus even if I want it mostly to have instead of specifically to watch, but nice to know all the same. Really big fan of the boxart here too it looks dope. And yeah it has everything which is like, the main prerequisite I care about lol.
Sonic X wise I’m waiting for this. There’s actually a basically identical modern blu-ray release by the same company but it’s dub only and in the case of Sonic X I’d want to go original language because yeah. Plus from the description this one should also have better video so. And also the boxart is cooler. So this is another wait for it to release and then like, yeah. Neat.
And from here! It goes to shit.
It appears that the only complete home release SatAM has is this DVD release from 2007, featuring cover art from Ken Penders in what is tbf one of his better pieces. It’s an okay release I’m sure! But apparently it lists the episodes in a different order than they broadcasted in and has a couple bugs somehow. That and in being from 2007 I don’t think I’d be getting a new copy possibly either. And while DVD is fine for a show that’s like from the 90s anyway it’s still ehhhhhh. I’d definitely put off buying this until I’ve got the above 3 at least, and hope that within that time SatAM should miraculously get a new release. Considering the 3 we just spoke about I want to be optimistic at least.
Underground seems almost more tragic than SatAM with fortunately 2 complete series releases in the UK! But they both have shit box art and appear to have cardboard sleeves that are like badly deteroriated from just how old and preowened these are. And DVD too. Really not optimistic about the currently available Underground releases. This is another case where I’d really want to hope that it can get a new blu-ray release or something for the same justifications as before but like. Hard to be confident there lol.
in terms of the OVA it seems like this DVD release from 1999 is the best we’re gonna get lol. The cover’s okay and even in DVD quality the OVA looks pretty damn good - and in just being 50 minutes instead of trying to cram entire TV shows on DVD I’m pretty confident the quality would be fine too. But like you know I want blu-rays! I do not expect this to get newly licensed (especially with the confusion of Paramount’s Sonic movies) but imagine if it did! I want that. tbh even in this state it’s higher in my priority list than SatAM and Underground, mostly because I really do think this is literally the best we’ll ever get, and also I enjoy the OVA more anyway.
As for the stragglers. Sonic movie 3 will inevitably get a 4K blu-ray release like the first 2 movies did, and I’ll be happy to buy that in uhhh 2025 lmao. Sonic Prime is only a few days away from dropping on Netflix, and I am. Not sure how confident I should be in that getting a home release ever. I know those types of rights things are very annoying and Netflix aren’t great for home video releases and I imagine that might be even more the case for an animated series aimed at kids too. But in an ideal world it gets a physical release on like blu-ray and shit. And there’s the live action Knuckles series for Paramount Plus that we’ve really not learned anything about yet lol. Part of me wants to assume that that’d be more likely to get a physical release but I don’t actually know enough about how Paramount operates to really comment. But like, praying.

Eddie Murphy discusses the "Christmas spirit" and how it is the "best time to reconnect with family and friends" ahead of the release of Candy Cane Lane.
Eddie Murphy's upcoming Christmas flick Candy Cane Lane will be released on December 1.
Eddie Murphy, Reggie Hudlin, and Brian Grazer are ready to reconvene after 30 years for Candy Cane Lane, a hilarious, new Amazon original action-adventure twist on the Christmas movie genre. The video is set in El Segundo, California, near Los Angeles International Airport, and depicts an actual location that draws visitors every year to enjoy the spectacular Christmas displays. Eddie Murphy plays Chris, a man on a goal to win his neighborhood's annual Christmas home decorating contest who, unwittingly, strikes a bargain with a nefarious elf that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life.
Nothing is more important to Murphy and his character Chris over the holidays than spending time with family. "When you get older it's harder and harder to feel that Christmas spirit, but it makes it much easier when you have the little ones around," says Murphy. "Christmas is the best time to reconnect with family, friends and the people who matter most to celebrate the good times." He hopes that this film preserves the Christmas spirit alive.
Murphy's character, Chris Carver, is a family man who loves Christmas so much that he names all of his children after Christmas carols. "Every year, he goes all out, and then he loses his job." "Right before Christmas, the bottom is pulled out from beneath him," Murphy adds. "He is going all out in his movie because he is on the verge of losing everything."
Director Reginald Hudlin says that having the comic G.O.A.T on hand was crucial to making Candy Cane Lane the best movie could be. "This is my second time working with Eddie Murphy on a film, and there are a lot of great things that come with that." The first is, of course, that you work with Eddie Murphy, one of the most talented persons in our industry. The second reason is that everyone wants to work with Eddie Murphy, so you can find the best staff and performers to surround him with. As a result, I was able to make the film of my dreams."
Candy Cane Lane, directed by Reginald Hudlin and written by Kelly Younger, will launch on Prime Video in India and 240+ countries and territories worldwide on December 1. 1. The Introduction
Greetings, Citizens and Neighbors! Welcome to a special Christmas review of the Jacobin Fiction Convention! Today, January 7th, is Christmas in Russia, even though it’s only celebrated by people of Orthodox Christian faith.
But, guess what, I am an Orthodox Christian and I do celebrate this holiday so here is my Christmas present for everyone. Okay, now we can begin! Once again, I found a movie that is Napoleonic and FRev- related at the same time! Thanks, IMDb! Apparently there are two movies with this title but today we’re only discussing the 1961 one, with Sophia Loren.
As I’m a big fan of older movies and I really like it when media tackles obscure people, I knew I had to watch this one and review it for both communities!
Unfortunately, most of you will only be able to find it on Amazon Prime Video so it’s not exactly readily available online, but, if anyone manages to dig something that doesn’t require subscriptions up, call me.
Anyway, I’m excited for this so let’s just proceed! On with the show!
2. The Summary
The titular Madame Sans-Gêne is Catherine Lefebvre (née Hübscher), wife of Marshal Lefebvre and Duchess of Danzig.
This is the story of her journey from a simple laundress to war hero to a noble, and of the trials and tribulations that she has to overcome while fighting for her happiness with her beloved husband.
I’m not a fan of love stories for the most part, but let’s take a closer look at this one.
3. The Story
For once, the pacing wasn’t confusing to me! Yay! The movie doesn’t try to squeeze in too much time chronologically and instead it treats us to a couple of time skips where the subtitles on screen and the narrator helpfully explain the historical bullet points to give us the context.
This is awesome, especially for people who don’t know much about Frev and/or the Napoleonic era, as it spares them the unnecessary confusion. Therefore, more people can enjoy this movie.
I also love the fact that, while romance is basically an essential part of the plot, it’s rather skillfully intertwined with quite a bit of action, comedy and even drama.
Besides, for once, I was actually sold on the love story of Catherine and Lefebvre. I’m sure the actors also contributed to this, but I personally actually believed that the main couple actually was madly in love and ready to do anything to stay together. And trust me, they do some truly ballsy shit, especially Catherine. More on her later.
There is also some filler that does a pretty good job at character establishment and character development, but not so much that it becomes unbearable and is just filler.
(Spoiler alert!)
That said, I kind of wish that the main conflict, what with Napoleon wanting to make Lefebvre King of Westphalia on the condition that he divorces Catherine after the latter’s blunt remarks cause a scandal, wasn’t resolved as quickly as it was and just brushed aside, but I still enjoy this certain naïveté.
Not all stories have to be extremely complex thrillers and I still enjoyed it. Sure, the theme of “the power of love” might be cliché, but there’s nothing wrong with exploring it yet again. Love in any form is indeed a universal concept and, let’s face it, sometimes we do need simpler stories such as this one.
There’s also a bit of foreshadowing about Napoleon becoming Emperor that’s a bit too obvious for my tastes, but that’s not a serious complaint.
Alright, let’s look at the characters.
3. The Characters
(Spoiler alert!)
Boy, do I love Catherine here! She is basically the personification of the phrase “old habits die hard”.
Blunt, witty, rude, hardworking and independent, she is not afraid to speak her mind to anyone, soldier or emperor. That said, she is also loyal and caring. She follows her husband to war, cares for wounded soldiers and even gets wounded herself. I also like the fact that her blunt remarks are picked up by the press and provoke a scandal. It shows that our heroine isn’t some Mary Sue who is completely above consequences.
Moreover, she and Lefebvre BOTH wreak absolute havoc in the camp of Austrians, who had captured them earlier and wanted to execute them. Catherine is a fucking badass! Sure, she still displays realistic emotions like fear and sadness, but she is a strong woman who never goes down without a fight.
Her playful banter with Napoleon and Augereau is also genuinely entertaining.
Lefebvre is a badass here too (in real life he took part in the battle of Fleurus, Citizens), but he doesn’t have the courage to stand up to Napoleon at first. It is indeed daunting because Napoleon is the Emperor and can actually make Lefebvre a King and can make him divorce Catherine.
Realistically, Lefebvre hesitates because he genuinely loves Catherine but also doesn’t find the courage to oppose Napoleon...until he does. This is what I like the most about his character in the movie. His hesitation is understandable but he finds the strength to go straight to Napoleon, tell him he can’t divorce his wife and add that he doesn’t need a throne nor his title if it means that he will have to be without his beloved.
I love characters who fight for their happiness no matter what, and I love the way Lefebvre overcomes his fear in the movie. Plus he has a cute kitten here and there’s a sweet scene involving him and Catherine cuddling her.
Napoleon here is actually complex. As a common general, he has playful banters with Catherine and messes around with her, but later he becomes Emperor, gets arrogant as fuck and even has a few really angry outbursts. One of said outbursts is directed at his own siblings when they’re discussing who should get Westphalia.
Napoleon complains that everyone in his family is a leech and they wouldn’t be where they are without him, which is kinda true but it also looks like here the power went to his head.
That said, when he recognizes Catherine and when she manages to convince him not to make the divorce happen, he reverts back to the way he acted with her before - that same witty banter! He even admits his defeat and he and Catherine have a good laugh while remembering the past.
Napoleon’s siblings (Jerome, Caroline, Elise and Pauline) are shown as petty arrogant assholes who try to put Catherine in “her place”. Jokes on them because she wastes no time ranting about how she did more (on the battlefield) than all of them (at home) and how they all would be nobodies had the Revolution not happened so they end up utterly humiliated.
Augereau, Jourdan and Masséna make cameos and Catherine uses them to prove her point how all of them were commoners before.
Augereau playfully pinches Catherine’s ass at one point, but it’s not portrayed as harassment, more as a joking thing on his part. They seem to be quite friendly in this movie.
Last but not least, F**ché. He literally listens to the Bonaparte family while hiding behind a secret door and skillfully manipulates people and situations. But, like the snake he is, he knows all the right words to say and is polite and deceivingly friendly at times.
In general, the characters feel like real people here. They bicker, they talk about their plans for Sunday or the future in general, they overcome conflicts and they all have something interesting about them!
4. The Acting
I really like Sophia Loren here, but almost every single actor does a fantastic job. Nothing but mad respect for that!
5. The Music
I love music in older movies. I don’t know why but it really appeals to me. Plus, they insert revolutionary songs in the beginning, which is a plus in my book!
6. The Setting
The settings and the costumes are gorgeous, even though I’m not sure they’re always accurate. At least the Frev costumes are on point though, as far as I can tell.
7. The Conclusion
I really enjoyed this movie and I low key wish it was available online for free, but I still recommend it. It definitely has a charm to it. Just a nice relatively simple story that manages (at least for me) to be a truly exciting piece of media and makes me happy that I discovered this gem.

💀 In-depth guide thread for people who want to get into The Venture Bros. 💀
a lot of people have shown interest in the The Venture Bros. since i’ve started posting about it and because the series is funny and engaging as all hell i want them to get the best possible experience. this will include the background/what it is about, content warnings, the episode order to follow, and where you can watch it. this can also be a guide just for anyone curious.
💀 1) What is The Venture Bros.?
Created by Christopher "Jackson Publick" McCulloch and Doc Hammer, The Venture Bros. is an adult animated sitcom that has been broadcast on Adult Swim since 2004 and is currently their longest-running original series to date. What initially started as a largely Jonny Quest/Space Age boy adventurer-inspired satire eventually grew into something entirely new and unique.
The show largely follows the Venture family: twins Dean and Hank, their pathetic daddy-issue riddled super-scientist father Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture, their brutal but protective bodyguard/secret agent Brock Samson, and the involvement of this family with their supervillain arch-nemesis The Monarch and his squad of butterfly-themed goons. My succinct description here really doesn't do the show justice though.
It's a situational, action, adventure, sci-fi comedy that largely rags on how incompetent, pathetic, or unfortunate many of the characters and situations are in this show. This show is heavy in pop-culture references, largely Gen X ones (70s/80s/90s music and TV/movies). It’s scored by JG Thirwell of the 80s one-man post-punk/industrial band Foetus; seeing how deep their music references in the show can get, it's no wonder the creators chose him. The Venture Bros. is in 4:3 aspect ratio for Seasons 1-2, and turns to 16:9 from Season 3 onwards.
💀 2) Content Warnings
The show itself is great but it can't go without saying that as an Adult Swim show from 2004 there are some things to be aware of before jumping in. It has questionable, outdated humor in earlier seasons but it gets much better later on (observe......), so try to pull through! This list probably isn’t complete and there’s almost definitely stuff I forgot, but it’s a start so you can know what to expect. Most of these (with exception to the frequent ones) are gone or at least far less frequent after seasons 2 or 3.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Holiday Season is coming. I'm constantly afraid that Family(Relatives) Reunion & the Mass Movement of People lead to the closures of theaters & postponement of many movie release with COVID-19 winter pandemic.
it is a crying shame that COVID-19 pandemic is still far from over. On the Other Hand, I continue a habit of watching Hollywood movies in Amazon Prime Video as Stay Home Challenge and watching Hollywood movies in The nearest theater from My Home during Holiday Season in COVID-19 Pandemic. I think Watching Hollywood movies as Stay Home Challenge is best way for someone to enjoy during Holiday Season in COVID-19 Pandemic.
Although I know this is a hard time for Worldwide, I would really appreciate it if they could actively put out to all the stops to watching Hollywood movies in Streaming & watching Hollywood movies in The nearest theater from Their Home for the bright future in Hollywood movies.

Dating Harry Winks was truly the best thing in the world. You were convinced that you had won the lottery. He was the most caring guy in the world and you loved him with your whole heart.
Harry was completely enamoured by you. In fact, he didn’t shut up about you. At first, his teammates thought that it was sweet but as time went on, they slowly started to get bored of hearing about you. They loved you and thought that you were great but sometimes all they wanted to talk about was their win at the weekend or their upcoming matches.
The media staff were also getting a little bit sick of it. The fans wanted to know about Harry Winks as a footballer but in ever interview, he managed to slip your name in there somewhere. He didn’t know that he was doing it and nobody had the heart to tell him.
With the documentary that was going to be on Amazon Prime Video, there were no secrets within the club this season and everything would be shown to the public.
You were currently watching the documentary on your phone as you lay awake in the bed that you shared with Harry, your boyfriend currently asleep since it was after midnight.
You couldn’t lie, you had cried silently yourself when you watched Pochettino get sacked. He had given your boyfriend his chance to prove himself as a first team player. You had even met him several times at awards nights and after games and he had to be one of the loveliest people you had ever met. He had meant a lot to both yourself and to Harry.
Now, Harry had a little interview segment. It was around the Christmas period when the team had an intense period with lots of games played in such a short amount of time.
“Christmas Day training is a bit of a hard one,” Harry sighed as he looked into the cameras before he continued with what he was saying.
“I’m so lucky to have the job that I have because I love it and it’s not like any other day but we’re all human at the end of the day. We all want to pig out on our Christmas dinner and spend the evening cuddled on the couch with our partners.” He let out a laugh at the thought and you could only smile as you listened to his words.
“Do you make other plans with your partners though?”
“Yeah, of course. Y/N likes things to be lowkey so I’m planning on taking her to a lodge in the countryside for a week or so in the summer. She doesn’t know it yet though.” Harry let out a soft chuckle and you decided that that would be enough for the night.
Just as you were about to cuddle in with Harry and fall asleep, your phone lit up with a few messages. You looked at the screen and noticed that it was the groupchat that you and Harry were in with Eric Dier, Dele, Sonny and Kyle. They were the boys that you were closest to out of Harry’s teammates and as you read them, a small smile formed on your face.
Kyle: Ooh, look at me, I’m Harry Winks and I’m Mr Romantic
Dele: You make me feel sick Harry
Eric: Harry Winks is the new Mr Whippy because he’s whipped
Dele: that wasn’t that funny Eric
Sonny: I would say that you both need a room but even when Y/N isn’t there, Harry still makes me feel sick from the PDA

Top three Fictional Universe: it has been so long since i’ve experienced anything that’s original fiction i mean like, jowling kowling rowling is a fucking terf and we hate her LMAO so the only harry potter universe i can vibe with is one that’s thoroughly headcanoned to squeeze all the bullshit out of it, but i vibe with those kinds (i’ve written those kinds, or tried anyway lmao).
also i couldn’t actually read the Lord of the Rings series bc Tolkien’s prose was just way too dense for me to enjoy without it feeling like i was reading a textbook, but i read the Hobbit and i talk to my dad about it sometimes cause he listens to a podcast where they analyze it, and literally the absolute care and time he put into making every section of that world feel alive is absolutely buck fuckin wild to me i mean fuck it up Tolkien that’s fucking incredible. that is batshit insane you incredible man, godspeed.
and doctor who is lit as fuck, tbh i vibe hard with the rtd era shit, they kind of lost me at eleven and also took that shit off amazon prime before i was done watching shitheads but like you have to admit that’s a giant fictional universe and it feels Alive as hell and i vibe with that hard like i vibed so hard i fuckin started writing my own goddamn season just bc i wanted to play around in that lovely lovely sandbox so kudos to them i guess

Update: ”I Know What We’re Going To Do Today!”
Howdy Guys!
I hope you didn’t miss me too much. Yesterday, I was suddenly reminded of all of the work I left unfinished back in August. What I also realized is that I never posted the last thing I wrote before my absence.
I’ll be frank:
These past few months have been pretty strenuous for multiple reasons, and I haven’t found the proper time nor the inspiration to sit down and write more of the journal. In fact, the last oneshot I wrote was directly inspired by art that took ahold of me right at the beginning of the semester.
Besides the world constantly being on fire in 2020, the problems with my stomach hit a wall in August. I had multiple different tests done to try and find the problem, but there was no diagnosis in the end. My doctor prescribed that I start taking natural remedies to try and ease my sickness, and so far..... It’s been working! I’ve actually had an improvement in my health since then. I started taking probiotic vitamins in the morning and drinking kombucha, and now my persistent nausea during the day has disappeared. I’m down to taking one nexium before I go to bed, which is great because this medication was initially prescribed for twice a day.
School, has been interesting so far. It’s my first true semester deep into my music education degree, and I find myself struggling in certain areas due to the pandemic. Some classes are made more difficult to achieve in, while others make it hard to attend consistently. However, I’ve been keeping my head above water relatively well regardless of that. Work......I can’t say that I’m too satisfied with my current employment. If you read my notes on AO3, you knew that the summer was about readjusting to work amid the pandemic, which went over with ups and downs, but more often the latter. I realize now that after 3 years, I am not making enough money to be dealing with the type of work environment I am currently in. Many of the coworkers that I had come to realize as family have left or plan on leaving as well because they feel the same. I gave an ultimatum to my manager that I need to get my much needed promotion and raise or I am walking out before the holiday season, which for a retail store is major crunch time. In this department is where I find the most stress, as it is transitional period. I am in the midst of finding employment elsewhere, which can hopefully give me a much larger paycheck that can help boost my savings and support my college fees.
Free time is spent prepping. Whether it is singing, or practicing another instrument for my methods courses, or even supplemental music theory, I am in a constant state of prep work. And for watching or reading anything, there’s been a lot of comfort shows and not too much else. I took a tiny break from anime and started watching more western television. One thing that my coworkers have been wanting me to watch for ages has been Stranger Things, which I’ve enjoyed a lot so far. I took a short break from it after the slog fest that was the 2nd season, and am now on Season 3. I got access to Amazon Prime Video, so I finally watched the anime adaptation of Wotakoi, a manga I really love, and recently began watching Blade of the Immortal, which is very bloody and very interesting. But above all else, my general mindset this fall has been around one thing and one thing alone:
Phineas & Ferb
A cartoon that has been one of my favorites since I was 6 years old has recently resurged in my life and has overtaken my attention once again. What was meant to be my comfort show of the lockdown during the spring has become my comfort show of the fall semester, turning into a massive hyperfixation that has overriden my thought process. Don’t worry, I didn’t go that deep. I just might’ve written 3k words of an analytical piece for the show’s emotional finale, “Act Your Age.” But I stuck true to my morals and didn’t read any fanfiction (this time). This laser focus on the show is actually 5 years late, as I was in the thralls of a fixation when the series ended back in 2015 just as I was discovering Steven Universe, which was the series that won my attention for the next year before I was captured by anime in highschool. But now, I’ve decided to take a break from it until Christmas, as I didn’t watch either of the show’s Christmas specials during my 3 month fling. Everything has connected to this show, and I mean everything, including my own musical development which I really don’t want to go into detail with.
But today, the dreaded Election day in my country, I’ve finally found the resolve to come back to writing Saiino related things. Last night, I took a step back and began to reread my journal to re-immerse myself within my ideas, which ended up being a fantastic idea because it actually made me realize that I needed to change the perspective of the next entry. Along with that came my idea for the prompts in Yamanaka Week 2021. I actually have decided that my participation will follow it’s own running theme that coincides with my journal while also following some of the prompts. They will all be centered around 1 particular headcanon, so I hope you aren’t too dulled with my idea. It will start with my next oneshot chapter for the Sai Journal. As exciting as it is however, I will not be able to start working on this until I can clearly see the end of this semester. Be on the look out for my oneshot, “Technical Difficulties,” and any more updates about Yamanaka Week, because they are coming. I have to go to a zoom meeting for a class, so I will end it here.
