You have been hit with a Whump Ask! Pick five different whumpees and let us know what aspects of them are the whumpiest!

Ooohh!! How fun!! Okay cool! So this got long. Not sorry. I enjoyed picking the whumpees and I enjoyed analyzing the shit out of why I like them as whumpees. This was so fun. Thank you! Also this made me realize that I look for a lot of the same characteristics in my whumpees.

1. Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer)

If I had to sum up Lucifer’s whumpiest aspects in one word I’d choose the word VULNERABLE. It’s his vulnerability that makes Lucifer so damn whumpable. First there’s his whole “whenever he’s near Chloe, he’s physically vulnerable” thing which leaves so much room for good physical whump. I love immortal characters with a singular weakness like this because they don’t know what to do when they get hurt. Lucifer’s confusion and fear when Chloe shot him in the leg that first time was beautiful. And then it leads to him putting himself in danger, knowing he could be seriously injured or killed, to protect someone he loves. I love that shit.

Second, his emotional vulnerability opens up a whole other can of worms. Due to his terrible childhood and traumatic past he puts up so many walls in order to protect himself so when someone breaks down that wall and exposes his insecurities and fears like when Chloe touched his scars or pretty much the whole of season 4, the whump is just delicious.

I love anything associated with his insecurities, his scars, or anything that puts him in a vulnerable position (both physically and emotionally) where he can be hurt.

2. Danny Williams (Hawaii Five-0)

One word to describe Danno’s whumpiest aspects is the word CARETAKER. Above all Danny is a protector, a caretaker. I know a lot of people probably think of Steve as more of the protector of the group but I think it’s Danny and I love protectiveness in a whumpee. As a father, as a partner, as a friend Danny would do anything to protect the ones he loves and that often leads him to stress out and worry about them. He may not be the kind of person to go barreling into a situation (talking about you Steven) but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t go anywhere, do anything to keep his loved ones safe. He went to North Korea for Steve. He went to prison in Columbia for his team.

Danno is also a very emotional person with goes hand in hand with his caretaker personality. He can tell when you’re upset or angry or hurting and tries to help. He’s so soft, and gentle, and a big old worry wart. Put someone he loves in danger and watch him either go into massive BAMF mode or just completely lose it emotionally (or when it’s really good, a bit of both). Remember his reaction when Grace was in that really bad car accident? Or when Steve was shot while they were in the plane and he ended up giving him half of his liver? Or when Grace was kidnapped? Yeah those are my favorite Danny whump moments because the worse thing for a caretaker is to put those he cares for in danger.

Danny doesn’t get injured in the show as often as Steve but when he does get hurt what I love most about it is the “whole who protects the protector?” type of thing. Who worries about the worrier? The emotional rock of the group is down so what do the others do now?

My favorite situations for Danny whump is either anything that puts him on an emotional roller coaster or anything that lands him in the hospital with the team worrying their butts off. Caretaker worried about their chargers or their charges worried about their caretaker. That’s my jam.

3. Thomas Barrow (Downton Abbey)

Thoma’s whumpiest aspects are surrounded by the word SCARED. Thomas is super soft and feels so much but because he is a gay man in the 1910s/1920s he’s afraid all of the time. Afraid that he’ll be caught and sacked, sent to prison, or even killed for just being who he is. Afraid that he’ll end up alone for the rest of his life. All Thomas wants is love. He wants a home. People who care about him and accept him. He also wants to experience a romantic love that he doesn’t have to hide or feel guilty about. Thomas Barrow is just a man looking for love and acceptance and he’s so afraid of being hurt that he lashes out against everyone to protect himself. He puts on this mask of anger and meanness to keep people away, to prevent them from getting too close and risk exposing himself to the wrong person. Because of this he’s often misjudged and hated when he’s just trying to protect himself.

The whump scenarios I love most for Thomas are when someone hurts him (either physically, emotionally or both) and the family and staff rally around him and he realizes that he does have people who care about him.

4. Tony Stark (Marvel)

Where do I begin with Tony. Picking one word to describe his whumpy aspects is nearly impossible. He’s vulnerable, hurt, scared, insecure, self-sacrificing, a protector, a caretaker, a hero. All the things I love in a whumpee. I think the word I’d pick for Tony would be BROKEN. Tony has been through SO MUCH!! He’s been beaten down over and over and over again but one of the best things about Tony is that he doesn’t stay down. He may be a bit broken but that has made him kind, selfless, loving, patient, and much more. He knows pain and sadness so he does whatever he can to make sure no one else experiences that. And when he can’t prevent it he feels guilty and blames himself for it.

Tony also puts on a mask and builds up walls and one of my favorite things for whumpees who do that is to have someone break it down, expose their fears and vulnerabilities.

Tony is my favorite whumpee. He’s one of the few whumpees where any trope can be applied to him and I’ll love it because he’s such a complex and amazing character that I love seeing how he’d react in any instance. Tony so desperately needs hugs and love and those are whumpee aspects I jump at every time.

Anything involving Tony’s insecurities, his arc reactor, or his anxiety/ptsd is my jam.

5. Klaus Hargreeves (The Umbrella Academy)

Robert Sheehan has described Klaus as FRAGILE before and I think that word is perfect to describe Klaus’ greatest whumpable aspect. I love how fragile he is both emotionally and physically. How one gently touch could shatter him. He seems like an annoying jerk on the outside but like so many of my favorite whumpees, he puts on a mask. Take off that mask you have a scared kid who is doing his best and just wants love.

My favorite whump situations to put Klaus in involve putting him in danger and having his siblings take care of him.

Fire Emblem Three Houses

Fandom likes: Byleth being involved with teaching the other houses, Sothis commenting on everyday life, Jeralt being protective of Byleth, trans Felix, reason spells having really a really bad impact on their users (esp dark magic), weird crest shit, students looking out for Byleth, really creepy things happening to/about Byleth after Sothis gives them her powers. I love Marianne!! Even if she’s not who we matched on, if you could somehow include her I would be over the moon. Also, please only use they/them pronouns for Byleth!

I’ve finished all routes of FE3H, and all of the DLC, so you don’t have to worry about spoilers :)

Felix/Sylvain

I think about them and I just go adsfgfdsfgds. I love them. Sylvain being the only one who really understands what Felix is going through, Felix being one of the only ones to see through and call Sylvain out on his bullshit, is just so good! Plus I’m always a sucker for childhood friends, so this ship has like, everything for me.

Sylvain having a bad time: please hurt him!! Sylvain is so whumpable, he would try and wave off his serious injuries and Felix would just be standing there like no!! You are injured!! And Sylvain would be like ;) so ;) are you going to take care of me then ;) and then Felix would say nothing but he would take care of him, and Sylvain would be stunned into quietness, like someone?? Values him and will get dirty and messy and will do things for him that are not pleasant?? Maybe he loves Felix and maybe Felix loves him??

Time loop: related to Byleth’s powers would be good, but that doesn’t have to be the reason for the time loop!! Just, Sylvain or Felix stuck in a time loop trying to save everyone from a horrible death and there is a lot of angst, and maybe they cradle the lifeless body of their boyfriend in their arms, but eventually there is a happy ending and kisses and cuddles to make up for it.

BABY: if you would write about sylvix baby for me I would probably lose it because of how much I would love it. Felix getting accidentally pregnant and deciding to keep the baby, Felix being grumbly all throughout the pregnancy, Ingrid being a terrible helicopter friend, Sylvain holding his daughter for the first time, Dimitri literally not knowing about anything until he gets a baby put in his hands and then he questions where it comes from and Ingrid and Sylvain have to stop Felix from killing Dimitri – all very good!! And if you included Marianne as Felix’s midwife my capacity to heart eyes at you would be maxed out!!

Marianne

I love Marianne so much – I really resonate with her journey and I adore her character development. I love all her supports and all her interactions with other characters, so please feel free to involve whoever you would wish for in a fic if Marianne is the focus!

My Marianne ships are Marianne/Ingrid/Ashe, Marianne/Ashe, Marianne/Ingrid, Marianne/Byleth, Marianne/Leonie, and Marianne/Hilda, so feel free to include any of those!

In her support with Raphael she says that she can talk to animals – how does she use this in her everyday life? Can animals understand her, or does it only go one way? How did she discover that other people can’t understand them? What was her life as a child like, trying to navigate her strange Crest powers, with no one really understanding her? Does she ever tell anyone else about this power, and what are their reactions?

Coming of age: something that could be a few snapshots of things that really influenced her and informed her character growth that we really didn’t get to see in game. We don’t really get to see or hear what happens to Marianne during the timeskip, so if you delved into that then I would be super interested to see what you come up with!

Supports that never were!! I would absolutely adore a support chain between her and Constance, Hapi, Felix or Edelgard! Or your favourite character that doesn’t have a support with Marianne, what would that look like? OR new paralogues omg I love Marianne’s paralogue a lot but a paralogue with someone else??? That would be so good!!

Ashe/Marianne/Ingrid

What is a fandom without a rarepair that only I ship? I got Ashe and Marianne’s ending the first time I played FE3H, and then Ashe and Ingrid’s paired ending on my second route, and liked both ships immensely, but it is only recently that I have had the epiphany that I could just… ship them all together as an OT3! I like to think that Ingrid and Marianne bond over their shared love of horses/pegasus, and since I always make Ingrid a falcon knight, Ashe a wyvern knight, and now that the DLC is out, Marianne a dark flier, they’re all flying together!! It’s very good and positive and if you have thought about it for even a second by reading this then I thank you.

Supports: Between Marianne and Ingrid!! I absolutely love the ashegrid and mariashe support chains, so if you could write something between Marianne and Ingrid that would be amazing. Or maybe even a support chain between all three of them? It’s not something that’s done in game, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it!

Flying together: as mentioned above, I make all three of them fliers, so if you do something with that then I would be stoked. Maybe they get trapped on a mountain somewhere because they were scouting and a storm blew in? Now they have to build shelter, find food, and make sure their mounts are okay until the storm passes! Oh and maybe they cuddle for warmth too. Honestly any kind of plot where it’s the three of them problem solving would be great, I love to see it.

Getting together/first kiss: how did all three of them wrangle these messy feelings between them? Who confessed first? Did one pair try to get together but then realised they wanted the third as well, but was scared of admitting it? How did they eventually tie things all up? Who else figured it out before them? Who did they confide in when they wanted advice?

Also, if you’re interested, I would love to see Ashe as a trans woman. No pressure if you don’t want to, but just putting it out there!

Marianne/Ingrid

Horse girls horse girls hoRSE GIRLS HORSE GIRLS!! I would argue that these two are the biggest horse girls in the game, and I really do think they would bond together over that, as well as their complicated relationship with their crests and their nobility.

Support chain!! Please I would like to see it. What shenangians do they get up to, how do they get to know each other? Feel free to pull from my MariAsheGrid requests above for inspo as well.

Healing/magic/dancing – I usually make Ingrid a Pegasus knight, but since the DLC came out I’ve been having her as a dark flier sometimes and that works! Her spell list isn’t massive, but she works well with what she has. Do Marianne and Ingrid practise magic together/does Marianne teach her any magic? I’ve also made both of them dancers in at least one playthrough, what dynamic does that lend to their relationship?

Horses! Bonding over them, caring for them, looking after them in battle, looking after each others horses as a metaphor for love… I am looking!

Marianne/Leonie

MariLeo is SUCH a big heart eyes ship for me, their supports are just adorable and I love how they bounce off of each other. Leonie trying her best to get to know Marianne despite Marianne pushing everyone away is ripe for potential, what did Leonie try, did she ever really give up? And if she did, how did Marianne realise that she actually liked getting interrupted by Leonie, and now she has to somehow apologise and tell her that she wants to be friends?

HORSE GIRLS!!!! They both love horses, I bet they bond over that, is Leonie surprised by Marianne’s sudden passion/strength/conviction when something threatens a horse/other animal? How does she react? Marianne actually has quite the stubborn streak when it comes to animals, so I’d love to see her normally quiet self butting heads with someone over it, and everyone who is watching basically going ‘……….what’

As always I’m down for worldbuilding and delving into Marianne especially since she’s my fav 3H character. Magic practise, how does Leonie help her get past a block? Marianne can talk to animals, how does Leonie find out/react to that? Crest shenanigans, weird things happening to Marianne because of her Crest and Leonie helping her with it would just be SO good.

Lysithea

Lysithea is one of my favs in 3H, I recruit her absolutely every run and she always puts in SO much effort and work (Death Knight who??). Feel free to have her interact with your favs, I’m always interested in seeing how she makes friends and influences people.

Angsty backstory… what happened? How is her everyday life impacted by it? How does it inform her choices/thoughts/actions/decisions?

Magic – studying by herself or with others, what effect does her magic have on her, reason vs faith, 101 ways to use a spell, battle, what it says about her character! People finding out about her past through her magic use, people finding out about her crests… I will lap that up.

Supports!! Please give her more supports with girls, she has like no supports with other girls (and no A supports at all, very depressing), so please show my what another support chain might look like (or an A support that doesn’t exist)!

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Fandom likes: Vala lives!!!, Aloy interacting with Old World tech, GAIA Prime being rebuilt, TFW characters interacting with base game characters, Aloy being a big lady lover!!!, Vala interacting with other characters (especially those in the Cut), Aloy introducing Varl or Vala to old world tech, striders and just machines in general befriending Aloy when she overrides them, normal people’s reactions to Aloy’s actions, Aloy being a living legend

Aloy/Vala

Aloy and Vala are two characters that I love very much, and if you write something about them for me I will be very, very grateful!! Vala didn’t get a lot of characterisation in canon, so anything you’d like to go with would be fine with me.

Daemon AU: What do daemons look like post-post-apocalypse? Are there daemons that look like animals that no one has ever seen, but that’s just because they’re extinct? Or are there only daemons from animals that are currently running around in the world? I’m always down for daemon touching, accidental or not accidental, and how daemons act compared to their humans. Just, valaloy daemons!!

Worldbuilding with the Nora, what are their marriage ceremonies like, their getting together rituals, what do they do for courting/dates. The Nora are matrilineal, so what would they do when two girls want to date?

Vala in the Cut!! Vala and Varga interacting, Vala and Ikrie interacting, Vala and Aloy taking down new machines, Vala and Aloy finding out new things and discovering mysterious things and figuring it out together! Also cuddling for warmth. Cuddling for warmth is very important.

Aloy/Ikrie

These two are such great foils for each other, I love their interactions in canon. Ikrie has such a great character voice, and I love how you meet her after her initial quest and she’s just, hanging around and trying to figure herself out! Yeah, love that for her! Would also love to see her and Aloy building off each other and figuring things out together, leaning on each other and supporting each other J

Ikrie leaving the Cut: What does she think moving out of Banuk lands for the first time? Culture clash between her and the Carja since there’s normally no mix between the Carja and the Banuk, what clothes does she find that’s more appropriate to wear in the heat of the more southern lands, what does she like to eat, what does she figure out, what does Aloy show her?

Date night in Meridian… stargazing, meeting people, eating new foods, getting into a little trouble maybe?? Just two rowdy girls having fun!!

Ikrie and Aloy solving a mystery together! How do each of them contribute to figuring it out, how do they celebrate when everything has wrapped up?

Vala

Vala getting taken from the game so early was a literal crime and one of my only gripes with this game. Fix it fic where she lives, please!

Vala and Varl probably competed for their mother’s attention when they were growing up, what with her role as leader of the braves taking up most of her time. Did they bond over that or was it a point of contention between them? As adults, how to Varl and Vala interact with each other? I’m a big sucker for protective sibling relationships!

What does Vala think about Aloy’s involvement with old world tech. Yeah she’s a Nora, but I’d like to think that since she’s close with Aloy, she’s not too uncomfortable with it

Have Vala leave the Embrace! Have her explore other lands, make new friends, and learn things about herself! Especially if she’s going north to the Cut, there are so many great characters there that she could interact with.

Kingdom Hearts

Fandom likes: Riku is FTM trans, Roxas or Xion or Ven or Van lurking in the background/influencing Sora’s actions while they’re still in his heart, Sora crying, drive forms, keyblades!!, Van remembering KHUX events, SORIKAI, Nobodies being treated like the really fucking scary/dead things that they are, Roxas being OP, the Oathkeeper and Oblivion (the keyblades and their symbolism). I love Roxas a lot. If you could include him, I would really be over the moon.

PLEASE if you’re doing post canon kh3 fic, can you please have Sora, Kairi and Vanitas alive and awake (or just don’t mention them so I can pretend they are). Feel free to just completely ignore the canon ending and Re:Mind!! You absolutely do not have to explain it if you don’t want to, just have them all there and I will 100% accept it!

Kairi/Riku

These two are my fav out of the sorikai trio, and there just isn’t enough content of them interacting! I like them together since I headcanon that they get together first before including Sora in their relationship, and I think they deserve some screentime outside of Sora being around so they get some focus.

Confessing: I think that Kairi would have to confess her feelings first, since Riku seems like the type to repress everything tbh. How does she corner him, what do they say, what’s Riku’s reaction, what’s their first kiss like? What accessory does Kairi make for him to show off, to signify the start of their dating life?

In between Chain of Memories and KH2 when Kairi is on the islands and can’t remember Sora, maybe Riku comes to visit? And there is a lot of drama, and a lot of tearful reunions and then Kairi gets mad at him when he says he can’t stay and won’t explain why, and Riku keeps coming back and they maybe realise they have feelings for each other and both of them are confused because Kairi can’t remember Sora but she can remember SOMETHING and Riku is guilty because he feels like he doesn’t deserve Kairi’s attention instead of Sora getting it but also he wants her attention… and then he doesn’t come back (after getting Ansem’d) and Kairi runs into the dark portal, KH2 happens ect, and after everything Kairi and Riku have this whole big heart to heart about what went on between them and they come out the other side with a way better relationship!

Riku being protective, maybe getting hurt trying to protect Kairi, and there is some sweet, sweet hurt/comfort and Kairi chastises him about being reckless but Riku can’t regret it because it meant that she’s safe, and then Kairi whoops his ass and Riku maybe realises that she can hold her own now, and then they kiss! Also a rikai limit attack would be VERY good, would love that for them.

Kairi/Riku/Sora

Love these three so much!! Destiny trio is my favourite trio in KH, they all just love each other and support each other so much.

Wedding: Sorikai wedding… all of them promising to love each other forever… each of them acting as an officiant for the other two! Maybe it’s even spontaneous and on the beach and just the three of them? Maybe they invite their friends and have a surprise wedding? Maybe Vanitas starts shit by wearing crocs and upsetting Riku’s carefully planned dinner placements? Maybe their friends all give them lovely and cute wedding gifts? Maybe they all have matching rings? Maybe their Keyblades change slightly to incorporate their new wife/husbands? Maybe Sora cries and I also cry?

Sorikai going and having an adventure and finding things out about each other that they didn’t know before, how they fight and how they work and how Sora complains about the cold and how great it is to cuddle for warmth together! Solving mysteries, going to new worlds, making new friends, fighting alongside each other. If you include a sorikai limit attack, or even just a rikai limit attack, I will be VERY grateful.

Delving into trauma hell yeah!! Sora crying is Always good, I bet he suffers from nightmares post DDD. Riku having weird dreameater aftereffects that he doesn’t like to talk about, Kairi being shattered and remade after KH3, they should all have messy emotions and they should all hold each other, that’s what I think. If you include them sharing a bed I might implode.

Ventus/Vanitas

I really adore this pairing because I love ships where they’re intrinsically drawn to one another and they try to fight it, only to realise that they have to get along, and in acting upon that, realising that the other person isn’t so bad after all. Don’t be afraid to lean into Vanitas’s softer side or Ven’s brattier side, as well as their prevailing personality traits.

Anything regarding soulmates/duality of light and dark/opposite energy would be a great idea to play on. Bodysharing between the two of them, weird things happening because of how they’re tied together, Ventus interacting with the Unversed, Vanitas feeling Ven’s emotions – all very good ideas!

Exploring a new Disney world together (or a new original world, if you’re into that) would be great! Who do they make friends with, what are their reactions to everything, do they have to change clothes to blend in more, what’s the deal that’s going on with this world, why did they go there? Feel free to bring along other characters if you’d like (especially Xion and/or Roxas). Some possible worlds: Moana, the Jungle Book, Atlantis, the Incredibles, Coco.

I also would be very interested in an AU where Vanitas came with Ventus to live at the land of departure before the start of BBS… much to consider, Vanitas knowing more than he lets on, Eraqus being suspicious of him, Aqua and Terra learning that the darkness isn’t all that bad even though Eraqus says it is, because Vanitas is right there being a bit of a brat but he still helps out with chores more than Ven does!

Roxas & Sora

Honestly I wish that these two got more development together – KH2 had some GREAT scenes but then in all the games after that, their relationship is really sidelined. Something that explores how they feel about each other, with a bunch of complicated and messy emotions on both sides, would be excellent.

I would LOVE fic set either during KH2 or during Days, with either Sora or Roxas trying to figure out WTF is going on. Sora having WEIRD emotions is kinda shown onscreen during KH2, but mostly only in Twilight Town – where else did that happen? Roxas spent so much time in Agrabah that surely he’d have emotions about that too, right? Do other things ring a bell? Or what about the other way around, Sora went to Agrabah before Roxas ever did, and Sora already knew the Beast, what does Roxas feel about that? Basically anything dealing with their weird crossover during that time period would delight me.

My favourite Keyblades in KH are Oathkeeper and Oblivion, so anything to do with Keyblade lore, how Roxas came to possess them, how Sora feels about them, what Sora does in Final Form with them, how they change hands from Sora to Roxas to Sora to Roxas, how each Keyblade interacts differently with each of them would be great. I really like Oblivion’s function in re:coded, where it using it damages you, and I like to think that using Oathkeeper passively heals you, so how does Roxas/Sora use those Keyblades? Basically go wild here.

Sora and Roxas bonding post KH3 and trying to figure out how to act around each other now that they’re both alive, and Roxas not wanting to see Sora but also wanting to see Sora all the time, and Sora just wanting to be friends and not really getting What is going on with Roxas, and they have a big yelling fight where they yell about their Big Emotions about each other and Sora is like bro I’m also messed up from everything that has happened and Roxas is like… bro… and then they hug and also Sora cries. And then they’re friends for real!! That would be Very good.

Roxas

My baby boy, I love him so much… his character arc serious is the strongest in KH, and I really wish they had leaned into it a little bit more in recent games, instead of sidelining him. Give him some love and I’ll really appreciate it!

Nobodies are like… literally, canonically, dead people who only still exist through sheer willpower. Do they still bleed? Cry? Are their physical forms really physical or can they just… walk through walls if they want to? They do ‘express’ emotions ingame, but I like to think that’s more of a reflex/habit than anything because they still have memories of what it was to be human. Since Roxas doesn’t have memories, how does he react to things like pain, which is both a physical and emotional response?

Roxas exploring a world, either pre-KH2 or post-KH3, would be great. Who does he meet, what does he find, why was he there?

Kairi

My girl!!! She’s very special to me, I love her character and how determined and focused she can be when it comes to the things she wants. If you gift something to me with Kairi in it I will be quite happy.

Something set between KH1 and KH2 would be great – what happens, when she can remember Riku but not Sora? When everyone else is sure that Riku is dead and that Sora never existed? When she is sure that something is missing, but she can’t put a name to it, but she knows that there are other worlds out there because she can remember Aerith and Yuffie and Leon, but there’s something she can’t recall about the picture?

Anything worldbuilding to do with Princesses of Heart/a heart of pure Light/Kairi’s powers would be amazing, how is she different from everyone else, and how is she the same?

Keyblade transformations/drive forms/fighting styles! What are they for her, who does she learn from, what worlds is she exploring when she gets them?

I love basically every gen relationship possible for Kairi, write something set between her and your fav KH character!

1. Malcolm Bright from Prodigal Son, the show already had 3 episodes out and one day decided to check it out, couldn't have made a better decision! Malcolm is my favourite whumpee atm for many reasons, (he gets whumped every episode being the main lol) Tom Payne plays him so well and we get so much emotional, psychological and physical whump and...yeah.

2. Titan's. You may be thinking, but that's a show and not a character but no I whump basically every single character and gah is it a blast. Dick Grayson, Jason Todd (I have a fic for him started), Gar Logan, and Kory Anders are all so whumpable and the family/team dynamic has me

3. Hmmm I gotta go with Poe Dameron right now, after seeing tros I have been thrown right back into my love for the x-wing pilot (if anyone has any whump fics for him...please send them over 🙏🙏🙏)

Honerable mention: Quentin Coldwater. Q was my man, I loved him so much and he struggled with a lot of the same things I did so reading whump fics with him was extremely theraputic but then SPOILER FOR MAGAICIANS S4 they killed him off in the worst way possible and I haven't been able to even think about Magicians recently...I'm really hoping they fix it because I really liked that show

And those are my top 3 whumpees at the moment! Some all time favs are Tony Stark, Matt Murdock, and much like my url and icon would suggest, Sherlock Holmes (RDJ)but that's me just trying to sneak more into the list 😜

The Liability: Chapter 1

And now for something a little different. Hello Teen Wolf fandom! I’m in love. Especially with Stiles. But also all of them. But mostly with Stiles. I can’t help it! He’s just so precious and whumpable. On that note, enjoy my first Teen Wolf fanfic!

Derek had never committed straight out, unprovoked murder. But tonight he was seriously considering it. He stopped walking and the footsteps behind him stopped. He took three more steps and paused with the same effect. He started walking faster and the crunching footsteps followed, even louder this time. Finally he turned around. “You know I can hear you following me right? Literally all of Beacon Hills can hear you from here.”

There was nothing but silence. “Stiles, I know you’re there. I can smell you.”

After several more seconds the offender stepped out from behind a tree. “First of all, I showered today, so I don’t smell. Second of all, I’m not following you. You happen to be investigating what I’m investigating so my proximity to you is just a coincidence.”

Derek smirked. “If you’re investigating what I’m investigating, does that make you one step behind me?”

Stiles thought for a moment. “Or you’re rushing ahead while I take the time to look at things with a more broad understanding.”

Derek rolled his eyes. “Go home Stiles. I don’t need your help.”

Stiles jogged and caught up with him. “Are you sure? Scott loves my help.”

“Well I’m not Scott.”

“Obviously. Scott would never leave his pack behind and walk alone into the woods in the middle of the night searching for a rogue omega who’s already injured two people.”

“You mean like you’re doing?”

“I’m not alone. I’m with you.”

Derek strongly disagreed. “I don’t need help. It’s one omega. I’ll track him down, take him out, end of story.”

“But are you sure there isn’t more to it? Do we have to just take him down? And how do you know it’s a him? That’s a little sexist. Girls can be werewolves too.”

“Because I have supernatural abilities and you don’t. Which makes it unsafe for you to be out here. So go home.” He emphasized the last two words.

Stiles stopped walking as Derek continued on. “Fine!” he yelled. “But if you get into some kind of god awful werewolf skirmish where your limbs get ripped off don’t come crying to m—“

There was a snarl, a flash of movement, and then a choked cry of pain. Derek whipped around to see Stiles pinned against a tree, the omega holding him there by his throat.

Derek let out a growl and sprang forward, knocking the offender off balance and away from Stiles. He slashed at its chest and throat, going for the kill rather than leave him to hurt another person in Beacon Hills. In return he took a bite to his shoulder and claws across his spine.

He roared in pain and threw his assailant into a tree. The omega squealed before loping off deeper into the woods. Derek got to his feet and began to follow, but there was a groan to his right and he remembered Stiles. The teen was lying prone on the ground. Chances were he’d be fine on his own now that the omega was on the run, but Scott would kill him if anything happened to his best friend. Derek walked toward him. “Stiles get up.”

Stiles sat up, rubbing his head. “Well that was less than fun.”

“Are you going to sit around all night?”

“Yes, I’m fine thanks for asking Derek,” Stiles said acidly as he began to get to his feet. “Ow.”

He pressed a hand to his stomach and when he pulled it away it was dark with blood. “Oh god.”

Derek’s own stomach lurched and his body moved with it. He went to his knees beside Stiles. “Lie down.”

Stiles stared down at the blood covering his hand, a bewildered look on his face. “Is that…am I bleeding?”

“Stiles lie down!” Derek pushed him forcefully back into the dirt. He ripped apart his shirt and found deep claw marks scoring the flesh on the boy’s abdomen, blood flowing from them at an alarming rate.

“Oh shit. This is bad right? Is this bad? Am I dying?” Stiles babbled. “Is this what dying feels like? I don’t want to die here with you Derek. I don’t even like you.”

“Shut up,” Derek growled as he pressed his hands against the torn flesh. “You’re not dying.”

Stiles let out a moan at the pressure and then continued to rasp out, “Am I turning? Didn’t Peter say something about that once? I don’t want to turn either! I’m very comfortable with the amount of body hair I already have.”

“You’re not turning! It’s not that bad.” That was kind of a lie. Derek didn’t have a vast amount of experience with injured humans, and while this didn’t seem instantly fatal, it didn’t seem like a papercut either. There was a lot of blood.

“I’m gonna throw up,” Stiles said.

“No you’re not. Take some deep breaths all right? We’re going to get you out of here.”

“It hurts when I breathe.”

“Well at least that means you’re not dead.”

The bleeding wasn’t stopping and Stiles’ pale face was beginning to look even whiter in the moonlight. If they didn’t do something fast things were going to take a turn for the worse. Derek didn’t want to think what Scott would do when he found out his best friend had been torn to shreds on Derek’s watch. He took a deep breath. “Hold this. Do not let go,” he said. He put a wad of Stiles’ torn shirt into the boy’s hand and then pressed it against the wound.

“Where are you going?”

“Up. Come on. Get up.” He hauled Stiles to his feet ignoring the grunts of pain and protest. “We have to get close enough to the road for cell service.”

“My insides are hanging on my outside and you’re worried about whether or not you can order a pizza?”

How could this kid be a hair from death and yet still so incredibly annoying? “No I’m worried about being able to call for help so I don’t have to bite you and make you part of my pack. Because honestly I can’t think of anything I want less in this life.”

“Right back at ya buddy,” Stiles said with a touch of actual venom in his voice. “If I’m joining anybody’s pack as a wolf, it’s Scott’s.”

“If you walk a little faster you won’t have to join a pack at all,” Derek snapped more harshly than he meant.

They stumbled through the undergrowth and Derek tried not to think about what would happen if the omega turned around came after them. He could feel his own wounds beginning to itch as they knit back together, but Stiles wouldn’t be so lucky. In fact if anything, all this jostling about was going to make his injuries worse.

Stile’s knees buckled and Derek stumbled as he took the boy’s full weight. “Stiles, come on!”

“Sorry, I just, I need to sit for a second,” he gasped.

Derek lowered him to the ground. Blood was streaming from the wounds even faster than before. “Oh geez. That’s a lot of blood,” Stiles said thickly, his eyes slightly unfocused.

“Don’t look at it,” Derek said. The fabric Stiles was holding was soaked with blood so he ripped off the bottom of his own shirt and pressed it into the wound. Stiles moaned in pain, his back arching against it. Derek felt a trickle of something, maybe compassion, maybe just straight up fear. “Hey, Stiles, come on. Pain makes us human. Tough it out.”

“Easy for you to say. I’m the only one out here who’s ever been human,” Stiles said between gritted teeth.

Some of the fight had come back into his eyes and Derek took that as a sign he was ready and hauled him to his feet again. They walked for ten more minutes before Derek began to hear the faint sounds of the road and then, as if by a miracle, they came across Stiles’ jeep. “Oh thank god,” he breathed moving a little bit faster.

He shoved Stiles into the passenger side, pressing the makeshift bandage further into the gaping flesh. “Hold it tight,” he said firmly.

He jumped into the driver’s side and hit the gas, fishtailing a little as they pulled onto the road. He managed to get his phone out of his pocket and dial Scott. It went straight to voicemail. “Scott it’s me. Come to hospital. It’s Stiles.”

He glanced over at Stiles to see his eyes closed, mouth slightly open. “Stiles! Hey! Talk to me! Don’t go to sleep!”

His eyes opened blearily. “I thought you wanted me to shut up.”

“Not right now. Talk. About something. Anything. Come on. Tell me how much you hate me.”

“I hate you.”

“How much?”

“A lot.”

“Why?”

There was no response. “Stiles come on! Why do you hate me?”

“You stink,” Stiles mumbled.

“And what else?”

“You’re a pompous asshole.”

Derek nodded. “True.”

“You stole my best friend.”

Derek looked at him sharply. “What?”

But Stiles didn’t answer. His head flopped forward and the hand that had been keeping the wound closed slid down until blood began dripping onto the seat.

“Shit!” Derek hit the gas and took them flying into the parking lot of the hospital. “Stiles wake up!” he growled as he pulled him from the car.

He burst through the hospital doors and his eyes landed on Melissa McCall. Blessed Melissa McCall who would know what to do. Who would know how to fix this. “He’s bleeding out!” he said desperately.

“Call Dr. Morton!” Melissa ordered as Derek laid Stiles on a gurney. “What happened?”

“It was an omega,” Derek said quietly. “He’s lost a lot of blood.”

“What about you?” Her eyes glanced over the gashes in his shirt and side.

“I’m healing. Take care of Stiles.”

Five seconds later they were gone and Derek was left alone. He sank down into a chair. He had no obligation to wait. Stiles wasn’t his pack. But something kept him glued to the seat. Maybe it was guilt. Maybe it was some kind of loyalty to Scott. Or maybe it was the way Stiles had looked while unconscious in the car, so helpless and broken. Whatever it was, Derek stayed until Melissa came and found him.

“Derek?”

“How is he?” he asked, trying not to sound too anxious.

“He lost a lot of blood. He’s pretty weak. But they were able to fix the damage. He’s lucky that thing missed his vital organs. He’ll be all right.”

Derek exhaled. “I was standing right there. I told him to go. If I’d just paid more attention…” the words tumbled from his lips unbidden. Apparently he felt guiltier than he’d thought.

She touched his hand. “You got him here in time. You saved his life.”

It had been so long since he’d had a mom he’d almost forgotten what it felt like. Her assurance soothed his broken spirit.

“Come on.” She put a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s get you cleaned up.”

He rose and then looked around, aware that someone was missing. “Where’s the sheriff?”

“He’s out of town. I called him and he’s on his way back. Probably speeding if I know him.”

Derek nodded tiredly, wincing as the still tender wounds on his back pulled. “You’re sure you’re okay?” Melissa asked.

Physically he was fine. Emotionally…he wasn’t sure yet. But he’d already said more than he’d meant to. He took a breath and shoved his feelings back down where they belonged. “Yeah, I’m good.”
