My final finished object of 2023 - and the first of three "better late than never" FO posts - is my Neon Nectar by Wool and Pine! I think this is my favorite make ever up to this point - every time I put it on, I never want to take it off! It fits so nicely, the yarn is so nice, it's super comfy, I just love everything about it!
What's that? I never posted about this project at all until this very post? You are correct. Also, shush.

Shout-out to all the fat, mid size, and overall not-skinny fibre workers who are trying to make clothes for themselves and you're having to double sizes and yarn amounts for it to fit your body, I am sending you good vibes and luck with finishing your project.

send me strength y’all
the only thing that frustrates me about being a fat knitter is the fact that I want to make myself pretty cardigans and sweaters using stash yarn... but I don’t have the yardage or patience

Oh no. In order to create the things I visualize in my head I may have to learn how to sew.

I'm a long time knitter thinking about getting into spinning (probably not soon bc I live in a tiny apartment and barely have room for my knitting stuff), but I'm curious: what do you do with your handspun yarn? Do you ever spin enough to make a larger project like a sweater? (That's mostly what I like to knit)
one of the cool things about handspun is that you can literally make anything out of it!
i personally have made socks, shawls, hats, mittens, scarves, and—once—a baby sweater, but not an adult sweater. (yet.) this is for a couple reasons, though.
first, i'm fat. i'm not especially fussed about it, but it does mean that just from a coverage perspective, my 53"/135 cm bust is going to need a lot more yarn than someone with a 35"/89cm bust.
the second reason complicates the first: i really don't like knitting with worsted-and-heavier yarns. i'm currently working on a jumper that has 4.75 stitches to the inch, and i am suffering because i hate how big everything is. so spinning for a jumper for myself means probably 2000 metres of sock weight. which, don't get me wrong, would be fun, but this brings me to:
the third (and biggest) reason, which is that i'm disabled, and for a lot of years i had to really limit how much spinning i could do because my damaged hips couldn't bear the motion of treadling. for probably ten years, i didn't spin more than 100g of anything, because even doing that much could take me a month or more of regular spinning sessions.
that said, reason the third has been largely mitigated by my eel wheel, so i've actually been thinking about trying to spin for a sweater this year! my personal physical issues made spinning really hard for a while, but generally speaking, there's absolutely no reason you can't spin for a sweater, and there are quite a few people around here who've done so with beautiful results.
i will say, with regards to spinning, that it's a remarkably forgiving craft with regards to space. i cleaned out my nightstand the other day and discovered four spindles and 50g of fibre in it—i hadn't even realised they were in there! spinning supplies can be really tiny, so it's actually a great choice for small spaces. a drop spindle and some fibre will fit almost anywhere you want them to, so space doesn't have to be a huge concern if you don't want it to be. i hope you give it a go!

Secret Flowers - Chapter 31
Dean let his treasure fall in a pile next to the cash register.
“Did you find everything you wanted, dear?”
“Yes, Ma’am.”  She seemed like a ma’am.  Friendly, but due a certain amount of respect.  She probably had a wooden spoon beneath the counter to rap the knuckles of anyone not minding his ps and qs.
She wasn’t ringing up the stuff, though.  The knitting needles carried on wiggling.
“Yarn is on offer.  Buy one get one free.”  She nodded toward the display on the far side of the cash register - a pot of different sized knitting needles and a neat stack of colourful balls of yarn.
“Uh, I’m not much of a knitter.”
The needles stopped.  Two bright, sharp eyes fastened on Dean’s.  “Have you ever tried, young man?  It’s very therapeutic, knitting.  Very relaxing.”
Young man.  He supposed if you were on the wrong side of seventy, a forty-something was young,  And maybe she knew what she was talking about.  Cas hadn’t done any knitting lately.  Maybe some new yarn would help cheer him up.  And he might have some happy knitting memories to distract him from all the bad stuff, mightn’t he?  Probably he remembered something from when people first discovered knitting - in Ancient Egypt.  Or Ancient Mesopotamia.  Dean didn’t know where Mesopotamia had been - or where it still was, for all he knew - but lots of things had happened there, according to Cas.
“Go on.  Have a look.”
Dean left his treasure and slid along the counter, feeling like a kid who’d been left at Grandma’s house for the afternoon and wasn’t sure whether he really had to be on his best behaviour or if actually Grandma was a soft touch.  Not that he’d ever known his grandparents when he was a kid.
He took a fat ball of yarn from the stack.  It was soft and gave easily under his grip, his fingers sinking in between the fluffy strands which were all shades of blue.  Like Cas’s eyes.
“That’s a beautiful colour mix, isn’t it?  So many shades.”
“Yeah.”
“You’d need size eight needles for that yarn.”
“It’s for my friend.  He already has needles.”  Friend.  Should he have said boyfriend?  Partner?  Suddenly he wanted to say it.  He wanted to stand up and stand out for what he was to Cas and what Cas was to him.  “My boyfriend,” he said, looking the old lady dead in the eye.
The busy needles paused again.  She looked down at the pile of things on the counter and then back at Dean, her bright eyes narrowed.  “Well then, I hope you’ll forgive a nosy old lady for asking, but might some of these be in the nature of apology gifts?  Have you and your boy had a tiff?”
Dean snorted a surprised laugh and shook his head.  “No.”  She was right, labelling herself nosy, but the enquiry was completely without judgement and he was grateful for that.  “Cas - my boyfriend - he’s a bit down.  He’s going through some sh- some stuff at the moment.  I’m just trying to cheer him up.”
“Oh.  Well.  I’m sure you’ll succeed.”  Her face softened, her brows drew together in sympathy.  “I’m Doris.”  She put down her knitting and stuck out her hand.
Dean shook it - small and bony, cool and dry.  Her hand felt fragile, but there’d be some strength in it.  Wiry old ladies were like that - all smiles and afternoon tea until they caught you in the wrong - helping yourself to fruit from their garden - and then you’d discover just how much strength, as well as accuracy they could get behind a swipe from a walking cane.
“Dean,” he introduced himself.
“And your boy’s name is… Cas?”
“Castiel.”
“Oh, that’s pretty.  Very unusual.”
Dean laughed.  “You got him right there - pretty and very unusual.”
“You love him very much.”
A smile curled up the corners of Dean’s lips and heat spread over his cheeks and all the way to the tips of his ears.  "Yeah, I do."

Hiii I wanted to tell u ur one of the reasons I decided to learn how to knit and now I’m coming up on 1 year! What are your knitting plans for this winter? 🧶
Omg 🥺 that's so amazing!!! My main plan is to knit the storm sweater by petite knit before Christmas.
Tumblr media
Rn I am in a test knitting group for a sweater called the Siwol sweater, for south Korean designer Cookie The Knitter. I'm knitting in pale yellow peer gynt by Sandnes Garn !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am also knitting some Christmas gifts, mostly hats. I am knitting myself some very fluffy brushed alpaca accessories... A pale blue extremely fluffy fat fur hat, and pink fingerless mittens. I want to knit fair aisle colorwork or boucle mittens for myself too... if I have time !! for later winter, early 2024, I want to knit a big colorwork yoke. I am thinking the super Selene by Anne Ventzel
Tumblr media
But mine would have a dusty pink body. I have a huge quantity of pink unspun yarn that I think would make a really big cozy jumper like that one.

fat clothes bullshit
As it is a fact universally known that once you hit double-digit sizes, clothing that isn’t fugly, uncomfortable, or both becomes hard to find on almost a logarithmic scale, I’ve always got an eye out for somewhere that doesn’t appear to hate its customers in order to spend my fat fashion dollar.
Most recently, I succumbed to the Universal Standard hype. The tl;dr: it is well-fitted decent quality basics for people of all sizes (from US size 00- 40). Every piece is available in every size -there aren’t different ‘plus’ styles - and most pieces come in a wide variety of colors.. It’s slightly more expensive than Torrid (about equivalent with Lane Bryant), and unlike either of those options it doesn’t look like 2003 threw up on it and died.
That said, when I say “basics” I do mean basic. There’s some pieces with construction interest to them like the Meridian asymmetric zip jackets, and there’s some tunics and dresses with interesting shapes, but for the most part it is very much wardrobe-staple type items in simple styles and almost zero prints/plaids/pattern of any kind, even just stripes.
In my opinion, that’s perfect because a) I have a deeply ambivalent relationship with girly shit, and b)  I’m a scarf/shawl/cowl knitter and a jewelry maker; solid colors are a great canvas for statement accessories. But if your jam is more high femme and print/detail interest than clean-lined bordering on gender neutral (a good amount of their clothing, although sized and tailored for AFAB, could certainly read nonbinary or agender depending on the pieces), you might find it uninspiring. However, you may still want to consider their pants and tees  as potential infrastructure to rotate more trendy/dainty pieces around if Torrid or LB is doing that for you now and you don’t love the (lack of) durability.
If any of that sounds like you would like to know more, more specific product reviews behind the readmore.
1) the T-rex/V-rex t-shirts are cotton/modal, soft but heavy enough that I didn’t get bra lines, the colors looked pretty faithful to how they were on screen (enough that I was able to match a pair of pants from another vendor and was still happy when able to physically put the two together) they’re neither baggy nor mad clingy/revealing, and they don’t feel like the hems will be unraveling and holes growing around the stitching after a season. The V of the v-neck does what it needs to do without showing bra; the crew neck that I was ambivalent about getting (wanted the color but generally don’t like crew necks) is cut wide enough that it’s got a little style and doesn’t feel like it’s strangling a person. They’re both decently long enough to not ride up and expose your back when you bend over/long enough to tuck in if that’s how you roll (I am 5′7″ for reference). They feel a lot more quality than Torrid’s basic V-necks and come in a LOT more colors, as long as they wash decently these are worth getting. Keep your eye out for sales.
2) the liquid jersey Genevette top - the fabric is amazing, it’s a slinky rayon that for something as soft as it is just falls straight down without sticking weirdly to any lumps, bumps or bulges. It’s an asymmetrical piece that on me at least falls long enough to be a good length to wear with leggings (same place as on the skinnier model displaying it, kudos to the people who graded the pattern and actually knew what they were doing). I’m just praying I don’t dump coffee on it or something. Will definitely acquire more pieces in this fabric if it washes well.
3) The Meridian Zip jacket’s two-way zipper is actually metal and heavy. It’s almost pure cotton and more structured than I was expecting; if you are looking for “cozy” this isn’t it. It is however warm, easy to wear and fashion enough to get away with in a business casual environment iif like me, sweaters make you itchy and blazers are annoyingly constricting and sweaty. (the autistic person’s go-to office layering piece!) Unfortunately, they’re out of a lot of colors right now after their Mystery Box event. II hope they restock or add more, I would definitely buy another one in the steel or navy if they had it in my size.
4) The sweats I got as a “mystery bonus” item I think they are the Hathaway Jersey Jogger - annoyingly, any “mystery” items you get still don’t have what product they are on the tags when you get them. This is dumb, because how are you supposed to order them again if you liked them? Anyway, they are heavy and soft - not fuzzy, but very drapey/silky unlike the Meridian jacket. They DO have pockets and DON’T have a drawstring, which are exactly what I’m looking for in lounge pants, hooray! I don’t know that I would have paid upfront what these cost for something that’s around-the-house or errand pants, but I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for sales.
5) Universal Standard’s claim to fame are their jeans. To get a taste without a huge price commitment, I got a mystery box with some. I think the ones I ended up with are the Seine skinny midrise in dark wash (again, irritatingly, they are not labeled wth a product name because mystery box.) They are true to size (US gives both size measurements and individual product dimension measurements which is super nice), the waistband is not pinchy and nor does it gap in the back, pockets your whole hand fits in and they don’t creep if you’re getting up and down a lot (LOOKING AT YOU TORRID). The real test of jeans of course is how they come out of their first wash, but they’re a win on try-on and if they wash well, I’d be willing to buy at full price. It gives me some more confidence to try their work pants too, now that I have more faith that their sizing is actually as described.

Peril without escape, Tori is tied to a one of Alphys' inventions, a conveyor belt slowly taking her towards a large mallet. If goat mom doesn't get out soon, she'll be flattened and moulded into the perfect pair of panties for a fat lizard butt...
Toriel pulled at her bonds, all trussed and tied and laid out on a conveyor belt! Alphys stood nearby, with her back turned to the goatmom, and Toriel had to admit, the one nice thing about the situation was that Alphys's tail was raised and she wasn't wearing anything underneath the labcoat. But even the sight of bare lizard ass wasn't going to calm her down or make her accept this situation!
"J-just a few moments more, Toriel!" Alphys said, adjusting levers and knobs on the machine controls. "Then we'll be all set! Should this go right, we'll be able to prove that my machine can make panties from anything, with um, minimal damage to the material! I hope..." Up ahead on the conveyor belt, a long series of machine implements were ready for her. A giant mallet, a rolling pin, folders, steamers, anti-wrinklers... Each time the mallet THUMPed to the belt, the force shook Toriel's body! But she couldn't so much as rock from side to side, the conveyor belt was enclosed on all sides with glass panes.. As she was wheeled closer and closer, she tried to yell through the muffling gag on her face, screaming out...!
SLAM! Down came the mallet, flattening the goatmom into a pancake, with some of her splutted out around the edge. Next came the rolling pin, flattening her completely into a square. She went through wringers and fabric softeners, knitters and fluffers, until she was the softest, silkiest, fluffiest fabric. Then, she was washed, rinsed, blow-dried, un-shrunk, folded and refolded, and stitched into a plush, prime pair of panties! Alphys clapped her hands as the final product came to her, and immediately stepped into them, pulling them up around her butt. It worked! And better yet, this was the first pair of panties that hadn't immediately gotten swallowed up by her asscrack! Though time will tell if it stays that way.. She excitedly waddled towards her desk to record notes on the process, Toriel's embarrassed face stamped on the butt of her panties.

I was tagged by @not-nervous-jester and @sassygwaine to find the words sigh, sweet and taste in my WIP! I don't have much of the next chapter of Prisons of Our Own Perceptions written, so this is all going to be from the published bits, which I think counts.
Sigh:
“Oh …” With a sigh, Stede lowered the spyglass. “That’s too bad – I was really hoping to get to see you and your crew in action.”
It took all of a moment for Ed to find himself saying, “You know, this would be a great time for us to show you a fuckery, actually.”
Sweet:
“Iz,” he ordered, and jerked his head to indicate the wheel. Still clearly ruffled, Izzy took over for him while glaring at Stede the entire time, his body language like a cat threatened with cold water. “This is really good! I didn’t know Sharkey had it in him.”
“Roach, my cook on the – on the Revenge,” Stede began, faltering. “Well, he was a dab hand with sweets. I wish I could give you some of the marmalade he used to make.”
Taste:
The food had looked like ordinary enough fare when it was served – well, ordinary in a relative sense; it had looked significantly better than what he’d become used to in recent weeks – but it turned out to taste extraordinary. A thin-sliced roast beef that was butter soft inside and just the right shade of pink, with a well-seasoned crust; fingerling potatoes, fried in fat until their skins were perfectly crisp; and a chunk of warm brown bread with just the right balance of density and rise.
I tag @chaotic-neutral-knitter, @stripedroseandsketchpads, and anyone else who wants to do it!

The Numerous Beauty Stands to benefit of Eggs for Your Hair and Skin
Nature’s hair care product
Eggs are your hair’s superfood. Egg whites and thralldom each have numerous benefits to keep hair candescent and healthy. Egg thralldom are densely packed with vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as folate and lecithin. Eggs also come with further than 8 grams of protein, half of which is set up in the white and half in the thralldom . Egg whites are bootstrappers of selenium, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorous.
All put together, eggs deliver bobby
, zinc, iron, and all kinds of hair- loving B vitamins for inflexibility, strength, and overall healthy hair including vitamins B1, B2, B5, and B7. The B7 vitamin is especially salutary for hair growth and if you choose lawn- fed or free- range eggs, you also get omega- 3 adipose acids. In one little round- shaped vessel, you have further than 20 vital nutrients knitter made for healthy hair.
Thralldom or whites?
An egg’s two- act show brings a variety of natural prices for hair and skin. The natural fats in thralldom offer moisturizing benefits without using artificial creams or chemicals. Egg whites contain enzymes that ingurgitate up bacteria, keep your crown clean, and remove redundant oil painting and grease. operation depends on hair type; for illustration, use amalgamated whites and thralldom for normal hair and for unctuous hair, apply the whites to your crown and the thralldom on the ends of your hair.
Eggs are great for boosting the protein in hair as well. Our entire bodies are made of protein and hair is composed of one of those proteins known as keratin. The protein we eat is broken down into amino acids which are also turned into proteins. Hair follicles produce keratin that initiates hair growth, so protein is veritably important for healthy, vibrant hair. An egg mask 1- 3 times a week and a diet rich in eggs keeps your protein situations high and your hair in top shape.
Eggs and your skin
Just like the benefits for hair, eggs are a great nutritional boost for your skin as well. The lutein in eggs provides hydration and pliantness for skin and accompanying protein helps repair towel and keeps skin establishment.
Egg thralldom in particular is loaded with adipose acids that add humidity to the skin while egg whites include albumin, a simple protein that tightens pores and removes redundant oil painting. For a quick and effective skin treatment to close pores, try the eggs online.

As a fat knitter, I really don’t get the movement of skinny people only knitting patterns that are size inclusive. Like yeah, all patterns should be inclusive, but if a pattern exists and you like it and it’s in your size, and it’s free, then just make it??? Maybe copy it down so you don’t keep going back to their site but like. It already exists?? You not making the knit wear does nothing??
