Nazis or neo-Nazis are not a 21st century phenomenon in the U.S. This man, Frank Moffer, was a captain in the "Khaki Shirts" of Art J. Smith. Smith promoted himself as a dashing figure who flew bomber planes for Pancho Villa and served as Kerensky's aide in Russia. Until he embraced fascism, newspapers swallowed his stories whole and found him a colorful, harmless figure.
Smith registered the Khaki Shirts as a corporation and charged for membership, clothing, and expenses--the more they paid, the higher their rank in his army. He claimed to have 2,000 members in the tri-state area and an artillery of weapons of war. (This was probably as truthful as his claims of an adventurous past.)
In July, 1933, Smith staged a rally in Astoria that was infiltrated by supporters of Carlo Tresca, an anti-fascist leader (see this post). One of them was shot dead, and the Khakis tried to pin the murder on Athos Terzani, a colleague of the dead man. Bizarrely, the police arrested him. His trial became a leftist cause celebre, with Tresca and Norman Thomas organizing Terzani's defense.
The prosecution's case crumbled when Smith changed his story and another witness recanted his earlier testimony. Terzani was acquitted and Smith's bodyguard, Moffer (pictured above in court on February 13, 1934), confessed to the shooting. Smith was convicted of perjury and faded into obscurity.

"I don't care about shipcourse, I touch grass hurr durr"
But you do realize that antis are part of a far right push towards wider censorship policies in actual real life. Of actual real art. Right? Right??????
You touch grass but do you ever want to touch a piece of non-corporate-approved not cookie cutter white christian media again? You ever read a book that has been banned and think "well jeez it would suck if I lived in a time when I would get arrested for this."
THE TIME IS HERE. THE PUSH IS NOW. ARTISTS OF ALL SORTS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FANFICTION OR SHIPPING HAVE BEEN SPEAKING OUT AND WARNING YOU ABOUT THIS FOR AGES. IT IS NOT A "CHRONICALLY ONLINE" STANCE TO THINK CENSORSHIP IS BAD AND ACTIVELY DANGEROUS TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO CANNOT BUY THEIR WAY OUT OF JAIL. THE NAZIS HAD A WHOLE THING ABOUT "GOOD MORALLY PURE ART" AND "BAD MORALLY DEGENERATE ART" TOO. THEY BURNED RECORDS OF QUEER CLINICS. THEY CENSORED ANY NEWS THAT WASN'T WITH THEIR AGENDA. DOES THAT REMIND YOU OF ANYTHING DOES IT.

found 'the way' a really interesting piece of speculative fiction exploring the idea of anti-migrant xenophobic violence being turned inwards towards 'legitimate citizens' when interests of capital are threatened by struggle, but this sequence in the last episode def stood out to me as a neoluddite.
feels connected to this quote from dan mcquillan's 'resisting ai - an anti-fascist approach to artificial intelligence':
Bergson argued that if one accepts a ready- made problem in this way, "one might just as well say that all truth is already virtually known, that its model is patented in the administrative offices of the state, and that philosophy is a jig- saw puzzle where the problem is to construct with the pieces society gives us the design it is unwilling to show us." (Deleuze, 2002, cited in Coleman, 2008) In other words, however sophisticated or creative AI might seem to be, its modelling is stuck in abstractions drawn from the past, and so becomes a rearrangement of the way things have been rather than a reimagining of the way things could be. AI has, in effect, an inbuilt political commitment to the status quo, in particular to existing structures that embed specific relations of power. The absence of different concepts leaves out the possibility of conceiving that things could be arranged differently.

the fact that people on that last post are saying its 'purity culture' to imply that Having A Nazi Phase Is Bad is really like. nightmarish american individualism coming crashing together with the Validation craze to concoct a rhetoric where nobody's actions get to negatively impact them as long as they feel the correct sort of way about it. like i fully support anyone who has managed to deradicalize because that's always a good thing. but if you were as actually deradicalized as you were claiming to be you would fully understand why no one is obligated to coddle your feelings around the subject of previously being convinced that there are certain types of people who are born subhuman.

Hey yknow how a few months into the pandemic folk finally realised that compassion fatigue is a real tangible thing that comes on real quick when no matter how much you do the right thing, the powers that be continue to make it harder and insist on making choices that harm and kill people regardless, and we started being a lot more gentle with folk who were tangibly doing the right things (staying home, masking, testing) but were too exhausted to share statistics, correct misinfo and otherwise preach from the rooftops about it?
can we have that understanding for people who will pour their spare change into relief funds and take part in boycotts to the best of their abilities but still don't want untagged photos and videos or graphic descriptions of dead children on their social media feeds?

"cultural marxism" is an antisemitic dogwhistle
hey fun fact for anyone who doesnt know, if you hear someone talking about "cultural marxists taking over", they mean jewish ppl. marx talked about economics and societal structure, not culture - which are two very different things when you recognise that he only spoke of societal structure in terms of economics.
"According to the theory of 'Cultural Marxism,' a group of Jewish Marxists called the Frankfurt School have profoundly reshaped society and public opinion; deciding to abandon the original Marxist goal of an international working-class revolution, they sought to implement socialism through a slow, creeping takeover of 'culture.' Under such names as 'political correctness' and 'multiculturalism,' so the theory goes, 'Cultural Marxists' indoctrinated and shamed 'the West' into abandoning Christianity, family, and nation in favor of a new worldview and system of control, involving mass immigration, sexual liberation, and moral and aesthetic decline."
(shout out to @darkfalcon-z for the source and correcting my original post! please reblog this version instead as the other had inaccurate information)
jewish people pls feel free to add anything you feel relevant

There is no non-conservative, non-fascist way to use "degenerate" and "degenerative theory." Those ideas are entrenched in fascism because that is where they originate from - there isn't a way to "reclaim" or "purify" them into progressive language and thought. Every time you describe queerness, disability, non-xtian religions, non-white or non-west cultures or races of peoples as "degenerative," you are doing the work of fascists, if you do not already see yourself as such.

Unfortunately not an April Fools joke: two members of the American Nazi Party sign up a new member in the headquarters of the German National Socialist Party, April 1, 1932. A portrait of Adolf Hitler hangs on the wall at left.

we need to stop pathologizing right-wing violence and political actions asap, not only is it liberal scapegoating to avoid talking about the real reasons these problems arrive, it also throws mentally ill people under the bus for actions that arent inherent to having a mental illness. being mentally ill doesnt turn you into a terrorist or make you a politician who tries to strip human rights from the populace, no not even if you think theyre "monsters devoid of empathy."
a politician or corporate ceo does not make the decisions to defund welfare programs or make their employees work awful hours and try to break up unions because theyre "narcissists" or "avoidant personality psychopaths" or bc they "have aspergers" or whatever other heavily demonized mental illness you want to armchair diagnose them with to waive away real world conditions and resign these behaviors as just a biological component of being a "scary" mentally ill person. they do these things for a reason, because they work under capitalist logic. they do the things that will make them the most amount of profit in the short term and will try to break down anything that threatens their profits or challenge the company lobbies that line their pockets, not because torturing their workers makes them feel good.
american mass violence is caused by rising right-wing extremism and white supremacy brought on by the internet and mainstream news networks like fox news, not because the assailant was a "troubled kid" who was bullied. people will go on and on about how we need better mental health treatments while resigning the killer's right-wing manifesto as a fucking footnote as if it has nothing to do with their actions, and how we need gun control and even MORE police funding to keep guns out of mentally ill people's hands (and keep the guns in the hands of privileged white supremacists, as history will tell you that gun control laws in america were mostly brought along to deliberately disarm left-wing black movements)
people don't want to admit that these actions are not irrational or that theyre not actually caused by some inherent human evil, because that would mean theres something wrong with the system and the culture of american society that needs addressing, which is too hard to commit to. instead, scapegoating mentally ill people (who are more likely to be poor and the target of violence) is easier, to say these actions are because the few bad apples simply have a biological trait inside them that makes them sadistic murderers, that theres no way there could be any cultural or economic reward behind their actions that make them act the way they do. no, theres no way a SANE person could commit these atrocities! we dont have to address any systemic problems then, to prevent this from happening again.
