Alright, here are some screenshots from the new iwtv s2 trailer and me theorizing over them like a rabid fangirl. Hafl meta, half madness.

ok, so this bit of dialogue here where they are talking about Daniel and the interview

Armand: He wants you in pieces for the privilege of putting them back together as he sees fit. Louis: It's his job. Armand: It's his drug. He's reveling in it. You should end it.

Is Armand bitter? Is this how he saw his and Daniel's relationship? If so he is big mad. Like, this man has had decades to stew in that post-breakup anger. Memory is a monster and all that. So he's had plenty of time to do that thing where people breakup, get pissed off, and only remember the bad times. We twist our own memory all the time, that's one of the ways people get past shit. So Armand has probably twisted what he and Daniel has. Because my boy does not handle rejection well.

Or maybe he is projecting? Messing with Louis' memories (which it seems like he did. though i do believe he thought he was helping Louis at the time. a monster in love is still a monster) could very well be putting him back as Armand sees fit. That's what he may believe he did to Louis. Though the definition of 'as he sees fit' could have multiple meanings. I think personally that Armand sees (or at least justifies) messing with Louis memories as for Louis own good.

Either way, he does not want Daniel poking into Louis' head.

this is just some loumand cuteness. look, Armand kisses Louis on the cheek. i think Armand is or was probably pretty affectionate when him and Louis were alone together. I remember that interview with Assad saying there was a tenderness to Louis and Armand's relationship. there's a whole bunch of cute little shots of them together. but they are hard to get a cleat shot of because they sort of fade into each other in the video.

like, i know in my heart the loumand breakup is coming this season. but i'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. bc this version of loumand has got me hooked. i have to confess, i was never really a big fan of loumand in the iwtv book. the whole claudia of it all ruined it for me. but i am so fascinated to see how these two made it work for 77 years.

and this. the way Claudia and Armand look at each other when they first spot each other. that quick second before the mask can slip into place. they do not like each other. they are enduring for Louis' sake. at least until he picks one of them.

then like a split second later, she has this tight smile on her face. my baby girl is not happy

look at their faces y'all. this is during Louis' 'life is shit' bit of dialogue. where he tells Claudia to stop feeling sorry for herself. he also says they 'can't be running away again' do they find other vampires before Paris? According to her diaries, they were in Romania in 1941. And Louis says something about they can't be the only 'good ones'

We also know they were in Paris, Nov 14 from Claudia's diaries. The interview is set in 2022. Louis mentions earlier in the clip him and Armand have been together 77 years. So they'd have to have gotten together in 1945. Given how quickly things happened in the book, I'd say they were probably only there a few months.

this has to be Allesandra. it has to be. I can't wait for this Armand backstory stuff.

y'all look at this fuckery. Santiago is kissing some woman while riding a motorcycle. idk if she is a victim or another vampire. and i think possibly the bike might be flying? I can't tell. It looks pretty cool though.

oh look, a scythe. i wonder what that could possibly be foreshadowing. they have to have the scene, the way they've shown a scythe in a few different teasers/trailers now.

this might be Madeliene, but I don't know. The hair doesn't fit what we've seen so far. my theory is that this is Madeleine's sister who dies via vampires. in the books she lost a daughter, and it was why she was so eager to play mother to Claudia. Having a child that could almost literally never die would have had to seem like, the greatest thing ever. switching it to a sister would be fitting, seeing as Claudia is playing the role of sister to Louis

So my thought here, (and I know I am theorizing based on nothing but vibes) is that Madeleine is looking into the vampires bc her sister went missing after going to a show at the Theatre des Vampires. And at some point, Claudia will reveal what they are to her.

That may be why she looked so scared in that other teaser we had. These pics are from it and they are blurry af, so sorry bout that

This could be the vampires warning her to mind her business. Why not kill her outright? Bc they like to play with their food. Or bc Claudia wants to keep her, and Armand knows he has to get Claudia out of the way to be with Louis. So he could just like, order the coven to not kill this one human. And then later 'convinces' Louis to turn her into a vampire, so Claudia will have her own companion and gtfo

like, i know it's hard to tell from this one shot, but Armand seems to be on the verge of having a full on tantrum. while saying Lestat's name over and over. Probably bc he heard how much Louis was talking about Lestat to Daniel. he's probably mad jelly, but like, in both directions.

look at this shit. Armand straight up hisses and pushes Lestat away with his vampire powers. (this I think is may not 1945 Paris, but around when they first meet. idk though)

this is how Lestat seemed to be dressed in the image above. and given the whole look of him (you know, in full health) i think this is around the time Lestat meets the Children of Satan

y'all I am screaming. this is Lestat drinking Armand's blood. did they fuck? did Lestat hit it and quit it?

At least Claudia gets to tell Louis off for picking Armand over her. But she definitely was not loving Paris.

so here we have Daniel saying he wants to get out alive (then we have him making this strange face where it looks like he wants to cry, another shot of Armand) while this other dude says that Daniel fears Armand and that he should fear the other one. Who tf is this guy? Are they still in the penthouse? Did Daniel leave and go out somewhere to meet this guy? Who is this man? Maybe another vampire that paid a visit? Is he this Leonard guy we've heard about? bc that does not look like David Costabile, but tv hair and makeup can perform magic, so maybe it is?

here we have Louis throwing his cup of blood at a painting. it's ok baby boy, you are entitled to a hissy fit every now and again

Okay I'm suddenly having Farangis brainrot and consequently have like, a bucketload of questions. Hear me out.

Was Farangis native to Khuzestan? Was she born elsewhere, sent to a temple from that region, only to be transferred to the temple in Khuzestan or was she from Khuzestan to begin with? I realize this is somewhat of a stupid line of question but whatever! My brain can't help it! I wonder how young she was when her parents died and she was sent to the temple, fairly young? 8-9-ish? Even younger? In her teens? I'm just now pondering in amusement how she ended up on the opposite end of Pars from her homeland— southwest to northeast. Also I planned to have her join the clan around the same time Ranna does: aka when she's about like, 13 and they 7 or so, and have them bond with each other as they get accustomed to their new home, but maybe I should move it up a little, but gah I've gotten so fond of the idea!

I'm not sure there are confirmed answers to many of these questions but let's have look at what the novels say! (These are exactly the sorts of things I wonder about too, so I'm more than happy to look into them.)

I don't recall seeing any direct reference to where Farangis was born. It could have been in the region of Khuzestan, or it could simply be that the cultural importance of the temple at the time was what led to her being sent there. It does seem that she was sent there to be raised immediately after her mother's death, though (her father died earlier, leaving her mother more or less a fortune, half of which her mother instructed to be donated to the temple after her death, while the other half was left for Farangis herself). Her mother asked that the temple support her daughter, presumably because there were no other relatives capable of providing for her, or perhaps because she saw being raised in the temple and becoming a priestess as the choice that provided the best future for her daughter.

The temple of Mithra in Khuzestan was built as a donation to mark the birth of Prince Arslan (ordered by Andragoras himself). Arslan was born in 306, at which time Farangis was around 8. So that's the youngest she could have been when she was sent there, and I do tend to think it was likely to be around that age that her life at the temple began.

This seems like a good place to talk about Khuzestan itself, since I mentioned that geographically it doesn't match up with the real life location. It is an area located east of Ecbatana, west of Peshawar Fortress and just north of the Nimruz Mountains. (That's not super specific, but the comment about the Nimruz range helps the most, especially because that's included on the map from the guide that covers up to Book 10)

As well as being just slightly above just above the Nimruz mountains, if Khuzestan is more or less mid-way between Ecbatana and Peshawar that would make it very close to Soleimaniye's location on the Continental Road.

The Chinese version describes Khuzestan as a 'small town' (小镇) but when checking the Japanese the novel is actually talking about the Khuzestan region (地方) which makes more sense.

Now for a little cypress diversion; we were talking about cypresses being planted around temples in ancient Iran, and although I didn't see a mention of it for the temple of Mithra in Khuzestan, the temple of Ashi in the Oxus region is surrounded by them, so that appears to be a thing in Parsian culture too. (Although this is a female-only temple dedicated to a different god, there's a little more detail of temple life in that section which probably applies to other temples like the one in Khuzestan too, so it's a good section to look at for inspiration for that.)

And also, since I may as well add it to this post after I think I forgot to mention it in comments yesterday, concerning the novel's use of the term magpat for a Parsian high priest, it hasn't come up in manga canon presumably because the time it crops up in the novels is when one of these high-ranking priests betrays Tahamenay's location to Hilmes, when in the manga Arakawa changed it to Husrab. In looking at that scene in the novels again I did see Tanaka gave us a brief description of what that priest was wearing; robes of 'gaudy gold and purple'.

Anyway, I think your proposed timeline for Farangis meeting Ranna in your AU would work! Perhaps the jinn told her to travel that way?

So, I just know all of Tumblr was wondering, "hey, you remember that really weird ZoLaw fan with the annoyingly overly stylized post? I wonder if she's seen this and if she has any theories or thoughts, an observation or two?"

Well, allow me to set your wandering mind at ease, fictional Tumblr fan. The answer is: No. No, I really don't.

I have like three hundred.

[I also spent time just trying to track down as many translations as possible. Is Tera A Criminal's Daughter or The Daughter Of Thieving Bandits! These are CLEARLY separate things and can ENTIRELY change how her utter nonpresence in Zoro's life shaped him! Though I can take comfort in knowing that, regardless of what kind of crimes her father was committing they were more important than anything his daughter ever did in her entire life.]

And, hey, as might as well jump right into that whole mess.

1. Wait, Zoro's mom is dead? Thank goodness, I was worried Oda forgot one!

I'll go first, I don't mind saying when I was wrong. True, in the past I may have suggested that the vast majority of female characters in One Piece come off as ever so slightly, "leaning into sexist tropes with unadulterated joy; it's the misogynistic tropes equivalent of a child running naked through a grocery store. It's right there, everyone sees it, yet people shut up and continue shopping in part because, well, these days you just expect most people to cover that junk! What would you even say? And if you DO speak up and call out the inappropriate, be prepared for blank stares and tantrums; but THEY don't mind! THEY don't think it's wrong! You're just being mean!"

More or less a direct quote.

However, I see now that I rushed to judgement and the reality of the situation is far more nuanced. With that in mind, I was just wondering if someone could help answer some of the questions I have.

Like: Why does Oda believe that it's illegal for (maternal) female characters to survive other character's backstories?

More importantly, why hasn't someone just reached out to explain the misconception!? It can't be that difficult. If nothing else, just have a lawyer or judge or other expert in censorship on hand. Or is the one of those cases where back in highschool his friends made something up and then kept pretending it was real to see if he'd believe you and not only did he fall for it, it took over 20 years before he learned that, what, no that's not illegal. That would be crazy if it were an actual law. Cause you know, after the first 10 years I think yeah you have to just lean into it. Pretend it's a creative decision on your part and definitely not because you were terrified of being sentenced to a slow and humiliating public death.

Just to be clear that's definitely what's up, right? I mean, I'm struggling to think of another reason....able excuse why a story that I really enjoy keeps playing the same old sexist tropes cards again and again to the point of absurdity. It would just help if I had a valid excus- explanation. I almost mistyped the word explanation.

So I imagine it went like.

"This one really deserved it though! I heard his main character has a mother in her late forties!"

"That does seem old to have your first child."

"Damn, that's cold to be there for all the protagonist core moments and not die and help him develop and grow a character? They must have a very antagonistic relationship. Is she actually the villain."

"Not that we know, and when they asked about this being a possible plot twist since - obviously if she's evil no laws are being broken."

"Well, of course, that's the whole reason Statue 2-dash-57 exists; if creators can show they have consistently been building up to a surprise twist then the female character in question can continue to live so long as she continues to be unrepentant and unlikable until the resolution of her arch by the protagonist."

"That's the thing! Under oath not only did man present no evidence to support her identity as a secret villain, he went on the record stating he wanted to depict their relationship as one of a normal modern 20 year old and his mother."

"That can't be true! What publishing company would even print that!?"

"It gets worse. I told you he was a middle child? Well, according to those who've read the actual manga, his younger sister was really sick as a child."

"Oh, well, at least-"

"It was just a fish allergy. She's perfectly fine."

Green Arrow Dawn of DC

First issue starts of as generic but I'm kinda intrested

But I can't help to laugh cause everytime this guy get lost on a island no matter what lmao.

I think Green Arrow needs a better Rogue's Gallery because usually he end up with Batman's C-listers villians.

Not really a fan of Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) but there were some cool runs he was in. I think the three times I was ever intrested in him were JLU, Young Justice & Injustice.

I couldn't really care for the main character but side cast I love.

Roy harper ( Red Arrow/Arsenal/Speedy)

But I'm happy for Roy gotten to have his daughter back again. It was amazing journey to see him fight his addiction. Lian Harper is a somewhat new so I need a few more years. Cool to see her work with Catwoman.

Black Canary

I still wonder is it New52/ Rebirth Dinah Drake Lance bc she got it by marriage to Kurt Lance never understood why they made it so confusing. Maybe they went back to Dinah Laruel Lance since the Infinite Frontier/Dark Crisis aka soft reboot happened and that's everyone favorite version she was the one who is the second version of Canary as a metahuman. I'll go with "Laurel" Lance since she the version that knows Roy has a kid. I just hope we explore her side with the JSA & other bonds. Not to be too tied up in Green Arrow lore.

Idk about this knew outfit something feels missing to it.

Connor Hawke

He's okay maybe need to reread his comic runs. Similar to Damian Wayne ( Conner was made first though I'd say Damian is a better character) but difference is, Green Arrow knew about him but was never around aka he was a shitty dad but, I kinda let it go since they reconnected.

Arrowette (Suzanne "Cissie" King-Jones)

She a legacy character her mother Bonnie King was the first Arrowette way way back in old comics "Miss Arrow" a Green arrow fangirl. She never was apart of the Arrow Family. Cissie was just apart of Young Justice & would on/off quit being a hero writers tended to leave her behind. She's pretty intresting hope to see more of her in green arrow. Hopefully she'll be more used in the animated series Young Justice next season. I think this would offically be her first time meeting him in comics.

Speedy (Mia Dearden)

I know bit of a cliche but, Mia is a fun character even if her past is sad. She had a bad childhood and somewhere down the line got Mia her trafficked into a prostitution ring. Mia tested positive for HIV, but still wanted to keep fighting and never gving up the good fight. Hope to see her more they left her behind in the years of comics. Don't know if they still have her with HIV in this countunity. New52 daughter of a crimelord but still she's a good person.

Red Arrow (Emiko Queen)

Another Diamine Wayne but more willing wants to be good. Green Arrow half-sister. I'll be honest I don't care for her. She not all the intresting compared to other characters. I'd say the one time I care for her was in Teen Titans comic runs. Her relationship with Wallace West (Kid Flash) is cute tho.

John Diggle

A character from the arrow show he was pretty cool in there so they added him in the comics.

Red Canary (Sienna)

Not much is known about her but she is a college student a fan of Black canary & took up the Canary mantle when a report said she had died. I have alot riding on her since I like Black Canary to. I also love her design.

the rest in the group picture are anti heroes or villians so there's that.

A character I hope to see: Artemis Crock,I know she's mostly a villian back in somewhat old comics. They added her in New52 ( looks like she was going to switch sides to anit/hero) but it was trash. due to the series Young Justice & Stargirl. I love her character hoping to see her more in the comics with Green Arrow or JSA comics.

requested by anon: Could you do one where Cordelia and Misty act parental towards Madison? I've been seeing some recent fics on that and I was wondering your take on it.

pairing: cordelia goode x misty day x daughter!madison montgomery

word count: 3800

When Cordelia steps into the bar, she smells an unwanted stench of alcohol. She almost coughs from it, but she doesn't. The place is filled with a bunch of twenty year olds, and that would be embarrassing.

She’s not a bar type of person, nor does she enjoy drinking alcohol. Not after her mother coming home drunk every night.

Misty stands beside her, and when she hears loud music playing and flashing lights on the dance floor, she can tell that the swamp witch wants to show off her moves.

Misty's never been to a bar, and doesn't quite understand that they wouldn't enjoy her twirling around the dance floor. They have a mission anyways. And Cordelia wants to get out here as soon as possible. She's tired, and this isn't her type of setting.

"You think she's here?"

"Ya really questioning that?" Misty asks, as if Cordelia just asked if dogs could fly.

They were looking for Madison. And despite the young witch being in her twenties now, the academy still had a curfew to keep her girls safe.

She decided that Misty should accompany her, because although being the supreme and all, there was only so much she could do to drag Madison out of a bar. However, Misty had beat her silly once before, and just a single threat would have Madison back in bed within seconds.

There was no hitting, or kicking, or punching that was going to go on though. Cordelia was going to make sure of that. She just needed Misty to frighten her, if it even got to the level.

Madison Montgomery could be cruel, but drunk Madison was brutal.

There were many tiny blonde girls who covered the room, and Cordelia assumed that it would be morning by the time they found her.

By now, Madison was probably many drinks in and Cordelia wasn't looking forward facing her.

"How will we ever find her?" Cordelia turns to Misty, and the swamp witch is squinting to try and find the girl in the crowd.

"Dig through the people I guess."

Cordelia doesn't like that idea because first of all, she doesn't want to rub against sweaty drunk young adults. And, she will either loose Misty, or one of them will get trampled. She figures, it would probably be herself that gets trampled, with her luck.

"Hold my hand, and don't let go" Cordelia says, and Misty tightly holds on to her.

The crowd is tight, and they try and figure out why people actually enjoy this. They can hardly move, and they begin to get frustrated whenever someone bumps into them.

Through, by the time they make it to the other side of the room, where there were less people, they still had no sign of Madison.

Misty rests her back against the wall in defeat, and Cordelia decides not to. The wall looks greasy and dirty, and she doesn't know what had been on it.

Cordelia's body is feeling sticky in the humidity, and she just wants to shower. But she can't. Not until she finds Madison.

"I swear, when I find Madison, that girl is going to get a scolding of a lifetime."

Misty is about to answer, but a young brunette girl who was walking by interferes with their conversation. She's clearly intoxicated, but not as much as most of the people here. "Are you guys talking about Madison Montgomery? As in the movie star?"

Cordelia sighs, because she doesn't want to deal with any of Madison's 'fans' right now. But she also figures that maybe this girl could help them find her.

"Ya. Why?" Misty asks, and she's moves closer to Cordelia, because she doesn't like how in their face this girl is.

"Well, I just saw her in the bathroom. She's probably still in there right now."

The stranger points down the hall, and if she didn't, Cordelia thinks that they both would've never found it in this place.

They both say their thanks, and then Misty is being pulled along by Cordelia.

When they get into the bathroom, Misty takes a few deep breath. Cordelia walks very fast, but when she's angry, she could win an olympic race.

There Madison is, standing in front of the mirror to reapply her lipstick. She doesn't notice the pair until she feels someone staring at her.

Then she looks, and she wishes she hadn't. Misty doesn't look too angry, just annoyed. Cordelia on the other hand, was practically burning Madison's soul with that face.

The bathroom is empty, so, she locks it with her powers. One, so Madison can’t run away, and two, so nobody can get it.

"Madison Montgomery" Cordelia says, sternly. She really doesn't know what else to say.

Madison decides to play it cool, so she teases, "Cordelia Goode." And by the way her words slur, the supreme can tell that she's intoxicated. Very.

"I'm so disappointed in you. We're going home. Now." She tries to walk out the door, hoping Madison would follow. But she doesn't. And they both knew she wouldn't.

Misty's afraid herself, and she's not even the one in trouble.

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm a fucking adult, and will stay if I want.”

"Madison, do not make me ask you again."

The swamp witch hopes that she doesn't have to ask again. If Cordelia's angry, then it affects everyone.

"Or what? You're not my mother, you can't tell me what to do!"

"Oh really? I'm sure as hell more of a mother to you than your own. Where is she now, huh?"

Cordelia wishes she hadn’t said that, because their mothers are almost the exact same, and if someone were to say that to her, she would probably sob for days. It wasn't right, and she immediately feels guilty.

"Fuck you! Really. Just get out of my life. I'm so sick of you thinking you can control me, control all of us." And by ‘all of us’ she means all of the witches.

Cordelia’s not controlling at all, she just cares. There’s a difference, but Madison only understands that deep down.

"Madison, just come with us and we can talk about this later" Misty says. She figures that her own input would help.

It doesn't.

"Of course you had to bring your fucking girlfriend too. You can't be a real woman and face me yourself? See, you've always been weak."

"For fuck sakes, Madison! That's enough. You're going home and that's the end of it."

Madison stilled, and for the first time tonight, she look genuinely frighten by Cordelia's tone of voice. Despite that, she still doesn't want to give in. She doesn't know if it's the alcohol or not, but she begins to cry. She doesn't understand exactly what over, but it happens either way.

"You ruin everything, don't you?" Madison sobs, and Cordelia feels a pang of sadness wash over her. Madison just offended her, yet she feels very distressed that she's crying. "You wouldn't even care if I didn't come home tonight! Neither of you would!”

"That's not true, Madison. We wouldn't have came if we didn't care." Cordelia's voice is, now, ever so soft. She walked towards Madison and puts her hand on her forearm. Her body's an alarmingly hot temperature, and she can see bruises on the young blondes neck.

Madison crumbles, and her body falls onto Cordelia. She's not heavy, and she notices, she's much lighter than she normally is. Cordelia gentle throws her arms around the girl, and kisses the top of her head.

She doesn't mind that she's just been screamed at by a young adult. That's just how Madison is. It's how Madison supposedly protects herself.

"Let's just go home, okay?" Is what Cordelia whispers, and Madison doesn't say a thing or two after. She leaves it at that and lets herself be dragged out of there.

One arm is held by Misty, and the other by Cordelia. The girl can't walk right. She’s stumbling over her own two feet, and can't figure out her left from right. The loud music hits her again, and she think she might collapse.

They eventually get out of there, and Madison is placed in the backseat. She lays down, and Cordelia decides to not argue about it. Instead, she watches the girl in her rear view mirror the entire time. Madison eyes start to droop, but never once shut. She's too tense to fall asleep.

When they get back to the academy, Madison is carried up to the room that Cordelia and Misty both share.

The young blonde doesn't notice the different surroundings, and she doesn't care either. She simply collapses into the bed once she's placed on it.

Misty runs down the hall to collect some pajamas from Madison's room. Everyone was already asleep, so she was sure to be extra quiet.

When she got back, Cordelia's sitting by a tired Madison, and running her fingertips through the girls hair. She can see that there is black streaks running down Madison’s face from mascara. She looks terrified of everyone's next movement, too. As if the world is going to fall apart.

"Madison, sweetie, how about you change into your pajamas." Cordelia whispers it, because it seems that Madison's head is pounding. The girl groans, and shakes her head. She moves closer to the older woman's body warmth, because she's shivering from her small, tight dress.

"Um, do you need some help?" She supposes that Madison would never let her see what's underneath her dress, even being innocently, she has too many scars beneath it. However, Madison nods, and gives Cordelia her consent.

Misty decides to change her own clothes in the bathroom, to give Madison some privacy.

While Cordelia helps the girl out of her dress, she tries not to look at Madison's body to be respectful, but she can't help but catch a glimpse of all her bruises and scars from her first and second life.

When she's finally in her pajamas, she notices how loosely they hang off her frame. Only a week ago, she saw Madison wearing these, and they were tighter on her. She made a mental note to check in on Madison once the alcohol wears off.

Misty comes out of the bathroom in her own pajamas, and a wipe in her hand. She sits behind the pair, and wipes away the black mascara streaks on Madison's pale face. The girls face scrunches because it's cold, but she doesn't move away.

"I brought ya some Advil to take too, for the headache." Misty doesn't have very much drinking experiences, but she knows a thing or two from the other girls in the house. Not all are as heavy drinkers as Madison, but some do go out often.

Madison takes it from her hand, and this is the only time, Misty thinks, that she hasn't moved away and made a snarky comment about her being unclean. Misty was a surprisingly clean person for living out in a swamp, but the thought still makes Madison grimace.

Minutes later and Madison is laying between the women in their bed. She doesn't understand how this has happened, but she also doesn't mind it. She likes how Misty's arm is protectively wrapped around her waist, and how her head is rested against Cordelia’s chest. She would never admit it. Not even to herself. But for once, she feels okay. Just okay.

"Even if you hate hearing it, we love you Madison" Cordelia murmurs, but her voice still bounces off the walls of the silent room. Madison's sleepy and wasted, but she still hears what Cordelia says.

She doesn't hate it, she just doesn't show that she likes it.

"Goodnight, darlin. Get some rest, we'll talk tomorrow" Misty adds in. Then the three fall asleep.

And it seems that, that was the first night since Madison's return from hell, that she doesn't have any nightmares.

The next morning, the couple wakes up at almost the exact same time. Madison's still sleeping, but she looks comfortable. She looks at peace for once in her life.

Cordelia checks the clock on the wall, without stirring the young witch awake. It was eight, and they didn't have any classes planned today.

Cordelia sighed, and looked down at the sleeping girl. "I hope she doesn’t freak out when she wakes up."

"I wouldn't doubt if she does, darlin."

"Well, I won't let her. She's clearly hurting. She needs help, someone to care for her. It seemed like she was getting better, but now I can see her going down that terrible path again."

Cordelia knew Madison better than anyone. She was there for her when she first came to the academy, a scared girl who was lost in drugs and alcohol. Cordelia was the one to see her at her worst, and help her get sober.

After that, a half an hour passes, and Madison begins to stretch out her limbs. She rubs her eyes, and can feel herself being watched. She doesn't remember last night entirely, but when she opens her eyes, the foggy memories slowly start to flow in.

"Are you both going to just stare at me all day or?" Is Madison's snarky comment. She doesn't move after that. She's tense, and feels as if everything would just break if she did.

"Well good morning to you too. How do you feel?" Cordelia asks, and hopes that the girl will begin to feel at ease if they chatter.

She doesn't, though.

Madison decides that she shouldn't be in here, and can't figure out why she even is in the first place.

"I'm going to go shower. Thanks though." Madison seems to say her words sarcastically once again, and it was like last night didn't happen. But, the couple could hear the anguish hidden behind her voice.

"No Madi, don't ya go just yet" Misty says, and is the one to gently push her back down onto the mattress. Madison doesn't want to go, but Madison Montgomery the movie star is telling her she should. Is telling her to just go cry it out in the shower.

But now she really can't move, because the two woman who she spilled her guts to cares too much about people, about their girls.

"Are you kidding me? So now you two are pretty much trapping me in here? Can't you just forget about last night? It was a fucking mistake, okay? I just wanted to have some fun." Madison decides to continue with her attitude, even though it hurts after she'd let them see her in such a vulnerable state just last night.

"We aren't trapping you in here, you can leave if you want but we suggest you stay, honey." Cordelia takes a deep breath and continues, "We're not entirely angry. But that doesn't mean we can forget it. We want to help, you need it Madison, and that's perfectly okay. But we do need to talk about it."

Madison sat up, and crossed her arms to her chest. She was good at putting up that tough wall when she needed, but Cordelia was good at breaking it.

"We don't need to talk about shit. I don't need help. I'm fucking fine. I don't even know what you're talking about."

Cordelia gave Misty that look, knowing the swamp witch had already called it. Madison watched her. She didn't like them sharing a look that she couldn't entirely understand. It made her feel insecure. She decided, for once, to not say anything, and just let it go.

"It seemed like ya really need someone, Madi. We're here for ya, and we can't just sit here and do nothing when we know ya hurting."

Madison didn't say anything else, and she shifted her gaze to her lap. The couple knew that were getting to her. One more thing and they would have her like water in their hands.

"You and I both know, Madison, that you use alcohol to take away the pain. You've been doing good, great, but lately it seems like you're slowly falling back into your old habits."

"Old habits? Jesus. You act like i'm going around killing people again." Madison looked up at Cordelia, and the supreme could see real anger in her eyes. "You wouldn't understand. Neither of you would. So just fucking forget it, okay?"

"Then help us understand, Madi" Misty chimed in. It seemed that Madison was underestimating both of their knowledges. They weren't that different either. Misty spent years in hell, Cordelia didn't have a great mother. No matter where Madison took this, at least one of them would understand.

"Fine. I-" Madison took a deep breath. This was hard. It felt nearly impossible to say it, to even figure out what she wanted to say. It was still a start though. Younger Madison would've never even done this.

Madison fought the urge to get up and run out that door. She truly needed help, and the help was finally here.

"I know it's hard, Madison. You've been through a lot. Take your time, we aren't going anywhere, sweetheart" Cordelia said, and placed a gentle hand on Madison's knee for comfort.

No one had ever been gentle with Madison. She could've cried. She was going to cry. But she didn't. That would be embarrassing, she thinks.

"I just...fuck, I have no one. Everyone hates me, and they should. They have every right to. But everything is just so hard, okay? I feel so numb, but everything hurts at the same time. Nothing can even ease that pain anymore, not even the alcohol as hard as i've been trying for it to."

Misty placed a hand on Madison's back so she knew that she was there for her. She could see the tears building up in her green eyes. Cordelia knew, Everything felt numb to Misty too. The aftermath of spending years in hell was something only a person who experienced it would understand.

"I don't feel real anymore. Nothing feels fucking real. And i'm so scared because every night, it's so dark, and empty, and cold. I can't even sleep, I can't eat, sometime I feel like I can't breathe either. I just-" Madison gasped for air. She doesn't remember ever telling anyone her feelings so deeply, to the point that she couldn't breathe.

“Just breathe, honey. In and out. It’s okay.”

Madison hid her face in her hands, because her tears had spilled over. Misty had never saw the girl cry before, Cordelia has, but never Misty. This was a vulnerable moment for someone with such a hard exterior.

"Oh Madison. Why didn't you tell us sooner?"

"You think I didn't want to?" Madison asked, almost as if she were offended that Cordelia would ask that. "It's not easy when you both hate me, just like everyone else. And swampy seems so fucking happy since she's been back, she has you. You have Misty, and the academy to take care of. When did you want me to exactly come to either of you?"

They both let the nickname that she gave to Misty slide. It was the one thing about Madison that would never change. But, Misty grew to like those supposedly rude swamp names that Madison calls her. She's not ashamed of her swamp anyways.

"I'm not happy all the time, Madi. Especially since i've come back from hell, I understand what ya mean about not feeling real. About feeling numb, but feeling everything at the same time. There's been countless of nights where i'll wake up screaming, or cry myself to sleep."

It was hard to believe when Misty would never falter her smile. Would always make sure to light up the room, and everyone's mood with it. Misty never seemed upset, and Madison always seemed aggravated, yet they both felt the exact same way.

"And we don't hate you, Madison. If I hated you so much, you would've already been kicked out. Like it or not, you're our family, and we love you. Maybe not the attitudes, or the unnecessary comments, but we love Madison."

The younger girl, unexpected, bursted out into sobs. That was all she needed to hear. Really. Someone needed to tell her that she was worthy of being loved.

"It's so fucking hard to live like this."

Cordelia threw her arms around Madison's fragile body, and Misty then completed the hug on the other side. It was awkward, to be hugged by both of them at once, in their current position. But they didn't care, they didn't even notice it.

Madison wasn't a hugger, as she would tell anyone who attempted to hug her. Maybe Madison Montgomery the movie star wasn't a hugger, but Madison Montgomery herself sure was. She didn't pull away, didn't even try a snarky comment. For once, her body wasn't tense, and she felt warm.

"It's okay, honey. Shhh, we're here. Just let it out." Was what Cordelia had said, whispered, against her ear.

"We love ya, Madison. It's gonna be okay, I promise." Misty wouldn't believe those words herself when Cordelia would say them to her. But it felt right when she told Madison, it felt like maybe everything was going to be okay.

After a few minutes, her cries had died down, and breathing had steadied. Madison decided it was enough hugging, so she sat up straight, and the couple let her.

"This was the first night that I haven't had a nightmare." Madison rubs her red, and puffy eyes. Her head is beginning to pound. Both from crying, and from the alcohol last night. "I think I just needed someone."

She cringed, a lot, to say that. But she feels the need to. It was a way of her saying don't ever let me go without actually saying it.

"Our door is always open for you, you know that, right?"

Madison nods. She does know that, but that doesn't mean that her own two feet will allow her to walk to their room when she needs to.

"You have us, alright? We'll always be here for ya, if ya just need to be held, or need company. Even if ya just need someone to help ya fall asleep" Misty assured.

"Can I say something?"

"Anything."

"I always thought of you two like my mothers that I never had."

Cordelia thought she might cry. She really did shed a few tears. Misty too.

That wasn't a Madison thing to say, and they wondered if that alcohol really did wear off yet.

"Madison" Cordelia said, with a trembling lip, and quivering voice.

"Okay, if you two keep crying then I seriously take it back."

Misty and Cordelia both hug Madison in every which way they can. The older woman kisses the younger girls temple, and almost in syncs, the couple tells Madison, "I love you so much."

Hello! Hope you've been doing well. I have a question: what makes you love Lady Dimitrescu? Your fic is my favorite LD fic because of how mysterious and in character she is, its almost hard to believe you started it before the game came out. You nailed her and her daughters while still giving them your own unique twist. So I'm wondering, what attracts you to this character?

I've sat on this question in my inbox for weeks, anon. Weeks, because explaining why I love Lady Dimitrescu is the sort of thing I could sum up in a few words, or I could write a novel length dissertation on her and still go back later thinking, wait, I forgot to mention this. I think you've waited long enough for a response though, so, I'm going to just ramble for a little bit and see how it goes.

(Firstly, thank you for your kind words about my fic! Nothing gives me serotonin like hearing that after all this time it's your favourite, and sidenote, its still being written! Right now I have a couple of chapters done, but I'm waiting until I have at least 3-4 finished so I can avoid the pesky posting droughts I've had recently)

I can't talk about Lady Dimitrescu without stressing first and foremost, that everything about her is an anomaly for female characters in video games. When I first heard shouts of "9ft tall vampire gf" memes drifting on the wind in late January 2021 I had just finished work, and I was expecting to open my internet browser to see your run-of-the-mill video game woman, with the addition of press-on fangs and perhaps a pair of impressive shoujo legs to make up the height. She would surely be in her early twenties, thin and petite-framed, just like all Attractive Video Game Women are.

But then, she wasn't. I watched the trailer, and as she crouched through that doorway and straightened up - she wasn't any of those things. She was grimly, horrifically beautiful. Genuinely massive in stature, not just tall, but proportionately huge. Broadly framed, not thin, dressed elegantly in that ghostly ivory dress with that sweeping hat, and god, her face. Visibly in her 40s, all smile lines and crow's feet and imperfect, deathly pale skin and stained teeth. She was something as a horror fan I had been craving without knowing it — as I've already mentioned, female characters in video games are massively skewed towards young adulthood. With that in mind, I can't overstate the importance of seeing a woman over 40 with the honest and beautiful features of a woman over 40; her signs of ageing have not been smoothed out and wiped away like something to hide, nor has she been boxed into the old horror trope of mature and powerful women as hags. She simply exists — attractive and middle aged— in a sea of media that quietly implies through a lack of representation of older women that we hit some kind of beauty expiry date once we hit 35.

And as time went on, and we learned more about her beyond first impressions, I became more and more enamoured with her — as a lesbian, her coding brings me a wild amount of validation. Once you peel back the layers of blood and death and look at the way Lady Dimitrescu is living her life, it's hard for me as a woman and as a lesbian to not feel empowered by seeing a female character who has made the conscious choice to live her life centred on women. She's a single mother of three daughters, created and adopted with the help of another woman. Exclusively women are allowed to work in her living space in the castle, and even the name of the minor enemies in Castle Dimitrescu (Moroaicǎ) is the feminine form, suggesting to her, only women are worthy to receive the cadou — to become creatures of her own creation. The fact that she preys specifically upon women also satisfies a dark desire for scenarios involving sexual vulnerability for me and a lot of sapphic women — and she allows the exploration of those desires in a way that feels safe, taking place in this distant, imaginary environment in which men play no part, and therefore cannot exploit us. In our way, we've taken her status as an example of the Predatory Lesbian Vampire trope and reclaimed it for our own.

She's also an independent and successful businesswoman who is completely unapologetic about her immense stature in a world where women are pressured to take up as little space with our bodies as possible. I may not be a 9ft 6 vampire lady, but any body type represented that goes against the norm for women in games — especially when the character with that body is presented as beautiful and portrayed carrying an aura of power and confidence — is incredibly freeing and comforting for those of us with body image issues. I've met many women in the fanbase, myself included, who feel more confident about the parts of our bodies we've been made to feel undesirable for having, simply because Lady D has those features and is celebrated for them.

Another layer to my love for her is House Dimitrescu's female-centred horror. While the primary reason for all of it is to present female empowerment as a source of fear and conflict to Ethan, that in of itself becomes empowering. We see women for once with their hands on the fear factor dial in horror, historically a very male-dominated genre where men are often both the heroes and villains, and women (not always, but often enough) are the victims - the swooning damsels in distress.

Something else I'd like to mention — the sapphic fandom contribution. The way we took her and ran, creating our own stories and characterisations for her and her daughters months before the game released brought about the kind of creative, original content I haven't seen in any fandom before. It was genuinely magical to experience that level of passion around a character we knew very little about, but who spoke to us so powerfully that we simply had to make her our own. It went far beyond finding her attractive.

I could go on, but the above points and more now, a year and a half later, have culminated in her being my favourite character of all time.

Films and Books That Made 2022 Worth Living

Happy New Year's Eve! Last year, I did a Twitter thread about films, books, and TV shows that I loved in 2021. While I'm still very much active on Twitter these days, the new features are annoying me (especially that cursed "views"), so I'm not tweeting as much as I used to.

As such, I decided to post my favorite films and books on Tumblr instead. I realized I hadn't watched a lot of TV shows this year (or I hadn't watched enough shows that I like to be considered a "favorite"), so this year, I'm only posting films and books.

These films and books were not necessarily released in 2022, but 2022 is the first time I've ever watched or read them. Also, it's worth noting that there are so many 2022 films I haven't watched yet, including Women Talking, The Eternal Daughter, and more. It's either I cannot find a copy online or it didn't show in my local theatres. Maybe I can watch them next year and include them in the list then!

Now that's out of the way, let's get started! Here are 10 films and books that I loved in 2022:

FILMS

Hello, Dolly! (1969) — I've loved the stage musical for so long, especially the revival with Bette Midler, but I haven't watched the movie version of it. This film is one of the best musical adaptations I've ever seen, and it's so brilliant from start to finish. Barbra Streisand is a star, and I fell in love with all the characters, dances, and songs. It's been months since I've seen this, but I still memorize the entire "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" and "It Only Takes A Moment" sequences.

West Side Story (2021) — Another musical film made it to my top 10 list. I loved the first movie adaptation, but it had glaring issues that Steven Spielberg corrected for the most part. Everything about this movie is simply wonderful, and I rewatched this movie more than I care to admit. I love Rachel Zegler, Mike Faist, and Ariana DeBose, but it's a shame the leading man is a disgusting pig, though.

Mary and Max (2009) — I was expecting a fun, carefree animated film prior to watching this, but it broke my heart in the process. The film spoke so much about loneliness, mental health, and friendship through such tender and careful lenses. Philip Seymour Hoffman also gave a terrific performance voicing Max.

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) — I'm not a big fan of science fiction fantasy movies, but this one got me. Maybe because it's Michelle Yeoh's stunning performance, or the generational trauma theme. I love how this film captured a mother-and-daughter relationship uniquely and creatively. I still couldn't get through the ending without getting tears in my eyes.

Tár (2022) — I thought Women Talking would be my favorite film of the year, but I haven't watched that yet, so for now, it's this one. I love films that feature an anti-hero because it makes it easier to feel grounded in reality. It is captivating from end to finish, and I can't help but be immersed in Lydia's obsession with greatness. Cate Blanchett is a goddess.

Pride (2014) — One of the best feel-good movies I've ever seen. There are movies based on real events that get you questioning whether they're just bullshitting you, and while I did question this movie as well, it still succeeded in telling its message: the importance of unity. What more can I ask for? Also, this is going to be adapted into a musical soon, and I cannot wait!

Dancer in the Dark (2000) — This is another musical movie on this list, but it couldn't be different than the previous two. As expected from Lars von Trier, this movie is dark and twisted. The final scene took me so much by surprise that I sat there in my seat with my mouth hanging open as the credits rolled. This may seem like a "manipulative" film, but the character of Selma, superbly portrayed by Björk, saved the film for me.

Drive My Car (2021) — The first movie I've seen of the year. I wanted to start 2022 with a good one, and this one didn't fail. It's intimate and profound in a very subdued way. Although this was almost three hours long, it honestly never felt draggy. I hung on to every scene as if my life depended on it. Regret is one way to express grief, and this movie depicted it perfectly.

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) — Another surprise of the year. I didn't expect to like this movie that much, but here we are. I should've known not to doubt Martin McDonagh, especially as a huge In Bruges fan. This film is so well-written with wonderful characters - even the animals are great! Colin Farell's Pádraic and Jenny is my favorite duo of the year.

C'mon C'mon (2021) — As for my second favorite duo of the year, it's Joaquin Phoenix and Woody Norman as uncle and nephew in this touching movie. This film made me laugh and cry and genuinely captured the complexity of family relationships. This is a very heartwarming, compelling, and human film, and I love everything about it.

BOOKS

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee — I read this early this year, but I knew then that nothing could ever top it. It's a beautifully-written novel featuring a large set of characters with different personalities, stories, and backgrounds. This novel is also a great learning experience on Korean-Japanese culture, politics, and history. It's a completely immersive story, and it felt like I was transported back to that time. I also highly recommend the Apple TV+ adaptation of this!

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman — I've only read two novels from Backman, and yet, I can confidently say that he's my current favorite author. While some people may find his writing too quirky and over-the-top, I find the sweetness and wit just the right amount. It's the perfect read when you feel dejected and overwhelmed by the negativity of this world. The simple human interactions in this novel absolutely make you feel hopeful and loved.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara — Okay, now this one... I was so scared to read this because I heard countless reviews that say this is a harrowing read. And they were right. This is a terrifying book that almost gave me a panic attack. Many people have depicted this book as "misery porn," and while the thought did cross my mind, I don't think it glamorizes misery. Instead, it sheds light on the long-term effects of trauma, showing how people handle trauma and how, sometimes, there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney — This feels timely. In this book, the main protagonist walks the streets of New York on the last day of 1984 while also reminiscing about days gone by. Lillian Boxfish is an astounding protagonist; she's witty and relatable, and I want to be like her someday (hopefully, minus the bad parts). It's mostly told in flashbacks, so we also got a glimpse of New York in the 20s and 50s, which is pretty interesting to me!

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett — The story had a very Cinderella-like spin, complete with a dead father, an evil stepmother, and two (though they are neither mean nor ugly) stepsisters. This novel especially enraptured me through its supporting character Maeve. I didn't care much about the protagonist, but his sister was the one that made me love this book so much. I see myself in her, but also the person I want to be.

The Sandman by Neil Gaiman — If I made a top 10 favorite TV show list, the Netflix adaptation of Gaiman's popular comic book series would be number one. The show is incredible, and now I'm making my way into the Sandman universe one graphic novel at a time. I just finished A Game of You a few weeks ago, so I'm pretty excited to read more. I love how Gaiman builds the Dreaming universe and shows the power of dreams and imagination.

The Woman at 1,000 Degrees by Hallgrímur Helgason — It took me so long to finish this one because it's super complex, especially since I am unfamiliar with Iceland's history, but it's still terrific. The quirkiness in the story and characters reminds me of Backman novels, but this one is much darker and heavier and written in a very ironic tone. I can't wait to read this again!

Tuesday Nights in 1980 by Molly Prentiss — If I'm given the choice to write a book, I just hope it's going to be something like this one. Some may call this novel slow and pretentious, but the writing is so good that I forget I'm actually reading it. The novel is able to bring me to New York and meet all these characters. It's very far from perfect, but it's one that I couldn't stop reading.

Every Note Played by Lisa Genova — I'm used to reading sad stuff, but I didn't expect this one to completely break my heart. The main character of this book follows a concert pianist who suffers from ALS. Based on that, I think you know how heavy this is going to be. One thing that struck a chord with me in this novel is how it's okay not to tie loose ends with other people, and some things are better left unsaid.

Book Lovers by Emily Henry — It's ironic that the title had "book" on it, but it's the only one in Kindle format in the collage. Hmm, maybe I should buy a physical copy of this book. After all, Henry is my new Sophie Kinsella. I'm a huge fan of Kinsella when I was in high school, and I never thought I could feel giddy with romance novels again, but Henry was able to bring back that feeling. That's how good she is as well as this novel.

Young Man: “Fufufu… Hahaha… it feels wonderful…”

She moves closer to him.

Christine: “Please stop doing this to yourself…We need to treat your arm.”

The young man turns his gaze to her.

Christine: (There is sadness in those violet eyes. Even though he was just laughing a minute ago…)

Young Man: … …

He grabs her wrist and stabs her arm.

Christine: “AAAH!”

Christine wakes up scared. She looks and touches her arm while breathing heavily. It was the same dream she's been having these past two weeks, with the same young man. She can’t tell his physical appearance clearly because of the darkness of the room. Only his violet eyes were always clear when he looked at her. She doesn't understand why these nightmares started to happen at the beginning of the summer.

She wished she could sleep in longer since she was off from work but these bad dreams were waking her up every day really early in the morning, and it was hard for her to go back to sleep. Christine looks at the time. She gets out of bed. It was 6:30 in the morning. Since she can't sleep, she goes to the bathroom to brush her teeth and takes a shower.

*TimeSkip*

She comes downstairs and sees her Mother and Father in the kitchen.

Christine: “Good Morning.”

She said smiling and kissing both her parents on the cheek.

Mother: “Good morning, Christine. Your coffee and breakfast are already on the table, go eat before it gets cold.”

Christine: “Thank you, Mom. You're the best.”

As a grown 20-year-old woman who's still living with her parents, she never felt ashamed of that. She loves her parents and her brother who is 18 years old. He also lives with them. She is very close to her family. She has always told herself that she will move out of her parent's house on the day she will get married one day. She doesn’t see that happening anytime soon since her jerk ex-boyfriend lied, cheated, and left her for another woman, leaving her heartbroken. Because of that relationship, she has bad trust issues. She feels that every man will treat her the way Mark did. So she decided not to date anyone for the time being. Lots of men have asked her out, but she has declined all of them. She doesn’t want a new relationship at the moment. All she wants is to focus on working, saving money, and spending time with her family and friends. That’s all she needs now and nothing else. Having a relationship is pointless, it will bring you pain and disappointments.

She sits down to eat her breakfast.

Father: “Christine, I would like to talk to you about something.”

Christine: “Yes, Dad?”

Father: “Darling, I found a good opportunity for you. A Month ago at work, I met this businessman. He’s a wealthy man. One of my coworkers told him, I have a hard-working daughter. He is hiring a young woman to help out in both mansions where his sons live. You will be working four days in one mansion and one day in the other.”

Christine: “Huh? So he’s looking for a housekeeper for his son's mansions? I’ll pass! I have nothing against that job, but… I love working with the children at the Elementary School. Once my two weeks vacation is over, I’m gonna work at the summer program.”

Father: “Darling… The payment will be double the money that you get paid from the school, plus the job is in Japan and you will be staying there for three months. Your flight will be paid and you will have your own bedroom and bathroom. You will also have weekends off to do as you please.”

Christine: (Shocked! This seems too good to be true. Plus going to Japan has always been a dream of mine...)

Father: “Going to Japan with a new job and meeting new people will do you good, and you’ll be able to make good money in the process. I’m not gonna obligate you to take the job but I will advise you to don't let this opportunity pass.”

Christine: “Dad, what's the name of this businessman? And which of your coworkers told him about me?”

Father: “It was Tony, and I'm glad he did, you need this opportunity. I did have a conversation with this businessman. His name is Karlheinz, and I made sure that you will be in good hands. Christine, after your breakup with Mark, it broke my heart to see you suffer like you did. I don’t ever want to see you go through that again.”

Christine: “I'm sorry Dad, that you had to see me like that. I am better now and I have moved on with my life.”

Father: “You and I both know very well that you haven't healed from the breakup. Christine, you are my sunshine and it saddens me to see a dark cloud surrounding you.”

Suddenly I see my dad's eyes get watery. I got emotional but I pretended I was fine, and held back the tears. I faked a smile.

Christine: “Dad I promise I'm okay now and happy. All thanks to you and Mom. I love you both so much.”

Christine truly meant her words. If it wasn't for her parent's support she doesn't know what would have become of her.

“And… You are right, this is a good opportunity and I always wanted to visit Japan. I’ll take the job.”

Father: “You made the right decision Christine. I am happy you are taking this job. All you have to do is read and fill out this form and you will be set. You leave next Friday.”

Christine: (I am a little excited about this. Though I'm nervous about traveling alone, plus I won't see my family and close friends for three months! But her Dad is right, I needs this. Being out of this hometown and doing something new will be a new experience for me…)

One Week Later. Thursday Night.

- Nightmare -

She ran as fast as she could. This time it wasn't in a room but instead in a dark hallway. She can hear footsteps and laughter behind her.

Young Man: “Fufufu… I don't mind… playing hide and seek… Fufufu…”

Christine keeps running not looking back.

- He grabs her from behind -

Young Man: “Gotcha…”

He whispered in her ear.

“You can never escape from me… I will always find you…”

Christine: “Let go of me!”

He pushed her to the floor, pulling out a knife.

Christine: “Oww…”

Young Man: “You are the chosen Rose… You must bleed for us… The time has come… for you and me… to inflict pain on each other…”

When he said those words I looked up at him. No clear image of him, the hallway was too dark. Only violet eyes staring down at me.

- He gets on top of her, grips her neck, and stabs her heart -

Christine: “AAAAAAAAH!”

Mother: “Christine! Wake up!”

She wakes up crying.

Mother: “You’re ok, it's just a dream. Breath honey. I'm here.”

Her Mom hugs her.

Christine: “Mom, It felt so real! A guy attacked and stabbed me. I've been dreaming about this same guy for two weeks now!”

She continues to cry.

Mother: “It was just a nightmare, Christine. You are all right. Ever since your breakup with Mark, you have been fearing men and thinking they are all gonna hurt you.”

She breaks the hug.

Christine: “Mom! This has nothing to do with Mark or the breakup!”

Mother: “Shh, not another word Christine. It is 3 in the morning and I came here because your screams woke me up. I thought something bad happened to you for real. Now try going back to sleep. You have a long flight ahead of you later today. You are gonna need good energy.”

Christine: “… I'm sorry, Mom…”

Monologue

As I watched my Mom leave my room.

I can still feel the knife ripping my heart.

Making it bleed.

Violet eyes still haunted my dreams.

Is this a warning sign?

Of something bad coming my way?

My hands began to shake.

So I bindged watched the entry of Metal Family (a Russian YouTube series) and its absolutely adorable. My favorite characters are Glam and Dee because obviously I'm always gunna go for either the goofy dad type with a tragic backstory and the sarcastic little smartass.

Anyway, I've been hearing around that Dee might have a girlfriend and as much as I like the idea of him having a cool laidback goth gf, I just can't picture it. He probably doesn't like to admit it but I think Dee and his dad have similar taste in women; ie badasses who are slightly batshit crazy.

Meet Sasha, they were put together as tutors for each other, she was failing math while he was failing art.

At first glance Sasha seems like a sweet, giggly, airhead with an affinity for tacky jewelry and thrift store clothes. Which is of course what Dee assumed when he offered his usual method of helping her cheat her way through her classes.

She smiled at him and called him: a pig-headed narcissistic asshole who couldn't smell the rancid shit coming out of his own mouth.

Yeah, turns out she isn't stupid just has really bad ADHD and needed someone to help her study math because her brain finds it too boring and therefore unimportant to focus on.

Their relationship is sort of similar to Glam and Ches when they first met; Sasha being a witty yet odd character while Dee struggles to makes sense of what the hell she's saying sometimes.

Because of her ADHD Sasha tends to switch out hobbies like socks; she especially likes activities that keep her hands occupied, such as knitting or origami. Dee has no idea how she can multy task so many things at once.

She is very forward and can be quite blunt when speaking her mind, though she tries her best to remain polite.

She is a big fan of grunge music and punk rock. Nirvana and Foo Fighters being her favorite.

She is the third oldest of six, so middle child syndrome all the way!

She's a bit of an anarchist and can often be found during the weekend tagging government property or big name brand store. Somehow she never seems to get caught.

Her parents are ex-punks so they aren't really surprised or disappointed with their daughter's antics so long as she doesn't get arrested. (More on her family later)

She knitted Dee a beanie during one of their study sessions, it was black with little cat ears. Now he wears it any time its even remotely breezy outside.

Heavy was the first to meet Sasha since they go to the same school. He couldn't understand how such a sweet girl could be friends with his asshole of a brother. She simply giggled and ruffled his hair, stating how Heavy remind her of her own younger siblings.

After that meeting people suddenly stopped bullying him. It was weird but Heavy wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth so he didn't question it. He did, however, wonder why Sasha had a baseball bat in her locker when she didn't even play the sport.

When Dee first invited Sasha over to hang out he made sure that his family would be out all day, because he knew that they would all make it their personal mission to embarrass him in front of her.

That plan backfired very quickly as they returned much earlier than expected and the two teens had been in the living room watching movies and cuddling.

Victoria adored her immediately, insisting she say over for dinner all the while making cheeky remarks at Dee to "make sure to keep her happy so she won't realize that she can do better."

Glam had meant to interrogate her, as he is secretly an over protective father at heart, but he was just so damn charmed by her he didn't have the nerve to do it. Instead he ended up showing her the boys' baby pictures (much to Dee and Heavy's protest).

Her and Ches vibed so well together, it was kind of weird and fascinating to observe. They later find out that Sasha is probably the only person out their that can beat both Glam and Ches in poker.

By the end of it Dee is red in the face with embarrassment and when he escorts her to the bus stop he apologizes if it was all a bit overwhelming. Sasha simply giggled, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek assuring him that she really likes his family and can't wait to come over again.

Of course Sasha was the first to confess because Dee still had no idea about his feelings. Thought it was less a confession and more of a statement as if it was something she assumed he already knew.

He didn't, obviously.

Sasha knew that Dee liked her back but she needed for HIM to come to that conclusion himself if they had any hope of starting a relationship. So she remained patient and waited for him to catch up.

Though this did NOT stop her from teasing and flirting with him just a little 😋

She really couldn't help it, Dee was way too cute when he got all flustered and shy (much like his mother in that regards).

So they aren't OFICIALLY dating but they are together, kind of like a trial run (according to Dee at least).

ABOUT HER FAMILY:

Her parents are high school sweethearts that used to ride around town with Victoria and her old crew.

Sasha's mom is a headstrong yet laid back woman that runs the local laundry mat, popular with bikers as it specializes in cleaning leather. Her father is this big, burly, stoic man that works in construction and doesn't tend to say much. They love each other and their children very much.

Sasha has an older sister and brother as well as three younger siblings, twin boys and a little sister. Her older sister is living in England while also going to college to study political science. Her older brother is on his last year of high school and works as a mechanic at a local bike shop. Her twin brothers are in middle school, just a year below Heavy, while her little sister is just starting the first grade.

When Sasha invites Dee over to her house to study he is greeted at the door by her father who looms over him, glaring daggers. Dee may have seen his life flash before his eyes for a just moment.

Thankfully, her mother was much nicer, inviting him in as she called Sasha downstairs. Her younger siblings were very rowdy, asking him questions about who he is and why he was here. Her older brother however, joined along side his father to glare holes into his head.

He was all too thankful when Sasha finally came downstairs to get him, announcing that they would be in her room studying until dinner. Her older brother shouted after them to "keep the door open" and Sasha gave a cheery reply of two middle fingers in his direction.

Dinner was awkward, at least for Dee, but it wasn't terrible. By the end of it, when they were hanging around the bus stop, Sasha (who insisted on seeing him off as he usual does) proudly said: "I think they like you."

"Oh really?" Dee said with a nervous chuckle, he wasn't quite sure but he trusted her judgment. 🖤🖤🖤

Before hand, thank u gray face, for asking about my girl Asami 💖 I may be getting used to referring to her as a Queen actually XD

Alright

Buckle-up, this is gonna be long!

1. If professional car racing were a thing in the avatarverse, you can bet your a$$ she would be involved. Asami is one of the first people to endorse it as a sport. Helping it spread around the globe, designing race tracks and stuff. Most likely she would sponsor racers from RC, yet she’d be no stranger to racing herself (not professionally, though)

2. She tends to be unfairly unkind to herself :/ (not all the time, but the scales lean to this more often than not), too focused on others' wellbeing that she neglects her own needs and wants...saddest thing is, this headcanon rings too much like ‘canon’ to my liking 😭

3. Although she has her own speed boat, Asami grows fond of sailing. It's a new kind of unwinding for her. With three elements down (earth/ground, air/sky and water/tides) and given you can't drive anything on fire, she should be called 'rider of all the elements' xD

4. I wouldn’t count Asami’s relationship with Kuvira as neutral (yet), at least for me, it would take more than the events of ROTE for her to mellow out toward the person that killed her father.

While Asami is no grudge-holder (not a big one anyways), I'm just following the guidelines “to spite canon, especifically”

5. Asami knows Kali/Eskrima (LOK fans would know it as the Lieutenant's fighting style😱) and favors the baton and sticks. Any edged weapon is a heavy no. Mainly, she used to practice it as physical training to keep her body and muscles sharp. But because of the emphasis on the usage of weapons, she prefers not to use it in actual combat.

Legend says Korra once saw her practice on a wooden dummy (no weapons involved) and she fainted...after gawking like a blushing fool, ofc lol

Although, ever since coming to live on Air Temple Island, she has stoped doing it almost entiredly (it feels awkaward and like this kind of art doesn't belong in air nomad grounds) muscle memory is a thing of wonder. Give her some kali sticks and she'd mop the floor with anyone that challenged her to a round or two. My bet would be Bolin - if he caught wind of this, he would totally want Asami to put her money where her mouth is and show him. 😮

6. Had her mother not been murdered, both her parents would outwardly hold Asami’s s/o to stupidly high standars (Hiroshi rolls with this way of thinking better than his wife does, though), regardless of them being a bender or non-bender.

Inwardly though, they would accept anyone their daughter chose as her partner in life. Only ‘request’ being that they cherrish Asami the way she cherrishes them. She loves wholeheartedly, they would want nothing less for their daughter to get in return.

7. Asami has a birth mark, i.e. she was born with it...that counts as pre-canon, right? 😆

8. She and Korra eventually move out of Air Temple Island and live together in RC, somewhere equidistant to Future Industries Tower and Avatar Korra Park. They still like to go to the island for some downtime.

9. The very first night right after Kuvira’s defeat (weeks before Zhurrick’s wedding) Asami just couldn’t sleep. The events of the day; the destruction of a good chunk of the city, Hiroshi’s death, Kuvira’s spirit ray almost oblitarating Korra, too raw in her mind to get an eye shut. The only way she was able to get some rest is thanks to Korra, who offers to keep her company.

Unknowingly, the Avatar is also having trouble falling asleep, albeit for different reasons. After all those years away, and now sure of her budding feelings, Korra’s grown keen to Asami’s emotions, even the ones she doesn’t show as openly, and just wants to be there for her friend.

To their pleasant surprise, even in turmoil the other’s presence quickly becomes calming and reassuring to each other. That's the first time they share the same bed - they also fall asleep with Asami's arm wrap around Korra's middle and the latter clutching said arm's hand to her chest. And (you’d be surprised) Asami’s the only one that remembers that particular detail, the next day 😁

I'm embarrassed to say...my mind is empty on this one, at the moment. I mean, it's not like there's nothing regarding Asami that can be changed as far as 'canon' goes...it's just, I'm not 100% sure the stuff I could come up with to make up for it are the things that should have happened (hope that made sense, sorry!🙏)

11. Mako doesn’t think Asami can lift Korra bridal-style...

Bumi and Varrick think she doesn’t like animals - and while she’s not the greatest animal lover, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy the company of a few... *spoiler* she loves Naga

12. Speaking of Naga. There’s a brief moment in their early romantic relationship where Asami thinks Naga wants to eat her alive the closer she gets to Korra (looking at it as the pet being territorial) when in truth, Asami’s become Naga’s second favorite human being because of how happy Korra gets whenever she’s around her 🥰 The polar bear dog just wants to lick her whole face as a sign of affection.

13. It’s a three-way-tie between crossing the spirit portal with Korra hand in hand, their first kiss in the spirit world and the first time they said ‘I love you’ to each other.

14. Korra collapsing after the battle with Zaheer, and falling out of consciousness in Tonraq's arms. Her mecha-battle with Hiroshi.

Keeping Up A-fear-ance's Thoughts

I finished writing this shortly after 3 am after watching the new episode like three times because I simply had too much energy about it and I have so many thoughts because I simply live for clawthornes and also I tried to break it up with more photos this time sorry not sorry if it's a lot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

YOUNG EDA!! let me just say I am quite a fan of opening with a flashback like we've done here and the last episode

anyways we've only really seen young Eda as a wild and confident and happy little child so I appreciate seeing this side of her with the anxiety and fear she's feeling here. I love seeing what the curse stuff was like for her as a kid

Gwen: I raised a perfectly fine kid

Me: no you didn't look at her she's got anxiety

I'm guessing this is their backyard or just some woods behind their house?? wonder if the portal was placed there by another elder family member.

I feel like the fact that its actually both Lilith and Gwendolyn have spent their whole lives dedicated to trying to find a cure could probably have held some kind of weight on Eda at some point. Even though she shouldn't feel guilty or responsible for that, I still feel like it's gotta suck knowing these people have spent so much time on something you know is likely never gonna happen, all for you.

Alright I need some outside views on this because I'm hella uncomfortable right now.

So, I'm a fan of horror/thriller movies, even shitty ones. And will just randomly pick them up occasionally. I just watched "Becky" from Redbox. And I feel kind of sick.

It's racist as fuck, but not in the super obvious ways we're used to, like killing off black characters. Which makes it feel insidious to me and I'm kind of freaking out that redbox has a couple dollars saying I support this movie.

My husband and I are literally doing research to find out why the writers or directors made the choices they made and maybe we missed something, but no. We can't find anyone online who even seems to notice the racism, outside of the dogs being named Dora and Diego. (Which, on its own, isn't racist. Kids name their pets after beloved characters.)

I'm wondering if anyone else has supporting or separate views. Here's my list of stuff in the film that made me uncomfortable:

Early on is a scene in which a group of convicts in prison organize the murder of a black man. We know it's racial based on the nazi tattoos. These convicts escape prison. This plays no part in the story, other than to drive home racism, as if a giant swastika tattoo on a bald head doesn't do that.

These convicts also have the valknut tattoo, which originally isn't a racist symbol, but has been used by racists who try to claim norse paganism. Which is also problematic, in that the movie is teaching people to associate the two.

The film follows Becky, a teenage girl whose mother dies of cancer. Her dad has a new girlfriend (she is a black woman) that the daughter doesn't like. It reads like the bs trope of "you can't replace my mom" but then Becky says "mom would have hated her". And Becky draws SS in her notebook, so...

That statement being racist is further Supported by a key (bearing the valknut) that was hidden on their property, which the convicts are looking for, and the main reason for the conflict between them and Becky. The convicts seem to think the key will grant them some kind of "divine purpose" and tell the step mom that it'll "help her people too" as "all races have their purpose".

Becky is VERY attached to this key. The only reason I can guess is that it has something to do with her mom. Couple this with the statements about what the key is marked with, who wants it, what it does, and "mom would hate her"... Mom sounds like she's a part of the same "brotherhood" as the convicts.

They do not kill the step mom or her biological son. Which is why I say it wasn't racist in the same ways we are used to. They both survive, but feel a lot like a plot device, so not really much better.

Here's the thing though... I'm not sure what plot device they fill... It's made VERY clear that Becky don't give a shit about them, and they are never used against her as a way to gain her compliance or anything, like you would expect from hostage family members. They do kill her dad. And so it seems to me that they want to use their survival as a way to say "see, we aren't racist".

I'm not sure why racism was used in this movie at all actually, and that makes me hella uncomfortable. It almost feels as if they're trying to normalize it. Make the racist not look so bad? Idk. But I feel gross having witnessed it. Racism is central to the movie while simultaneously playing no part. They could have used any symbol on that key.

Eventually Becky kills all of the convicts, one by one, and her and her step mom and brother wait for the cops, then we switch to the end scene. Becky talking to the police. No idea what happens to the other two, they're not even mentioned as an afterthought, as though we should care for them as little as Becky does.

And finally, at the end, it's implied that Becky now sees the importance of this key, although we still don't know what that is. But it's obviously racist.

Almost forgot to mention that the movie was originally supposed to be released on Hitler's Birthday.

I'm rather upset that no one's seems to be talking about it in any notable media, as it feels almost like racist propaganda.

Favorite Female Anime Characters, Part 1

It's inevitable to fall in love with certain characters especially when we can relate to their feelings and what they're going through or we just admire them for their kindness, strength, beauty, etc. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing myself in those I watch and I just can't help it. I'm into anime ever since young (if I'm not mistaken I started watching when I was five) and I still recall everything like it only happened yesterday.

And for today's special post I'm gonna share with you these ladies who brought much impact to my life (in the order of when I watched them). Enjoy your read!

1. The Priestess

InuYasha: Higurashi Kagome

Kagome is one of those kind-hearted characters you'll ever encounter. Whenever she's compared with Kikyou especially about their archery skills, priestess powers and InuYasha I can feel so much her pain. I remember clearly her scene on the well with him admitting that she can't compare with Kikyou because she's not dead, but at the same time saying "my heart is my heart (kokoro wa watashi no kokoro)". It must be hard accepting you're someone's reincarnation and if that's the case, telling everyone you're still a different person. But Kagome endured and continued her journey to fight alongside InuYasha even though during that time he wants to protect Kikyou, too (two-timer hmp). In the end she was able to fulfill her task of destroying the jewel of the four souls (shikon no tama).

As a 15-year old it must be hard for her as well to fight demons in the feudal era and go back to modern day Tokyo to fulfill her duties as a daughter and a high school student but in the end still managed everything and even graduated! So you see, she's not only kind and strong but also eager to finish her studies haha!

2. The Karate Champion

Detective Conan / Case Closed: Mouri Ran

What I admire so much about Ran is her patience for Shinichi. You see, she's always wondering where and what he is doing even though he's only under her nose. And on those moments she and Shinichi are together but he has to leave because the antidote to APTX-4869 wore off, she's always left hanging. Remember when they were in the Beika Hotel? Ran cried and even covered her ears because she's tired already of his excuses. But of course we all know Shinichi is only doing that to protect her. I'm just curious though on how and when she'll be able to fully discover his secret hehe (a lot of times Ran made suspicions but our boy is just clever).

Ran is faithful and trusts Shinichi so much. Normally when we don't hear from someone for a long time we just give up on them and forget them. But in her case the love just grows stronger. We can learn from her how to not give up on the one you really love.

Ran is also a supportive friend, we can see that clearly to Sonoko and Kazuha. And she's positive about her parents, doing her best to set them up believing that someday they'll be together. Lastly, Ran is a karate champion but she's humble. She knows that being strong is to protect and help people and she has saved Conan, Haibara and the Detective Boys a lot of times. She's everything!

3. The Flame-Haired Fiery-Eyed Hunter

Shakugan no Shana: Shana

I can't say much about Shana but the reason I included her on the list was because I remember back in high school I was obsessing over her because of her red eyes and hair (favorite color hahaha)! And she is a tsundere so it felt like I was watching myself! She's also a sword wielder (I have a thing on that and if given the chance I want to learn) and it also hypes me every time she turns from being a cute melon bread eater to a serious flame haze! Who wouldn't fall in love with these burning eyes and hair?!

4. The Celestial Mage

Fairy Tail: Lucy Heartfilia

I know a lot of fans call her useless and it really makes me sad because many don't understand that Lucy is a work-in-progress. Born from a rich family wanting the attention of her father after her mother died, meeting Natsu and being introduced to her dream guild, seeing her friends being tortured by a dark guild because her father wants her back, and bravely forgoing her luxurious life and choosing the path of being a wizard, she has been through a lot. Lucy may not come off strong like Erza and Mira Jane but we should realize that strength is not only measured in combat. Lucy is actually smart and loves to read books and don't that make someone interesting?

Lucy may not be the strongest but she's getting better and I'm convinced it's because Natsu supports and believes in her so much. Also she values everyone in the guild, even her celestial spirits, to the point that she won't give up even if beaten to death (remember what Minerva did on Grand Magic Games). Fans call her weak because she wasn't able to fight back but on the other side, she risked her life for her friends and if it's not courage for you then I don't know what is.

5. The Gangster Teacher

Gokusen: Yamaguchi Kumiko / Yankumi

Tentenenen! Tenten! Hahaha!

One of those few that I've read the manga, watched the anime and the live action because I got hyped! I've seen this back in high school but didn't finish and thought I should finally spend some time on it last year and it didn't disappoint!

So why do I love Yankumi? Because she's a silent killer until everyone found out that she's from a yakuza family lol and that always catches my attention. Also she's an understanding teacher who is always there for her students. She has been ignored and rejected a lot of times but she didn't give up. She was focused on making her students graduate on time and did everything to win their trust on finding again school a fun place to be and making memories with their classmates. It's the reason she has changed other teachers' perspectives, too, and made an impact on everyone around her.

It may be old but you should give it a try, though I highly recommend the manga and the live action because Yukie Nakama is cool (and also, don't forget your tissues).
