Happy two years of KinnPorsche The Series and welcome to this year's anniversary event!

In celebration of the show and us as a fandom, this event will host prompts and a rewatch, so we can enjoy the show once more, and to encourage creativity and new creations for its second anniversary. Starting from April 9th, the event will run across 28 days; dedicating two days to each episode and one prompt pair as listed below.

Any and all creations are welcome! You don't have to follow the prompts, they are just here to give you some inspiration if you'd like.

Hello, and welcome to bsd-rewatch! (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*.✧

In the last week, it was spread the idea of rewatching the anime together in the bsd fandom to kill time while we wait for the bsd manga to catch up with the anime. So we have made a blog to host the event! The plan is to rewatch all the five seasons of the anime - including the ova Hitori Ayumu and movie Dead Apple - from start to finish, every Wednesday, one or two episodes per week. The rewatch will be starting this Wednesday November 22, with the first episode of season 1, Fortune is Unpredictable and Mutable.

Everyone is welcomed to join by rewatching the episode on that day, and contribute to the event by posting their own reactions, comments, and creations! We'll be tracking #bsdrewatch2023; everything falling on that tag will be reblogged on here!

Participation is free and non-binding. That means you can feel perfectly free to join the rewatch late, watch the episodes on different days, or skip episodes! Most importantly, the event's main aim is to have fun in the fandom by revisiting the series together, especially for those who were yet to join the bsd fandom space when the anime first aired and missed out on the experience.

Alone and Forsaken

Summary: Joel is on his way to bail Tommy out of Travis County jail, having left Sarah behind sleeping. He soon realises something has gone terribly wrong with the world, and he and Tommy are desperate to save her. Basically: my interpretation of the truck journey back to the Millers to rescue Sarah, on the night of the outbreak in the HBO version. Based on this piece I wrote.

Notes: This took it out of me: I rewatched both the HBO series and the game scenes leading up to/after this to get into the right headspace, and it really did a number on me. This follows the events of the show, however feel free to interpret it however you wish! Please don’t hate me - this fic is quite sad, so please don’t continue if you feel it’ll upset you. Special thanks to @mandrillusphinx for the idea.

Slamming the truck door harder than he meant to, Joel cursed his little brother under his breath. Fuckin’ Tommy. Couldn’t even keep his shit together on his birthday. He knew it’d been a bad idea as he’d watched Tommy go earlier that night; they’d had a shitty day at work, the hours dragging on, more and more problems cropping up on site. His brother’s solution? Head into the city when they were done, hit a couple bars and drink till his back didn’t hurt anymore. Tommy knew better than to invite Joel. He’d never had that kind of freedom; becoming a father unexpectedly at 22 would do that to anyone - not that Joel resented it for a moment.

He thought of his daughter, now, as he headed along the highway towards Travis County jail to bail his shithead brother out, ready for Tommy’s lazy excuses. Guilt pooled in his stomach. The fuckin’ cake. The fuckin’ watch. Sarah was his blessing; his biggest achievement, and more often than not he felt he was letting her down as another year of fatherhood passed him by. She was growing up, blossoming into a young woman, as beautiful as her mother had been before her. He knew he ought to treasure the twilight years of just the two of them. Joel was seeing his baby through college and beyond, no doubt about that.

He couldn’t forget Sarah’s words, eating away at him as they had been for the last hour or so as he struggled to concentrate on Curtis & Viper 2, her other birthday gift. You were never gonna do it for yourself. Joel tried to escape the notion that his kid was doing a better job of parenting than he was. His baby was polite, popular; Joel swelled with pride at parent teacher conferences and at school pickups, overhearing comments from some of the other parents. She’d had to grow up quicker than her peers, and she’d taken it in her stride.

He resolved to take a couple days off that weekend; head out hiking with Sarah like they did every year for his birthday. It was their favourite thing to do together, and he hadn’t made enough effort so far this year. Joel needed to make the most of it before he lost her entirely to soccer practice and sleepovers, or when she inevitably thought she was too cool to hang out with her old man. Tommy already did a good enough job of making him feel like a fuckin’ dinosaur. Small steps first, though: don’t forget the fuckin’ cake. Again.

Joel sighed; scrubbing a hand over his face, weary to the bone as he tried to concentrate on his driving. It was only then, pulled from his reverie, that he noticed the stream of traffic flooding past. Cop car lights dazzled him; he counted a dozen in less than a minute, speeding erratically on the highway. He felt the smallest frisson of fear. What the fuck? An accident? A bomb? Police activity in Austin on a Friday night was not unusual, but the numbers were unnerving. He was driving into in the city now; a journey he knew like the back of his hand. But as he travelled further; Joel began to feel a strange sort sickness, unimaginable chaos unfolding before him.

It all happened so fast. It flashed by as he headed for the jail on autopilot: cops scuffling with bystanders on the sidewalk, smashed glass and smeared blood, and people running - sprinting - seemingly for their lives. In every direction, with no thought for the road or whatever may be on it, any sense of human instinct totally abandoned. Bodies on the floor as helicopters thundered loudly overhead; white beams casting a horrifying light on the scene playing out before him. Joel turned the radio up, chasing an explanation; terror sliding down his spine like sweat in the summertime. A monotonous voice filled the cab of the truck: “This is a National Security Alert. Return to your homes, and stay there. Further instructions will be announced in due course. This is a National-“ he switched it off, heart leaping into his mouth. Sarah.

Joel rounded the corner much too fast; headlights miraculously landing on Tommy, eyes wild as he sprinted toward the truck, people fleeing into the darkness around him. “Move the fuck over, Joel! Let me drive!” his brother was yelling, and Joel slid across the bench, half in shock. “How’d you get out-“ Joel began, but Tommy was firm, temporarily more composed than his older brother. The military man in him. “Doesn’t fuckin’ matter, Joel. We gotta get outta here, away from all these people,” he said darkly, pulling off the sidewalk. “Where’s Sarah?” he asked, wiping sweat off his brow. “At home, asleep,” Joel whispered, feeling bile rise in his throat.

Tommy cursed loudly, foot to the floor as he navigated out of the city; Joel tried to center his breathing, anxiety washing over him in an endless tide. He couldn’t drag his eyes from the windows. People hunched over bodies.. Robbing them? Murdering them? Was it some kind of poisoning in the water supply? Psychedelic drugs gone wrong? Protesting taken too far? Civil unrest? Cars were rammed into one another, power lines were faltering and storefronts were on fire. “Tommy, what the fuck is happenin’? What do you know?” Joel demanded. He hated the loss of control; the world was falling apart around him and he’d left his daughter at home. Alone. Defenceless. In the one place she should be safe.

“I overheard a nurse, sayin’ it could be some sorta new virus, people attackin’ each other and shit like that,” Tommy rambled nervously, “You remember that stuff goin’ on in Jakarta? On the radio this mornin’? Well, looks like it’s happenin’ here.” Joel did remember his birthday breakfast that morning. It felt like a different life, a million miles away, a normalcy that had been torn to shreds. Reprimanding Sarah for the egg shells, hustling her out the door for school. Sarah. His baby. “I left her, Tommy. I fuckin’… I just left her, in her bed,” Joel muttered, anger at himself curled in his chest.

“You lock the door?” his brother asked, knuckles white on the steering wheel. “Of course I did,” Joel spat, watching - waiting - for each street sign and junction, counting down the minutes. “She’ll be fine,” Tommy tried to quietly reassure him, “bet ya she won’t’ve moved an inch.” Joel ran a hand through his hair in exasperation, dripping in sweat, praying his brother was right. She’d be there, sure she would. Curled up with her sneakers on still. Right where he’d left her. Nobody could get into the house, he knew that much. Not unless they tried very fucking hard.

The disorder seemed to dissipate a little as they headed away from the city center; a tiny comfort. “Joel, this guy at the bar? The reason they called the fuckin’ cops?” Tommy started, “I ain’t ever seen shit like that in my life. I couldn’t stand there and let it happen. Dude was fuckin’ crazy, tryin’ to bite this waitress. Like he had a disease or some shit. He was twitchin’ all over, too. Maybe it’s a parasite,” he shrugged.

The blood in Joel’s veins had long since turned to ice, his brother’s story solidifying it. “Tommy, you fuckin’ get us home, and you get us there now,” Joel urged, feeling his heartbeat accelerating. His daughter’s name was a mantra in his head, repeating with each frantic thrum of his pulse. He was taking charge; Sarah needed him, and so did his brother. He hadn’t failed them yet, and he sure wasn’t gonna start now. “Rifle in the back?” he asked, Tommy nodding solemnly. Joel leaned over, grateful for something to do. Five minutes till home.

Equipping himself with a wrench, Joel urged Tommy on. Images flicked over and over in his brain like a sickening picture show: Sarah, her dark eyes - his eyes - wide with fear, her breath quickening, screaming for him, her father, who’d abandoned her in the darkness. No. He shook his head, physically, ridding himself of the nightmare. “What about the neighbours, Joel?” Tommy asked. “The Adlers? Denise, and the kids? Should we warn ‘em? Take ‘em with us?” Joel shook his head; again, more furiously this time. “Like hell, Tommy. We don’t even have a fuckin’ plan. Best we can do is tell them to stay inside,” he said irritably, guilt ever-present and swirling in his guts.

“So, what do we do?” Tommy asked plainly, earlier bravado deserting him. It always worked this way. Whatever Joel said, Tommy did. “I don’t.. I don’t know,” Joel mumbled, voice cracking. “We grab Sarah and we get the fuck out. No time for anythin’ else.” Tommy was nodding; orders received and heard. “Get a fuckin’ move on, Tommy!” Joel slammed a hand on the dash.

The cul-de-sac loomed into view: it was eerily, deathly quiet, besides a car alarm in the distance. “Come on, come on,” Joel pleaded, adrenaline coursing through him, homing in on his daughter. His purpose, all that mattered in the world. “There, Joel. I can see her!” Tommy pointed up ahead, outside the Adlers. Sarah was running. Fleeing, like he’d seen everybody do in the city. From the unknown, from danger, from death. But she was alive: her face caught in the glow of the headlights. Terrified and alone. But Joel was here now. He’d save her. Because he didn’t know what he would do if he couldn’t.

This post has been a long time coming, and here it finally is. Willow, and more importantly, the Willow Fandom, changed my life, so, thank you all for everything!

Now Presenting…

How to Get a Girlfriend by Watching Willow 2022:

Step 1. See gif of Kit on top of Jade when she was saying goodbye like on Pinterest.

Step 2. Figure out the name of the show with the hot girls.

Step 3. Rewatch the original Willow.

Step 4. Watch Willow 2022

Step 5. Realize that the feelings about other women that you have been suppressing since you were 17 are coming back to bite you in the ass.

Step 6. Reject compulsory heterosexuality.

Step 7. Call your best friend in a panic.

Step 8. Try for weeks to try to get anyone you know to watch Willow. Fail.

Step 9. Sign back into an old tumblr account and start following people just as obsessed as you are.

Step 10. Read horny fanfic. A LOT of hot horny fanfic.

Step 11. Get your best friend so fed up with you that she invited you to an LGBTQIA+ friendly community event more than an hour away just so she doesn’t have to be the only person hearing about Willow anymore.

Step 12. Make lifelong friends!!

Step 13. After several months of trying to convince people to watch Willow literally steal the TV hookup and force people to watch it.

Step 14. Share the link to the Free Willow website in the Facebook group chat so everyone can watch more episodes.

Step 15. Get private Facebook message from girl wanting to talk about Willow.

Step 16. Make friends with said girl and get a huge crush.

Step 17. Start hanging out outside of group events.

Step 18. Be awkward.

Step 19. Continue to be awkward for several months until one half of the friend group pulls you aside, and one half pulls her aside and endure an intervention.

Step 22. Get mutually pissed off at the lack of official peer reviewed research on how to have a healthy relationship. Decide to work on writing and publishing together. (So far, the only thing actually peer reviewed is our relationship, which only started due to peer review.)

Step 23. Make plans for more dates.

Step 24. Be happy!!!

Step 25. Realize that communication is hard and misunderstandings suck after reading more horny Willow fanfic.

Step 26. Write 5 page love letter in proper MLA Epistle format and give to girl.

Step 27. Become official girlfriends!

Step 28. Receive photos of her extensive collection of swords and blades.

Step 28b. Implode. (Like seriously. It was SO hot.)

Step 29. After being girlfriends for two months, bring up Willow again and find out that she doesn’t actually care that much about Willow?!?!?!!!! She likes it but was mostly using it as an excuse to talk to you?!?

Step 30. Consider breaking up with girl (not really!!) because she isn’t actually as obsessed with Willow as you are.

Step 31. Decide to share your gratitude with the ongoing Willow fandom for changing your life instead of worrying about making everyone in your life love it as much as you do. 😂

*EDIT 8/10/22* hi hello this got WAY more notes that I anticipated. I wanna slap a lil' disclaimer on here: I'm not involved in the military in any branch; my father was, but he retired out before I was even born, and due to some things I don't feel like putting on here, I no longer have him in my life. That being said- thank you to the wonderful writers & folks on here who've given me more information that I didn't have/didn't previously know of! I've only recently really been digging into my own family's military history (specifically with the Seabees), so what I know primarily comes from word of mouth or what I've been able to look into during my free time.

Also please do not take what I write on here as word of a god, per say. I'm just a writer who has found these two movies to be a massive comfort. But I'll be adjusting what I have written in here with information I've received, as well as shove this neat little piece of information about the Chest Candy that the Dagger Squad has thanks to @wombtotombx !!

I rewatched Top Gun: Maverick today and I noticed so many more little details that I hadn't before, so here you go. My thoughts. My rambles. Some theories.

First thing I noticed in the beginning is Maverick's patches on his flight jacket. He has it filled up with so many- but he also has a Seabee patch. The Seabees are a branch of the Navy that are sent in ahead of everyone else to literally build shelters for the soldiers and roads- and sometimes, embassies. (My dad was a Seabee in the 80s and 90s; he helped build the US Embassy in Cairo.) Which means that Maverick, at some point, maybe was not an aviator and instead worked on the GROUND. This isn't confirmed, he could have just been friends with a Seabee and they traded patches!

Whether this was BEFORE the events of TG or during the blank period, I don't know, but I genuinely loved that little detail. I just like that they included a little nod to them.

As we know from the first movie, Mav was never able to go into the Academy; chances are, he enlisted at 18 and went in starting at an E-0 rate, went through OCS (Officer Candidate School), or was able to be in ROTC during his high school/college years.

Also, Admiral Simpson is a 3 Star Admiral; Admiral Kazansky was a 4 Star Admiral.

Admiral Simpson was in the Academy the year Pete graduated, entering in 86 and graduating in 88 (the Academy takes 4 years to go through according to the current curriculum and rules). But Maverick has 6 rows of ribbons on his dress whites. How neat.

Warlock has 6.5 rows of ribbons!

I'm causally nabbing this from the replies to this post but @wombtotombx explained ribbons better than I've been able to understand: "More ribbons does absolutely not equal higher esteem! For example, you could have two ribbons because you received two individual meritorious awards (a Joint Achievement for being at a joint command, and a Navy/MC (Marine Corps, bc they're sister branches) Achievement at a Navy Command). But if you received these individual meritorious awards at Navy commands, you'd only get one ribbon (Navy/MC Achievement, with two stars). You can also have different ribbons for campaigns, which does not mean "esteem" but just means you were in the right place at the right time. For example, East Coast carriers that deployed to the Middle East and ended up with the Afghanistan & Inherent Resolve ribbons, plus GWOT-E. West Coast carriers did not have equivalent campaign ribbons. You could have done just as many sorties/strikes in the Pacific, but not have those "ribbons" because they don't exist."

But this also made me realize that Rueben Fitch/Payback doesn't have any ribbons at all on his uniform. Just his Wings of Gold.

Hondo is still amazing and is the literal backbone when he's on the carriers. He's the one who reads everything on the screens and without his guidance, no one would know what the fuck to do.

Natasha and Bradley have HISTORY- what that is, I don't know, but enough that she genuinely trusts his flying more than Jake's- meaning they have flown together in the past. Possibly all three have flown together.

Also, Coyote's "Hey" to her- HOO those two have HISTORY, TOO.

Natasha trusted Robert the MOMENT she realized he was her backseat. Any man who can just sneak up and no one notice? Thats a damn good pilot.

Jake was closer to Coyote, Halo, Omaha, Yale, and Harvard than the others. B Team vs A Team.

Omaha was Yale's backseat; Harvard flew alone. Halo was someone's RIO, but I can't remember who. [ EDIT: Rooster, Hangman, Coyote, and Fritz are single-seaters; Halo is Omaha's WSO and Harvard is Yale's WSO! ]

Iceman telling Pete that it's time to let go- not just of Goose (which he still doesn't), but of him, too. Tom knew that he was dying. He knew it. And he wanted Pete to be prepared. And how sad Tom looked when Pete started crying- his heart broke.

P e n n y. PENNY. The opening scene when Bradley starts singing Great Balls of Fire- how she looks so happy until she sees Maverick and sees that thousand yard stare- how she realizes that oh, holy shit, this is GOOSE'S son, and Pete is having a whole ass PTSD flashback. And how Pete's face crumbled- genuinely paled and looked ready to cry.

And then seeing how broken Pete was at Tom's funeral. How he was trying so fucking hard to hold those tears back because god, he's alone now. Rooster's words are true: no wife, no children, no one to mourn.

He's alone. Tom was the last piece. And he's gone.

Pete still talking to Goose gives me chills. He'll always talk to him. That's his wingman. But hearing him talk to Bradley immediately after he whispered 'Talk to me, dad.' God DAMN.

Also Bradley has a fear of open water. Its obvious. How he looks at the water while they fly over? Holy shit, that boy is scared out of his mind. All he can think of is this is how dad died in open water.

Jake Seresin. Jake, cocky bastard that he is, deserves to be a little cocky because he has three whole rows of ribbons. But he learned to care for his team, here. I don't think he had this connection to a team prior to this. And how terrified he looked while on standby when he heard that Rooster went down. He looked genuinely terrified. But was so, so fucking proud of his team when they got through it originally, before shit went BAD.

Also, whatever history he has with Natasha? And Rooster? I need to know. I loved hearing the Texan drawl.

But I think he tries to psych out his fellow pilots to make sure they're prepared for their mission. He wants to know who he can trust and who'll fuck it all up. And Rooster was the genuine wildcard, here.

Also, out of the 12 of them, Natasha and Jake have the most ribbons. They both have 3 full rows. From that I could see, I think Mickey (Fanboy) has the least, but I think that's because he may be the youngest? I'm not 100% sure on that, though.

Alright lovelies, it's that time again. Covid brain is still pretty strong with me tonight so I hope I don't sounds like a raving lunatic. Over here in the US it's Sunday night. For those of you on the other side of the world it's already Monday. I hope you all got some good rest this weekend, you deserve it. You've been working so very hard at just living lately. It's tough I know, and it can really wear on you over time. You're doing great though, you really are. It's so hard to see how far we've come when we are living in this constant state of survival, but you know what's really cool? There's a past version of you right now that is so incredibly proud of you. If that you could see yourself right now, they'd be in awe at how far you've come, and how much you've grown. Where you are today will be that same person in a few months or a year, marveling at your progress. You are doing so very well, even on tough days. Remember that. The crew and I are so very proud of you lovelies, and we know past you is too (and hopefully present you, but I understand if that's harder to do). Get some rest and keep at it, you got this. <3

Good Omens Book Club

POSSIBLE GOOD OMENS SPOILERS

You have been warned, please don’t spoil yourself. This refers to books referenced in S2 of Good Omens, but I am not relating them to events or plot.

EDIT: @ineffable-romantics gave some really excellent suggestions. Having rewatched and looked up their starting sentences, I think these are right. I suppose only Neil Gaiman or Douglas Mackinnon could confirm 100%. More below.

In episode 2 we get a shot of a book shelf. I have compiled the titles, though two are illegible. For one you can make out the publisher mark, the other is too far back in the shadows. I have listed them in order on the shelf, plus the books that Gabriel picked up.

“X-Ray Trivia” from Amazon Prime states “The Good Omens Book Club - Co-showrunners Neil Gaiman and Douglas Mackinnon would love for everyone to read these books. Douglas Mackinnon put these books in alphabetical order, starting with their first sentence.

All the books ‘Jim’ has reshelved so far by alphabetical order of ... the first line in each. Each book’s first line begins with ‘I’.

Season 3 Rewatch Drabbles: 3x5 Good Form

Summary: A series of 100-500 word drabbles to accompany my rewatch of season 3 of Once Upon a Time. There will be a drabble–either a deleted scene, a “fix it” fic or a character musing for each episode of the season. Focus will be on Emma, Henry, the Charmings and Killian–with an emphasis on Captain Swan’s epic love story.

Killian touched his lips softly, almost reverently, as he sat alone in the forest. She’d kissed him. She’d actually kissed him. Killian reached for his flask, needing the familiar burn of the rum on his tongue to prove to himself that he was awake and was not, in fact, in the throws of a delicious dream.

He’d flirted with her, smiling his teasing smile and playfully touching his lips as he suggested a way she might thank him for his service toward her father, but he’d never expected her to take him up on his suggestion.

Not that he was complaining. That kiss had been…. He blew out a long sigh. Even for a man so normally silver tongued as he was, there were no words.

It was more than the kiss itself–that had been steamy, passionate, blissful, of course–but it was more than that. It was….it was what the kiss revealed.

He loved her. He was in love with her. She’d snuck under his defenses as stealthily as any pirate could have, and without his knowledge, she’d taken possession of his heart.

It was an uncomfortable feeling, if he were being honest. He’d never been one to bestow his love lightly, but when he did, there was no going back. He’d spent two-hundred bloody (often literally) years in Neverland because of love for Milah, for heaven’s sake. The thought of moving on from her, of bestowing his heart on another and giving her the power to crush it as thoroughly as Milah’s death had done…

He took another long swallow.

Well, there was nothing for it now. It had happened. He’d fallen in love again.

As he continued to sit and ruminate on the events of the day, it occurred to him that while the revelation of his love was momentous, it was by no means the only noteworthy thing that had happened that day.

This place, Neverland, had a truly ghastly effect on its inhabitants. It had a way of bringing one's worst fears, one's greatest insecurities, one's biggest regrets to mind. This place was depression in physical form. He’d survived his last stint here with the aid of one thing and one thing only–his revenge. That goal, that singular purpose had allowed him to keep his wits about him.

This time around….well, the fact that he’d allowed the Crocodile on his ship, formed a tentative truce with him, proved that he had given up on that revenge. Without that singular focus to ruminate upon, he’d spent the hours on this island this go around reminded of his sins, his faults, the fact that he was a villain whom the heroes tolerated only.

Hadn’t David said it himself this morning? “Let me give you a bit of advice, Hook. She’s never gonna like you. How could she? You’re nothing but a pirate.”

Though he’d tried to keep the mocking grin on his face, it had stung, and for the first time, Killian realized how very much he wanted to change his life, become the kind of man Emma’s father–a man who was so much like his own hero, Liam–would approved of.

But at that moment, the gloom of Neverland had descended, and he’d come to realize he’d never be that man; he’d never overcome his past. He’d never reach a higher status than “the pirate with which we’ve formed a temporary but begrudging alliance”.

And so it had continued throughout the day. David had taken pains to make his disdain and dislike known and felt, taking small verbal digs at him, even as he attempted to save his life.

So it was that the second most astounding event of the day–second only to the kiss–had happened. When they’d returned to camp after achieving their ends at the top of Dead Man’s Peak, David had not only given him credit, but had toasted him, had bestowed on him the look of approval and gratitude Killian had never dared hope to receive from him.

It had embarrassed him a bit, having the entire company of heroes and Regina (he still wasn’t sure where upon the hero-villain spectrum she truly belonged) raise a flask to him, but the warmth it engendered had been as potent as his rum.

For the first time, he could see a way forward. Maybe he didn’t have to be forever defined by his past villainous deeds. Perhaps….perhaps there was a path to redemption available for him after all.
