ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS S2 BTS VIDEO! :)❤ 🐍😊
Tumblr media
David: Good Omens 2 will be once more unto the breach...
Tumblr media
Michael: The kind of world that Neil and Terry Pratchett created here. It's... it seems to be expanding out into the world in all kinds of unexpected and and truly joyful ways.
Tumblr media
Douglas Mackinnon (the directior): If Season one was a comedy about the End of the World, Season Two is a comedy about the beginning of everything else.
Tumblr media
Miranda Richardson (demon Shax): The Bromance is continuing.
Tumblr media
Doon Mackichan (Archangel Michael): What a cast, is all I can say, incredible, incredible cast.
Tumblr media
Liz Carr (angel Saraqael): But of course a script of Good Omens is a whole different thing because anything can happen.
Tumblr media
Shelley Con (Prince of Hell Beelzebub): There's always a smirk somewhere around the corner in a Good Omens script.
Tumblr media
Quelin Sepulveda (angel Muriel): I had no idea what to expect, where this character was gonna go...
Liz: I feel quite honored that when they were thinking of the realms of sarcasm they thought of me.
Tumblr media
Gloria Obianyo (angel Uriel): Seven-year-old me is like, 'Oh my God! This is the stuff of dreams!'
Tumblr media
Maggie Service (human Maggie): A whole Fantastical Universe of joy that we just get to playing and you'll get to watch.
Tumblr media
Tim Downie (Mr Brown): I am immeasurably, immeasurably excited.
Tumblr media
Jon Hamm (Archangel Gabriel / Jim): You know I was very pleased when when I was brought back to be a part of that story.
Tumblr media
Neil Gaiman: Ppeople are excited and I'm working so hard to tell them absolutely nothing. I'm very lucky because Michael Sheen and David Tennant love Crowley and Aziraphale. I think the first moment that I saw David and Michael acting together... all of a sudden there was Crowley and there was Aziraphale, it was like seeing two friends who I hadn't seen for years.
Tumblr media
David: There's something about the way Neil sees the mundane that is extraordinary and there's something about the way things filter through his imagination and of course in this world it also sprinkled with the imagination of Terry Pratchett and those two together created this cocktail that is it's unlike anything you've seen anywhere else and yet it feels utterly familiar.
Michael: And they both have a sense of the absurdity of what it is to be a human.
Tumblr media
Rob Wilkins: When you've got David and Michael in front of the camera David and Michael evaporate and you have Crowley in Aziraphale and that relationship it needed it needed interrogating more and of course we all know that Terry and Neil had conversations about what the sequel would be and Neil has taken that and he's blown it up in a way that the viewers are just going to love so what would Terry think? Terry would pat Neil on the back and he would push Good Omens forward, he would break a bottle of champagne over its bows and be absolutely delighted and I know that, I'm the one person on Earth who's been entrusted to know that for certain and I promise you Terry would be absolutely delighted.
Tumblr media
David: We've got some cast members coming back, returning but playing different parts which is a lovely little addition to things isn't it, so Miranda Richardson is back not playing the same role as Season One, she's now Shax, my replacement - Crowley's replacement on Earth.
Tumblr media
Neil: Shelley Conn came in as Beelzebub and it feels in a weird way kind of like a Doctor Who Regeneration. We have a new demon called Furfur played by Rheece Shearsmith who was our Shakespeare in Season One.
Tumblr media
David: Nina and Maggie were two of the Sisters in Season One, The nunnery of Doom, and now they are two characters imaginatively called Nina and Maggie.
Tumblr media
Maggie: In season one really it was just me and the nuns, it was the nun gang, so to actually get to meet Aziraphale and Crowley... I hadn't been prepared for how delightful Aziraphale is.
Neil: Season Two begins about threem four years after the events of Season One.
Michael: Aziraphale and Crowley now are, you know, out on their own, they're.. they're a team to themselves.
Neil: Everything changes when Aziraphale gets an unexpected visitor.
Michael: A familiar face comes along with a mystery that needs solving and as Aziraphale and Crowley attempt to solve that mystery they realize that there are much more terrifying things ahead than they've had to deal with in the past. That involves having to go back through history as well to get clues as to what might be going on.
David: When we go back into these stories set within Aziraphale and Crowley's personal history there are moments within those stories where where their relationships sort of pivots or develops in some way. Himself and Aziraphale I think rely on each other even more in season two than they did in Season One because they are by necessity and by circumstance they're a they're a double act that nobody else can join.
Michael: It's extraordinary to see how important these characters and this story have become to a lot of people and how much people enjoy expressing themselves through art, through fan fiction.
David: I went to a Comic-Con and the amount of Crowleys and Aziraphales that I saw everywhere, the cosplaying just took off, and always in twos, which was joyous because of course the characters in my mind only exist in relation to each other. They are the Ying and the Yang.
Michael: It's such a... I think it's such a compliment and I think Neil feels the same way as well.
Maggie: Always clever Neil Gaiman, isn't he?
Nina: Yeah yeah, you'd have to sort of admit that at some point, yeah-
Maggie: He's quite good at his job.

RIGHT, Good Omens folks, let’s talk blocking: the art of where you put your actors within the scene, in relation to others.
Season 1, Aziraphale is always on the right side, and Crowley is always on his left side. The only exceptions to this is in the Bentley, because of the steering wheel, and on the park bench during the switch.
Aziraphale expects Crowley to appear on his left too. At the Ark he still turns right when he feels an ethereal presence, only to turn left right away. Present day, when he’s eating sushi and Gabriel appears, he smiles, turns *left*, instantly realises it’s not that kind of ethereal visit, turns right with a bit of a panic.
Aziraphale right, Crowley left. Always. Right?
Season 2 switches this up. By a LOT.
It starts moment one in the coffee shop, blink and you’ll miss it: Aziraphale is sitting down, senses Crowley, *turns left*, only for Crowley to walk around the table *right*, and sit down. It’s a tiny moment, but it speaks so loudly on… well, Aziraphale’s assumptions. Which he has a lot of.
Everything is Meant. Douglas is too brilliant for this to be random. And it happens… so often?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also find it very interesting that they added moments in history where Crowley is on the right side. Most particularly one where he definitely is *on* the moral right side. (‘Poverty is good actually’, really Aziraphale?)
Tumblr media
Then there’s this scene, which, the Job flashback deserves a whole essay onto its own…
Tumblr media
Then there’s the the fact that Crowley is always on Shax’s right, and she is always on his left.
And then there’s this!
Tumblr media
Muriel is *always* on Crowley’s left.
It’s almost as if things aren’t as black and white as the system would want you to believe, ey, angel?
Bonus: Gabriel and Beelzebub start off their meetings on opposite sides of the table. They end sitting on the same side.
Anyhoo I love this show a VERY NORMAL AMOUNT please feel free, always, to scream at me about it.

Making It Weirder - David Tennant at C2E2 discussing Good Omens
I think Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett... they have a very unique writing voice.  I think that's why they're so beloved and that's why they have such huge fan bases.  I think if anyone else had tried to adapt Good Omens for the screen they would have made it normal.  They'd have sort of knocked off the bananas edges.  It would just have made sense to make it more linear and to reduce the number of characters and to take some of the weirder stuff out, because it's hard to film. And Neil being Neil just went, “No we're doing all of that, exactly as it is, and do you know what?  We're going to make it weirder”

To people panicking about Douglas Mackinnon's departure from Good Omens:
Try to relax. Inhale, exhale.
Does it mean that s3 is cancelled? No, it doesn't. Shows switching directors between (or even during) seasons is a pretty common thing. Sure, whoever steps in might have a somewhat different approach. It would be kinda sad if they end up doing a worse job than Douglas, but remember that Neil is still there to make sure things don't go too wrong. Also, while Douglas undoubtedly did great at the first two seasons, who said the new director is gonna be worse?
And even if for some reason every director on Earth turns out to be unavailable to work on s3, or Amazon decides to be silly and not approve it, Neil had already said previously that he will release s3 as a book in case it can't be done as a show. He also said that he already has the ending written in case something happens to him personally, so we are pretty much doomed to know how the story ends. Agnes Nutter would be proud.
This franchise survived Terry Pratchett's death, for someone's sake. It can survive switching a director. A healthy level of concern regarding the direction it takes is understandable, but I really don't think Armageddon is upon us for real this time.

As curious as I am to what could Neil and Douglas fight so hard about that ended their working relationship so bitterly and suddenly, I honestly think it’s best we don’t find out anything about it. First, because they don’t owe us an explanation; it’s their real life and none of our business. Second, what’s the point? People will take sides and be toxic about it to everyone involved in the show with a social media account. There’s already wild and borderline hateful speculation on Twitter and truthfully that’s not what the Good Omens fans signed up for. We don’t know these people personally, and we are good to be reminded of that every so often.
Let’s hope they can mend their relationship eventually, even if it doesn’t result in DM coming back to the show.
We’ll be OK 👍

Good Omens NYCC panel recap
   - Guests: Neil Gaiman, Douglas Mackinnon, Rob Wilkins, Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya and Guelin Sepulveda, it is said that Michael Sheen will join at the end over Zoom.
About Season 1
- What do they miss most when S1 wrapped and before S2:
Douglas: All the cast and all the crew. We were very big and cuddly family.
Neil: Yeah.
Rob: David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
Nina: Missing the mentioned family and being part of the nuns sisterhood.
- At the beginning they shared several bts stories from season 1 and the book:
First day of shooting in the bookshop was cancelled because of the blizzard and the second day they were foreced to shoot interiors because outside there were people with flamethrowers trying to melt what was there. So they build the set of Soho 2 inside.
Rob kept a lot of the vehicles from S1 and S2, all the motorbikes, the cars, and now I have topped it with Crowley’s Bentley.
A lot of nuns including Maggie had warts, but Nina didn’t want one.
Neil about Nina’s audition (read more here).
That both Michael and David both independently suggested that he might like to write a Good Omens stage play so they may swap roles each night.
About Michael originally being Crowley (more here and here).
About Terry and Neil being Aziraphale and Crowley - Neil: In the creation of Crowley Terry took the things that I did that he thought were hilarious, like wearing sunglasses indoors when I didn’t need to. He put a lot of me into Crowley but then we both put a lot of ourselves into both of them. (here, also this).
Michael Sheen is amazing mimic, Neil recalls that during one of the final scenes he had producer headphones on, the guys were acting and sitting on the bench and all of the sudden David Tennant started saying awful things about Michael Sheen, just, you know, there’s Crowley and Aziraphale talking and Crowley is saying all this stuff about how Aziraphale is fat Michael can’t act and all the stuff and I’m like ‘Whaat?! David is the nicest man in the world...’ and then the penny drops and it’s Michael sitting there doing pitch perfect as Crowley.
About Season 2
Tumblr media
- What was like for Quelin to join the show:
She was a fan. The very first day was a bit like out of body experience, there was a scene where she interacted with David and Michael. So it was like, ‘Concentrate, Quelin, concentrate! It’s okay, it’s okay!’ And it was just overwhelming in the best of ways, honestly.
She plays angel Muriel. When Neil and John Finnemore talked about season 2, they realized that they didn't have another nice, well-meaning angels except for Aziraphale in Heaven, all they had were bastards, all awfull, so they thought ‘Let’s have a nice one’ and so they created angel Muriel, curious, gullible, well-meaning and chatty angel that spent 6000 filing in the same office in Heaven hoping that somebody would come in and the day would get more interesting and it doesn’t.
She’s a 37th order scrivener, bottom of the pily, it’s her first time to Earth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- They felt Terry’s presence also during filming S2.
- Douglas said that they started doing the ADR post production and that the difference between David and Michael is that David looks at the monitor and whatches what he’s done and Michael never watch, so now Michael saw himself for the first time and he was like a fan doing, ‘Oh look we’re back! And there’s Aziraphale!’.
- Neil about Maggie and Nina returning:
It was a thing where one of the things I was very very certain before I started writing season 2 that there were two characters in it and I wanted them to be played by Maggie and Nina, so in order to make it clear to everybody reading the script, that they were going to be played by Maggie and Nina, I called the characters Maggie and Nina. Maggie and Nina liked being Maggie and Nina so the names stayed.
Douglas joked that he thought that a bit lazy not to think up new names and it was hell on set. Later he jokes that since Muriel is an actual angel name, that Neil didn’t make that one either.
Maggie runs a record shop which is beside Aziraphale’s bookshop in Soho, Mr. Fell is her landlord, shop passed through the generations. Her shop looks across shop where Nina works.
Tumblr media
Nina works in the independent coffeeshop Give Me Coffe or Give Me Death, she is good with dealing with people in Soho who come in, not afraid of dealing with them. Wears great cardigans. Her character is quite grumpy. There is a scene where at the start her love life is doomed and she is getting passive-agressive texts for Lindsay - Neil says writing the texts was some of the most fun they had  - maybe there will be a hope for her love life.
Tumblr media
- About more characters:
Neil didn’t want to lose people because they are such a family and wanted Miranda Richardson back but Madame Tracy’s story had really finished and couldn’t think of more for here and her story had ended so beautifully so he wrote a new part for Miranda - she plays Shax, demon that was sent on Earth as the replacement of sacked Crowley.
Tumblr media
Anna Maxwell Martin couldn’t make the filming (was in two shows and a stage play when they needed her), so Beelzebub is played by Shelley Conn. She demanded a lot more flies.
Tumblr media
Donna Preston plays Mrs. Sandwich, and We’we never quite sure about Mrs. Sandwich’s profession but she’s definitely in Soho.
-When Neil started writing S2:
In August 2019 he told Amazon and BBC at fancy breakfast, ‘This is the plot.’, and they said, ‘Oh, we like that plot.’
In December he and John Finnemore got together and Neil told him the plot and he said, ‘That is a good plot, but how does it end’ Neil said that he doesn’t have ends until he gets there but John needed one so Neil said, ‘How about this?’ and told him the end and John said, ‘That’s a good end.’ And that is the end we’ve got.
He started writing it in the middle of the pandemic Summer 2020, writing with pencil to his notebook the first scene which is the first scene.
- Neil what will S2 be about:
Six episodes, each about 45 minutes.
There are some love stories in it.
We will learn a lot about Jane Austen we didn’t know before.
There is a lot more Heaven, a lot more Hell.
- What could be more eras for Aziraphale and Crowley
Douglas: 19th century Scotland, Neil: Edinburgh perhaps around 1827?, Douglas: That would be good, can you write that?, Neil: Oddly enough, episode 3 will take us to a little stint of body snatching in the era. For me it would be like 1941 and we’d go back to those Nazis. Douglas: That would be good and what about something biblical as well, could we do something? Neil: Bible’s good. Yeah back to biblical times, that would be really fun, we could do one of those in episode 2. (they are obviously talking about minisodes :))
- There was a clip from the show but only sound for those watching the stream.
Listen here.
Description from twitter ‘Crowley rushes into the bookshop holding plants and it’s so cute’.
This pic should be from it :)
Tumblr media
- Season 2 Release Date: Summer 2023
- At the end on the zoom dropped not on Michael but also David and Jon Hamm! :)
Watch here :), their banter was written by Neil, Staged-style.
Michael and David found out that there’s going to be S2 probably at the same time from Neil. There was always sort of hope after the end of S1 that there might be more story to tell. Jon found out about it from Neil during press for S1 as potentiality and then during covid Neil said an idea to Jon that we would start by walking down the street in Soho completely nude and he send me the beggining of the scene where Gabriel does not recogni- and the rest is deliberately cut with ‘Lost connection’, to the nude part Neil said, I knew that if he said yes to that he’d say yes to anything and then he says it is not actually there.

Guys, Douglas Mackinnon does NOT mean GO3 is cancelled
1. Neil confirmed that a script is commissioned and he is working on it right now
2. if GO would be cancelled he wouldn’t just delete his bio and then his whole Instagram. He would rather do the opposite
3. Him and Neil using nearly the same explanation means it is something personal
4. him leaving doesn’t put the show in any danger. Directors leaving is a normal thing to happen
5. it of course can change the tone of the show. But good thing is that season 3 is mostly set already. Jesus2.0, Zombies, Supreme Arc Angel Aziraphale, Cottage
The show is in no danger

Update/follow up to this post: It looks like Neil responded to the Douglas situation on Bluesky...
Tumblr media
I'm not sure I entirely trust this reply, as his tone here seems as curt as Douglas's was on Instagram. Also because "moving onto other projects" doesn't normally involve the extra steps of unfollowing someone and removing mentions of the show from your bio and deactiving your Twitter.
So I stand by my assertion that this feels like something personal has occurred, though I don't think we will ever know what, specifically (and it is still for Neil and Douglas to resolve between them, if they want to). Sad days indeed....
