Part 4
Robin wouldn’t call the walk home pleasant, but it did give her time to think. Time to second guess everything she had done. Time to rehearse the conversation she was going to have with Steve over the phone. And then time to remember he’d be with Eddie tonight and with any luck, putting the moves on him.
When she got home, she dialed halfway and stopped about three times before calling anyway. When Steve picked up, he was breathing a little hard.
“Please tell me I just interrupted you and Eddie running a marathon”, Robin groaned as she fell back against her bed.
“You knew what might be happening when you called. By the way why are you calling? Your date with Nancy finished already?”
“Oh we’re finished alright.”
“That doesn’t sound good. What happened?”
“Are you sure it’s more important than Eddie’s blue balls right now?”
“Robin you’re way more important than Eddie’s balls.”
“Hey! I heard that Harrington!
“She’s more important than your dick too!”
Robin felt her bottom lip quiver a little. “Steve, you have no idea how much that means to me.”
“I mean it. If you wanna talk I can send Eddie home and you can come. Or I’ll go to you.”
“Your courting suitor won’t mind being booted?”
It took a moment for Steve to answer and Robin worried that she might actually be getting on Eddie’s bad side.
“No, I don’t think he’ll mind”, Steve said. “I’m like....85% sure he’s super into me and will let me get away with anything.”
Robin felt a bit of weight lift off her shoulders. Sounded like things had gone well for them tonight. “We can talk tomorrow. You know, when he’s not humping your leg.”
“First thing in the morning”, Steve promised. “Good night.”
“Night, Steve.”
That left Robin to wallow. Or rather to let her thoughts race one right after the other. And she didn’t want to forget when her brain made a particularly good point so she wrote them all down.
When Steve came over to her house the next morning, she had a handful of papers.
“These contain everything that can happen regarding my decision to either forgive her or not, date her or not, or move to Connecticut.”
“You’ve truly covered all the bases”, Steve said, settling in for a long morning.
-----------------------------
Eddie’s first instinct that morning was to find Nancy. Actually, it was to kiss Steve all over his body (the inner elbow was an oft-ignored area) but since Steve was busy, he figured he’d seek out Nancy and figure out what happened.
Something went wrong and he felt partially to blame for it. He was the one who switched up the plan.
Not wanting to cross paths with Ted Wheeler or get held up by Mike, Eddie climbed his way to Nancy’s window and tapped. Her window thrust open and she let out a sigh.
“I thought you were Steve.”
“Good morning to you too, sunshine-whoa.” Eddie paused when he got two feet on the floor, seeing an array of papers on Nancy’s bed.
Nancy turned her gaze to the mess on her bed. “I know how it looks-”
“It looks like you spent all night working on college essay when you should’ve been making out with Buckley.”
“They’re not ess-did you and Steve make out last night?”
“Mmm, and then some”, Eddie smiled dreamily at the memory.
“Unbelievable”, Nancy began to pace around. “So you just bypassed all the awkwardness, whether he’s gay or not, and any sort of history you two had and went right to jumping his bones?”
“You did say those would all be miniscule obstacles. And you were right!”, Eddie threw his hands up. “And you’re not celebrating with me. What happened last night?”
Nancy sat on her bed, right on top of the papers. “I mean how can I have baggage with someone I never even dated?”
Slowly, Eddie sat down next to her, waiting for her to continue.
“Last night, Robin asked why me and Steve broke up. And apparently, my answer painted me as an unfeeling, manipulative bitch and she walked out on our date.”
“Robin didn’t say that?”, Eddie’s brow furrowed.
“No, no of course she didn’t but I’m pretty good at reading between the lines.”
“Or projecting and putting words into people’s mouths.”
“It doesn’t matter. This was a stupid idea”, Nancy got up and started balling the paper up.
“Hey hey what’re all these anyway? If they’re not essays what were you doing last night?”
“They’re....”, Nancy took a breath. “They’re scenarios, okay? I decided to take a page out of your book and jot down what might happen. If I apologize to Steve, maybe we can fully mend our friendship, Robin will give me a second chance. Or I’ll apologize, Robin forgives me but still doesn’t want to date me. Or like a bunch of...other ideas...”
“This one just says ‘move to Paris’.”
“Oh like you’ve never thought of moving somewhere and changing your identity.”
“This seems like an....extreme reaction to one bad date.”
“It wasn’t just one bad date. This is...it’s something major.”
“You care about Robin that much, huh?”
“And Steve!”
Eddie’s eyes widened at that.
“I care about him. I know that might be hard to believe but I never meant to hurt him back then. And there was just never a good time to explain everything that I had been feeling, every choice that I made and-what are you doing?”, Nancy asked when Eddie stood up from the bed.
“Hold that thought.” He grabbed Nancy’s phone off the hook and dialed a number. “Hello Mrs. Buckley, is Robin there? Yes, and I’m sure Steve Harrington is with her? Of course. Thank you.”
Nancy went over to him, eyes wide. “What are you doing?!”, she asked again with more urgency.
“Don’t be rude, I’m on the phone”, Eddie said before giving said device his full attention. Steve must’ve answered because Eddie said “Hey baby” in a way that made Nancy feel like she shouldn’t be listening.
She stood there helplessly while Eddie spoke on the phone.
“What’re you two peapods up to? ....Really? What a coincidence me and Big Wheel are doin’ the same...Yeah?... Sounds perfect?... Say, in an hour?..Gotcha.” While Eddie talked, he ignored all of Nancy’s questioning facial expressions which were all incredibly emotive.
“Oh! I almost forgot. I remembered what I was trying to say last night. You and Robin are the otters, but you and and Nancy are the hermit crabs.”
“Eddie what the fuck?”, Nancy whispered in a hiss.
Eddie turned towards the wall as his voice got a little deeper. “Oh yeah?..Would you like that baby? OW! Okay Nancy!”, Eddie exclaimed when she hit him with an encyclopedia. “Bye, see you at the place. Mwahmwahmwah”, Eddie kissed the receiver of the phone both to fluster Steve and to annoy Nancy more.
“God you’re worse than Mike.”
“You mean better, right?”
“What the hell was that call about?”
“The four of us are gonna sit down and have a little parley.”
Nancy was regretting putting this plan into action every minute that passed.
Part 6
I’ve thought about who their fifth person should be that acts as a mediator and I think I’ve come up with the funniest solution but imma keep it to myself until I actually write the next part. And maybe if u guys are good I’ll post steve and eddie’s full night

ted's, "it's not about me. it never was"
and all I felt from trent was, "oh, but it was"
I thought trent was going to stick to his word and tell ted why he was wrong...
but I guess ted just summed up his outlook and something trent so loves him for, so trent couldn't deny ted's wish. but there's got to be a future out there where, while still published as "the richmond way," trent still goes on and tells ted why, for trent, ted was entirely wrong about that.
I feel like in the show I want Ted Lasso to be -- and, crucially, the show I thought it was; the show it arguably should have been based on every other episode that came before this -- Trent would have corrected him. Because this is not an acknowledgement that Richmond doesn't belong to Ted, or even Rebecca, which is a reminder that I like. Ted allowing the fans to sit in on the practices and Rebecca selling portions of the club to people like Mae highlights the heart of the team, that this club "means something" to the community, to quote Trent. However, the book is explicitly, specifically about this particular season of football and how Richmond came to have their Cinderella moment... which is all due to Ted. I get why "Believe" is framed as the fourth factor in Total Football (and frankly I think it would have been a better title for Trent's book if he had to reject The Lasso Way), but belief is only the end result of the work Ted has done. Anyone could have waltzed into Richmond and said, "Believe in yourself!" but it wouldn't have done a damn thing because it was the unique approach of The Lasso Way that taught everyone what belief really means. Ted is the fourth aspect because it is only through his methods that generic concepts like Belief, Friendship, Trust, Compassion, etc. become understood well enough to be implemented despite the obstacles.
So yes, I think Ted is wrong. Trent isn't arguing that Richmond belongs to him, he's arguing that Ted irrevocably changed Richmond for the better... which is true. But the finale doesn't commit to that argument because, frankly, the finale commits to VERY little that the rest of the show lays out.
Ted Lasso spent its whole runtime arguing for Roy/Keeley and then dodged it at the last moment.
The finale argues strongly that Rebecca is already a metaphorical mom to the team and the fans, but then throws in a literal, blonde-haired blue-eyed daughter in at the last second.
The show has consistently framed Beard/Jane as an abusive relationship -- from Higgins intervention to Beard talking to God about his addiction to "pain" -- but the finale irrevocably fames this as true love instead.
Our wonderful queer plot-line made it clear that Colin was too scared to kiss his fellow after a game because that would out him as the only pro, queer footballer... and then he just does it anyway. Which I'm not upset about on its own, to be clear, rather I'm upset that there was no setup for why Colin's feelings changed; why he's suddenly willing to shoulder an understandable, HUGE downside.
The finale argues VERY strongly that Ted should not go back to Kansas. In fact, I plan to write a whole damn essay on that. He's clearly not himself, Rebecca is begging him to stay, Beard is staying and is in tears over the idea of betraying him, they haven't won the whole thing yet which provides a practical reason for him to stick around, Ted literally questions whether he's making a foolish, horrible choice as he's sitting on the plane... and then he does it anyway.
This finale is chock-full of choices that don't match up with what the rest of Ted Lasso has written, or even something from earlier in the finale itself. When Trent says that he's going to push back against any criticisms and explain why they're wrong, outside of the jokey "I'm a passionate writer, an ~artist, who is a little on the arrogant side," it sets up a moment for Trent to indeed correct one of them about their view of the book. After all, he's been the observer all season and arguably has a more objective understanding of what's been happening around him than they do. We've already seen it! Trent stops Ted and (accurately) explains how no, he hasn't changed tactics. You've been doing this for three years. I can see that even when you can't.
The show sets up the moment where Trent will explain that Ted is the foundation of Richmond's success and, presumably, helping him come to terms with staying here.
... and then we never got that.
There were honestly so many parts of the finale that I loved, but most of them were details like the Sound of Music farewell, or putting the "Believe" sign back together. Structurally, one of the few things I really bought into was the team winning the West Ham match and losing the league... which was unfortunately soured after the fact because that now reads as the PERFECT excuse for Ted to stay another season, yet he doesn't. I'm trying so hard not to read the whole thing pessimistically given how many of those details I loved, but when the core plot of the episode has so many problems, damn is it difficult. Other than Rebecca, it felt like the whole cast, Trent included, just gave up on Ted and given my very strong feelings about Kansas I wanted to shake the episode by the shoulders and go, "Stop acting as if this is a good thing just because this is what the writers originally planned! Did you learn nothing from HIMYM??" There are these moments, like with the book note, where you get this sense that everyone is respecting Ted's wishes, but that they thoroughly disagree with them, and the show never hits the point where Ted's viewpoint is appropriately challenged in a way that would make him reconsider. Despite the fact that Ted is a character who frequently needs to be challenged due to limited, inaccurate perspectives brought on by his anxiety (this season gave us "Find out before you freak out" as a big example). I legit had hope for a moment when Sharon showed up, thinking that Ted's therapist of all people would be able to articulate why giving up his family/support system to play his mother's approved version of fatherhood might not be the best decision... but, like so many other aspects, her return didn't amount to anything other than a wholesome callback.
It's a tragedy, frankly. As in, the genre definition. Everyone in the Ted Lasso cast is living the Rom-Com ending of found family, new romantic relationships, and bright, happy, humorous moments... except for Ted himself, staring pensively into the camera as he comes full circle, back to where he began. Back in Kansas. Back (non-romantically) with a woman who doesn't like him very much. Back trying to be a perfect father because that's what's expected of him + that's what his trauma demands of him. And now he's dealing with Jack, no Beard, no American football, no professional soccer, no visits as the rest of his family undergoes major life changes. Just Henry and the reminders from Season One that you're allowed to be a goldfish. After all that growth Ted has gone backwards.
I said before that obviously they were setting up the Kansas ending -- I'm not saying it came out of nowhere, not at all -- but I really don't understand how anyone can watch that and not feel depressed as hell about it. Ted Lasso is a show that consistently left me feeling good and hopeful and nearly giddy with pleasure. It says something that after finishing yesterday I mostly just felt hollow.

Hii tamelee! If I remember correctly, you’re studying storytelling, is that right? I wondered if you could explain in details what kind of school you’re going, or just what exactly you are doing in your studies? If it’s okay with you of course 😊
Have a good day :)
Hi~! Yeah, sure!
I did marketing, (communication and entertainment), but then finished audiovisual and graphic design because I liked that much better than learning about how manipulative the industries are tbh. Unfortunately, I found out quickly, that pretty much every job in that industry has been taken over by AI and that even me learning how to draw wasn’t going to help me with that anymore either 🥲. Then, I continued doing Storytelling in the communication sector (where, yet again I learned about all the ways people are being manipulated -.-) because it’s quite a new official study. And then, I was accepted to apply for the program that focusses more on fiction— and got in. Which I’m doing right now (though I’m almost done).
In short, what I learned about Storytelling in business is that organizations use the elements of fictional storytelling combined with science (both internally and externally) in order to influence and convince the attitude, knowledge and behavioral patterns for the right audiences that are targeted by a certain communication goal. That goes so far that even the science about our brains are dissected to figure out the best ways in which the organization can redirect your neurotransmitters and hormones to benefit the storyteller. Even if you know you’re being manipulated, (for example, through a commercial that’s shamelessly stomping on your morals through a guilt-trip, or a product in the store that’s obnoxiously being shoved in front of you), often it’s still about targeting your subconscious and trust me when I say that if you enjoy spending time on the internet, it happens to you all the time and you don’t even know it :D
And yes, companies like shueisha/VIZ are masters in this as well— hence me disappointingly complimenting that skill at times.
So, imagine my joy when I crossed the bridge toward fiction.
Fictional storytelling is where I dissect not the science of a human brain exactly, but the story that’s being told. I have to figure out all the elements and literary devices that are being used and what they mean in the story. Not what it means to me, but finding meaning through the Theme the author/creator has used, and why. It’s about how a story is structured and what impacts people on an emotional level for their benefit (mostly). Why a story works and keeps you up all night, why others are usually almost always forgotten quickly. It’s not as subjective as people may think. Interpretation doesn’t mean much unless there’s intentionally room for it. (And when something is intentional or when it’s not.) There’s also science in its logic, but that’s not something most authors/creators focus on. And they really shouldn’t have to imo. It’s also knowing about character arcs and how to implement symbolism and motifs effectively. I have to write essays on movies and books or even TED talks. It’s using knowledge to figure out the why, what and how.
I think it’s awesome as a study, but other than some creative writing lessons, it won’t help me with great prose. It’s hard for me to connect with my own emotions and body which is something a lot of great authors can do really well. Either naturally or having to have practiced the connection with their personal emotional intelligence in order to write their Truth in their own authentic way through their characters. I read many books outside of my study from scriptwriters as well which were helpful. None of it is any reassurance I’ll be able to write my own story effectively though. It’s more a guideline of sorts with knowledge and structure which a neurodivergent like me (yes, I’m diagnosed officially) really needs xD. I still have to practice a lot! ^^  Hope you have a good day as well 🌷!

Heya^^ I saw how your shop is open and I'd like to order a chocolate cake and a medium lemonade(just some regular relationship hcs^^) The fandom I'd like order my cake from is from BSD please^^
☾Ok some things about myself (so so so sorry if it's too much/long) Ok so for starters my name is Kristina but closer friends call me Kris, Cis fem - Capricorn - infj
☾Appearance wise I'm on the shorter side and have a dark brown pixie cut and dark brown eyes, I have a couple freckles and wear glasses
☾I tend to be more introverted when meeting new people, I can hold a conversation way better when talking to one on one so my attention can only be focused on one person and give them my full attention. One I get more comfortable with someone I tend to be more jokingly sarcastic and like to goof around but I'll always get the hint if they are not in the mood to joke around
☾I'm really passionate about psychology and painting. On the weekends or when I'm finished with work I tend to draw on my sketchbook to visualise my next painting while listening to video essays about different types of diagnosis and how they affect the brain and behaviour(my favourite video essays is Fear of forgetting by Clark Elieson, ok but srs it's so good) and my paintings mostly comsist of still life with warm colours
☾And god forbid if one of my friends lets me ramble about psychology cuz I'll turn a casual convo to a hole ted talk and go on and on until they tell me to shut up(plus I have a inside joke with my therapist that I turned the tables and her therapist)
☾That's kinda it, tysm for giving me this opportunity and don't forget to hydrate!!!!!!!!

I'm going to match you up with dazai or ranpo
for dazai, I can definitely see him taking an interest in you (similarly to how he was with atsushi)
at first he'd be curious because you're kind of quiet
however once you start warming up to him, he's curious to get to know you more
playful banter, a mixture of flirting as well, is thrown back and forth between the both of you
you're interest in psychology catches his attention too
he likes to listen to your take on how each diagnosis affects the way from how one thinks to how they behave
may or may not get into his, yours or both your mental state as well
once you start your speech on psychology, he won't stop you either
he'll sit there with you the entire time
giving you one of his signature smirk /smile
he's happy that you've been able to find your passion and drive in life
beyond that, he's glad that he can share a peice of his mind with someone else
would definitely be interested in your paintings as well
and the thought process behind it
questions you about every single detail
^ asks a lot of why questions as well
sometimes he ponders if your choice of art and colour as well are a reflection of your own mind
he likes to lounge near by and watch as you paint
falling asleep to the sound of your painting and the brush stroking on the paper
likes to call you silly nicknames such as kit / kitkat and so on
when you're both in the office, he likes to rest his head on top of yours and watch as you complete your work
he's bored out of his mind but at least you're there for him to disturb
Tumblr media
Ranpo
similarly to dazai, he just likes to cause problems
will confidently strut over to your table and munch on his candies noisily while you're doing your work
don't expect much to get done
with you being his partner, it's like someone he can share his every thought with
(like an open diary essentially)
when you first met him, he was very pushy
always asking what you're listening to or what you're painting
sometimes likes to grab one side of the earpiece and listen to it beside you
but in the end he too, gets invested in what you're listening to and stays by your side
bratty bf
he'll joke with you back but sometimes he'll get upset
so you'll need to pacify him
preferably with candy
when you both get into deep talks he needs to at least have some form of skinship
either by holding your hand or leaning his head on your shoulder
or both
so if he's upset just sit with him and everything will be okay again

reblogs appreciated!

If they're not doing a reboot where they're married, and Henry gets to live happily in England with his two dads and go to a better school than he could go to Kansas???? then why are they showing us this?
APPLE TV EXPLAIN!!
Is that not what happened....?
Must've just been in my head, damn. 😛
OK. Here is my pitch to Apple to make it happen (because is just makes sense):
Why do the bit about Henry acting out and bullying a kid?
Why have Henry failing science (scandal!)?
To me, that should have nudged them in the direction of 'maybe he would be better at a new school in England?' rather than 'he'll be fine just as soon as Ted returns to Kansas'.
Then we have the whole Dr. Jacob of it all... they were clearly hinting at his and Michelle's relationship breaking down (thank god. I can't even go into how much that angered me). To me, that was freeing her of her ties to Kansas so she could move with Henry to England. But instead they just kind of maybe left it a bit ambiguous. Are we supposed to believe that Ted and Michelle would ever get back together? Because no.
Also, it was clear that Henry didn't really like him and would benefit from being closer to his Uncle Beard (ugh that bit outside of the pub with them two absolutely got me 😭)
There's also Dottie. Now, I will admit that that episode fucked me up a little (yay, mums...), so I have only rewatched it once, but if I were Ted her attempt at manipulation would have just made me want to get Henry away from her, so even more reason to bring him to England.
Now Ted:
He's doing better. Ok, not amazing, but he is getting regualr thearapy and he can control his panic attacks
He knows the offside rule. He (re)invents Total Football. He is finally understanding the sport he came over to coach.
He is starting to use British terminology for things! He's acclimatised! Honestly, if he'd been there any longer, he'd have been drinking tea.
They specifically show him interacting with his neighbours and the community.
And then you tear him away from all of that. It is beyond cruel.
Also, even though Sassy was not right for him at all, he was maybe starting to show that he could move on from Michelle and let someone else into his life. (I do not have enough time to lay out the Bi Ted agenda, I'm sure people have done excellent metas about it, but let's just say the Bi Triangles will haunt me forever.)
Which leads us to Trent.
I am definitely missing things because I'm just rattling this off the top of my head, but:
Are we just going to forget that Trent got fired for Ted? And then following his bliss lead him straight to Richmond to write a love letter book about Ted.
What was the whole thing about the right idea just sitting behind a couple of the wrong ones?? In the red string of fate episode, no less!
Whatever was going in during Girl Talk with Rebecca.
Why did Ted tell Henry that it was "good to have people in your life that are excited to be around you" literally the episode after Trent was SO EXCITED about Total Football and how Ted got them there. Like. Seriously.
TRENT’S LITTLE FINGER STICKING OUT IN THE RED STRING OF FATE BIT THAT WAS POINTING DIRECTLY TO THE RED STRIPES ON TED'S JACKET ahem.
Trenthouse magazine. TRENTHOUSE MAGAZINE.
The Robert Redford/Dustin Hoffman thing. Followed by a sodding wink.
And then there's the fact they are both middle aged single dads who have so much baggage. They get one another.
Finally. Because this is turning into a bloody essay. The ending. Ted was FOR SURE asleep and dreaming at the end. I don't give a fuck what Brendan said.
You can't get that close to Stonehenge, it all looked too fake, there's no way Ted wouldn't be there, Jane needs to get in the bin.
How did Sam manage to get into the Nigerian team? (Don't get me wrong, I desperately wanted that for him, but it seemed like it was never going to happen??)
Ted thinks Trent will agree to change the book's title, and even dreams up someone he knows (Shannon) to get a copy singed.
OH AND THE GLASSES. Trent has new glasses. Why? Because Ted doesn't want to imagine him with the ones from before because the first thing he said to Trent was a compliment about the glasses.
Basically, what I'm saying. Is that that is what makes most sense from the ending. HOWEVER, Apple TV, if you are convinced it was all real, here are some ways you can keep that ending (more or less) and still have the Romcommunism ending we deserved that will lead to you picking up this reboot idea:
Ted goes back, gets a final copy of The Richmond Way, the dedication says something about how Trent changed the title because he asked, but it was always about Ted, of course it was. Ted realises his huge mistake. (Maybe he goes to rush to the airport, only to find Trent standing outside his door.)
Trent didn't say goodbye to Ted because he was already on a flight to Kansas to wait for him with a sign that says 'Coach Lasso from England". (OK, this doesn't quite fit with the ending, but you know it's a cute AF idea so shhh)
Trent is singing copies of his book and asks who it's for without looking up and just here's Ted say his name.
In all these scenarios someone says "Is this a fucking joke?" END.
And now you are ready to start your spin off/reboot/series 4 with the footage of Jason and Jimmy at the Emmys. You're welcome.
You can have all of these ideas for free (plus whatever other headcanons you get out of me), Apple TV, if you let me play one of the minimal acting required background players in the AFC Richmond Women's team (Because that is a part of the finale i can get behind and I have credentials if you need to verify I can actually play)

Ok, to preface
this spawned from the Kirby movie poll and was way too long to be a reply so I'm putting it here. It's very long, you can ignore this if you want, I just had to put this somewhere and I figured as a fellow Kirby fan you might enjoy my crazed ranting.
My original comment:
Imo crystal shards would make for the best adaption because it hits all the right notes that could make good movie:
-squad of loveable and dynamic characters
-premise with a clear goal
-iconic locations
-incredible final boss
-ending without any loose ends
Return to Dreamland (for a movie adaptation) is iffy because I can't imagine any voice for Magolor that doesn't sound absolutely cursed, and I feel like the ending doesn't work as well in a movie format...
(And that's where the original comment ended. I then proceeded to go completely off the rails and wrote like a whole essay on a random concept that will never happen)
(Spoilers for Return to Dreamland Deluxe below)
...UNLESS- hear me out- what if they adapted the bad ending from the True Arena. Not only could this be done in such a way that it is interesting for people who already know the story, but people who don't know the story already or don't pick up on the whole possession aspect still get a conclusion. To them it would feel like an epic battle and though they might question why it feels sad/desperate or why it seems like it's not a true victory, there isn't the same feeling of "where did magolor get yeeted to". (I mean there is- but like, not in the same vein, they could even make the portal at the end more subtle if they wanted) Also just imagine being at the climax of the movie as a kirby fan and all the sudden you notice something is different.. familiar.. and then BOOM Magolor Soul. Perhaps the Magolor battle happens like normal but then once the characters beat the regular boss fight instead of ending it transitions to the eyeless phase of Magolor Soul. I'm not sure exactly how it would work out pacing wise. I also have no idea how they would choose to write the ending, but this leaves room for them to write an ending that is slightly different. Plus it could end on a bittersweet tone (which is like, my personal favorite type of ending.)
I think as a representation of the Kirby franchise this would actually work really well because you have a lot of staples of the modern Kirby games
-the dream quartet/dream team entirely present (something that crystal shards would be missing)
-A story with a relatively tame beginning that ramps up a whole lot towards the end
-Dreamland/Popstar as a primary setting (not necessarily a staple of modern Kirby but important for getting the audience to care about the world Kirby & co. are protecting especially if it's the first Kirby movie)
-A soul boss
-Another Dimension
-Mentions of the ancients
-A tragedy (I mean we've gotten a few happy endings but there is still tragedy that occurs along the way)
-A what if/alternate universe scenario
Finally, and this is the last point I swear! Doing this would clearly set the movie in an alternate timeline that can't interfere with the canon of the games. Which would make the movie a lot more enjoyable as a fan because even if it's "canon" it's not in the same timeline/universe. Much like the "what if" modes it can provide more context/substance to the main story without ever taking place in the main universe.
Anyways, that's it. Thank you for coming to my TED talk
Context: The Kirby Movie Poll
Anon this is so cool!! :0 /pos
Mod is obsessing over this- thank you for sharing this with them! :D /pos

Advice
Ted has some words of advice for Remus before he goes on the run.
AO3
He finds it five days after his return. The house is tense, Andromeda won’t speak to him. He supposes that’s better than hexing him, a temptation he is sure he sees run across her face every time she looks at him. Dora bristles with every passive aggressive aside from her mother, but he begs her to leave it be. He knows how lucky he is to have his wife’s forgiveness. He understands why he doesn’t have Andromeda’s.
So he starts spending his time in the garden. At first he reads, the Tonks' house is not short of books. Sometimes it’s one of the many healing textbooks that graced the shelves of the living room, a novel found stuffed in Dora’s bedside table that he teases her about later that night as they lie in bed together, and one fascinating afternoon he finds an essay on the wolfsbane potion, covered with elegant handwriting on ways it might be improved.
He reads until he notices that the gardens look dry, so he waters them. Then he pulls out the weeds that are encroaching on the flutterby bush. It’s when he decides to replant the Chinese chomping cabbage that he steps into the shed in search of gardening gloves and is taken aback by what he finds there.
It’s in pieces, but there’s no mistaking it. Logically he knew that it was here. He knew that Harry and Hagrid had crash landed in the garden and taken a portkey to The Burrow, but he hadn’t considered what had become of it after that.
He’s not sure how long he spends on that first day, just sitting in the small, dusty shed, a flying motorbike in pieces before him. Old memories whirling through his mind, ghosts of a time long past, when the most important thing was cleverness and bravery.
He stays there until he hears Dora calling him with a slight tinge of panic in her voice. The relief on her face when he appears twisting like a knife in his gut. He vows to himself, like he has done every day since he returned, that he will never leave her again.
After that, he spends his days in the little shed. Cleaning the pieces, putting together what he can. The bike had mostly been James and Sirius’ project, with Lily stepping in to fix the spell theory, making sure they didn’t blow themselves up.
Sirius accepts the joint from Peter, but doesn’t pause in his argument with Lily. ‘Where’s the art, Evans? The finesse!’
Lily’s laugh rings out from where she is tucked against James’ side. ‘Finesse? You’ve used Bombarda to trigger the combustive reactions!’
Dora joins him sometimes, chattering away as she smooths away dents in the metal. Sometimes he tells her stories about them, light, funny stories of pranks and detentions. Friends who would do anything for each other. He stays away from the darker times, avoids talking about another pregnancy in another war and the terror they all felt towards the end. It’s coming. He knows they’ll need to go into hiding soon. A werewolf and the half blood daughter of a blood traitor won’t be left alone. He lies awake at night, his brain drawing awful parallels. But he never speaks about it with her, he won’t burden her with this.
The full moon is a particularly bad one, even with the wolfsbane that Andromeda silently hands him. He wonders if it’s the memories that haunt him, or the fear or what’s to come. Either way, he spends days in bed afterwards, his bones aching as they recover. Dora joins him, her morning sickness worse than usual, and he tries not to think about what that might mean.
He knows that he won’t be able to repair the bike on his own. The nights of obsessing over plans were too long ago, and he couldn’t remember what Lily did to solve Hyslops Third Law of Transportation.
But still, each morning he gets up and goes to the shed, repairing what he can, and making notes of what he thinks needs to be done. It’s on one of those mornings that Ted finds him.
Ted had followed his daughter's lead upon Remus’ return, once Dora forgave Remus, so did he. ‘Too many other things to worry about.’ He’d said early on when he and Remus were clearing the table after dinner one night.
‘Death Eaters have been spotted in the neighbourhood.’ He says without preamble, leaning against the little workbench. It creaks under his weight, but holds firm. ‘I’ll be leaving in the morning.
The Muggleborn Registration. It had been looming over their heads for weeks, the unspoken knowledge that Ted would be leaving them soon. He’d overheard Ted and Andromeda’s arguments, going round in circles over whether or not she should go with him (she wanted to, he wanted her to stay).
Remus stands, brushing the dust off his hands. ‘You’re sure?’
Teds nods tightly. Remus knows the last thing he wants to do is leave his wife and daughter, and that they want him to leave even less. The fact was that Ted needed to go, and even without one being pregnant and another needing a reliable source of wolfsbane, four people would make it harder to slip away.
But Ted hasn’t come just to give him that news.
‘You’re not the husband we imagined for Dora.’ He begins, Remus tries to speak, though to say what, he isn’t sure, but stops when Ted holds up his hand. ‘But I wasn’t the husband Andromeda’s family wanted for her, and I like to think things turned out pretty well.’
‘Ted, I–’
‘Yes, you’ve made mistakes. I know you were scared, and I know you don’t think you’re good enough for her. But I’m going to tell you the one thing I think you need to hear. It doesn’t matter.’ Remus wants to argue, to tell him how wrong he is. Of course it matters. But Ted pushes on.
‘It doesn’t matter because she chose you. For better or worse, you’re the man that she wanted. She went into this relationship knowing full well who you were, you didn’t trick her, or lie to her.’
‘She deserves better than me.’ The words come out fiercer than he intended, but Ted doesn’t snap back.
‘Yes, she does.’ Ted’s calm agreement shocks him, and the anger that had started to simmer in Remus’ chest fades as quickly as it appeared. ‘But she doesn’t care. So your job is simple now. You stick around. You be there for her, and for my grandbaby, and you keep them safe.’
Silence rings through the shed as Remus nods firmly. ‘I will.’ He says.
‘Good.’ Ted replies, an amused twinkle in his eyes, one that Remus has seen time and again on his wife. ‘Because Andromeda won’t make it easy on you.’
They share a grin for a moment before Ted’s face turns serious. ‘This is going to be hard for her.’ He turns away for a moment, picking up a pair of pliers from the bench, turning them over in his hands. ‘Hard for both of us.’ He says in a way that makes Remus think he didn’t mean to say that out loud.
They fall silent again, and Remus, unsure what to say, crouches down to fidget with a part of the bike that he has very little clue about the function of.
Ted clears his throat. ‘I was wondering,’ He rests the pliers on the bench and looks back at Remus. ’Perhaps it would be better if I say my goodbyes to Dora this afternoon.’
Remus looks up, confused for a moment, but understanding quickly dawns and he stands.
‘Ah,’ He says awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. ‘Yes, well I was thinking of taking the bike to Arthur. He has more experience with this sort of thing than I do. And Molly would never forgive me if I didn’t bring Dora along.’
Ted claps him on the shoulder with a grateful smile. ‘You’re a good man, Remus Lupin.’

Okay, all...I promised an essay about this quest, so here it is!
In this TED talk, I will explain why this quest -- in direct opposition to what Jam City clearly intended -- actually has made me feel less sympathy for Ismelda Murk as a character, rather than more.
Tumblr media
Before we get started, though, a disclaimer -- if you like Ismelda as a character, then that’s cool! She’s just personally my least favorite character in the game Hogwarts Mystery, largely because of the ways I think the game’s writers have tried and failed to soften her, to my personal satisfaction. (This sidequest included.) I will try very hard to keep this analysis reasonable and not needlessly “bash-y,” but just be aware going in that this is going to be very Ismelda-critical.
So for those of you who don’t know the set-up for this quest, basically Ismelda’s obnoxious and self-absorbed older sister Annalena is tasked by the Ministry of Magic to help organize a festival in Hogsmeade showcasing booths from the various businesses like the Three Broomsticks and Zonko’s. Ismelda -- out of a long-held resentment toward her “perfect” sister -- sabotages the festival and then tries to frame Annalena for the damage when MC does their own investigation into the matter.
MC, of course, figures out the truth when they come across a letter from Annalena to Ismelda confirming that they’re sisters and that Ismelda knew she was hosting the festival, which Ismelda accidentally left on one of the long tables in the Great Hall. Then MC confronts Ismelda at the Hog’s Head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the record, Ismelda, it’s only opening a letter addressed to someone else that’s considered a crime. If the letter is already open, which this letter was, then there’s really nothing saying you can’t read it. And even in cases where you open a letter by accident (which you could try to apply to the whole “Aparecium” thing -- though really, you could also compare it to emails, which actually aren’t protected under the law in the same way: you can read other people’s emails), you’re protected from criminal prosecution. It might be a bit rude for MC to have read your letter, but considering you left that letter behind and it was written on official Ministry letterhead when a Ministry witch was getting accused of destroying people’s property, there’s a perfectly innocent explanation about why someone would read it.
But yes, on that note -- Annalena Gleam (nee Murk) was accused of destroying other people’s property. Something that instead was done by Ismelda, all in an attempt to tear down her sister.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s the thing, though. Being mad at your sister? Fair. Resenting that she got all your parents’ attention when you were growing up? Justified. Wanting to get back at your sister for how badly she’s treated you? Understandable.
But here’s the problem -- THIS is how you went about it, Ismelda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You destroyed other people’s property.
The festival wasn’t just your sister’s thing -- it involved the entire community of Hogsmeade. All of the businesses in the area invested time and money into the event, both of which they now have to invest twice over, because you destroyed their wares and stalls. If you want to pay your sister back for treating you badly, fine, but by sabotaging the festival, you roped innocent people who had done NOTHING to you into this stupid feud you have with Annalena, punishing them for absolutely no reason at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fortunately Ismelda does work to clean up the damage she’s done, but only AFTER being threatened by MC that they’ll tell Dumbledore if she doesn’t. This pretty much proves that Ismelda truly doesn’t care how much trouble she caused everyone else -- how unsettled and possibly scared the residents of Hogsmeade would be by someone trashing their festival grounds, how much money the business owners would’ve lost, how many people would be disappointed that the festival couldn’t go on...none of that mattered to Ismelda. All that she saw or cared about was that it would give her the chance to make Annalena look bad. Sure, it might ruin her whole career and endanger her financial livelihood, but hey, at least you got to take some petty revenge for your sister being a b*tch when you were kids, right, Ismelda?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll be fair, though -- Annalena is a pretty awful sister. She literally claimed she was an only child around her peers, just to try to be better liked.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even that “attempt” to mend fences in her letter to Ismelda really came across as very condescending and self-absorbed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I frankly wouldn’t blame Ismelda at all for not wanting to make amends with Annalena. One doesn’t even really have to make up with one’s family members, if they don’t want to. Sometimes relationships truly can’t be saved or shouldn’t be saved, regardless of how we might feel about it. But regardless of whether or not the Murk sisters can come together, that’s THEIR business. They should not be involving innocent bystanders in their drama. MC admittedly does tend to get involved in a lot of stuff that really isn’t their business purely due to the game’s plot, but that’s not what happened here. Ismelda roped innocent people into her feud with Annalena, and that’s just not acceptable. So forgive me if I see Ismelda trying to avoid apologizing at first by pulling crap like this --
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-- and have to bury my face in my pillow and scream because “SHE DIDN’T MAKE YOU DO A DAMN THING, ISMELDA -- TAKE SOME GODDAMN RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS, YOU SELFISH TWIT.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ugh!! 😣
Look -- as I said, I do truly feel for Ismelda to the extent that Annalena should not have treated her that way, when they were young. But if Ismelda truly wanted to get proper revenge on Annalena, then the best approach would be to succeed in her own way: to outshine Annalena on her own merits, and also go “screw my sister” and cut her out of your life if she’s really such a toxic influence. Because let’s be honest, in the end, Ismelda’s plan was never going to work. No Ministry official or professor would’ve believed Ismelda’s version of events over Annalena’s, especially since those people would know Annalena and Ismelda were sisters. Her lies only worked with MC and crew until they confirmed that fact. And yeah, Ismelda, clearly when your plan was revealed, it would only serve to make you look even worse, victimizing your own sister as well as everyone else in Hogsmeade. So yeah -- way to just make things even harder for yourself.
In conclusion, Ismelda Murk sadly remains a character I just cannot sympathize with, regardless of how Jam City has tried to soften me to her.
We see she has a crush on Barnaby and doesn’t think he’ll ever like her. ...Then she decides to try to take away all chance for him to give consent by almost drugging him with a Love Potion.
We see she’s one of the few who actually reacts excitedly to what she sees in the Mirror of Erised. ...Then we find out her greatest desire is telling people what to do and them doing it without question.
We see her sister Annalena was objectively pretty awful to her as a kid and she resents that she’s always been stuck in her shadow. ...Then she almost ruins everything for everyone else in an ill-conceived, thoroughly selfish attempt to hurt Annalena’s career and Annalena by extension.
Sorry, Jam City -- but maybe the next time you want to try to give me a reason to sympathize with Ismelda, you could do it by finishing up that awesome development you laid out for her through her relationship with Beatrice (and by extension Penny), rather than just prove once again that this girl upholds the selfish, callous, mean-spirited Slytherin stereotype that we’re all sick of at this point? We know Ismelda can care about people other than herself -- let’s show more of that, please.

One more thing
...has struck me about the phrasing I’ve seen from people who have outsized reactions to Nate as a character (which I haven’t seen a TON of because I’ve been blocking people on the regular in the Ted Lasso fandom; at this point my filter is already pretty thorough).
Which is that they all sound exactly like him. The vivid fantasies about how he’ll be humiliated, the desire to have him utterly destroyed, the deliberate cruelty in talking about his looks or his talent, the imagined personal grievance, the sense that he doesn’t deserve anything good — all of that is behavior that we saw from Nate in the second season (and a little bit in the first).
Nate’s a fictional character; he’s not real, and everything he does has been written by a team of very talented writers and acted by a staggeringly talented performer. So in a very real, Doylist way, Nate cannot control his actions.
Real people, on the other hand, can very much control their actions. Nobody has to write long disturbing essays about how they want Nate to be utterly reduced to nothing with no job or friends or love from anyone. You don’t have to show the nonwhite people in this fandom that you’ll forgive the white characters in a heartbeat but wish death on one of the only nonwhite characters in the whole show. You can discuss Nate and what he’s done without resorting to the kind of vitriol that so often leaks over the line into vitriol against real people.

Hiii!! Your fanfics are soo amazing! Can you write one where the reader is new to a school and kind of shy but Ted takes notice of her and they become friends and/or date??? Thank youuu <3
Essay
Ted Nivison x reader [she/her used]
I’m sorry this came out so late! I totally blanked! I really hope you enjoy it!
———
“Open your books please.” y/n sifted through the pages of her paperback library book. “For today we’ll be working in partners. Your assignment is to communicate the importance of your book to an assigned partner—No you don’t get to pick. You’ve been assigned based on similarities to the two books. So to start…”
y/n sat silently in her seat. Her classmates began mooning around the classroom, sorting themselves with their partners, but she didn’t know anybody. y/n had only joined the school a week prior, leaving her little time to get meet anybody. Thankfully her English book was easy. The assignment had been to read a children’s novel and write an essay. It was an assignment she could perfectly do herself, so she didn’t understand why the English teacher was having her do partner work.
“Hey you’re y/n, right?” An incredibly tall high schooler stood over the desk. “I’m Ted.”
“H-Hi. Uh- book?”
“My book?” Ted took the seat next to her, setting his backpack on the dark carpet and his notebooks on the desktop. “I’m reading Bridge to Terabithia. Well, re-reading. I think most of these books I’ve already read.”
She looked down at the book in her hands. “I-I guess that makes sense for this book.”
“What do you-? Orbiting Jupiter? Oh yeah I read that a few years ago.”
“I don’t think I’ve read it before.”
“It’s good, it’s just sad.” Ted opened his spiral notebook, flipping in a few pages. “So, similarities?”
“R-right. Uhm. I’m about halfway through it, but it’s about the kid who’s family fosters Joseph.”
“Yeah. Have you read Bridge to Terabithia before?” She nodded her head, watching as Ted’s fingers fiddled with his pen. “So we both know she dies. Oh but you haven’t finished your book.”
“Y-Yeah. Uh. They said I could finish it this week but-“
“No don’t worry about it. Just tell me when you finish it.” Ted smiled sweetly, poking at the book that sat on y/n’s desk. “I want to know what you think.”
———
y/n furiously shut her book, resting her head in hands. She waited a moment, before going back to finish the last two pages. The book was devastating, but she’d be damned if it wasn’t good.
As she closed the book for the last time, she heard the library door open. Looking up, she saw Ted standing at the front desk of the library. He said something to the librarian, placing a book on the desk and turning around. He met eyes with y/n, smiling widely as he wade his way over.
“Hey! How’s the book?” Ted stood over her still, smiling downwards to her.
“I-It— Joseph—? I l-like it.”
“Good! I’ll see you in class tomorrow then?” y/n nodded to the boy and he walked away, leaving the library all together. She turned back to her work, burying her burning face in her hands. She wasn’t sure what it was but something about her sudden project partner made her loose and social skill she already had.
———
“Today we’ll be working in partners again. I’ll be up here if you have any questions but I expect your essays by next week.” The teacher shuffled some papers as they sat down. y/n waited expectantly, rearranging her pencils, but Ted didn’t come. She flipped through the pages of her notebooks tapping at the desk with a mechanical pencil nervously. She didn’t know anyone else, it wasn’t like she could ask where Ted was.
“Hey sorry.” Ted rushed over to the desk next to her, setting his bag on the table. “I was in the office. But how far are you?”
“D-Done!”
“Oh sick!” Ted threw open his notebook, looking for a page. “Okay tell me all your thoughts. Joseph, Jupiter, all of it.”
Ted stared at her, smiling as he gestured to the book. She blinked, trying to gather words. “Well- I- J-Joseph-“
“Hey. It’s okay.” Ted reached over and set a hand near hers in a comforting manner. y/n looked downwards, trying to hide the heat rising to her face. “Are you nervous?”
“I-I just— I don’t know-“
“It’s okay. I know the book.” Ted smiled sweetly, taking his hand back to reach into a pencil bag. “We’ve got this.”
———
A week later, y/n sat at her desk staring at the perfect grade she got on her essay. Everyone in the class around her was chatting while packing up their bags. Spring break was in five minutes, and she’d still done absolutely nothing but this English essay before then.
“How’s the reading?” Ted slid into the free desk space he usually sat in, resting nothing but his arms on the flat surface.
“Good.” She’d gotten more confident in talking to Ted. “I got a good grade.”
“Nice.” Ted smiled, looking down as he cuddled with his fingers. “Any plans for the break?”
“No. I didn’t really meet anyone yet and all I have are my parents so.” y/n shrugged, folding up the essay in her notebook.
“Well, here.” Ted handed her a note card with a phone number written on it. “You met me.”
“You want to hang out with me?” She pulled out her phone, already entering the number.
“I mean, yeah. I really like you and I like talking to you.” Ted smiled at her, blushing lightly. “What do you think?”
“Absolutely!” The bell rang and y/n watched Ted stand up, toss his bag over his shoulder, and extend a hand out to her.
“Come on. Let me walk you out.”
y/n stood up and took Ted’s hand in hers as they walked from the school.

Concepts that Megamind (2010) represented incredibly well but got no attention for
Societal expectations and their traumatic effects on adults and children alike ("I'm the bad guy. I don't save the day, I don't fly off into the sunset, and I don't get the girl.")
The lasting effects of bullying and being bullied (such as: self-consciousness, depression, anxiety, and just general unhappiness)
Treating others differently based on physical differences (commonly grouped into the broader term of racism, though it isn't necessarily the same thing)
And the consequences of such behavior never being corrected until it's too late
Nature vs nurture
The horror of incels/nice guys, and the daily struggle that they bring to women. Especially when, in this society, there's a big chance that the woman would just be accused of "overreacting" and "getting too emotional" when she reports it to someone
Every single character in this movie has absorbed some bad concept into their personality (even innocent little Minion), and they can't even really be blamed. It's the same for basically everyone in real life, too, which is pretty sad. Its just that humanity itself has somehow gotten so bad that these ideas have become justified, and nobody really knows any better until its way too late.
And now for some quotes that explain the general idea much better than i ever could in my own words
"There's a benefit to losing: you get to learn from your mistakes."
"Maybe I don't want to be the bad guy anymore!"
"Funny; I guess destiny is not the path given to us, but the path we choose for ourselves."
"Even the most heartfelt belief can be corroded over time!"
"Sorry, sorry! He's just not used to positive feedback!"
I know the last two were used for comedic purposes, but they're actually pretty meaningful when you look closely
Bonus: Megamind: The Button of Doom
Anxiety
More anxiety
All the anxiety
Fearing not doing something correctly, and trying to copy someone else so you don't fuck it up (Ex: a newbie artist copying someone's art because they don't think people would like their art style)
Did i mention anxiety
Embracing yourself for who you are and what you've done, even if you've done some pretty bad things in your past
Speaking of past, i feel like Megamind fighting his old evil robot and winning by making his big realization about being himself is a metaphor about fighting the demons of his past. The robot would be representing Megamind's past, the villainy and the bullying and all, and his victory is supposed to represent him starting over, and understanding that he doesn't have to be the evil alien screw-up anymore. He has a choice, now, a chance to be what he truly wants to be, and this first victory of his is telling us that he's sure as hell gonna take it. It's amazing how that all works out, isn't it?
TL;DR: Megamind is incredible and speaks on a lot of ignored problems that you rarely see represented in movies made for the demographic that Dreamworks aims to entertain. Okay thanks for coming to my ted talk bye
(I was planning on making a much more detailed version of this but i dont feel like writing the 3 page essay required to fully describe my thoughts about this awesome movie so you can have this)

a note on color - how line of duty series 6 uses wardrobe to frame narrative (pt 1)
author’s note: this began as a personal observation on the use of cool tones for AC-12 and warm tones in opposition to AC-12, and evolved into a spreadsheet tracking most every outfit 3 of the 4 leads wear in every episode (through 6).
Why Jo, Kate, and Steve?
Jo: This is ultimately a rumination on Jo and her character, and the non-textual ways the show indicates Jo’s feelings, actions, and allegiances.
Kate: Jo’s major emotional connection in the series. Kate’s wardrobe often mirrors Jo’s in both style and color, and Kate’s wardrobe also gives hints to Jo’s true identity, while also reminding the audience of her allegiance with AC-12 (in both principles and action)
Steve: As the face of AC-12 in many ways (especially in this season, whereas past seasons that would’ve been Kate), Steve’s wardrobe is the control. He is firmly planted as an anti-corruption officer, is an ally of Kate, and he acts as Jo’s foil.
Why not Hastings?: Lord knows I love Ted, but the man really only ever wears his uniform (which is an entirely different essay about his views of the police force, ‘bent coppers’, and the ‘bad apples’ view of addressing police misconduct)
Some of the colors folks wear are difficult to quantify - I note circumstances where a shirt or sweater could be interpreted as multiple colors, and some instances where I believe that open interpretation is intentional. To be incredibly simplistic for how I coded the colors, cool tones are the good guys, and warm tones are the bad guys. Where possible, I have included reference images for the outfits I’m discussing (low quality screencaps ahead).
It took me some time to choose the organization of this essay, but ultimately there’s only one way to really do it - scene to scene. So buckle in, cause this is a doozy. I’m posting just episode 1 today, and then plan to post analyses breaking down the other episodes through Saturday. Essay under the cut.
DISCLAIMER: I’m American, so there’s likely something about the UK that I miss here. Alas, we’ll persevere. I barely edited this because I’m no longer a student and don’t have that kind of time. Also, I already wrote one dissertation and I refused to admit I wrote another one.
METHODOLOGY
To kick off, I went through and looked at every outfit worn by Jo Davidson and Kate Fleming, and most worn by Steve Arnott, in series 6. Steve acts as my control because he begins and ends my sample as a working member of AC-12, which for the purposes of this narrative represents police who are not corrupt. He is exclusively shown in cool tones in every scene I discuss here. Kate serves to bridge that gap in analysis between Jo and Steve - she is anti-corruption through and through, but she is no longer a member of AC-12, and she also has a close relationship with Jo, which is clearly romantic in tone. Kate often wears cool tones and white, but the occasional brown, orange, and green pop up (hold that thought on green). Jo is my main focus of my analysis, because I believe her wardrobe is most clearly impacted by the struggle between internal desires and external pressures. She wears a range of colors, but most frequently it is a combination of warm and cool tones. For the purpose of this analysis, black is considered a warm tone, white is both cool and absent allegiance, and grey is considered a cool tone.
THESIS
Since the first episode of series 6, Line of Duty has used color to indicate that Jo Davidson is not bent by aligning her with the tone of AC-12 as a whole and Kate Fleming specifically. TL;DR: The show has used wardrobe to tell us that Jo is not (intentionally) bent from the beginning.
Jo isn’t ‘bent’ in that she doesn’t want to be corrupt, but she’s forced to be. Surrounded on all sides by the OCG because of her uncle/father, Tommy Hunter, Jo therefore has no choice but to follow OCG orders for fear for her life. The show works to show us this visually in a few ways. Cool tones, representing ‘justice’ through AC-12, are seen throughout her screen time, but they are often peppered with warm tones, representing corruption and the OCG. This is true of her wardrobe overall, but is perhaps most succinctly demonstrated in her apartment. Keep these thoughts in mind as I break down each outfit.
EPISODE 1
There are points where the wardrobe informs us of things that the text directly contradicts. For instance, in the opening scene of episode 1, Jo arrives at the Hill wearing a black coat over a dark grey turtleneck, and is shown talking to Lomax about a new lead in the Gail Vella murder investigation. She is then shown talking to Buckells about this lead, an unknown CHIS who claims to have spoken with a man named Ross Turner who claimed to have killed Gail. The interaction seems innocuous, and Buckells denies permission for a raid on Turner’s home, but look more carefully at the dialogue here. Jo is manipulating Buckells by presenting him with information about the source, including that he was a sex worker and speculating on his potential drug use. These two factors are what makes Buckells hesitate, and he ultimately stops the raid from being carried out that night.
Tumblr media
While Jo in this scene seems to push Buckells to give permission for the operation, Jo’s dark wardrobe is telling the audience that something else is happening on another level here. We learn later that Jo would take advantage of Buckells baser instincts and desire for upward advancement in order to manipulate him, which is what she does in this scene. She specifically mentions the CHIS’s sex work and the potential drug use because she knows Buckells will worry about the reliability of the witness and want more to go off of, hence cancelling the operation. Jo’s dark clothes hint at her manipulation of Buckells while the audience is not yet clued in.
The next time we see Jo during the team briefing about Ross Turner is also the first time we get a hint at the fliration between her and Kate. Jo’s “dirty stop-out” line and Kate’s “glass houses, boss” response, coupled with Jo’s smile that she hides by looking down show a clear shift in tone. The black jacket is removed, and she’s wearing a grey turtleneck. Jo is slightly more at ease here, enjoying the easy banter. Meanwhile, Kate is wearing a cream/light brown sweater, our first visual clue of her separation from AC-12 and her connection to Jo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note here that Jo’s black jacket was on top of her grey turtleneck, and could be removed. The turtleneck, a very modest and in some ways restrictive top, also serves as an armor Jo wears to brace herself against her own actions.
When the operation to arrest Ross Turner is approved, Jo again dons a black jacket under her body armor, while Kate wears a green coat under her body armor. Jo putting on the black jacket is symbolic of how she is about to waylay the team with the staged armed robbery at the bookie, allowing time for the OCG to replace Owen Banks with Terry Boyle. Kate’s green coat is symbolic of her mixed allegiances between AC-12’s blue and Jo’s yellow.
Later, when debriefing the operation with Lomax and discussing the importance of learning the CHIS’s identity, Jo and Kate are back to the grey and cream sweaters they were wearing earlier. Their banter is also back with Kate’s “great minds” line, demonstrating their comfort and also telling the audience these two women are in sync with one another.
Immediately after this series of scenes, we see Steve for the first time. His first scene is at AC-12, wearing a grey suit, white shirt, and red tie, when he is notified that Farida Jatri is there to see him. We learn in the next scene, where Steve is in a blue suit with a blue shirt and blue tie, that Farida brought her concerns about Jo to AC-12, particularly about the odd armed robbery that Jo spotted. He asks Hastings for permission to look into it further, which is granted. The all blue outfit on Steve represents his desire to root out potential corruption in this complaint. He continues to wear this outfit for most of the episode when dealing with the investigation and MIT.
Tumblr media
(Note: there’s an interlude scene here of the MIT crew in crime scene suits at Terry’s, but I’m not including that here.)
We next see Jo with Lomax, interrogating a frightened Terry Boyle, while Kate watches the video feed of the interview. Jo is wearing another grey turtleneck, but this time is wearing a grey jacket, while Kate watches on with a cream oversized sweater. The interview with Terry goes nowhere for the most part, as he refuses to comment, which seems to be to Jo’s relief. Kate, however, clearly isn’t done.
Donned in a green mockneck and navy suit, Kate visits the crime scene at Terry’s apartment again. This green top still aligns her with both AC-12 and Jo, but the navy suit serves as a reminder that she doesn’t think the MIT has the full story on Terry Boyle.
Later, we see Kate in the same outfit debriefing Jo on the new information at the crime scene, namely that there is no new information because it’s been wiped clean. Jo is wearing a grey suit jacket, brown sweater, and a white shirt. Both agree that Terry isn’t a solid suspect, and want the ID of the CHIS in order to confirm that he’s the man identified as Ross Turner. Jo’s layering here is interesting - cool tone, warm tone, cool tone. She agrees with Kate externally, she knows Terry is in the frame for Vella’s murder, and she doesn’t feel comfortable pursuing Terry as a suspect she knows is innocent.
They then visit the CHIS’s handler, who refuses to give up his informant’s ID, but reveals to Kate that he is concerned about the CHIS’s welfare. Kate is wearing a long navy coat, while Jo is wearing a long grey coat with a blue and orange scarf. Kate wants to know the CHIS’s ID to genuinely pursue justice, hence the blue, while Jo wants the CHIS’s ID for ostensibly the same reason, but for her, pursuing justice with the CHIS would also clear Terry’s name. Jo doesn’t want Terry to be punished because he’s innocent, but she also knows a negative ID on Terry will lead to trouble for her with the OCG.
Tumblr media
We see Jo in the same outfit minus outerwear in the next few scenes - when she is called into Buckell’s office and convinces him to put pressure on for the CHIS’s ID (while Kate watches), and later when Kate informs her that there was a surveillance gap on Terry Boyle’s flat due to the wrong authority being sought. Jo pushes Buckells and manipulates him to reveal the CHIS’s ID, and also blames him for the gap that she’s responsible for, hence the warm coloring of her sweater. Kate, meanwhile, is showing her allegiance to Jo by telling her about the gaffe, the green of her shirt being the visual representation of that act.
Tumblr media
Next we have a scene of Steve looking at CCTV of the armed robbery, and their suspicions are raised about the speed the convoy was traveling and the likelihood that Jo could have actually spotted it. Again, Steve is in an all blue outfit.
Back to our favorite murder investigators, Lomax, Jo, and Kate arrive on the scene of a murder victim which turns out to be their missing CHIS. Jo is dressed in a long grey coat, green sweater, and light blue shirt, while Kate is rocking a long navy coat, navy suit, and an orange and navy striped turtleneck. Later at MIT, Kate and Jo discuss the CHIS further, lamenting the loss of the only witness who could ID Terry as Ross Turner. Throughout this scene, Jatri is watching the two of them interact. Jatri then calls Steve, in a grey suit with a blue tie, and tells him she can no longer be an informant.
Round two of interviewing sweet Terry begins, with Jo in the same outfit and Kate watching on video, again in the same striped turtleneck. They all seem to think Terry is hiding something, but Kate seems taken aback at some of Jo’s lines of questioning (Vicky McClure, expert reactor) but is mostly saddened by Terry. Later, Steve meets with Kate outside of Hillside and they discuss his inquiry into Jo. She refuses to help, but gives him the name Carl Banks as someone to look into.
We then see Jo arrive at Farida’s house with a suitcase, moving out her final belongings after their breakup, where they have a row over Jo’s refusal to introduce Farida to her nonexistent family. After, Jo returns to her own apartment with its 18 dead bolts. Nearly the entire place is blue - the walls, the furniture, even the refrigerator. However, those warm tones pop up throughout - lemons on the counter, golden pillows in the living room, gold lights framing the picture of her mother. Jo at her heart is good and believes in justice, but she has been groomed and manipulated by the OCG into acting against her nature in the name of self-preservation. She is blue, but the pops of gold and yellow of the OCG catch the eye.
Tumblr media
The following scene shows Jo getting chewed out by Buckells in the briefing room in full view of the rest of MIT, again in the green sweater and blue shirt. Kate looks on in concern, still wearing the orange and navy striped sweater. Buckells storms out, and Jo rushes into the hallway. Kate follows quickly behind, asking after Jo, who vents her frustrations with the pressure to charge Terry with murder because she knows it isn’t right and wants to find real justice for Gail. The color choices in this scene are clear. Kate is wearing orange and navy, highlighting both her connection to Jo and her pursuit of justice. Jo is wearing green, combining the blue of her heart and the pollution of OCG yellow, with a light blue shirt, again highlighting her true self and alignment with Kate.
Tumblr media
This also highlights something we don’t learn until episode 6 - Jo wanted Kate on her team to keep her in check and be a barrier to the things the OCG was asking her to do. This includes the arrest of Terry Boyle. Jo specifically identifies several odd things about the recent evidence - and tells Kate that something doesn’t add up, essentially encouraging the DI to look into these inconsistencies further. This is her way of looking for help when she still feels trapped in many ways.
Of course, no analysis of this scene would be complete without mentioning the hand grab and subsequent hold. They’re gay, kids!
The final scene shows Jo watching as Terry Boyle is released and remanded to police bail, a look of relief on her face. Because yeah, she’s done a lot of bent things, but Jo isn’t bent.
Tumblr media
And that’s where the episode wraps.
Stay tuned for more wardrobe analysis tomorrow!

... I’m interested in legitimately gay Reese (I assume one piece of evidence is “look at what they’re doing and tell me you’re not gay”)
okay this is like 2 days late but this is why reese malcolminthemiddle is legitimately gay:
(side note: did anyone need a queer media thesis paper or something... I am willing to share lmao)
so none of this is like... rock solid evidence or anything but I need to believe at least one main character of a show is gay and/or trans to maintain interest and reese is the most plausible gay character. also it’s early 2000′s so he just gets a lot of vaguely homophobic jokes lmao
first of all, yes, the biggest piece of evidence he’s gay is those lines from that episode I quoted the other day--thinking malcolm is gay, he tries to show his support by giving him a gay porno: “’Naught Pool Boys 3!’ I watched 10 or 12 of these, and this one seems to have the most stuff you guys like.” and when malcolm says he isn’t gay, reese responds “Malcolm. Check out what those guys are doing in that movie, and THEN tell me you’re not gay.”-- so, 1) reese sat down and watched like a dozen gay porn movies to ““find a good one for his gay brother”” and 2) he thinks malcolm would reconsider his heterosexuality if he watched what was in that movie, implying that HE reconsidered his sexuality after watching that movie, or at the very least found it hot
in the same episode, the character tricking malcolm into thinking reese is gay lists the following as evidence: he obsesses over his hair and his looks, loves his gourmet cooking, has a bunch of magazines covered in comically muscular men, and that he’s angry and acts like a jerk because he’s “dealing with something weird and confusing.” now obviously, the obsession with hair/looks can be chalked up to the fact that he’s a teenage boy, and there’s nothing inherently gay about enjoying cooking. the dozen magazines of muscle-bound men could certainly be taken as gay evidence, though, and it IS established in the show that his entire bully persona is his way of masking his inner feelings and insecurities. there’s literally a whole episode where he & malcolm realize they have no friends because they act like little shits to push people away because they’re afraid of rejection and/or abandonment from their peers. they ostracize themselves before they can be ostracized by the other students at school. I could probably write a whole other essay on reese’s psyche tbqh lmao there’s a shocking amount there!!
of the brothers who are actually old enough to be attracted to girls (reese, malcolm, and francis), he shows the least interest. now bear with me here. you might be thinking, “well, yeah, it’s malcolm’s show, we’re not gonna see things from other people’s perspective!” but that is actually surprisingly untrue, the show is very much equally shown from each family members’ perspectives. starting about s2, when malcolm is in early middle school, he starts getting crushes on girls and pursuing them. francis goes after a few women in the first couple seasons and then marries a woman we see a lot throughout the show.
in the roughly... 130?? episodes I have watched so far, nearly all of reese’s “interest” in girls involve either: competition with malcolm, genuinely just liking her as a friend, or some completely ulterior motive. the only exception to this I can think of is in the early seasons where he has a crush on a cheerleader and tries to get on her good side by joining the cheerleading squad, which the writers clearly set up as a way to make gay jokes about reese. let me give you a few examples of his relationships with girls
the first relationship we see him in is with a “stupid girl” that malcolm tried (and failed) to date, and the main reason they get together is that they think on the same wavelength and genuinely seem to enjoy hanging out. they take breaks from their bro chats to make out every once in a while. eventually he gets her to break up with him because he doesn’t want to go to the school dance with her (he doesn’t want to go at all). years later, he’s dating some girl we meet for like 5 minutes, before he goes to confess to her that she’s the first girl he’s ever loved. she then breaks up with him. he’s sad, but taking it fairly well. he’s about to leave when he sees malcolm hiding under the bed, and learns that he stole his girlfriend. he then runs away to join the army. he was clearly MUCH more upset that his brother stole his girlfriend than he was that his girlfriend broke up with him. there are many more instances of him and malcolm competing for a girl’s affections, and he seems mostly motivated by the competition itself.
in addition to “stupid girl,” he also manufactures an “attraction” to his female army buddy in the last season. the premise of this episode is that his old army buddy (a girl he play-wrestles with and insults like he would his own brothers) comes to visit him, and malcolm convinces reese that she’s attracted to him, and that reese’s nervousness at learning that fact is proof he’s in love with her. there’s a misunderstanding where reese asks her if she has certain “feelings” and she says she does, but what she ACTUALLY means is that she has a crush on reese’s MOM. she’s a lesbian. reese later propositions her (saying he’s saved his virginity for this--he’s probably about 18 here), and when she says omg no im gay, he is HUGELY relieved they can go back to being friends. CLASSIC mlm/wlw friendship moment.
there’s an episode where these cute girls pick up reese (& nerds) to kiss in front of their boyfriends to make them jealous. reese is all for it, and when malcolm argues that it’s not worth his dignity and the beating he’ll get from the girl’s boyfriend, reese counters that that’s WHY he wants to do this--he’s completely invisible at school, and thinks getting beaten up for kissing some guy’s girlfriend will at least make him known around school. at no point does he indicate he’s actually attracted to this girl, and when it comes time to kiss her, he finds the weakest excuse to run away at the last minute.
im not gonna list all of these but there’s more lmao
the following is a random assortment of one-off gay jokes and out-of-context lines with gay reese implications, often homophobically bc its early 2000′s writing:
says “I’m gay” to a girl to give malcolm a better shot at her
(again in competition with malcolm) tries to flirt with a girl by spraying milk in her face as the punchline to a joke, which is. well. hm. self-sabotaging, to say the least!!
Reese: “Do you think it’s right to totally change who you are and turn your back on EVERYTHING you believe in, just to impress a hot guy??” [his dad gives a long, blank stare, before asking:] “...Burt Reynolds hot, or Sting hot?”
“YEAH I like clouds! I call them sky kittens :)” (I just think that one’s sweet!)
“Look, Christie, here’s the thing. When I first met you, I was just messing around. But we’ve gotten so close that, now... I really like you! I can’t keep this up anymore. I’m not the person you think I am. I’ve been pretending since the day I met you. It’s so hard having to constantly cover my tracks to keep my story straight... and I don’t WANT to anymore! I’m tired of living this lie! I’m done with it. I’m sorry.”
he catfishes some guy to blackmail him, but is implied to continue the flirtation even after the catfishing/blackmail is revealed
reese is, technically, married to a man. this particular plot point is played as a joke and manages to be both racist and homophobic, so I won’t go into it. but I believe he is still married to that man. technically.
reese takes care of a huge box full of caterpillars until they pupate and become beautiful butterflies. I feel like there’s some kind of gay coming out metaphor here somewhere.
I think there are a couple other times where he comments on a guy’s attractiveness but I couldn’t find specific instances.
In conclusion: Reese is a deeply repressed gay kid who was socialized SO thoroughly as an early 2000′s straight boy that, despite his attraction for men and his obvious compulsory heterosexuality, he still cannot admit to himself that he is gay even as he enters adulthood. Furthermore, his subconscious frustration about this fact is turned outward to form the “schoolyard bully” costume he uses to mask his insecurities and keep others from getting too close to him.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. I could be convinced to come back for another talk about how Dewey is trans or about how each and every member of that family is neurodivergent in entirely different ways. Assuming anyone has read this far in the first place!!

{fancy suits from dad}
Ships: Peter Stark & Tony Stark, Pepper Pots/Tony Stark
Warnings: swearing, just fluff otherwise :)
Wc: 2,319
Here’s the thing, Peter Parker grew up in Stark Tower, which eventually became Avengers Tower of course. So whilst his whole class was buzzing about their field trip, all he could think was, “shit, shit shit.” His dad was going to embarrass the hell out of him. His Aunts and Uncles were going to endlessly tease him.
So, no Peter was not looking forward to the field trip. Not in the slightest. He still wanted to go, though. He knew that the rumors of his internship being fake were started by Flash, the annoying teen. He also knew that Flash had not once said his real name, preferring the name Penis Parker. It didn’t bother him as much as it used to. Also since highschool began, Flash had calmed down with his bullying. Well, maybe Flash hadn’t calmed down and high school was just bigger and he had thicker skin. And a new support system with plenty of people to go to.
Peter had been adopted by the Starks when he was a mere ten years old. At first, he was terrible at receiving any gifts or even too much attention. Slowly but surely, he got more and more used to it. Now, he wouldn’t not know what to do if any of that was taken away. Plus, he really did find a liking for expensive suits, however shallow. He looked good in them, and his father always insisted on buying him more and more. Tony would always find an excuse to spoil the kid a little more, however much Pepper tried to stop him.
“Peter, please see me after class regarding an urgent matter.”
Brough out of his thoughts, Peter swiftly nodded his head.
He looked at the board to see the words from before still written on them, “Field Trip to Stark Industries!” It might as well have said, “Dig Peter Stark’s Grave!”
“So, let’s get started with today’s lesson, graphing imaginary numbers on the complex plane!” He’d done this one a while back with his father. Something about not only learning applicable science and engineering. Peter tapped his glass, and the episode of Arrow he’d been watching on the car ride over began playing. He’d be ever grateful for his father’s gift of EDITH to him. Pepper had tried to ban him from wearing them to school, but hastily gave up when Peter pulled the spiderman danger card.
“Alright, class dismissed. Please remember to do this homework pages 11-18 on this unit’s homework handout.”
Peter, forgetting his teacher's previous request, was very glad to be on his way home. He was one foot out of the door when the teacher called his name. Now, his day had gone pretty well up to that point. Bucky made pancakes for breakfast, which were delicious. There was wayyy less traffic on the way to school. He’d aced an essay and a couple of quizzes, and then he even participated in PE effectively. But alas, all good things had to come to an end.
“Mr. Parker? The discussion.”
“Right,” Peter thought, joining the teacher at his desk.
“Peter, you are truly a great kid. I know you’ve been through a lot recently and in your life, but it is no excuse to make up an internship. We both know that it is not real. Now, acknowledging that you have a bright future, the administration and I have come forward with an offer. If you agree to write an apology, expressing that you understand what you did was wrong and immoral, you will both be allowed to come on the trip and no punishment will be given to you. If you choose to not take this opportunity, you will be banned from the trip and will be chastised.
Peter just stood there, not really comprehending. Apparently Flash’s little rumors were a lot bigger than he anticipated.
“I-i-I’m not lying,” was all he could manage. He had filed all the right paperwork and proved his internship.
“I’m sorry to hear that you will not come forward with the truth. You have up until the day before the trip to hand in the letter if you change your mind. Goodbye Peter.”
Peter just let his legs take him out of the classroom, then out of the school, and then to the road, a couple blocks away, where his dad picks him up from.
“Hello mini-me.”
“Hey,” Peter said, jumping into the passenger seat.
“‘Hi Dad, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to pick me up each and every day. Sick new car by the way! I’d love to drive it sometime!”
Peter just rolled his eyes with a smile, “Car looks great dad. McLarren’s are superior yet.”
“Ungrateful, so so ungrateful. What’s got you in a mood then?”
“Nothin,” Peter said, pulling out his phone.
“Oh come on, tell me. Tell me or I’ll call Ted.”
“Ned, Dad. We’ve been friends for like three years.”
“Not the point.”
“Just something at school.”
“Wow how very descriptive. You know I’m trying to do the whole feelings thing here, and you should appreciate that coming from my emotionally stunted self.”
“You’re so dramatic. Basically we’re having a field trip to your tower, and I’m not allowed to go because the teacher doesn’t think I really have an “internship.” Which, to be fair I don’t but that’s on you and not me.”
“Nah na na. I offered you an internship, and you said I’d be bored.”
“It would be. Doing a project for your company under strict supervision of some person would be sucky. I mean I can do anything I want from the lab you built me.”
“I know, but remember technically you are my intern. Remember we did that whole personal intern bullshit for the school.”
“Oh right. Is that why you keep harassing me about submitting all my completed projects.”
“No, that’s all your mother. Something about not wanting a lawsuit over a fake internship.”
“Make sense. She tends to be a lot smarter than you.”
“Ah, I feel so attacked. The abuse I suffer.”
“You’re terrible.”
“I am internally crying, kid. Sobbing.”
“Shut up,” we laughed.
“Who’s home?”
“You saw Buck and Sam this morning. Nat and Steve came back from their mission this afternoon. Thor and Loki are back for dinner tonight.. Strange might be coming round, not sure though. Cliff and the family aren’t back for at least a couple weeks. Oh and Bruce is wholed up in his lab as usual.”
“Shit. Everyone staying till the end of the week.”
“Yeah, oh the field trip. You’re screwed. You should have not told me.”
“Ughhhhh!!!”
“I love your life Petey.”
Peter walked into the kitchen and saw Steve reading a newspaper.
“Uncle Steve! Your back!” he smiled, dropping his bag off near the sofa. Steve got up to give the smaller boy a hug.
“Yep. Mission completed.”
“Nice. Can you tell me about it?”
“Yeah, it was nothing too interesting. We just needed some more intel into a terrorist organization stationed in the US. Most of the mission was recon. The next steps are being taken in a couple weeks.”
“Good to know there’s an active terrorist organization out there,” Peter said lightly.
Steve just smiled, not quite understanding the modern humor.
“Where is everyone else?” he said, realizing the living room was not in it’s normal chaotic state that he’d come to love. The chaos was his favorite reminder that he had so many people. He liked having lots of people, even after all this time.
“Nat and Buck are training, they invited you to join if you want. Bruce is in his lab, and dont worry he slept and ate last night. Not sure about the rest.”
“Right, thanks. I think I’m going to go train.”
Before he knew it, it was Friday morning, and his school was coming to his home. He was going to try very hard to ignore them. To do so, he asked his mum to let him sit in on some meetings. He had an easy in to the R&D and mechanical side of the company via the other interns. He was actually planning on hanging out with some of the “other” interns later that day. They were always happy to let Pete in on their projects and let him give them a hand. But he was always interested in getting more detail about the business side of the company, and he liked to get a window into it. Pepper was always happy to show her son the ropes. I mean he was heir to the company after all, even if he didn’t know yet.
He asked his mum to only schedule meetings after 12 as he requested a sleep in. Pepper was always happy when Peter slept as he was a little too much like his father. So, he woke bright and early at 11:00 o’clock.
After a scroll through his phone and a quick shower, he was ready to pull on his far too expensive Brunellio’s custom suit. It was one of his favorites. His father had got it custom made when he was in Italy, and told him he simply could not resist getting one for the kid. Pepper just smiled.
He had a large breakfast (enhanced metabolism) and headed towards the 34th floor where his first meeting was located. He’d been shadowing his mum for almost a year now whenever it was convenient, so he had the rointine down. He was almost sure he could take over a few of her meetings.
“Hi honey,” Pepper said, giving the boy a quick kiss on the cheek on the way to her own chair beside him. Peter blushed before resuming his professional posture and facial expression.
“Good morning everyone, as you can see Peter will be joining us today. I want to talk about some of the services we provide for our employees and their feedback. I’m aware we have a large portion to talk about so Kendra please take it away on that front.”
The first meeting went smoothly as planned. It was a discussion on the progress of the internal services, aka the IT department. Peter hadn’t learned much about their IT department, so it was good to listen in to. Pre these meetings, he, of course, does research into the background stuff, so he’s not completely lost. Pepper’s assistant usually provides him with a packet of info about the Stark Industries side of things. He is also given a list of key words and concepts he might want to make sure he understands. The research is fun for him, it makes him feel all professional.
Usually he spoke during the meetings, asking a couple questions and suggesting some ideas, but for this one he just learned and took in. The next meeting, however, was very much so his field. He’d spoken a lot with advertising, becoming very interested in the data analysis behind it. He even took a stats class so he could keep up. In that one he asked questions Pepper was on the verge of asking twice. He also contributed to the analysis of data once. Pepper usually liked him to participate as it was good for him, but he always felt bad suggesting stuff to the senior adults. He usually spoke to his mum or dad about projects for the company, preferring that.
They hung back in the room of the second meeting.
“Good job in this one Pete. Took two questions right off my tongue.”
“Thanks ma,” he said, always appreciating some approval.
“That’s all I’ve got for you today, kid. Rest of the stuff is, ya know.”
“Course. Thanks for these two. It was good to learn about internal affairs a bit more. Have a gap of knowledge there.”
“Yeah. Was that the first time meeting our CIT?”
“I believe so.”
“Well, next time we have a broader IA meeting, I’ll pull you outta school,” Pepper suggested.
“Really? That’d be epic.”
“Course, hun. Jarvis, sort that out please.”
“Of course Mrs. Potts.”
“Thanks J,” Peter yelled.
“Anytime mini-boss. No need to disturb the entire floor.”
“Are AI supposed to be so snarky?”
“Dad programmed it, what else would it be?”
“Valid point.”
“Right, got to run. See you later.”
“Bye, love you mum!”
“Love you too, Pete.”
“Jarvis, could you send me the tour plan for the visiting tour today?”
“Absolutely, sir. They’re on your phone now.”
“Thanks J.”
Looking at the plans Peter smiled. He had successfully avoided them the entire day. It said they were supposed to head back to school at 2:30, and it was about to be three. Smile on his face, he trotted down to the lobby to grab a coffee before going to meet Loki at the arcade. Don’t judge them, it was their thing. Taking the private lift down, and then walking straight to the coffee stand and ordering.
“Mr. Parker!” he heard the angry voice of his teacher, “How dare you show up here aft-”
Shit. shit. Shit.
“Edith, call dad, and tell him it’s urgent in the lobby.”
“Of course Peter.”
“Peter, are you listening to me! You are going to face extreme consequences for this.”
“Your coffee,” the man said, not realizing it was Peter, level ten personal of the tower, that was being yelled at.
“Thanks.”
“How dare you get coffee! In this building! Security!”
Tony arrived spotting his son instantly.
“Kid this best be impor- I see.”
“Hey Mr. Stark,” Peter said weakly.
“Mr. Harrington is it? Please stop harassing my intern.”
“H-he, he is y-your intern?”
“Yes. My favorite. Please exit the building and never question him again. You will be hearing from me.”
Let’s just say, Monday was an interesting day. At least Flash backed off, he was definitely an intern at SI, and no one embarrassed him on the trip.
