Erwin Smith is a cat person AND HERE’S WHY!!

jk i think him being a dog OR cat person is believable but I saw someone say him being a cat person after all would be a funny twist and then I realised how much sense it made.

Most people expect Erwin to be a dog person.You know – dogs are loyal, willing, can be easily trained to do X in promise of Y. They can be trained so well, in fact, that you don’t even need to give them a reward - their faith in you is that innate and complete that they will fetch or roll over or indeed lie down even if all you offer them afterwards is a cursory “well done, good job, smart boy.” And while Erwin admits that dogs would indeed, out of the choice between them and their feline counterparts, make better soldiers, it is foolish to think that what he values in his men is what he values in his personal companionships as well. And while dogs can be used for labour, they are - like cats - primarily for companionship. Erwin has always struggled to be close to his men precisely because they are so loyal, blindly and self-flaggelisingly so. They would do anything he asked, some of them, and these men make the best soldiers and the worst friends, because they fill him with a deep sense of guilt and remorse at having to demand such loyalty from them in the first place.

Cats, he finds, are much nicer creatures when friendship is the game.

Cats are not like dogs. They are cold, aloof, unfriendly, and smart. They never trust you, merely tolerate you, and they are impossible to trick or fool. They switch their mood as easily as the wind turns, and even if you treat them nicely they are not guaranteed to even pass gas in your undeserving direction. To put it simply, befriending a cat is a challenge, a task, a mission that requires skill, understanding, and patience. Erwin has always been told to know his enemy, and the same is true with cats.

But cats present a worthwhile reward, if you can manage to commit yourself to the time-consuming, intellectual task of taming them. Where dogs are stupid and overbearing in their affection - which, albeit admittedly nice, can feel overwhelming and ill-deserved at times - cats are conservative with such pleasantries. And so, when they finally deign to butt the side of your leg with their furry little heads or mewl endearingly as they trot up to you, it feels like a real victory, it feels like something you unequivocally deserve. And if Erwin needs anything, it is the type of love he feels as if he actually deserves. Not love that is won from simply being the bigger and smarter life form, but love that is won through being good to those below you, from understanding their wants and needs and not needing to have them sit subservient beneath you and awaiting your orders.

Cats are quieter, too. Stiller things. Dogs are loud, always barking like they’ve had to suddenly scream out a battle plan, always moving and jumping in circles like they’re nervous or preparing to flee. But cats move with a slow grace, an unbothered laxness; a cat does not know, care, or act as if they are in a war. A cat is greater than that - supersedes such petty mortal happenings. A cat can’t sniff for bombs or point to alert you to a fallen soldier’s position on the field, because cats represent something greater than conflict. Cats were only ever partially domesticated, never brought fully into the human way of life. They are transient, they are beings of luxury and calmness and independence. Maybe, Erwin thinks, if the world were comprised more of cats - solitary, intelligent, wary - and less of dogs - obedient, unthinking, impulsive - there would be no need for wars to begin with. And yet that is not how things have turned out. The world is a catastrophic mix of cats and dogs, and we get on with each other just as well. In truth, though, the world is made up entirely of humans, and we are the cause of our own pain.

But Erwin likes cats. He likes the small, happy noises they make and the deep, constant, reassuring rumble of them purring contentedly against his chest. He likes how they can be relied upon to find their own food and water, how they do not look up to him as someone who should, and unfailingly will, provide. They are more his equal than some humans are, and he tries very hard (and subsequently fails) not to feel guilty about that. In the meantime, he scratches between their ears and watches those sly, sharp eyes glinting from amidst the small mass of black fur. It reminds him of someone, and he thinks that also plays quite a large part in why he likes them best.

In one of my favorites (i cant find the fic anymore😔) levi sees cadets rougly playing and tickling each other outside and erwin realises levi seems to study whats going on and when he finds out levi actually doesnt know what’s happening, he is in for a lesson. And now you fed my brain even more ideas and I LOVE that. The only four people who would get away with tickling levi (for different periods of time, erwin probably the longest because shhh yess husbands) hange and isabel and furlan😭😭 and don’t get either of us started on how levi handles affection in general because he really and I mean really had to get used to it with erwin.

Listen-LISTEN. Levi is so touched starved, god help him? He won't let you hug him for long because he knows he's gonna tear up and he just can't deal with that right now (He might let Erwin hold him after a long, long day though), and if you kiss this man on the cheek he's just;

Non tickling related, but I’ve been watching back through a bunch of old Erwin content people have put out there, and I’m in love with the dichotomy of his character. He’s a sociopathic killing machine and a dad at the same time and I think it’s incredibly funny.

Like, he would for sure send a whole troop of soldiers to their death if he thought it would in any way, shape, or form help their mission against the Titans after having brought that same group of soldiers a puppy several days before to boost moral.

Lose an arm, walk it off, scrape your knee, come here champ let me put a band-aid on that boo-boo for you.

I feel like this applies to Levi too. He would send him out on a mission that promises almost certain death without blinking and then get mad when Levi doesn’t take his cold medicine.

“I don’t care if it tastes gross, we need our strongest soldier in fighting shape”

“Last week you had me kill a Titan with two broken legs and a concussion”

The turmoil inside me

Summary: Armin's second chance at life and the consequences it has on his mind.

CW: Talks of depression, anxiety, mental breakdown, suicidal thoughts, thoughts of violently beating someone. Can be seen as eremin and eruri if you squint.

He was there, physically, for two long years. Day after day, keeping the turmoil of thoughts boiling wildly inside him, never coming to the surface. Maybe the amount of changes the island and military were going through helped him hide the growing despair, everyone being busy enough to not seek anything below the surface of his skin. For two long years he felt his now weaponized body hold a monster, not the Colossal titan, but his own mind. If for a moment Armin let his mind run free, he would lose his sanity completely, and he was deeply afraid of that.

You are not what they asked for. A veteran hero was killed for a weak boy to live.

He felt like a haunted man, never able to free himself of those whispers no matter how much he suffocated them. He tried, he really tried to just think rationally about this entire situation. He heard all of his friends’ pleads in the beginning. The day he woke up and realized death was taken from him and now a burden like no other rested on his shoulders.

It was Levi’s choice, Armin, he must have a good reason.

You now have a second chance, you deserve it after all that happened.

If it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t survive Bertholdt. Don’t blame yourself.

He heard it all, it made sense, it was rational…but still. Still he went two entire years slowly destroying himself from the inside out. He felt eyes and whispers talking about him, about his undeserving second life, even if he was cursed to only live for 13 years more. For two entire years he still could not stop thinking about all the anger, rage and despair brewing inside him. He was going through this punishment even when he actively chose to die that day, he accepted and embraced his interruption of life just to wake up and find out it was taken from him. He sometimes dreamed about violently beating Levi for his stupid selfishness on that rooftop. He wanted to hurt Eren for his stupid cries about Armin’s life just to turn around years later and distance himself from him and Mikasa.

He was afraid that one day his surface would rupture, and all the pain and feelings would pour into the world and drown everyone on its way, including Armin. He felt that day approaching anytime and all he wanted to do was end this torture now. He would never be able to hold on for 11 more years. When he was not dreaming of harming Levi and Eren, he was blissfully dreaming about ending things himself. Sometimes, while transforming into the Colossal he thinks about over exerting himself to death, or just simply putting a bullet through his head and not letting his healing kick in. He dreamed about death every single night. He prayed for it.

“You took that choice from me, you played god and now I’m expected to be someone I will never be”

Levi never answered him, just letting Armin’s enraged self to forever hate his destiny. Armin wanted the older man to admit his selfishness, to admit he let his heart take over and fucking up Armin’s mind in the process. He hated this, he hated this second cursed life he never asked for.

Happy birthday Armin, I guess.

when Levi was younger, his mother would always hum a certain song to him, he can’t remember the words,but he can remember the tune perfectly.

He often finds himself humming it when he’s stressed or upset about something.

One day after a very tough expedition, Commander Erwin called him to his office, they were talking about casualties and things of the sort.

The conversation died down and Levi was about to leave when he heard Erwin humming the same tune that always comforted him.

He turned around and looked at him, memories of Kuchel filling his mind.

He felt relaxed, he hadn’t even realised how tense he was.

It became a normal thing for Them to hum to each other when either was stressed or upset.

When Erwin Died, Levi went back to his body and hummed the song to him for one final time.

title: Levi and Erwin headcannons

Levi is usually awake before Erwin in the morning and makes coffee for Erwin and Levi makes himself tea instead.

Levi usually cooks in the house but on special Erwin will cook for both of them.

when cooking Levi can’t help but not reach certain things and Erwin has realized at this point Levi will never ask for help and will help when he notices Levi struggling.

Erwin usually has to eat in his office but seeing Levi walk in with a palate full of dinner gives him a smile on his face.

Sometimes when Erwin eats in his office Levi will stick around to talk to him about important work or their day.

Erwin feels guilty knowing Levi does a lot of house work to say the least. cooking, cleaning, organizing, ect

Erwin (even though he knows he isn’t as good as Levi) helps with cleaning the best he can. weather it’s taking over dishes or sweeping the house he tries his best when he can.

even though Levi with his squad and at work is usually monotone and straight faced but at home he actually cracks a few smiles which makes Erwin extremely happy and every time he sees that smile he can’t help but fall in love over again.

Erwin is extremely protective of Levi and tries to hide it. he doesn’t want Levi to think he thinks he is weak but Erwin can’t help but have that instinct. he definitely stays close to Levi when out and if Levi does get hit on by women or men he gives a hard stare knowing that will usually scare off the person trying to hit on Levi.

When either one of them is overworked the other always stops and tries to unwind the other.

if Erwin is up in his office late at night Levi will go up and walk behind his chair giving a massage on his shoulders which pulls Erwin out of work mode.

if Levi is over worked Erwin convinced him to lay down for “just a few seconds” which always tricks Levi into sleeping with his head on Erwins lap.

physical touch is definitely something the two melt into. if Erwin wraps his arm around Levi in bed Levi will melt into his arms and rest his head on Erwins chest. if Levi gives kisses to Erwins hand or face or cheek or anywhere it snaps Erwin out of whatever he is doing and makes him focus on Levi.

a favorite thing for them to do is read together. just having each other’s presence is a dream come true for them.

We all know Levi has trouble sleeping and that he also feels incredibly devoted to Erwin. So, Imagine Levi laying in bed looking incredibly salty for hours on end while he’s trapped under Erwin’s weight. He can’t wake him up because Levi wants Erwin to get his rest, and honestly he doesn’t have the heart to risk moving. So, he just lies there with this miserable love face until morning comes or Erwin rolls.

Also please don't take any of these seriously they're just for fun

I'll try to put only my original ideas here but some of them have been influenced by other posts

•hange's actor is non binary in real life

•eren's actor was a child actor that played various background child characters in many movies but aot is his first leading role

•levi's actor is a professional acrobat and does all of his stunts himself

•this resulted to him getting injured on his leg during shooting that one chasing scene in season 3 pt 1

•erwin's actor is very respected in the industry and has an academy award

•mikasa's actor is part Japanese and is related to levi's actor

•zeke's actor was really goofy and a huge fan of the manga

•he was really excited when he was able to act with normal clothes instead of the suit they made him wear as the beast titan

•armin's actor was cast because of of his soft childlike voice that isayama was looking for

��jean's actor was a child model and continued doing modelling during and after aot

•he absolutely loves his character and was really excited to watch him grow and develop

•erwin's and levi's actors knew eachother before aot and are really close

•they make a lot of eruri jokes on set and act as if they are in love on purpose

•on the 'give up on your dreams and die' scene erwin's actor forgot his line and instead said 'levi im in love with you' instead of thank you

•levi's actor then proceeded to kiss him and the scene was cut with a wheezing isayama

•eren's actor goes live on set all the time and enjoys answering fan questions

•he sometimes spoils stuff too and he gets in trouble a lot

•reiner's actor was really hated during seasons 1-3 because of not being attractive enough and developed body dismorphia

•he started working out too much to feel better but it didn't help so he is now in therapy

•sasha's actress is a sweetheart and really enjoys all the food in the fanmail she recieves

•connie's actor is a menace and pranks everyone

•he has a shared tiktok account with sasha's actress called @sashanconnie where they post the pranks and funny videos of them in character

•he also introduced mikasa's actress to thirst traps and now she cannot be stopped

•bertoto's actor is extremely good friends with armin's actor

•he give everyone piggie rides and buys lots of snucks for the entire cast and crew

•aot was annie actress' acting debut and everyone threw her a partie at the end of season one

•marco's actor couldn't stop giggling during his death scene making it really difficult for the others to focus

•hange's and levi's actors met on set, started dating and got married just before the shooting of season 4 pt 1

•levi's actor has a tiktok account that has the kind of vibe that finneas oconell's account does, stiching videos and stuff

•he is mixed french, jewish and japanese but grew up in france and he often cusses in french

•miche's actor is also a body builder and he is greek, hange's actor is also greek

•armin's actor speaks really loud into the microphone on interviews and cracks eren's actor up

•reiner's actor is german and has tried to teach the cast german many times with little success

•pieck's actress was known for playing in many classics

•porco's actor really likes his character's haircut

•colt's actor and falco's actor are actual brothers

•everyone babies the child actors on the show

•eren's actor was really upset about the whole gabi slander think and posted about it on twitter and ig

•zeke's actor befriended levi's actor and they are besties on set with levi's actor joking he has found a replacement for erwin's actor

•hange's actor is very serious in real life and nowhere near hange's bubbly personality

•ymir's actress is an lgbt activist and that is part of the reason she took the role

•historia's actress has a youtube chanel about make up that blew up after aot

•jean's actor called out ellen degeneres after he and the rest of the cast was insulted by her

Bed Time

Eruri bed time headcannon

As Erwin is climbing into bed after a long day, he runs his hand through his hair. Gone are the hours where he has to keep his hair nice and tidy. Erwin tries to relax, but he feels like something is missing. Something he craves to have next to him so that he can drift off into sleep.

Erwin glances to the half-open door and sees the light down the hall which means Levi is sitting there in the room probably doing paperwork. Erwin lets out a sigh. He closes his eyes for a second, trying to decide if he wants to call to Levi or actually go down there. He contemplates this for a minute. Then decides it’s worth a shot if he doesn’t have to get up. He calls out Levi’s name. The commander waits a minute but he gets no response, so with another sigh he gets up and goes down to the room where Levi sits.

Erwin comes to the door way and leans on the doorframe, exhausted from the day. He stands there, simply gazing at Levi for a moment before the captain notices his presence. Levi raises an eyebrow.

“I thought you said you were going to bed?”

“Yeah, I was, but I got restless and felt there was something missing,“ Erwin replies sleepily.

“Oh? And what might that be?” Levi asks, but he feels he knows the answer.

Erwin replies with a sleepy smile. “You, of course.”

Levi sighs and closes his eyes as if he’s contemplating what to say next. Then he opens his eyes, looks to Erwin and says “Erwin I have paperwork to finish and I’m nowhere near ready to go to bed yet.”

“Yeah I know but-”

“But nothing!” Levi interrupts. “It’s paperwork for you! Remember!? You’re the one that wanted me to do this!“ Levi’s tone holds a hint of annoyance. Erwin pauses, contemplating what he wants more right now. Levi to finish the paperwork he wanted by tomorrow? Or for Levi to come to bed with him? As if Levi can hear Erwin’s thoughts he suddenly says, “It’s not that I don’t want to come lay in bed with you, even if I don’t sleep. I just have too much to do right now.” Levi’s tone has changed. It is softer and laced with longing. Levi wants to be able to please his commander in both ways.

The tired side of Erwin’s brain takes over. “Levi you’ve had all day to finish this. You should have been done by now.” Erwin strides over to where Levi is sitting, scoops him up with ease, and carries him back to the bedroom.

Erwin places Levi down on the bed then climbs up himself. Levi tries to escape off the bed before Erwin can lay down. The captain knows that if Erwin lays down next to him and holds him close, Levi won’t be able to move until the commander falls asleep. Erwin, having been expecting this, pulls Levi close to his chest and lays down on the bed with him. He wraps both arms around Levi and drapes one of his long legs over the captain’s. This is mostly so Levi can’t get out of bed unless Erwin allows him to, but it’s also surprisingly comfortable. Levi wriggles, trying to see if there is any way for him to slip free so he can go finish his work.

‘Nope it not going to happen…’ Levi thinks.

“Erwin?” Levi questions with a light sigh.

“Hmm?” Erwin mutters sleepily.

“I need to get my work done,” Levi drawls in a soft, soothing voice, hoping to be able to persuade Erwin to let him finish his work.

“And I need to sleep,” Erwin replies in a tone that was almost commanding.

Levi did not speak or move for a minute after this, knowing Erwin all too well. He knew that once the commander had a thought in his head there was very little to be done that could persuade him otherwise. Then an idea pops into Levi’s head.

“Commander…” He spoke in his best loving tone, “Please.”

Erwin shifts his head so that his face is buried in the man’s short, raven hair and breathes in Levi’s scent. A scent which he loves and has always made him feel peaceful and happy.

Levi could tell that Erwin was trying to ignore his words, but, as always, had a hard time doing so.

“Commander,” Levi spoke in the same tone.

Erwin let out a sigh that ruffled Levi’s hair. Then he spoke in a soft, quiet voice. “Yes Levi?”

“Please?”

“Why?”

“Because I need to, commander,” Levi threw in that last 'commander’ in hopes to push Erwin to his breaking point.

Erwin sighs and continues to breathe in Levi’s scent. Levi didn’t say anything. He simply lays there, listening to Erwin’s heartbeat. He doesn’t want to admit it, but he always found it soothing to be held in Erwin arms.

Finally, Erwin spoke in the same quiet voice. “ Humor me?”

Levi was confused at first. What did Erwin mean by that? Levi heard Erwin’s voice speak again.

“Humor me by staying here with me.”

Levi goes to answer him but is interrupted by the commander. “If I let you go get your work, will you promise me you will come straight back and finish it here?” By this time Erwin had repositioned himself so that he was looking upon Levi’s face. Levi could make out enough of Erwin’s face to know that he was gazing right into Levi’s eyes. They both remain silent for a minute before Levi reaches up to Erwin’s face and places his hand on his cheek.

At Levi’s touch, Erwin leans his head into the captain’s hand and closes his eyes for several moments. He opens them again to look at the raven haired man next to him.

Then Levi spoke, “Yeah, I guess I can do that for you.”

Erwin smiles, then leans down and kisses Levi. The captain’s hand moves from Erwin’s face to the back of his head. The moment their lips touched, Levi had instinctively laced his fingers through Erwin’s hair.

When Erwin broke the kiss, he said “Hurry up and go get your stuff. I’ll be here waiting for you to return.” After that, Erwin moved so that Levi could easily get up off the bed.

Levi sits up and puts his feet over the edge of the bed. He then turns back to Erwin and says, “I’ll be right back.” Erwin pulls Levi towards him and kisses him again. It lasts for several moments before Erwin breaks it.

“You better be,“ the commander responds.

Levi then stands, walks across the room, and heads to go get his stuff from the other room. For a second, he plays with the idea of not coming back until he was done with his work, but he knows Erwin won’t be too happy and would probably come get him too…

'If anyone else wanted me to do something before I finish this, they would have to wait for me to be done…but since it is Erwin… well it is different,’ Levi thought.

When Levi finally returns to the room Erwin is laying down on the bed with his back towards the door. “Oi you asleep?” Levi asks in a disapproving tone.

“No. I was simply waiting for you to return,” Erwin says with feigned patience tinging his tone as he rolls over to look towards the door.

“Rrriiiggghhhttt…” Levi scoffs sarcastically. “Are you sure you really want me to work on this here? I’m going to need a light to be able to see what I’m doing you know?”

"Yes, yes it’s fine. The light won’t bother me.“ Erwin says as if it was a non-issue.

“I’ll also be moving around and making noise,” Levi adds.

“Yes, Levi, I’ll be fine. I will be able to fall asleep even with you doing all that. I can sleep through almost anything,” Erwin chides in the same nonchalant tone. “Also… I’ll be content as long as I’m with you.” He adds in a loving tone.

Levi shakes his head and asks, “What am I going to do with you?”

“I don’t know,” Erwin responds. there was a pause before he softly asks, “You could love me?”

Levi gives a light laugh. “Yeah I guess I 'could’ do that.” Levi teases.

“Hey!” Erwin huffs in an 'I’m not impressed’ manner. Levi laughs and enters in, setting his stuff on the table and turning the lamp on. The commander squints and recoils from the light source. Levi takes advantage of this and uses one hand to steady himself on the bed and the other to bring Erwin towards him so that he can kiss him. After Levi breaks the kiss, he moves his head so that their foreheads are touching and whispers, “ You know I’m just messing with you right?“

Erwin moves his hand to the back of Levi’s head. “Of course I do.” He then leans forward to kiss the captain again.

After they break the kiss, Levi looks at Erwin. “So… How do you want to do this?”

Erwin looks around, thinking, then he pats his hand on the bed. “Sit here and get set up. Then I’ll come shift closer and get situated so I can sleep,“ he decides.

“Tell me. Why am I here right now?” Levi prods, still not totally convinced this will work.

Erwin raises an eyebrow at this. “So that I can get my Levi cuddles and you can do your work.”

Levi shakes his head but climbs into the bed just the same. He always trusts Erwin’s decisions, even if he doesn’t quite understand them himself.

Both men get settled before Erwin speaks again. “Good night, my Levi.”

Levi reaches his hand down to the top of Erwin’s head and runs his hand through his hair. "Good night, my Commander.“ At Levi’s words, a smile falls across Erwin’s sleepy face as he drifts off into sleep.
