#31: Season 1, Episode 2 - “Stevens Genes”
Louis makes the track team! Not only that, he’s poised to be the new star runner! The only problem is that Louis runs as slow as a sloth. Sound confusing? Well, it’s all part of Larry Beale’s plan to set him up for failure and humiliation.
Tumblr media
It’s only the second episode of the entire series and things are already starting to pick up amazingly. This episode is packed with memorable and quotable lines, many of which I still use to this day. This one continues with the theme established from day one: Louis trying to discover something he’s good at. I love this theme. It makes for some awesome character growth and it works really well here!
It opens with Coach Tugnut rallying up the boys in gym class, announcing that there’s an open spot on the track team. This of course, somehow segues into him worshiping Donnie Stevens and ranting about how much of a legend he is and what an asset he once was to the track team. Well, to every team actually. If Ren is the academic overachiever, Donnie is the athletic overachiever. Tugnut yells at the class army style to turn right and bow their heads. We then get a shot of this giant mural dedicated to Donnie excelling at every sport ever with patriotic music playing in the background. It’s incredible. It also includes one of the greatest unspoken quotes ever:
Tumblr media
Donnie needs to give a TED Talk. Stat.
While this Donnie praise is happening, they make a point to show Larry Beale -- who I’m assuming is Coach Tugnut’s assistant since he’s not in Grade 7, looking visibly disgusted. He mumbles “Donnie Stevens is over. It’s my turn now” to himself. Oh, boy.
Tumblr media
They head out to the track to do some timed sprints. Of course, Larry is the one with the stopwatch. Larry’s sort of taunting all the kids trying to motivate them to run faster. When it’s Louis’ turn we get a line that always gets a laugh out of me:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The thought of Louis “running” slow enough to take days to reach point B is great. Gotta love his self-awareness.
To everyone’s surprise, Louis is extremely fast. Even faster than Donnie’s best time. Could this be Louis’ “thing” he’s good at?! Don’t get your hopes up. Larry purposely clocked his time in at 18.25 seconds... which is probably a good 8-10 seconds before Louis actually finished lol. Tugnut is shocked and gives Louis the vacant spot on the team immediately.
Tugnut is totally kissing Louis’ butt now because he thinks he’s carrying on the Stevens Dynasty. Louis is seriously amazed that he’s so fast!! “I always knew you had it in you!!” Tugnut tells him. And then we get yet another line I love:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Legendary save, Tugnut. Legendary save. I literally use this quote whenever the opportunity arises.
Louis starts hanging out with Donnie more to get some sports advice. Donnie suggests the most ridiculous things like putting mousse in your hair for aerodynamic-ness and shaving your legs to run like the wind. Which results in a line you’ve undoubtedly heard: “Donnie, I’m running track -- not modeling pantyhose.”
We see that Ren has been assigned to cover sports for the school newspaper. She discovers that Louis made the track team, and is immediately suspicious. I’d be too, tbh. I mean, this is the same kid who gets cramped up and winded just from tying his shoes. Louis is pretty excited about this new-found talent, though. He’s finally starting to feel like a true member of the Stevens family. Naturally, this goes to his head and he’s already dreaming of becoming a multimillionaire Olympic athlete:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do athletes just stand in the middle of a packed arena and get handed giant checks for 40 mil? Like... is that a thing? Not to mention, the check is from “Hoop Stars” and clearly shows a basketball player logo. Okay.
Around this point, we start to see Louis succumbing to peer pressure a bit. This happens a few more times throughout the series. Yet another symptom of desperately wanting to fit into his family. He ditches Tawny and Twitty at lunch to hang out with Larry and the popular jocks.
Tumblr media
Larry is so fake. Louis is so pure. I’m so sad.
Ren stops by to get a quote from Louis about the big meet against Rockport and he gives the most awkwardly ridiculous and overdramatic statement. That patriotic music we heard earlier kicks in again. It’s great. The cherry on top is when he mispronounces Rockport “Rock-a-por.”
Later that day before practice, Louis takes Donnie’s mousse advice a little too far:
Tumblr media
You’ve probably seen gifs from this scene. (Especially the gif version of the photo I chose for the cover picture.)
He shows up to practice feelin’ all suave with his moussed-to-death hair. There’s a “Staying Alive” knock-off playing as he walks towards the track. I actually love that this show basically never got the rights to use the legitimate songs. It sort of makes everything funnier, imo. That, and Disney Channel is cheap apparently and don’t permanently pay for the rights to popular songs. Dunno if I mentioned this before, but Lizzie McGuire was pretty much the channel’s most popular show and was super trendy/caught up in Early 00′s pop culture. Therefore, that show used SO MANY official songs. 16 years later, almost all of those songs are missing in the reruns and replaced with terrible stock music. An iconic scene like the “Us Against The World” music video is not nearly as impactful or nostalgic because they’re dancing to generic techno music now. It SUCKS. So, thank god Even Stevens never used any. Their stock music sort of works subconsciously. The song used here is totally not “Staying Alive” -- but it’s juuust close enough that it triggers your brain and you remember it as “Staying Alive.” Kinda cool.
Side note: It’s so difficult to not quote almost every line of this episode. There are so many good ones, I have to keep stopping myself from typing out a freaking transcript.
Anyway, Ren observes Louis and Larry practicing and it’s crystal clear that Larry is holding back for whatever reason.
Tumblr media
Be a little less obvious, Larry. Also, sorry for all the gifs. I can’t help myself.
Ren puts the pieces together and figures out what Larry is up to. His plan is to set Louis up to fail big time at the meet. That way when he beats Louis, he’ll be able to gloat about beating “the fastest Stevens of all!” Makes sense. Ren tries telling Louis, but of course, he doesn’t believe her........ WE GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN ONE EPISODE LATER IN WHAT’LL IDOL DO, JUST REVERSED. God. Siblings not believing each other drives me insaaaane. I understand where Louis’ unwillingness to believe is coming from though. He insists that Larry is Ren’s enemy, not his, and he’s just so excited to finally have something to be good at. It breaks my heart.
Ren later apologizes and tells Louis that she’s proud of him. Louis rants again about everyone in the family having their “thing” and now that he’s found his he’s not gonna let anyone take it away. But, Ren tells him “You HAVE your thing. You’re... funny.” *Cue the emotional piano. Literally.* You can tell those words really mean a lot to him.
Tumblr media
We’ve made it to the big track meet. Coach Tugnut gives the guys possibly the greatest motivational words ever: “Remember, it’s not whether you win or lose -- as long as you come in first.” Perfect. There’s also a great bit here where Donnie is stretching Louis’ leg and asks him when the last time he stretched was. Louis is clearly in pain and says “I don’t have a schedule with me right now... but if I were to guess..... uhh.... NEVER?!” - This is so me. I’ve also used that quote before.
We learn that Louis’ main rival is some dude Trevor Dunn. As the runners take off, both Trevor and Larry dramatically fall halfway to the finish line. Victory is within Louis’ reach... If he just keeps running, he’ll totally win! But what does he do?! He runs over to help them instead. The sucky thing is, Larry faked his injury and pulls Louis to the ground like “lol got ya” and wins the race. Louis stays behind and comforts Trevor, who has an actual sprained ankle. What a sweetheart. Louis is cracking jokes (”Talk about the agony of da-feet. Please, no standing ovations.”) and making Trevor laugh pretty hard. So, Trevor casually says “You’re funny.” :’) This time it means so much more coming from someone who’s not his sister.
Tumblr media
Even though Larry won, the entire crowd is cheering “LOUIS, LOUIS!” for his good deed. Larry is fuming.
The final scene is a sweet mirror talk. I think I’ve mentioned enough how much I love and miss these. This one is a favorite of mine:
Tumblr media
"The best thing that happened to me today? A kid called me funny. And as much as I like being on the track team and hanging out with my brother... I like being funny more."
This is so heartwarming. Because it’s obvious that comedy is truly his "thing." It’s nice to see him accept that. (Even though he still struggles later on.) This is another parallel with Shia, I think. He has suuuch a natural gift for comedy. I want him to embrace it more these days!!! *sigh* Plz god.
Louis also ends up getting Student of the Month and his picture is adorable lol
Tumblr media
I really, really like this episode.
I feel like most people remember this one pretty well. If you watched Disney Channel during Even Stevens’ original run, then you most definitely remember a slew of quotes. Its quotability is the main reason I’ve ranked this towards the higher end of the list. I also have a soft spot for this episode in general and there’s some nice character development as well.
Like I’ve mentioned before, Disney hammers the first few episodes of a show into the freaking ground. I swear I’ve seen the same few episodes of Andi Mack and Raven’s Home on TV every single day since they premiered. That’s basically what they did with Even Stevens, too. It’s part of what makes Season 1 particularly memorable at times. There really isn’t much that I dislike about this one. Like most S1 episodes, it’s just a little slower. Since it’s super early in the series, the overall plot feels very Late 90′s Disney Channel. Similar to All About Yvette. (I feel like I bring that episode up constantly lol) There’s just a certain pure, old school, generic quality to it that simply cannot be accurately explained and somehow makes me feel a little neutral about it.
That being said, this is only EPISODE 2!!!! Considering that, it’s top-notch honestly. Right out the gate, we’re getting to see more sides to Louis Stevens. Naïve, arrogant/head in the clouds, caring, funny. And of course, we ultimately see what a good kid at heart he is. And boy, do I love to see that. :D
Thanks fo’ readin.

70th Emmy Nomination Predictions
Last year, five new dramas broke into the race, and they’re looking to be as strong as they were last year. With former champ Game of Thrones returning to the race, though, people need to make some room. Should be interesting. On the comedy side, Veep, which has won the Best Comedy three years running, is off this year, including its leading lady Julia Louis Dreyfus who has won six times in a row, opening up the Comedy race. Looking forward to seeing some new faces over on that side. Here are my predictions for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards!

Will be interesting to see which of the five new shows that arrived last year can maintain their momentum. Hoping for some new, new faces everywhere else!

The 20 Most Positive Moments of 21 Years of the “New Browns”
Tumblr media
In the wake of yet another disappointing Cleveland Browns season, I tried to think about the more positive moments since the Browns returned in 1999. It actually made me sadder but I put together this list of The Top 20 Positive Moments of The First 21 Years of the “New Browns.” I made some ground rules. Nothing from this terrible season would be included (and, frankly, nothing actually was even worthy in my mind of the top 20). Only one “notorious” incident is included because I found positives in it whereas there’s none to be found with Dwyane Rudd’s helmet throw or Orlando Brown pushing down a referee or Myles Garrett swinging a helmet at Mason Rudolph or any of the many games the Browns managed to blow. I tried to factor in the impact of the moment on the organization as a whole, the particular seasons, and the fans. And, as I’d find out, finding 20 was still like pulling teeth by the end. So, here we go with links to each (YouTube is amazing if you want to watch bad football)!
20. Week 16, 2016: Browns 20, Chargers 17
Nothing really introduces you to how sad the past two decades have been for the Browns than them avoiding going 0-16 being a top 20 moment. In a year that the Cavs won the championship and the Indians almost won the World Series, the Browns delivered us this. Well, have fun watching RG3’s greatest moment in Cleveland.
19. Week 5, 2013: Browns 37, Bills 24
It was Thursday night football. It was Jim Brown night. The Browns were 2-2 and had actually looked promising under formerly 3rd string quarterback Brian Hoyer. But Hoyer then went down with a season-ending injury. This likely turned into the best moment and night of Brandon Weeden’s career in the NFL and that’s saying a lot considering he only threw for 197 yards and 1 touchdown. Hoyer’s injury proved deadly to first-year head coach Rob Chudzinski. He only won one game for the remainder of the season and was fired.
18. Week 9, 2010: Browns 34, Patriots 14
Coming off a bye week, the Browns were playing the 6-1 Patriots. They shockingly blew them out as Peyton Hillis had a field day and Eric Mangini beat his mentor in Bill Belichick. Of course, by the end of the year, Mangini was fired with new “football czar” Mike Holmgren coming in. But, a blowout of the most successful organization of the 20 years your organization has been incompetent is worthy of making the list.
17. Week 15, 2018: Browns 17, Broncos 16
I’ll admit to having a bias if the Browns actually show up in a primetime, nationally televised game. In a year where they fired coach Hue Jackson mid-season and were riding a wave of excitement with interim head coach Gregg Williams and rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield, the Browns held on in a hostile environment in Denver. It was highlighted with a Jabrill Peppers sack to end the game. Peppers was traded in the offseason.
16. Week 12, 2014: Browns 26, Falcons 24
I remember this game mostly because both head coaches (Mike Pettine and Mike Smith) did a great job in trying to get both of their respective teams to lose the game. Despite a last-minute field goal by the Falcons to go down 24-23, Brian Hoyer and the Browns managed to engineer a drive to win the game. They were 7-4 with the win. Of course, things came crashing down in subsequent weeks, Pettine had to push Johnny Manziel in to the starter role as I watched the game while experiencing one of the worst hangovers of my life and the rest is history. On a personal level, I quit drinking 6 months later. Sadly, Johnny Manziel did not.
15. Week 1, 2004: Browns 20, Ravens 3
Nothing makes a fan base feel better than to start off a season on a winning note. Of course, the Browns have only delivered this to its fans once in 21 seasons. For that reason alone, this game makes this list. Beating a division rival like the Ravens is great. Doing so to start the season is great. Other than, this game had no impact other than to spoil Deion Sanders’s first game with the Ravens. Yes, Deion Sanders was on the Ravens.
14. Week 6, 2008: Browns 35, Giants 14
2008 was a year of high expectations. The Browns were coming off a 10-6 season but they trudged out with an 0-3 record and one of the organization’s favorite things: a quarterback controversy. With those expectations came more national games and the Browns faced the defending champion New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Surprisingly, they delivered on the kind of expectations for the season by blowing out the Giants at home and giving something great to the fans. If anything, watching these highlights will remind that you Darnell Dinkins scored a touchdown on Monday Night Football and this is the easily the greatest moment in his NFL career. The season, of course, ended terribly with the Browns on a 6-game losing streak, being shut out by both the Bengals and Steelers, and the organization firing GM Phil Savage and head coach Romeo Crennel.
13. Week 14, 2001: Jaguars 15, Browns 10
This was Bottlegate. Sure, this is supposed to be a list of positive moments. But, even though notorious and likely not a great look for Cleveland, this season was the first glimmers of the Browns being on the right path to winning as an organization. It was a moment that questioned officiating and replay and the Browns needed this win to cling on to their playoff hopes. The moment was a raw response from a fan base whose team was stolen away from by the league and now it felt as if a game with playoff implications was being stolen away from them as well. I can recall, even as a teenager, saying, “If I were at the game, I would have thrown something.” So, even if regrettable, it somehow made sense at the time and spoke to the fan’s energy and desperation for a winner. The Browns dropped to 6-7 with the loss and finished 7-9.
12. Week 7, 2010: Reggie Hodges Fake Punt
As we’ll come to see in this list, the “New Browns” have managed to get most of their really memorable moments out of special teams players. That was the case when Reggie Hodges ran 68 yards on a fake punt as the Browns upset the defending champion New Orleans Saints in the SuperDome, 30-17.
11. Wild Card Playoffs, 2002: Kelly Holcomb
As devastating as the loss in the only “New Browns” playoff appearance is, quarterback Kelly Holcomb gave arguably the best performance by a Brown of this 21-year era. Holcomb went 26-for-43 with 429 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also started a quarterback controversy for the next season that ultimately buried both his and Tim Couch’s careers.
10. Week 15, 2009: Jerome Harrison
The Browns won the game, 41-34, in a 4-game winning streak to end the season that helped save Mangini’s job. But what was most important was Jerome Harrison’s 286 rushing yards which currently ranks 3rd on the list for most rushing yards in a single game. It made the fact that #2 Jamal Lewis’s 295 yards was against the Browns a little better. It also is additionally better understanding where Harrison’s career went from here. After being traded to the Eagles, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Told by doctors that he would be a quadriplegic, Harrison has battled to now walk again.
9. Week 14, 2009: Browns 13, Steelers 6
The week prior to Harrison’s breakout game, the Steelers visited Browns Stadium for a Thursday night game. In front of a national crowd, Mangini and his team delivered an impressive defensive performance. There was something satisfying in watching the Browns sack Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger 8 times in the below-zero temperatures of Cleveland. It was the type of swarming defense and environment in the stadium that the Browns of the past brought to their fans. Sadly, Roethlisberger remains the winningest quarterback in the new Cleveland Browns Stadium history.
8. Week 2, 2007: Browns 51, Bengals 45
The Browns got killed in Week 1 against the Steelers. They traded starting quarterback Charlie Frye in between weeks. It looked like another dysfunctional season ahead. Then, strangely enough, the offense looked explosive. A shootout occurred at Browns stadium and they ended up victorious on the way to a season that saw the team nearly make the playoffs and produce 6 Pro Bowlers.
7. Week 3, 2018: Browns 21, Jets 17
The Browns looked lifeless on offense to start the game under Tyrod Taylor. After going out with an injury, rookie quarterback Mayfield entered the game and provided a spark for the Thursday night crowd in Cleveland. After an 0-16 season, the #1 overall pick engineered a comeback for the Browns’ first win in 20 games and hope for the organization.
6. Week 5, 2003: Browns 33, Steelers 13
On Sunday Night Football, Tim Couch delivered the best game of his career on the road against a bitter rival. Couch threw 20-for-25, 208 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. The game put the Browns at 2-3. They of course fell apart ending the season at 5-11 but this was a dominating, road primetime performance (rare in this 21-year “New Browns” era).
5. Week 8, 1999: Browns 21, Saints 16
The Browns were 0-7 entering this game. They fell behind 16-14 in the last minute of the game and got the ball back with 16 seconds left. With 2 seconds left, Couch heaved a Hail Mary that was tipped and amazingly caught by wide receiver Kevin Johnson. It was an unthinkable way for the “New Browns” to notch their first ever win in their return.
Tumblr media
4. Week 11, 2007: Browns 33, Ravens 30 (OT)
In an actually meaningful season with the Browns down 3, the always reliable Phil Dawson came in to attempt a game-tying field goal. It initially looked the ball hit the crossbar and bounced out as the Ravens rejoiced. But, upon review, the ball actually went in, hitting the stanchion and bouncing back out. The game went to overtime where Dawson kicked the game winner. It was perhaps the most exciting win in the Browns near playoff run in 2007.
3. Week 10, 2007: Josh Cribbs Kickoff Return
If it wasn’t for the fact that the Browns lost the game to the Steelers, 31-28, this would be the “New Browns” greatest moment of its greatest season. In what looked like it would be a terrible play leading to the Browns being backed up within their own 5, Cribbs did the magic that made him a legend to Browns fans and returning of the great kickoffs for a touchdown not just in Browns history but in NFL history.
2. 2007 NFL Draft: Browns Pick Joe Thomas
When you are incompetent for 21 years like the “New Browns,” you are always playing for the NFL Draft. In 2007, the Browns shockingly got it right. They picked Joe Thomas with the #3 overall pick. As sad as it is that an offensive lineman could be the #2 most memorable moment in 21 years, Thomas represented everything about Cleveland and the Browns. He will be a Hall of Famer and have his place in the Browns Ring of Honor. He’s a beloved legend who never wanted to leave Cleveland and wanted to be a part of a winner here for the fans until his body wouldn’t let him do it anymore.
1. Week 17, 2002: Browns 24, Falcons 16
A team needs to have an iconic call and moment and Jim Donovan screaming “Run, William, Run!” may not be the best but it’s all the “New Browns” have. It was a great run that ultimately catapulted the Browns into their only playoff appearance of these 21 seasons and made the stadium feel as electric as it did in Municipal.
Over the course of me writing this, the Browns fired Freddie Kitchens. So, once again, we’re waiting for next year…

Why is the moneyball rack in a different place for each 3-Point Contest shooter?
Tumblr media
The iconic moneyball that’s worth two points was once placed at the end of a rack. Now, it’s an entire rack ... at the player’s choosing.
The NBA made the first substantive change to the Three-Point Contest in 2014 when they added the “moneyball rack.” In the past, shooters shot five balls at five stations around the arc, with the last ball counting for two points. Now, one entire rack consists of double-point moneyballs — and it’s at the shooter’s choosing.
Obviously, this adds an element of strategy. Over the three years we’ve seen the contest using this format, shooters tend to put the moneyball rack last. However, we’ve seen it almost everywhere. Here’s Stephen Curry talking about his strategy in 2014 to CBS Sports’ Matt Moore:
“I haven't decided. Kevin Love and I were talking, and I'm not sure. I don't want to give all my secrets away, to keep an edge. But I would think it's going to be one of the last three racks. You don't want to start off with it, because you want to get in a rhythm, but if you put it at the end, you might get a little heavy-legged, a little tired. There's definitely some game-planning that has to go on. I feel like a coach before a big game, have to make that one decision that could decide a win or a loss. But it'll definitely be one of those last three racks.”
The new format has allowed the Three-Point Contest to reach new high scores. Craig Hodges’ 25-of-30 score in the first round had stood since 1986 until Jason Kapono tied him in 2008, but the added moneyball rack broke those records almost instantly. In 2015, Stephen Curry set a new high with 27 points (out of a new 34 total). The next year, Klay Thompson beat Curry in the contest while tying his record.
In 2017, scores were slightly down with Eric Gordon beating a field that included Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, Kyle Lowry, and previous champion Thompson with a score of 25 in the first round, 20 in the second and 21 in an overtime win.
Hodges still holds two records — most made shots (21) in a round and most consecutive shots made (19). Those records may have staying power beyond the new format.
Here’s the thinking behind all five spots on the floor, and why an NBA player might choose it over another spot.
The first corner
The corners are closer to the basket that above the break, which explains why it’s typically a more efficient shot. Starting with the first corner lets you take it nice and slow, since you might be up against the clock if you put it as the final rack. Of course, you risk not having your rhythm yet. But if you’re confident you can sit for 30 or 40 minutes and immediately start hitting shots anyway, putting the moneyball on your starting corner allows you patiently knock down shots worth twice as much.
Either wing
The wings are by far the least popular placements for the moneyball racks. They aren’t lined up parallel or perpendicular with the backboard, making you adjust to the angle on the fly. That’s not a huge issue — obviously, we’ve seen a million threes go in from the wings. But statistically, the shot is a lower percentage one than the corners.
The second rack makes almost no sense. The fourth rack makes a little — if you’re a shooter who runs a little slow, but you’re confident you’ll have your rhythm by the fourth rack, then maybe this is the one for you.
Top of the arc
Some shooters love taking jumpers from straightaway looking directly as the basket. Dirk Nowitzki, for example, is famous for his trailing threes. It gives the shooter time to heat up and is early enough that he won’t rush any shots. On the downside, it’s further from the basket than the rest of the spots.
The last corner
NBA players are confident. They bet on themselves constantly (figuratively — we’re not attempting to start a gambling scandal here) in games and when signing contracts. There are major concerns that a shooter will be losing his legs or be right up against the clock, causing him to shoot less efficiently, when reaching the final round. But NBA players all imagine themselves as the best. Of course, they’ll put the moneyball rack last and assume their rhythm will trump any other downsides.
That’s the strategy for the NBA’s new and improved Three-Point Contest. You’ll have to ask the contestants exactly why they chose to put their moneyball rack where they did, but you can imagine it’s probably similar to the reasons above.

#44: Season 1, Episode 6 - “Louis In The Middle”
This week, Louis coincidentally saves big shot on campus Blake Thompson's life (who's clearly not 13 years old and only in this one episode) by stopping him from choking on a piece of steak, lol ok. After that, Blake welcomes him into his entourage -- He even calls Louis his "main man." But, it doesn't take long for things to go south. Meanwhile, there’s romantic tension between Ren & Larry and we need to talk about it.
Tumblr media
The episode opens in the school cafeteria with Louis doing some Marlon Brando impressions for Tawny and Twitty ("I made him an offer he couldn't refuse" / "I coulda been a contender" and "sTELLA!!!!") All quotes that would most likely go over kids' heads. While shouting "Stella" he whacks Blake Thompson in his precious face -- which is something you’re not supposed to do I guess. But turns out, it’s okay! "As long as it's not the nose. Anything but the nose” Blake says. That’s good to know. We learn that Blake is so popular because he’s been in a few commercials. That’s apparently enough to warrant celebrity treatment in Sacramento.
We get a pretty inappropriate quote around here. Twitty says that Blake did a Doc Dennier’s hot dog commercial a few years back. Louis sings the jingle "If it's not Doc Dennier’s, you're just eatin' wieners!" To which Tawny replies "I don't eat wieners." - Oh, dear God. Haha.
Blake starts choking in the middle of telling some arrogant story about himself, but people think he’s “acting” at first. Haha, why else would someone start choking mid sentence? For dramatic effect?! Louis realizes that Blake is actually choking and it’s like Hero Mode: Activated. Where did this side of Louis come from?! He rattles off information and gives commands to people around him like he’s a freaking EMT or something! He goes behind Blake to give him the Heimlich maneuver. Here we get a slightly inappropriate bit of Louis shouting "I'M THRUSTING! I’M THRUSTING!!!" paired with this image:
Tumblr media
I wish I wasn’t an adult and didn’t notice this.
After this, Blake is all "You saved my life. You're a genuine hero. Welcome to my entourage!" We see the character Ivan used as Blake's sidekick here. He’s only in a few episodes.. but he’s usually Larry Beale’s lackey. So using him here just makes him seem even more fickle and desperate. Which works, I guess. Blake tells Ivan to basically wait on Louis hand and foot now. You can already tell that Louis is letting this somewhat newfound popularity go to his head. AS UAUAL! Louis does some of his impressions for Blake and he seems to think Louis is funny........... for now. I hate fake people.
Also during this opening cafeteria scene, Larry/Ren conflict is set up for the subplot. Ren is Student Policy Monitor and thinks the school deserves better lunch options. I agree. Last time I checked, school cafeteria food is one step above what they serve in prison. She stands up and gives a little speech about her plans to improve the food.. but Larry keeps interrupting, cracking jokes, and mocking her.
Tumblr media
You know it’s serious. He’s giving her The Hand.
Twitty and Tawny become concerned about Louis possibly succumbing to peer pressure. I like this part because Tawny tries not to worry and says “No one knows the real Louis better than I do. Deep down he’s classy, caring, very very intelligent...” - It’s supposed to be a joke but it’s actually surprisingly true. Either way, she decides they should keep an eye on him.
The next day, Louis is telling jokes to Ivan and some popular girls at lunch.
Tumblr media
This is where the episode takes a sad turn. Ivan goes over to Blake all excited about how funny Louis is, but Blake says “Dude. Grow up, the guy’s a dork!” You can tell Ivan was genuinely entertained by Louis but forces himself to ditch him for the sake of staying on Blake’s good side. Sigh. After losing a phone argument with his mom about cleaning his room (like the big important celebrity he is), Blake just kinda stares at Louis with disgust. And of course, Louis is oblivious.
Tumblr media
Seriously, this guy is a 35 year old 8th grader. I guess that’s what happens when hot dog commercials are your top priority...
Tawny has been “observing” Louis the whole time. He sees her and asks "What are you, choppin' hedges?!" I always loved that.
Tumblr media
Tawny says she and Twitty are worried he's becoming a "pod person." I never heard anyone say that term before this show. And I never knew what it meant so I looked it up:
"A person pretending to be something they aren't, or an impostor. This is inferred because of the old alien movies where alien pods appear on earth and the "pod people" dispose of the humans and slowly reproduce the bodies, pretending to be humans."
Tumblr media
I honestly remember thinking she was saying “Pot person” when I was young and that Louis was secretly doing drugs or something, lol. I was like ~ooohhh this is getting Degrassi-deep right now!~ The whole conversation was Very Serious and ended with Louis getting offended and taking her concern the wrong way. He feels like they’re just jealous of him having new, cool friends. Oh, Louis.
Ren asked for everyone to submit cafeteria suggestions into a suggestion box. Which was a good little idea... until Larry decided to stuff the box with offensive things about her. Like, who tries that hard?! Oh my god. He must really hate her, or really love her and has a strange evil way of showing it. She decides to resign from public service. Larry finds out, and he's clearly upset about it.
Tumblr media
Charlotte (who makes her last appearance in this episode) and Ren reading through Larry’s messages. i.e. “Can you do something about the tuna casserole? It smells like Ren Stevens’ breath.” - Wow, Larry.
When Louis tries to do an Austin Powers impression for Blake the next day, he tears Louis down and says his 15 minutes of fame are over and he's done tolerating him. Nice!
Tumblr media
I just had to include this image. “Gagalicious, babehhh!”
Blake tells Louis to go hang with his own friends. Only problem is -- Louis kinda ditched Tawny and Twitty. This leads to a mirror talk! Yaaaaay!!!! I love how consistent these were in Season 1, wow! This time, he treats it like he’s doing stand-up:
Tumblr media
"For those of you keeping score at home... My new friends, they don't like me. My old friends, they don't like me. So I guess the score is Friends - 0, Louis - Really 0. I guess next time I'll think twice before I save a guys life."
Later that night, Ren's watching a romance soap opera when Larry shows up at The Stevens house to apologize to her. Yo, I swear to god. There is so much romantic tension here!!! He tells Ren that they've been competing against each other ever since the 5th grade and that she can't just give up. Because "If there's no Ren Stevens, there's no Larry Beale." WHAAAT?! It gets all awkward and Ren invites him to stay and watch the rest of the show with her. He says "No thanks, I think I've had enough soap operas for one day," and LOOKS HER UP AND DOWN with a sly smile. She's left sitting there like "ok :) ????" They're the best ship that never sailed on this show:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Come on, now! She’s all blushy and confused lol
Louis is all upset and wants to find a way to be Blake's friend again. WHY, LOUIS?! WHYYYY?! They're holding a school car wash and Louis sees a car about to kind of -- sort of -- not really, back into Blake and “crush him,” so he runs over to push him out of the line of fire in an attempt to save his life again. Buuuut, he just ends up getting water all over Blake and angering him. Louis insists “I’M SAVING YOUR LIFE OVER AND OVER AND OVERRR!!!!” but Blake yells “Stay away from me forever” at him in front of everyone. So that’s the end of that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tawny and Twitty observe this, as well. Tawny says “Louis’ constant craving for approval combined with his youngest child syndrome has basically split his personality in two.” - THAT’S SO SPOT ON THOUGH?!?! I love how they gave Tawny these lines. They really show how well she understands him.
Tawny decides she and Twitty have to go to “drastic measures” to shock Louis back into reality. They come up with a plan that involves Tawny as a damsel in distress tied to train tracks, and Twitty as an evil train conductor about to run her over. They plan it so Louis has no choice but to ride up on his bike and save her in the nick of time. He does, and this is their way of forgiving him and becoming friends again, haha. It's cute. Pretty unrealistic. But cute.
Tumblr media
Louis: “Isn’t this is the part where you tell me I’m your hero and ya kiss me?”
Tawny: “Don’t push it.”
Following their romantic-tension-filled heart to heart, Larry starts taking Ren's side and supporting her at lunch after she becomes Policy Monitor again. "You heard the lady! If you have a suggestion, you fill it out and put it in the box. Continue, Miss Policy Monitor..." he says:
Tumblr media
They’re so cute. Why didn’t they happen?! They totally could’ve turned this into one of those passionate mortal enemies falling in love tropes, lol. I’ll always be salty over this.
The episode ends with Louis sticking two carrots up his nose at lunch to assure Twitty and Tawny that things are back to normal. It’s adorable, haha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the look Tawny gives him! Awwwww. If you haven’t guessed... I SHIP IT.
So yeah! That’s it. I don’t really know what else to say about this one. It’s not bad at all. It’s just a little.... eh. It’s not bad, but it’s not amazing. This one is genuinely very neutral. It easily could’ve been placed anywhere on the list, imo. But, I just decided on #44. I really love the Larry/Ren stuff here. This is one of three big moments in the series where you really sense that they have weird repressed feelings for each other or something. I like it a lot and wish they went for it! Other than that, there are some nice Louis moments and development here (I love the mirror talk, for example) and I really like the subtle Louis/Tawny hints as well. But, yeah. This one is pretty chill overall.
As always, thanks for reading!! <3

Tumblr media
FOR THE NIGHT, BOBBI KRISTINA HAD A COMBINED REACH OF 2.2 MILLION UNIQUE VIEWERS P2+
SILVER SPRING, MD - October 10, 2017 - The premiere of TV One's original film, Bobbi Kristina, premiered at #1 among African Americans on ad-supported cable in the Sunday 7pm-9pm timeslot: (HH, P25-54, W25-54, P18-49, W18-49, P2+). The film now ranks as TV One's third most watched original movie premiere ever, across all key demos. The three airings of Bobbi Kristina on premiere night had a combined reach of 2.2 Million Unique Viewers 2+. TV One will air an encore presentation of the highly anticipated film tonight, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesday, October 11 at 10 p.m. ET.
Driven by Bobbi Kristina, TV One was the #3 Rated non-sports Ad Supported Cable Net from 7pm-9pm among Adult W25-54. This was also the network's best Sunday Primetime Performance since the record-setting debut of Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story (6/12/16). Additionally on Twitter, the #BobbiKristina premiere trended nationally, ranking as high as #3 nationally.
Beginning immediately after the passing of her mother, this poignant story delves into Bobbi Kristina's struggle to come to terms with Houston's sudden departure and the complexities of her own life. Starring breakout Joy Rovaris in the title role, Bobbi Kristina presents the first three-dimensional look at a story - and a life - that deserve better.  In 2012, Whitney Houston's tragic demise put her entire family in the worldwide media spotlight, with most of the glare falling on her grieving daughter, Bobbi Kristina. Krissi became one of the main characters in the story of Houston's death and its devastating aftermath as she struggled with her grief, her personal relationships, upholding her mother's legacy and her plans for the future. Bobbi Kristina offers a rare glimpse into the world of this young woman whose brief life and untimely end remain shrouded in mystery.

The NFL’s best remaining free agents
Many of the top names have already agreed to deals, but as free agency officially begins, these are the top names available.
The NFL’s official start to their new league year is here, but due to the league’s negotiating or “legal tampering” period, many of the big name free agents are already off the market. That’s because the negotiating period allows agents and teams to enter into contract talks even though pen cannot be put to paper until the start of the new league year.
Last year was a frenzy during the negotiating period, with most of the top players gone by the time the market actually opened. A whole bunch of deals were cemented right at 4 p.m. ET when the league year started, and that’s the case this year as well. Players can continue negotiating with other teams after agreeing in principle to a new deal — nothing is final until the contract is signed and submitted to the league office. But once something is reported as a done deal, there is minimal flip-flopping.
It’s likely this trend — the biggest players agreeing to deals before free agency actually starts — will continue.
That said, there are still plenty of good to great players still out there, waiting to find a team for the 2019 season. Below, we’re going to point you to the best still available — in alphabetical order — at each offensive and defensive position.
Quarterback
Signed: Derek Anderson, Nick Foles, Ryan Griffin, Taylor Heinicke, Brett Hundley, Matt Schaub, Tyrod Taylor Best Available: Teddy Bridgewater, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Colin Kaepernick
Nick Foles is getting paid a ton of money by the Jaguars, and after that the market gets a little bit stale. Obviously, the best available quarterback (Kaepernick) s probably not going to get signed. Another team will surely try and kick the tires on Blake Bortles if/when he’s relesed, while old standbys like Taylor, Fitzpatrick, and McCown are the more reliable of the group.
Others available: Sam Bradford, Matt Cassel, Mike Glennon, Robert Griffin III, Josh Johnson, Sean Mannion, Josh McCown, Brock Osweiler, Mark Sanchez, Tom Savage, Trevor Siemian, Geno Smith, Joe Webb
Running Back
Signed: Le’Veon Bell, Mike Davis, Andre Ellington, Frank Gore, Kareem Hunt, Carlos Hyde, Mark Ingram, Latavius Murray, Adrian Peterson, Zach Zenner Best Available: Jay Ajayi, C.J. Anderson, Tevin Coleman, Marshawn Lynch, T.J. Yeldon
There’s still a strong market for running backs, with young guys like Coleman, Ajayi, and Yeldon available. It’s a strong group of running backs, and even the players below all have shown they have something to offer.
Others available: Ameer Abdullah, LeGarrette Blount, Alfred Blue, Doug Martin, Alfred Morris, Ty Montgomery, Bilal Powell, Stevan Ridley, Darren Sproles, Jonathan Stewart, Spencer Ware
Wide Receiver
Signed: Danny Amendola, Cole Beasley, Josh Bellamy, John Brown, Jamison Crowder, Larry Fitzgerald, Devin Funchess, Adam Humphries, Cordarrelle Patterson, Breshad Perriman, Tyrell Williams Best Available: Randall Cobb, Michael Crabtree, Phillip Dorsett, Donte Moncrief, Golden Tate
The biggest names to change teams at the wide receiver position were not free agents — Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. were both traded — but there are still some talented pass catchers out there. Veterans Tate, Crabtree, and Moncrief are always looking to prove they still got it.
Others available: Tavon Austin, Kelvin Benjamin, Dez Bryant, Chris Conley, Pierre Garcon, Justin Hardy, Chris Hogan, Dontrelle Inman, Jermaine Kearse, Jordan Matthews, Rishard Matthews, J.J. Nelson, De’Anthony Thomas, Demaryius Thomas, Mike Wallace, Terrance Williams
Tight End
Signed: Dwayne Allen, Nick Boyle, Charles Clay, Demetrius Harris, Jesse James, Tyler Kroft, C.J. Uzomah Best Available: Jared Cook, Tyler Eifert, Austin Seferian-Jenkins
Most of what remains in the tight end market includes veterans who never quite developed as receiving threats or veterans who have a history of injuries. It’s not a great market, one of the weaker ones in recent years.
Others available: Darren Fells, Antonio Gates, MarQueis Gray, Jermaine Gresham, Jeff Heuerman, Michael Hoomanawanui, Lance Kendricks, Marcedes Lewis, Logan Paulsen, Richard Rogers, Dion Sims, Geoff Swaim, Levin Toilolo, Maxx Williams, Luke Willson
Offensive Line
Signed: Oday Aboushi, Jamon Brown, Trent Brown, James Carpenter, A.J. Cann, Jon Feliciano, Ramon Foster, Mark Glowinski, Denzelle Good, Jonotthan Harrison, Bobby Hart, Seantrel Henderson, Ja’Wuan James, Ted Larsen, Spencer Long, Cornelius Lucas, Bobby Massie, Mitch Morse, Ty Nsekhe, Michael Ola, Kevin Pamphile, Matt Paradis, Mike Person, Greg Robinson, Rodger Saffold, Ty Sambrailo, Brian Schwenke, Donovan Smith, J.R. Sweezy, Billy Turner, Daryl Williams Best Available: D.J. Fluker, Mike Iupati, Kendall Lamm, John Miller, Jeremy Parnell, Ryan Schraeder
As usual, teams did their best to re-sign their own offensive linemen. It’s rare that a high-end tackle or guard makes it to free agency, and when they do, they are quickly snatched up, as was the case with Brown and Paradis.
Others available: Jeff Allen, Joe Barksdale, T.J. Clemmings, Chris Clark, Nick Easton, Cameron Fleming, Ereck Flowers, Max Garcia, Garry Gilliam, Ryan Groy, Ulrick John, T.J. Lang, Andy Levitre, Jordan Mills, OT Marshall Newhouse, Cedric Ogbuehi, Tyler Shatley, Quinton Spain, John Sullivan, Travis Swanson, Jared Veldheer, LaAdrian Waddle, Josh Wells, Stefen Wisniewski
EDGE
Signed: , Anthony Chickillo, Frank Clark (franchise tag), Jadeveon Clowney (franchise tag), Dee Ford, Trey Flowers, Dante Fowler Jr., Brandon Graham, DeMarcus Lawrence (franchise tag), Steven Means, Brooks Reed, John Simon, Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith, Terrell Suggs, Cameron Wake Best Available: Ezekiel Ansah, Shaq Barrett, Markus Golden, Justin Houston, Clay Matthews, Shane Ray
Just look at the signings to determine the value of the EDGE position in the NFL — all of the top players got franchise tags except for Flowers and Fowler, who were quickly locked up.
Others available: Sam Acho, Jerry Attaochu, Connor Barwin, Vinny Curry, Kony Ealy, Eli Harold, William Hayes, Bruce Irvin, Michael Johnson, Dion Jordan, Matt Longacre, Aaron Lynch, Benson Mayowa, Pernell McPhee, Derrick Morgan, Alex Okafor, Nick Perry, Frostee Rucker, Derrick Shelby, Frank Zombo
Defensive Tackle
Signed: Tyson Alualu, Henry Anderson, Angelo Blackson, Carl Davis, Johnathan Hankins, Margus Hunt, Malik Jackson, Grady Jarrett (franchise tag), Jordan Phillips, Sheldon Richardson, Shamar Stephen Best Available: Christian Covington, Timmy Jernigan, Corey Liuget, Darius Philon, Ndamukong Suh, Muhammad Wilkerson
There weren’t many top-end defensive tackle talents available in free agency. The ones who have had recent success on the field either agreed to terms quickly, or were given the franchise tag.
Others available: Allen Bailey, Malcom Brown, Tyeler Davison, Dominique Easley, Mario Edwards, Rodney Gunter, Ziggy Hood, Ricky Jean-Francois, Zach Kerr, Brandon Mebane, Earl Mitchell, Haloti Ngata, Mike Pennel, Ahtyba Rubin, Danny Shelton, Brent Urban
Linebacker
Signed: Kwon Alexander, Ray-Ray Armstrong, Anthony Barr, Preston Brown, Deone Bucannon, Bruce Carter, Thomas Davis, Jordan Hicks, Justin March-Lillard, C.J. Mosley, Denzel Perryman, Craig Robertson, Adarius Taylor, Damien Wilson, Paul Worrilow Best Available: Mark Barron, Jamie Collins, Gerald Hodges, Brandon Marshall, K.J. Wright
C.J. Mosley, Kwon Alexander, and Anthony Barr got big-time deals to kick off free agency and there’s still a few quality players left on the market — especially for teams looking for run stoppers.
Others available: Stephone Anthony, Josh Bynes, Will Compton, Kyle Emanuel, L.J. Fort, Najee Goode, Mike Hull, Mychal Kendricks, Cameron Lynch, Kevin Minter, Mark Nzeocha, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Vincent Rey, Kelvin Sheppard, Nathan Stupar, Manti Te’o, Ramik Wilson
Cornerback
Signed: Robert Alford, Justin Coleman, Pierre Desir, Kareem Jackson, Kevin Johnson, Jason McCourty, Steven Nelson, Darryl Roberts, Bradley Roby, Eric Rowe, Buster Skrine, Blidi Wreh-Wilson Best Available: Ronald Darby, Darqueze Dennard, Jason Verrett
There weren’t many big name cornerbacks on the market this year, but there are still a few names that can help people. Teams looking for a quality cornerback that isn’t a world-beater, but still effective should be able to find some value in free agency.
Others available: Briean Boddy-Calhoun, Bashaud Breeland, Tramaine Brock, Morris Claiborne, E.J. Gaines, Phillip Gaines, Brent Grimes, Davon House, Nevin Lawson, Tony Lippett, Rashaan Melvin, Captain Munnerlyn, Brian Poole, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Orlando Scandrick, Sam Shields, B.W. Webb, Kayvon Webster, Shareece Wright
Safety
Signed: Adrian Amos, Chris Banjo, Antoine Bethea, Landon Collins, Tashaun Gipson, Colin Jones, LaMarcus Joyner, Tyrann Mathieu, Eric Reid, Earl Thomas, Kenny Vaccaro, Jaylen Watkins, Eric Weddle Best Available: Tre Boston, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Johnathan Cyprien, Glover Quin, Jimmie Ward
Yet another strong year for the safety position, and this time, they didn’t wait around to get deals done. Big names like Landon Collins and Tyrann Mathieu made it to the open market, and quickly agreed to deals with their new teams. However, there is still some meat left on the bone at the position.
Others available: Mike Adams, Jahleel Addae, Kurt Coleman, Chris Conte, Clayton Geathers, Marcus Gilchrist, George Iloka, Kendrick Lewis, Mike Mitchell, Reggie Nelson, Ron Parker, Adrian Phillips, Curtis Riley, Andrew Sendejo, Darian Stewart
