was reminded that people get riled up about this the way they get riled up about pineapple on pizza and honestly, as a knowledge org nerd, it is weird and unnecessary 😌
#like I do think it's annoying to be all haughty about 'um people are only buying books for the aesthetic' cuz usually they are not#and also cuz like... look. I as a writer do not give a fuck if someone wants to buy a book for aesthetic purposes. boost those sales#but MORE IMPORTANTLY SOME PEOPLE DO THINK IN SUCH A WAY THAT THIS IS A USEFUL METRIC FOR ORGANIZING.#ME FOR INSTANCE.#(I do not organize by color cuz my spouse is not one of those people but I would if I was just organizing for me)#trying to insist that a method of organizing can't possibly be useful if it doesn't work for you personally is clown behavior.#trick meme cuz you can't change my mind on this but that's cuz I'm CORRECT.#god the people who are like 'um if you care about how your books are organized or the ~aesthetic~ you don't actually like books'#drive me NUTS#sorry if you can't care about two things at once but some of us are perfectly capable of multitasking. good lord.

honestly thank you for saying that about Tamlin. I feel like it's a weird phenomenon the fandom does with most of the characters, where you either have to view them as Saints or hate their guts. In Tamlin's case I think that a lot of people overhate him to the extent of trying to make him out as evil as Amarantha, or on the flip side, act as if he did nothing wrong in his life ever. Same thing goes for Nesta or Rhys or Feyre. I think that only a few acotar characters can be categorized as "has never done anything wrong" (gwyn and emerie for instance) or "pure evil" (hybern or amarantha) and everyone else is morally gray, because those are the types of characters sarah likes to write (I mean, look at tog). This isn't to say that someone can't love or hate whatever character they want, even with a passion, but trying to rewrite the book to fit a certain narrative is annoying.
Anon, it drives me crazy!!!! This is why I never tag anything anti or pro - especially not pro, I'm already in the fandom, I am default pro-acotar series... And with one glaring exception (lmao), I don't spend my time on things I dislike to the point where I would need to tag things anti. Things are not so black and white, it's never that simple except like you said, in the case of Amarantha (although, one could argue that she was justified in what she did to Jurian because of her sister, so even there we can somewhat see her perspective!)
It just seems silly to me to act like we can read a book, make a "Good Guy" column and a "Bad Guy" column and sort the characters into them, and then call it a day. That would be so boring, and I'd also feel like the author had zero nuance and had never met an actual person before.
Loving and hating a character are totally different from this, you're right! I can and will love Mor and Cassian and Feyre and Elain, and say they've fucked up. God, I love to rant about Feyre in the Spring Court in acowar and I still love her character! Because it's not about a morality checklist, it's about being interesting and compelling and sometimes, being able to identify with the character.
If we have to choose between viewing the characters as "interesting" or "compelling" and finding them "good/right" or "bad/wrong", I know which one I'll opt for, every time.

the classic body builder physique jiménez gives dick is SO funny to me because it makes him look so female love interest coded, complete with unreasonable hour glass figure and booty-out poses
like ok i'm gonna start with a comparison between how he draws dick vs how he draws selina
there's that same!! exaggerated curve at the waist
the rest under the cut bc this is gonna be long—i'm pulling mostly from batman (2016) #137-138 (i've been keeping up with gotham war lmao)
he gives them the same sort of broad shoulders that taper down into a tiny waist
FURTHER, this is technically where dick's pecs are in comparison to selina's curves:
HOWEVER something about the way jiménez draws dick's lats also creates a curve lower down his torso that mimics the shape of selina's tits:
this exaggerated tiny waist is even more striking in comparison to how he draws other male characters
like don't get me wrong, he definitely favors a broad shoulder to slimmer waist sort of build, but never to the extent he goes with dick
take bruce and tim from the same chapters:
their shoulder to waist to hip ration is a lot more equal, they've got much more of an rectangular build, the curve in at the waist/hips is gentle
and i swear jiménez chooses poses to exaggerate dick's tiny waist (not quite booty-out poses but the same sort of vibe)
