#does this site still work like it used to?

What’s myr’s daily life like at the foundation? Know you've talked about her working with animals
Here's a general overview!
Myriad doesn't travel as much as he used to as a field researcher, mostly interacting with onsite anomalies rather than those in their direct environment except in cases where it's required. He changes sites every few months, but hates planes, so tries to sleep through flights.
Tumblr media
Usually he'll go through tests 2-3 times a day depending on how extensive the care is for each subject, what he's scheduled for, and what tests are being run.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aside from work, Myriad has a moderate amount of free time, but having his special interest woven into his job means that spending time with it still feels blended with work. So he comes up with new pranks to break the monotonous loop. He hates feeling stuck in a loop. Her therapist says that "doing something new" doesn't have to go that far, but she thinks it does.

That's Myriad's typical days at the Foundation :.]

On the language debate, I personally headcanon that the main language spoken at NRC is a common one. (?) (Like how English is the business language, or like how generally Native Americans had a common language that they spoke when trading with other tribes.) And Crowley or the Mirror used magic so that You was temporary fluent in that language.
After the ceremony, Yuu has to learn the common language and picks it up really fast (as one would in such a situation). Therefore, Yuu can still speak it when away from NRC.
(I also headcanon English as an ancient language akin to Latin, because I heard that Arabic was canonically an ancient language.)
[Referencing this post!]
Tumblr media
I’d buy that everyone at NRC speaks the common language to some level of proficiency; it’s like how international students typically need to speak the language of whichever country they hope to study in and need to prove their fluency in an exam beforehand. As I said in the original post, the light novel does mention a translation spell over the school, so maybe that’s part of the “magic” that helps Yuu to understand what the others are saying.
Now, it’s theoretically possible for Yuu to learn the common language of Twisted Wonderland in a year, but I don’t think immersion alone would cut it (especially since the main story is only up to like 2/4 to 3/4 of a year so far) . They’d probably have to put in significant effort outside of everyday conversations to pick up its rules (because remember that language isn’t just vocabulary but also grammar, syntax, and social conventions). Yuu would also need consistent feedback from people since that’s how one usually “fixes” their incorrect language use. It’s similar to how adults would correct a child learning their first language; ie a kid says “wadur” instead of “water”.)
One site I looked at suggested that, depending on the language categorization (I, II, III, of IV), it can take 24-92 weeks’ worth of time to become an “advanced” speaker. Realistically, just getting to the basic conversational level could be hundreds or thousands (700-2500+) of hours on its own—and Yuu has to do this on their own time between homework, going to classes, and managing all the issues that Crowley doesn’t 💀 To me, that doesn’t sound like a lot of free time. Counterpoint to my own point though, we also have to consider that Yuu is... well, technically Yuu can be any age you want, but most Yuus are implied or portrayed to be 16-18. The critical window for language acquisition is theorized to be anywhere from the first three years of life up to as late as 17-18 years. After this critical window, the ability for language development tapers off. So, thinking about that, Yuu's brain could still be very pliable and able to absorb new language (though they'd have to work quite intensely to pack in as much as they can before this ability starts to decline).
Something that I feel would be difficult for Yuu is that the characters often use slang (Cater, Floyd, Idia, etc.) and/or uncommon words (like Vil’s “pulchritude”). The former may not follow the standardized rules of a language or may be idioms (other non-literal meanings for common words), which could make it hard for a non-native speaker to understand. The latter would not be used that often, so Yuu would be forced to guesstimate what the word means. I’d imagine this would make fluency challenging, because as immersed as Yuu is in Twisted Wonderland, less frequently used words are harder to grasp.
Maybe Crowley cast a translation spell ON Yuu so that they can still converse with people in the common tongue whenever they leave NRC? Or, since the events basically occur in an AU, more than a year has passed so it has allowed Yuu more time to absorb the language. Language in TWST and how it works… It’s really interesting to think about!

Medic's afraid of the BLU Spy [especially since End of the Line] and Scout doesn't really help with that. He targets his doctor during "assassin training".
In which Heavy's across the base and doesn't take kindly to hearing his Doktor's much-too-dramatic distress.

Hrmm... put together a roommates quiz finally after years of thinking it would be an interesting idea lol.. Though obviously not meant to be taken super seriously, I just like thinking about this aspect of personality compatibility. Like yeah, maybe you could get along with someone just chatting with them, but living together is such a different thing. .. curiouse...
#Not that I think that many people would really care since I barely know anyone on tumblr in real life and would never live with random#internet strangers lol but... idk.. I made this to give to friends from time to time and thought... why not post it here too#just out of sheer curiosity if anyone takes it what the most common results would be and etc.#My initial assumption is that most people would probably fall into the 'maybe' category and that either extreme of 'best roomates'#and 'worst roomates' would be the least common#very long also since I like to be thorough I guess#THOUGH... upon second thought... tumblr is home of the like Weird Introverts Who Sit Inside All The Time.. so maybe it's more#likely to come across compatible poeple on here. given that many of the questions are about how meticulous#people are with their scehdules or how often they invite friends over or if they like to mostly stay inside etc.#(since personally I think having a roommate coming and going and bringing random people over all the time would be too chaotic#lol... I need a peaceful quiet household)#Also I kind of don't like the way uquiz seems to do results. I was hoping it would be a number tally? I used some sort of quiz making site#before where you weight the question responses with a number (so the 'Best' response is worth a 0#The worst is worth like 5 points. and all the in between are like 1 - 4 points or something). So then it is actually possible to have a#''perfect score'' category (someone who gets a literal 0 points). and also you could weight some EXTREMELY bad answers#to add like +10 to the score instead of just +5. And someone who got the MAX possible points would be the WORST compatibility. etc.#But uquiz seems to just be like ''which category did you score towards the MOST'. So someone can give some pretty bad answers#that are VERY non compatible. but as long as MOST of their answers landed in a 'compatible' category#then they would still be listed as compatible despite still actually having some dealbreakers in there. Which is also possible with the#'every answer is a number amount' ranking system too. but I feel like that one does allow for a little more customization#and accuracy (like making the dealbreakers add like...+40 to the score or something so that#there's basically NO way that someone could answer with one of those and still get a good score. Or the ability to have a literal#'perfect score' (getting a zero) etc.#BUt anyway lol... inchresting.. inchresting... curious to consider maybe making a uquiz#for the characters in the gameI'm making like.. which npc are you type quiz or something#now that I've made one and seen how it works.. hrmm hrmm....#(< game will not even be done for like another year but still thinking about nonsense like this lol)

#nothing is more depressing than working on my cv#because I just don't feel like I have marketable skills#and so many of the writing and research posts I come across on job sites are like ''you'll be working alongside ai''#I even saw a copywriter post that said ''you won't be doing any writing or editing. you job will be to refine and improve ai prompts#so that the ai can more consistently produce the texts we need''#like hello#the person doing that job is literally making themself more obsolete by the day#so here's the plan#I need to take any job that pays vaguely well#and use that money to either do short corses#or save up to go so my masters#that conclusion is inescapable#just. for now I'm still stuck on step 1 : finding a decent job#and (perhaps I'm being too picky) but post covid I do not want to go back into anything in the tourism industry#it's too precarious and honestly just comes down to entertaining rich people which pushes me further left every time i think about it#I considered joining the communist party. but 1) they're still part of the tripartite alliance with the anc... which is a no from me#and 2) communist révolution should spontaneously happen in industrialised countries with surplus wealth when the proletariat arise#south africa does not have surplus wealth nor class consciousness really. it's still filtered through post apartheid racial groupings#which is unhelpful because the black bourgeoisie are not our allies just because they're black#and trying to impose communism in a society without the surplus wealth didn't work out too well throughout the 20th century#so what does that leave you with#parties like cope ? plagued by the same issues as the anc ? no thank you#(I did also study politics btw which is why I've even considered these career paths)#(although I haven't worked in politics or governance since graduation so maybe that doesn't even matter anymore it's been years)#all I want is a job that pays fairly and leaves me with enough free time to do my hobbies#I do not have the grindset I'll admit that#which is why I've enjoyed the art industry#but again. it just comes down to entertaining rich people in the small galleries which is needlessly stressful#and the larger non-commercial galleries and musea aren't hiring atm...#and that's it. rant over I guess since this is the 30th tag

okay so, I thought the accessibility meeting went really well, but just now the annoying designer cam over and was interrogating me like "okay but this is an h2....but I can't make this an h3 because then it'll be too big!!!!" and started ranting about how this is a problem with our CMS (it's not, we use the same wysiwyg editor as like EVERY CMS EVER) and I feel like he's very close to just saying "whatever, I'm going to do what I want and you can just change it in development if it doesn't work" which drives me INSANE.
like, no. the client is expecting the site to LOOK PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY LIKE THE DESIGN. we can't keep letting him do whatever and then "fixing" it after and telling the client "sorry we can't do that."

considering how tumblr is generally pretty responsive to fixing or at least improving technical issues when they’re complained about en mass, it’s bizarre to me they haven’t gotten rid of tumblr live yet

pretty sure adhd has primed me perfectly for getting absolutely obsessed with video game optimization
#this is a little tiring honestly like please go back to being obsessed with making characters kiss again#mostly what this is doing is shoving me into pools way beyond my depth (simulators where i have to read Real Documentation)#(in order to use the programming bc buttons intuitive to normies are not a part of anything's base functioning)#it's pretty fun when brain is like 'whee this is enriching!!' mode but thinking abt it now is like. what the hell. dude that's tiring#people are right when they say that a human given no work to do will eventually make up tasks to do#and i do think that people are naturally eager to learn and absorb new information#are we innately good or evil idk for certain but i do think we are innately curious and eager to learn#it's fascinating to think abt too bc this is like a totally different dimension to hobby engagement than what i usually do#(aka create transformative works and post to tumblr/ao3)#i was brushing my teeth wondering how the people so deep into the meta aspect of video game hobby stuff archive like#their simulations their guides their spreadsheets and calculations and everything#since while fannish it's not on ao3 even tho i'm pretty sure that SOMETHING in there counts as valid to put on ao3#and then i realized 'oh. they have github.' and their own hosting sites and whatnot#ao3 really does display a very particular view of fandom that i'm realizing is not What Modern Fandom(tm) Is#so in this regard my adhd is serving me well by giving me interest in a broad range of things that relate to the hyperfixation#oh my god this feels like the hobby equivalent of writing good lab reports bc you enjoy writing as an art and the science you study#at least this documentation is very readable even if i don't have enough experience w compsci to be able to absorb#and maintain all the information on a single read w/o actually following the instructions/examples myself a few times#still it's kind of bothersome to be hyperfixated sometimes. like can i please just go back to daydreaming abt the characters kissing#花話#but yeah the fandom experience going on here is pretty different. it's less social i think despite taking place in a discord server#it feels almost like an academic conference or smth? hmmm. bc scrolling through fandom tags on social media#and then consuming fan content like that and interacting w creators directly there as a focus is very *social*!!!
