i think it depends on who you ask? i know there are definitely some people that see shisui/itachi as incest because they're both uchiha, but in canon they only ever refer to each other as friends? there's never any mention of the term cousins or anything to imply that shisui's parents are siblings with itachi's parents in any source material. personally i'm too caught up in the 'best friends to lovers' aspect of the ship to really consider much else

but at the same time 😭 i think that;s just how clans work in naruto? i don't think anyone could look at mikoto and fugaku and say they aren't both uchiha by blood cmon. not to mention the itachi shinden novels showing itachi putting an uchiha girl his age under a very long genjutsu where they both get together and have kids etc. uchihas marrying one another in canon isn't anything out of the ordinary honestly

I'm not surprised to hear that She-ra is problematic because I literally can't think of any media that isn't problematic at all (:'/), but why is She-ra problematic? /genq /lh

(it's okay if you don't want to talk, I'm just curious because I haven't really heard anyone mention this until now)

so yeah, there are a few issues with it. overall I wouldn’t say it’s SUPER problematic but I’ve definitely seen some consistent, valid criticisms (ones that aren’t just “I don’t like this so it’s bad” or “they didn’t represent queerness exactly how it fits my worldview so I’m sad”)

the main criticisms I’ve seen are from people of color in the fandom about racial issues with the show. I am not the person to do a deep dive analysis of those issues so I’ll paraphrase the main ones I’ve seen:

White saviorism: while the story itself parallels indigenous resistance to colonization, the main hero was originally part of the colonizing group. While she was brainwashed by said group and never actually colonized anything herself, she was still part of it and then suddenly became the hero of the other side. While not a direct parallel to the show, the way Adora goes from being part of the colonizers to being the mighty savior of the colonized, definitely echoes white saviorism stories from reality

She-Ra has to be stereotypically white in order to be the hero: We mainly know Adora as She-Ra. Adora has pale skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair. While that in and of itself is not a bad thing, we also know that Mara absolutely does NOT have those things. Mara is a brown woman with dark brown eyes- until she becomes She-Ra. When Mara transforms into She-Ra, she doesn’t just become a magical princess, she becomes a white woman. She has blue eyes, light skin, and blonde hair as She-Ra. She literally has to become white to become the savior. Example:

Catradora is an abusive relationship: Catra spent years actively colonizing, and terrorizing the rebellion, and Adora, Glimmer, Bow, and the Princess Alliance specifically- and within a few episodes she loses her memory and therefore becomes “redeemed” and suddenly she and Adora are kissing and yeah. I’m not against the relationship itself, but the redemption arc was done very improperly and haphazardly with little regard to the harm Catra had actually done.

that’s the gist of the issues I’ve seen, I’m sure there are more but that’s what I know of.

I had a question for you! How does one avoid or deal with an artist block or burnout? I've been working on my own art forms recently and have been considering starting commissions, however I don't want to risk losing my passion for art and creating in the name of the joy (and possible money) I would gain from making people smile and laugh and squeal at the goobers I doodle. /genq

I am gonna be honest. I am probably the worst person to answer this because my foray into Rottmnt is a total outlier when it comes to how much art I’ve produced. If you look at my production level before getting into this fandom I was lucky to put out art maybe every five months 🤣. Regardless I’ll try my best to answer lol…

I’d say one thing that works just for art block is having something on in the background. Something funny that can keep my serotonin levels up but not something distracting enough that I need to follow a plot. Podcasts are great, Let’s plays are great. Things that it doesn’t really matter if I’ve watched it a million times already, just the noise and good humor keep your mood up.

As for fandom commissions I’ve never really done that specifically, but last year I did have a small earring shop for the holidays and it was a pretty stressful but fun experience. I would advise if it’s financially possible maybe start small, don’t try to take on too much at once, because the business learning curve and stress to complete stuff on a timeline for the first time have a high chance of tiring you out, but if you can ease yourself into then you have less of chance of burnout while you’re getting your sea legs so to speak.

As for your actual question, a few different reasons.

One, I just. Didn't really care to change their ages very much from actual canon. I'm a minor as well (16) so I tend to have characters that are around my age LOL. It's just never crossed my mind that. The minor characters being involved in dark things would like. Add to the horror, I guess? Maybe cus I'm one of said minors IAHWIEBF I have no idea.

Two, I just. Like dark topics LOL. Always have. My interests involve bondage, taxidermy, body horror, etc etc. I just put a lot of that into my work, I love drawing gore and making art w/ dark themes (even bigger bonus if it means I also get to contrast it w/ bright visuals) addams family as a concept is honestly quite dark when you look closer at some of the jokes and situations, I'm just not very good at comedy so that kinda got lost which is a 'my bad' moment

Three, i didn't want to make light of specific topics so I keep and present them dark (for example, Leo stalking Usagi. I'm not gonna make light of stalking and abuse to keep a more lighthearted tone. I'm just not. So. Yeah). I think it's in bad taste to present certain things like that more comically, and I'll take the L of diverting from the source material a lot for it.

On a different subject- just some constructive criticism, your response to that anon left a really bad taste in my mouth because you made your dislike of a random ship about how the Evil Gays are trying to "advance their agenda" through gay shipping...I get what youre trying to say but that is a REALLY loaded phrase in relation to gay issues, as were several other phrases you used, for example, saying gay shippers are delusional, biased, and self centered for projecting their sexualities onto characters. Some of my favorite AoT fics are eruri and it's the ship I primarily engage with when reading AoT fic. But I guess you just missed that little detail. I actually started playing because I watched my brother play and thought it was super cool!!! I got it on my tab though and I can NOT play SV with touch controls I could never fish correctly and it was so hard to move around I ended up making like no money and only having a high friendship level with Sam and Haley because I couldn't afford to befriend anyone else (those two are my favourites hfdj). I had 0 progress on the community centre and I stopped by the start of year two. Flash forward a few real life years and I got it on my laptop which was SO much easier I bought a new fishing rod (had to sell mine because I had no cash) and befriended the whole town and finished the community centre and also got some mods so that I could marry Haley too and I have an in-game child and a fully upgraded house and a slime hutch on YEAR 3 AND I'M VERY PROUD OF IT FHJDKFJDK <333

Also sidenote I knew fishing makes a lot of money so I picked the Riverland farm on my tab but then could never fish so it was just really inconvenient - but now I have separate islands for all my things like, the animals don't need a fence they have their own island there <3

how does one bring up being a system to their therapist /genq

i would be straight up. i’ve been diagnosed for a while (i was about 14 when i got the bomb dropped. made finding treatment easier down the road, though) and i’ve had to move therapists as i’ve lived in different places, and honestly, i’ve developed the method of being upfront. if a therapists is unqualified to treat did, i don’t want them working for me. so i just tell them— i have DID, and i need a therapist with experience to treat and help me. have you treated anyone with it before?

if it’s a therapist you’ve been with for a long time it’s a bit different, though. i don’t really have experience with that specifically, but i would honestly just open up the floor and bring it all out. if i understand correctly, you want to ask about figuring out a diagnosis and treatment situation, and in that case it’s best to be honest about your experiences and be direct. hey, i think i might have a dissociative disorder and some buried childhood trauma and i’d like to talk about this with you— diagnosis, your experience if any (have you ever treated someone with one in the past?), and if you’re qualified to treat (this is important) complex, long term, childhood trauma.

please make sure you are specifying that, as treatment for that specific trauma is different from normal PTSD treatment. this is why EMDR has to be specifically modified for CPTSD/BPD/DID, and why some patients opt for the more specifically adapted brainspotting (similar to EMDR but for complex trauma) instead.

do not be afraid to drop a therapist. if your therapist is not working for you, what are they doing?! you need to figure out what’s going on and at the very least be treated for your trauma by someone who knows how!

if you are looking for a therapist or at any point end up looking for one, the psychology today therapist search can help with that. you can narrow it down by tons of categories, see their specialties, if they take your insurance, all sorts of things! i recommend being straight up with them in the calling/emailing phase and seeing if they have experience and can treat and help you. if not, onto the next one! i spent a couple of weeks looking for my current T when i moved, but he’s amazing. he’s been treating DID patients for a long while and knows exactly how to help me, and it’s thanks to being direct and making sure i was getting what i needed. don’t be afraid to try again or look around— they work for you, not the other way around.

(Jewish fan here) But what else can dream fans holding him accountable do? What the “more”? We can’t ask him to delete the videos or tweets because they were already deleted. We can’t ask him to stop having a racist sense of humor because he already has, even if the improvements just been in the past year or two when his fanbase was growing. When the n*zi edit was uncovered, poc fans with Dream follows dm’d him asking him to address it. He tweeted a reply before he was aware of it and the qrts and replies on it were filled with fans and non fans telling him he needs to address this. Many of dreams poc fans, including myself (I don’t look into his white fanbase, and there are a lot of poc fans with large followings) were genuinely disappointed, but also frustrated that people kept digging up old stuff to point out how Dream is a bad person because he’s already told us that he used to be really insensitive with his jokes and hold shitty views. We don’t need evidence. We know and, knowing where he grew up, kind of expected it. It wasn’t hurting anyone until it was brought up.

With other people, I do admit it’s annoying seeing old stuff brought back up to show how other mcyt fans don’t hold their fav accountable, but most of us aren’t hateful towards the actual cc about it. We’re just trying to point out the hypocrisy a lot of fans seem to have in the whole “holding someone accountable for past offenses even when they’ve changed and/or addressed it and apologized.” (Honestly Schlatt and Quackity fans are the most egregious offenders) A lot of us like Techno or Wilbur or Quackity, even if they’ve given no apology or shit apologies. I don’t want to look at all the uncomfortable stuff other mcyters did, but it is frustrating that this standard seems to only apply to Dream.

I agree with your point a while ago that it would’ve been preferable for him to call antisemitism what it was. I understand that he was trying to address all of his past behavior but it still would’ve been nice. Some other Jewish fans I’ve spoken to agree with me on that. I suppose we could ask him to donate to causes that help poc. I personally wish he would. (Even though he has donated to blm charities in the past, he could absolutely do more and I want him to. Just because I feel like I've had multiple misunderstandings lately ToT, here's a list of tone indicators I use a lot :DDDD. There's definitely more tone indicators in the world, but these are just the ones you'll catch me using from time to time. Friendly reminder, I'm slightly tone deaf ヾ(´︶`♡)ﾉ It would mean the world if you use tone indicators back, but you don't have to of course <333

/j - joking

/hj - half joking

/s - sarcastic(tho I usually use /j when I'm being sarcastic anyways out of habit since I keep forgetting /s exists ToT)

/lh - lighthearted

/exag - exagerated or exageration

/nm - not mad

/p - platonic

/gen - genuine

/genq - genuine question

/srs - serious

/nsrs - not serious

/nf - not forced

/pos - positive connotation

/neg - negative connotation

I don't actually mind dry texting, I've gotten used to not overthinking when someone does that with me (yeyyyyyyy!!!!) But do note that it is significantly harder for me to read the tone of your message when you're dry ToT. I'm a playful person, a bit chaotic at heart, and I don't want to hurt anyone because I didn't know you were hurt by what I said. So do say!!! ヾ(´︶`♡)ﾉ You won't be any less of my friend just because we're two very different people hahahahaha ♡♡♡

how does one go about shopping for pc's. i dont even need anything super fancy i just want something that will finally let me run video editing software and art programs without trying to brick itself every 20 minutes </3 and also minecraft. but nothing can run minecraft

Genuinely? I just wanted to make a place where people can vent out their frustrations with the species and the people in it without worrying about catching the ban hammer, since I know negativity isn't taken well in the server.

Sometimes it's nice seeing someone who actually deserves it get some light shed on their bs. Other times it's just petty drama, but hey, I did want this to be a place to vent, petty or no. Idk though. Sometimes it feels like people want to start shit just to start shit- it can be rough to sift through. Less about the species and more about just hating someone else, you know? When I know something's true/actually happening I do my best to document it and let people come to their own opinions, but other times asks just come in talking about stuff I've never heard of and all I can do it post it and hope they're being legit.

I'm not trying to sit here and act like I'm some kind of saint for having a blog like this, but the road to hell is always paved with good intentions ig. I really do feel bad for people who've gotten hurt through here that don't deserve it, and if you're one of those people and happen to be reading this, I'm sorry.

Been feeling weird lately to be honest. I dunno! I dunno. Bleh. Thanks for reading this far assuming anyone does, lol. Don't worry this isn't my final post or anything, it was just a genuine ask so I felt like giving a genuine answer. I really do appreciate the people out there who view and use this blog for what it is.
