Hospital Bed - Lolina: Origins

i am obsessed with this concept album its on bandcamp please go listen to it i need to not be the only person who cares about this

Rating Every Lotion I've tried so far from Trader Joe's

As a backstory to this post, I love Trader Joe's, despite its bougie, expensive nature. They have a lot of random fun products, and a few food goods that are for bizarre and inexplicable reasons the cheapest price around despite being sold by a mini bougie grocery store. (noodles at 99¢ for a 1lb bag comes to mind.) There's one near the library I work at, so I go there a lot after work. Their produce kinda sucks, so I usually go to a different grocers which is closer to my house for that. They do have theee best snacks and desserts however, (also box mac and cheese from TJ's is 👌) so I go there for that stuff. They also have an impressively large collection of soaps, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, etc. for a grocery store. I liked the first lotion that I bought there, so something possessed me to go, hmm let me try aaaaallll the TJ's lotions to find the BEST TJ's lotion. I have skin (especially on my hands) that is drier than the Sahara. (it's all the pottery). Note that this is not a TJ's ad, as I am in no way you know, sponsored by literally anyone. Without further ado:

The first lotion I tried ever from them was their "Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream" This seems to be a product they always have in stock, so it must be a staple product for them. idk.

Texture: Thick, creamy, medium greasy. You don't need a lot of this lotion when you use it. For your hands you probably need like, a bit the size of a small pea. I find it to be fairly pleasant, as long as you don't use too much of it at once. I give this an 8/10, docked only for the slightly greasy factor when too much is used.

Scent: This lotion is unscented, which is nice for all of us with sensitive skin. 10/10 love unscented lotions, because I don't have to worry about whether the scent is going to disagree with my skin.

Container: This lotion comes in a metal tube that looks exactly like those tubes that acrylic or oil paints (and fancy water color paints) are sold in at art supply dealers. It's a charming aesthetic and makes it easy to throw in your bag on the go, which is what I typically use it for when I buy this. It has a plastic screw-on top. The container is sold in the store in a cardboard box, which feels a little unnecessary from a materials use POV, but makes sense from a "This makes it easier to display on store shelves" POV. The flaws to this design are: the plastic screw on top can crack, making it difficult to put on or take off, and when the lotion gets low in the tube, the metal of the tube becomes quite hard and difficult to squeeze with your hands alone. This makes the end of the lotion difficult to get out of the tube. I haven't tried cutting it open, since I like my scissors and my box knife a little too much to sacrifice to that experiment. I am also fairly certain that this container is not recyclable. This is probably the worst part of this lotion. 4/10.

Moisturizing efficacy: When the right amount is used, this is very effectively moisturizing lotion. Not perfect, and it takes a few tries to get the right quantity, but I liked it a lot 10/10t

Overall Rating: 7.5/10. The major downside to this lotion is its aesthetically charming, but difficult to use packaging. It gets major plusses for being unscented, thick, creamy, and very moisturizing.

The next lotion is the "Nourish Antioxidant Facial Moisturizer". A thing that sucks about TJ's is that sometimes they pull a product from shelves and it doesn't return for like, months. I assume this is because their stores are small, and they want to make room for limited seasonal products (which they have in spades for every season). This lotion seems to be currently off the shelf, which is a shame because I actually really like this one.

Texture: Thin, medium grease, mildly watery, but like, in a good way that makes it easy to spread quickly. No complaints about texture here. Big fan. 10/10

Scent: This is also an unscented lotion, which all facial lotions should be imho. 10/10 for that.

Container: This lotion comes in a small plastic pump container. This is great for at-home use, but bad for on the go, but honestly I'm not taking it anywhere, so I don't mind. The pump pushes out just the right amount to cover your face with a single pump, which is great. I haven't gotten to the bottom of this one yet, so I can't say how it will do at the end, but for now, it seems to be chugging along great, and isn't getting jammed. Also probably not recyclable. 8/10.

Moisturizing Efficacy: The single pump is enough to cover my whole face, plus leave behind a tiny bit to moisturize my hands with. Because it is a little bit thinner (but not, like watery) my skin seems to absorb it pretty quickly, and is nice and soft after use. It pairs nicely with my cerave face wash and my super goop unseen sunscreen (which I literally cannot recommend enough -- absolutely worth the high price). 10/10, no complaints, would buy again (if they still carried it that is...😥)

Overall Rating: 9/10. Outside of my general distaste for pump containers, because I think they're somewhat wasteful, I love this lotion and am very sad that it seems to have disappeared from the shelves of my local TJ's. Maybe it will come back in the spring???

Next up the "Coconut Body Butter" This one's a year round product that they seem to always have on shelf:

Texture: This one's nice, thick, smooth and creamy, also medium greasy. It's pleasant to use for that. However, my tub had a few weird solid/gummy chunks in it, that I was not a fan of. I think they were, like, hardened chunks of the lotion that came from the lid as I used it? They weren't there when I first bought it. 6/10

Scent: Fairly strong, but definitely pleasant coconut oil scent that lingers. Fortunately it didn't seem to aggravate my skin which is a plus. I personally find the scent pleasant, but if you aren't a coconut person it's probably deeply unpleasant, as it lingers after use and you can smell it on someone else who has used it from a couple of feet away (ie: across the dinner table.) 7/10.

Container: This lotion comes in a classic round lotion tub. The tub is made of unusually thick, clear plastic and has a screw off lid. The lid was sealed off with a bit of "sealed for freshness" type plastic, presumably to prevent people from opening it in the store. When it was completely full on the store shelf, I almost mistook the thick, clear plastic for glass because of its weight. But there's something, uh, funny about the lid! You're actually not supposed to open the lotion by screwing off the lid! Instead it has a flap life in the lid that you're supposed to use. I find that those things are typically fragile, annoying to use and prone to breaking at the joint, so I just forgo using it like that entirely and unscrew the lid instead. Round lotion tubs are nice because you can get every last bit of the lotion you paid for out of them, and you can clean them out to recycle them or re-use them for something else. Nifty. 7/10 for the confusing lid.

Moisturizing Efficacy: This stuff leaves my skin fairly soft after a use, if a little greasy. I can tell that my skin is absorbing it because when I had to wash my hands with soap and water not long after an application, the scent and some of the smoothness remained. I think some of it was certainly washed off, because my hands were no longer greasy. It's not as effective on my hands as the hand cream, but it's pretty good. 7.5/10

Overall Rating: 7.5/10. Docked mostly because the scent is pretty strong and the container is weird and confusing. Overall decent product however.

Up next, the "Firming Body Butter + bright clementine scent". This also seems to be a limited lotion (maybe a summer/early fall product?), as they don't have it in my store now that it is December.

Texture: This stuff is thick, creamy and pleasant to rub around on your hands. It is probably the greasiest of the TJ's lotions that I've tried, and it takes a while to absorb into your skin. If you get this stuff on your clothes, you might get a light grease stain which I'm not a huge fan of. 7.5/10.

Scent: As the tube notes, this lotion has "a bright clementine scent". I love citrus-y scents, which was why I picked this one up in the first place. The scent is very strong, much stronger than the coconut one. However, I am a huge fan of the scent! Every time I wear this around my mom, she's always like "What is that scent?" but like in a good way, and I have to tell her it's lotion, after which she always seems to ask if she can borrow some lol. 8/10 despite the strong scent because, uh, I like the smell. I don't wear perfume, so using this lotion's probably the closest I'll get to perfume lol.

Container: This comes in a pretty classic, soft plastic squeeze tube. It's matte and soft to the touch, with a cute, bright color. It's easy to use, and will probably be very easy to cut open to get the stubborn end of it out when you can no longer squeeze it. The light color matte tube does stain easily if you carry it around, so it looks a little janky after a while lol. It is also definitely not recyclable, which is not unusual for every beauty product ever. 8/10

Moisturizing Efficacy: The skin of my hands is pretty smooth and soft after use, but very greasy for quite some time as it takes a while to soak all the way in. Because it sits on top of your skin for a while, if you have to wash your hands off very soon after applying this stuff, you'll probably be washing some of it away. Otherwise quite nice. Between the strong scent and the longer lasting greasiness I'm definitely not about to put this stuff on my face, but it's great for my hands after the studio. 7/10

Overall Rating: 7.5/10 Plusses include pleasant scent, nice texture, easy to use container and decently moisturizing efficacy. Minuses include a little greasier than I'd like, takes a long time to soak in and the scent is particularly strong. Overall decent hand lotion though.

For today's final lotion review, we have the Trader Joe's "Fragrance-Free Body Butter" I've only just bought this one, so I don't have the full experience. I guess It seems to be a new addition to their line up, because they were handing out samples of it in the store when I was there the other day.:

Texture: creamy, soft, moderate thickness, somewhat more watery, medium grease. It almost feels like meringue and overly thick whipped cream had a baby. 9/10

Scent: As the name suggests, this is unscented lotion, which I like! 10/10

Container: Classic round plastic lotion tub with screw top lid. It's the same size as the coconut body butter, but made from a thinner plastic. It also does not have the weird, confusing lid of the coconut lotion. Maybe someone at TJ's design realised that that was a bad design choice and corrected it for this new lotion? Either way, this is probably the best lotion container style. You get to use all the lotion you paid for (easily) and can wash it out and re-use it or recycle it. I've re-used lotion tubs like this one to keep bar soap in when I travel since the lids are nice and tight. 10/10

Moisturizing Efficacy: Pretty moisturizing, if somewhat greasy. Definitely faster absorption than the clementine or the coconut lotion. Good to use all over since it's unscented. Not perfect, but hey, nothing's perfect. 9/10

Overall Rating: 9/10. I think I've found my new favorite TJ's lotion (That's not the facial lotion. This one has the benefit of, like, still being in the store lol).

That's all (for now) folks! Stay tuned as I try even more TJ's lotions. There are like 6 more on shelf that I've seen and not tried. At least. I think there might even be some fun mini scented ones in gift packages. I'm always trying out new lotions, because, again, my skin is drier than the Sahara. This is a combination of the universe going "fuck you" to me and gifting me dry ass shit skin, doing pottery, which makes your hands even drier and living somewhere where it gets cold as shit (and consequentially dry as shit) for like a solid 1/3 of the year.

as of 9am today, 8131 palestinians were killed, 20438 are injured and 1.4 million have been displaced. it’s important for all of us to help palestine in as many ways as we can.

i also cannot stress how much just spreading awareness in general can help. staying silent because of your discomfort is not an excuse to sit by while a genocide takes place. when we learn about these events in history we often think “how was this allowed to happen?” but that’s exactly what’s happening now and it’s our responsibility to not sit by and let an entire country be wiped out. i will continue adding more ways to help to this post and i’d really appreciate it if anyone can spread this as much as possible.

my partner @800-dick-pics is a multiply disabled black lesbian in need of urgent funds for a service dog and the costs associated with travel!!

This is all so sudden and short notice, they happened upon this prospect while doing research and it fell into their lap, a puppy in a breed with the best temperament and size for their mobility needs. This is opportunity is huge for the independence of my fiancé.

For years now, my fiancé has been fighting with the medical system, I've seen them struggle to be believed by doctors due to medical racism, turned away and ignored at the ER, gaslight by ED clinics and multiple times I've physically caught them when they've passed out during a POTS episode. Their POTS EDS and CFS have rendered them housebound in this past year, unable to leave the house by themselves and it's gotten to the point where we both are afraid for their safety when they're alone in any capacity. I worry for them so greatly when I have to leave them for more than 20 minutes at a time because anything could happen.

This has been years in the making, even before we were together even. We've had to put this on hold for countless reasons throughout the years and at this point it can no longer be put off for the sake of my fiance' autonomy independence and quality of life. They're tired of not being able to hold a job or go out with friends or even just experience life outside of the walls of the house. This is incredibly important and this is our chance to change their life forever.

We need to meet this goal THIS WEEK, to be able to secure this opportunity including flight tickets, hotel room, training toys for the dog and food

We would not be asking if it wasn't so urgent, this can't be put on hold and all my fiance wants is to have a life again. Please help us if you're able, this opportunity means the world to my partner!

plot: you take a hard punch in a corner kick, turns out it’s from the girl you’ve been talking to for months.

warnings: injury, aggression from teammates, Player gets hit in the face and player is only given a yellow also I am NOT a doctor

You stared at your phone and the messages that were on it.

More specifically the girl behind the messages.

You had met Teagan at the start of the season on her debut as Liverpools goal keeper.

She had been a pain in your ass.

saving your shots left right and centre, it annoyed you but impressed you so much that you went up to her afterwards.

“Teagan is it?” You ask, walking up to her and she nodded “uh yeah, your y/n” she responded and you nodded “you know your really good” you told her “wasn’t fun for me but you know” you laugh and she laughed with you.

“I was honestly very scared to go against you” she admitted and you rose your eyebrows “really?” You ask and she nodded “watched you in the World Cup when Australia versed you, got those goals past us like it was nothing”

Oh yes, you remember that day.

“Sorry for kicking you guys out” you said softly and she shook her head “nah it’s all good, had me mesmerised to be honest”

You blushed, “yeah?” you ask and the goal keeper nodded “definitely”.

Before you could response you felt the hands of your teammate drag you away “Chloe!” You complained as she smiled at you

“No fraternising with the enemy y/n/n”

“Shut up”.

When you went to bed that night you didn’t expect to wake up to a dm from the Australian.

And for the first time in a while you woke up with a smile.

After a month or so of talking online with the girl your teammates noticed a change in your behaviour.

You were smiling in the morning, trying new things for breakfast and pestering Mary and Alanna for Australian facts.

One day Alanna turned towards you “Alright who is it?”

“Who is what?”

“Who is the girl that is getting you all…giddy”

You stepped back “there is no girl”

“There is such a girl, who knew our little German could find love?” She grinned and pulled you into a loving headlock.

“Fine” you grunted “there is a girl” you admitted and cheers filled the room.

“Who is it?”

“Does she play?”

“Do we know her?”

“Please don’t let it be a physio”

You turned to Jill weirdly “what?” You asked and she just shrugged before you turned back to your teammates.

“I’m not going to tell her name yet just in case it doesn’t go well, yes she plays and yes some of you know her well”

You gave away your hints before the team realised it could literally be anyone in the WSL.

“Can you at least tell us the team?” Mary asked, using her power of being one of the younger, cuter members of the squad.

“No.”

You were on a FaceTime with the Australian when she made the first move “Do you want to go on another date with me?” She asked after the topic of your worst date ever came up.

You smiled bright, a blush burning on your cheeks but you were so ever happy “I would love to, we can walking on the beach again”.

“Well we have the Liverpool vs City game coming up next week so after that” she declared “nah, I was thinking something fancier, we can go on a nice dinner and-“

“I want you to surprise me” you cut her off “I want to know what your creative Australian mind thinks of”

“Well mostly it’s you” she chimed in and you groaned, rolling your eyes “oh shut up”

Teagan laughed at your reaction, smiling at the way you reacted to her cheesy pick up lines.

Texts back and forth between the two of you did not help your nerves for the game ahead of you. But mostly you were more nervous for the activities afterwards.

You had ended up confiding to your national teammate Lena about your situation ship with the Aussie, not letting your club teammates know just yet.

But when the game ends and the girls see you walking out the doors with Teagan they'll find out who your mystery girl is anyway so with your blood rushing and head spinning you finally and well accidently tell your man city teammate and unfortunately Teagan's international teammate Mary.

"Really?" she responds to your quick words as you laid them out quickly, you just blushed harder before she gives you a thinking face "well that makes sense".

You furrow your brows "how-why- how does it make sense?" you ask, your arms moving with your words "well last international break she seemed much happier and that was after we versed Liverpool and if we weren't at trainings she was like stuck on her phone"

You stepped back at your friends words, You and Teagan had only successfully been able to go on one date together by the time the first international break came over, it brough a smile to your face realizing that she was in a similar state as you afterwards.

"I can help you two!"

"Mary I will not allow this to become a primary school relationship!"

Soon the game was here, you were lined up with your team in the tunnel, not in the starting XI but still in your gear as a sub. Mary was behind you, still the only teammate who knew about Teagan.

"look who's watching" she teased and you turned red, quickly turning around and smacking her arm "stop" you instructed and turned towards Teagan who was near the front of her line, she was already smiling at your interaction with Mary but gave you a small wave which you copied before you all walked out.

"that hurt" Mary rubbed her arm "deal with it".

You weren't subbed on until the second half, City were up by one as Lauren sent one through Teagan's fingers and into the net. You saw Teagan dust herself off as you ran on, her eyes fell on you for a second before going back onto the play which you joined in on quickly after.

Jess had scored not long after and you cheered after her, jumping onto her back with a smile. You wanted to look back to Teagan to see if she was doing okay but you were in your element, playing the sport you love and in this case winning!

In the 87th minute Kerstin weaved through the midfield and in between defenders as you lead towards the goal, her eyes darted towards you and sent you the ball, you jumped to header it in and then black.

The crowd watched as you jumped in the air, the ball hitting the front of your forehead and unfortunately the fist of Teagan's hands hitting the back, causing you to fall forward straight on the floor which you stayed.

Teagan all of a sudden didn't care about the ball that hit the back of the net and quickly dropped down to you, rolling you on your back so you faced up to her. "Oh my god-"

Teagan was cut off as your teammates pulled her away "Get off of her Micah" someone called out, Mary, cringing on the sidelines as she couldn't split her teammates and her friend apart. The words were catching your ears as you stirred awake to whatever had just happened to you.

Teagan ignored the man city players pesters and kept her eyes on you "please I just want to see if she's okay" she told them but Alanna pulled her back as medics ran on "Teagan she's not going to want to see you" she told her and Teagan crossed her head "I was supposed to ask her to be my girlfriend tonight" she told Alanna and the tall Australian stepped back and looked back over to you with wide eyes.

"let her go over".

Teagan ran over to you as the medics sat you up, The referee also showing her a yellow card but she didn't care.

"Hmm- Teags" you slurred as the girl came into your view "what happened?" you ask and the girl pursed her lips.

"Kinda punched you in the face"

"Oh" you said, not really gaining the information, a clear concussion on your behalf

Teagan watched as you were taken off by medics and went back into her box, the game quickly changed in the last ten minutes, the crowd was quiet and the teams weren't playing as hard, Liverpool excepting their defeat and man city not celebrating their win.

Not without you.

You were taken into the medics room before they quickly decided to take you to the hospital for a CT scan.

Meanwhile at the game, some of the players skipped the walk around the field to talk with fans and checked to see where you were. Hospital was what word was heard and Teagan along-side with Man city players were on their way.

Teagan drove herself, maybe going a bit faster than usual but you were on her mind, this was her fault.

She had had a concussion before, a bad concussion, it took her out for months on the team. She didn't want the same for you.

She was the first to arrived still in her kit, your teammates walked in five minutes later, quickly seeing the girl and walking up to her "you don't have to take pity on her" Kerstin said, Lauren quickly following "a quick DM would have been fine for her", their words were filled with pettiness which Alanna and Mary quickly shut down.

"They're not strangers" Mary said quickly and they all turned their heads "what?" Chloe questioned, Leia still stepping up to the Goal keeper "then what are they?"

"She's the girl".

Leia stepped back as Chloe gasped "oh my god, we are so sorry" Teagan just nodded, she ignored their comments her mind strictly on you "she was gonna tell you today after the game"

All the girls sat down, waiting for you "do you think she'll be mad?" Teagan asked Alanna who shook her head "she knows what she signed up for when she took that header, she knows the game" the blonde said and Teagan just nodded, still not convinced you wont cuss her out when you see her.

You sat in the room, looking at the scans, you would have a month off which you nodded your head at "I know it's not ideal but you have to be on a bed rest for about a week and you will have to miss the next international break for Germany" the doctor told you and you once again nodded your head.

"But you will be well enough for the Olympic but if you don't make it to the finals then you'll be out until the end of the season"

You sniffed, rolling your head back to stop any tears. You were sure Man city would make it to the finals with how they were playing, but if you missed a month you weren't sure if you would get any minutes on the film.

You had seen how time off had done for others, you didn't want that to be you.

You walked out of the room looking defeated as ever, your teammates were the first to walk to you, checking up on you with little questions before Kerstin gave you a hug, silently apologizing for her kick which you told her was not her fault.

It was nobodies fault.

When they all walked away, Mary softly turned your head towards the Liverpool keeper who had left to grab flowers from one of the stalls nearby.

"I thought you would have gone home" you said, relieved at the sight of her "and go to the dinner by myself?" she joked and you softly laughed.

You touched the back of your head "I don't think I look nice enough for a fancy dinner right now" you said and Teagan stepped forward her arm raising towards yours "Well personally I think you look amazing"

You blushed as she she tucked your hair you had taken out behind your ear "how long are you out for?" she asked "only a month" you smiled "that's really good Y/n" she started before looking down "I'm really sorry I just wasn't thinking and-"

You cut her off y quickly pecking her lips, distracting her completely as she widened her eyes "I don't blame you Teagan" you said, grabbing the flowers with one hand and grabbing her other hand with the other.

"So you're not mad?"

You creased your eyebrows "of course not" she let out a sigh of relief "well that's good, might have to cancel our plans though" she said and you smirked "how bout we order take out at mine?"

"yeah?"

"yes."

Help me take care of my Black Disabled Elder!!!

I have been caretaking for one of my elders (without pay) because there is nobody else but me to do it. I NEED at the very least $175 to be able to take them to doctors and PT appointments. Its getting urgent! I do not have enough money to take them to PT TOMORROW DEC 8TH!!! If there is nobody there to help my family member then they will be UNABLE TO HEAL FROM MAJOR SURGERY! Please just help if you can. I am so stressed about making this appointment.

So good news! We're in a 30-day shelter with a caseworker and help from the City of Encinitas Homeless Support Program to get housing with 30 days. It's a brand new shelter and we're all together in a room with the cats, and they're really eager to help get us out of our homeless situation.

Right now, we have about $1000 in money we can save up each month. If we can pay off the debts that my mom owes that she's in credit consolidation for, that frees up another $187 each month. If I can pay off my installment loan, which is four payments totaling $475, that frees up another $124 a month. I think my mom just paid off a credit card debt, but we have $100 debt that I think has gone to collections, $500 we need to pay on a card before that one goes to collections, and $300 for my PayPal 4 in 4 payments. We also have two payday loans I'd like to pay off before they're due at $600.

So if I can cover all that debt this month, we'll have well over $1,500 to put towards a rental payment in May, if we can get help with a security deposit and first month's rent through housing programs. We might be able to afford a two bedroom apartment in Fallbrook with that much. We'd need to come up with money to move our stuff out of storage as well, but a friend of mine has covered the big units until April 1st and may cover them an extra month if needed.

Any help would be amazing. We are so close to getting out of hotels/our car and into something stable. I'm setting the goal at $3000 for now because I don't have wifi at the shelter and can't check exactly how much my mom owes for her debt consolidation still.

But any extra will help with gas to get to places where we can get things we need (birth certificates, Lena's social security card with her dead name, Lena's psych eval, my mom's dental stuff, and doctor/therapy appointments) and food in case the snafu with my food stamps isn't fixed right away (we get three meals here, which is fine for me and Lena, but my mom is basically still on a soft food/liquid diet and they're still needing to get stuff for her and the gentleman here who has no teeth).

EDIT: We found out today that Lena is currently uninsured. The meds she was prescribed for her mood disorder are $1,500 out of pocket. She needs the medication badly. Please help?
