Once Upon a Studio (Series) Season One; Episode Fourteen: The Aftermath of the Boys Hang Out

Info: Milo and Jim are at each other’s throats after spending a night in prison while having a boys hang out which only lead Chicken Little and their friends to get them to put their differences aside and help Cinderella find her glass slipper and Aurora’s missing crown.

My so far one and only hashed-out Treasure Planet fan fic idea: nearly the same plot and events as the movie, *except*, it takes place a few years earlier, with a smaller, scrawnier, Still Figuring Out His Rebellious Teenager Mode Jim, who is NOT allowed to go into space on a mad treasure hunting voyage with just Delbert Doppler for supervision.

So his mom Sarah goes too.

Maybe Jim's dad left earlier than in canon, maybe the Benbow Inn has only been up and running a short time rather than being an established business, but either way, the kid is still in his earlier days of solar surfing and skirting the edges of the law (rather that blasting clear over those edges by his mid-teens).

Old Billy Bones shows up badly injured. The map is handed over. He dies, the pirates show up, the inn burns down.

But when Jim manages to unlock the sphere and reveal Treasure Planet's location, eagerly declaring that they can go and get Flint's Trove and rebuild, Sarah absolutely, positively, categorically refuses to let him take off into the unknown like a certain long gone husband without any guarantee of coming back.

...and she holds out for a good ten minutes, too, until both young Jim and Doctor Doppler manage to convince her to turn it into a family adventure.

I can see her awkwardly attempting to hold a conversation with Captain Amelia, hitting it off slightly better with the straightforward Mister Arrow, and settling into the kitchen with Long John Silver with minimal fuss despite Jim's wariness towards the man. There's the rough period of adjustment, of course, as the outsiders struggle to find there footing, but soon enough... There's a night where Silver's telling stories for the crew, putting his prosthetic arm to great effect, and at one point he starts in on a legend that Sarah actually knows. So, at a key moment, she steps up to his table and in her best bedtime story acting voice, participates. It turns into a great act, Silver easily going with the change, and between the two of them the gathered crew members are roaring with laughter soon enough. Even Jim's delighted by the show, and finally starts to come out of his sullen shell a bit more. The day he and Silver set out on a brief jaunt in one of the lifeboats and come back with matching grins is the day Sarah finally, finally, starts to feel she made the right choice.

And then they're caught in the grip of a collapsing star.

Everything gets battened down, all hands secured with lifelines, Sarah gets a momentary glimpse of Silver bracing himself over Jim just before they're pulled into darkness- and that final burst of energy carries them clear of the black hole. There's cheering, relief, high spirits... up until it's revealed they lose Mister Arrow.

Sarah abruptly feels the grief tenfold again. Of losing her inn, losing her husband, feeling so close to losing Jim... that night she has her first heartfelt conversation with Silver, actually telling him about the series of unfortunate events that led to her and Jim being on this voyage, and talking to him proves to be just as cathartic as venting to Delbert, maybe even a little more-so. He's honest with her in return (or as honest as the secret captain of a pirate crew can be at that moment), and the bridge of trust grows a little wider.

So of course I intend to be extra mean and make the punches hit even harder once the deception is revealed. The pirates stage their mutiny, Amelia, Doppler, Sarah and Jim (with stowaway Morph) barely escape in a lifeboat, and only after crash-landing on the planet below do they find out the map got left behind.

B.E.N is a blessing, providing them with a safe place to rest. When Silver shows up with his flag of parley, Sarah is the one to go out and speak to him, to snarl her anger and throw some of his own words back in his face. They don't part on good terms.

As night falls, Jim quietly asks what they're going to do. Sarah strokes his hair and promises they'll figure it out.

When B.E.N reveals the hidden passageway, Sarah orders Jim to stay put and stand guard for the others. She sneaks back up to the Legacy, engages in a frantic fight with bug-face, just barely, barely managing to trick him into cutting his own lifeline while the anti-gravity is deactivated, to go float away into the vast darkness of space just as he doomed Mister Arrow.

The map is secured. It seems all might turn out well after all. But then she gets back, to find the pirates have snuck into B.E.N's home. Delbert and Amelia are bound and gagged; Jim too, but he's still fighting, still trying to kick at the pirates holding him up.

Silver takes the map.

Silver can't open the map.

Silver tries to order Sarah to open it instead, and when she says she can't, he pulls out his pistol and aims it at Jim.

For a heart-stopping moment she can't speak, but then Sarah's fury comes flooding back and she yells that her son is the one who knows how to open the damn thing so put the weapon down. It gets turned on her instead, when Jim's cut loose, in order to force the boy to cooperate.

All four prisoners get brought along, mother and son kept out of arm's reach of one another until they reach the map's destination, and Jim figures out how to open the portal into the planet's core, into Flint's Trove itself. At that point, faced with mountains of treasure, the pirates pretty much stop caring, and both of them along with B.E.N are able to sneak off towards a decrepit old boat.

But of course, the booby trap goes off. All that treasure starts sliding away, the planet beginning to shake apart. Rather than race for the exit like his panicking crew, Silver sees what Sarah and Jim are doing, trying to get the small craft operational, and sees that as a good moment to step in himself.

Until Sarah comes at him with a sword, anyway.

There's a moment where she is very much about to stab him, only for the boat to get hit and send everybody tumbling. Jim, smaller and lighter, stops falling sooner. So it's Sarah, who goes falling off a newly made cliff, fragments of the core continuing to retract and separate and leaving her with no clear way to climb back up. Jim tries to reach for her, yelling desperately, and Sarah screams back that he is not allowed to come down over the edge after, he needs to run, to get out of there, NOW!

The last bit of metal she's clinging to slides into a sheer surface. Sarah drops.

And Silver catches her.

I'm still fiddling with their grand escape from the exploding planet and what happens after, what sort of ending would feel the most satisfying after the moments of apology and reconciliation and if you ever point a weapon at my son again, Silver, then so help me moment that I *have* to include. Maybe Sarah rebuilds the inn, with a certain cook hired on. Maybe she decides the space-faring life wasn't so bad, and decides to go see more distant stars with Jim by her side. However it turns out, the Hawkins pair are sure to have some more adventures together.

About: Sora with her friends, Kai, Ryu, kwazzi and peso accidentally hit into a dimension without her using her fantasy heart key. The fantasy heart group ended up in a world of pirates and crew members on a mission to get gold. But then queen Lucifer and prince Hamada went to their world to destroy them! With the help of their new friends, they can beat the queen and the prince and the heartless monsters together.

Kwazzi: rob rackstraw (a pirate troublemaker who always gets himself and the team caught easily. She gave silver a snack but he food poisoned him accidentally)

Peso: Wayne Grayson ( a penguin doctor who takes care of injured people especially his team. He is also a caretaker especially to silver and his upset stomach)

Ryu: Joe mele (the oldest in the group; he the opposite of kwazzi. He acts like a leader and somehow gets jealous of Sora)

Kai: Ariel winter (she the second youngest in the group; she loved Ryu and Sora as her siblings. She can be a little off with kwazzi after what he has done to silver)

Jim Hawkins: Joesph Gordon Levitt (the leader of the mothership; he also supports for silver to make him feel better. He’s the leader of the ship)

John silver: Brian Murray (a cook and a cyborg who accidentally got his stomach upset thanks to kwazzi)

Delbert Doppler: David Hyde pierce (a doctor who’s friends with peso and also cares and worries about silver)

Captain Amelia: Emma Thompson ( she’s the captain of the team. She also wants to support him for making him feel better)

B.E.N: Martin short (a robot who’s friends with Jim Hawkins and Sora on their mission)

Morph: Dane. A. Davis ( a bubble and slivers sidekick)

Sarah Hawkins: Laurie metcalf (Jim Hawkins single mother who is always on Jim’s and Sora’s side)

Prince Hamada: Michael buble (queen Lucifer’s son who is sidekicks with her and wanted to be famous mostly his mom wanted to be famous)

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW

Delbert Doppler is based on Dr. Doppler from Treasure Planet. He is a 34 year old gifted human, astronomy professor, and uses he/him pronouns. He has the power of genius intellect. Delbert is portrayed by Jonathan Bailey and he is open.

CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

Ever since he was a young kid, Delbert was convinced he was an old soul. He never really got along well with his peers, people his own age never seemed to be interested in the same things he was or, more likely, they didn't care about the machinations of the universe in the way he did. They didn't have the same fervor but that was fine! He'd rather be a loner than an idiot and one day, he knew he'd find his people. The ones who weren't satisfied with an answer without asking at least one hundred times why? and finding out the answer to that. There were mysteries out there among the stars and Delbert was not the type to ever be content without solving each and every one of them. Now, did that make him a fearless adventurer in pursuit of the truth? Absolutely not. To say Delbert was scared of most things would have been an understatement but, as long as the right precautions were taken and the mission was important enough, the doctor was willing to put his life on the line...as long as the odds of survival were close to one hundred percent. Over one hundred percent would be even better! It shocked no one in Delbert's life when his best friend was the owner of his favorite tavern, a woman twenty years his senior, but he got along with Sarah. He cared about her and her son. For so long, people had told him that he was more robot than person, caring more about books and theories than actual people but they didn't mind! They let him be awkward and ramble about the stars and in turn, he listened to what their lives were like and he finally understood that intelligence wasn't always the answer; empathy was. Feelings were. He's not perfect at it, but he's trying and he's learning and what more could you ask for? When the news arrived that Jim and Morph were missing, Delbert was the first to volunteer to try and find them; they were his family as far as he was concerned. If Jim was in trouble, he would never let Sarah search for him on her own. He might not have a ton of friends but the ones he did have, Delbert would protect with his life even if it meant getting trapped here in Evermore without a route into the stars. It was worth it and he didn't' doubt that one day he would be back up in the galaxy.

Delbert is a big fan and he loves spending afternoons running through theories with Milo ❀ Jessica Liu: At the end of the day, Jessie is fun and knows how to interact with people and have a good time - something he's never been particularly good at ❀ Marianne Hunter-Thornberry: There is something about Marianne that reminds Delbert of Sarah, maybe it's the strong mom gene or something but he can't help but be warm towards her whenever they meet

Chapter 10: start of the voyage

They headed to the spaceport in the early morning to look for whoever wanted to hire a crew. Sam looked around with Morph by his side until he saw a dog-like guy who looked around. "Alright Morph. Let's see if that's our guy." Morph chirped and they went over to him. "Hello sir. Can I help you?", asked Sammy as politely as he could. "Oh. Yes...yes you can. I'm looking for a crew. For a special mission.", said the male. "Oh! My name is Doppler by the way. Doctor Delbert Doppler.", he introduced himself and held out his hand for Sam to shake it. "Well...I'm Sam and you are lucky. My captain is looking for a job we could do. I can introduce you to him if you like.", smiled the teenager. Doppler nodded and they walked over to where Silver waited. "Captain. I met someone who is looking for a crew.", Sam shouted to Silver. "Aye. Good job lad. How can we help ya sir.", Silver asked and smiled. "Hello. I'm Doctor Delbert Doppler and I need a crew for a special mission.", answered Doppler. "What kind of 'special mission'?" Doppler was thinking about how to put his words but finally answered. "We are trying to find a planet.", he said shortly. 'That's our guy', Sammy thought. "And we're lookin' for a job. When will it start?", laughed the cyborg. "Tomorrow. Nine in the morning. By the way...what's your name sir?", asked the canine. "Just call me Silver, doc.", he simply answered. "And don't worry. Me and me crew will be there. What's the name of the ship?" Doppler pointed over to a big ship. "This one. The R.L.S Legacy." Silver nodded and repeated that they will be there before they parted their ways with him. They searched and gathered everyone together again and explained them the plan. "Alright. We will go ta the ship and check us in. C'mon pup.", said Silver after everything was clear. They headed over to the Legacy and came on deck. "Excuse me...no one is allowed on this ship.", told them a deep voice behind them. The two guys turned around and faced the first mate. "Hello sir. We...uhm...we were hired as crew for the voyage. Well...the others aren't here. Just me and my captain.", answered Sam nervous. The tall male mustered the teenager and turned to face Silver. "I'm Mr. Arrow, the first mate. The captain is currently in her quarters. I will introduce you to her. Follow me.", Mr. Arrow said. Sam and Silver nodded and followed the first mate to the captains quarters. "Captain. Those are two of the crewmembers who will come with us during the voyage." Sam looked at the captain surprised. He didn't expect the captain to be a woman. She mustered Sam too and introduced herself. "I'm Captain Amelia and I will be the captain on this voyage. Who are you?", she asked directly. "I'm Silver and this lad here is Sam.", answered Silver and put his hand on Sammy's shoulder. Captain Amelia looked at Sam and turned around again to sit down. She puts her head on her hands. "I expect you to refer to me as Captain or ma'am. Is that clear?", she then said to Sam. "Yes ma'am.", answered Sam immediately. Amelia nodded and kept going. "I expect you and your crew exactly 6 o'clock in the morning to stock the shelves and make everything ready, understand?" The two males nodded and were send out after. "Went better than expected...", said Silver on their way back to the ship. Sam agreed with him and after they ate dinner and told the others the time they went to sleep.

Following my original concept of Captain Amelia and Doctor Delbert Doppler’s daughter [Treasure Planet], I wanted to draw a scene with her inhabiting. Here she is enjoying her time on her space boat ;D

This is the first time I’ve ever drawn a proper background and scene so forgive the mistakes. I hope you like my sweet child oml I love her so much.

Yes!!! I finally finished it!!

A (probably weird) thought about Treasure Planet's worldbuilding: we see the flying manta rays all over space port Montressor, and we get a shot of a school of orcus galacticus; basically the Etherium versions of seagulls and dolphins/orcas; So, following that logic, there is a possibility that somewhere in the Etherium there are giant ass space manta rays (or those cursed-looking ray-sharks paleonthologists have been crazy about) pulling double duty as space albatrosses. Honestly, a lot of ancient marine life could've fit the TP aethetic with a bit of customisation (but a lot of big, thriving sea creatures would imply the existence of space plankton or something close to it in size maybe even including sailors)

On a cuter note, Imagine Delbert gushing about the space mantas during the voyage, and then later one actually gets close enough to RLS Legacy to be observed; Doppler gets called up on deck, assuming there is some astrophysics-related hangup happening, but instead captain Amelia goes "I've heard you wanted to see a space manta with your own eyes, Doctor?", points him in the right direction and watches the fireworks. Bonus points: so does everyone else (who isn't busy)
