another Deaf steve steddie/fruity four au For Your Consideration

this one takes place in the present day btw

steve has been profoundly deaf his whole life. his parents have always been ignorant to Deaf culture, attempting to mainstream him, convince him to get cochlear implants, put him through intensive speech therapy, etc. then after steve graduates, he moves out, cuts contact with them, finds a job so disappointing that it repels them from trying to reach out to him in the first place, and tries to rebuild a life for himself without all the audist mindsets he grew up surrounded by.

then at his first job, he meets robin buckley, who went to his high school and is fluent in ASL, because she's a coda. she acts as a bridge between steve and the culture he was depraved of as a kid, teaching him Sign and inviting him to dinners with her family and just in general, being a really big source of comfort to him. he meets her girlfriend nancy, who is hearing but has a younger brother who's hoh. mikes been tutored by mr. buckley his whole life, which is how his family and robins met. they all have connections to Deaf culture in their own respects, and that's what makes the trio so close.

years go by, mike graduates, and steve decides to get a college degree in teaching, because after meeting mikes friends, he realizes he's good with young people. he graduates college and starts teaching at a high school in a nearby, much larger city. rumors immediately start flying about this young, brand new, super attractive teacher who not only teaches a Deaf/hoh class, but also teaches ASL at nights for anyone who's eager to learn.

enter eddie munson, the larger than life, unconventional, very gay music teacher at the same high school as steve. eddie's uncle is hard of hearing, but the two of them never bothered to learn ASL until now, since waynes hearing is getting significantly worse and he knows it'll likely be gone before the next year is up. so he and eddie decide to join steve's night class.

and eddie not only recognizes this dashing new teacher, but also decides right off the bat that he's cool enough, and also quite pretty. as soon as eddie's mastered introducing himself and making small talk, he worms his way into steve's space and decides they're going to be friends.

they bond over a lot. bad childhoods, the teaching life, and, toeveryones shock, their shared love of metal music. eddies always been a huge metalhead, and steve really likes how expressive it is, and that no matter where it's playing, he can still experience it because it's loud and imposing by nature. on weekends, they start looking for local shows to go to, which turns into steve using it as an excuse to drill eddie on the different signs he's been learning when he hears the sorresponding words during the songs. which then turns into eddie looking up on google in his spare time how to translate different songs into ASL so he can impress steve.

and steve is impressed by the vigor of his coworker/student/friend. he tells robin and nancy about eddie, and the two of them are cautiously optimistic, because yes, it's clear that eddie cares about being invested in steves world and native language. but they're also worried that eddie's only learning as rigorously as he has so he can take advantage of steve in some way. but then they meet eddie for the first time and are immediately enamored by him, by this charming, loud, and really sweet guy who is the exact opposite of steve in several ways.

then let's say prom rolls around. steve is on a committee with miss cunningham, one of his students and the special ed teacher at their school, to come up with managing the accessibility for the event. eddie is on a committee with mr argyle, the art teacher, to curate and dj the playlist for the event. all the happy couples get there, everything is going according to plan, and then while it's argyles turn to dj, eddie asks steve to dance. and frankly, who is steve to refuse eddie a dance? even though he can't hear what they're dancing to, he lets eddie take the lead. they both have a good dance.

and by the end of the night, both are feeling decently optimistic about next monday. unbeknownst to them, the students of both their classes are absolutely buzzing with gossip. "mr munson?? with mr HARRINGTON??? DANCING CLOSELY TOGETHER AND HAVING A GOOD TIME????" and this is the last thing any of them expects, but a few weeks after the dance, the rumors of them dating/liking each other die down.

and then they don't. because eddie and steve actually DO start dating. they go on double dates with robin and nancy, go to oodles more concerts together, go pretty much anywhere they can that doesn't tax their budgets or their schedules.

robin and nancy get married. they have the ceremony with an interpreter, and eddie and steve go as each other's dates. it gets them both thinking about marriage, moving in, doing real adult shit with one another other than dates and banging. for many many months, they've been decided that they want to be married, but they're both too chicken to make a move.

until eddie does. and at this point eddies so fluent in ASL that it's basically his second language. sometimes steves students hang out in his classroom during the lunch hour just because they know they can talk to him (and because he's outrageously cooler than their polo-wearing, black coffee drinking, teacher). so they're definitely on board with the idea that eddie and steve are made to be together forever.

it's after a school trip that eddie proposes. he can't very well sign with a ring in his hands, but he still gets down on one knee, right in the middle of the museum with a bunch of obnoxious highschoolers surrounding them, and it's not anything insanely cliché but it's the most romantic thing that's ever been done for steve, and the most romantic thing eddies done at all. he doesn't use simcom, so only steve knows the specifics of what eddie says to him, but all the students can guess what's happening.

in a similar fashion to robin and nancy, steve and eddie have a deaf accessible wedding. they say their vows in Sign. they dance barefoot when the time comes for it, so steve can feel the music while he's being led by eddie. at the end of the evening, they, robin, and nancy ditch for fast food. I imagine their honeymoon was spent somewhere quiet, near enough to a concert venue if the two decided they want to go to a rock show. they definitely do

I read your answer about R choosing her (pathetic indeed) man over a friend with regards to the T bashing, and got kind of frustrated with R. Girl, wasn't he the one (like the only one) who publicly defended you when it counted?

I don't want to judge her too harshly because:

1) The amount and the scale of the hate that she was getting then and that T is getting now are really different

2) For all we know R might have wanted to comment on that but T herself told her to abstain from it (though somehow I doubt that was the case there).

Also, it's not like she has to feel forever indebted to T for his support (T himself hardly would want her to feel this way, I think) but this situation still doesn't feel right.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Tarot 2.0’s original theory back in Nov 2023 is correct.

There’s a pattern to R’s Twitter activity. Idk if anyone else has noticed but anytime R likes T / Zeglyth / Snowbaird content, she would almost always like something about J / Sejanus / WSS right afterwards. Or vice versa. Basically T and J, with herself sprinkled in sometimes, have dominated her twitter activity for the past 6 months.

Tarot 2.0’s theory is that they both hold equal emotional value in her life. Someone else (maybe Tarot X.0, Tarot Red, Green Psych or 🎉 Anon lol) mentioned that T supports her emotionally and intellectually while J provides a sense of familiarity and secure. All very important to her, split between two different people.

J used to provide all four values in her life but T does a much better job at being there for her emotionally and intellectually so he’s filled that role for R. Now in her mind, that’s normal. You have different friends for different things. It’s normal to have a friendship and a relationship. But the issue is she doesn’t just see T as a friend. He’s not like Mike F or DJ who she considers great male friends too — T has more value in different way. And I don’t think she knows how to handle that.

This is all speculation ofc but I think she’s really struggling to put T in “the friendship only” box like her other male friends and can’t do that. T also refuses to put himself in the friendship box. Every video where he says the word “friend” concerning her, it sounds like he’s chewing through glass to say it. She’s obviously very sensitive about their friendship and it’s definitely because she doesn’t want to confront her own feelings about zeglyth, T or however else she feels. It doesn’t help that T is more popular than J. She gets a ton of positive attention anytime she mentions T and she’s struggling with that too. Deep down, she knows why and hasn’t faced the truth.

A-T-4 005 Manuel Göttsching - E2-E4

I'm going straight in with what is probably the most enduring and influential pieces of electronic ambient music of 1984. Of all of Manuel Göttsching's compositions E2-E4 was one that has crossed over to fans of Dub Reggae, Disco, Prog Rock, Techno, Vapour Wave, and a many more musical styles

Any nerd will tell you it was recorded in December 1981 but it didn't see a release date until 1984. E2-E4 is a performance recorded for himself in a single take one December evening. Its intention was to help Göttsching wind down from a recent long tour. "“I was flying to Hamburg the next day and I thought I’d record something to listen to on my Walkman during the flight,” says Göttsching. The piece was improvised and entirely in the moment."[2] There was something about the recording that he couldn't just shelve alongside the many other tapes he'd made for this purpose over the years, he knew he'd hit on something different and special. In interviews from the late 2010s Göttsching continually highlights his delight at how well the recording had come out from a technical point of view. When a friend said he would love to release something by him on their new independent record label E2-E4 was ready to go. Göttsching was a key member of Ash Ra Tempel and he released solo work as Ashra he decided not to do that with E2-E4 and for the first time puts something out under his own name

The initial reaction in Berlin was negative, it was described as "muzak"[2]. In a 2019 interview with LoudAnd Quiet, Göttsching said "“The newspapers said I have not understood anything in the modern developments of electronic music,” Göttsching says of the initial reactions from Germany. “They said I should better listen to Depeche Mode.” The Berlin Magazine apologised to Göttsching a decade later, saying they probably made a big mistake."[1] Luckily E2-E4 was picked up by djs in New York, all articles point at Larry Levan introducing it into the New York club scene of the 1980s. “I was a bit surprised people were actually dancing to it,” says Göttsching now. “I didn’t record it in the sense of a dance piece. The drums were very in the background, and it’s not really a ‘bom bom bom’ bass”[1]

Like many people I first heard E2-E4 when it was used as the backbone of 1989 italo house classic Sueno Latino. It was hidden in plain sight as Balearic Mike discovers "One early Italian pressing [of Sueno Latino] on DFC even names the track, E2-E4"[3]

Manuel Göttsching died just over a-year-ago on December 4, 2022

Last year the supermarket chain ASDA did a range of homewares, duvets/bathmats/etc in a checkerboard with the same coffee and cream colour way that the sleeve of E2-E4 has, it reminded me of the record

Color me curious about if your RGYP series will include elements from the WarioWare/Land series! Don't get me wrong, I love how youve characterized Wario (him being the weird uncle was a nice touch!), but his franchise has a fair lot of interesting characters, adventures and showcases his goofy yet effective abilities (like turning into Springy Wario when he's crushed, Count Wario when he's attacked by bats or his King Dragon hat, the Shoulder Bash, etc)

Given the backstory you devised for him, maybe the WarioWare staff are old workmates of his from his travels. Like he bartended in the lounge Mona was a singer in, he was a DJ in a club and befriended a regular named Jimmy T, he briefly worked as a Lab Assistant with Dr Crygor and Mike, was a sort of uncle-mentor figure to a wayward Ashley etc

Watching the latest WarioWare game just piqued me curiosity is all ^^

What color would you associate 'Curious' with? Hmmmm...

Anywho! To answer you question, yes, I've been trying to figure out how to incorporate more of the WarioWare/Land characters into the YPRG series. I feel that for a series that supposed to be about all of these characters, I've focused a lot on the twins. Which sort of make since, given the situation. But the other brother's have been lacking in background creation.

There are a few character from the WarmWare/Land that I'm trying to integrate in some way. The damage from never playing the games is not fully knowing any of these characters.

Chapters 11 and 12 are live!

December 24, 1990

Steve, still in his pajama pants and a soft grey sweatshirt, walks into his already occupied kitchen at 8:30am, seeking coffee and maybe a Christmas cookie or two. Nancy and Robin are both fully dressed, slacks and a pastel sweater for Nancy, a t-shirt and flannel over jeans for Robin. The little portable radio on the counter plays softly, “Silver Bells”, Steve thinks.

“Where are you two going so early?” He asks as he fills his mug. He knows it’s only a matter of time before they leave his house for one of their own, and he tries really hard not to think about it. About how everything is changing.

“Karen asked for everyone’s help doing last minute wrapping for the toy drive tonight,” Robin answers. She and Nancy share an affectionate, exasperated glance.

“The other person who volunteered bailed,” Nancy rolls her eyes.

“So, you guys, Mike, and Holly have to pick up the slack?”

“You got it,” Robin pokes him just above his belly button. He swats her away, and they tussle around the kitchen under Nancy’s fond gaze.

“Silver Bells” fades out, replaced by three, reverberating somber guitar chords that make Steve freeze in his tracks. Robin leaps across the kitchen, slamming the radio into the wall in her haste to hit the power button.

“Sorry,” she says, her face is red and he’s not sure if it’s exertion or embarrassment coloring her cheeks.

“It’s fine,” he makes himself say, though his heart races and he’s a little bit dizzy.

Steve hasn’t listened to the radio since July. Not since the night he and Henderson drove home from the drive-in a few towns over and the DJ had said, “Got a new one for ya tonight. Early buzz is calling it the next great break-up anthem,” and those three chords played through the Beemer’s speakers, followed by the hollow rasp of Eddie’s voice. The song that followed, where Eddie tightroped between rage and brokenhearted melancholy, had almost driven Steve off the road. Then the last note growled from Eddie’s lips bit off in an obviously stifled sob, and Steve pulled over, had a full-blown panic attack with Dustin in the passenger’s seat. By the time Steve’s face was dry and his breathing even, Dustin felt comfortable joking, “at least it’s got anthem potential?” to ease the tension. It didn’t make Steve laugh, but he did smile.

Back in the present, he takes a sip of his coffee and grabs a cookie, determined to ignore the worried glances the two women share. He’s fine, though. He just doesn’t like to hear the song unexpectedly, and it’s fine. Normal, really. Nothing at all weird about being the, now internationally reviled, inspiration behind the song that sat at number one on the Top 40 for six weeks.

To show just how regular and fine he is, he asks, “Know when you guys should be getting back?”

Nancy answers, “Everything needs to be at the Community Center by 5, so. Before that.”

“Cool. I think everyone else should start getting in around 3.”

Steve takes a bite of peanut butter cookie, and Nancy ruffles his hair as she passes to the front door. He thinks he’s avoided any heavy scrutiny about the song, but Robin leans down and presses a kiss to his forehead. They’re physically affectionate—he’s one of the few people that Robin allows to touch her—but usually it isn’t gentle kisses on the head unless he’s having an active breakdown. He resists the urge to smack her away for seeing him too clearly. Instead, he wraps an arm around her waist and tugs her close, squeezing his eyes shut as he’s briefly assaulted by all the memories he’s trying not to have.

She doesn’t bother with any platitudes to assure him. Robin fully understands how much it sucks, how bad it hurts, she just hugs him as tightly as she can in her wiry arms. It cheers him up and also doesn’t, because he and Eddie are most definitely over in every way, and that was way before Eddie wrote a song about Steve that Eddie can’t sing without sobbing. So.

Steve’s fine, is the important thing. He can’t listen to the radio anymore, but he’s got plenty of tapes. He can’t talk to his best friend-slash-love of his life anymore, but he can—no, there’s no good way to twist this one. He misses Eddie so much it’s a permanent physical ache in his sternum. But Steve is coping. He is. School is good and his teams are good, and so what if all his kids aside from Erica left for college? It’s fine. He’s fine. Great, really.

We're an undiagnosed system, the body is a minor and so are many of us.

The host is Mike (he/him/they) and the co-host is Michael (he/it/rot), but we have a few frequent fronters and we'll probably all make posts at some point, possibly excluding the kids. We will tag our posts with the alter who wrote it and any other relevant information.

We're fictive-heavy, mostly with MHA fictives, but there are some others as well.
