What did Obama do to your knees?
I mean he didn’t do anything, I was a fool. Sixteen year old me, so filled with hope and idealism, was very excited when he won the 2008 election, because I legitimately did not think he could given how racist this country is (and, to throw my sixteen year old self a bone, just look at how the country reacted to having a Black man as president). I was in a small room when the race was officially called, because I was (predictably) on a computer. I jumped up and down and did a dance, and in the process I tripped over various objects and, upon falling down, dislocated my first knee. Thanks, Obama.
The second knee happened about a year later when I was making a bed. Yay compensating by putting too much pressure on the other knee.

Rating my Dislocations:) -
I think I’d rate this experience a 8/10 all the doctors n ppl were really nice and understanding and I got it back in as soon as they could, plus I got pain meds which was nice. The 6th grade one was 2/10 that was actual torture and the doctors were mean and I got no pain meds and it was at school of all places 💀💀💀. 8th grade was just… embarrassing. However, my knee did kinda go back in. 5/10

Give your whumpees anxiety about old injuries!
I completely tore my ACL (literally 100%) when I was 9 and the literature at the time said not to do reconstruction because I hadn't finished growing and it might fuck up the growth plate in my leg, plus lots of people can manage fine with just their muscles to compensate (especially since I wasn't sporty anyway)
HOWEVER. I ended up getting a locked knee if I squated/knelt on my knee. Resulting in me screaming in pain for 6 hours while I tried to straighten it back out (and when my mum called the paramedic they said I could only have paracetamol and ibuprofen 👍 helpful)
I had an arthroscopy when I was 11 to try and solve the locking but it didn't help. Finally, 4 years after the injury, I got a reconstruction and the problem went away (sort of, it would dislocate occasionally but that's stopped now)
Those 4 years of not being able to fully bend my knee because it would lock completely changed my psychology. It took 2 more years before I even tried sitting cross legged on the floor, and only in the last few years have I gotten more comfortable kneeling.
I still can't put all my weight on my knee when kneeling because of the fear. Every time i feel something unexpected I panic (not pain, more like a movement inside my knee?)
I've dislocated my shoulder a bunch, as well as my hip (yay hypermobility) but nothing can send terror down my spine like my knee slipping or giving way.
So anyway, whumpees who won't do certain movements or get scared when a particular thing feels wrong

Kneecap
Morgan: Prentiss you good?
Prentiss: Yeah why wouldn’t I be?
Hotch: Because you’ve dislocated your knee Prentiss.
Prentiss: dislocated is a strong word, bruised would be more accurate
Hotch: Oh really? then what is your kneecap doing on the left side of your knee?
Prentiss: taking a vacation?

I have a lot of conflicted feelings about sports. On one hand, I grew up playing all kinds of sports. Soccer, tennis, softball, volleyball. I watched my brother wrestle and play soccer and football. And it was a really good thing for me. I'm glad now, being mostly bed-bound from my disability, that I had the opportunity to push my body and play! But when I see these young people playing contact sports with a high rate of injury, it breaks my heart. Because I don't think they understand what they are signing up for. I don't think they realize that that simple injury they get at 17 could cause them chronic pain and issues for the rest of their life. I don't think they understand that they are sacrificing their young bodies for the entertainment of people who don't care about their health. I just don't think they fully understand.

it's 1 AM and I have a very specific bone to pick with a very specific thing I consume, enjoy and endorse wholeheartedly
here's the thing about vampire bites. they are depicted as this little unhinged and nasty but mostly sexy thing right. our guy (gender neutral) gets bitten and it's like ah! it hurts but also it hurts good ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). and here im talking about like. proper vampire teeth, non of that twilight bullshit just two to four proper fangs nothing more nothing less
well clearly the person writing the sexy biting smut scene has never been bitten by a cat. I dont mean like 'ah no Scruffy bit me a little' i don't even mean 'oh no Sceuffy bit me a lot' i mean like a fully grown ass feral cat that has never been touched by human in its life and craves the taste of flesh biting thru skin muscle cartilage -even sometimes bone- whatever the fuck you got in your meat sack that tiny needle thin tooth is piercing right through it
and here's the thing. it doesn't hurt at first oh no. okay well it hurts but if doesn't hurt too much ya know what i mean. and it leaves a cute little mark nothing serious at all
but in a day that wound is gonna swell. and it's gunna. hurt like all fuck because it just directly injected about five gazillion bacteria directly into a neat little incubation pouch and then closed it right up. its gona swell its gonna ooze and throb and hurt and if that shits in your neck ur pretty much done for i mean an infection right next to the jugular is just easy mode for the bacteria
so unless your vampire boyfriend gargles with antiseptic beforehand you aint gotta worry about turning or bleeding out or developing a biting kink cus youre gonna be delirious from meningitis with a football sized phlegmone in your neck beggjng for the sweet sweet release of death thank you for coming to my ted talk please ensure your vampire boyfriend employs proper dental hygiene

After reading about it, I’ve decide the Twitch Intel Foam Pit has dethroned the dashcon ballpit.
The dashcon ballpit was just kinda awkward. But still a fun little nerd idea.
The Twitch Intel Foam Pit is seriously injuring people. A back broken in two places. And a host of damaged ankles, knees, wrists, and shoulders.
The Twitch Intel Foam Pit was borne entirely of marketers chasing twitter trends, and was guaranteed to hurt someone the second they decided loose foam cuboids were a viable replacement for all other forms of padding.
For reference, those cuboid pits you see in the big gymnasiums are actually built to code. And that code says you have sixty inches minimum between the floor and the top of the trampoline frame before you add a single cuboid. Because the cuboids aren’t actually padding. They’re just fun.
Tumblr media
Intel just got some interns to dump a buncha cuboids in an enclosure and called it good.
I'd call it a clown show, but clowns actually have extremely rigorous safety standards and are highly trained professionals.

Some spinning today. This was a batt that I put together ages ago, sadly forgot to take a picture of it before I stripped and pre-drafted the last little bit. One of those spins where I really wasn't intending to spin so finely but the wool wants what the wool wants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tentatively planning on spinning two other plies out of this batt, which I got at flock and fiber last year. Not sure if I'll have enough, but the original batt was pretty small so it should be fine.
I dont know how anyone plans out spins in advance. I always just end up spinning whatever I feel like/whatever the wool seems to want, and then scramble to figure out plying options right at the end lol.

In your ‘how I became a paleontologist’ post, you mentioned you have chronically dislocated knees. You’ve probably answered this before, but what does that entail? I’m not too knowledgeable on that sort of thing
Basically, if you dislocate your knee once, it’s much easier to dislocate again. So when I dislocated the first one (long story, but I can legitimately blame Obama), I put more pressure on the second one to compensate, which eventually lead to that one dislocating as well. I still tried to act normal even with the pain, which eventually lead to me dislocating both of them even worse on multiple occasions. One that still haunts my spouse involves a bicycle, a spider, and my crippling arachnophobia. Now I have the fun reality of any movement of the knee hurting from a little to blinding amounts of pain, depending on the day. It’s fun! Thanks Obama!

Pro tip: don't play just dance while making dinner for the household. Your knees will do a 360 no scope.

Whump Prompt #1047
Anon asked:
I have a character who has had a knee injury in the past and it still effects him sometimes. My dilemma is what kind of knee injuries would be long-term/ able to linger around this long? The most i’m thinking time wise is 2-4 years ago, is that accurate?
I can give it a go, but bear with my limited knowledge on this one. I can offer starting points more than anything:
Dislocations would be a good start - a bad dislocation that could've left nerve damage behind/had to have surgery on may result in lasting difficulties.
A broken knee could be easily as useful.
Botched surgeries!
Shattered kneecap which resulted in a fake one being put in in it’s place? These can take 3-6 months to heal apparently, and if your whumpee rushes this, they could be jeopardising their healing process.
General stabbing: again muscle and nerve damage as a result and scar tissue that leaves pain behind.
Old muscle injuries that hurt when they’ve been on their feet for too long.
Not really an injury but could arthritis be a possibility for this scenario?
(Feel free to add in the reblogs/comments)
EDIT: Definitely check out the comments and re-blogs! Thanks everyone!
