Grian (on hermitcraft) finding a giant purple rift that causes some weird stuff around it and can pull things from other universes/dimensions

not at all! from the official post-mortem put out by RQ, "while the ARG was not something that was necessary to participate in to understand the magnus protocol, it was designed to contain a wealth of background story and context that would enrich any player's listening experience."

SO glad you asked. sadly, many of the materials made for the arg have been taken down since the game ended 😔 (ex., the official OIAR, magnus institute, and bonzoland websites. (edit ii: I found partial wayback machine captures! see below) though @strangehauntsuk is still up!), so we're a bit low on primary sources, but in terms of learning about what happened:

for a starting point, I would really recommend this video by @pinkelotjeart

it's super accessible, it was made in real time as the game progressed and follows the solving and revelation of clues as they happened, it hits all the major points of the mystery and moments of community insanity while eliding some of the nitty gritty puzzle grinding, 10/10 would recommend.

here's the official summary put out by RQ, and I'd recommend reading through this once you've already gotten a basic handle on the flow of the story and the basic connections between major clues and events. it's got some fun behind-the-scenes info and lays out the thought process behind the puzzles in simple terms

here's the full masterdoc of all puzzles and resolutions put together in the statement remains discord server. masterdoc my absolute BELOVED, masterdoc my bethrothed, masterdoc my soul mate. I'd recommend this as a second port of call after the above video as it either contains all details about the puzzles or links to other expanded docs that do.

here's the narrative summary doc that lays out all the plot and lore discovered in three pages of plain prose. if you just want to get to the good bits as fast as you can and get blasted directly in the face by contextless lore bombs, this is the doc for you. if you don't want to start with the video, I'd say this is another good entry point.

once you've got the lay of the land, some of the game materials that I found particularly interesting include:

the in-universe east germany expat usenet forum, with all content translated into english. most of it is irrelevant space filler with occasional extremely sus lore, but I still found it fun to read through. love to soak in some fictional forum drama.

chdb.xlsx, the spreadsheet of the names of all the children the protocol 'verse magnus institute was studying/experimenting on. EDIT: here is a version of the sheet without any annotations and with all of the names in their original order, kudos to @theboombutton for catching that the commonly shared copy had the order swapped around.

klaus.xls, a (very corrupted) spreadsheet with what looks like the classifications of a bunch of old OIAR cases.

EDIT: have a few more saved materials from the game that I forgot to include.

an in-universe audio ad to apply to the OIAR that ran before archives episodes and kicked off the whole game.

AITA for calling the mods of a discord server transphobic?

For context, I am trans and I had joined a fandom based discord server. I am not going to say what fandom it is though, so things will be kept vague.

In the discord server, people were allowed to share art from other people they liked as long as they linked it. The art sharing thing is not a bad idea because I would love to support artists. However, the problem lay with the art that people would share. I have no problem with the NSFW art people shared since the mods made a channel for people to share it where minors couldn't see.

The problem I had with the art sharing was when people would share genderbend art. Genderbending is basically when someone takes an existing character and imagine them as if they had always been the opposite gender. It made me feel uncomfortable because it felt wrong that they would just pretend a character had always been one gender.

I brought it up with the mods in dms and asked them if they could ban genderbends from the server because it made me feel uncomfortable. I explained that genderbends are rooted in cissexism and are linked to transphobia as well. The mods said that they would discuss it and then they went and PUBLICLY asked about it in the discord server with everyone which made me feel uncomfortable.

Some other trans people in the server said that I was making a big deal out of it and said the mods did not need to ban it. They said that it helped them with their gender dysphoria, but I argued that they were supporting something that was inherently transphobic. I explained that trans people are further erased by genderbend subculture pushing more trans-friendly genderbend art out of the community, thus taking away what little space we had to begin with. Genderbends cause harm.

But in the end, the mods refused to ban genderbends. Instead, they made a poll asking everyone if they wanted to continue allowing it or not. Since the majority voted to keep it, they did not ban it. So I called everyone in the server transphobic for allowing it to continue.

How do your puzzles work? Every time i look at an art post and see the “reward for figuring it out” im confused on what the answer was, what the puzzle was, etc? Could you break down a previous puzzle for me to explain this?

Ooh that’s an exciting ask! Yeah I’m happy to break down some of the ones that have been solved :3 It’s mostly just hidden messages within the art, starting really easily Untitled Self Portrait and Bleeding Mother both just have binary messages within the image.

the message in untitled self portrait translates to “Dream of me, painter.” The message in Bleeding Mother translates to "Gut me, plate me, feast on my flesh. Feel my blood down your chin as I slide down your throat” for these puzzles, just finding the message was the solution!

For Stolen Egg, the word “BASILISK” is hidden within the puzzle, highlighted here. By putting the letters in numerical order (B1 A2, etc.), it spells the word, which is the solution to this puzzle :}

Hideous Memory is the most complicated, but Wren (who has been spearheading this puzzle solving!!!) lays out the solution pretty clearly here!

Unscrambling this block of text was the solution to this puzzle! Watching people solve these puzzles has been really exciting, and I have a lot of fun making them! And if you wanna try some solving, here’s a list of puzzles that still haven’t been solved :3c

They Call Him The Reaper [Hanma Shuji]

an: after many discussions on discord with @unknownspecies over Shuji and especially soft Shuji in the past few days, this idea was born. A huge thanks to Zoya for helping a ton with the inspiration and characterisation.

Masterlist

They call him the Reaper.

A title bestowed upon him when he was only an adolescent. A delinquent with seemingly no moral compass, little compassion and a desire to watch the world burn, but only after being the one to strike the match. Nothing but a thug with no qualms about being used by others to enact their worst ideations.

Even now, in his mid-thirties, the namesake remains.

Sure, he isn’t the most upstanding citizen, but he is a far cry from those youthful years when he would pull the wings off insects just to watch them writhe. He found his passion, and it wasn’t taking orders without question. Perhaps those years helped him capture the world in a way that others couldn’t, a unique take on the subject of his photographs that no one but he could draw out because he didn’t see the world like anyone else.

His studio was full of his favourite shots, landscapes blown up to cover large sections of the walls with small intimate photos scattered around in what seemed like a haphazard way when, in fact, there was a logic and pattern that only made sense to him. Photos taken with a polarizing filter caught your eye amongst the raw scenes on display. Natural sunsets stood out against a sea of cityscapes with twinkling lights, the pure magic of the sun outshining any number of neon lights that covered the glittering buildings.

It was safe to say that he had an eye for photography, and his fully booked calendar only highlighted that fact. However, he hadn’t entirely turned away from his criminal past. He would still lend out favours to those he called friends and they weren’t many. Those that did make the exclusive list were some of the most powerful men in the entire country and the majority of their wealth was stained in crimson, not that he cared.

An enforcer, a dangerous presence or sometimes the kindling to spark the flames of a dispute that had taken too long to reach this point. He played the role well, and it would be a lie to say he didn’t enjoy it when he was called upon. His fingers itched for a good fight often, and whilst he could now channel that energy in other, less violent ways, sometimes nothing could quell the bloodlust than a brawl where his knuckles split wide and smears of his opponent's blood covered his golden-hued skin.

Of course, he was still the Reaper. To be feared simply from how he smiled when he entered a room. It didn’t matter who occupied it or how high up the tree they might be, his smile was crazed, a warning and a threat rolled into one. The wolf called in when things were growing arms and legs, when attention was being drawn and a conclusion was needed sooner rather than later.

One flash of his perfectly white and deadly sharp teeth was enough to silence a room and he got off on that feeling. A glance at the stark black ink decorating the backs of his hands was more than ample to strike fear into the most hardened criminals. They all knew the atrocities those hands had committed, the blood that had long been washed away but still evident on the slender fingers by reputation alone.

An animal. A hired thug. A monster.

Except, he wasn’t those things, at least, not to you. He was gentle, a good listener and a whirlwind of his own making. Not always, and he had his moments when he was far from gentle, but you loved those times nearly as much as you coveted the soft times.

He liked the sound of rainstorms and would pull you to bed simply to lay in his arms and talk whilst the heavy thud of raindrops pelted against the roof and lashed the windows. He was a curious creature and often questioned you over things that seemed trivial but somehow were important to him. What had you eaten for lunch in middle school? What had you wanted to be when you were a kid? Which was your favourite ice cream flavour?

You’d laugh and press your hand against his shoulder in a playful shove, he couldn’t seriously want to know those things but he truly did. His nose rubbed into your hair as warm laughter met your ear, the arm around your waist tightening until you yielded and gifted him the answers he sought. Did he remember them? You weren’t sure and you didn’t test him on it, it was enough that he had asked in the first place.

The man called the Reaper thought about you and not just when he needed something from you. It had taken some time to sink in but the evidence was plain to see as the little trinkets grew on your vanity. He had an uncanny ability to sense you weren’t in the best of moods, perhaps it was a hard week at work or your monthly cycle kicking your ass. It didn’t matter the reason, simply that in these instances he would appear on your doorstep with that wicked grin curving his lips and a small bag or box in hand. It was never a random item either, always something you had previously spoken about like the hobbies and interests he teased you over or an item you had lingered at whilst out together.

Someone considered a monster couldn’t be that sweet, but he was. Perfect he was not but soft, measured when it counted and open with his affection. He didn’t shy away from twining his fingers with yours, thumb stroking over your knuckles while you swung your joined hands happily. What a funny pair you made when out walking, but he didn’t mind one jot when you had a spring in your step or you pulled him to stop over something you had spied. Maybe you couldn’t see the secret smile that he wore only for you but the ghost of it caught your eye now and then.

For everything that made him hard, dominating and the master of his universe, there was a parallel to be drawn. All you had to do was look within the box tucked away beneath his bed to know that to you, he was no monster to be feared. Inside a frayed box that had been opened and closed so many times that the stiff cardboard was now peeling in places, scuffed and overused, was a thick stack of photos. Polaroids and glossy photos sat in a jumble and the subject of every single one… you.

Some only showed the curve of your shoulder as the morning sun streamed through a bedroom window to bounce off your skin and the rumpled white sheets. Others were candid shots that you remembered fondly. Being chased around your apartment whilst he snapped photos that you tried playfully to avoid. Bright smiles and splayed fingers across the lens blurred the surroundings but did nothing to dampen the happiness they exuded. You’d blush at the intimate ones carefully thumbed by long fingers. Hair spread out on pillows like a halo, features twisted in bliss and uncaring for the camera poised above you.

Yes, there were lewd images of the two of your bodies joined and the decadent mess such a joining resulted in. Streaks of saliva on heated flesh, a pink tongue painted in creamy white, a hand painted with ‘punishment’ wrapped around an eager throat and other things that made you blush to even think of.

He even kept the photos you had taken, the ones from a lazy Sunday morning when you had grabbed his camera and snapped away at his tousled hair and carefree expression. Capturing the curls of smoke that rose from one of his morning cigarettes and asking him to try and blow smoke rings just to amuse you. The ones where you kissed his cheek and peeked at the camera with a wink and others where you made stupid faces together until you couldn’t breathe from the laughter.

Despite it all, the violence he was capable of and the times he tested your patience and sanity to the very limit, he had stolen your attention but you had gifted him your love.

They called him the Reaper, but you called him Hanma Shuji.

Submakers i’d order void subs from if i had $$

Disclaimer: This is supposed to be fun, light hearted wishlist for subliminals because i love subliminals and only have been focusing on the void currently.

I recently came across someone ordering a df custom sub, they mentioned they got results but then they decided to change their df so they’ll be ordering a different sub from another sub maker💀

This got me thinking which submakers i would love to order void subs from! (because as we all know void is not a common topic)

If i had $$ to spare here’s who i would purchase void state subs from!

(My top three are starred)

Vetala (i have gotten amazing results from her subs like longer hair, bigger lips, nicer family, more confidence, prettier face in general)

⭐️ Slade (their void sub has so many results and everyone swears by their problem solving sub on reddit, twitter and discord servers so i think a new void sub or wake up in the void sub by them would be so powerful)

Kottie’s new AI formula has so MANY results (someone recently entered the void using kottie’s dream life sub)

⭐️ Neptune (i came across neptune’s channel after doona shared her sub in her success story, i noticed that her WL ug subs have amazing and drastic results! Her formula for drop sub for a wake up in the void sub would be amazing because i had instant drastic results when i used it, i even tried out her beauty subs on her second channel and looked prettier in just one listen, her subs are no joke and pretty underrated in my opinion)

⭐️ Moza morph’s NEW formula!! wake up in the void sub would guarantee results for sure! The amount of results that she has shared with her new formula has me convinced

Lay subliminals has so many results from her pale white sub so that formula seems to be pretty good

Bunni (her sub oops, mogged you is now unlisted but i get results in just one listen, so the formula she used for that sub would be great, i’d probably ask for the same song (cause it’s SOOOO fun) and a calm version to play overnight) (her VS sub also made me skinner in just one day)

Sttaly has quite a lot of results from paid subs but they can be quite pricey (also note: they mention the name of the sub user in the custom sub so sharing custom subs from sttaly might not be fruitful, she mentioned it on her instagram)

Lola bunni that goes by siren now her @ is youngsiren on youtube has great results to share! Someone used her df sub and got such drastic results her friend couldn’t believe it’s them with no filter!

I guess that’s it for my list!
