TWs: Drugging, collapse, poisoning

"I thought I said I didn't need a smoothie?" Mariano grinned despite his questioning protest as Dimitri slid into his passenger seat. He held two cups, one a brilliant pink and the other a rich purple, and didn't hesitate to shove the purple one towards Mariano.

"Don't think about it, stupid, it was free. They fucked up the previous person's order and the guy threw a fit and left." Dimitri said, rolling his eyes and taking a sip of his own. "The barista stormed out and everything too, the person who made mine had to stop their shit to take over. So they offered it to me."

"Oh?" Mariano took a sip from his before setting it in his cup holder so that he could drive. "Guess we were lucky, you got a show and I got a surprise blueberry smoothie."

"And Rat got a free pup cup, too, so both of my favorite dogs got something." Dimitri laughed as Mariano swatted at his shoulder, settling his little hairless dog's carrier onto the floor board. "C'mon, stop pouting and drive, Laredo's wanting me to join him on his stream in half an hour."

Mariano laughed, putting his car into gear. "Alright, alright. Roll down your window, too. I haven't gotten around to recharging my AC yet and she doesn't need to cook."

The drive was quick, just a ten minute jaunt back to the house that the other war mages shared on the edge of town. Dimitri waved to Mariano as he sat down on the couch with his laptop and smoothie, smiling as Mariano settled in to start going through manager applications for the coffee shop. It was about time--the circles under his eyes were getting to be too permanent for Dimitri’s liking. "Text if you need anything, I'll have my notifications on."

Mariano waved in return, giving him a quick smile as he took another long drink. Dimitri slipped into Laredo’s room, donning the pair of headphones with a unicorn horn and horse ears–Laredo was fiercely insistent that he always got the cat ear headphones. It was “part of his brand.”

Dimitri just thought he looked cute in them.

They were half an hour into “two people control one character in Bornsouls 2” when Dimitri’s phone lit up with a message from Mariano.

Dimitri froze up, frowning as he looked down. “I…am going to check on our boyfriend.” Dimitri stood, snatching his phone up and setting the headphones down on their stand. He had just gotten his fingers around the doorknob when it sounded like someone dropped one of Laredo’s weights in the hallway.

When he ripped open the door, ice filled his veins. Mariano was sprawled on the floor of the hallway, facedown on the carpet and looking like he hadn’t even tried to catch himself. In an instant, Dimitri was on the stairway of the infiltration drill building, with the dawning realization that he’d poisoned the new kid far, far past what he’d intended.

There was no Manuel this time, though, no Izan. They were both at work. There was no medical backup to call for. No one would be there in forty-five seconds. “Laredo!” He shouted, urgency pulling his voice tight as he sprinted to Mariano’s side and pulled him into his arms.

Mariano was completely limp as Dimitri manhandled him and pressed his ear to Mariano’s chest. He could feel him breathing, shallow and too-quick. He could hear his heartbeat, just as fast. His expression was entirely neutral, with an awful paleness starting to creep into his lips and cheeks. “Call emergency services! He’s breathing but he’s not waking up.”

“I am!” Laredo shouted back, appearing in the doorway with his phone pressed to his ear. “Yes–yes, that’s our address. My boyfriend just collapsed–yes. He is, and we know first aid. Okay, you–ten minutes?”

Dimitri growled as he shifted Mariano in his arms again, moving Mariano’s head to rest on his shoulder. He could smell the blueberries on his breath. Was this what Manuel experienced back then? It made his stomach churn. “Ten fucking minutes? They’d better be speeding or–”

“They’re going as fast as they can, Dimitri–yeah, no, no, it wasn’t a fight, we were playing a video game and heard him hit the floor. Dimitri’s just worried–the…the victim’s name is Mariano. Yeah, I’m Laredo. Dimitri’s the one keeping an eye on him. No, he didn’t choke, we don’t know what happened, he was okay earlier.”

Dimitri remembered something, then. The barista, the one who made the drink, the one who’d stormed off; he hadn’t ever seen them before. He always went to this smoothie place. The employees all knew him. They all liked him.

That new barista had added a packet of something into the smoothie. He hadn’t heard the man’s order. He’d just assumed it was some artificial sweetener, or other flavoring.

“The smoothie was poisoned.” Dimitri blurted out.

Laredo froze, cutting himself off. “The what?”

Dimitri repeated himself, more urgently. “Someone didn’t want their smoothie so we got it for free–Laredo, this sounds insane, but I think the smoothie was poisoned. It was a powder. The cup–it should still be on the side table!”

“Oh–yes, yeah, we think our boyfriend’s drink might’ve been tampered with. No, no allergies, no fainting conditions. Yes, we still have the cup, it hasn’t been washed out.”

A low groan from Mariano made everything else fall away. Dark eyes fluttered, pact rings just barely peeking out beneath his lashes. “‘Mitri…?” He managed, barely past a whisper. “It's hard to breathe…”

“Don’t talk right now.” Dimitri said, cradling Mariano’s face with one hand and shifting him in his arms again. “You’ve been poisoned, help is coming.”

“Y’sir.”

Dimitri felt heat roaring behind his eyes. “Eyes on me.” He could see Mariano struggling to listen, how his lashes fluttered with the effort. Dimitri’s mouth opened again before he could stop it. “I swear Mariano, I didn’t–”

Mariano smiled, his usual faint flicker of an expression. “I know.” He whispered back, turning his face to nuzzle into Dimitri’s palm. “Y’wouldn’t.”

Dimitri sobbed, clutching Mariano close as tears started to fall. They rolled down his face and into Mariano’s hair. Laredo’s voice disappeared as Mariano reached up to hold Dimitri’s hand in return. Only the approaching sirens broke through the rushing chaos in Dimitri’s head.

All that mattered was that help was on the way, Mariano was awake, holding onto him, and that he still trusted him.

do you have face claims for dimitri?

I recently started a pintrest board with what dimirti would look like/ wear (really a mood board). Ugh my obsession just keeps getting better <33 ✨😊✨🎀

I'll be honest, I had never heard of face claims until now! But no, I don't think any mere mortal could compare 😅 The closest would be the more realistic art some artists make of him.

As for what he wears, definitely depends on his stage in life. Acadimitri is in khakis and sweater over a button up every day. He has gym shoes that are literally only used for the gym.

Post skip Mitri is more rough around the edges. I know I never shut up about Speck's Punkmitri, but I think this is a legit possible route he could take depending on the amount of shit he's been through. In a tamer timeline, he is dressed professionally but when you look closely, his shirts don't quite fit (thrifted or his dad's old clothes), the cuff is missing a button, he's using the same old messenger bag from college instead of a briefcase. And yet he still has that "not even trying" handsome charm 💙💙💙

I would like to share an idea for a fantasy musical I’m working on, any thoughts on it?

I’m not fully done i still need to come up with a opening number and a finale

and not sure what I’m going to do with it, I’m just curious about what peoples thoughts on it are

The Show Is Called

🍃☀️The Four Seasons 🍂❄️

The story is about a royal family, there’s a prince who has three siblings that have powers that get passed down to them to oversee the seasons spring, summer, and fall and he has winter. They determine when each of their seasons will happen and how they will go.

Their names are Sabina, Sawyer, Finn and Wyatt (each of them is named after the first letter of their season).

The winter prince, struggles to be a great royal like them because he doesn’t know how to live up to all the things his siblings accomplish as seasons.

He meets a group of villagers who he befriends and struggles to fit in with them. In the story, he has to overcome the rift in the royal family and find his place.

But then there’s an old friend of Sabina who’s the villain and who has drifted apart from them because he turned to a life of crime, when stole the ability to be in charge of the droughts throughout the year.

His name is Dimtri (keeping track of the first name starting with the letter of their ability). He's coming back to reconnect with the seasons, but he’s secretly trying to get revenge on them.

The siblings have to reconnect to stop dimities plan

and Sabina has to try to move on from her old friend Dimitri

A bookmark placed In my story, this is the "I Want" song for The winter prince .

The winter prince feels stuck and wants accomplish great things like his siblings. But there are obstacles in his way that are holding him back and preventing that from happening.

He describes them in a metaphor as a bookmark placed in his story, since a bookmark pauses a story and holds it back, and he’s being held back.

In sync: This is a group number where the main character meets his new friend group and we set up the mission of the story. The Winter Prince bonds with them in the song, but not really because he’s trying to be like them and doesn't believe in himself, so he just goes along with whatever they say.

Process: This is a song from the main character's sister, Sabina. She sings about how hard life is in the palace and sets up how the family is in the show.

They look back at all of the struggles during the year and have trouble moving forward.

So now that she’s successful and she’s accomplished, she wonders why the only thing she can think about is the problems she faced and the things she couldn’t do right.

She wonders why she can’t be happy with all the good things and can’t move on from the process she faced. She is focused on all the bad moments, like losing her friend, and all the things she had to give up on and leave behind.

There’s an irony that her powers are spring, and spring is the start of new beginnings, but all she can do is look back.

Out of the Loop: This is the villain song and a comedic song for Dimirti. He goes to the castle and reunites with the four royals, explaining how he’s out of the loop on what’s happened to them while they were apart.

Vault: This is another song for The winter prince about how he feels he has to keep his struggles to himself. He compares himself to a vault, where he has to lock things inside to protect himself from everyone around him.

Sorry: This is the second villain song for Dimtri, and he talks about how, when he was younger, he always over-apologized and got pushed around, but now he’s done being pushed around and follows his plan to seize the palace.

The over-apologizing is used in song because saying sorry again and again is like a repeating song title.

Rain: This is a battle group song where the struggles between the characters start to happen. The old friend becomes king of the palace. The bond between The winter prince and his family and friends starts to fall apart, but they still have to band together and fight Dimitri. The whole battle is compared to a storm.

through: a duet between Sabina and Dimtri. Sabina is trying to get through to him and make him stop his plan and be good again. while Dimtri is saying that their friendship is through.

When the chapters close: This is a song that happens when the family and friends and the winter prince get taken to prison by Dimtri. Sabina and The winter are put in the same cell.

It is a song sung by Sabina when The winter prince tells her about his issues with his friends and how he doesn't feel close to the family. The oldest sibling responds with this song.

The song is about how good moments go away and people you're close to drift away, reflecting over everything they’ve lost, and how she realizes she’s not sure if she made any impact while she was a royal or mattered to anyone around her. She talks about how she felt this way when she first had to deal with change after she lost Dimtri and how she feels just as lost as he does.

Okay, now that I’ve gotten to experience some of the game beyond the demo (haven’t reached *that scene yet* but I have a better idea on story direction), here’s some further thoughts on Claude’s characterization:

It’s definitely debatable how well the writers handle everything, but I think I understand how they came to the decisions they did with Claude.

It’s not just that he never met Byleth, he never went through White Clouds AT ALL. What I think 3Hopes demonstrates is that most of Claude’s development was during the school phase. He gets to know his classmates, discovers there’s a lot of Fodlan he doesn’t understand (leading to him trying to figure out these mysteries during the rest of the game), and he meets someone who he feels can help guide Fodlan to a better future. In 3Hopes, he spends, what, two weeks at Garreg Mach? A month, at most. With how distrusting he his, that’s not enough time for him to change his mind about anything.

1.) Gets to know his classmates - Claude views the GD as his friends, sure, but not in the same way he did in 3H. I reached Claude and Lorenz’s C support in 3Hopes and damn, that hurt. Those two do not trust each other one bit. Well, Lorenz doesn’t. Claude’s a sad boy who wants to trust, but isn’t willing and tries to deflect. On top of that, Claude hides his plans from all the GD, including Shez. Yes, he hid his plan about getting help from Almyra from the GD in 3H, but he still tells Byleth. Then, after he’s confronted about, he explains in detail why he did what he did. He doesn’t hide his future goals. It’s presented completely different in 3Hopes. In 3Hopes, I get the feeling of Claude doesn’t trust the GD with his plans and the GD don’t trust him. There’s no found family with the GD this time around.

On top of that, there’s Edelgard and Dimirti. I’ll get to Dimitri in my last point, but as far as Edelgard? Claude doesn’t know Edelgard had been planning the war before they even went to Garreg Mach. He doesn’t know what she’s willing to do to reach her goals. And Claude is desperate, that much is clear from what I’ve played so far. He’s extremely stressed, worried about the future of the Alliance, and everyone’s questioning him, which seems to lead to him doubling down on his decisions. I think I see how, in that state and not actually knowing much about Edelgard except surface level stuff, he can end up making a decision that he never would in 3H.

2.) Discovering he doesn’t know everything - My views on this haven’t really changed since the last post, so I won’t say much. However, while Claude is definitely someone willing to admit he was wrong and change his mind, he still needs evidence to do so. No White Clouds means he never discovered there was a greater mystery to the Church and Fodlan as a whole. He has no reason to think Rhea has answers that could explain how Fodlan ended up as it is. So to 3Hopes!Claude, Rhea has no importance other than just being the Archbishop. Why would he want to keep her alive if he believes her death could stop the war? Not saying this is great logic, but with being overly stressed and the fact he doesn’t actually know what Edelgard is capable of, I think I can see how this can come about.

3.) Meeting Fodlan’s future leader - You thought I was just talking about Byleth, huh? Nope! This is Byleth AND Dimitri, depending on the route. On VW, SS, and even CF, Claude believes Byleth can help guide Fodlan to better future, one that can lead to a better relationship with Almyra. Yes, even CF, considering how he reacts to Byleth in battle. On AM, though, this role goes to Dimitri, which is important. Claude gets to know Dimitri in White Clouds. He knows Dimitri can be a great leader. And in AM, Claude puts all his his trust in Dimitri to come to Derdriu’s aid.

In 3Hopes? Claude doesn’t know Dimitri and flat out says it. He’s not willing to put his trust in the Kingdom because he doesn’t know what’s going on in Dimitri’s head (which he directly states). This was the moment I realized where the writer’s were going and how they got there:

Claude doesn’t need Byleth, he needs White Clouds. He needs to bond with his classmates, discover there’s more to what’s going on, and he NEEDS to get closer to both Edelgard and Dimitri to better understand them. Without White Clouds, Claude never gets his character development. He keeps his facade of the ‘embodiment of distrust’. He’s not really listening to other people, either, and you add that to the stress of leadership, suddenly making a decision that 3H!Claude would never consider makes some sense.

Again, I’m not saying this is done extremely well or something we should be satisfied with. I haven’t gotten that far into the story to solidify my opinion, but I will say that I don’t think this is the character assassination we all thought it was. I see the logic on how the writers got there, which makes the whole thing more...fun? for me. To me, this has become an interesting ‘What-if’ scenario with a heavy dose of dramatic irony. Because the writing doesn’t seem to be saying that Claude is in the right. With how the other characters are reacting, I’d say that the story is trying to say that Claude’s making poor decisions, and if things continue like that, I think I’ll be just fine with Claude’s route.

Maybe 3 Houses should’ve been Azure Gleam

It’s not that rare a “hot-take”, believe me I know, but it is one I can’t help but agree with after experiencing 3 Houses, its dlc, and 3 Hopes several times through.

Everyone that plays either entry can tell it’s story writing took a bit of a hit due to the branching story routes. 3 Hopes helps a bit to explain some stuff that 3 Houses did not but both suffer from this decision.

The base 3 Houses story is still very enjoyable, I do not wish to make a hit piece (as if I’m popular at all to even attempt that) but there’s holes and questionable actions on the characters part depending on your route.

3 Houses DLC and 3 Hopes add context later as well but some stuff just feels rushed or half baked. Things such as;

Thales being Arundel. (I didn’t learn that till I saw a youtube video)

The full truth of the tragedy in Duscar.

How did Claude sneak in Almyran troops in Verdant Wind?

The whole questionably of Edelgards plans. Her goals are crystal clear but her plans felt rushed at times or her working with Agarthans in general.

The whole step sibling dynamic between Edelgard & Dimitri.

There’s more that I can’t think up off the top of my head, some of these may not even be mysteries to others in their first playthroughs, but these are things I remembered the most during mine.

I will even go as far as to say Verdant Wind is my first and favored route in 3 Houses because it answered the most for me. Rhea lived long enough to explain Byleth, I confronted and destroyed Shambala, and it sprinkled in a bit more of the mysterious history of Fodlan due to Claude always seeking truths.

I’d even argue Verdant Wind is a better “Silver Snow” for those reasons as well as due to Claude himself. He’s written as a tactician and it makes more sense for him to make the schemes I used as opposed to Seteth doing so in Silver Snow.

They both even have these random ass bosses that spring out of nowhere which is a weak point on them but I wont get into that because it’s minor. The point is they explained more and thus I liked Verdant Wind the most.

Silver Snow is just lesser Verdant Wind and Crimson Rose is way too short. I see Rhea and Edelgard as highly complicated, contradictory, but human characters. So I wont go into “Edelgard was wrong” debates either.

My main issues with Crimson Rose are its short length and my inability to agree with working alongside Agarthans. It makes no sense for me, as Byleth, nor Edelgard to not turn on them near the endgame.

Blue Lions

Then there’s Dimitri and the blue lions. I initially weighed this route lower for similar reasons to Edelgard’s. I never confront Shambala, that threat is there when the story ends. I also had no idea that I took out Thales as Arundel since the game didn’t give me enough to deduce it. I love a hub world but I’m not going to visit the Garegg Mach library every month for that kind of lore hint.

I also did not fully adhere to Dimirti’s trauma and rebound because the game did not delve into the Tragedy of Duscar enough. At least not for me. If anything I was more annoyed by his downward spiral by the time he rebounded.

However, upon playing 3 Hopes I can finally see why people like this route the most.

It answers a bit more about that Tragedy, I get to see the regent that was disposed of in 3 Houses, I get to see Dimitri tackle this mystery head on.

He still has his trauma and more negative tendencies but in this story he had people to keep him on track the whole way. I saw him confront Cornelia and ask questions, I saw him sorrowfully cut down his uncle despite having no love lost, and most important was the Agarthans being more present.

In a sense 3 hopes focused more on the tragedy as a subplot due to ‘Those Who Slither in the Dark’ being more present. Shez & Edelgard forced them to act early and openly.

I went through Azure Gleam and by the end I appreciated Azure Moon more because I understood more of it.

My mind also wandered back to videos and posts I had seen when 3 Houses launched. Azure Moon was the more traditional route in that title but it was lacking like the others. It was rushed, 3 Houses needed two routes at most and one at best.

And I can actually agree with that now. Of course, you can also make a similar argument for Edelgard. Her plans in 3 Hopes actually more sense and flow better than they do in 3 Houses. She uses Shez as a chance to cease the empire early, expose her tormentors, and prep for war far earlier.

My only personal issue with Edelgard is that I still feel like she’s burning down the world to rush her ideals. In contrast, Dimitri in 3 Hopes expresses similar sentiments to both Edelgard and Claude but has the wisdom to see that such a thing is a slow process.

Which ties back into his father and the tragedy. Duscar’s Tragedy taught him that you can’t rush change, it all comes full circle for his character to believe that. He is more interested in routing those who slaughtered his family and an innocent nation for personal greed.

His path through the story is about stabilizing his people’s lives first, understanding the tragedy second, and implementing slow change later.

And to be blunt I enjoyed that. I wished 3 Houses had been that. It didn’t have to be the exact same story but I liked what 3 Hopes presented as a possible path for Dimitri and his kingdom.

His words, actions, and beliefs circle back to the Tragedy of Duscar. He has some old school medieval drama and, most important, his desire for the truth pushed him toward finding some mysteries shrouded in Fodlan.

I finished Azure Gleam imagining what 3 Houses could’ve been if they had focused on just one story. Dimitri has the perfect set up in that worlds setting to delve into the mysteries and world building all the while growing his character and how his friends react to him.

Essentially, both versions of the Blue Lions from each title had the potential to be a really compelling old school fire emblem story but new. I can’t help but wonder what the story would’ve been had 3 Houses just been Azure moon.

All that creative focus in one route, a route perfectly fashioned to tackle most of what Fodlan had to offer.

You wouldn’t even have to cut the concept of three nations, three leaders, or the three classes. Edelgard and Dimitri’s past gives room to explore that dynamic even before Edelgard starts a war.

And Claude is the perfect advisor. Someone you could potentially recruit since his goals are more inclined toward opening Fodlan’s borders than anything else.

Sure, Claude seeks truth and change but he, like your avatar Byleth, is an outsider and thus his stake in it all feels a little weaker. It’s not as personal despite it being entirely personal.

Perhaps you could’ve even had a few alternative endings depending on whether you recruited Claude or allied with the Leicester Alliance. Heck, imagine how much better it’d feed some supports when you managed to recruit some of the Black Eagles in such a route.

I know I’m rambling at this point so let’s conclude this

After playing 3 Hopes and seeing this alternative Faerghus I can see the appeal of a game focused entirely on the Blue Lions. Their leader had everything needed to make the story more compelling than it became.

The kingdom has the most relics and crests

Dimitri has a personal stake in fighting Edelgard

He has perfect cause to ally with Claude

His pursuit of the truth would naturally force you to confront Shambala

And the kingdom is heavily tied to the church. Your Silver Snow units would be there for you by default. You’d be able to learn the truth of Byleth too.

All the core aspects of the four routes (and dlc) can be found in Azure Moon. Azure Gleam showed me what they could’ve been and I earnestly believe 3 Houses should’ve just been one route, the Blue Lions.
