Crowley Can See Stars (Part 2)
I am furthering the idea of Crowley’s vision and have a headcanon I am in LOVE WITH and that he is partially colorblind due to his snake eyes, and has deuteranopia. He has two cones in his eyes that are able to define primary colors. This would be unlike a human, who has three functioning cones in their eyes allowing them to see THREE. Red, Green, and Blue.
Crowley’s color-blindness would make his vision sensitive to the colors Blue and Yellow. He would possess an insensitivity to green light, therefore making it very difficult for Crowley to differentiate greens, reds, and yellows.
Example:
The top would be what Crowley would see as an Angel. The bottom would be what Crowley sees in the present with his snake eyes. Browns, yellows, and blues would be his spectrum when it comes to colors.
He would pretty much see Aziraphale in full color, as he dresses in beige clothes, has very light hair, and blue eyes. Crowley would in fact, see WHITE in the rainbow. I personally love how nebulae look in Crowley’s eyes as a snake. The stars are still visible to him, and even being colorblind, the stars are quite beautiful.
This couples in with my headcanon of Azi having star shaped pupils.
I would honestly LOVE to see fanart of Crowley with his color blindness. Him believing he has curly brown hair, and yellowish eyes which are around the same shade. Aziraphale having the prettiest periwinkle eyes to him and almost blinding white hair. (Pls credit me for the idea if you do decide to draw this❤️✨)
(I plan on writing a fanfic about this very topic so if any of you do write fanfiction and would be interested in this, let me know. Crowley would see the stars as a pretty periwinkle shade and believe that they are just slightly purple-ish. Which I think is precious.🐍💫)

I saw a theory that Aziraphale wears the colours he does (gold, light blue, white) because those are colours that snakes can see, ie Crowley. Any truth to this or does Aziraphale simply like these colours?
I think the colours Aziraphale wears in the TV series are more influenced by ideas of what's heavenly than by the fact that snakes have dichromatic vision and can't see shades of red. But if that's your headcanon then please, enjoy it.

I for some reason assumed they couldn't... how do they see? what do they see?
Yes! Snakes are dichromatic; they have blue and green cones and can see colors in those ranges. They can also easily distinguish white and black from other colors - a lot of pet snakes get excited to see white things because they associate the color with the white feeder rodents most people use! Blue is the color I often use to target-train my snakes because it seems to stand out very clearly to them.
Even though they can see color, many snakes don't have very good vision. They rely primarily on their sense of smell - a lot of shapes probably look very blurry to them!
Snake color vision probably looks similar to the left image below.

Wolves have dichromatic vision, meaning they have only two types of cones in their eyes to discern color. By human standards, this is colorblindness (as humans typically have three cones), but this does not mean wolves cannot see color at all. They can discern blues and yellows, just not reds and greens, which appear dull and gray.

OK. some quick cardassian speculative biology headcanon thoughts before i go to bed. i might incorporate this stuff into a more formal well formated thing later but rn i'm just spewing some thoughts
cardassians are not poikilotherms (as in earth reptiles) - they're endotherms (more specifically fitting into the baseoendotherm category imo, see this paper for more info on that term). their average healthy body temperature is ~34-35°C, so a little cooler than humans, but still warm.
cardassians are able to enter a state of torpor under high stress or in very cold or hot conditions, in which their body temperature can drop as low as 20°C and their bmr (basal metabolic rate) is significantly reduced. however, entering this state is often a last resort, as it's quite dangerous and can become a precursor to death if the stressful environmental conditions aren't ameliorated.
cardassians do not like the cold, and will enter a state of cold induced torpor in temperatures which are relatively survivable for a human being. even when it isn't cold enough to threaten their health, a cardassian can become drowsy and uncomfortable in cooler temperatures. they tend to find temperatures of 25°C and above the most comfortable.
they have dichromatic vision, which corresponds to red-green colour blindness in humans. however, despite having less cone cells, their eyes have far more rod cells than a human being, giving them excellent night vision. this is aided by the presence of a tapetum lucidum (which has the added bonus of looking super creepy in a dark room).
the forehead ridge or "chufa" (i've heard this term was coined in a particular cardassian speculative biology fic but i have yet to find it, please lmk if you have a link!) is actually a pineal eye. like most (extant earth animal) pineal eyes, it is covered with skin and has little purpose other than differentiating between light and shadow. most cardassians are not consciously aware of perception from this eye, but may subconsciously change their behaviour based on its input (i.e., a cardassian with their chufa covered may end up feeling fatigued, as light detection from the chufa helps them to maintain their circadian rhythm and if light isn't falling on it, their body will produce more sleep hormones). a sleeping cardassian can quickly be woken by a change in ambient light, as their chufa never "closes", and so can detect light changes even when they're asleep.
cardassians are more light sensitive than humans. their natural circadian rhythm is more crepuscular than diurnal, and so they are most alert and active at dawn/dusk or in lower light levels.
cardassians have both "scales" and hair, much like an armadillo. the scales function as armor plating, with the most armor on the sides and back of the neck, and over the spine, although it is present to some degree over the whole body.
they have to shed in order to grow, and adults continue to shed their scales, albeit at a lower frequency. shedding happens once every few months in children and juveniles, and once ever 1-3 years in adults. shedding lasts about 2 weeks. it is seen as a time of vulnerability, as it generally leads to a decrease in energy, among other symptoms, and a freshly shed cardassian's armor is soft and easy to pierce. for that reason, adult cardassians will often disguise the signs of shedding (i.e., paling of the scales is compensated for through applying makeup etc), and usually become reclusive and defensive once it can no longer be disguised.
cardassians naturally have a range of pigmentation in the chufa and neck ridges, ranging from grey to bright blue. these areas contain simple chromatophores, and in all cardassians they tend to "flush" blue when they're excited or experiencing intense emotions. however, their "neutral" colour can differ greatly from individual to individual. some cardassians use makeup to enhance the colours (think blush or lipstick in humans), as a more vivid blue is sometimes seen as attractive. the coloration is not sexually dimorphic.
cardassians do not have a corpus callosum between their brain hemispheres, instead they have multiple commissures. i might think more abt this one and the potential effects on cognition later but rn i just think it's cool and wanted to include a mention of it at least

After the body swap, Aziraphale had discovered a secret that Crowley never wanted him to find out. When the swap happened, many colors had faded and the world seemed to look completely different to Aziraphale. The demon’s fiery locks had faded into a brown color, yet his eyes remained the yellow color that he had known for millennia now.
Crowley had always hated his eyes, and the color yellow. That just so happened to be Aziraphale’s favorite color, mostly because of the demon himself. Trust him, Aziraphale was well aware of the demon’s hatred for his eyes in general, believing that they were just another insult from The Almighty and a reminder that he was the Serpent Of Eden, and had been the one to tempt Eve into eating the apple in the first place.
If Aziraphale hadn’t been on apple tree duty that day, he most likely would’ve never met Crowley. Well, back then he had been “Crawley”. His point still stood though. Sitting in The Ritz, Aziraphale blurted out the question quite abruptly.
“Crowley, why in all the years that I have known you, have you never made me aware that you were partially colorblind?” Crowley practically spat his drink across the table. Aziraphale wasn’t surprised about his response to this, as he had given him no warning. Crowley mumbled a response quietly, but still loud enough for the Angel to hear.
“Well, when you spend 6000 years having snake eyes and being colorblind, you get used to it.” Aziraphale’s eyebrows furrowed before practically dragging him out of The Ritz, despite Crowley’s protests. He had an idea.
“Angel! Where the Heaven are you taking me?!” Aziraphale practically dragged Crowley back to St. James’s Park, sitting down on bright green grass. Patting the ground next to him, he smiled at the demon who slowly sat. A few ducks wandered about in the darkness, the sounds of crickets filling the air.
“Crowley. I want to see what you see.” Crowley raised an eyebrow at him, Aziraphale chuckling softly. Inhaling deeply, he tilted his head quizzically.
“Ngk, um, your eyes are a very light blueish-purple-“ Aziraphale raised his eyebrows at him, hoping to fill in the word he was missing.
“Periwinkle?” Crowley nodded, Aziraphale beaming as he listed off questions. He wanted to know Crowley’s world. Through his eyes. Aziraphale pointed upwards.
“What about space? Can you see it?” Giving a breathy laugh, he nodded. Aziraphale snapped his fingers and a picnic blanket was underneath the pair.
“The stars are the same color as your eyes. Never minded that part of being colorblind.” Aziraphale scooted closer to Crowley, his head resting on Crowley’s chest as Crowley ran his free hand through Aziraphale’s unruly curls. Pointing out constellation after constellation, Aziraphale gave small hums of agreement, letting Crowley know he was still listening.
He had made stars up in Heaven, although Aziraphale wasn’t sure if he remembered that part. He still was fascinated by stars, galaxies, and nebulae just as much as he was back then. He tried not to show it though.
“That there is Ursa Minor.” Nodding, Aziraphale let his eyes shut, still listening to Crowley. The Little Dipper. He loved seeing his demon so passionate about some of the galaxies he helped create.
“So what is the true difference between a planet and a star?” Crowley seemed to answer a little too quickly, to his embarrassment.
“Stars produce their own light and heat. Planets can’t. That’s why we see them in space.” Aziraphale gave a small ‘huh’ noise. Crowley was filled with knowledge of the universe that was just as vast as the thing itself. He had said this in a tone that implied that it was simply common knowledge and he didn’t quite understand why some people didn’t know.
Crowley was Aziraphale’s star. He would forever shine brighter than a demon or Angel because he was different. The Almighty may have taken away some of his vision, but they granted him “Imagination”. He was one of the most creative people he knew.
Crowley was akin to a star in the way he shined, but also, he was like a planet, forever orbiting Aziraphale. The two supernatural beings were their own nebulae. Colorful and bright. Gasses and dust mixed together in a beautiful galactic dance that created a kaleidoscope of colors.
Each time they interact, more and more protostars are born. Still young. Babies that are just starting out. And it will stay that way for billions of years. Like Crowley had said before, a nebula is a star factory.
They were each other’s universes. Every touch, kiss, hug, creating an explosion of a supernova. Hot as energy surged off of them in waves. Then it was back to becoming nebulae again. The process happened in a never ending cycle. He glanced up at Crowley’s fiery red locks.
He was Aziraphale’s own Red Giant star. Exhaling, he let out a content sigh. As long as he had Crowley, he would be happy with his partner and every single one of his periwinkle tinted protostars.

Does Husk think Angel is Green?
Ok, so I just saw a video about a theory that Alastor has the same vision of a deer (dichromatic vision). They can see yellow and blues, but not red and green. So they did a video with a filter that may be how Alastor sees colors.
Now I need to know, could Husk have cat vision? Here's what an article said about how a cat sees color:
"They can see shades of blue and green, but reds and pinks can be confusing. These may appear more green, while purple can look like another shade of blue."
So, does Husk think that most of hell is green and blue?!?! Does he think that Angel is a shade of light green? I need to know!!!!!

SPOILERS FOR GOOD OMENS SEASON 2
This probably wasn't intentional but I can't get it out of my head.
The nebula Crowley created looks very similar to The Eagle Nebula which is famous for being the location of the Pillars of Creation. The Eagle Nebula lies in the SERPENS constellation.
Here's the heart breaking thing. As we obviously know, post-fall Crowley is a snake demon with permanent snake eyes.
Snake vision is dichromatic. They predominantly see in hues of greens and blues. Red and yellow light wavelengths arn't usually on their visual spectrum.
Imagine creating this nebula. The gorgeous reds, yellows and oranges. Now imagine being punished for asking questions by being given snake eyes. Ones that only see blues and greens.
Now imagine wearing glasses not only to cover up your non human eyes, but because they are specialized to allow the colourblind to see a full spectrum of colour.
You take them off when you are in the presence of the person you trust most, because with them and in their space you feel safe enough to be vulnerable.
You take them off to declare your love to that someone.
That someone, the one person who you can feel vulnerable with, who knows your history and who you are safe to be yourself with, chooses not you, but the people who took away your ability to see the beauty you once created.
Poor Crowley.

Did you know cats have whiskers on their feet it's right up near their topmost toe it helps them figure out where to pounce when hunting
Shrews are cool as FUCK so because they are so small they need to have a very high metabolism- small body = loses heat faster some of them are as small as almonds!!! they are incredibly powerful hunters and can hold a territory that can be up to over 600 yards!!!! they have to eat a LOT to keep up with their high metabolism so when they hunt they will kill something and leave it there if they manage to catch something else before they finish eating and only once they no longer have any prey to catch will they eat their stockpile, the bodies of their kills are usually stacked up together. Shrews also have super fast heart and breath rates they lose heat super fast and their heart can be up to 800 bpm and their breath up to 500/minute Shrews live in high altitude and climates so how are they keeping their body warm? they use the snow as an insulater! they'll burrow under the snow and use it as a way to keep the heat inside their tunnels. when a shrew is pregnant they will eat a lot more a 7lb shrew will eat 8lbs of food for example- and their milk can shift through lactation for nutrition (colostrum and weaning milk for example)
speaking of reproduction- just like bees male mouse opossums will die right after mating- as they reach their sexual maturity they will go into overdrive they won't eat and have a very high stress level males of this species very rarely survive more than a year
you might know that all animals (aside from primates/humans) have an extra layer in the back of their eye called the tapetum lucidum, this is what eye shine is ot helps soak in light when in the dark

only primates have trichromatic vision most mammals only have dichromatic vision where they lack the cone rods to see green/yellow colors
ok so hearing right? so most animals other than us have pinna which makes it so their ears can move towards sound but mammals also hear different frequencies like I'm sure you've heard about how cats talk to their kittens in a different way than older cats? humans do that too! when we use baby talk for pets or children but some animals speak out of our frequencies entirely for example mice will sing to each other to find mates!
OK more specific animal facts- beavers are SICK ok so their skulls look like this
see that giant open space behind their front teeth? they use that space to suck in their cheeks to create a blockage and make sure they don't get wood chips down their throat when chomping on trees for their dams
bats have little tiny bumps on their wings for wind turbulence
some fish have electroreception which is when you can sense electric currents by other organisms with like open channels on their cells but so can MOLES!!!
baby cheetas are born with extra fur and slightly different markings to look more like Hyena pups so that they are less likely to be attacked by them
speed round- farm edition (because I was an animal educator at a farm for years)
goats are immune to poison ivy and you can still drink their milk after
horses only breathe through their nose they can't breathe from their mouths
domestic sheep HAVE to be sheared every year as they will just continue to grow wool forever and ever until death
llamas are super clean animals a llama herd will designate one specific area for pooping they're also super good guard animals and are used to kill foxes going after chickens sometimes
emus can run 31mph (the one I worked with named Mu was also mean as hell but they can be super sweet)
bunnies sleep with their eyes open as they are prey animals they also will almost always poop as they are eating and must be eating or at least offered food nearly 24/7 or they will die similar to a shrew
goat horns are connected directly to their skulls and they LOVE when you scratch in-between them for them :)
most animals have a baculum (penis bone) except us and herbivores [that was an adult group fact not a children group fact]
