the first time dean and cas share a bed it feels like coming home for dean. it’s lovely but he’s also wildly conflicted. he feels like he doesn’t deserve this - rest, peace, companionship, and most certainly love. he doesn’t deserve the softness and intimacy of a true partnership, doesn’t deserve to wake up next to cas. cas who sits with him all night, cuddling and reading, even though he doesn’t sleep. he goes to bed with dean every night, can’t imagine leaving dean to fend for himself anymore against the chill of the night air or the nightmares. it takes years for dean to accept that cas is there, and he loves him for who he is. he isn’t weak for craving soft things, dean’s softness makes him stronger. cas loves how his eyes warm when dean wakes up and rolls over, sees cas holding him. he feels like someone, somewhere finally decided he deserves something good.

in reality he’s finally accepting all of the good that cas had been surrounding him with for years.

I’m glad that folks ARE questioning and fact checking this summary, it’s good to fact check anything these days and that has prompted me to clarify some parts of the post while others are updating the information. There’s a lot going on in the world right now and to view it solely through tumblr lenses means y’ won’t get the whole story. I hope this post, while not 100% correct, updates and explain some parts of current events to lead them into doing their own independent investigation into the full story.

it’s fun to head cannon it and read fanfics but if we’re talking truly cannon then it’s a toxic, messy horrible ship

Love Notes Written In Salt And Lipstick  Chapter 1: The End

Dean pulled Cas into a kiss. Didn’t even have to think about it.

Like. Sure Cas had been dead before, splattered across the walls of Chuck’s house like sick modern art. That had been bad, but at least he’d gone out fighting. This time... Dean had watched him die in that bleak, bombed out future Zachariah sent him to, where Lucifer was wearing Sam’s body, and Dean had turned cruel. The sort of person who sent Cas to his death casually. For nothing. For a distraction.

So if right now he was standing on some random deserted street corner in Kanas City with his arms around Cas, trying to protect a body that could take a knife or a bullet without flinching - if he had to kiss him to let him know that he did matter, that this mattered - and say sorry to that other Cas, who a few days ago, five years from now, was throwing orgies he was too high to remember with women whose names he didn’t even know… well. Dean had never been the poster boy for healthy coping mechanisms.

All he knew was Cas’ kiss didn’t taste like smoke or absinthe. It didn’t taste like anything. And Dean kept it going, until he managed to convince himself that it was real. Mostly convince himself.

He broke away. Felt Cas go as silent and rigid as a statue in his arms. Probably, it was a decent idea to back off. But the second he did, one of Cas’ arms curled around him and it was like backing into a wrought-iron fence.

Cas stared at him. Head to the side like he had been asked a question.

“Cas. It’s - I’m…” Dean could do this. “Good to see you. Really, really good timing.”

He could make this right. He could call Sam, tell him he’d been an idiot for saying they should split up. Make it so that nightmare future never happened. Take better care of Cas.

... but then, he knew that he was guilty of looking at Cas and seeing, well, Cas. Not the normal guy who let an angel wear his body. And he was important too. Dean sure couldn’t ignore the broken bits of Jimmy Novak floating around Cas’ head in that awful future. He was still replaying that heart-stopping moment when one of those pieces seemed to surface, and all Jimmy could do was scream.

“Hey Cas…” He wasn't even trying to fight the angelic strength. “Is Jimmy okay?”

Cas looked confused. “You are referring to my vessel?”

“Yeah. You know. Is he... how’s he doing?”

Castiel gave Dean a strange, glazed look. Then the arms holding him shook, the body temperature cooled. Dean had zero idea what was going on, but didn’t have time to do anything about it before the grip around him was different. Now the body leaning against him had a totally normal, totally human amount of strength. And was breathing hard.

Anyways, hellers and AAs want it both ways: they want Jared’s validation and also to be Jensen's cheerleader from the sidelines lol. Very similar how hellers want Sam to be a Destiel cheerleader and call that Sam-inclusive in their fics when we all know it's just another form of low-key Sam hate. They ain't fooling anybody and revealed themselves when they went apeshit over Jared liking the SPN finale and tried and failed to slander him a h0m0phbe.

See, what's going on is that hellers and AAs want to be The Cool Kids and they'll do it by stalking and harassing others in public spaces to try and shame others into versions of themselves. That's not how it works, of course, but that's what they think could happen (see my experience with them on IMDb). And if Jared is Jensen's cheerleaders then it proves in their eyes that 1) Jared has lower status than Jensen just like cheerleaders have lower status than football players, and 2) they can use it against Jared's fans as evidence that they should be fangirling Jensen instead of Jared.

Jensen is their avatar, and they just want to be loved and popular and be The Cool Kids and gatekeep who gets to sit at their cool table. But hellers and AAs don't understand they were never The Cool Kids in the first place, and that we're not in high school anymore. So they don't understand why Jared "won", or why the rest of SPN fans doesn't join their freakouts over everything that Jared says or does. When Jared left their high school and threw open the SPN doors, the AAs/hellers went apeshit because he showed there is a world outside those doors besides who gets to sit at the cool kid table. Its why they say Jared "betrayed" Jensen by taking a job at another TV show and essentially ending SPN and Jensen's job. When The Winchestesr prequel received overwhelming negative reactions of "Let It Die", they further felt invalidated through their Jensen-shaped avatar.

After all, the hellers and AAs just want to be loved and popular.  But as Jared and his fans continue to move away, the hellers and AAs’ freakouts and cannibal feast are coming closer and closer to them as the rewards are getting smaller and smaller as their head cannons are left to die.

Haven't written fic since I was 16 and writing destiel one shots lmaoooo but gay pirate show brain rot will do that to you I guess. Quick drabble for my take on what the Stede/Ed reunion could look like...

“Look here!” Stede calls, pointing excitedly towards the horizon. After weeks of rowing, the whole crew crammed into a tiny dinghy, they finally catch up to the Revenge. They let out a cheer at the sight. Stede feels his heartbeat speed up, and he can’t help but let out an excited whoop of his own.

Their excitement is short-lived though, as it appears they are not the only ones to have found the Revenge - so has the British navy. The two ships are pulled up close to each other, and, as Stede can see from peering through his spyglass, the British soldiers have already boarded the Revenge.

Stede sighs nervously, looking around at his wide-eyed crew. There’s no more time for what if’s, only confronting whatever they find on the ship in front of them. Whoever, or whatever, Ed has become, the only way now is forward. Stede nods towards the Revenge and Oluwande picks up his rowing pace, a breathless, joyous “Jim” escaping his mouth as he pulls on the oars.

They float up to the side of the Revenge and Stede nearly falls out of the small boat in his haste to reach the ladder hanging off her side. He clambers aboard his ship to find it in absolute chaos. The sound of violence fills the air - swords clashing together, limp bodies hitting the deck, cannon fire ringing. Jim is darting across the deck, throwing daggers at any British soldier they can reach. Ivan wields a large ax, swinging it in the direction of a particularly furious looking soldier. Izzy has his back to the mast, his dagger pushed into the stomach of a falling body.

Stede scans the deck frantically, looking for, ah - and there he is, locked in a vicious battle up by the helm, sword slicing cleanly through the air to smash against the blade of a British noble. Stede wastes a few moments in shock at the state of Ed: his face smudged with kohl, his hair tangled and loose, his stance unsteady.

He’d heard things, of course, stories from his crew about what Ed had become, books tossed overboard and friends left marooned, but this - this was worse than he could have imagined. The sight of it nearly has him climbing back into the dinghy and rowing away as fast as he can. What on earth has he done to this lovely, lovely man?

He watches in horror as Ed barely dodges a dangerously close blow and it snaps him back into reality. Whatever he did cannot be fixed if Ed doesn’t make it through this fight. Stede begins charging through the battle towards Ed, swerving around daggers and swords slicing through the air. A cannon blast peels into the side of the ship, deafening. In a panic, Stede cries out.

“Ed!” He shouts, voice laced with fear.

As soon as the words pass his lips, time seems to slow down. Stede will spend the next few weeks replaying these moments in his head over and over again until he’s not sure what’s real and what's nightmare.

Ed, distracted by the sound of Stede’s voice, turns his head away from the battle, eyes wide and confused. The British soldier he’s fighting takes this distraction as an opportunity and pushes forward to drive his blade clean through Edward’s stomach. Ed grunts in pain as the hilt crashes into his body, still staring in shock at Stede. The soldier lets out a surprised cheer before he suddenly falls to the ground, a bullet blown straight through the center of his chest. Stede can’t even bother to wonder where the shot came from as he watches Ed drop to his knees, sword dripping blood where it protrudes from his back.

“Oh dear,” he chokes out breathlessly, rushing through the battle towards Ed, a faint ringing in his ears. “Ed! Ed!” he calls, voice cracking. “Oh god, oh no, oh, oh, oh, Ed,” Stede reaches the other man just as he slumps backwards, falling to sit on his heels in a position that can’t possibly be comfortable with his bad knee. “I’m here, I’m here, I’m right here, just don’t - fuck - there’s no need to worry, no bother at all. It’s on the left side, see? No trouble at all. No trouble at all now.” He’s babbling, hands shaking as he falls to his knees in front of Ed.

Ed grunts in pain, reaching a hand to the deck to steady himself and turning his face upwards to meet Stede’s eyes. He huffs out a small laugh, gaze cloudy and body swaying off kilter.

“Ed,” Stede chokes out. He reaches towards him with a tender hand, moving to cup his kohl-covered cheek.

It’s like someone flicks a light switch across Ed’s face. He freezes, flinching away from Stede’s touch. “You - ,“ he growls, accusatory, his body tense. Stede’s hand stops dead in midair. You what? You’re here? Of course Stede is here, of course he’s here with Ed; he can hardly imagine ever being anywhere else again.

Pain flickers across Ed’s face, so briefly that Stede almost wonders if he imagined it, and then his gaze flattens, emptying into a look Stede’s never seen before, a look that is terrifyingly hollow and cruel. “You should’n ‘av come.” It’s the last thing he says before his body goes limp and he slumps forward onto Stede, unconscious.

Hi again. It's the anon who asked for fic recs. :) To answer your question first, I would love it as long as it's Castiel-centric (don't really mind whether there's shipping or not as long as the story is good and Cas is being his awesome self) though currently I'm craving happy fics only because the Nov 5 stuff make me sad with how the story ended for Cas (definitely adding your fic in my To-Read list for better days though). I wanna read him getting the happiness and love he deserves.

One of the things that drew me to his character (the very first fics that I've read that accidentally got me into the fandom were finale fix-its) was reading about this millenia old being not knowing the form his happiness could possibly take and then capitalizing on his deal with an incomprehensible primordial entity that's less of a deal and more of a curse to save the man he loves. My personal interpretation for that had always been that the happiness comes from being able to speak his truth and at the same time knowing that he'd get to ensure that his loved one lives on. Because if happiness is just solely in the being, the deal would have been triggered even before that (since nothing has essentially changed with his being) and it can't be just in the saying (because he'd have to consider how his words are received). Not to mention that it should have been impossible for him to find happiness in that moment because the knowledge of the deal hangs over his head and yet he was able to do so and for a purpose. That's kinda amazing so I kept reading more (just those fixits at first and then I just diverged) Most of them were Destiel and I did enjoy the ones that gave Cas a happy ending. The more I read though, the more I noticed that for a lot of Destiel fics, despite being written with obvious fondness with Castiel's character, his feelings and relationships to other characters become secondary to whatever comfort he can provide to address Dean and his issues. For example, I don't understand it when Jack would bring Cas back because of Dean. Isn't he Cas' son and wouldn't it make more sense if he was more protective over him and would attempt to do so regardless? (which is how I'm choosing to interpret why Cas was in heaven in the finale but he never showed up again? Haha don't actually know how to separate what really happened or not since I really haven't watched a single episode and could only assume canon events from the commonalities in canon divergent fics)

I'm sorry that this got long but existing in the fringes of the fandom without technically being in it means I don't have many people to talk about this with. :)

Oh OK so now I have two I think you may like. They are both actually a bit destiel but just in the background.

The love story of the Runner up (its about Cas having a relationship with a normal well adjusted kind man)

Pretend you are going to miss me (it's post-cannon and all the angels are resurrected and it's from Balthazar's perspective but still all about Castiel and it's also very angel centric which is refreshing)

In addition I enjoyed most of Northern Sparrow's fics (back in the days when I can still enjoy destiel. She does give Cas proper credit for how amazing he is and there is a lot of tear jerking moments but they all have happy endings. The two I liked best were Forgotten and The most important thing. I can't read them anymore because there is too much Dean in them but if it doesn't bother you then they are very good stories.

And no Jack didn't bring Cas back because of Dean, if that's in some fic then I'm glad I didn't read it. Cas is in heaven but never showed up again because the writer didn't care about Cas and once he was sacrificed he was only given an afterthought of a line from Bobby that he was in heaven. Dean never even asked Jack to bring Cas back.

I love destiel in fanfiction but my unpopular head cannon Dean would need someone a bit more rugged ( Benny I could see in Canon) Castiel yes... But Cas is too soft

Cas is the one who discovers sea shanties. He likes how they were designed to relieve boredom and to set the pace of the sailors as they hoisted sail. They remind him of heaven, how the angels would work together like an oiled machine in a never ending, unspoken rhythm.

He finds a few online and starts singing them around the bunker, unafraid to let his gravelly voice echo down the hallways as he makes his bed, does the laundry.

After a while, Dean joins in, singing his tenored harmony from the kitchen while he’s cooking meals. He throws himself into the song, piratey accent and all.

Eventually, reluctantly, Sam is the last to join in, looking up from his research and ending each chorus with a resounding “HEY!”
