Summary: Missing scenes between Fitz and the team; Fitz and Jemma introduce Alya to their family.
Chapter 4 Snippet:
Alya was two and a half when she went on a nap strike. Jemma was positive that Alya was too young to stop napping altogether (despite her own admission that, according to her parents, she herself had stopped napping right after her second birthday; Fitz, on the other hand, remembered napping through nursery school). But after a week of forty-five-minute attempts to lull Alya to sleep for what ended up being twenty- or thirty-minute naps, Jemma gave up.
“At least until Enoch gets back,” she said with a sigh, picking up a determinedly bright-eyed Alya. Enoch was on a supply run for the next few days, but once he returned, maybe he would have better luck than either of them.
“We’ll just take her to the lab with us,” Fitz said, gathering up Alya’s toys (and a blanket and a pillow; while she’d never been the kind of kid to just fall asleep mid-play, there was a first time for everything, he reasoned). When he saw Jemma squeeze her eyes shut and rub her forehead, he paused. “You all right?”
“Yeah, just a headache,” she said lightly. “Too much time staring at a screen.”
“And not enough time sleeping,” Fitz said. You’d think taking shorter naps would mean that Alya would sleep better at night, but according to all their research (and they’d done a lot), that wasn’t how toddler brains worked. Instead, she’d been up two or three times a night for the past week.
Jemma brushed a hand over Alya’s hair. “Mmm, I suppose.”
With the toys, blanket, and pillow wedged between his elbow and his side, Fitz held out his hands to take Jemma from Alya. “Well, just because she doesn’t want a nap doesn’t mean you can’t take one.”
Jemma curled her arms around Alya more tightly. “But I’ve almost got those calculations figured out.” She’d been working on determining the precise degree to which the cryo-pod would need to lower May’s core temperature so that they could transfer her to the healing pod, but the calculations had been giving her more trouble than usual, probably due to interrupted and insufficient sleep.
Fitz raised his eyebrows. “And maybe after you sleep on it, you’ll have them figured out completely, yeah?” He held his hands out more insistently. “C’mon, we’ll be fine for a couple of hours. She can help me with Coulson.”

Were you aware your fly was down the entire time?
Fitz and Enoch
Thanks for being patient, nonny! Here you go!
He wasn’t sure how he had even ended up here, wearing a suit, staring at a board of directors in Deke’s place of all people. He was a sucker for big sad eyes, and Deke’s pleading face reminded him so much of Jemma that he couldn’t say no. So, while Deke was helping Trevor get home and settled after being in the hospital from the Chronicom attack, Fitz was at his company running a presentation. He didn’t know anything about the company, but he did know tech, and he wasn’t afraid of public speaking.
Damn Deke and his injured boyfriend and his big sad eyes.
“And you are?” one of the directors asked.
“Leo Fitz, I’m an engineer, part of Deke’s consulting team. He had a family emergency so I’ll be taking over for him and answering any questions you may have in his absence.”
“And you are qualified for that?” the same director asked. He was older, with a permanent frown, wearing a button-down with one too many buttons open. Fitz did not like him.
“I am,” he said. “I have a doctorate in engineering, as well as sixteen years of experience in laboratory and field settings. Deke handpicked me to present specifically because he knows and trusts my qualifications.”
“May I ask, if you don’t mind, how old you are, young man?” another director asked, this one an older woman with a streak of grey at the front of her dark hair. She had a severe look in her eyes, clearly doubting Fitz. He wasn’t sure how Deke Shaw survived any of these meetings.
“I’m thirty-two,” he replied evenly.
“And you have sixteen years of experience?”
“I graduated with my PhD when I was sixteen,” he said, and there was a wave of hushed murmurs across the boardroom. Fitz was used to that response, somehow.
“Continue, then, Doctor Fitz,” one of the younger directors said.
Fitz had Deke’s notes about the launch and merchandising of the device, while he’d left the details about the device up to Fitz. He went over the pitch with the directors, and when it was time, he signalled Enoch in. Enoch, who was older than time probably and had saved his life countless times, had been reduced to Vanna White for their presentation. He was a good sport, though, wheeling in the cart full of prototypes. Enoch demonstrated while Fitz narrated the steps and functions of the device.
They had a bunch of questions even after they got a chance to play with the devices and see how they worked up close and personal, but Fitz had been presenting for years, and knew how to handle them. Even though he had confidence, their beady eyes were unnerving.
“Thank you, Doctor Fitz, one of the directors said. “We’ll discuss this and give Mr. Shaw our answer when he’s back in the office on Monday.”
“Thank you for your time, Directors,” he replied, setting the last device back in its spot on the cart. He and Enoch left the board room, and once they had turned the corner away from the line of sigh, he slumped against the wall. “I’m never doing that again. You get to do it next time.”
“Were you aware your fly was down the entire time?” Enoch asked evenly. Fitz’s heart jack-rabitted against his ribs and he looked down at his pants, panicked that he had embarrassed himself in there and no one had told him. Except that when he inspected the area, his fly was perfectly in place. He looked up at Enoch. Enoch never smiled, but Fitz had learned his expressions over the years, and he could see the amusement in his eyes, a little twinkle.
“I have done what humans call a practical joke.”
Fitz groaned.
“Your pranks are gonna need some work,” he said with a little laugh. “But that was good, mate. Very good. Good job.”
“Thank you, bestie,” he replied proudly.
“Come on, I need to get these back to the development team, and you and I will talk about your next prank. It’ll be epic.”

AoS finale thoughts that no one asked for...
1. Elizabeth's ACTING.
Her blank looks and confused stares at information/all of the people she's known for years. The comedy, her wanting a costume for protection. The stream of random babbling that was very important nonsense. The moment she remembered Alya and she reached for her stomach. Their reunion. Just everything.
2. Alya.
I knew just from that one look from Iain De Caesteker when he was trying to get Jemma to remember and she said the star name Alya that it was their daughter's name. Just one look. World class actors on this show. All of them.
3. Deke.
At first I was mad. Very mad. Not because he was left behind but because of the way it was treated. Like he didn't matter, like a joke. I'm still a little mad about it. But I'm focusing on him rather than the team. Because look at where he started vs where he ended and I think Deke's character arc was so well done. We saw all of the work. We saw selfish OG straight from the future Deke, we saw the Deke who thought he had a place with the team and a family get left behind again. We saw him go through his issues and learn from them to get to "I don't give up on my friends". He sold out the team, his instincts were always to look out for himself, they had to be in his world. Given the chance to grow and be a part of a family, he gladly and willingly gave up everything for them all. It wasn't even a question in his mind, their happiness over his. That ladies and gentlemen is character growth and I love one Agent Deke Shaw 🍋
4. Mack/ Yoyo
I screamed SO LOUD when they showed Mack on the helicarrier. I love Mack. He was always the best choice for Director. Also, Uncle Mack sending presents? Yes, please. Protector Mack laughing with Sousa and then questioning his intentions with Daisy. Love the Director. That final scene when Yoyo just peaced out of a moving vehicle just like byeeee after asking for videos of Alya swimming? Unphased badass queen. I love their relationship so much because it's so solid. They aren't the ones who get constantly torn apart and its not big and dramatic, that's not who they are. They both put their jobs before themselves because they love to help other people. Their relationship is an accumulation all of those little things you see them do for each other and I think it's beautiful.
5. May/Coulson
Honestly? Unpopular opinion but I was happy with their ending. In my head, I never considered a relationship between May and LMD Coulson. Coulson died. May had whatever time with him in Tahiti and she mourned him and said goodbye. Then Sarge came along and stabbed her. May doesn't need anyone. She is not a relationship. She loved Coulson and they had their time together but he died. I was honestly surprised to see the backlash? Having a romantic relationship with a robot...not healthy. What happens when she ages and he stays the same lmd Coulson? May had to move forward and she did. I lived for the moment that she owned the Calvary name.
6. Daisy
Not to braggg but I called Daisy/Sousa before the season even started. It was the easiest way to give Daisy a relationship with a character that we were all already emotionally invested in. It takes time that the writers didn't have to establish a whole new character that would be good enough for Daisy and Sousa was...recently available. I love them together. But more importantly, Daisy/Chloe Bennet crushed it. The fight scenes, the emotions, the subtlety. PERFECT. Daisy calling Coulson, AC? I lost it. She was so afraid to lose her family but it just got bigger and her face at the end 😊
I wish there was a bus kids scene. Or Daisy's reaction to Fitzsimmons having a kid. It also perturbed me about FitzSimmons retiring completely, except Simmons seemed to be secretly not? That was weird to me. Was she still working because she is an extraordinarly intelligent person who probably wouldn't do well with nothing to apply her brain to for the next 40-50 years of her life, and keeping it a secret from Fitz? Which is not in character at all? Did I misread that scene? BUT overall, I think they did a pretty good job of wrapping up all of the storylines while still leaving it open ended enough for more.

Deke Shaw - Nervous
Based on Nervous by Shawn Mendes.
Word Count: 2,148
I saw you on a Sunday in a café
And all you did was look my way
And my heart started to race
And my hands started to shake, yeah
The first time Deke saw you was after you had assisted Simmons in Yo-yo’s care after she got her arms chopped off by the mysterious assassin. You were a shield scientist to start off with but had joined the shield team when they fought Daniel Whitehall and Daisy’s parents. Since you were extremely intelligent, Fitz and Simmons had taken you under their wing and taught you everything they knew and you frequently assisted them – becoming part of the team.
Daisy introduced you to Deke once you’d cleaned up and gotten some rest. Unbeknownst to you, after you’d left to check on Simmons and Yo-yo, Deke’s hands started shaking and his heart sped up – he definitely liked you and Daisy picked up on his obvious attraction.
I heard you asked about me through a friend
My adrenaline kicked in
'Cause I've been askin' 'bout you too
And now we're out here in this room
“She is way out of your league.” She said to him while they were in the storage room in the lighthouse looking for some supplies to help with Yo-yo’s injuries.
Deke coughed awkwardly, “Wha-, What you mean?” He stuttered.
“Y/N. I saw how you were looking at her and she is way out of your league.” Daisy explained, pulling things off shelves, trying her best to ignore her little Deke problem.
“Well, if she’s so far out of my league, what can I do to get into her league?” Deke asked, unsure of the slang and terminology of this decade. Daisy chuckled at Deke’s words, continuing to pick things off the shelves so Deke ran in front of her, “Come on, what does she like in a guy? You know, what can I do?”
“Fine, I’ll play.” Daisy responded, turning to Deke, “She’s shy. I’ve never really known her to speak up too much about what she likes but I know that she hates big gestures and having herself be the centre of attention. She likes the little things that let her know you care, are we done now?”
“Fine, I guess that was slightly helpful.” He muttered, looking down at the ground but his attention was brought back when Daisy yelled his name. He looked behind him and saw a Kree launching towards him with a bloody knife. A fight ensued but was ended when Daisy shot the Kree, it turning to ash and Deke’s skin saved.
Caught me staring in your eyes
And I'm not usually like this
But I like what you're doing to me
The team had found out about the fear dimension thanks to Daisy and Deke, and after a heated debate about who should do the self-sacrifice job, Coulson passed out. You had been the first person to respond to his fall until Fitz had gotten Simmons to help – since you had a lot of medical expertise but nowhere near as much as she did. You had left Coulson in her hands and were on your way to check on Yo-yo before your brain got to you.
Fear clouded your senses and you collapsed on the floor, pushing yourself up against a wall and letting out your tears. You hadn’t seen the team in months and when they finally got back even more hell broke loose, so much that you couldn’t handle it any more. You’d been having small anxiety attacks since you were little and you had mostly grown out of them until you joined SHIELD. Simmons had found out and suggested you leave the team but you were determined to stay so you worked with her on how to control your emotions but every now and then you would just explode, and now was one of those moments.
Deke was pacing, waiting for orders from Coulson when he heard crying and followed it. He saw you sitting with your knees to your chest, crying into your hands and he couldn’t stop himself from helping.
“Y/N?” He asked, quietly so he wouldn’t spook you. You looked up, with tear-stained cheeks, sniffing and rubbing under your reddened nose. “What’s wrong?” He asked, sitting down next to you. You were taken aback, usually people would ask if you were okay or try to help you with your breathing but Deke was different.
“It’s just… everything is just a bit too much right now.” You whispered, sniffing again.
Deke put his hand on top of yours and smiled, “I get it, sometimes just everything feels like it’s crushing you, but you’re not holding it up alone. My mom used to say; ‘The steps you take don’t need to be big, they just need to take you in the right direction.’ So don’t worry about not being able to hold everything up all the time. Sometimes just holding up one thing is okay.”
“Yeah,” You replied, looking up at his eyes – which you hadn’t noticed before now. They were a faded grey with spots of green.
“Deke!” You heard Coulson yelling, drawing you out of your trance-like state. “Deke!” He yelled again, prompting Deke to move from his position sitting next to you.
“Guess I gotta go. Feel better.” He said, before walking towards the sound of Coulson’s voice.
“Deke,” you called, he turned to look back over at you, “Thank you.”
He smiled, “Don’t mention it.” He replied before jogging off in the direction he was headed.
You got me acting like I've never done this before
I promise I'll be ready when I walk through the door
And I don't know why
No, I don't know why
After Deke had arrived back at the lighthouse with some other members of SHIELD including; Mike Peterson and Agents Davis. He made sure to catch up with you when he saw you walking out of Yo-yo’s room.
“Hey, Y/N.” He called to get your attention.
You stopped in your tracks and swiftly turned around, facing the future man, “Hey, Deke. How was your mission above ground? You see the world?”
He smiled, widely, “It was awesome, but how are you doing? Feeling better?” He asked, concern on his face.
“Yeah,” You said, nodding, “Fitz and I came up with a way to stop the fear dimension, Coulson’s down there now. I just… couldn’t be in that room with everyone. Too much pressure.”
“I could wait here with you, if you’d like? So you’re not waiting alone.” He asked, you were silent for a moment, thinking about how to respond when he continued, “I’ve been told I make a good distraction.”
“Yeah, yeah… thanks, that’d be good.” You said, sitting down against the wall, Deke following suit.
You had a nice conversation with you both taking turns asking about each other’s time periods before you were alerted by the team that Coulson was safe and well and the fear dimension was destroyed. You realised that while talking to Deke, your anxiety hadn’t overflown like it usually did in situations like the one you were in and you were thankful.
I get a little bit nervous around you
Get a little bit stressed out when I think about you
Get a little excited, baby, when I think about you, yeah
Over the course of the next few weeks, you had been thinking more and more about Deke and your conversations. Whenever you were feeling anxious or scared, he’d always be there to calm you down and distract you. You had returned the favour after he found out that he was FitzSimmons’ grandson.
You returned the favour again after Deke was almost killed by Ruby Hale. He had to have surgery and you were the head surgeon on duty, since Simmons was away on mission. Thankfully, the surgery went well and there was minimal damage, even after Deke’s freak out.
“Welcome back.” Mack said, taking the oxygen mask off of Deke’s face when he woke up. You were still cleaning yourself up after the surgery and taking a minute to yourself, since it took you a while to patch him up.
“You are on a lot of drugs. But, hey, good news - you didn't die.” Piper cheered, looking down at Deke, who was clearly very high and unaware of most of his surroundings.
Deke smiled, prodding his bandage, “Thank you. You guys saved me.”
“Well, we're just glad you pulled through.” Mack replied.
“Is Y/N here? She's so pretty.” Deke mumbled, causing confused expressions to cross over Piper and Mack’s faces.
Mack coughed slightly, “What now?”
“I want to put my mouth on her mouth and move it around a lot. But I don't want to do that unless she wants to, too, 'cause that's what makes it nice.” Deke rambled, thinking about you. Piper chuckled to herself at Deke’s confession and Mack made a disgusted face as he had become like an older brother to you over the years and did not need to hear Deke go on about kissing you. “But I don’t know if she wants that, but like she could… we’ve been having these talks and she’s just so cool.”
“I mean, she's -- she's not my type, but I -- I get it.” Piper added, to Mack.
You had just woken up from a short nap and decided to check on Deke. When you got down to the medical area you saw Mack, Piper and Daisy talking by a sleeping Deke.
“Hey, guys. Everything good?” You asked, looking over at the monitors to check that everything was all good with Deke. The trio just nodded, trying to hide their chuckles that you most definitely noticed.
“Yeah, we’ve got to go check on something; can you stay here with him?” Mack asked. You nodded in response, pulling a chair up by his bed while they left but Mack stopped behind for a moment, “You may want to talk to him at some point about what he’s just told us about you.”
“What?” You asked, intrigued.
“Just saying.” Mack replied.
“Mack! Mack, what do you…”
Talk a little too much around you
Get a little self-conscious when I think about you
Get a little excited, baby, when I think about you
Yeah, when I think about you, babe
It had been a few days since Deke had woken up properly and you had been thinking a lot about what Mack had said to you but you had chickened out multiple times over asking Deke about it. Deke remembered everything he said to Mack while he was high and had been advised by Mack, Coulson, Piper and Daisy to talk to you about it but he had also chickened out until now.
You were taking a break in your room, trying not to think about everything with Ruby Hale and Werner Von Strucker and the Remorath. You’d been feeling a little anxious lately and it started getting worse so you were advised by Simmons to take a break.
“Knock, knock.” Deke said, while knocking on your door.
You moved from your current position of lying over your couch and sat normally before calling, “Come in.”
Deke opened the door and walked into your room before closing the door behind him and standing awkwardly by the door. “I just wanted to make sure you were okay. You seemed pretty skittish out there.”
You nodded, “I’m okay, just feeling a little worn out. Also someone put lemons on my bed and I haven’t figured out who or why.” You replied, Deke nodded and you decided to take a chance, “Hey, Mack said I should ask you about what you said while you were high, apparently you mentioned me.”
Deke froze, his heartbeat sped up and his hands started shaking. “What exactly did he say?” He asked, coming to sit down on the couch next to you.
“That’s it, just that I should ask you about it.” You explained.
“Okay, cool.” Deke mumbled, clearing his throat, “Well, I, uh… I said that I thought you were smart and cool and that you’re really pretty and I like you, and well… you don’t want all the gory details.” Deke confessed, looking anywhere but at you. You chuckled, a small grin appearing on your face as your cheeks burned red, “Is that a good laugh, or not?”
“It’s good, yeah. I like you too, spaceboy.” You said, your grin getting bigger. A smile appeared on Deke’s face as well as he put his hand on yours.
“The lemons were me by the way, I was so nervous to talk to you and it was supposed to be romantic but I guess it’s not a thing in this time.”
You chuckled again, “No, it’s not but it’s cute… you trying to be romantic.”

List 5 TV shows make you feel better, then tag 10 other blogs
I was tagged by @famousflowermagazine - thanks so much for the tag, and sorry it took me so long to get to this, lol.
1. The Good Place
Tumblr media
My ultimate feel-good show; the one I can and do come back to over and over when I’m feeling down in the dumps - and it never fails to cheer me up.
2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Tumblr media
Sometimes you just need to laugh, and nothing is funnier - or sweeter - than B99.
3. New Girl
Tumblr media
Awwwww, well, this show is basically the definition of a comfort show - F.R.I.E.N.D.S., but better.
4. Ab Fab
Tumblr media
Sometimes you need to laugh, sometimes you need to cry.... aaand sometimes you just need something truly dumb.
5. Agents of SHIELD
Tumblr media
Some of you may be wondering, but wait, why is AoS last on the list of five?? Shouldn’t it be first?? It is, after all, my favourite show in the world, and I make no secret of that.
But the thing is, much as I truly adore AoS... they really, really do torture their poor characters. This gif, for example, looks completely innocent and domestic at a moment’s glance, but in reality, this is moments before the main cast gets sucked up into a time-bending space rock and taken to a dystopian future where one of them is thought to have destroyed the world. Oh, and the nice guy on the right gets left behind. (Yeah... it’s better not to ask.)
With that said, I do have a list of feel-good episodes that I’ll come back to and watch over and over, ‘cause when all is said and done, this is my favourite show in the entire world, and it does make me happier than pretty much anything else, lol. So here goes:
1x01 - Pilot. The one that started it all, and the one that always gives me SUCH nostalgia because LOOK AT HOW SMALL THEY ALL WERE AHLFLSDHFLSDHFLSJF 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Actually that goes for pretty much the entire first half of season 1 alskfdjadlkfjlkdsjfksf 😍😍😍
Okay I know I said an episode list but... most of season 2. It’s my favourite season because it’s already so damn good, plus there’s not AS much trauma yet I mean there’s a lot but whooo baby wait for season 4, plus Huntingbird, plus DAISY, plus general The Team Being A Family which I LOVE and can never get enough of.
Special props to The Scene in 2x10, which I have saved onto its own YouTube playlist for sheer awesomeness.
3x08, Many Heads, One Tale. This is just such a COOL episode, and I personally love it because (a) STATICQUAKE BEING PLAYFUL AND FLIRTY!! (b) HUNTER AND BOBBI BEING SARCASTIC AND HILARIOUS ON MISSIONS and, of course, the FITZSIMMONS KISS!!!!!!!
3x11, Bouncing Back. Tied with Rewind, this is probably my single favourite episode - because all the best characters are there, being badass and hilarious together, and there’s not too much pain. Plus, literally ALL my favourite couples end it on a good place - Fitzsimmons start over and do an adorable fist bump, Coulson and May share a drink, Staticquake kiss and flirt and Mackelena flirt (and are teased by Daisy and Joey.) Basically it’s just the BEST and probably the episode I’ve rewatched the most, lol.
Season 4 is awesome but basically just angst, so no feel-good rewatch moments there, lol. Except maybe Daisy quaking AIDA out of the window. That NEVER gets old, ahahaha.
5x05, Rewind. Oh, this episode is SUCH a fan favourite, but with such good reason!! H U N T E R, everyone. Fitz and Hunter. Enough said.
5x06, Fun & Games. Well, okay, it wasn’t exactly fun and games, but it had Daisy being badass and a Fitzsimmons proposal and that’s honestly all anyone could ask for.
5x12, The Real Deal. Come on, this episode is the BEST. I mean, yes, it’s truly heartbreaking when everyone finds out about Coulson, but the WEDDING makes up for it every. single. time. The WEDDING, you guys. I have never been able to watch it without getting teary-eyed.
6x03, Fear And Loathing On The Planet Of Kitson. You can say a lot about Season 6, but Ladies Night will never not be the best (and funniest) ten minutes ever.
6x06, Inescapable. Another fan-favourite, but, honestly, another one that deserves every second of that status. Aside from the sheer hilarity of it (Fitzsimmons screaming their issues at each other at the tops of their voices, anyone?) it’s also surprisingly tender, and Fitz’s “what the bloody hell does that --” at the end never fails to crack me up.
7x01, The New Deal. Ah, man, this episode was such a journey in nostalgia!! Plus, the CLOTHES. It’s worth it just for the clothes, honestly.
7x07, The Totally Excellent Adventures of Mack and the D. I didn’t actually think I’d be putting this one on here, but upon consideration... it’s such a lovely, light-hearted and hilarious one despite how serious their situation actually is. Furthermore, this is the episode that proved beyond any shred of doubt that Deke Shaw is the absolute sweetest. Also, he can sing. Like, damn.
7x13, What We’re Fighting For. I have rewatched this thing at least three times now and I tear up every. single. time. I literally cannot think of any characters who deserve this happy ending more!!
mutuals, let me know if I’ve forgotten any significant ones because there’s a high chance I have, my brother is currently jabbing me in the back with a whiteboard marker and I want to murder him
...Oh, gosh, this somehow turned into me raving about AoS.... Is anyone even surprised, though??? 🤣🤣🤣🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
But enough, now for the tagging. The actual point of this. Ahem.
@ohwriteiforgot, @aleksandrachaev, @everythingirl44, @que-mint-tea, @a-biochemist-not-a-bird, @agentsofcomedyandchaos (if you’re feeling better, Julia 💜), @eowima, @maybebrilliant, @besidemethewholedamntime and @springmagpies, if any of you guys want to do this! (and hopefully not get as out of control as me, lmao)

One-Shot
Deke Shaw x Female Reader
Word Count: 4,356
Spoilers: None. Unless you haven’t seen AOS at all then yes?
Warnings: References the main MCU story, references earlier seasons of AOS, small references that mean nothing but I added because I can. Slight angst (not enough to tag in my opinion), happy ending. Simple, cute, funny (maybe, probably none of these tbh). Used personal experience with talking to people. Went on much longer than planned. Cross posted here, was a request over there!
Tumblr media
Deke paced back and forth in his room within the Lighthouse. “Stupid!” He scolded himself. He got chastised for trying to protect Daisy when he was told not to. But had he not, Daisy would have been in critical condition and that’s how Deke looks at it. It seems, yet again, Deke is the only one who sees it that way. Daisy didn’t want the help; May didn’t want to get involved in another clean up because of Deke, Yo-Yo didn’t want to be pulled away from her end of the mission. He put them all in more danger than they already were in, he thought, (Y/N) got hurt because of his failure to listen to direct orders – she was the only casualty. “I always do this!” He continued beating himself up for doing what he thought was the right thing to do. He just couldn’t get the hang of the way things worked here with this team.
They worked together and listened to the orders they were given… most of the time. Apparently, Daisy had a hard time listening at some point and makes some iffy calls. On the other end, (Y/N)’s first mission in S.H.I.E.L.D ended up being one of the most successful in S.H.I.E.L.D history because she didn’t think her orders were justified and took charge of the team she was assigned to and did what she does best. Succeed.
He stopped beating himself up and thinking about how the others disobey orders better than he does only when there was a light knocking on his door. He wasn’t expecting anyone to need him or want him for any reason this late in the evening.
“Deke, can I come in?” She was leaning against the door, not wanting to be loud in case anyone on this team was around to question her motives. They had questioned her and interrogated her when she arrived, she came directly from her undercover position at H.Y.D.R.A. She went in under Director Fury, learned about the origin of the Winter Soldier program, the origin of Deathlok, about Daniel Whitehall (formerly Werner Reinhardt), and much more.
Deke slowly opened the door, just enough to see her and for her to see him. He leaned on the doorframe, awkwardly. “What are you doing?” He asked, almost rudely, as if he didn’t want to speak to her. But he was curious as to why she was at his door when her own wasn’t too far from his. He kept his gaze on the cuts on her face. It was easier for him, easier than eye contact.
“I just want to talk to you.” Her voice was low and comforting. She looked tired and less beat up than earlier, and yet she was face to face with Deke, asking to come in instead of going to her own room to rest up.
Deke’s expression softened a little bit after listening to and studying her, he let her in. “What – what do you want to talk about?” He asked. He left the door open just a crack.
“I take it this isn’t your room in 2091, is it? I missed that little field trip, right?” She asked, avoiding what she came to talk about. She glanced around, there really wasn’t too much to look at. No one had much at the Lighthouse. Deke less so because he didn’t have anything with him when he traveled backward in time.
Deke nodded. “Decided not to move a whole closet when I can have a free room. Might be better anyway.” He sat on the bed and looked up at her. He clasped his hands together. He couldn’t figure her out. Not when she was in his present (technically now his past), not on missions, not now. She almost felt like a completely different person here.
She faced the door and closed it all the way. She felt awkward, coming to him at this time; she felt nervous, with a lot on her mind between what she heard him say and her original intention. Her forehead was against the cold door. “I heard you through the door. What’s going on?”
Deke rolled his eyes and looked away from her, great. He took a deep breath. “Does it matter?” He asked, trying to be rude enough to make her leave it alone.
She turned to face him, pressing her back against the cold door. “I think it does. Is it about today? Because everyone is fine, no one is dying or dead. It’s really… nothing.” She rolled up her sweatshirt sleeve to show him her arm. Earlier it was bloodier and not wrapped up, the blood is just barely seeping through the bandages. She had a few scratches across her face, nothing to be worried about. Her torso is roughly the same as her arm. Nothing she couldn’t walk off – it was her superpower. She always gets back up; she doesn’t know when it is time to rest. She could go all day if they let her.
He looked at her arm. Bandages. Even on her face. Smaller bandages. “It could have been worse.” He told her, still angry with himself for allowing anything like this to happen to the team. To her. To her?
“Yeah, it always can be. I signed up for this life on my own accord. I knew the risks going in; you are going to make sacrifices and lose people you have worked with and trusted.” She pushed herself off the door and walked towards the bed in one smooth motion. “You are going to do things that you don’t think are right and you are going to disobey orders and be right.” She sat next to him. She looked at the door, twiddling her thumbs, thinking back to her own experiences.
Deke looked at her hands, not sure if this has a nervous habit of hers. “Sounds… like a terrible decision to make on your own.”
She looked down at her hands. “It wasn’t always like this. I had a good time back at the Triskelion and infiltrating H.Y.D.R.A and making friends with Earths Mightiest Heroes and learning much more than I ever wished to know about S.H.I.E.L.D and H.Y.D.R.A.” She glanced at Deke, noting his sympathetic look. “I didn’t come here to give a dramatic sob story. I came here for you.” She bounced back. She fixed her posture and no longer looked upset or nervous. He needed her more than she needed him.
Deke gaped at her and noticed how quickly she changed emotions, wondering how she was able to do that. “Be honest with me, then.” He said, staring at her. Honesty seems like something she is capable of.
“I can do that.” She brought her legs onto his bed and sat crisscross, facing him. At any moment, she could lean back and fall to the floor. “Personal honesty is my forte.”
“I don’t belong here, do I?” He asked. There was no other way for him to ask. He was a man out of time. 2091 is where he belongs, destroyed Earth or not.
She scanned his face, seeing as he was serious, she looked at her hands then up at him. “In terms of time period, no, you don’t belong. But you’re not the only man out of time that I know. I think being from a different time is cool, honestly. Not that I want to learn more about what happens in the future, but I get to learn how you act and talk in the future and how different it is from now. Just like my friends from the past. In terms of with this team, please, there’s no better addition than you. You’re the perfect combination of good ideas and humor.” She pulled her sleeve back down and played with the loose threads. “Why do you ask?”
“I messed up pretty bad today, and it was not the first time I have messed up since being here. I put us in more danger than we ask for. I put us in more danger than the people we are fighting do.” He began. He wanted to raise his voice and yell all of this at her. “I could have gotten hurt, you could have been much worse than you are, Daisy could have been hurt.” He looked at the door. He wanted to walk away from this way of thinking or this conversation. He looked at her, realizing he just wanted to be listened to. “Because of me that guy got away from Daisy and we may not find him.” Always back to Daisy.
“That guy,” (Y/N) laughed, she didn’t care for the man, his name, or his story. She just found the lack of a name hilarious; it takes away from the seriousness.
“Yeah, you know. The guy.” Deke looked away from her. “To top it off Fitz thinks I’m a complete idiot. Well, sorry for the difference in time period and how things are done here! I didn’t ask to be brought to the 21st century. I thought I was going to die. That was my sacrifice! The first thing I did here was get arrested.” Deke said. He was beginning to raise his voice, some things hit harder than others “How was I even supposed to know I would end up here? How was I supposed to find you guys? Oh, and I never asked for this life. I didn’t choose this life like you did.”
“We were lucky to have found you because you got arrested.” (Y/N) said. She looked him in the eyes, her way of letting him know her words meant something.
He looked at her, taken aback. “Lucky?” He was almost disgusted with her usage of that word in this context. “There is nothing lucky about – “
“I, personally, call it lucky.” She stopped playing with the loose threads on her sleeve.
“You call it lucky to have a screw up like myself on the team?” He said, truly disgusted now. Lucky.
She raised her eyebrows, shocked and angry with his word choice. She kept her feelings to herself as she spoke. “You are not a screw up. No one has told you that either. We are lucky to have another genius on the team. We are lucky to have you on the team, just as we are lucky to have this team… this family.” She refrained from reaching out to him. She kept her hands in her lap and her gaze on him.
Deke saw her reaction, taking it in and partially realizing why she reacted the way she did. “You’re… not just saying that.” He noticed how her tone changed. “Thank you. For being honest, I mean.”
“Don’t thank me for something like that. It should be something normal, but it isn’t. I’m just a few doors down if you ever need to talk and I don’t come to you first.” She slowly loosened up. “We’ve all felt down about ourselves before and sometimes still do. Before you even consider saying it, no this does not burden me, you never will be a burden. I’ve been there, I’ve heard it before.” She grabbed his hands. Her hands were clammy. Deke didn’t seem to mind.
“This isn’t what you came to talk to me about, was it?” Deke looked down at his hands, now in hers. He rather liked the feeling of his hands in hers. They fit.
She shook her head. “Not even close, but it can wait for now. Sometimes, something else is a little more important…” Her voice trailed off. She kept her eyes on him, seemingly forgetting she was holding his hands.
“So, what did you want to talk about?” Deke asked. He flinched after she stiffened up. “That bad?”
She shook her head. “Not bad, just out of my comfort zone.” She smiled, swallowing all of her unnecessary fears. “If I’m being honest, Deke, all of my confidence goes into things that require that of me. Y’know, being a field agent, interrogations, being a hostage for whatever reason that time, being there for someone, and anything else that demands I do anything but break down or show the not so tough and confident me. When I do something like this, which is almost never, it never really goes my way.”
“What are you saying?” He thought to take his hands away from hers. He almost did. She wasn’t moving her hands away; did she even know she was still holding his hands? He wasn’t too sure where she was going with this, but he had an idea.
She shrugged. “Hopefully nothing stupid.”
“Oh, come on, nothing you say is stupid.” Deke put a hand on her shoulder. “That brain of yours is filled with a lot of information.” He has seen her brain at work. She has done what he deems nearly impossible. Fixed a quinjet in midair, fixed nearly everything on the go, assisted Fitz with anything in her area of expertise. He believes there is more to her brain then he has seen.
Her hand felt cold when he removed his from her grasp. “I wouldn’t say that so confidently. Sometimes I think there is no brain up here – jeez, okay, this is off topic.” She laughed.
Deke laughed with her.
“I have something for you.” She pulled her hands away from his and reached behind her into a small backpack Deke didn’t even know she had with her. She carries it around with her through the Lighthouse for reasons such as tonight.
Deke tried to look over her shoulder to see what she was grabbing, the bag hung too low for him to see. “What are you reaching for?” He asked.
He got his answer when she held out a lemon. “Originally, I was going to leave it on your bed, but my plans never work out. I get yanked every which way and never get the chance to pull this off. Kind of disappointing. Hopefully the point still gets across.” She smiled.
Deke looked at the lemon in her hand for a moment, putting the pieces together. All the times she stood up for him, protected him by choice, talked to him over the rest of the team, the subtle gestures, even the look in her eyes that he has never noticed before. “I thought Coulson and Mack just let me think you guys did this to make fun of me.” He finally said.
(Y/N) nodded, smiling and holding in a laugh. “Very much so.”
Deke took the lemon from her. “You weren’t in the room when we talked about it, so how did you know?”
“They told me while laughing. I saw it as an opportunity that ended up not working in my favor but instead took a wildly different turn as you can see.” She said in one breath. “I should really breathe while talking. Heh, I’ve come to realize I could have just used my words. I made it complicated.”
“No, no. That is actually really… wow…” Deke slowly smiled. He was chasing the wrong girl and he knew it the whole time. He just never thought the right one would be so… right in front of him. “Would now be a bad time to celebrate?”
(Y/N) shook her head. “There is never a bad time to celebrate anything.”
“In that case…” Deke got up from his bed and put the lemon on the nightstand next to it. “I am going to celebrate.”
She watched him. “I’m afraid of your definition of celebrate.”
“Quick question,” Deke said. “You’re serious about this?”
She nodded, growing more concerned. She leaned back, scaring herself as she almost fell.
Deke took that as an opportunity to wrap his arms around her and pull her up. She didn’t know how to react, she just dangled in his arms, concerned for him. Although, she didn’t really mind being in someone’s arms for the first time in a long time. She forgot how nice it was to be held, to feel this kind of warmth.
“I never thought I would ever say this in my life, but I would like to be on the ground, Deke.” She said. She kicked her feet against his legs. The ground, usually not her friend, The Bus, The Boat, and a quinjet however…
Deke set her down. “There, there.” He stepped back; arms slightly stretched out, ready to grab her again for any reason. “This is great… this is wow…” He said.
She held her arms up, palms facing him. “Nice save. I wasn’t in the mood to fall, good thing you were here.” Her head was titled to the side, keeping her eyes on him. He was unpredictable in a good way.
“You’re not going to fall again, are you?” He was still ready to grab her if he needed to. He wanted to laugh at the incident, it was funny, but he couldn’t yet. The fear in her eyes when she startled herself was gone, but his wasn’t. This was relatively new to him. He wasn’t sure when to let his guard down, even if incidents are their own fault.
She shook her head. Happy. “Not like that. Though, I wouldn’t mind falling for you again.” She said it without thinking. She was good at this, but only once in a while could she be that smooth.
He was dense just a few minutes ago, he didn’t even piece it together fully. He took a moment to take in what had happened to him. One of the smartest agents he had the pleasure of meeting wanted to talk to him. She willingly listened to him vent about everything he could blurt out. She listened to him. She offered minimal advice because she knew he just wanted to be heard. She could read people, or maybe just him. She didn’t understand but she had an idea of how he felt because she had friends like him. She accepted this one thing she knew about that they did in his time and tried to use it to her advantage only to fail and make light of it. She made light of his situation. She made light of him. His problems practically melted away because of her. She just said she wouldn’t mind falling for him again. Now the burning question is why.
He grabbed her by the shoulders. “I’m going to celebrate!” He let go, nearly pushing her down and burst out of his room to go tell everyone he could. Everyone in his way became victim to his celebration.
(Y/N) ran out of his room and stood in the middle of the hallway and watched him until he was no longer in her line of sight. She laughed. “So, that’s his definition of celebrate apparently. I would’ve liked to have… I don’t know… dessert, alcohol, a nice chat?”
“What did you do?” May walked up behind (Y/N) and looked at her. They could hear Deke in the distance, meaning he didn’t get very far yet, he was actively searching for the team, not just any S.H.I.E.L.D agents.
(Y/N) looked back at her. “Hopefully made the best decision ever.”
“You say hopefully a lot.” May told her.
“I said luck a lot to Deke today. I know a few words.” She joked. “My vocabulary is pretty large if you ask me.” She kept smiling. She couldn’t stop.
“So, what exactly is all this about?” May asked, referring to Deke.
(Y/N) scratched the back of her neck, nervously, she couldn’t really explain Deke’s behavior, but she could. She wasn’t a Deke expert. “He’ll be back eventually. I’m pretty sure I’m his girlfriend now. He has to come back eventually; I mean his room is also right there.” She pointed to Deke’s room with the door still wide open.
May raised an eyebrow. “I thought you would never date again.”
(Y/N) looked down, thinking about the reasons why she said such a thing. She shook her head, as she would call it, shaking her head like an Etch-A-Sketch. Get rid of those negative thoughts and restart. “He… convinced me.” She looked back up, seeing Deke make his way towards her and May, he wasn’t gone long at all, he couldn’t have run out of people to bother. “It’s been cold for too long. I’ve forgotten what warmth is.”
May gave her a slight nod, understanding. She was pleased that (Y/N) may have found what she was looking for. “There’s beer in the fridge, I know that’s what you like.” She let her know before she walked back to where she was initially heading.
Deke hugged (Y/N) again, this time allowing her to hug back. “This is nice.”
“It is indeed nice to be able to hug back, the best hugs anyone has to offer.” She hugged him back. “I take it you didn’t find the one friend you wanted to tell.”
Tumblr media
(Y/N) sat on the arm of the couch, eating some blueberries. “So… none of you, not a single person in this room right now, saw this coming?” She looked at them, almost disappointed in everyone, excluding May, she was told.
The team scattered across the room gave echoed No’s. Some members even shook their heads. Coulson and Mack were grouped directly across from (Y/N) and Deke. FitzSimmons were off to the side, together. Yo-Yo, Daisy, and May were close by, just not in (Y/N)’s line of sight.
“Nice.” She continued eating, she looked down trying to hide her smile and stifle a laugh. She thought it was obvious, perhaps what is obvious in her eyes is not obvious to anyone else… unless they are lying to her for fun. This family enjoys their fun every now and then. She stiffened slightly when Deke’s arms fell around her waist. After realizing it was just him, she relaxed. “Is the world falling apart today?” She asked Coulson.
Coulson smiled at her. “Not yet, but I will let you know when that happens.” He said. He knows she enjoys missions, the adrenaline, the thrill. She just doesn’t stop, and she never will.
Deke looked up at her. “You can’t go with injuries like that!” He protested, rightfully so too. “There are a lot of risks.” He could list them all.
“Oh yeah? Name one.” She dared him, putting him on the spot.
“Bleeding.” He said, immediately feeling stupid. Though he was right, that was not the answer she was looking for.
Her sigh turned into a chuckle. “That’s – I set that bar too low on that one.” She got up to grab her drink that she left too far away from her.
Deke looked around, maybe she was right, he did belong here. He turned his attention to her, she was barely ready for the day, already eating after having breakfast not too long ago, nodding along to a song playing in her head. How has he not seen this version of her before? Maybe he just didn’t see it until he needed to. He smiled at her as she walked back, drink and her blueberries in hand. Mouthing the words to the song in her head. She wasn’t the S.H.I.E.L.D agent she thought she was, she was human. The most normal part of Deke’s life at the moment…
“What are you smiling at?” She asked, sitting back up on the arm of the couch.
“I’m going to hope the correct answer is you.” He said, putting his arm back around her. He wasn’t sure if she would ever stop tensing up at his touch, it was something he could bear for now.
She shrugged her shoulders. “Anything would’ve been an acceptable answer. I still smile about the time I almost got hit by a punching bag that Cap’ punched so hard it broke and flew off the chain.”
“Cap’?” Deke asked, not sure who that was. He’d rather not question why she was fond of that memory; it could be funny to her now for all he knows.
“Friend from the past, the first man out of time. Nice guy, or at least he was. I don’t have the full story.” She leaned back. “He hasn’t contacted me since… I want to say 2014. He was on the news, which is the only reason I know he’s still alive. Apparently, my old friends are having issues and I am glad I’m not there.”
“Didn’t they split up like The Beatles?” Coulson asked. He tuned in when he heard her mention Steve.
She nodded. “Exactly like The Beatles!”
Deke looked between Coulson and (Y/N), not understanding the reference they are making. “I don’t get it.”
(Y/N) leaned against Deke. “Don’t worry about it right now. You’ll be up to speed eventually. There’s just so much to unpack there.” She rested her head on his. “Blueberry?” She held them in front of his face and offered.
He took a few and popped them in his mouth. “I thought you didn’t like blueberries.”
“The outside? Indigo. You peel it? Green. Smush them? Purple. Blueberries are my mortal enemy.” She declared, eating them as she spoke. “The texture is weird too.”
Deke nodded slightly, agreeing. “Yeah, they are weird.” He paused. “Hey, I was wondering if you could help me test something later. It’s not really something you would normally work with, but I think you’re the right person for the job.” He did have something minuscule in the works, it was just barely in the testing phase. The only good news for him was the amount of accessible resources and the amount of brains he could pick at.
“Sounds like a plan, just as long as it does not explode in my face. I speak from experience.” She said. She subconsciously rubbed her eyebrow. She wouldn’t mind stepping out of her comfort zone for him. Working on something different might turn out to be fun and a lot safer with him than most other people she has worked with.
“That won’t happen.” Deke assured her. He couldn’t tell if she believed him or not. He meant what he said regardless.

“So, um, hi. It’s me. This is attempt seventy-three at getting this stupid thing to work, blah blah blah, etcetera. I, uh… miss you, wish you were here, all the usual stuff. Love you.”
“Maybe you should, perhaps, at least consider giving up? This is, as you said, the seventy-third attempt at a successful communication, and since it is taking up a considerable portion of your time-”
“No. No way. I’m not gonna give up now. I mean, you helped me build it! You’re seriously gonna let all that hard work go to waste?”
“That was not what I was implying. You could, instead, view the problem from a different angle.”
“Which angle, Enoch?! You think I haven’t done that already?! This stupid machine already has too many damn angles!”
“If you are counting the inner components then there are approximately-”
“Yeah, didn’t mean that literally buddy. But I guess you’re right. Like normal. Ugh... I kinda wish I’d properly thought about this before I- wait, did you hear that?”
“Hear what exactly?”
“D- there! That beeping noise. You heard that, right? I’m not just going insane?”
“I have noticed that you display multiple symptoms of psy-”
“Hold on, it’s still online!”
“Oh. It is.”
“It- It’s transmitting fine, recording smoothly, sound quality’s decent so remind me to fix that but… it’s working. It’s actually working!”
“Well done. But I do have to warn you that this technology should not exist on Earth in this time period.”
“Yeah yeah, whatever. Right, Enoch, I’m gonna need you to get out of here. This beautiful thing is finally working and I kinda wanna use it before it blows up or something.”
“Of course.”
“Uh… in private? Alone?”
“Oh, I understand. You wish to record your message alone. Without me. In that case, I will take your leave, Director Shaw.”
“See you, buddy. Right. Now I just gotta press thi-”

“Um… I… *ahem* This is a message for Leopold Fitz and Jemma Simmons. It’s a for-their-ears-only sort of thing, so if you’re not either of them then… uh… stop listening? No! Actually, if you’re not Leopold Fitz or Jemma Simmons, make sure this message gets to them. Please.”
“...I’m guessing this is Fitz or Simmons listening now. Hopefully both. Well, uh… it’s me! It’s Deke! I can’t believe I finally got this thing to work, haha. Uh… yeah.”
“So… you’re probably wondering what’s going on over here. SHIELD got blown up and- oh yeah, you guys were here for that. Or Nana was I think. It’s been a few years, I can’t remember exactly. Gotta adapt, y’know?”
“Speaking of! The second you guys left I might’ve accidentally become director of SHIELD. Which wasn’t my fault! I was nominated! Besides, I don’t know what was supposed to happen so…”
“Right, how am I sending this message. Funny story, actually. A few months after you guys left, Enoch turned up at my mansion and casually asked if he could murder me. Not our Enoch, by the way, this timeline’s Enoch. And he only wanted to kill me because he said I was this huge anomaly in the fabric of the universe and I could potentially doom humanity by just being here. Which sounds kind of dramatic, but nothing’s happened so far so I’m guessing we’re in the clear.”
“Basically, I managed to convince him that I was a good guy. I told him everything that happened and showed him my scars and everything to get him to believe me. And he did… eventually. He even helped me to build this quantum processor. Since this side is working now, I’m guessing it’ll work on the other end too. I’ve set it up to be like a mailbox that picks up anything that’s sent from the other end, so you won’t have to do the DNA-gene-splitting thing that I had to do to make sure it found you. You’re welcome.”
“It’s only audio for now. The 80s are great, but the technology sucks. And if we wanted to record video then I wouldn’t be able to buy supplies without getting asked about it. Equipment is expensive. Who knew. I’ll try and figure out at least how to send an image because I bet you’re missing my beautiful face.”
“That was the other thing: I miss you guys. It’s strange… I’ve spent most of my life on the Lighthouse and I knew a whole bunch of people there. Then when I came with you guys, sure it felt weird with them not being there, but I never really missed them. Probably because they came from that place.”
“But I miss you every day. Literally, every single day. And I love you. People look up to me here, but I don’t exactly have any family. I’ve got the Deke Squad, I guess, but they’re a different type of family. Not like you two.”
“So um, please send something back whenever you get this. I’ve set it so whenever you send something back, it’ll arrive here straight after I send the message you last listened to. I feel like I’m a time travel master now.”
“So I guess I’ll just… wait here. For your reply. Or just any sort of confirmation that you got this message. I’ll try and send you both a message at least once a week but it’d be great to get something back. I’m looking forward to hearing your voices.”

“Hey Nana and Bobo, it’s me again. Here’s the thing- it’s been a month. It’s been a whole month which is making me think that it’s something on my end. I’ll try and find the problem and fix it since I’d hate for your messages to get lost in that weird void between me and you.”
“But, if I’m gonna be honest, I realised that I don’t actually have any way of knowing if you guys made it back or not. Heck, I don’t even know if you managed to stop the chronicoms. And since I thought of that, I really can’t stop thinking about it, and it would really help if you could just let me know. Doesn’t have to be a whole message, just a yes or a no would do. You could even shout at me and I’d celebrate.”
“Seriously, if you’re all dead then… then I’m the only one alive. Again. I know I’m like 40 years behind you anyway, but it feels like the Lighthouse all over again! I got brought back from that and I felt like I’d cheated the system. Like- Like I didn’t belong, and I got out fine while everyone else stayed there and still had to suffer whatever’s going on up there. And this time I cheated because I’m the one who offered to stay behind and so I’m alive again while you’re all dead. I should’ve let Sousa do it, at least then I could’ve died with you.”
“No, no. You might be alive. You’re probably alive. I’m the one who’s… just send me something back. Please.”

“Nana, you won’t believe who invited me to a party! Pegs did! She was like, hey, I need you to be a distraction, you’re coming with me. Which is awesome because it’s like the first time she didn’t insult me in a sentence! Yeah… out loud that sounds kinda sad. But it means a lot to me, and I’m pretty sure you were a fan of Pegs or something? Yeah, I’m pretty sure.”
“Anyway, so, we went to this party and she said that since SHIELD is safe enough to be publicly known again I’d need to meet some guy that would help with finances. So we’re at this party, and Pegs takes me up to meet the guy. I promise, all I did was introduce myself (I was actually trying really hard to be serious and polite) and I asked his name and Peggy lost it. She literally almost fell onto the floor, she was laughing that hard. Yup, you heard me right. Peggy Carter. Laughing.”
“The guy, Harry I think his name was? No, Howard. Yeah, Howard was his name. So this Howard guy looks super offended and asked me if I knew who he was, and I said no because I honestly didn’t, and then Pegs offered to buy me a drink. I know! And she didn’t even yell at me for calling her Pegs!”
“So yeah, that happened. Since then she’s been smiling at me? I don’t know what I did, so I thought I’d throw it to you two to see if you had any ideas. You can boast to your friends that your grandson charmed over the great Peggy Carter.”

“Hey Bobo, hey Nana. I’m kinda tired so I’ll keep it short today. The Deke Squad got an award today. It’s funny, I was so busy with SHIELD that I’d forgotten that we had that many fans.”
“Having a double life sounds fun, but trust me it’s hard. Ha.”

“Since we won that award, every night I’ve been having visions of Bobo shouting my head off that all I do is steal stuff. So since I’ve been messing with music for so many years, I figured, how hard can it be?”
“...It’s very hard. But! It’s completed, and it feels good that I can at least announce that to someone. Even if those someones can’t answer me back. But that’s fine.”
“The song’s called Alya, and it’s all about family. That was my Mom’s name, by the way. Alya. I can’t remember if I ever told you that.”
“If you want songs about you, then you’ll have to let me know, okay? Cool.”

“Ever since they made me director of SHIELD, I feel like I’ve been faking my way through it. I faked my way through the Lighthouse, I faked my way into money and fame, I faked music for a fake band and I faked knowing how to be a director. I’m just… God, I’m just not cut out for it. People are dying and I can’t stop it. SHIELD needs an actual leader, not a fraud like me.”
“Peggy does a lot, but she’s got her own responsibilities to manage so I get the brunt of it. There’s a few super clever agents that can easily take my place.”
“See, I don’t wanna be director anymore. But if I’m not… I don’t know what I’d do with myself. I don’t have anyone here, I don’t belong here, and I- I’m just nothing when you strip away my lies. And I wish that was an exaggeration.”
“And you know the worst part of it all?! I don’t know whether you guys are even alive! I send you these messages every week and I put my heart and soul into them and they could be just disappearing into nothingness! Then there really is nothing!”
“So… just in case you are listening, I love you. You did so much for me, you gave me a chance when nobody else would. It’s odd saying goodbye to thin air, but hey ho. And if you’re dead, then I guess I’ll see you soo- WOAH!”
“DEKE SHAW YOU LOOK AT ME THIS INSTANT!”
“Hey- Hey, Pegs! What are you doing here?! G-Get out, this is private, this is my house what are you-”
“Shut your idiotic mouth and hand me that gun.”
“Peggy, I-”
“Hand it over, Deke. Now.”
“Fine, here. But listen-”
“No buts, Shaw. Are you out of your mind? What were you thinking?!”
“Director Shaw.”
“Enoch, not you too!”
“Oh. It appears we were just in time.”
“You’re bloody right we were. Thank you, Enoch. You made the right decision coming to find me. Now Deke, you need to talk to me, alright? Whatever’s on your mind. You trust me, don’t y- wait... what is that?”

Excuse me while I get a little bit sappy. I’m probably going to dip out of tumblr for most of today - the episode airs during the afternoon over here and I need to be semi functional for the rest of the day, so I’ll watch it tonight and I want to avoid spoilers, but I just want to talk about Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD for a moment.
I didn’t watch SHIELD in the conventional way, but I’ve been a fan since almost the beginning. I was I think thirteen when I first discovered the show. Just recently moved to a new city, figuring things out, trying to make friends. It was a Sunday evening, I believe, when I walked into the living room to find Mum and Dad watching a tv show - and hey, I think I recognize that guy, wasn’t he from Avengers?
It was season 1 episode 10 the Bridge. I know because I distinctly remember the explosion and thinking ‘oh did Coulson die’ and commenting that Ward’s ded cos he got shot at (My parents informed me that he couldn’t be because he was one of the main characters.)
My brother and I joined in watching. I can’t remember exactly what had happened - I’m pretty sure Mum and Dad had seen it before, because we weren’t allowed to watch the episode with Lorelei in it since it was ‘’’unsuitable.’’’ I distinctly remember the moment I was in hook line and sinker (and possibly when I started shipping Fitzsimmons, my first OTP) - episode 13 T.R.A.C.K.S. The way it was done with all the cutting and flashbacks and mystery was AMAZING (it’s still my favourite season 1 episode I think), the Stan Lee cameo and then Skye getting shot at the end solidified to me that hey, I’m attached to these characters!
And then episode 17 rolled around and SHIELD shaped who I became. My own stories were influenced by it - a lot of the stories from when I was 14/15 and ‘’’edgy’’’ featured characters being spies, undercover, betraying the team, and looking back on it, those these were greatly inspired by Ward’s betrayal!
And then season 1 ended. I missed the show, and when on with my life. Until, I discovered a little later that season 2 had started. And my parents had been watching it. Without me.
Naturally, I was disappointed, but being the completionist i was, didn’t want to jump in halfway through the season. Plus, I thought it may be unsuitable and my parents didn’t want me to watch it.
For the next few years, I never forgot about SHIELD. I was always a fan, even though I had only really seen half a season. I would occasionally wonder if Fitz ever recovered. If Ward ever got the redemption arc I wanted him to (spoilers, he Did Not). Skye was apparently now called Daisy, and that was weird.
Then, around my 17th birthday I realized something. Season 5 was coming out soon, and apparently that was going to be the last season. And I was old enough now to have my own laptop, plus I’d watched a number of other shows.
So I binged. I sat down and rewatched season 1, relived those moments. I watched season 2 - realized Ward wasn’t going to get a redemption arch, cried when Tripp died, got angry at Simmons and watched Skye meet her parents and gain powers.
I watched season 3, screamed when Fitzsimmons kissed finally, cried again when Bobbi and Hunter left (I remember wandering downstairs in that foggy ‘a tv show made me SAD’ state and telling Mum which part I had just reached - turns out she didn’t remember much of season 3). (Frankly neither do I it’s been like 3 years since I watched it)
Then came season 4, which is still my favourite season. LMDs, Fitzsimmons angst (i mean, that’s every season though right), the Framework, Ghost Rider. The Framework is still VERY CLEARLY in my mind, even though it’s been years since I watched it.
I finished just before season 5 started, and I watched season 5 with my parents. There were many discussions of time travel while renovating my room, a few in depth conversations about paradoxes and Fitzsimmons children and how it all worked. I remember watching the last few episodes with DEEP CONCERN because I had seen Infinity War but my parents hadn’t.
Season 5 ended and I finished highschool. I moved out, and when season 6 aired, my parents didn’t end up watching it because it didn’t air in New Zealand and I found it online (they still haven’t watched it. Hurry up and put it on Disney+ pls)
I grew up with SHIELD, even though I didn’t watch it while it aired the whole way through. These characters mean so much to me.
So thank you, Agents of SHIELD.
Thank you Clark Gregg, for Phil Coulson, for being the heart of the show, for bringing the family together.
Thank you Ming-Na Wen, for Melinda May, for showing strength and how to be a strong female character who has emotions and can and will still kick your ass.
Thank you Chloe Bennet, for Daisy Johnson, for growing up with me through the show and being the character who needs her family around her.
Thank you Elizabeth Henstridge, for Jemma Simmons, who shows that a character can make mistakes and grow from them, for compassion and protectiveness.
Thank you Iain De Caestecker, for Leopold Fitz, for giving me unrealistic standards for me, for showing me that mistakes don’t define you and the darkness in you isn’t who you are.
Thank you Brett Dalton, for Grant Ward, for the character we all love to hate, for a part of my childhood.
Thank you Henry Simmons, for Alphonso Mackenzie, for a character who holds onto his faith despite all the weird crap, who is strong and compassionate, who grew into a role he never expected to have.
Thank you Natalia Cordova-Buckley, for Elena Rodriguez, for teaching me to always bounce back.
Thank you Jeff Ward, for Deke Shaw, for a character I can see myself in - the outsider, who doesn’t exactly fit in but is part of the family nonetheless.
Thank you to the cast, the crew, the writers, the directors, the producers, everyone who has been involved in this show that shaped my childhood. It feels like my childhood is dying this year, all the tv shows I watched as a early teenager are finally coming to an end. Clone Wars, now Agents of SHIELD - truely, it feels like a part of my childhood is finally leaving.
I trust the writers to give us a proper send off. I trust the actors to deliver that send off beautifully.
I don’t know what to expect tonight, but it’s going to be a ride, and I’ve glad to have been along for it!

Its somewhat ironic that a movie about time travel can’t be reviewed properly until your future self rewatches the movie. It’s bold of Nolan to make such a thoroughly dense blockbuster. He assumes people will actually want to see ~Ördög a részletekben more than once so they can understand it properly, which some may not. This movie makes the chronology of Inception look as simplistic as tic-tac-toe. Ergo, it’s hard for me to give an accurate rating, without having seen it twice, as I’m still trying to figure out whether everything does indeed make sense. If it does, this movie is easily a 9 or 10. If it doesn’t, it’s a 6. It’s further not helped by the fact that the dialogue in the first 15 minutes of the movie is painfully hard to understand / hear. Either they were behind masks; they were practically mumbling; the sound effects were too loud; or all of the above. The exposition scenes are also waayyy too brief for something this complex — a problem also shared with Interstellar actually. (Interstellar had this minimalist exposition problem explaining Blight, where if you weren’t careful, you’d miss this one sentence / scene in the entire movie explaining that Blight was a viral bacteria: “Earth’s atmosphere is 80% nitrogen, we don’t even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives, our air gets less and less oxygen”). I guess it’s a Nolan quirk. Hopefully, a revision of the film audio sorts the sound mixing out. I do like the soundtrack, but it’s too loud initially. I liked all the actors. You think John Washington can’t act at first, but he can, and he grows on you as the film progresses. And Pattinson is his usual charming self. Elizabeth is a surprise treat. And so on. Its worth a watch either way. See it with subtitles if you can. And definitely don’t expect to fully understand whats going on the first time around. Its one hell of a complicated film. It will be very hard for an average viewer to gather all the information provided by this movie at the first watch. But the more you watch it, more hidden elements will come to light. And when you are able to put these hidden elements together. You will realize that this movie is just a “masterpiece” which takes the legacy of Christopher Nolan Forward If I talk about acting, Then I have to say that Robert Pattinson has really proved himself as a very good actor in these recent years. And I am sure his acting skills will increase with time. His performance is charming and very smooth. Whenever he is on the camera, he steals the focus John David Washington is also fantastic in this movie. His performance is electrifying, I hope to see more from him in the future. Other characters such as Kenneth Branagh, Elizabeth, Himesh Patel, Dimple Kapadia, Clémence Poésy have also done quite well. And I dont think there is a need to talk about Michael Caine Talking about Music, its awesome. I dont think you will miss Hans Zimmer’s score. Ludwig has done a sufficient job. There is no lack of good score in the movie Gotta love the editing and post production which has been put into this movie. I think its fair to say this Nolan film has focused more in its post production. The main problem in the movie is the sound mixing. Plot is already complex and some dialogues are very soft due to the high music score. It makes it harder to realize what is going on in the movie. Other Nolan movies had loud BGM too. But Audio and dialogues weren’t a problem My humble request to everyone is to please let the movie sink in your thoughts. Let your mind grasp all the elements of this movie. I am sure more people will find it better. Even those who think they got the plot. I can bet they are wrong. ~Ördög a részletekben is the long awaited new movie from Christopher Nolan. The movie that’s set to reboot the multiplexes post-Covid. It’s a manic, extremely loud, extremely baffling sci-fi cum spy rollercoaster that will please a lot of Nolan fan-boys but which left me with very mixed views. John David Washington (Denzel’s lad) plays “The Protagonist” — a crack-CIA field operative who is an unstoppable one-man army in the style of Hobbs or Shaw. Recruited into an even more shadowy organisation, he’s on the trail of an international arms dealer, Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh in full villain mode). Sator is bullying his estranged wife Kat (Elizabeth Debicki) over custody of their son (and the film unusually has a BBFC warning about “Domestic Abuse”). Our hero jets the world to try to prevent a very particular kind of Armageddon while also keeping the vulnerable and attractive Kat alive. This is cinema at its biggest and boldest. Nolan has taken a cinema ‘splurge’ gun, filled it with money, set it on rapid fire, removed the safety and let rip at the screen. Given that Nolan is famous for doing all of his ‘effects’ for real and ‘in camera’, some of what you see performed is almost unbelievable. You thought crashing a train through rush-hour traffic in “Inception” was crazy? You ain’t seen nothing yet with the airport scene! And for lovers of Chinooks (I must admit I am one and rush out of the house to see one if I hear it coming!) there is positively Chinook-p*rn on offer in the film’s ridiculously huge finale. The ‘inversion’ aspects of the story also lends itself to some fight scenes — one in particular in an airport ‘freeport’ — which are both bizarre to watch and, I imagine, technically extremely challenging to pull off. In this regard John David Washington is an acrobatic and talented stunt performer in his own right, and must have trained for months for this role. Nolan’s crew also certainly racked up their air miles pre-lockdown, since the locations range far and wide across the world. The locations encompassed Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and United States. Hoyte Van Hoytema’s cinematography is lush in introducing these, especially the beautiful Italian coast scenes. Although I did miss the David Arnold strings that would typically introduce these in a Bond movie: it felt like that was missing. The ‘timey-wimey’ aspects of the plot are also intriguing and very cleverly done. There are numerous points at which you think “Oh, that’s a sloppy continuity error” or “Shame the production design team missed that cracked wing mirror”. Then later in the movie, you get at least a dozen “Aha!” moments. Some of them (no spoilers) are jaw-droppingly spectacular. Perhaps the best twist is hidden in the final line of the movie. I only processed it on the way home. And so to the first of my significant gripes with ~Ördög a részletekben. The sound mix in the movie is all over the place. I’d go stronger than that… it’s truly awful (expletive deleted)! Nolan often implements Shakespeare’s trick of having characters in the play provide exposition of the plot to aid comprehension. But unfortunately, all of this exposition dialogue was largely incomprehensible. This was due to: the ear-splitting volume of the sound: 2020 movie audiences are going to be suffering from ‘~Ördög a részletekbenis’! (LOL); the dialogue is poorly mixed with the thumping music by Ludwig Göransson (Wot? No Hans Zimmer?); a large proportion of the dialogue was through masks of varying description (#covid-appropriate). Aaron Taylor-Johnson was particularly unintelligible to my ears. Overall, watching this with subtitles at a special showing might be advisable! OK, so I only have a PhD in Physics… but at times I was completely lost as to the intricacies of the plot. It made “Inception” look like “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”. There was an obvious ‘McGuffin’ in “Inception” — — (“These ‘dream levels’… how exactly are they architected??”…. “Don’t worry… they’ll never notice”. And we didn’t!) In “~Ördög a részletekben” there are McGuffins nested in McGuffins. So much of this is casually waved away as “future stuff… you’re not qualified” that it feels vaguely condescending to the audience. At one point Sator says to Kat “You don’t know what’s going on, do you?” and she shakes her head blankly. We’re right with you there luv! There are also gaps in the storyline that jar. The word “~Ördög a részletekben”? What does it mean. Is it just a password? I’m none the wiser. The manic pace of ~Ördög a részletekben and the constant din means that the movie gallops along like a series of disconnected (albeit brilliant) action set pieces. For me, it has none of the emotional heart of the Cobb’s marriage problems from “Inception” or the father/daughter separation of “Interstellar”. In fact, you barely care for anyone in the movie, perhaps with the exception of Kat. It’s a talented cast. As mentioned above, John David Washington is muscular and athletic in the role. It’s a big load for the actor to carry in such a tent-pole movie, given his only significant starring role before was in the excellent BlacKkKlansman. But he carries it off well. A worthy successor to Gerard Butler and Jason Statham for action roles in the next 10 years. This is also a great performance by Robert Pattinson, in his most high-profile film in a long time, playing the vaguely alcoholic and Carré-esque support guy. Pattinson’s Potter co-star Clemence Poésy also pops up — rather more un-glam that usual — as the scientist plot-expositor early in the movie. Nolan’s regular Michael Caine also pops up. although the 87-year old legend is starting to show his age: His speech was obviously affected at the time of filming (though nice try Mr Nolan in trying to disguise that with a mouth full of food!). But in my book, any amount of Caine in a movie is a plus. He also gets to deliver the best killer line in the film about snobbery! However, it’s Kenneth Branagh and Elizabeth Debicki that really stand out. They were both fabulous, especially when they were bouncing off each other in their marital battle royale. So, given this was my most anticipated movie of the year, it’s a bit of a curate’s egg for me. A mixture of being awe-struck at times and slightly disappointed at others. It’s a movie which needs a second watch, so I’m heading back today to give my ear drums another bashing! And this is one where I reserve the right to revisit my rating after that second watch… it’s not likely to go down… but it might go up. (For the full graphical review, check out One Mann’s Movies on t’interweb and Facebook. Thanks.) As this will be non-spoiler, I can’t say too much about the story. However, what I can is this: ~Ördög a részletekben’s story is quite dynamic in the sense that you won’t understand it till it wants you to. So, for the first half, your brain is fighting for hints and pieces to puzzle together the story. It isn’t until halfway through the movie that ~Ördög a részletekben invites you to the fantastic storytelling by Christopher Nolan. Acting is beyond phenomenal, and I’d be genuinely surprised if neither Robert Pattinson nor John David Washington doesn’t receive an Oscar nomination for best actor. It’s also hard not to mention how good Elizabeth Debicki and Aaron Johnson both are. All around, great acting, and the dialogue amps up the quality of the movie. The idea of this movie is damn fascinating, and while there are films that explore time-travelling, there’s never been anything quite like this. It has such a beautiful charm and for the most part, explains everything thoroughly. It feels so much more complex than any form of time-travelling we’ve seen, and no less could’ve been expected from Nolan. Oh my lord, the score for this film fits so perfectly. Every scene that’s meant to feel intense was amped by a hundred because of how good the score was. Let me just say though, none of them will be found iconic, but they fit the story and scenes so well. In the end, I walked out, feeling very satisfied. Nevertheless, I do have issues with the film that I cannot really express without spoiling bits of the story. There are definitely little inconsistencies that I found myself uncovering as the story progressed. However, I only had one issue that I found impacted my enjoyment. That issue was understanding some of the dialogue. No, not in the sense that the movie is too complicated, but more that it was hard to make out was being said at times. It felt like the movie required subtitles, but that probably was because, at a time in the film, there was far too much exposition. Nevertheless, I loved this film, I’ll be watching it at least two more times, and I think most of you in this group will enjoy it. I definitely suggest watching it in theatres if possible, just so you can get that excitement. (4/5) & (8.5/10) for those that care about number scores. At first, I want to ask Christopher Nolan one question, HOW THE HELL YOU DID THIS? Seriously I want to have an answer, How did he write such as this masterpiece! How did he get this complicated, fabulous and creative idea? What is going on in his mind? The story is written and directed perfectly, the narration style was absolutely unique. I have no idea how can anyone direct such as this story, that was a huge challenge, and as usual Nolan gave us a masterpiece that we’ll put beside (Memento), (Inception) and (Interstellar) The movie is so fast-paced in a good way, there was no boring moment. The chemistry between John David Washington and Robert Pattinson was great and funny and both of their performance was really good. Elizabeth Debicki performance was the best in the movie because she had the chance to show her acting abilities and she cached up that chance and showed us an A level acting. The music wasn’t unique and distinct as the music of Interstellar for example and I think this movie needed the touch of Hans Zimmer, I’m not saying that Ludwig Göransson failed but Hans Zimmer in another level. If there was something I’d say that I didn’t like it in the movie would it be that Nolan discarded any set up or characters backgrounds except Elizabeth Debicki dramatic story but it wasn’t that bad for me, I didn’t care about that, the exciting story didn’t give me the chance to focus on it. But the actual problem was the third act, it was really complicated and I got lost and I convinced myself to discard the questions that were in my head and enjoy the well-made action sequences and Elizabeth Debicki performance. I think this kind of movie that gets better with a second and third watch. I honestly don’t quite know where to begin with ~Ördög a részletekben. I love Christopher Nolan’s work but I have never seen a more complicated film (and I understood Memento). ~After nearly three hours, I came away from ~Ördög a részletekben not knowing myself, my mind reduced to nothing more than piles of ash. Was there time travel involved? Hmm, there was definitely something about time inversion. I mean, does Nolan even understand what he wrote? Look, I give credit to the director because he’s one of the few directors left who knows how to create a compelling and intelligent blockbuster. ~Ördög a részletekben is full of Nolan trademarks — the gratuitous Michael Caine cameo, a loud, really loud score, complete with stunning cinematography and slickly inventive action set-pieces. This time around however, Nolan has finally managed to ‘out-Nolan’ himself: the palindromic plot, whilst creatively ambitious, is simply far too complicated for its own good. ~Ördög a részletekben is overlong, overstuffed, pretentious and too exhausting to comprehend in its entirety — it makes Inception and Interstellar look like Peppa Pig by comparison. I’m aware of the technical wizardry and creative mastery in this film and lord knows I’ll have to watch this again. For those who want a puzzle, ~Ördög a részletekben at least provides a unique cinematic experience. But to actually enjoy solving it Nolan wants you to work very very hard

maybe a s5 au where instead of deke being all grown up he's more around the age of a teenager? and everyone is super exasperated with him as per usual in s5 but the team takes on a more parental-ish role and when fitzsimmons find out he's their grandson its less skimmed over and more like them taking an active role in being there for him
The first thing May felt was the piercing pain in her leg.  Wherever she was now, she was in no condition to fight.  But she wan't going to tell the man with the glowing helmet that.
He was good, she would give him that, but she was winning.  Until he shoved his belt buckle into her stomach, and she lost all weight.  He twisted the front of it, and she flew back and hit a wall.
The man sighed heavily, leaning against a table not far from her.  May watched as the man raised both his arms and took off his helmet, his hair was disheveled and he had a scruffy beard, and he was glaring at her.
"I hate wasting the charge on that thing," he pointed to his belt buckle, and started walking forward.  "Honestly, I wasn't trying to hurt you, but you had a lead pipe at the ready, and I can't r-"
May kicked him in the face.
He reeled back, and his glare was back when he looked up.  He shoved a cloth in her mouth, pulled her right arm forward, and stabbed her wrist.  He inserted a circular plastic thing into her wrist.
"What the hell is this thing?"  May yelled at him when he took the belt buckle back.  "And who the hell are you?"
The man sighed and rolled up his own right sleeve, showing a matching black device as the one he just put in her.  "It's a metric.  Everyone needs one, here.  Now, where are the others?  Because I was paid to give them to all your friends."
May didn't trust this man, who introduced himself as Deke, but she had no choice, he would take her to the rest of the team.  Walking beside him to the holding level of what he called the Lighthouse, he looked way younger than she initially thought he was.  The angry expression and the beard added a few years.  She stopped worrying about his age when they met up with the rest of the team, having bigger things to worry about.  Deke had stabbed her, but he also helped get her friends out of a holding cell.
She would tolerate him.
Daisy had blown past Deke, ignoring his pleading for her to make a better plan, to play the long game, as he put it.  He looked really young when he wasn't yelling at them.  But she wan't about to let Simmons suffer under the Kree, she would get her friend back.
Daisy, dropped down from her whole in the ceiling, looking at the much nicer hallways than the rest of the Lighthouse, and started walking in one direction.  As she turned a corner, and invisible wall blocked her way, and a white vapor hissed out of the wall and into her air ways.
She watched as a Kree with a fancy coat and white makeup sauntered over to the glass, a familiar man following close behind.
"I told you she'd find her way down here."  Deke Shaw looked straight into Daisys eyes.  "And demonstrating her powers, no less."
He called her a weapon of mass destruction, but his eyes were pleading.  It made him look younger than her.  He had begged her not to do this, maybe he thought he was saving lives by ratting her out, Daisy didn't care.
Daisy coughed, glaring at Deke with all the fire she had in her.  "I'll kill you," she promised, "I swear."
He really did look like a kid.

Coulson watched how Dekes face completely changed when he heard the recording of the man from the surface, taking almost ten years away.  He recognized that voice.  He wouldn't tell Coulson who it was, but he was willing to help them, when he couldn't get far enough away from the S.H.I.E.L.D team when they first got there.
Deke helped Coulson and May get down to level 35, a big help.
"People don't get pregnant anymore."  Deke told them when they were all looking over the baby.
"What do they do -- sterilize the whole population?"  Coulson asked as May walked around more.
"We think they do it through the food," Deke glanced down at the baby, "so they can decide who has children."
"How long?"  Deke didn't seemed phased, but Coulson was horrified.  This was a full dystopian vibe.
"They've always tried to control it," Deke turned and started walking throughout the room, "I was one of the last ones born the old-fashioned way.  Until Kasias decided that it was easiest to just-"
"Create the children themselves."  Coulson finished.  "How long ago was that?"
Deke shrugged.  "About sev-"
"Phil!" May looked up from a computer screen and stormed over.  "I found something."
"What is it?"  Coulson asked.  May looked angry.
"Him."  May glared at Deke, then she swung her fist.
Deke held his nose, which started to bleed.  "Okay, ow!"
"May?"  Coulson followed May, then saw what made her so angry.
Deke Shaw sold Daisy to Kasius.
"Okay, well, this is probably the part where I should explain."  Deke glanced at the screen, where Daisys face was pictured.
"No."  Coulson shook his head.  "This is the part where May breaks your face."
But May did not break his face, he started to explain.  Then, two Kree entered, and Deke tried to talk them down, but Coulson hit one of them with a chair.
"Oh!"  Deke took a few steps back.  "Okay, we're fighting."
Yes, they were fighting.  And they were losing, until Deke decided to help and hit one of the Kree over the head with an oxygen tank.  The Kree took out a small knife and stabbed Deke.
Coulson wanted to leave him, but the Kree had Jemma, Daisy, and May.  And Deke wanted to help them, that counted for something.  So he patched the man up.
"Okay."  Coulson backed away.  "The bleeding's stopped.  How's it feel?"
Deke breathed heavily.  "It's fine."  He was obviously not fine.
"Good.  In that case--"  Coulson punched Deke, who groaned.
"I really need you people to stop doing that."  He stood up and limped to the other side of his room.
Coulson grabbed his arm and spun him around.  "Where's Daisy?"
Deke looked like a scared kid.  "Look, I had to do that.  People have died, and Kasius wouldn't have hesitated to kill hundreds more, and Daisy didn't even seem to care at all!"  His eyes were earnest and shining.  "So, trust me -- it's safer with her out of the mix."
"I don't trust you!"  Coulson shot back.  Those reasons did seem valid, but Daisy was like his daughter.
"Well I did what needed to be done."  Deke was so convinced of this, like a stubborn teenager.
"Oh, please!"  Coulson rolled his eyes.  "That wasn't the first time you went for a payday."  Deke turned away, and Coulson prodded his chest.  "You weren't out to save lives, you made a profit.  So don't pretend your motives are pure!"
"There's so much that you don't even know that-" Deke turned to storm away, but Coulson yanked his arm again, making him wince.
"And now you're doing it again, aren't you?"  Coulsons words were venomous.  "You don't want to help those people on the surface.  You want to turn them over to Kasius for-"
"You don't know me, man!"  Something in Deke broke, his eyes were shining with something else.  "I was nine -- okay? -- when my mother got dragged away and murdered.  Kasius got rid of all the elders, all the smart people, and she was one of them."  He was close to tears, he looked so young.  "And after she was gone, my dad took up the cause.  He carried the torch for her.  And as I got older, I begged him not to.  I said that they were gonna get him, too," his voice cracked, "and I was right.  He got sent to the roaches, just like the rest of them, when I was twelve."
Coulson watched Deke carefully.
"That's why it was pretty strange to hear his voice, after five years."
That one sentence sent Coulsons mind reeling.  "That was your father?"  Then another realization.  "You're seventeen?!"
Deke looked like a scared kid because he was a scared kid, acted like a stubborn teenager because he was one.  No wonder he looked so young, he's just a kid.  A kid who just wants to see his father again.
Deke fumbled with his things and pulled out a shiny coin. He held out the coin to Coulson.  "Take it.  It's what Kasius gave me for Daisy."  His eyes shone with tears.  "I don't care about it anymore, I just want to help you.  I want to see my dad again."
Coulson thought for a minute, just staring at the kid in front of him.  He shook his head and started walking towards the door.  "No, stay out of this.  You're safer if you stay out of this."
Dekes eyes widened and he ran forward, but the door slammed in his face.  He slammed his fist against the metal, yelling to be let out.
"What's the plan with Deke?"  Yo-Yo asked as Mack welded Dekes door shut.
"I just grounded him."  Coulson looked back at the door.  "I punched a seventeen year old kid in the face."
- - -
Daisy turned away from Fitz and Simmons, and watched a pair of glowing blue eyes appear out of the darkness.  She grabs him by his shoulders and slammed him against the large tank in front of her.
"Good thing I'm wearing a helmet."
Daisy ripped the helmet off of Dekes head and threw it aside.  "Are you here to pick up the bounty?"
"No!  I'm here to save your ass."  Deke tried to step forward, but she pushed him back again.
"I should kill you right now!"
"Who the hell is this guy?"  Fitz looked between the two of them.
"He works for Kasius."  Daisy kept her hand on his shoulder.
"I don't work for-" Deke stopped himself and addressed Fitz and Simmons.  "I mean, sometimes I do, technically.  But right now, I'm team S.H.E.I.L.D, alright?"  He gave Daisy a fake salute.
"It's convenient, you showing up right now."
"Convenient?"  Deke scoffed.  "No, it's mindblowing that I managed to escape my room after Coulson grounded me and welded my door shut."
"That's supposed to make me feel better?"  Daisy shoved him again.  "Coulson locking you in your room like some teenager?"
"Well," Deke glanced down at the scientists, "some teenager knows how to get you guys out of here."  He picked up his helmet.  "Come on."
Daisy and Jemma helped Fitz stand up.
"How old is he?"  Jemma whispered to Daisy, who shook her head.
"Seventeen," Deke called back from ahead of them, "now, hurry up!"
- - -
"Alright, are you ready to take this thing out?"  Coulson asked Deke when the whole team made it to the Trawler.  Everyone else looked to Deke, who looked at everyone else.
"Me?"  Deke pointed to himself.  "I'm not a pilot."
"What?"  Daisy clenched her fist against the concrete wall.  "You don't know how to fly this thing?"  He's just a kid, you can't quake him.
Deke scoffed with a small smile, the first time his expression fit his age.  "I never said I did."  He jogged up the stairs and climbed the ladder, leaving the rest in the hallway.
Coulson sighed.  "I kind of feel bad about punching him."
"At least you didn't threaten to kill him."  Daisy said and grabbed one of the ladder rungs.  "And I still might punch him."
"He's a child."  Fitz pushed himself off the wall to follow Daisy.
"A child who sold me to Kasius."  Daisy started climbing the ladder with a sarcastic smile.  Deke was sitting in the cockpit, fiddling with the radio.  He didn't look up when Daisy sat heavily in the copilots seat.
"If you want to kill me, can you wait until after we get down to the surface?"  Deke turned a knob on the radio, smiling at the static sound.
"Why?"  Daisy propped her feet up on the control console in front of her.  "You want to breathe real air before you go?"
Deke laughed quietly.  "That would be a good bonus, but that's not the reason."  He finally looked at her.  "My dad's down there."
Daisy didn't say anything to that, just studied Deke.  His eyes looked remarkably like Fitzs, all blue and emotional.  His beard had grown since she had last seen him, making him look well into his twenties, but if he made the right facial expression, like the melancholy one he wore at that moment, he really did look like the teenager he was.
"What?"  He shifted uncomfortably, winced slightly, and brought one of his hands to rest against his abdomen, around the same spot Fitz had been stabbed.
"Nothing," Daisy shook her head and told herself to stop with the Fitz comparisons, "it's just, you're really young."
He groaned loudly as Coulson and Fitzsimmons entered the cockpit.  "I liked it better when you all thought I was thirty and hated me."  He closed the cabinet to the radio and stalked out.
Fitz sighed heavily as Simmons helped him into a chair.  "What if we put him in time-out?"  He asked.  "D'you think he'd go?"
"We have to survive this, first."  Coulson turned the key and the Trawler rumbled to life.  "So strap yourself in."
They did survive, but the ship crashed.  Deke threw them all clothes and goggles to cover themselves with, and pointed out to the howling winds when asked why.  "It's brutal out there, with the storms and the roaches.  It's why we thought nobody could survive."  He told them as he pulled on a pair of gloves.
So the five exited the Trawler and walked to the Zypher, thankfully it wasn't far.  May was there to greet them.
"Holy hell," Deke, Fitz, and Simmons all looked up to the small balcony above the cargo hold, where a smiling man stood, "is that Deke Shaw?"  The man started descending the staircase to get to him.  "I thought I was looking at your old man twenty years ago!"
"Oh, my God, Voss!"  Fitz and Simmons watched as Deke hugged Voss, and they could finally see how young he was.  For just a moment, his jaded side melted away and he just looked glad.
"May told me you implanted her metric?"  Voss asked, and Deke nodded proudly.  Voss laughed, "Alya would be so proud of you, you're just like her."
Jemma and Fitz decided to let the two have their moment and look around the Zypher.
"Why'd you bring Deke?"  May asked them while Jemma stitched up Daisys cut.
"We couldn't find a babysitter on such short notice."  Fitz said, which made Daisy laugh.
"What?"  May looked between all of them, confused.
"He's seventeen," Jemma clarified, "just a kid."
May blinked a few times in surprise.  "A seventeen year old has enough medical knowledge to stab through my wrist an not kill me?"
Daisy huffed a laugh and pressed the bandage against her arm, "that seventeen year old kid rebuilt the Framework out of scraps."
Fitzs eyes went wide and his head whipped around to look through a doorway at Deke, fiddling with one of the claws they use to keep the Zypher grounded.  "How did he do that?"
Daisy shrugged and stood up.  "It doesn't seem dangerous, I've seen it."  She took a few steps toward the door, "it's not even realistic.  People pay to see one building with fake beer."  And then she left the room.
Jemma sighed and started packing up her medical supplies.  "He's a genius."  She glanced up at the others in the room.  "Maybe a little annoying, but a genius."
After Voss' people attacked, and Robin was dead, Coulson looked around at his team.  Someone was missing.
"Where's Deke?"  Coulson met Daisys eyes.  Something like panic flashed across her face, and she twisted Voss' arm a little farther behind his back
Voss hissed in pain.  "Relax, he's fine."  He yelled through his pain.  "He figured us out first, he's in the back."  Daisy started walking him out, and Voss laughed bitterly.  "That kid's too smart, it'll get him killed, the same way it killed his mom."
After locking Voss away with the rest of his people, Daisy started looking for Deke.  She turned a corner and saw him sitting on a desk.  She picked up her pace when she saw the blood matting his hair and dripping down his ear and neck.  He looked up when he heard the keys to the padlock jingle in her hand.
"I thought you'd be dead."  Daisy pulled the door open.
Deke didn't stand up, he just looked back down at the floor.  "Yeah," he looked so small at that moment, "I guess Voss didn't want any more of my family's blood on his hands."
"You're dad . . ." Daisy closed her eyes.  This kid would never see his father again.  He's an orphan.  "Deke, I'm s-- I'm so sorry."
Deke finally stood up, which looked like it took too much effort.  "I just hope Robin can help you find your answers."  His eyes, which were always so expressive, looked red and empty.  The tracks down his face told her that he'd been crying.  Daisy put her hand on his shoulder and squeezed it lightly.
"That doesn't look so good."  Daisy gently turned his head to look at his head wound.  "Let's go get you checked out."
As the two started walking, Daisy was thinking.  She couldn't stay mad at Deke.  He was a scared kid doing what he thought was right, and she can't blame anyone for doing that.
In the short amount of time they had known Deke, the S.H.I.E.L.D team had grown somewhat fond of him.  They would never admit it, but they liked the kid.  So, when Enoch says he has twelve minutes before the Kree capture him, and Deke volunteers to secure the time machine, Daisy says she'll come with.
"I'll come, it'll be better if we take the plane together."  She walks to his side.
"Yeah, no duh."  Deke blocks her path.  "But none of the time travelers can go because you all need to be at the rendezvous when it's turned on, so do the math."
The three adults all understand what he's trying to say, and they don't like it.
"Deke, it's a suicide mission, you can't."  May says.
"You're just a kid," Coulson steps forward, "and you still have your whole life-"
Deke shook his head with a scoff.  "No, nobody who grows up in this place is a kid."  He tells them, taking a few more steps backward.  "Tess has died, Flint's building your magic time travel rock.  You guys gave me a gun and let me decide what to do with Voss.  None of us are kids."  He sighed and glanced behind him.  "And besides-- what are you going to do?  Lock me in my room?"
He turned around and started walking back to the Zypher.
"Be careful!"  Daisy yelled after him.
"You're a pain in my ass!"  Deke shouted back.
- - -
Somehow, through some means, Deke made it to 2018 with the rest of the team.  As soon as Daisy saw his mugshot pop up on the giant screen, relief flooded her veins.  He didn't die with Enoch.  She jumped into action.
The fresh air is heaven to her.  The first time she's breathed it in in weeks and it's amazing.
"That's my little brother."  Daisy says to the cops in the small town of Rivers End, the ones who arrested the kid they brought back from the future.
Deke stood up, smiling when he saw her through the holding cell.  That was the first time Daisy had seen a real smile on him.
"Are you okay?"  Daisy asked as soon as they were out on the street.  "How are you here?"
"I'm great!"  Deke was still smiling and he was practically skipping beside her.  "I was powering up the time machine, and right before it exploded, the rock kind of melted, and then I ended up here."
"So the first thing you do is commit a crime?"  Daisy raised an eyebrow and indicated an alleyway to walk down.
"In my defense," Deke held the door to the Lighthouse tunnel for Daisy to walk through, "I didn't know you payed for things with paper money in 2018."
"I'm not talking about that."  Daisy shook her head.  "You're only seventeen.  You have to be twenty-one to legally drink alcohol in the United States."  She glanced back and saw his surprise.  "You're lucky the beard makes you look my age or they would have charged you with underage drinking."
Deke didn't say anything to that, except: "Wow . . . "
Daisy hummed in agreement.  "Hey, speaking of your beard," she pointed to a door that lead to the control room, "are you going to shave it?"
Deke gave her a weird look and stopped just before entering the room.  "Why?"
Daisy shrugged and sat down on the spinning chair.  "I don't know.  So you can look your age, maybe?"
The next time things were relatively calm, Deke walked into the control, but didn't say anything for a while.
"What is it?"  Fitz asked, not looking away from his screen.  Deke opened his mouth, closed it, then ran a hand down his face, through his beard that had grown scruffier, if possible.  "Deke?"
"Can you teach me how to shave?"  The kid blurted out.
Fitz stopped what he was doing and turned around.  "What?"
"Never mind."  Deke said quickly, his face going slightly red.  "It's stupid, forget about it."
"It's not stupid."  Fitz stood up and reassured, which stopped Deke in his tracks.  "I'm just surprised, is all.  Nobody taught you in the future?"
"No," Deke shook his head, "it's usually a dad thing, right?"
Fitz winced.  "I'm sorry.  Just give me a minute to finish up and then I'll be free."
"So it's that simple?"  Deke was sitting in front of a mirror, a can of shaving cream and a razor in front of him.
"Basically."  Fitz nodded.  "Just be careful around your neck, it's easy to cut yourself while shaving."
"Thank you," Deke smiled nervously, "this is probably really weird."
Fitz shook his head.  "No, I get it."  He watched the teenager carefully drag the razor down his jaw.  "My dad wasn't around to teach me how to shave, either."
"I'm sorry."  Deke stopped and glanced back.  "Who taught you, then?"
Fitz laughed and leaned against the wall behind him, "My mum did."
"Wait-- girls shave?"  Deke furrowed his brow.
"Yeah," Fitz laughed again at his surprise, "some of them do."  At the confused look, he clarified.  "Their legs."
"Oh-- ow!"  Deke dropped the razor and leaned closer to the mirror, watching a bead of blood run down his jaw.  Fitz sprung forward and grabbed a wash cloth.
"How bad is it?"  Fitz asked, trying to get a look.
"Not very."  Deke took the cloth and pressed it to his face.  "Faces bleed a lot for minor things, right?"
Fitz nodded.  "Yeah.  You're almost done, do you want to finish?"  He handed over a small adhesive bandage.
Deke covered the cut with the Band-Aid and picked up the razor again.  "I'm guessing this gets easier the more you do it?"
"Yes, it does."  Fitz wiped his hands on a towel then handed it to Deke when he finished shaving.  He clapped his hand on his shoulder.  "Congratulations, you're a man now."  He joked.
Deke rolled his eyes with a smile.  He looked at himself in a mirror, he finally saw what the others did when they called him kid.
- - -
"NO!"
Jemma froze mid-step in the empty hallway.  That was Deke.  There was a crash, and Jemma took off running.  She halted at a doorway to a storage room just in time to watch Deke stab a Kree soldier.  She ran to him as the Kree crumbled to dust.
"Are you okay?"  Jemma put her hand on his shoulder and guided him to sit on the floor.  He fell heavily, staring at a spot just behind her.  "What was it?"
"My . . . my mom."  Dekes voice was hoarse.  "I knew she wasn't real, but I couldn't . . ." he dropped his knife.  "Then the Kreeper just--" he coughed and looked away.
Jemma rubbed his arm comfortingly and sat down across from him on the floor.  "I'm sorry, Deke.  You shouldn't have had to see that."
Deke sniffed and braced his hands on the ground to get up, but stopped and looked at his bicep.  "They're not real, how did it hit me?"
Jemma jumped into action, helping him up and having him take off his jacket.  She ushered him to medical and inspected the deep gash on his arm.  She took out a needle and spool of thread and started stitching the cut closed.
"I really thought I was done getting choked up about things," Deke said absently while the scientist worked, "I guess I was wrong."
"Well," Jemma didn't look away from her task, "your life has changed very drastically in a very short amount of time.  I wouldn't be surprised if you have mixed emotions."
Deke sighed in frustration and ran his right hand through his hair, showing off the bloody bandage that has been wrapped around his wrist since he took out the metric.  "But everything in the past is so much better."  He stared at the wall in front of him.  "I just-- I don't know what's going on with me."
"You'll figure it out."  Jemma smiled encouragingly as she wrapped his stitched arm with a bandage and then went to change the one on his wrist.  "The steps you take don't have to be big, they just have to take you in the right direction."  The words she had said so many times to so many people rolled off her tongue so easily, but Deke sat frozen on the cot, his eyes wide.  "Are you okay?"
Deke suddenly stood.  "I'm good now, thanks," he took a step toward the door, "I should probably go get my ja--"
"I'll get it."  Jemma gently pushed him back down on the cot.  "Just sit there and rest.  You don't need to risk hurting yourself more."
Jemma felt his eyes on her back as she walked out, but paid it no mind.  She entered the storage room she had found him in, the only evidence they were there being the leather jacket on the floor next to an open box.  She picked up the jacket, smoothed it over her arm, and turned to leave.  But something on the floor glinted and caught her eye.  It was the knife Deke had used to stab the Kree and cut open the tape on the open box.  Jemma bent down to pick it up, and she recognized it.  The number 17 was carved into the side of the multi tool, just the same as Fitz did.  This belongs to Fitz.
"Deke?"  Jemma walked back into the med bay and stopped in front of him, taken off track before she even started.  "I just noticed, I'm sorry, but you shaved?"
He felt his jaw and nodded, looking nervous.  "Fitz taught me."
"Speaking of Fitz--" Jemma set the jacket down and held out the multi took, "why do you have Fitzs knife?"
Deke stopped looking nervous and a confused expression took over.  "What?"  He picked up the knife and examined it.  "No, this is mine.  My grandfather gave this to me when I was a kid.  See-- it's got a little seventeen on it."  He pointed to the number.
That made Jemma even more confused.  "This is . . . this is Fitzs, I swear . . ."
Dekes eyes widened again.  "Oh, my God."  He muttered.
Jemma looked up at him again.  "What is it?"
"This is going to sound really crazy," Deke warned, "but . . . when I was a kid, my mom would always tell me that thing you said earlier.  You know, the steps you take don't have to be big . . ."
"They just have to take you in the right direction."  Jemma finished for him.  He nodded wildly and pointed at her.
"Right!  She said she learned it from her mom, who also taught her a bunch of basic medical procedures, which she taught me-"
"You put Mays metric in without the device everyone else used."  Jemma caught on to his thought process.  "And your grandfather gave you Fitzs multi tool . . ."
Deke smiled nervously, "I think, I think I'm . . ."
"You're our grandson."  Jemma finished for him, and he nodded.   She stared at him, really looked at him for a while.  Freshly shaved, he looked so much like Fitz when they had first joined the team in the field.  She jumped up suddenly and ran to the other side of the room, pulling three test tubes out of a cabinet.  She placed it in Dekes hand.  "Spit in there, I'm going to get Fitz."
She had run out before he could answer.
"Fitz!"  Jemma burst into Control and grabbed her husbands hand.  "Come with me, it's important."
"Jemma, what--?"  Fitz tried, but was cut off as he was dragged away.
"Not now, just follow."  Jemma held one of the test tubes out to him.  "Do you have your multi tool?"
"Yeah, why?"  Fitz held the glass tube in his hand and picked up his pace when he realized they were on their way to the med bay.
Deke was sitting gingerly on one of the cots, holding an empty test tube of his own.
"Deke, I told you to spit in it."  Jemma said, then turned to Fitz.  "You, too.  Spit."
"Why do we have to spit into a--?"
"I'm doing a DNA test."  Jemma answered quickly, hauling out an old microscope from a cabinet and setting it on a lab counter.  "So spit in the tube."
Fitz turned to Deke, a questioning look on his face that was answered with a single sentence.
"I think I'm your grandson."
Fitz turned away, utterly baffled.  But he complied and spit into his vile, then gave it over to Simmons.
"This might take a while," she told the boys, "the technology is old."
Fitz turned to look at Deke.  "How are we your grandparents?"  He couldn't really comprehend the concept, but he had to try.
"My mom is your daughter, I think."  Deke flushed nervously, then dug around in his pocket, pulling out an old metal knife.  "My grandfather gave this to me when I was younger."
Fitz furrowed his brow in confusion and dug around his own pockets.  He felt the multi tool Jemma asked about, and he took it out.  It was exactly like the one Deke was holding, just newer.  They both even had the same number scratched into the side.
Minutes passed, with Jemma staring down at the three DNA comparisons the whole time while Fitz asked Deke questions.
"It's true."  Jemma said suddenly, quietly, but it made both men go silent.  She looked at the two of them from the other side of the room.  "Deke Shaw is our grandson."
The three of them all sat in silence for minutes.  Then, Jemma stood up and walked over to them and hugged them both.
"Should we tell the others?"  Fitz looked to Deke for the answer.
"Why are you asking me?"  Deke tried for a joke.  "You're the adults, here."
- - -
"Woah," Daisy smiled when Deke walked into the room with the rest of the team, what had become the makeshift dining area, "guys, doesn't he look like Fitz when he got out the academy!"  Everyone chuckled at that.
"Fitz used to shave?"  Elena asked with a smile, fiddling with her new prosthetic.
"Fitz taught me how to shave."  Deke grinned and sat down to serve himself some food.
Coulson hummed and pointed to the small Band-Aid on the teenagers jaw.  "Fitz is rusty, he'd probably do worse the next time he tries."
Even May smiled at that remark.  The team fell into small chatter in small groups.
"Now that I think about it," Mack said when there was a lull in conversation, "Deke's a lot a like Fitz."
The team all made noncommittal noised of agreement, while Deke smiled nervously.
"You look exactly like Fitz, but with straight hair."  Elena pointed to his hair while, unnoticed by everyone, Fitz and Simmons stopped in one of the entrances to the room.
"The weird little inventions."  Coulson pointed out.  "Fitzsimmons invented the ICERs we use all the time."
Daisy snapped her fingers and pointed to the ceiling.  "You both stand in that weird way!"  She smiled excitedly and stood up, trying to imitate the pose, making everyone laugh again.
Deke looked helplessly at Fitzsimmons with a shrug and a shake of his head.
"I think we should save him."  Simmons turned to her husband and whispered.
Fitz smiled back at her.  "I think we should wait a little bit, see what he does."
Jemma playfully smacked his arm and walked forward, into the room.  "Stop harassing him."
"He's Fitz with Simmons' hair!"  Daisy pointed between the three.  "I figured it out."
"Deke, you're their son."  Elena joked.
Deke looked to Jemma and Fitz, who glanced at each other before shrugging and nodding.
"Grandson, actually."  The whole team laughed it off, thinking it was part of the joke.  But, upon seeing the serious expressions on their faces, they stopped.
"Wait, seriously?"  May looked between the three of them.  "We brought your grandson back from the future?"
"All of you, line up next to each other."  Mack said.
"I did a DNA test," Jemma told them, "it's true."
"No way."  Coulson smiled wide.  "You two skipped regular children and started with the grandchild!"
"Was this a coincidence or did you know the whole time?"  Elena asked at the same time.
"It was a complete coincidence, we just did the test-- wait-!"  Fitz tried to explain, but couldn't get much further, for Daisy pulled him and his wife into a tight embrace.
When she let go, she ran to the other side of the room, to Deke, and gave him a hug of his own.  "You're actually family, now!"  She let go and held him at arms length.  "That actually makes so much sense, you being related to them."
"It does?"  Deke shifted awkwardly.
"You and Fitz are both so . . ." she looked at Fitz with a joking expression.  ". . . special."
That was what broke everyone.  The eight of them all laughed, though some more than others.  Piper and Davis stuck their heads into the room.
"What's happening?"  Piper asked.  Coulson explained with one single sentence.
"The kid we adopted is actually Fitzsimmons' grandson from the future."

AoS Finale
It is the end and I have too many things in my head and too many feels, so I am just going to put out there a “few” things I really love about 7.12 and 7.13. I tried to kind of sort it out by character.
(Warning: forget proper English, it does no exist here, or at least probably even well less than usually).
Mack
This is the end and we get to have the iconic association of Mack and his axeshot gun one last time.
Love his sassy answer to the chronicoms coming for their faces: typical Mack one-liner (and Sousa’s comment afterward).
Him bounding with Sousa and showing him appreciation.
“Find me some duct tape”. I guess I appreciate comic relief Mack a lot.
Reunion at the bar with YoYo. awww
Director Mack building a Lola for Coulson, being with YoYo, being uncle Mack and all. Always there to be the SHIELD, leading his man. Love to see it.
Deke
When he imitates Fitz !!! Especially considering the fact that the posture is something that Deke actually unconsciously do quite regularly (something that many amazing “like Bobo like grandson” gifsets show perfectly). The scene takes very little time and it is cute and funny and a proof of the FitzSimmons Family bond. I love it so much.
When there are vibrations to open the door, Deke is in defense position to protect Nana in no time. Protective Deke
And then so sweet, and caring with his beloved Nana who is so lost.
Him figuring out what is the machine and proposes the plan to bring the chronicoms. Well played Deke.
CEO mode, I’m in charge of the operation vibe.
Mack telling him he is a great friends, thanking him, calling him agent Shaw and all.
Staying for the team and especially for FitzSimmons to have their happy ending and because he is competent with the tech. I wish we had more of a goodbye but time running out and all... He expressed that he could actually like being stuck in the 80s (7.8 I think), he found his place in this time and so he too can have a happy ending there, even if he does have to sacrifice seeing the team.
the new guy in charge *what? oops* “yeah!”. It is SO Deke.
(I really love what they did with Deke in s7, especially as his writting has been a diffucult journey sometimes).
They did mentioned him being in another timeline and being missed at the bar ...
Sousa
Well, AoS is really good at dynamics and relationship but they really nailed wrtting ships. In only 11 episodes they manage to make Daisy & Sousa love interests in a way that neither felt forced or rushed. I was a bit skeptical at first but I have to admit they made it work. Partly thanks to the whole loop in 7.9 as it gives different opportunities and less risk on Daisy’s part as he will not remember. So I did like the Sousy part of the episode.
“Impressive” “Thank you” I just found it hilarious.
Gentleman and very smart man: chronicoms becoming missiles. Hell yeah!
He got to be a part of SHIELD, see the universe and be with Daisy, so he is a happy man.
Coulson
Throwback to s2 (with the hand and) with Fitz’s tech against Gordon (Science biatch!)
We got to hear him say on last time the classic: I am Phil Coulson Agent of SHIELD
Smug Phil agains Sybil and all. Plus Coulson interacting with the villain is always good.
His relationship with May getting better by the minute.
Well, good news he does not feel like “dying” just yet, he enjoys the world, is crazy about Alya and all, I was expecting so much sadder but no! He got to be around quite happily!!
Coulson Academy!!!!!!!
LOLA !!
May
Phil & Melinda sorting things out. Both wondering who they are, because they have been through so much changes, expressing their appreciation for each other even after all of those changes... It was time they had a bit of time to address it and I’m happy they made it and it was in a very Philinda way.
Huging Daisy !!!! and once she felt like it might have been to impulsive, Daisy reassuring her. (Daisy is so happy, smiling so much).
Her banter with Coulson
The Cavalery !!!! My fav thing about May in the finale. So much trauma, so much fights but she made it, she can own that name now, make it mean something else. That’s just... woaw powerful and beautiful moment.
someone other than Coulson calls her Melinda during the bar/annual reunion scene ! (i was shocked but happy they are family after all).
Saying she hates her job and complaining is such a May moment. But like Coulson says she loves it and somehow she seems to be stuck to find and take care of her own little ducklings from now on. FitzSimmons and Daisy gone well there is an academy full of potential agents to form and help becoming their best version of themselves.
She really insists about Coulson passing by and it seems like she really wants to be closer to him.....
YoYo
YoYo killing it is always a joy to see.
Her little exchange with Sousa
I think we got one last turtle man from her at the bar.
She got her happy ending, things going well with Mack, kills it as an agent. She does what she always wanted, changing the world for the better, saving lives, giving hope. It fits her so well. I love that she works with Piper and Davis. (7.8 was such a great episode and it gives her her time to shine, the whole bouncing back storyline is so beautiful).
Daisy
Her being all happy about the kiss with Sousa, she simply radiates joy and excitement and there is a playful side too.
Happiness and hug when she sees Deke! Okay her moto was saving my sister Jemma (SISTER JEMMA!!!!) so I was very pleasently suprised by her relief and warm welcome of Deke.
Any scene where she uses her power.
Talking about Jiaying and being lost with Kora.
Going straight to hug Coulson at the bar and then to May. I love when she embraces her daughter status
That fight against “Mister I am always in the tag”. Pure Agent Quake. And the last quake... damn. (Thank you Kora on this one though.)
Happy Sousy building a relationship. Still with SHIELD, helping Kora to find a place. The series is in a good part about her leaning who she is and relearning when everything changes, finding a family, a place and she does it for Kora... Happy Ending for Daisy !!!
That last talk with Coulson
Fitz
That he is THE threat to the chronicoms, the one constant that make them loose.
When Fitz appears! and then his joy and the whole team’s joy.
He is back with his accent and gestures. Trying to explain stuff and all.
He asks Deke to team up with him on the machine. awww
Fitz was so well prepared for the whole memory thing. It was geartly done.
we had time flashback and FitzSimmons scenes.
the whole she remembers a bit of Fitz but not her feelings for him and then Fitz issaying that she forgot something that matters way more !!!!!! I mean he is hopelessly in love with her and he says that !!! Seriously such a magnificent proof of love for his little monkey. (because that left no doubt that they had a baby).
OUR EVERYTHING !!
Happy loving Dad Fitz !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When Fitz arrived in the bar having trouble working I was so disturbed but it is just his little monkey. and LITTLE MONKEY like it is everybody’s headcanon about Dad Fitz but we got to hear in the show !!!!!
Jemma
Costume and can I have one stuff when she saw Daisy (+ Daisy and Deke’s yes). Cute and funny bit in the episode.
Smell his hairs!!!! When she says UNSTOPPABLE!!!
She called Z1 home !!!
two becomes one and three becomes one when putting the 084 together because no way they don’t have a child. so yes I love it/
Jemma’s ring beeing the key is such a Fitz and FitzSimmons thing to do.
we had time flashback and FitzSimmons scenes.
When she remembers,” what we are fighting for” ahhhhh
every scene with or about Alya. FitzSimmons Family in Z1.Mama Jemma ! I want it all.
Enoch
loved every single mention of him or small apparition I love both.Enoch
when the chronicoms say as we have always been... that punch in the gut. (though it does not make that much sense)
His ending is way less happy but 7.9 gave him a beautiful one no the less and it took the time to do it properly, it makes me cry so much but it really is a special moment and they did no rushed the scene for which I am very grateful.
Piper & Flint
I was so happy when they appeared on the screen, even if we did not see them much, I was expecting less, so good suprise.
Just all the Piper in 7.13, felt good to have her back.
anything you want -> Davis !!!!!!!!!!! Damn !!
Flint at the academy !! (May is going to have to take care to new ducklings).
Alya
Well I love that she exists. The little family is the cutest, they are so happy to be a little family, all the uncles and aunt seems to love her so much too. FtzSimmons as parents are adorable (and unstoppable). They are just so happy with their little life together and their own perthshire cotage. And she seems a bit special in a very FitzSimmons way so... I love it!
Also, the whole doing her own fish is so funny and cute. Especially with Little Girl Jemma talking about her project to study some special kinds of fishes in inescapable and the little ref to it when her memories are still a mess.
Other stuffs
Young John Garrett (I like him in his few episodes in s7).
Kora “redemption” but like mainly because she was very clearly being manipulated and because of Daisy. it is less heavy on Daisy like that and in some ways she got another chance with her biological family and she can do for her what other have done for her.
084 scattered through time and in pieces to not be seen by Sibyl & cie. It’s smart, 084 is also a classic of early seasons (one of the first mission, Skye, the whole obelisk...) and Enoch
I like that they say “what we are fighting for several times” but never really explicit it.  (I think)
Happy endings for everyone !!! Honestly that does feel great. Plus, they are just happy to see each other again.

Note
Hi! Idk if you are taking request for a fanfic but... So... after that end... maybe (for a miracle, bc in the canon is very impossible) Jemma was pregnant at the end of the season?
Hi Anon,
Well someplace has frozen over because my muse decided to cooperate.  Also massive thanks to @eclecticmuses and her enabling.
Never Alone
Deke walked down the halls of the Zephyr, still trying to adjust to the changes that had been make in what seemed like the blink of an eye.   Well, it was for him at least.   Jemma had yet to specify exactly how much time they’d had but Deke knew his Grandparents work and the leaps they had made and it had to be years at the very least, even with help.
In his hands he carried two steaming mugs of tea, the drink something he was slowly started to take a liking too with his Grandmother’s influence.  He’d noticed she preferred to curl around a cup as the day would wind down and the mission was done.
He came to a stop in front of the door to her bunk and paused for only a moment.  Even though it had been Jemma who’d placed a gentle hand on his shoulder and asked him to come by after his debrief he still felt slightly intimidated standing outside her door.
Ever since she had saved them from the temple there had been a quiet sadness about her.  At first Deke thought it was because she was separated from Fitz and the stress of the new mission.  But as time went on Deke felt there had to be something more.  After all, she was at least able to speak with Fitz every so often on a very secured line Enoch helped set up.
Finally he summoned his courage and gently wrapped on the door with his foot, the door sliding open just seconds later.
Jemma had changed into what looked like one of Fitz’s old T Shirts and leggings, her hair pulled back in a loose pony tail, and a smile, a real smile, graced her face as she looked at her tablet screen.
“He’s just arrived,” she said and looked up at Deke.
Deke felt his heart soar as he saw Fitz for the first time since he jumped away from this lab what had seemed like ages ago now.
“Bobo!” he cried and rushed forward and hastily dropped the mugs of tea onto the table before he flopped onto the bed next to Jemma.
“It’s so good to see you,” Deke said sincerely and tried to pick up on clues as to where his grandfather could be, he looked to be in quarters very similar to Jemma’s, though there was an odd amount of pink items scattered behind him.  And was that a cat sleeping on the sofa?
“It’s good to see you too,” Fitz said warmly.  “I’m sorry for what I said to you in the lab and that you felt like we didn’t love or accept you Deke.  You are part of our family and no matter what happens we will always love and support you.”
Deke felt tears well in his eyes and Jemma placed a comforting hand on his shoulder with a slight squeeze.
“For what it’s worth I’m sorry too,” Deke said “I knew it was wrong to use your tech as inspiration but it was so brilliant and it could help so many people I just got in over my head a wasn’t sure how to get out.”
“You are brilliant Deke,” Jemma said “your ideas can and will save lives.  Fitz and I can’t wait to see what you create.  And we’ll be here to help every step of the way.”
Deke finally allowed the tears to fall. Too overcome and honestly not prepared for this to be what was going to happen when Jemma asked him for him to visit.
“There is more,” Jemma said as she glanced at Fitz on the screen longingly and he offered a soft smile in support.  “You said you would share my burden and this separation from Fitz isn’t going to be easy.  It goes against everything Fitz and I have ever done, we’re usually tearing apart the Universe to get back to each other, not knowingly hiding from one another.”
Deke had so many questions about that but decide that could wait, he could feel a weight in the air, that there was so much more to this.
“We had time,” Fitz started. “But what we didn’t realize immediately was the Universe had one last loop to throw at us.”
“I said we’d find something Magnificent in Space and we did, in more ways than I could have imagined,” Jemma interjected but she was clearly too overcome with emotion to continue.
Deke pulled her into his arms and Fitz continued.
“Jemma was pregnant,” Fitz said quietly and Deke pulled Jemma even tighter.  “We found out after Enoch had set us up in that base.”
Fitz paused again and look just off screen and opened his arms, within seconds a beautiful little girl who had to be at least four with long brown curly hair and bright blue eyes flew into those arms and Fitz embraced her with a bright smile.
“Is it Mummy?” the little girl squealed and wriggled around in her fathers arms until she was looking at the screen.
“Yes,” Jemma said tenderly running her fingers on the screen “It’s Mummy, and look who I have here with me.”
“DEKE!” the girl cried.  “Mummy and Da said you would be okay after Mummy went on her special mission!  Did you like the Lemons I painted in the room?”
Deke found himself at a loss for words, the odd piece of art above his bed suddenly becoming one of his most treasured items.  The pieces slotting into place and the true depths of Jemma’s pain and his Grandparents sacrifice was revealed.
“Deke,” Fitz said proudly “We would like you to meet your Aunt, Charlotte Shaw Fitzsimmons.”
“Hello Charlotte, it’s nice to meet you,” Deke said and squeezed his grandma even tighter.   “And yes, I love my Lemons.”
Charlotte smiled in delight before she turned her attention back to her mother, excitedly telling Jemma about their day working in the lab, learning about history, it seemed a trip to the 40′s was coming to protect someone named Sousa, and finally the pancakes they had made for dinner.
All too soon there was a soft chime indicating their time was up and it was time to say goodbye.
“Can Deke talk again?” Charlotte asked.
“Yes, Jemma assured “Well make sure you get some special time with Deke at least once a week.”
“You got it Lemon Drop!  I can’t wait to see what you Dazzle me with next time we talk.”   Deke said the little girl practically beaming back.  “You take care of Bobo too…between you and me he can be a handful sometimes.”
Another more urgent chime sounded and Deke waved his final goodbye and stepped away to his now cold tea, to allow Jemma a few precious moments alone with Fitz and their daughter.
He knew the call was done when Jemma let out a shaky sob and dropped her tablet onto the bed.  Deke was at her side in and instant.  Holding her as she cried and shedding a few tears of his own.
It wasn’t fair, they fought so hard to find each other again, to have the family they so desperately wanted, and a bunch of world conquering androids were taking that away from them.
“Thank you,” Deke said.  “Thank you for trusting me with her.  I know that couldn’t have been easy and I know how important it is to keep them both safe.”
Jemma stayed huddled in his arms but her sobs had stopped.  “I can’t tell the others, if they were to get captured or the Chronicoms were to learn about her and Fitz…” the words dying on her lips.  Deke didn’t need them, the world be damned, Fitzsimmons would give it all up to protect her.
And Deke would too.
“You have me,” he said “you won’t carry this alone.  And when we kick these Chronicoms asses I’m going to buy her the biggest castle in Scotland I can find and a whole stable of ponies for her to ride.  You guys are going to get to happily ever after.”
Whatever it takes, he added to himself.
End

Baby, you are huge!
Summary: Y/N is pregnant, and it’s starting to show. Deke is on an undercover mission, and he’s been gone for five months by now. Needless to say, even the baby is happy to know that daddy is back.
Characters: Y/N, Deke Shaw, Jemma Simmons (mentioned), a bABY.
Warnings: Mentions of sex. I think that’s it.
Pairing: Y/N x Deke.
A/N: This lil bitch right here is addicted to fluff, and Deke will be my crush forever. And, as much as I don’t really like kids, babies make cute noises, so this idea came up to my mind. Enjoy yourself!
It had taken me by surprise when I saw the two pink lines in the test. It took two weeks for finally telling him. I was nervous, sweaty and trembling. I could remember like it was yesterday.
“Hey sweetheart, you wanted to see me? Is something wrong?”
“No, everything is fine, I just need to tell you something”.
He furrowed his eyebrows. You were never like that. You seemed nervous, and usually, the nervous person on the relationship was him. When you started to search for something on your purse, that's when he really got worried.
“Honey, did I… Did I do something wrong?”
I looked at him, giggling a little. He was always so cautious, so delicate towards me, watching him like this was kinda fun. But I had to give him the great news.
“No, you didn't. Actually, you did one of the most beautiful things that can be done in your life”.
Now, he was confused. How, when and what the hell did he do? He couldn't remember doing something like that.
“Sorry, but I don't think I know what are you talking about”.
I approached him and tangled my hands in his neck, giving him a little smirk.
“Do you remember some weeks ago when that accident happened?”
The accident was actually something kinda embarrassing for both of us. Every time we had sex, we used condoms or I was on the pill. This time, we didn't use either. Mine had finished that day, and we were out of condoms. Needless to say, I forgot to take the pill on the other day because I was busy taking another thing…
“Yes?”
He was truly confused. Of course, he remembered very vividly about the happy incident, but he couldn't figure out what the hell could have happened.
“Sweetheart, can you tell me already?”
I took a deep breath. Maybe, he wasn't ready. Maybe he didn't want that. But he deserved to know the truth.
“You are going to be a dad” I whispered, my voice trembling a little.
He took some time with the same expression, and when he finally understood what was happening, he looked at me wide-eyed.
“I'm… I'm gonna be a father. You… Are you pregnant?”
I nodded happily and he laughed, taking me in his arms and spinning me around, screaming ‘I'm gonna be a father’ and ‘You are pregnant’.
“I'm the happiest man in this world, you know that? God, I love you so much. Hello there” He knelt and pushed my shirt a little, revealing my belly. “I'm your dad. And I came from the future. And your mother is beautiful. And you are going to be beautiful…”
I rested my hand on his shoulders, letting him talk to the baby a little more. Sometimes a giggled at something he said, but besides that, I stood in complete silence, and he talked to my belly for a lot more time.
I smiled, remembering that day. When I was one month at the pregnancy, Deke was scaled to an undercover mission. I am retired from S.H.I.E.L.D., but Deke kept working there with the rest of the team. This undercover didn't have time to end so it could last weeks or months. Maybe a year. He wouldn't be able to get home in the middle time, and it took a long time to make him accept the job. But I convinced him. It was important to him get the respect of the other members, and having a real job was good for him.
It had been five months since I have seen him for the last time. Five months with an empty bed, no company in meals and loneliness almost all the time. The only companies I have are Jemma, that comes around once every week, and the baby. I am showing now, and sometimes it passes hours just talking to the little life inside me. And now, cooking some pancakes for breakfast, I can't help thinking about how Deke is doing all alone out there.
A soft noise came from the door, and an animated voice shouted from there.
“Sweetheart, I'm home! God, I missed you so much! I don't know how I…”
I got out of the kitchen with a plate for the pancakes, finally seeing him. His hair looked bigger, with his beard and he had dark circles around his eyes. And he looked surprised. Weirdly. His eyes weren't on my face, and he wasn't coming to hug me. I left the plate in the nearest table and got closer.
“Hey, babe… Is something wrong? You look a little… Pale”.
“You are showing… When did you start to show? Sweetheart, you are huge! I have never seen…”
“A pregnant woman before?”
He moved his head and knelt in front of my belly, pushing my shirt up, and making goosebumps show on my skin as the cold air embraced me. He touched my belly so delicately, it was like almost haven’t touched me at all. Suddenly, a wide smile broke into his face, and he teared up a bit. I expected anything, a hug, a kiss, even sex, but Deke tearing up and getting all emotional was the last of them. Wide-eyed, I placed a hand on his hair feeling how much his locks got less soft than before.
“Babe, are you okay? It’s just my belly, you knew it was going to get bigger with time, why are you so surprised?”.
His head snapped back at me, his eyes wide with shook. And weirdly, he looked slightly offended.
“Y/N L/N, you have the most precious thing that you could have, a literal life growing inside you, and I am the father. And you never looked more stunning in your entire life”.
I giggled, blushing a little. Deke always had a way to make me blush.
“Besides, I never really saw a pregnant woman before, all the babies were given for just a selected group of people. I think they put something on our food. Seeing a pregnant woman itself is amazing, seeing you pregnant is even better”.
Now my hands rested on his cheeks, and he smiled lazily.
“Wanna talk to the baby?”
He got excited and rushed to put his mouth against my belly. It made me giggle silently and rest my hands in his shoulders.
“Hi small human, daddy is back. Did you take good care of mommy? I hope so. I’m not gonna leave any more”.
He kept talking to the baby, but a strange feeling made me stop to pay attention. A slight discomfort came from my belly, and it started to become stronger. Then, it hit me: The baby was kicking.
“Deke” I whispered.
“... And you are going to have siblings, if your mom is happy with it, and…”.
“Deke” I whispered again, but this time I tapped his shoulders.
He looked up at me concerned, but I just took his hands in mine and waited. Soon, the baby kicked again, and we both grinned like maniacs. Deke got up, hands still on my belly and rested his forehead against mine, tears roaming his eyes. Then, the kiss I’ve missed for all those months finally came, and I felt my heart warm up again.
“You already know if it’s a boy or a girl?”.
“No. I want it to be a surprise”.
Our smile only grew wider, while the baby kicked happily once more.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - ‘Code Yellow’ Review
Tumblr media
Keller: "Heard a body came in. We know the cause of death?" Yo-Yo: "No, but if they called us, it means it's not old age."
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to experiment with format and delivers another atypical episode. Like the previous one, "Code Yellow" places the characters on a brand new set where they are allowed to have some fun, is more or less structured as a standalone episode and heavily relies on humor. It's not as successful as "Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson," though, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't entertained for the most of it. Was it flawed? Yes, but it was also fun.
Let's start with the flaws. The events happening in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s HQ were the heavier part of the episode, but to have those events unfold the way they did the writers relied on plot holes and characters behaving inconsistently. First of all, why wasn't John Doe's body isolated as soon as it got to the HQ? Dr. Benson states during the autopsy that the body is flooded with an inert neurotoxin, but what if it wasn't inert? Benson, Mack, Yo-Yo and Keller would've been exposed and doomed already. Then, regarding the bird found inside the corpse, Benson presumes that the knife stabbed on it gave birth to it. Wouldn't it be much more logical to presume that the knife killed the bird instead of concluding that the knife was some sort of bio-weapon? I'm not a scientist and my first thought was that the knife was keeping the bird dead, contained or whatever.
As soon as Benson takes the knife out of the bird and it awakens, Yo-Yo, a speedster, doesn't stab it back in two milliseconds. The bird flies around inside the lab, sometimes low enough so that Yo-Yo can catch it, only she doesn't. Later when the bird starts going inside Keller through his mouth, Yo-Yo has more than enough time to take the bird off of him, and again she doesn't. One could argue that in that moment she was paralyzed with fear, but that's not Yo-Yo at all. Here we have one of the plot holes I dislike the most: a superpowered person not using their superpower because the plot demands so. That could have been easily avoided by keeping Yo-Yo out of those scenes altogether. So simple: have her arrive on the lab's floor when Keller is already doomed.
Tumblr media
I might be evil, but I thought this was a gorgeous shot.
As of now, I'm not sure what the writers have prepared for Mack and Yo-Yo, or what was the point of introducing Keller into the mix and taking him out so fast. We barely saw Yo-Yo and Keller as a couple, so it's unclear just how much this is supposed to damage her, but at the very least I liked that, after being so inert for most of the episode, she was the one who killed zombie Keller. It's consistent with the fact that she has the guts to do what must be done, even at great personal cost. So I can appreciate the conclusion, even if the path to get there was rocky. Where the writing failed, the actors more than delivered and I found myself caring about Keller for a few seconds.
Over at Deke's company, the writers stretch their comedy muscles, and not just in the script but in front of the camera as well. Maurissa Tancharoen debuts as Sequoia and, boy, did she make a good job. She might consider acting on a sitcom because she's got the chops. Sequoia was a hit.
I understand, however, why some fans thought the comedy in this episode was totally out of place. Or that the first four episodes haven't felt like "real S.H.I.E.L.D." It made me think of how Alias's fans (myself included) reacted to the fourth season of that show, which ditched its trademark complicated arcs for standalone stories. Even when the standalone episodes were good (and some of them were really good), it felt as if the "real story" hadn't begun. The "real story" has begun on S.H.I.E.L.D., though, it's just being delivered with a different style. That's not a bad thing, and I believe that the entertainment value of the past two episodes will be more appreciated later, but the show will get some criticism if it tries something new and it misses the mark. Having Deke break the fourth wall for no good reason is an example of missing the mark, but I'm forgiving of any episode that gives us stuff like this:
Tumblr media
That whole bit with Sequoia thinking that Sarge and his team were mo-cap actors cracked me up, and I respect a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and allows its villains to be part of the comedy too. Hey, I grew up watching Buffy. To be honest, the humor in "Code Yellow" is a mixed bag, but all in all, it entertains more than fails. When fake, seductive Daisy first appears, it's a fail. When she reappears as part of Deke's ploy to defeat Jaco, it's clever and funny, especially after Mack's horrified reaction and Deke's proposal to keep his mouth shut. Rocky buildup, good punchline.
And in the midst of all that comedy and drama, the arc story moved forward nicely, even if the writers wanted to keep us from concluding the obvious. We now know that Sarge and his team are after specific people that don't belong to this reality, which is why Deke accidentally became a target, and they might not be so evil after all. Sarge kept May alive and seemed somehow attracted to her, intrigued at least, which makes me wonder if Sarge is indeed a version of Coulson from another dimension, a brainwashed one that couldn't help but feel a connection with May. Now that May has been kidnapped (again!), we will have a chance to find out.
Intel and Assets
- May going into battle without guns is another writing flaw. We've seen May with guns before and the situation clearly demanded the use of one.
- What's with Dr. Benson? He told Yo-Yo to run, but barely moved. Does he have suicidal tendencies?
- Since Deke is now super rich, can't he fund S.H.I.E.L.D.?
- I liked Trevor Khan, both the character and the name. That's a sexy name, isn't it? Or at least the actor made it sound sexy.
- I loved the bit with the programmer so lost inside his own world that shit was going down in the company and he didn't even notice.
- This is the first episode of the series without Elizabeth Henstridge, which means that only Chloe Bennet and Clark Gregg have appeared in all episodes of the series. However, with Henstridge gone for the hour, Bennet playing a fake version of Daisy, and Coulson dead, none of the main characters have appeared in all episodes.
- Alien parasite bird is very The X-Files. Metallic stalactites coming out of a person's body, very The Expanse.
Quotes
Jaco: "If you consider the infinite complexity of nature, maybe 'strange' is the norm."
Dr. Benson: "Well, this is the strangest autopsy I've performed since... the last one."
Mack: "If this guy wants to take out Deke Shaw, he's gonna have to wait in line." Hee.
Deke: "This is Mack. He's..." Sequoia: "He's large and muscular." Deke: "...an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D."
A fun episode, hurt by some plot holes. Let's go with two and a half out of four knifes.

Fanfic I don’t have a name for right now but here it is.
Fandom: Agents of Shield. Summary: Fitz-Simmons get kidnapped on a mission and Deke finally tells them the truth. Word Count: 2038 POV: Deke Shaw [Will be posted to my ao3 account soon]
Deke bounced his leg up and down while leaning against the banisters in the Lighthouse’s make-shift control room. Mack and Yo-yo had been working on her arms, Coulson hadn’t come back and May had taken Fitz-Simmons on a mission, leaving him in the control room with Daisy, was was running backup.
He half payed attention to Daisy speaking to them over coms, He heard May and Simmons, but never Fitz. Now that he thought about it, he had barely heard him since… it happened. And by it he meant watching his own grandfather, a man his mother had loved and admired, basically torture someone who was his friend. Then learn there was so much more to it and it was one whole messy area of grey he never thought he had to deal with.
And that was saying something, considering he spent his life in the grey area, doing terrible things for profit or to play ‘the long game’.
But that didn’t stop him from being any less worried about them. He and Simmons where his grandparents and yes, he did want to ensure his existence, but in the short time he knew them, he had grown to love them because they were family. And it was nice having family again.
He sure as hell didn’t want to loose them.
Daisy had been silent for over five minutes. So he filled it. “They’re going to be okay, right?”
“I told you, have faith. Or a xanax. They’ll be fine.” She had been quieter since it happened. She was constantly uneasy around Fitz and it was understandable. But if he was being honest, he didn’t know what to think. It was obviously a grey area and it hurt anybody's head when they thought too long about it.
He nodded. “Yeah, I know. Just no one’s spoken in like, ages. So…”
“It’s called radio-silence, Deke.”
He decided to bite back the ‘Sorry for being from the future’ comments and just continued to bounce his leg and half listen to the conversation over coms. Eventually, Daisy told him to go to the kitchen and calm down, which he had no problems with doing. He still had some Zima left over.
He lost track of time while ignoring his own worries. It wasn’t until he made his way back to the control room, sipping on his fourth bottle of Zima, that he found out they were back. Since they were discussing the mission, they had to have just come back.
Mack and Yo-yo were there, Yo-yo finally being able to wear her arms for extended periods of time, it seemed. Coulson was back and standing next to May, who was explaining the intel they had gotten. Daisy was still where she was when he left, but had gotten and snack and made herself more comfortable. Which left…
He waited until they had finished covering the intel to ask his question; “Where are Fitz and Simmons?”
Everyone glanced around at each other before Coulson stepped forward to speak. From the look on his face, he suspected it was bad news. He took one last sip from his bottle before placing it on the table and going closer to Coulson and the others.
“Well?”
“They were taken. By Hale and her people.”
He swallowed and muttered. “And you let it?”
“Pardon?” He hadn’t heard.
“And you guys let it happen!?” He yelled, pushing Coulson backwards.
Everyone simultaneously yelled for him to calm down as he pushed Coulson a second time. He took a deep breath and steadied his balance before beginning to speak again. “Do not tell me to calm down.” He spun and moved to a point in the room where he could see everyone. “Any of you.”
“You may not want to, but you need to.” He looked to who was speaking. Mack. “How many of those have you had anyways?” He asked when he spotted the Zima on the table.
“3 and a half. I’m not drunk. Just pissed that you would let my- them get kidnapped!” He hoped that no one pointed out his slip-up. How would he dig himself out of that one without telling the truth?
Thankfully, no one did.
“Well, we needed to get this intel here. And besides, it’ll be easier to track them from here.” May said, keeping expressions off her face. That made the anger boil over.
“Well you need to hurry up!” He snapped, banging his hand on the table next to him. “You know the thing that I hate most about this? Is that I bet you guys actually understand how I feel and you would still tell me to calm down and be cold and calculating!”
Nobody said a word. “Scratch that. I hate that Fitz-Simmons got kidnapped more.” He banged his hand on the table again before pushing a box off. His mum always said her father would do whenever he was angry. Fitz would do that whenever he got angry.
“Why do you care about them so much anyways?”
Shit.
Luckily he was able to come up with an… alright lie. “Because I’m, human? You know, humans that aren’t superspies usually actually express how much they care for people.”
“For starters,” Daisy began, moving her chair so she was facing him. “You may not be a superspy, but a few weeks in that future told me that you would’ve had to make the hard call time and time again. You learn to compartmentalize your emotions to get the job done, right?”
He didn’t say anything.
“And second, you barely know them. Yeah, you probably care about them. It’s clear you’ve gotten close to them, especially Simmons, but we’ve known them for longer so being human? I’m not buying it.”
He sighed and grabbed his bottle of Zima, drinking the rest in one go. He didn’t plan to tell them this way. Hell, he hadn’t even told Fitz yet. But, he figured he had to now. He sighed and crossed his arms, keeping the bottle in his hand. “I know at least one person in here has lost their parents at a young age yeah?”
He looked down at the ground before continuing. “I’ve said my mum was killed when I was nine. My dad a few years later. I had to survive myself in that future for years without a family and barely any friends. I had Tess and Virgil and that’s it.”
“Imagine finding out you have family that’s still alive and right…” He trailed off.
“That happened to me. They both turned out to be murderers so…” Daisy shrugged as she trailed off as well.
“But before you knew that. How did you feel when you found out they were alive and well and you could be with them, even just for a little bit?” He was standing tall now, looking at Daisy.
Everyone turned to look at Daisy. “I was happy. I felt like a part of me that was missing had been filled. I ended up choosing them over SHIELD. Only for a while, but I did. Because I had missed out on so much in my childhood and I felt I had an opportunity to… catch up.”
“Yeah.” Everyone turned to him, but he kept his eyes on Daisy. “I felt that way when I realised.”
Everyone looked around. “What does this have to do with Fitz-Si-” Daisy cut herself off as realisation, mixed with confusion, dawned on everyone's faces.
“Is that even possible?”
“I mean, the time seems right if my maths is right.”
“It may not be.”
“Deke?” Yo-yo was looking at him now. “What does this have to do with Fitz-Simmons?” She was moving the fingers on her arm, probably trying to get used to them. He swallowed.
He really didn’t plan for this.
“They’re family. My mum used to tell me about them all the time. How her dad never gave up. How he was a baby when he’s sick, and how he would always carry the world on his shoulders… And she would tell me how her mother was always there for him. How he took care of him when he was sick and help carry the world when he refused to give up. She would always tell me how much she wished I could taste that special little sandwich that she used to make for her father and her when she was a kid. The-”
“Prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella sandwich with a hint of homemade pesto aioli.” Daisy finished with a smile on her face.
May chuckled, a small smile on her face too. “I remember listening to Fitz tell you how Ward threw it out when he got it out on a mission. And him making you swear to never tell Simmons.”
Daisy’s laugh sounded close to a sob, but she cleared throat and continued to speak. “And I never did.”
Deke began to speak again as everyone let the bittersweetness settle into the room. “My mum used to tell me about him. Grant Ward. She said he turned out to be an asshole, but they had both had some good times with him before he turned on them. Now that I know you guys and I’ve realised who Fitz and Simmons are, I remember more stories my mum told me about you guys.”
They all looked to him, waiting for him to continue.
He chuckled. “She would tell me different stories about you guys she had gotten from her parents when I was falling asleep, or having breakfast, or…” He chuckled again. He remembered all the times he had nightmares, all the times he was so terrified of the Kree he couldn’t stop shaking. How she would tell him stories about “the Team” because she knew those stories where his favourite.
“She told me about their friend who had a shotgun axe and wasn’t afraid of anything. How he looked like he could kill anyone but was really a soft teddy bear, and another friend who had robotic arms and had a nickname because of her powers, who never gave up her faith even through the darkest times. She would tell me about how much admiration her mum had for the man who led their team from the beginning. And how that man became a father-figure to her dad.”
Coulson had a soft smile on his face.
“She would tell me about the women who lead alongside him. How she was a complete badass and had plenty of stories to prove it. How she understood nearly every emotion and situation they experienced even though she would never show it.”
He hesitated, looking towards Daisy.
“And she would always tell me about you. Not as Quake, or the Destroyer of Worlds. But as Daisy. Their best friend and sister, who was as strong as they come. Who had been through so much hardships but always came back from it. One time, when I was nearly asleep, she said something that only came back to me recently. She said; ‘He would tell me the one thing he regretted most in his life was letting himself hurt her.’. She had no idea what he meant by that. But I think we do.”
Daisy wiped a tear from her eye. “Yeah,” her voice was barely above a whisper.
“They’re my grandparents. And I grew up with their stories. I don’t think I would’ve survived the Lighthouse without them.”
The bittersweetness still sat in the room.
“I have no idea how I didn’t figure it out sooner. I mean, you were all right under my noses and I feel so stupid.” He shrugged. “But that’s that. And now I need to find them. Because I have a chance to be with family and I don’t want to lose that.”
“I get it. I wanted to be with my parents forever but…” She swallowed before continuing. “If I can help you get what I couldn’t, then that’s good enough for me.”
