Batman fun fact! Did you know that Scarecrow’s toxin doesn’t always cause fear? Sometimes it does the opposite! In Detective Comics #571, he wields a variant that completely inhibits the biochemical fear response, preventing people from feeling any concern for themselves or using basic common sense. He runs a racket administering it to star athletes, who take huge risks and get badly injured. Then they’re willing to cough up a lot for an antidote. Batman and Robin - here Jason Todd - catch on, but Bruce is dosed with the reverse fear toxin; since his intelligence is his greatest strength, being too overconfident and reckless to think twice about anything makes him his own worst enemy.

This premise was adapted in the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Never Fear”. There we see that with no fear of losing his moral integrity, Bruce becomes cold and merciless to criminals. Robin - here Tim Drake - has to catch somebody he leaves to fall off a building, tie him up to stop him endangering himself and others and give him the antidote to prevent him murdering Scarecrow.

But in the comic book, Jason is kidnapped by Scarecrow. (He gets gassed, and hallucinates Bruce dying and telling him that it was his fault.) He isn’t around to keep Bruce in check as he goes to rescue him through a series of death traps that he can’t resist cutting it as close as possible in. So how does Bruce not go off the deep end? How does he not lose sight of what’s important? Not lose himself?

Because even a drug designed to shut down stress at the most fundamental level can’t overpower his true worst fear. The Dark Knight might feel fearless…

but a parent never is.

Bruno got himself hurt, again. Nothing life threatening this time, for once, but still, he’s always so infuriatingly casual about it. Whether he’s burned his finger cooking their breakfast or been shot, it’s always, “It’s not that bad”, “Anything for you, love”, “I know you’ll take care of me”.

She ought to leave him here dripping blood from his arm. Tell him that no, she won’t take care of him, not if he’s going to keep being an idiot and taking stupid risks because he still thinks he’s expendable, even after all the times she’s made it clear that he’s far from it.

But she knows that he’d just accept it and bandage himself up. They’re both used to it - being alone, having to look after themselves because there’s no one else who cares enough to do it. They’re more used to that than to having each other to count on. She never wants him to feel that loneliness again, to not be able to trust that she’ll be there.

So she kneels in the dirt in front of him, wrapping a clean white bandage around his arm and grumbling under her breath. “Idiot. Why can’t we go on one mission…just one…without you coming back bleeding? If I didn’t know any better I’d think you enjoyed this.” Yanking a knife from its holster at her hip, she cuts off the bandage and places the remainder of the roll back in Bruno’s bag.

“Kamaria love, as much as I love to hear you speak Vaya, it makes me nervous…especially when it starts with istulta, which I know very well by now means idiot…and you have a knife in your hand.” He grins at her, but it’s clear it annoys him just a little to not know what she’s saying about him. “Are you threatening to kill me?”

Tucking the end of the bandage in, she turns a glare - and the tip of her knife - on him. “I ought to be threatening to kill you, but no. You’re too precious to me.” Her expression and tone remain angry, and she leans in a bit closer. “You’re the kindest, gentlest, most loving man I’ve ever met, plus you’re incredibly handsome, and sometimes I want to just…kiss you.” She has to fight to keep from blushing at her own words. “And if you won’t stop scaring me half to death getting hurt like this, then I can pay you back a little by making you think I’m plotting your death.”

With that, she stands, shaking the knife at him one more time before slamming it back into its sheath. Bruno’s eyes are comically wide, and it’s an effort not to break her demeanor and smile at his reaction.

“Ah…alright then. That was…slightly terrifying.” He glances down at the bandage on his arm. “Thanks for this, anyway. And for not stabbing me…yet. Uh…would you like to take a turn hunting for dinner tonight? Seems like you could use to…take out your frustrations. Preferably on something other than me.”

She just rolls her eyes at him. He knows she would never actually stab him…much. Going hunting does sound like a good distraction from the day’s events, though, plus the man doesn’t need to be using that arm anytime soon.

She points a stern finger at him, speaking in Common this time. “Don’t hurt yourself again while I’m gone, understand? That also means leave the fire alone, I’ll handle it when I return. You need to rest.”

His lips turn up into a smile. “Understood, ma’am.”

im watching waynes rebroadcast of the first cyberkids stream and im losing my mind at the intro for the american kid in episode 2 where he pretends to be a multiple time grand prix winner and gets in this handmade cart only to immediately crash and fake commentate "its incredible he survived such a crash!" implying in universe that this sweet little blonde haired cherubic kid is

1. prolific enough of a formula one viewer to know how deadly the sport was at the time and

2. probably watched a shitton of drivers crash and die live on tv

which would surprise me more if it werent for the fact that the pilot had the villain shoot up an alien bar

CURRENTLY WATCHING:

1. KinnPorsche

I'm almost done with the show and am I enjoying it? Yes. Am I obsessed with it? No. Apo is an absolute revelation, Tankhun is a joy and Vegas and Pete are giving me that good angst but there's too many crazy tonal shifts, corny lines and high school boys with guitars (yes even one is too many) in my dark mafia show.

2. Vice Versa

I didn't know this about myself but apparently I'm such a hardcore Nanon and Ohm simp that I'm going to subject myself to a show with Jimmy as the lead. And find it hilarious? Interesting plot wise? Wuf. I blame Nanon's eyes.

3. Rupaul's Drag Race

If I'm not watching Drag Race you can assume me or RuPaul has finally died. There's not a show on earth that allows me to turn off my brain better than this one, it's so comforting that it's like pasta carbonara. And god knows there's always a new season of drag race to be watched.

STARTING SOON

4. Stranger things

Technically I already started the newest season but then I read about the thing that happened to Eddie and now I'm.... preparing myself for the pain before I start again.

5. Triage

Time loops you say? Tan and Bun cameo you say? Sign me up I say.

6. Ms. Marvel

Every time one of these shows drops it feels like homework I need to do in order to get to go and watch the next movie but this one has been getting such good buzz I might actually get to it without it feeling like a chore.

REWATCHING (my go-to's or recents):

1. Our flag means death

This is such a feel good show, I rarely rewatch stuff but it just makes me so immensely happy. It makes me laugh so hard I'm crying and then it really makes me cry. And with the state of the world currently? Yeah I need stuff that makes me happy.

2. Bad buddy

Speaking of stuff that makes me happy. Check for my pulse if I stop obsessing over Pat and Pran.

3. Succession

Been binging this one with my friends again and yeah unfortunately I think it really is as good as everyone says it is. Every time I get to season 3 finale I scream out loud.

4. The Umbrella Academy

Watched season 3 and started watching from the beginning again. This is a quirky one and I like it.

5. Jane the Virgin

If I had a guilty pleasure show it would be this one. I don't know why but for the past five years whenever I feel like absolute shit, in my lowest of lowest, this is the show I go to. Something about that telenovela and magical realism I guess.

LOOKING FORWARD TO:

1. Moonlight chicken

Chanting to manifest Earth and Mix in an adult drama like an obsessive person that I am.

2. Gap the series

Gimme me my gl or gimme death!!!! I'm vibrating with excitement over these messy lesbians.

3. Between Us

We have been waiting for this a thousand years and in between my excitement has dimmed a little but if we ever end up getting this I am ready.

4. The Eclipse

Khaotung with First? I don't need more to be convinced.

I haven't been watching a lot of things lately so I'm actually in need of recommendations. I'm slowly trying to get back into bl's so I'm paging @elnotwoods, @bengiyo and @kyr-kun-chan for those.
