Spectra sucks. Dunno what else to tell you. (ao3) (masterpost)

Part 3: Chapter 1

“So,” Danny said as they approached Casper High, “today's the first day with the shrink?”

Kwan groaned, then clutched at his side as his rib ached. He’d been cleared to return to school, but was supposed to limit his activity. No gym, or stairs, and Danny was carrying his backpack for now. It was more annoying than regular school. “Don't remind me,” he said. “Let's talk about your creepy half-ghost uncle again instead.”

“Low blow, dude. Also, definitely not my uncle.”

“That's right, he's your future stepdad!”

Danny shoved lightly at him, careful to avoid his bad side. “How did you manage to go even lower?”

“It's a talent,” he said. “Besides, there is at least some good news from the whole Vlad-thing.”

“Oh yeah? What?”

“You probably aren't going to destabilize and dissolve any time soon!”

“Well, gee, thanks for reminding me of that possibility.”

“Always happy to help.”

They lapsed into silence as they crested the hill. Kwan's appointment was scheduled for immediately after school; his detentions with Lancer had been postponed on account of both the other teacher's continued hospital stay and Tyson dying. Thus, Principal Ishiyama had said he could use that time instead for his therapy.

Ugh. Therapy.

“So how long are you gonna see her for?”

“Who?”

“The shrink.”

“Right,” Kwan said. “I convinced my mom to let me have just a thirty minute appointment to start.”

“Cool,” Danny said. “I'll be waiting? At the big oak?”

Something warm bloomed in Kwan's chest. Dash would never have waited for him, even if he'd asked. Danny always waited, after detention and now with this stupid counseling. Maybe it was because they were both each other's only friends, but still. It was... nice. “Yeah,” he said, voice breaking in a way that he could only hope Danny hadn't noticed. “I'll find you after.”

Walking into first period gym with a doctor’s note, Kwan still couldn’t help but smile.

“You're in a good mood,” Valerie said at their lab table, measuring out the baking soda.

Kwan startled, twinging his still-healing rib, then looked around to see who she was talking to.

“I'm talking to you, dumbass.”

“Since when?”

“I can always stop.”

Kwan raised an eyebrow. “Then why start at all?”

“Well, with... recent events—I don't know.” Valerie stared at her hands and dropped her voice. “Paulina lost it on Dash. For crying at Tyson's thing.”

“Yeah,” Kwan said with a wince. “I kinda figured.”

“Yeah, me too. But then, I started thinking... what the fuck kind of relationship do we have where that was expected?” Valerie sniffed. “She wouldn't even let me talk, y'know? I had a lot to say.”

“Val...” Kwan reached for her hand.

She jerked it back. “I'm not saying you're right or anything. Just—you knew him. And her. And you're not dating her. So.”

“So I was your best option to complain to?”

“I guess. I'm not gonna abandon her. Them.” The like you did was blessedly unspoken. “But, I don't know. Maybe—maybe I don't really blame you anymore.”

“Okay,” Kwan said. “But you can't talk to me if you want to stay her friend. You know that, right?”

“Obviously.” Valerie rolled her eyes. “But we're lab partners. We have to talk sometimes. For class.”

Kwan hid a grin. “Of course.”

“Of course.”

Valerie finished measuring out the materials and passed them to Kwan. “So,” she said, “what’s got you in a good mood?”

“Nothing!” Kwan squeaked. He could feel the heat rising to his face.

“Oh?” Valerie leaned toward him, a teasing smile dancing around her lips. “Did you finally boink Fenton?”

“Boink?”

“So you did.”

“No!” Kwan waved his hands around desperately. “We’re just friends.”

Valerie gave him a calculating stare. “Hm,” she said. “Too bad.”

“You want us to—”

“Me? I don’t care. You, however, clearly do.”

Somehow, his face got even hotter. “I don’t!”

“Kwan,” Valerie said, “you are somehow even more obvious about this than you were about your crush on Dash, and I watched you give him a massage once just because he mentioned his shoulders were a little stiff.”

“What—I didn’t—”

“Kwan. Kwan, look at me.” Valerie leaned down and made sure that she was looking Kwan in the eyes. “Did you… not know you had a crush on Dash?”

“I—” Kwan stopped himself and thought back to the way his eyes had always sought out Dash first and foremost whenever he entered a room. The way he reached for Dash’s hands and his arms whenever he could get away with it. The beating of his heart when Dash smiled.

“Fuck,” he said. “I liked Dash?”

Valerie bent over with laughter. “Congratulations!” she said, gasping for breath. “You’re officially the last to know. Well, aside from Dash.”

Kwan buried his head in his hands. “Oh my god. I had a crush on Dash.”

He felt an awkward patting on his back. “Yeah. You sure did.”

“And… you think I have one on Danny?”

“Dude. You should see your face when you look at him. Or think about him. It’s disgusting.” She fished out her phone and turned on the front facing camera, shoving it in his face. “You’re literally making it right now, look.”

The Kwan on the camera mostly looked confused at having a camera shoved in his face.

“Okay, so you look constipated now,” Valerie said. “Whatever. Just trust me. You looked soft as hell like two seconds ago.”

Kwan thought about it. He thought about long nights, staying up and trying to finish homework except they kept getting distracted by trying to one-up each other’s jokes. He thought about how Danny watched football with him even though he didn’t understand it, how he tried to play Doomed even though he sucked because it made Danny happy. He thought about Danny, saving his life from the ectopus, from the Lunch Lady, from the shapeshifting gorilla ghost.

He thought about Danny smiling. He thought about Danny laughing. He thought about the warmth in his chest whenever he saw Danny.

Well. Shit.

“There it is again!” Valerie pulled back out her phone just as Kwan buried his face back in his hands. “Dammit, are you conspiring against me getting a picture of your smitten face?”

“Valerie,” Kwan said through his hands, “I’ve got a crush on Danny.”

“Once again,” Valerie said, “congrats on being the last to know.”

“As glad as I am to see you two talking again,” Ms. Okorafor said, startling Kwan and Valerie, who had both missed her approach, “I do need you to do the lab today.”

“Right,” Kwan said.

“Yeah, sure,” Valerie said.

Like a spell had been broken, they went back to doing their lab in silence. Still, Kwan caught Valerie’s eye from across the table and she smiled, just a little.

It felt like progress.

Kwan hadn’t expected to wait to see Dr. Spectra, but the student before him had still been inside when he arrived in her office. So he was stuck in one of the uncomfortable plastic chairs right outside, with an odd little man with gray hair and green eyes staring him down.

Kwan shifted in his seat, then groaned as his rib ached again. Right. Keep his torso steady.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the door opened and out stepped… Dash.

Dash spotted Kwan, then turned his nose up. Dash wasn’t having doubts like Valerie, then.

Still, with Dash pointedly ignoring him, Kwan had the opportunity to study his face. He’d had most of the day to come to terms with his old crush on Dash, but now he wanted to see if those feelings were still there or not. He didn’t think they were, but he hadn’t known about them to begin with, so his judgment was clearly not the best.

But instead of renewed feelings, he found tear tracks on Dash’s cheek.

Right. Of course. Dash was here to talk about Tyson. That made sense, because the two were still friends. Unlike Kwan and Tyson, who hadn’t spoken in over a month.

Kwan bit back a sigh of frustration. Why had Mom insisted he be here, instead of letting someone else who actually needed it take this time slot? He didn’t really understand why she was so insistent that something had to be wrong.

Whatever. He was here, and he’d promised, so he’d do it. He just didn’t have to be happy about it, was all.

He stood up as Dash walked out, waved on by the odd secretary. He knocked on the door twice and a voice called out, “Come in, please!”

The room itself looked like any other office. He’d half-expected to see one of those long couches designed for lying down like he’d seen in movies, but this was a public school. They would never be able to afford that. Instead, there were two more of those uncomfortable plastic chairs right in front of Dr. Spectra’s desk, which was scrupulously clean. The walls were covered in generic motivational posters. The one right behind Dr. Spectra’s head had a picture of a young oak tree with BELEAF IN YOURSELF written on the bottom.

And, of course, Dr. Spectra herself sat at the desk in a high-backed office chair. Her hair was bright red and her eyes the same shade of green as her assistant. Maybe they were related somehow?

“Hi there,” Dr. Spectra said, gesturing for Kwan to sit down. “You’re Kwan, right?”

Kwan dropped in the chair in front of her desk, barely restraining from rolling his eyes. “Yeah,” he said. “That’s my name.”

“Lovely to meet you, honey.” Dr. Spectra looked at him from over her glasses. “Now, why are you here today?”

“Because my mom thinks I have problems.”

“Do you?”

Kwan shrugged. “Doesn’t everyone? Mine aren’t any worse than anyone else’s though, so I don’t get the point of this.”

Dr. Spectra hummed. “Well, therapy doesn’t have to be just about feeling better. It can be about being better, too.”

“What do you—”

“I mean, I’ve heard from your classmates who’ve come to see me that you recently lost all your friends? Had a fight with them?”

“Well, yeah, but—”

“Including the poor student that passed recently?”

Kwan flinched. “I guess you could say that.”

“Oh, sweetie,” Dr. Spectra cooed. “I don’t mean anything by it. Just mentioning it because I thought you might have some… regrets.”

Regrets? Sure, he had plenty. Mostly about being a dick since the start of middle school. But he didn’t regret dumping his old friends. They deserved it, and he needed to be better.

“My friends sucked,” he said after a long moment. “I wanted to be better. They were the ones who chose not to change. That’s on them, not me.”

“Of course, of course,” Dr. Spectra said. “You’re on a journey of self-discovery! Very commendable.” Her smile stretched across her teeth.

Kwan bit his lip to keep from sighing. So far, this grief counselor wasn’t impressing him much.

“I just thought that maybe,” she said, “you felt like you could have done something to stop this tragedy from happening.”

Kwan stiffened. “Why—what makes you say that?”

“Oh, it’s very common. Survivor’s guilt. I thought you might feel like since you stopped being friends with poor Tyson, you weren’t there with him the day he died. Maybe you could’ve saved him if you were.”

“Why would I think that?!” Kwan’s fingers dug into his arms. If possible, Dr. Spectra’s smile stretched even wider.

“Oh dear, of course it isn’t true. I just thought it would be a reasonable response to a horrible situation. That’s all.”

Could Kwan have done more? He was at the mall that day, after all. He had advance warning. He’d gone along with his mom, and let her take Danny away, instead of letting Danny help. He hadn’t just not saved Tyson, he’d helped prevent the only person who could have saved Tyson. Mom hadn’t seen for herself how useless the Fentons were, but Kwan had. Kwan knew that Danny was their best chance, and Kwan had packed him away in the car anyway.

Acid burbled from his stomach into his throat. He lurched forward and vomited into the trash can at the side of Dr. Spectra’s desk. His rib burned.

A hand rubbed at his back. “That’s it, dear,” Dr. Spectra said. “You’re okay.”

Kwan coughed and spat out the remnants of bile. The taste was almost bad enough to make him barf again, so he poured some water in his mouth and swished it around before spitting it into the trash along with his vomit.

“Oh,” Dr. Spectra said. “I wish you hadn't—I mean, I feel bad for the janitor who has to clean that up.” She laughed and waved her hand as though waving that idea off. “Of course, not your fault, dearie.”

Mom was so stressed now, because he'd brought this whole thing upon them. Him, not Danny. He'd dared Danny to go into the portal and all of this had happened. Danny kept getting hurt. Mom was about to collapse under the pressure of keeping them both safe. Even now, he was making Danny wait on him while he worked on his own problems.

How selfish could he be?

No, no, he'd done nice things for Danny, too. Comforted him. Helped keep his secret. Destroyed his only other friendships.

Fuck.

“Am I—am I ruining people's lives?”

“Of course not, sweetie. What on earth makes you think that?”

“I just—I was a jerk before, and I'm trying to be better, but maybe I'm not as good as I think I am. Maybe I'm only being better because it gets me what I want.”

He did have a crush on Danny, after all. Being nice to Danny was a way to get him to like Kwan more. This whole time, he'd probably been trying to get Danny's attention. He was taking up his time because he craved it, just like he'd craved whatever Dash had been willing to give him. If he really wanted what was best for Danny, he'd try to fix his actual friendships, with Manson and Foley, not hoard him all to himself.

Dr. Spectra hummed. “Well, I suppose that's possible, but it's nothing we can't fix!”

“Really?” If this was all his fault... well, of course it was. How stupid of him to think that just dumping his friends was enough to make up for anything. Instead, here he was focusing on his own happiness and making everything worse.

“Of course. I'm here to help.”

“You said, at the beginning...”

“Yes?”

“You said this didn't have to be about feeling better.” Maybe he didn't deserve to feel better. Not yet. He thought he'd gotten better, but here he was making everything worse for everyone around him. “You said it could be about being better.”

“Of course!” Dr. Spectra's smile stretched impossibly wider. “Is that something you'd like? A self-improvement focus?”

“I—yeah. Yeah, I'd like that.” He couldn't be a problem for his mom or for Danny anymore. He needed to start being a solution. If Dr. Spectra could help...

“Excellent!” She tied off the garbage bag, but Kwan could still smell the sour stench of his vomit. “Let's get started, then, shall we?”

I just read that you want to make Paulina a character with a real personality and not just "the hot and popular girl"

I live for the more dimensional bullies on TV✨

So I came with some little ideas if you want to use, like, she genuinely likes gymnastics or his father is maybe Mexican (bc Sanchez, but that's just MY hc, ignore it if want to) and she may or not be ashamed of it. Maybe she wants to look pretty just for her or she wants to be an actress so she started to having classes for it. Maybe she is vegetarian, maybe not, she definitely knows the language of flowers in my head. She has to be charismatic or at least have a charming talk to be THAT popular without a real bad reputation. She is more intelligent than what she shows, I mean, she seems a little manipulative and certainly dumb person aren't, maybe she think that being smart will make her ugly, plus it makes to everybody underestimate her and no one could see her plans coming.

And she is a teenager too, she likes fashion, she is in love, she can feel insecure of herself, and that can be part of the reason of why is she so mean. As he likes her friends, Star may be like a sister to her, Dash is one of the bests, she thinks thta being in the top of the school is the only eay to fit there and she won't risk it.

I have so many ideas, and I wrote a LOT here, sorry

Anyway, you can ignore all of this, but I wanted to share this with you.

Btw, I also wanna say that I REALLY love your art style and everything here💕

These are all really good! I did intend to maybe have her do dance or something like that bc there's this whole new ghost and fight scene i thought about a few days ago that I would hope wouldn't be offensive, but like I think a day of the dead ghost would make a lot of sense??? so Like, a couple who has a more skeletal design and the bright festive outfits who dance together as their form of attack and Danny is struggling to get their timing and know what to do and BAM Paulina knows what to do and steps in as his dance partner to help out or something

To wrap up the recurring girls at Casper High, here are a few who, as far as I know, are never given names. We know that there are students named Donna, Sasha, and Denise, but they’re only mentioned by name. We don’t know if they’re any of these girls. It’s a possibility worth keeping in mind, though.

Since they don’t have names, here are my nicknames for them: veggie burger (in reference to the one person who said she looks like a Tucker and Sam lovechild), curly, Dee Dee, kitty shirt, tall hair, Ember fan, and the cheerleaders. Hopefully that’s easy enough to follow.

Ironically, despite someone pointing her out in the past, veggie burger has actually shown up the least out of these unnamed girls (not counting the Ember fan or cheerleaders). At least up until The Ultimate Enemy, which is what I’m mostly covering. She definitely has more of a presence than, say, Sarah does, but it’s still hard to figure her out.

She mostly has a serious/calm face, and she gives off the impression that she’s pretty quiet (aside from in Fanning the Flames, where she’s a gushing Ember fan just like everyone else). Not that she’s unsociable. She just seems mind her own business. She’s normally only seen in assemblies and classes outside of Fanning the Flames, and not much outside of school or in the halls.

The one other time (pre-TUE) that I’ve caught her out and about was in Life Lessons. She’s sitting next to the “4″ jock at the Nasty Burger. It’s possible they were paired up for the health sciences project, but since we don’t see them with a flour sack, I can’t say for sure. I do know she wasn’t looking at or talking with him, though. It’s hard to believe such an active bully would be a friend of hers if she’s so quiet. It’s possible, though.

So far, the only class I’ve caught her in is Danny’s math class, and she was taking the CAT at the same time as him. She’s also in Doctor’s Disorders, where the ghost power she gained seems to be the ghost sense.

I haven’t picked up much else about her, but hopefully we’ll see more of her in the future.

I haven’t found many frames that actually focus on curly. If you’re looking for her, though, there are plenty of times you can spot her in the background. She’s at assemblies, in the halls, in classes, and even around town. For whatever reason, though, I never noticed her until I started looking for the background characters.

There’s not a lot of information about her personality, but she’s smiling most of the time, so she seems pretty chipper. I’ve also spotted her hanging out with Mia and Brittany, and she’s the last known member of the Decorations Committee. This gives me the impression that she’s at least somewhat creative and outgoing.

I haven’t spotted anyone that she consistently hangs out with, but she was paired off with the depressed jock in Life Lessons. She’s also been seen a couple of times with the character of indeterminate gender (once laughing at Danny in the Spirit Week baby suit, and once ditching Jazz when she was blabbering about college).

The only class I’ve seen her in is Danny’s math class, and as seen above, it looks like she got the ghost ray in Doctor’s Disorders.

Then there’s Dee Dee, who I call that because she sort of reminds me of Dexter’s sister from Dexter’s Laboratory. Like curly, it’s hard to say much about her because we don’t see her often.

She definitely doesn’t seem like a loner. Most of her posture shows attitude, and she’s been seen chatting on her cell phone in the halls. I haven’t picked out any of her friends, though she might be a bit of a party girl. She was one of the kids at the front of the surprise Ember show at Casper High, and she was at the party at Fentonworks in Pirate Radio. Both of these things could also indicate that she likes pop music in general, since she seems to show up where that’s playing.

There aren’t many other things I’ve noticed about her. She’s in the same health sciences class as Danny. It also looks like she traded partners with Rebecca, since she was originally paired off with her partner. As seen in the top screenshot, though, she ends up paired up with a different guy.

She was once seen running away from ghosts with the blond kid with an overbite who has a crush on Paulina (in Public Enemies). Given their similar face shapes and colors, they could be related. That’s only speculation, though.

I doubt it surprises anybody that I’ve been excited to talk about the cutie in the cat shirt. I’ve mentioned her a few times already, and I don’t know why, but I think she’s precious.

I’ve seen her eating lunch with Rebecca a few times, but more often than that I see her hanging out with cyclops. They’ve eaten lunch together quite a lot, they may have been paired up for the health sciences project in Life Lessons (judging by where they were standing in line), they were sitting next to each other for Jazz’s spirit week speech, and they’re pretty close together at the party in Pirate Radio.

Given her style and sweet face, she gives off the impression of a kind girl who likes cute things. She probably isn’t super outgoing, but she’s not exactly shy, either. She’s comfortable dancing at high school parties with everyone and going out to do fun things like visit the water park or chase an ice cream truck with her classmates.

Still, her and cyclops are an oddly cute combo. I love imagining that he thinks she’s totally rad and hardcore, even with her cute kitty shirt. In fact, the cute kitty shirt is totally punk rock. She is punk rock. They are both punk rock. She’s cool with that. Idk, I just think that’s a cute idea.

The classes I’ve seen her in are Danny’s literature and astrology classes. (I’m just not gonna bother with health sciences from this point on. I think that’s a given by now.)

I tried to come up with a better nickname for this girl than “tall hair,” but it’s her most defining feature. Plenty of girls wear headbands, and the color of her clothes is inconsistent. Plus...I don’t know the name of that hairstyle, and “tall hair” seemed kinder than “Frankenstein’s Bride” or something. Because she’s perfectly lovely, that’s just the only way I know to describe that hairstyle.

But anyway, ramblings aside, tall hair pops up even less than Dee Dee does in the foreground. She’s in the background quite a bit, but she’s rarely the focus. I haven’t spotted her in any classes, but she was taking the CAT at the same time as Danny. In fact, she was sitting on his right (with Star on his left).

Heights in DP are often inconsistent, but a few times she’s drawn to be rather tall in general. Enough that she’s significantly taller than Danny when she’s standing several feet behind him with her knees bent. She’s a bit of a wild dancer, and she was really shaking it up at the party at Fentonworks.

The only person I’ve seen her hanging out with, in a sense, is square. She was also paired up with D in Life Lessons.

I have only spotted this Ember fan in Fanning the Flames. I have no idea who she is. I considered Rebecca, but Rebecca is shown elsewhere in this episode with her usual bangs and tiny ponytail (dyed bright blue). I also thought she might be tall hair, but she’s also seen somewhere else in this crowd, and her face shape is different.

Basically, I do not believe I’ve seen this girl anywhere other than exactly three moments in Fanning the Flames. To make matters weirder, her hair starts off partially blue, then turns completely blue, but then the ponytail turns brown after Ember’s spell is broken.

Perhaps she’s simply an embodiment of Ember’s influence on teens~! I dunno. It’s all I’ve got.

The cheerleaders only ever show up as cheerleaders. I haven’t seen them in casual clothes, classes, or anywhere else. They’re always the same girls, though. The Black girl, the blonde with pigtails, the redhead with a ponytail, and the brunette with a headband.

The episodes I’ve spotted them in so far are Splitting Images (though pigtail girl wasn’t there), My Brother’s Keeper, and I nabbed a screenshot of them from Forever Phantom.

For whatever reason, while Paulina is sometimes spotted with them, Star never is. I don’t know how cheer squad works, but it could be that Star wasn’t actually accepted onto the squad. Bummer.

DP/DC Prompt:

Paulina and Damian twin au combined with Danny and Paulina being dance partners and Danny getting de-aged to a toddler and bad Fenton parents.

For whatever reason, Paulina can't stay with her Papa anymore, and since her dance partner is now a baby and isn't safe in Amity Park, she takes him and runs to Gotham.

Stuff happens and Bruce gets 2 more kids, 1 of which is another bio kid he didn't know about, who also is somehow half dragon?! (Y'all can decide for yourselves what you wanna do with Jazz and Ellie here.)

Danny, to Beast Boy: My former dance partner from my hometown just compared me to a cat for the 10th time in a last hour. I am going to respond by sending her that video of me and you dancing together, with a text that says "I'd say you're irreplaceable, but this guy has some *moves*". I predict that instead of responding, she will immediately figure out how to fly just so she can come here and kick my ass, either for what I said, for not telling her I knew a celebrity, or both.

BB: hang on a sec. Back up. What do you mean Paulina will figure out how to fly?!

Danny: she can turn into a dragon but hasn't figured out how to fly yet.

BB: SHE CAN TURN INTO A DRAGON!?!?!

Someone else, too Danny: It's your funeral.

Danny: little late for that. I've been dead since I was 14 and never got a funeral or a grave. I doubt I'll get either of those things next time I die if I ever die again.

(I imagine this happening a month or 2 after Danny has joined the teen titans (was imagining the version with Damian, so BB and Raven are closer to Damian's age while Starfire is an adult) and Danny is like 15 or 16.)

(Can also switch BB's lines with the unnamed character and it would fit just as well or possibly better.)

Or: Danny and Beast Boy are besties after Danny joined the Teen Titans. 1 of the things they have in common is that they like dancing. Gar has heard a lot about the people Danny cares about, including his former dance partner, Paulina.

Danny and Damian are in love with each other. Paulina and Raven are in love with each other. Raven and Damian think that Danny and Paulina are dating. Danny and Paulina think Damian and Raven are dating.

Danny and Paulina are dance partners. A half dragon and a half ghost. Paulina, as a dragon, needs a lot of affection to be happy. Danny is extremely touch starved even for a human, but ghosts with ice cores tend to be more affectionate, so it's worse. This being said, Paulina asks Danny for cuddles a lot (asking for affection is harder for Danny than climbing a mountain with both hands tied behind his back without using his powers), and Danny just about always says yes. They also sometimes watch stuff together as Paulina tries to get Danny into some shows she likes, and succeeds with some of them.

Damian and Raven hang out a lot, and seem to understand each other really well. (I don't have headcannons about Damian and Raven that make this argument very strong, but maybe they read some of the same books and meditate together?)

Sam knows what's going on and is enjoying the chaos (while possibly crushing on Paulina and Raven)

DeadOnMain and Starfire/Paulina

Maybe Danny and Paulina joined the Outlaws. Paulina definitely has dragon powers. (~~Can also use the idea I've talked about before with Danny being 1/4th dragon on top of being half ghost while Paulina is half dragon, but up to you~~)

Starfire finds out Paulina wasn't prom queen in a conversation that they had after Danny and Paulina sang a duet version of Teen Idle by MARINA, where they both sang the lines they related to. She asks how Paulina could have lost that popularity contest and who could have possibly beat her, and that's how Danny and Paulina end up explaining that they both had to leave their town and their families and friends in the middle of their sophomore year and they never got to finish highschool.

Danny had been dissected by his parents and Paulina saved him. He had to run away, and Paulina had to go with him for some reason. Maybe Paulina's family was against her being part dragon or maybe they were against her helping a ghost or what ever else you can come up with, but neither of them were safe in Amity. They ran away and didn't get to finish highschool. Not going to highschool wasn't as bad for Danny because school sucked for him. He never got to sleep and didn't have time to study because of the constant ghost attacks, and his grades were terrible because of that. He got the shit beat out of him every day and he was the only one who got in trouble for it. He might not have gotten beaten as much after he became Paulina's dance partner, but school still sucked for the most part. Paulina on the other hand? She was the most popular girl at school. She was Cheer Captain and friends with everyone. Everyone just knew for years ahead of time that she was going to be Prom Queen. She had already designed, sketched, and sewed her own BEAUTIFUL dress for prom. But she never got the chance to go to prom. Because she and Danny had to leave in the middle of sophomore year. Danny knows this hit her hard. She had cried to him about it.

But time moved on. Now, in the present, at the moment when the 2 of them are talking with Jason and Kori, it has been years. They are about the age that people usually start college. Paulina has a job as a model and is working to get her GED so she can move on from her highschool education she never got to finish and so she can go to college. Danny has just signed up for online classes, finally having enough money to finish highschool, having decided that he definitely wants to finish the education he missed out on.

Headcannons that carry over to almost every if not every DP au I think of (most if not all of them are DP/DC aus)

Danny and Jazz took dance classes when they were little, and Danny was always a dance prodigy. He can dance flawlessly on pointe and can do any style, though Danny and Jazz's main focus was ballet when they took dance classes. They still know a lot about most dance styles.

Danny and Jazz also took figure skating lessons growing up, but only in winter. They both still practice every time they go ice skating.

Danny is trans.

Danny and Paulina are dance partners (or were dance partners before Danny left Amity Park)

Paulina has dragon powers because of the incident with Dorothea's necklace.

Sam has dragon powers because of that incident as well, but hers are weaker due to less exposure.

Sam also has plant powers because of the thing that happened with Undergrowth.

Paulina and Sam both have dragon instincts because of their dragon powers. This means they are both VERY protective.

Ghost hearing is on the same level as kryptonian hearing. When Danny first became a halfa, everything was too loud for him to understand and sounded like white noise. Danny, Sam, and Tucker all started learning sign language shortly after the accident because of this. If Jazz didn't already know sign language, she quickly noticed that Danny wasn't understanding anything he was hearing and started learning sign language as well.

Ghost speech is not a language. It is a power that allows ghosts to understand and speak any and every language fluently, whether they've heard it before or not. But it's like learning every language with the time and effort it takes to learn 1. The power still needs to be practiced for ghosts to use it well. It's a skill.

Danny knew a few languages even before he died, so it was easier for him to learn ghost speech than it was for other ghosts who have that power.

Dani goes by Ellie because it didn't feel like she had her own name when she went by Dani.

Danny and Ellie both have fangs.

Danny and Ellie need more iron in their diets than any human.

Danny is 4 feet tall and will stay that height forever.

Ellie is at least 6 feet tall when fully grown because her growth wasn't stunted like Danny's.

Jazz is TALL

Danny is touch starved af but REFUSES to ask for affection.

Jazz is touch starved too, but not nearly as much as Danny, and her communication about wanting affection is slightly better than Danny's.

Danny gave Ellie a stuffed raccoon shortly after they met. Ellie named it Travis.

Ellie refuses to say the word "raccoon." They are Trash Pandas and that is what she calls them.

Danny has a giant panda plush that was given to him by 1 or both of his sisters.

Jazz has a stuffed red panda that Danny and Ellie worked together to get for her.

Danny is bisexual.

Sam is a lesbian.

Jazz is either a lesbian, bi with a preference for women, or aroace. (Lesbian in most of the aus I think of.)

John Constantine is Danny and Jazz's pseudo uncle, "Uncle JC," who they weren't allowed to see or talk to anymore after he got into a fight with Jack and Maddie about ghosts when Danny was 12. (This 1 is more specific to dp/dc, but most, if not all, of the dp aus I think of are dp/dc.)

I don't talk about these enough, but these are the headcannons going through my head with every, or almost every, story idea I come up with. I think I've mentioned all of these on discord at some point. I don't post all the story ideas I come up with, but many float in and out of my head and repeatedly come back. Sometimes, a possible story idea will be floating around in my head for weeks, and I won't write anything down or talk about it or post about it, and then eventually I either send it to the discord server to talk about, or post it on tumblr. Usually discord. But I only talk about the ones that I can put into clear enough words to talk about them.

Alright, it’s time to wrap up the recurring male background characters at Casper High! None of these guys are given names, so here are my nicknames for them: big guy, D, goatee, egg, Ricky Marsh, square, crooked hair, and hook nose.

I don’t have much else to say about them, so I’ll just jump right into it.

I’ve mentioned big guy a couple of times, particularly in the last post. So it probably comes as no surprise that he seems pretty friendly. He’s usually smiling, and he has quite a few people he hangs out with.

Obviously, he’s friends with green stocking cap (as seen at the top). He also hangs out some with Ashley, Adam, crooked hair, egg, bangs, gap, mullet, and lumpy. He may have been dancing with Tiffanie in Parental Bonding, but he could’ve been dancing alone, too. It was hard to tell.

The only class I’ve seen him in is Danny’s math class. While he looks like a big, friendly guy, that’s all I’ve picked up about him.

Goatee and D seem to be very close. They’re often seen together, whether at the movies, the mall, or just sitting together at assemblies. That doesn’t mean they don’t have other friends, though. Goatee has been seen with some of the non-sports athletic guys (such as cyclops, red hoodie, and lightning), Nathan, and convention kid.

D seems to be a bit less outgoing, since I don’t see him with many friends outside of goatee. He was paired up with tall hair in Life Lessons, and I’ve sometimes seen him with two of the Vulkins (the glasses and visor kids above) and green stocking cap. It’s hard to tell if he’s actually friendly with them or he just happens to be around them a lot, though.

The two of them clearly like music and movies, and they seem to think of themselves ad pretty cool. Not that they’re popular, but they’re cool in a better way. Goatee may ride his bike to school, since he’s shown crashing a bike into a tree while staring at Paulina. The only other bit of trivia I can think of is that D’s name may start with D, since that’s the letter he’s always wearing around his neck. It could mean something else, though.

D is in Danny’s biology class. Goatee is in his astronomy class. He was also seen in Doctor’s Disorders, and the ghost power he got was intangibility (causing him to fall through the wall he was leaning on).

It actually took me a long time to notice hook nose. At first, I mistook him for Ricky Marsh a few times (though I don’t know how). I also noticed him at Paulina’s quinceañera, but he wasn’t wearing a beanie, so I didn’t recognize him. I actually thought he wasn’t a Casper High student initially, and that he must’ve been invited to the quinceañera because he was related to her.

That’s still possible, though it could just be that he’s considered cool enough to be invited. I’ve seen him hanging out with Ricky Marsh a few times, and he may also be friendly with lightning. I haven’t seen enough of him to figure out much more than that, though.

I have seen him in Danny’s math class, but that’s all.

I mentioned this once before, but a phan once dubbed this character Ricky Marsh, the childhood victim of one Sam Manson. I can’t really say I’ve accepted that headcanon or that I haven’t, but the name stuck for me, so I call him that anyway.

The only person I see him hanging around very much is hook nose, though I’ve seen him with the character of indeterminate gender a couple of times. He was also paired off with Dee Dee in Life Lessons, but he switched partners so he could be with Rebecca. That implies that the two of them are probably close, though we don’t see them together much aside from that.

Then again, we don’t see Ricky much at all. He only shows up a little bit more than hook nose. The personality traits I’ve picked up about him is that he’s not an especially cheery person. In fact, when he’s in the background, he’s usually frowning. (Hook nose seems a bit more cheerful.) Rebecca seems like the person he’s the most comfortable with, since he was okay with holding her shoulder, but he keeps his distance from most people.

The only class I’ve seen him in is Danny’s math class.

You might be tired of some of the limited information I have, but square actually shows up even less than hook nose. He just got to be at the front once with Dee Dee.

He seems pretty laid back and kind of cool, but he’s not overly chipper or outgoing. He was still willing to go to the party in Pirate Radio, but it seems most of the school went to that.

The only people I’ve seen him hanging out with are tall hair and mullet, though I may have seen him with Tiffanie, blue stocking cap, and gap as well. His only known class is Danny’s math class. It seems like he was originally Rebecca’s partner in Life Lessons, since he ended up with Dee Dee after Ricky swapped.

Unlike the previous guys, I’ve actually seen crooked hair around a lot. It seems like he might be a bit bullied, since he’s the victim of the odd book knocker. He was still considered cool enough to attend Paulina’s quinceañera. I’ve seen him quite a lot with green stocking cap, and they seem to be good friends. I’ve also seen him hanging out with big guy, egg, bangs, gap, mullet, and Adam. Ashley doesn’t seem to be a big fan of him since she’s seen glaring at him while he talks to her and Star in one episode. It could be that she was mad about something else, though.

He seems cheerful, mild mannered, and kind of quiet. He often seems like he’s kind of on the nerdy side, but he got lucky enough to have the right friends that keep him from being considered totally unpopular.

The classes I’ve seen him in are Danny’s literature, math, and health sciences classes. He was also one of the kids shown getting ready to fight ghosts in Pirate Radio.

You’ve probably already guessed that I call this character egg because he is shaped kind of like one. And...that’s all there is to that.

Clearly, he’s considered cool enough to be invited to Paulina’s quinceañera, and he has a decent amount of friends. I’ve seen him hanging out with bangs, gap, Adam, big guy, and crooked hair. Out of those guys, I’ve seen him the most with bangs.

Aside from that, I can’t really figure out what his deal is. He’s not seen in any classes or any social activities outside of Ember concerts and Paulina’s quinceañera. There aren’t any scenes that tell me anything about what he’s like as a person.

Usually, he just stands there. Staring at nothing. With his eyebrows low and a slight smile on his face. It’s kind of unnerving.

Or maybe that’s just me. Idk. It’s just egg being egg.

Since I’ve mentioned them a few times already, I figured it’d be a good idea to go over the few background girls that have canon names. Here we have, in order, Mia, Hannah, Rebecca, Sarah, and Tiffanie. A few of these girls are seen more often than others (like Sarah hasn’t shown up a ton), but they’re around enough that I think I can figure some things out.

So here we go. I’ll cover them in order.

Most of the time, Mia seems like a background character that’s there to be just that. A background character. She pretty much only appears in places like the school halls, cafeteria, and around town.

There are a few things I’ve picked up on her, though. For example, her design is one of the least consistent I’ve seen. Her hair color has been brown, blond, black, and a bit of a reddish color. Her clothes are usually green, but whether she’s wearing a crop top or not varies. As seen above, her clothes can be pink, and her eye shadow switches between green and blue.

While there are occasional mistakes, most of the background characters are surprisingly consistent. Particularly if they have names. The fact that Mia changes so much could mean that she’s just the kind of person who likes to change things up a lot. Not a ton of girls at Casper High even wear eye shadow, so the fact that she does and will change the color says something about her personality.

The people she’s seen the most often with are Hannah and Rebecca, though a lot of the time there’s enough distance between them that it’s hard to tell if they’re actually hanging out. She has been seen hanging out with Brittany, though, and the jock I call Brad was flirting with her at one point. She didn’t seem to mind. There’s also the kid with the visor, who she was paired up with for the health sciences project. While this doesn’t mean much, there was another time when she was seen in the lunchroom walking beside him. This could mean they’re friends.

I don’t know a lot about fashion, but there’s something about Hannah’s outfit that jumps out at me. It feels so distinctly early 2000s. Like the kind of thing I saw a lot of tomboy characters in movies wear. I’m certain I also saw Avril Lavigne wearing stuff like this, though with more accessories.

Since Danny Phantom aired in the early 2000s, I get the feeling that’s the look Hannah’s going for. She might watch a lot of teen dramas, though specifically the ones that aren’t too bubblegum pop. I wouldn’t be shocked if she listened to a ton of Avril Lavigne.

Of course, I can’t base a characters entire personality off their clothes. She’s been seen having lunch and hanging out with Rebecca, and Mia is around her sometimes. In fact, she seems a bit closer to Rebecca than Mia is. She also hangs out a bit with the punk rock round girl in the kitty shirt. Aside from that, she seems to keep somewhat to herself.

The only class I’ve caught her in is astronomy, though of course I wouldn’t doubt she’s in health sciences.

Rebecca is seen around a bit more than Mia and a lot more than Hannah. She seems to hang out with both of them (though she’s seen more with Hannah). She’s also been shown hanging out with cyclops and his punk rock round friend and the brunet Vulkin.

More interesting, though, is the character she’s seen with here. Another phan dubbed him Ricky Marsh, the kid Sam kicked off the monkey bars in second grade. I’ve been unable to unsee it despite there being no real reasoning behind it, so I’m just gonna call him Ricky.

Anyway, this moment is from Life Lessons, when Tucker is refunding everyone’s money after his babysitting service failed. However, in the picture further up of Mia, you can see him paired off with a blonde girl with pigtails. You could argue that they’re just characters that look similar, but the girl with pigtails is shown collecting money in this line, too. Her partner is suddenly a completely different guy.

Considering Ricky’s hand is on Rebecca’s shoulder, and he’s the only one in the line doing something like that, I’m guessing they’re close. It looks like he’s supporting her. It seems like the two of them wanted to trade partners so they could do the project together. Whether they’re relatives, dating, or really close friends is up for debate. We don’t really see them together elsewhere. I thought it was noteworthy, though.

A few other things I’ve noticed about Rebecca is that she seems to be fairly popular (enough to be one of the first invited to Dash’s party in Attack of the Killer Garage Sale.) Despite that, she doesn’t seem to like Paulina very much. When guys are oggling her in Doctor’s Disorders, Rebecca’s also seen in the crowd scowling at her.

Aside from health sciences, the classes I’ve caught her in are Danny’s astronomy class and maybe his math class. She was also taking the CAT at the same time as him.

Sarah appears the least out of these girls. I’ve only captured 9 screenshots of her, and most of those have her way in the background. I’m not even certain some of these actually are her. I haven’t seen her in the hallways, classrooms, or lunchroom, so I haven’t been able to figure out who her friends might be.

All I do know about her is that she might have an attitude. She’s never shown smiling. She only ever looks annoyed or is yelling/screaming. She was one of the students arguing in front of Fentonworks in Pirate Radio. She only appears for a second, though, and we don’t hear what she’s saying.

I get the feeling she might be an older student, which is why she has no classes with the freshmen. I don’t have any definite proof of that, though.

And then we have Tiffanie. In contrast, she actually appears the most out of these girls, though she’s usually way in the background. I don’t think she ever even got a line of dialogue. Just a scream in Parental Bonding.

Still, it’s not too hard to figure out what she’s like. Tiffanie is almost always smiling, and she seems to be friends with a lot of people. She hangs out with glasses girl here, Nathan, the once mentioned character of indeterminate gender, Mia, both blue stocking cap and lightning from the non sports athletic guys, this kid, and others. She was also invited to Paulina’s birthday party, where she was seen dancing with Nathan. I’ve pointed out that she went to the school dance, where she seemed to be dancing with a few friends (particularly at least glasses girl.) On top of all of that, she’s another member of the Decorations Committee, as seen in Fright Night.

Tiffanie seems like an outgoing, fun, cheerful girl who’s friends with a ton of people. She likes to put herself out there and get involved. She seems to like dancing and shopping, though she probably likes anything you can do with other people.

The classes I’ve spotted her in are Danny’s biology, math, and astronomy classes. There’s also, of course, a health sciences class. She seems to be a frequent Nasty Burger customer, though that place is popular with teens in general.

And that’s all I’ve got on these ladies so far. We’re slowly chipping away at the Casper High student body. We’ve still got a way to go, but I’d say we’re almost halfway done.
