Just a Normal Genshin Impact Game Time... Is it?

This SAGAU fanfic was actually created like a year ago (March 15, 2023), but decided to redo this again. This was created during the time I was still Venti-less, so this one was like a story of me trying to cope at that time.

And yes, my latest fanart coincidentally fits this story too! I just stumbled on this back when I tried to scroll on my drafts while waiting for the fanart to be posted.

CW: blood, violence, and murder. Be warned.

You were just playing Genshin Impact on your computer like any other day, just doing the usual stuff you always do every time you login like doing the daily commissions and farming domains to build your characters.

One day, after doing your usual Genshin dallies for the day, you decided to take some scenic pictures with your current team on board and explore Teyvat to look for random chests and hidden quests you may miss. You know, to pass the time and possibly scrounge for primogems to farm for your favorite character.

But as you try to explore the place while trying to find a good spot to take pictures, you couldn't shake the feeling that something is wrong, that something or someone was watching you.

You were confused at first, on why you are feeling like that. But you just shrugged, as you may think you just had too much coffee. After all, you love coffee to the bone.

As you took Kokomi to a scenic place somewhere in Mondstadt, you had noticed something strange that was hidden by a canopy of trees, few meters behind the current character. You squinted a little bit, your eyes still trying to figure out the culprit of your distraction.

There was a figure hidden behind the trees.

At first, you mistook it as a rock or something inanimate but you then noticed that it was actually a person when it moved. It was not an NPC or random animal, but an actual playable character. After all, you could recognize that outfit even from afar, as Genshin Impact characters had some unique styles that were fit for their personalities and status.

It was Venti, hiding in a tree from far away, with eyes glaring at you.

Your heart nearly burst out of your chest when you saw him as you quickly exit the camera mode, trying to find some explanation of why he was there, to begin with. Maybe there's an event that he had been with?

You checked the quest menu to check for any Mondstadt-related events that you probably never finished, but to your horror, there was nothing. You looked at some guides online, some clues onto why he was there, that there may be an event from other nations that had him as a guest, but to no avail. You remembered that you already did his story quest and the quests that he was actually involved in-game. Maybe it's a glitch?

With a shaky grip, you closed the quest menu and stared at the same spot again. Venti was still there behind the tree, watching you with soulless eyes.

You were shaking in fear as you were also staring at him.

As you were still frozen on your seat, trying to make sense of everything, the figure dressed as Venti suddenly pointing something at your Kokomi, his soulless eyes still looking at your terrified ones, like he was a rabid dog vying for attention.

You suddenly recognized what he was trying to do. He was pointing out his former signature weapon, the iconic Skyward Harp, at you.

"Wait, isn't the Elegy of the End his new signature weapon?" You muttered out as your mind had tried to remember about Venti. You were a fan of him, so it would be in your forte to remember every single detail about him.

You remember that even his weapon was already changed to Elegy of the End during his consecutive reruns due to the new bow fits his kit than Skyward Harp, the latter was still his signature weapon in lore.

In the corner of your eye, you noticed something weird once again, this time on the map.

Apparently, the map shows you that there is a second player on the map, and that player was near your vicinity. You widened your eyes as you remembered that you didn't do any co-op with a Venti main recently and you don't even have a Venti. And to your horror, even your co-op mode wasn't even turned on!

You had remembered that you always wanted Venti, but due to your impatient nature, you had decided to build pity and accidentally won Kokomi twice on the last day of her banner. You got C1 Kokomi instead.

Unfortunately, Venti's banner was next and you regretted that he never came home. You had lost your 50/50 to your very first Qiqi at 75 pulls... At the end of his rerun banner.

...this is weird and unsettling, so you decided to quit the game, but to your horror, you can't even access the damned menu, soft locking you out.

As you saw Venti's creepy smile while he was sadistically hitting your main team with his anemo-infused arrows, you were horrified at what happened next.

You watched your entire team being stabbed by his arrows, blood splattering on the screen like a grotesque painting, and your current team crying for mercy and help as they were hit by the arrows the Anemo Archon in disguise had been aiming at them and they were frozen in spot because of some twisted form of code that the game had, instead of them doing their usual lines while being on low HP or fallen down. And you couldn't even make them run by pressing the buttons to move the character you currently have because you're frozen in fear as you saw the character pleading for you to make them run away from the crazed fellow using your keyboard and mouse but you didn't. You didn't even help them survive.

You remembered that characters that had fallen down were supposed to turn into glowing white dust instead of this... bloody mess you were witnessing.

This isn't right!

It was like you were playing a horror game rather than a simple open-world RPG game.

Then while the carnage was happening, there is an in-game text that was showing up while this is happening, of Venti still happily singing his ballads while doing the unthinkable. As if he was gleefully watching you squirm.

You couldn't help but close the game in a blink of an eye after you witnessed the scene by trying to turn off the computer and decided to never touch the game again. Thankfully, your computer turned off, but it had left you traumatized.

You decided to uninstall the game after rebooting the computer. The usual uninstall window had appeared with a picture of a chibified Amber crying showed up and a message about asking if you were really uninstalling the app, as if beckoning you not to delete the game, but you insisted and still pressed the uninstall button.

You decided to leave your room while leaving the computer to do its duty to uninstall the cursed stuff, but after you went outside for some fresh air, the uninstall window that was supposed to show a chibified Klee signifying the game had been uninstalled, glitched for a second.

Venti's creepy smile was seen in a split second on the entirety of the computer screen instead of the window with Klee, with some words written in glitchy Teyvatian language then in glitchy English that was flickering in the screen before it turns normal once again.

Npcs scrolling through your phone

You felt homesick and spent some time looking through pictures on your phone. You got distracted and left said phone out in the open where the tieflings could find it. How they react to looking through your photo album (and see some spicey pics of you)

Characters: Dammon, Rolan, Zevlor

Warnings: none, mention of nudes ig

Notes: Back on my isekai shenanigans. I want to do more with this. Might make a part 2 with companions

Dammon

Absorbs everything he can about Earth. He loves hearing you talk about your home and is fascinated with your phone

When he notices it just laying there he couldn't help but pick it up

Runs his hands around the sleek surface. Admiring the craftsmanship. Many questions running through his head on how it was made, was this glass? The metal feels so smooth

He's tempted to take it apart by peice to understand it

His thumb presses something and the screen lights up. He looks on wide eye as he sees rows and rows of images

You told him enough how you capture images on your device and he recognizes one of him. He figures out how to scroll through the rows of images

There's a lot of pictures of cute animals, he notices with a smile. He doesn't understand the memes tho. He recognizes some of the places you took photos of. He marvels at the detail. Paintings couldn't come close to this

Then he scrolls even longer and he gets to pictures you've taken before arriving in Faerun

It was like looking through memories. He sees you doing various things in different places

He can't help staring at some for longer. You look wonderful in every one. Theres a twinge of affection seeing the random, candid ones of you just doing mundane or silly things

A little more flustered at the ones you pose with a nice outfit and makeup. Looking like some noble at a gathering

If he sees pictures of a city in your world he wonders what those glass 'towers' are and how they're made. They look taller than any structure he's ever seen

An image of the city at night is his favorite. Is this where you live? The lights are mesmerizing. He couldn't imagine seeing it in person. He does believe someone like you lives in a fantastical place like that

Just gets more enthralled with you as a person with all the places you've been and things you've done.

Then he gets to 'those' pictures with you scantily clad or completely nude and he nearly drops the phone

He couldn't help but stare for a few seconds admiring the view before setting it down. Looking around wondering if you've seen him

Feels terrible knowing you hadn't intended to show him that but questions what they're for

Safe to say the image is burned into his mind. He will fess up about it. Apologizing profusely. If you accept his apology he'll quickly turn to ask about your home

Rolan

Was going to scold you for just leaving your things out. What if they were stolen?

Picked up your phone hoping to give it to you but ends up wondering about the odd device.

Startles when it lights up on one end

From the images he thinks it some type of memory viewer. With how detailed the pictures, it's like he was actually there

Then he sees pictures of you and he's drawn in like a moth to a flame. Next thing he knows he's swiping through photo after photo

He rolls his eyes at some of the silly images you took. Hooligan. Skips the memes and focuses on pictures that had you in them

Sees you going about you daily life. The modern world looking alien to his eyes and he doesn't understand what your doing in some of them

But he likes seeing these genuine moments.

He knows what its like leaving your home behind suddenly. Next time perhaps you two could talk more about your life back on your world

Makes an emberassing noise when he sees a nude photo of you and drops it like his hand was burned

Tries to get it out of his mind and continue on his normal day but whenever he sees you the images returns and he fails to act normal

He will eventually tell you what happened and is genuinely sorry about invading your privacy. If you just laugh at his reaction to your nudes he'll just be grumpy

Might call you a degenerate but that won't save him from your teasing

Zevlor

Definitely worried about touching your things. Scared he might damage something

But like Rolan he'll see pictures of you and he's overun by curiosity. He's also fascinated by technology from your world

Is amused at the animals pictures but really drawn to those of you. He wants to know what your life before was like, what you thought, what you like doing

Loves the ones where you look peaceful, laying down somewhere nice and sunny. He's always worried of the danger you get in to or attract. Its lovely to see moments like this

While he's happy looking through these pictures. A part of him is worried you miss your home so much you would rather be there (and away from him)

You had a nice life according to these pictures. You must want to go back.

He understands having to leave the place you grew to care for and being thrust into unfavorable circumstances. He admires how well you've done for yourself in this foreign world, away from everything you've ever known

You have his respect. He's lucky to have ever known you. But he wonders if he's enough to make you stay. Or if he should even want you to instead of supporting your wishes

When he comes across the spicey✨ pictures of you his face turns a deeper shade of red. He's frozen still as a part of him admires the sight before him but another orders him to look away! That's not gentlemanly!

Puts the phone down and feels more guilty than ever. Doesn't know how to bring this up with you but his morals tell him to

Thankfully you find it more funny but now he's really curious of what those pictures were for and how he can stop daydreaming about them so much like some youth

SPLATTER! (REGRETEVATOR OC)

“NEED MORE COLOR!!!” She/her he/him, Genderfluid and pansexual, age unknown (seems to be 22 years old)

Can enter the elevator: yes

Killable: yes

Hostile?: will only hit you if you hit him first

Splatter is a npc in regretevator, he will enter the elevator from floors 'tumblr ballpit' (though it is quite rare for him to spawn in that floor) you would see him sitting next to the ballpit who will eventually stand up and walk to the elevator although he will not enter the elevator if it's full. If MR is in the elevator he will stand up and fall into the ballpit and die on impact and 'hotel floor' (he will immediately enter the elevator before the gas can activate, covering his mouth until the event ends) if he sees the elevator is full he will go back to a random room he spawned in but if MR is in the elevator he will immediately pause for 2 seconds and then run to his room as a locking sound affect plays and him crying can be heard. He speaks in somewhat of a bad grammar. He doesn't know what species he is but insists that he is a human being claims to be in college even though there isn't exactly a school in this universe..? The more damage you have dealt to him, he will hit you back with that same damage. His face paint can vary in primary colors (red, blue and yellow)

PERSONALITY:

At first, he's a little creepy and weird. Perhaps observing and drawing npcs at an uncomfortably close proximity to them and his undying passion of art doesn't exactly mix well doesn't it? But in general he is just trying to fit in with other people and means no bad intentions, constantly fidgeting his paintbrush and trying to find something to draw is his daily routine, he even forgets to take care of himself sometimes! Got some screws loose in his head due to him having little to no sleep at all. He is trying to be a good person, desperately. He wants to understand human emotion in order to react "Normally". Kind of... naive? He is naive enough to consider almost everyone (except for gnarpy, Bive, MR and unpleasant) his friends.

Splatter is actually immune to the gas in the hotel floor, she just doesn't know it yet.

Splatter's sense of smell and sight is a little below average

Loves the primary colors or just any color that's bright as hell

Blood color is black (emo core 🖤🖤)

Kind of fascinated with Pilby, thinking they'll turn into a butterfly. Which Pilby has to remind her that they can't lol

Yandere Elliott Mod is funny as hell (to me)

Disclaimer: None of this is meant to be taken seriously, this is me rambling into the void and to my friends.

I cannot believe I'm reviewing a mod, lol. Is it a review? I don't know anymore, just giving my take on it.

It's been like 2 weeks since I gave the Yandere Elliott mod a try and honestly I find it more unintentionally hilarious than off-putting in most places.

I felt that some of the moments could be interpreted as genuinely wholesome and sweet if you isolated them (but that's just how context works in a nutshell I suppose. Look, I genuinely thought the insomnia scene and the post-moonlight-jellies scene with adorable, alright?).

The fact that I have to go out of my way to play very different than I ever would have certainly modifies my overall perspective. If I played normally, the only really unsettling thing would be his unhinged letters. Well, one in particular at least. Most of the letters were campy and funny, knowing how melodramatic this character is naturally. Only 1 letter made me and 2 other people I showed it to go "Oh GOD". Everything else? Unintentionally hilarious, or wholesome if you take the obsession letters out. His stalker-schedule was funny as hell. What do I mean by that? How is the "stalker schedule" funny? The mod alters his schedule after 1 heart, so he'll periodically go spy on you on the farm. This was scary only twice for me because I didn't expect it, and there was a long gap between the first time and the second time. Once summer hit, however, it got funny. He was showing up every single day at 6:30 on the dot, except for Friday and Sunday. He was so punctual that I'd look at the clock, see he's about to show up, and prepare myself for my daily convo with him/gift giving if it's Monday and Tuesday. Man was so consistent it was hilarious.

Even better: when he's standing there for so long, his pathfinding kinda... glitches? He'll act like there's something in front of him preventing his movement (like when a player character standing in an NPC's pathing) and suddenly just... book it across the map into the void. Practically died laughing (though I did freak out the first time it happened because I thought "WAIT THIS MOD LETS HIM CHASE YOU?" only for him to run passed and into nothingness)

It actually got a bit lonely in autumn when he stopped showing up and opted to camp outside the mines instead all day. (Elli, sweetie, Ignatius is not going there most of the time because autumn 1 is a busy season for him, come back!) The fact that I have to fully romance all the other bachelors in order to activate one of the legitimately most unhinged aspects of the mod is what throws me off. I know they're fictional characters, but I've always felt icky at multi-dating personally. Just not for me. I pick one and I stick with my decision. Reading the text in the content file is one thing, but I wanted to see the event play out for myself.

After the event, it got hilarious again completely on accident.

Cue Elli not letting Ignatius leave the farm because of his jealousy. It was winter when this happened. The Obsession Cage-Loop event is designed to where Pierre will send you 50 of a random seed packet every day to make up for the fact that you cannot leave.

Crops don't grow in winter.

The mod makes up for this fact by Pierre sending you ANCIENT FRUIT SEEDS. I had over 300 seeds by the time spring hit. Elli straight up SCAMMING Pierre during the Cage-Loop completely on accident. I'm just sitting here thinking "Dang, had I known this would have happened, I'd have activated this sooner AND kept Elli's heart-level low just to get more bang for my buck. Endless supply of Ancient Fruit Seeds just because you're jealous? Yes please!".

After the cage-loop is over, that's pretty much it. Elli apologizes, wants to do better so you feel safe around him, is willing to just be tormented by his jealousy; etc. and things just kinda go... normal??? After that. He still has his eye-brow raising marriage lines afterwards but after everything has passed, he's not too unsettling.

He's just a weirdo who doesn't know how to handle his love.

Other than ONE letter, and the fact that I had to go OUT OF MY WAY to deliberately activate the Cage-Loop event?

This mod vanilla as fuck, lol.

And no, I didn't do the divorce event. I have a history relating to such dark thoughts and even just reading the dialogue in the content file made me uncomfortable.

Overall 10/10 good way to have spent my week between my 2.0 vtuber model work.

It also do not help at all that what makes this mod hilarious in my head is that I play as an inhuman farmer who absolutely towers over Elli in every way. Ignatius is not threatened by this obsessive weirdo in the least bit.

So I've been sitting on this thought for a bit but. I want to make an informal propaganda post for Gaiaonline! It's a site that's got its pros and its cons, but I feel like it'd really appeal to some of the tumblr crowd, and also I just like to gush about things I like and Gaia is one of those things

So: What is Gaiaonline?

Gaiaonline is essentially a social/avi dressup site, with a lot of love poured into the site's setting! The big draw of course is having an avatar to personalize and plenty of items to dress them up in, but there's other features as well:

Such as numerous minigames (more on one of those later), and even manga featuring backstory and escapades of the site's npcs (don't let the cool panel crops fool you though - a lot of it is silly gag bits lol)

There's also a few options for socializing, as well - you can of course dm people, but there's also forums, profile comments, and statuses. The forum even has semi-recently gained the option for night mode! The site also has their own selection of emojis, some standard and some... not so much xD

Speaking of profile - you can have a decently customizable profile! Gaia provides options in-site, but if none of those are your cup of tea then you can use an external url (or photobucket, but they both watermark nowadays and also are switching to pay-only accounts so I don't recommend that option) - you can add images on the profile, and a background, and have multiple text boxes that can be customized for various uses! Gaia also has aquariums that can display on your profile, but I don't use those anymore so I can't say much on them.

So your avi isn't the only thing you can stylize! Speaking of which... How about those avis?

You can get a wide array of items, and with the right inventory the world is your oyster! There's even a slew of franchise/fandom-inspired items, either from old promotions or just designs made as homages!

(Example Adventure Time-inspired item on the marketplace - Many users sell their items there, so it's wise to check in from time to time!)

Gaia also historically turns to its userbase for item inspiration, and sells the winning designs from the contests it hosts in the shops, so you could show off your own design tastes if you feel like they're lacking your dream item.

^ Example store - complete with a storefront where you can see other user's avatars out front if they're shopping there! The screencap of Moira the NPC is from the middle of the Halloween event they host yearly, hence her dialogue box and Harley Quinn Cosplay.

Don't have money? Not to worry! Gaia offers "Daily Chance" items and money, sometimes including random chance mini-events that can give you some sweet loot AND a fun time.

Still, maybe you want something more... Interactive? Not to worry!!

Allow me to introduce.... zOMG! A flash game - yes you heard that right, FLASH game - where you can run around and kill things, take on quests from npcs, and earn more gold, make friends and more! As stated, it's a flash game, so they had to come up with some workarounds - but they offer suggestions on-site that work with some success in my experience! The drawback is it can be a bit laggy, but sometimes it's just fun having an excuse to see your avatar run around and shoot things. Or slash things. or fling flaming meteors at things. You know how it is.

All in all, it's a very silly site, but one that I find holds a lot of charm and a place in my heart even now. I can't recommend it enough, and hope this appeals to someone reading. :)

P.S. : CONS OF GAIA

This post is already too long so I put cons (and some general disclaimers) under the cut, feel free to read at your discretion:

So as much as I like to gush, there are some notable cons to Gaia, which feel noteworthy to share. I only spend my time in the areas of the site covered above, so apologies if there's anything I fail to mention:

The economy. Good Lord, the Economy. It got so bad Gaia literally had to change from Gaia gold to Gaia platinum because the inflation got so bad - and then they never properly addressed the setup that led to this in the first place. If you buy from the Gcash stores or from the regular storefronts, it's nbd - but the marketplace with its auctions and its user-established prices can get downright brutal. Gaia has also taken recently to flooding the daily chance items with high-quality items from days past - which may not be the worst (especially not for new users) but I do strongly suspect it isn't helping the economy front much.

GCash - Personally I find this a drawback, but a lot of Gaia's push, especially of late, is GCash. This makes sense - there aren't a lot of users left atm, so no point in hosting events, but it does get a little old removing announcements for items only available for real money sometimes. This is something I hope would see a change though, if enough people decide to join.

Filters - there are unfortunately some curses and the like banned to keep the site 'friendly' to younger ages which. Sometimes backfires on their own announcements or npc dialogue. You can type and send the word, iirc, but it will get automatically filtered accordingly. That said, avatar items can get exceedingly raunchy, or have curse words in their displays even, so the bar is.... Nebulous, here.

Flash Player - Gaia has been around for a long time, since 2003. A lot of functions are defunct or buggy, or in the case of zOMG! as mentioned above, require an outside party tool to help it run smoothly. They do what they can do address it but it has impacted things and probably will continue to do so.

Social media - I would say this site doesn't quite qualify as such, as the ability to share media is middling at best. You can post writing, or art, using the forums or the journal function, but it's far from ideal. Other aspects, like profile comments, can be clunky for communication purposes, so while Gaia has some decent options, it's not up to speed with the big giants in social sites nowadays.

Mobile app? - there IS an app for phones. But at the moment, it's only for dressing up your avatar - none of the other functions are available. If you use this site for avi dressup, this is no big deal, but it could be better.

There's other cons, but these feel like the big ones to mention.

Lastly, unrelated but disclaimer: Most of these pictures are my own screenshots, avis, etc, with some minor exceptions - I tried to stick to my own content and accounts (yes I have Several accounts) for showcasing here, when not using official resources. If anyone recognizes themselves or a friend in here and wants it removed/changed/blacked out/etc just give me a shout.

Also, shoutout to @shyyren who features in a few of the screenshots, edited the economy meme, and is my current gaia buddy who encouraged me to make this post lmao

Generation 1 Week 6 Part 4

(A glimpse into the daily lives of Foxbrook residents...)

Yana adopted a little kitten named Eafs!

And little Amalie is now a toddler! (Which means she's old enough for her mom to bring her to the club)

Netta missed Porir so much she practically ambushed him when she saw him at the library. He wasn't as enthused to see her though.

Oydis and Kirke have remained close gal pals to this day.

Adoniram keeps trying to hang out with Filip but this is what happens every time he tries to visit.

Narcissus has gained a new fan in the form of Georg.

Gulnara and Aeneas were getting close with each other at the park. However, Ayaz spotted them and proceeded to collect some evidence...

As Ayaz was leaving the park he spotted Filip and proceeded to critique his appearance.

"What are those?"

Meanwhile, Aeneas and Gulnara continued making flirty jokes at each other until they were interrupted yet AGAIN by Georg who stopped by to invite his bro to the movies.

Gulnara was got tired of the constant interruptions and left to go to work.

Nazli found out she was pregnant! She was surprised to learn that she wasn't as nervous about it as she thought she'd be. She waited for her husband to come home to tell him the good news.

Meanwhile, her husband...

Looks like Oydis is having some trouble with cash.

Gwenith was dancing with a random NPC at the club when Hilding walked in.

*record scratch*

"Umm, do you want to, maybe, dance together?"

Aeneas caught sight of Nadia taking a picture of him and suddenly lashed out at her (for seemingly no reason).

Malati visited Tambudzai and brought little Amalie with her.

From what you've played, how was Genshin's story when compared to the others gacha(you've played)?

Back when I played Genshin all we had was Monstadt, Liyue, and the Dragonspine mountain, so the only story I experienced was all the Year 1 content.

The main story was... serviceable. Monstadt was completely uninteresting both as a story and as a setting, but I really loved Liyue's map and music and found the story of Zhongli attempting to retire to be a bit more engaging, even if still inferior to the rest that Liyue had to offer.

Genshin was very lucky that unlike other gacha games, it had a sandbox map, which meant it had NPCs you could talk to. The little stories found by talking to the NPCs were far more interesting than the majority of the main plot, it was almost shocking actually. You could talk to a random NPC walking in town and they were more likely than not to have an actual name, other NPCs in town they were related to, and occasionally even a random daily commission or quest line related to their little story.

For example, even the blandest white bread city of Monstadt had an NPC where it had this sickly girl (I think she was blind too?) praying for health so as to not be a burden to her older brother. Going to the fountain in a different time of day would let you find her brother, wading in the fountain trying to get the coins people would throw in. Talking to the brother would make him a bit embarrassed, but he would be firm that while this may look undignified he had to do whatever it takes to support his sister.

These little narratives between ultimately unimportant NPCs meant to populate areas not only helped make the locations feel alive, but were easily some of the most engaging writing in Genshin's setting. You were rewarded for living in the setting, for talking to all the generic townspeople and remembering their names whenever you got a new breadcrumb of someone else's story. It was delightful stuff, and a lot more complex than most players would probably appreciate given how so few of them actually are just generic NPCs without anything meaningful to say. This aspect of the game is what best leveraged Genshin's unique position of being a (and back then, the only) 3d open world gacha game. It was the kind of stuff that would literally be impossible for something like FGO or Arknights to pull off due to the sort of games that they are.

The sidequests and character-specific quests also ended up being more interesting to me than the main quest. While the concept of the Archons (gods) and their rule over the world as well as the history of a massive war between hundreds of gods to determine the Archons is an integral part of the main quest, it wasn't until Zhongli's character specific quest where the Archon war finally pulled off being written as a historical event with real consequences to the setting beyond cool worldbuilding / a way to explain weirdly shaped rocks.

But I already talked about that specific quest before, so I won't repeat that here.

If I were to directly compare it to the others Genshin was generally better written than the gacha I've played that didn't really try much if at all in the writing department (Dragalia, a few other gacha games I'm too ashamed to write down here) or tried but failed spectacularly (Punishing Gray Raven) but did not match up to the highs of the two mobage I've played the longest, FGO and Arknights.

FGO's best had Genshin's best beat when it came to writing themes, pathos, all the messy, meaty bits of storytelling that evade easy description and yet give a distinctive quality to Type-Moon's best, while Arknights had the far more distinctive setting as soon as its meh first chapters gave way to the insane worldbuilding in its side stories.

happy twilight Thursday!

today is a work day and something I'm thinking about right now is, yes just because this may be a daily blog doesn't necessarily mean I need to go into full detail about how every part of my days go. otherwise I'd be ranting about work for a vast majority of these entires.

so instead I wanna talk about... retro 3D platformers

a while back I came across a game called Cavern of Dreams. it claims itself to be inspired by retro 3D platformers. it features low poly graphics and textures with simple lighting effects, reminiscent of late N64 games. the gameplay feels very much like if Conker's Bad fur day was lighthearted and wholesome. what's also neat is camera controls are more reminiscent of later games, Mario sunshine and Zelda wind waker immediately come to mind for me. I've gotten through the first part of the game and really loving it so far, and the controls are probably the best I've seen in a long time.

but while thinking about this, I sorta made a bit of a realization... growing up, games like this were referred to as adventure games instead of 3d platformers. heck, I don't think I've seen the term "platformer" until around the mid 2000s. even Mario games I think we're more well known as action adventure games, or Zelda games being a puzzle adventure. PC adventure games tend to be point and click games, which is vastly different than what consoles typically offered. I personally think that NSMB for the DS may be in part why we now make this distinction as the 2D Mario games play vastly different than their 3D games, notably being easier to pick up and play.

but while on this thought train, I sorta began to wonder what sort of similarities that 3D platformers from this era had vs a point and click adventure game. what I ended up deciding on was: exploration. point and click games, you topically make progress by exploring the world around you and finding clues and solving puzzles by exploring the environment and talking to npcs. 3d platformers is... actually kinda the same, while typically focusing on item collecting, many similar elements show up such as exploring worlds and finding ways to progress by interacting with the levels and different characters.

while on that thought about collecting items...

a lot of late 90s and early 2000s platformers would feature collecting a long list of items. one prominent example is donkey Kong 64, which tends to be known as the game that killed collectathons. I have some thoughts on but I'll save for another entry, but I guess I will say that calling such games a collectathon very much misses the point of what the game is actually about. is it a game where you are sent out into a level and made to collect all the random items scattered on the ground, or is it a game where you're friends have been captured and your hoard of bananas have been stolen and you must rescue your friends and recover your bananas in order to progress while learning new moves and meeting interesting creatures who either help you or try to intervene. I dunno about most, but I like the latter premise better. (or maybe I out much more weight on a storyline for a game as opposed to the gameplay)

I hope this entry wasn't too hard or confusing to read, I guess I'm mostly rambling and jotting down bits and pieces of what's in my mind when I get a couple minutes of free time.

I'm been so active with my scenarios that i surprise myself. Here is yet another!

Have you finished the current event storyline? I skipped all dialogue BUT stopped at the very end and i must admit those couple of lines were all that matters.

They. Are making. Harbingers-inspired. Toys.

Okay. I'm going crazy just at a thought of Reader buying these. This Ask would become far too long if i put all Harbingers here, so imma do my favs!

Dottore walked to Reader's room to make sure they took their daily medicine. The first thing he sees is you sneakily stuffing something underneath the pillows. He gets suspicious and demands to show whatever that is immediately.

... Why do you have a plushie of him?

Zandik has more questions than answers when he picks up the toy. Reader explains that they bought it from the local market which just received an import of Fontainian toys. Upon closer inspection, Dottie realizes that the toy craftsmanship is exquisite and it's not exactly a plushie, but rather a clockwork meka mechanism with only a couple of parts covered by soft fabric. All sharp points were polished, metal is durable and high-quality. His curiosity is piqued and he'd love to tear it apart and find out how it was made, but Reader protests immediately, snatching the toy from him protectively. Welps. Fine, you get to keep it. You can play with it when he is away on a mission or all of his Segments are busy. His heart always melts when he finds Reader taking a nap, their arm clutching the toy close to their chest. Zandik can't help but feel a bit envious - why would you cuddle a piece of metal when you have him? >:(

Childe returned home and the first thing that caught his attention was a loud noise of arguing upstairs. When he arrives to the scene, he is both confused, curious and amused. Reader and Teucer are having a tug of war over a toy? That's a first - you two usually get along perfectly.

Upon taking a closer look, he notices that they are fighting over a toy that looks just like him. Childe quickly separates them by taking the toy away and while they say their "sorry" to one another, he takes a good look at the cause of commotion. For his surprise, that IS a toy representing him. Reader explains that they took Teucer shopping and came across this store that sold toys based on....... Snezhnaya's best toy salesmen and saleswomen. Unfortunately, there was only one Childe left in stock. After returning home, the two got into an argument who it belongs to.

Childe cannot help but laugh at the situation and makes a deal that the two of them make a schedule: Teucer gets to play with it for one hour, then passes it for the Reader to play with for another hour, and so on.

Little did you know, Childe went to the same store the very same day and made a pre-order. Less than a week later, Reader, all three young siblings and even Childe himself had a clockwork meka toy of the best salesman in Snezhnaya!

I wish i could write Columbina, Arlecchino and Pantalone as well (heck, i'd love to do all of the Harbingers HMPH) but yeah 😅 I managed to zone-out midway writing this and now i don't remember what i wanted to write for these three so... Maybe next time!

Harbinger stans are so funny, we see a random NPC mention the mere word of them and all of a sudden we're going crazy (it's me, i'm Harbinger stans)

LMAO DOTTORE 😭 You've never been good at hiding things from him unfortunately... and of course you have to give in eventually, embarrassingly enough showing him a toy you blew your Mora on (well spent though!) Dot shares your enthusiasm for the toy... just not the same type. You do not want him to open it up like a Ruin Guard and then get bored with it and leave it disassembled like his countless other projects! 😒 He lets it go... but he also can't help but wonder out of all Harbingers, why he was chosen for a toy. It must be that damn banker's scheme...

He does find your affection for the toy a bit cute... at first. Though he was interested in it at first, he's growing to resent it a bit... is it really all that fun to play with. Not to mention... he could totally make a better toy if he tried, the one you have would pale in comparison to his masterpiece! ... He doesn't say that out loud, though. Though you might find a better mechanism on your desk later down the line in hopes you discard that one to the side.

I don't think i could ever argue with baby Teucer he's far too precious 😭 He can have all the toys he wants I'll just ask my rich bf (Childe 🤭) to buy it later with his no doubt plentiful connections lmao. No doubt he's the kind of guy to buy out the whole stock and then give it to everyone in his family, and the neighborhood kids who adore him too 🥺 Bina would be ALL over this toy lmao she'd love it! But she'd also want a toy made of you so she can put them together in her room and make them hold hands <3 Arlecchino wouldn't care much... until she finds out you brought a few for the children to play with as well. For Pantalone... you know that man already knew it was being developed he's all in the market for it and everything, he's getting that Mora I'm telling you 😭 He'd get one for you too of course ❤️ Capitano is the kinda guy who would play with it in private... (just don't show it more attention than any of them)
