And ANOTHER THING about My Dark Vanessa...
The part where Vanessa is in college and she goes out to a bar and some random grabs her ass... she calls Strane to tell him about it. He is the only person she's had sex with at that point. And he has so successfully groomed her that she feels like he will actually be comforting to her when she tells him about this assault.
But, instead, he just tells her that he's not mad at her. Because he views her as unrapeable. He views her as someone who was fully consenting at 15 when she couldn't consent, because that's the narrative he has to tell himself to feel okay about what he's done. He has convinced himself, and her, that she wanted everything sexual that he ever did to her so now when she talks about being assaulted in a bar, he can't imagine her not asking for it.
He also sees her as his property. Even when he repeatedly fails to claim and protect her in the ways she imagines he will, he sees her as belonging to him. So when someone else touches her, he only thinks she is telling him because she feels obligated. Because she belongs to him. Not because she is complaining that she was touched inappropriately.
Uggggh this novel is sooo rich.

About to fly to Miami for a Silo family thing that was planned before everything happened. Going to Florida, where my Uncle used to live for all my life, albeit in Tampa, not gonna be fun. Silo’s family possibly making rude comments? Will have zero patience, none, nada-

Joss Whedon is a prick, but this one story from Tales of The Slayers (2002) has been haunting me since I first read it years ago.
Tw: witch-burning, religious extremism, misogynistic violence

Gonna be researching an old bugbear of mine like a college thesis so I can complain accurately and give sources for every single point of contention - specifically because I hate the people who just make shit up and have their lies take off because they hit a buzzword.

oughh I agree so hard with you w/ death stuff. Tbf I've never actually seen a dead body close up or had someone close to me die so idk if my feelings will change after that but I think we're a part of nature and should return to nature after death
YA ive only ever seen dead bodies who have been prepared (in person at least, ive seen pictures of unprepared bodies) so yk. but ive lost a couple of family members and i just think likee. speaking from experience when you dont have the time with the deceased to process the death. it makes it sm harder to like. Feel your grief. bc yr so pushed into the like. Well the funerals over so grieving is done

"...but when I die, I’d rather be buried. My infrared energy crossing the vacuum of space is of no use to anybody or anything at any time. Put me in the ground, six feet under, and let the worms and microbes crawl in and out of my carcass as they dine upon my flesh. Let the root systems of the plant and fungal kingdoms of life extract nutrients from my body. The energy content of my molecules, which I had assembled throughout my lifetime by consuming the flora and fauna of this Earth, will return to them, continuing the biosphere’s cycle of life."

Today on my lone Laundryverse shitposting crusade we commemorate a very special group of characters:
People who had no idea what was going on and did not deserve what happened to them.
This list includes:
Random OCCULUS Soldiers Who Got Murked By Whatever Supernatural Nonsense We’re Dealing With Today
The OG Cassie Brewer, sent to Super Hell so Firstie could have her Dracula-themed whirlwind romance
That one cleaning lady Oscar and Mhari just flat out murdered
The old dude from Atrocity Archive that got killed by the summoning grid and his corpse puppeteered whose only crime was to not understand computers in the early 2000′s
Unicorn victims
The victims of the inevitable K-Syndrome dementia pandemic (has that kicked off yet I don’t remember and I haven’t read the spinoff books)
Various protagonist’s constantly slandered offscreen family members
Sarah Schwartz’s trans girlfriend who got subjected to microaggressions by a literal elf
Pete. Literally just Pete he didn’t deserve that shit
and many more...

'Ash is our purest form' (11.5.18)
We become dust when we are complete
whether burnt or lain under flowers
carried by wind throughout empty streets
past the vacant, concrete towers.
The dust is all that will remain
when the skin melts into the soil,
when the hair burns away without any pain
and the organs begin then to boil
The purest form that we can be
after we start to decay and rot
is a form that each of us scarcely sees
and a form that is easily forgot.
