You must understand my position, I don't want to be a hater, I don't want to dislike this fuckin thing, but it feels like it's laughing at me, it's making me feel too old to enjoy it, I am 22, do you understand how weird this is

Things I've learned about Ajax this week:
Heracles was his fairy godfather who blessed him with invulnerability
His myth of invulnerability predates Achilles'
Subsequently one of the earlier myths regarding his death was that Paris shot him in the heel with an Apollo-improved arrow
Other myths involved the Trojans simply burying him given they couldn't hurt him otherwise. If you can't stab a man into the Underworld, maybe just dig him door, shove him in, and block the way behind him.
His body being interred rather than cremated in the prevailing myths of his death by suicide might be a nod to that older version of his death
His method of suicide--burying the hilt of his sword in a mound of earth and then throwing himself on it--may also be a nod to earth being the only thing that can kill him. In this case, it killed him by wielding a sword.

There are queer things told
in the deep space cold
by the ones who venture far
I seen horrible blights
and gruesome sights
too dark for planet or star
But none are as bad
or as horribly sad
to make even a Deathsinger moan
As when thralls got squished
and ol’ Three-Eyes wished
on her Ahamkara bone...

Stole* this 100+ year old book from the library today. Just because it has my grandfather's favorite poem in it, and just holding the book makes me feel close to him again.
In case you ever doubted that I'm a big sentimental fool.
*it was being taken out of the collection anyway

Went to the cemetery with my mom this morning to drop off flowers and clean the headstone where my Memere, Pepere, Uncle and Nana are all buried. No one else ever goes to drop flowers, we do because it was SO important to my Nana and we’d take her every year to drop the flowers for the 3 that were already there. Now that she joined them in 2019 no one ever goes. They just aren’t “cemetery people”, neither am I but I know HOW much it meant to my Nana and doing this for her helps me feel connected to them all still. And scrubbing the lichen off the headstone and engravings is extremely satisfying to me.
Plus I get to hear stories of family I never got to meet as my mother reminisces reading all the names of family that are buried there.

oughh I agree so hard with you w/ death stuff. Tbf I've never actually seen a dead body close up or had someone close to me die so idk if my feelings will change after that but I think we're a part of nature and should return to nature after death
YA ive only ever seen dead bodies who have been prepared (in person at least, ive seen pictures of unprepared bodies) so yk. but ive lost a couple of family members and i just think likee. speaking from experience when you dont have the time with the deceased to process the death. it makes it sm harder to like. Feel your grief. bc yr so pushed into the like. Well the funerals over so grieving is done

love new wave cinema… to symbolize how fucked in the head our character is we’re gonna depict them in a curved mirror like they’re in a funhouse looking at their own distorted body. and it means they’re not good in the head
