BTS Among US.3

Summary: You have a crew of 11, well now 10. The captain has been killed. Whatever it is doesn’t appear to be human but from the evidence you gathered, whatever it is, is pretending to be one of you. Who is it and why? Rating: T (teen and up) Genre: Murder mystery, supernatural, comedy, angst, action, adventure and more. Schedule: Updates every FRIDAY EST./SATURDAY AEST. please get your VOTES completed before Saturday or your bias may be kicked off the ship. Anouncements: Sorry this wasn’t out on Friday/Saturday my life is honestly in shambles haha like today couldn’t get any worse. but on the bright side this one is long almost 2k.

The next morning saw Jimin in the cafeteria lined up with his tray in hand, you felt a little reassured after yesterday that he was not the imposter. The two of you had no trouble talking freely through your headsets while waiting in line for breakfast. Hoseok in his red suit rushed out of the cafeteria so quickly that the cutlery on his tray rattled. Across the room, the doors to the cafeteria opened and a figure in a purple suit entered elaborately with a party hat on.

“Jungkook what are you wearing?” You laughed as he struck a pose for you.

“I was bored and tried to spice up my suit,” His voice leaked through your headset. You were almost at the front of the line when you felt a tap on your shoulder. Turning to see the pink suit standing behind you.

“I hope you don’t mind, I joined your channel, I just wanted to talk?” Seokjin’s voice was its usual breathy tone, “I just was wondering, I have to fix the faulty wiring today since captain cyan is gone. I was wondering if I could go with you it’s kind of nerve-racking moving around on your own, and electrical is a scary place, I wouldn’t mind having someone watch my back”

“Uh, yeah of course” You were nervous, the same way you were nervous around Jimin. You retrieved your breakfast and headed out to the Admin you scanned. You had to scan your ID every morning and download your daily files. This was a task everyone did every day, Jimin stepped up to the ID machine and while you all stood waiting behind him, you noticed you didn’t hear the signature beep.

Had he forgotten his ID card? You pondered this thought making a note to address it at the meeting if needed as it was suspicious behavior. But you had been with him just yesterday so sure if he wanted you dead he could have killed you when you were getting your medscan.

Taking your breakfast down the hall and into your office you placed everything onto your empty desk and popped off your helmet. It was nice to feel the artificial air on your face, something you never would think you would find such a luxury.

Taking a deep breath you began uploading the files onto your computer and waiting for them to upload before setting the updated flight pattern, the pattern was still the same and instructions were similar to the day before. Shoveling in your breakfast, you got a quick call from Seokjin. Securing your helmet back in place you answered quickly trying not to cause suspicion.

“Hello, Seokjin this is Y/n how can I help?” It was your typical greeting hoping the familiarity would put him at ease.

“Hi, I was wondering if you had finished breakfast and wanted to join me?” His voice was nervous. “It’s just since captain cyan is gone, I have been taking over some of his jobs”

“Of course, where should we meet?” You asked, gathering your things, hoping you could hand back your tray to the cafeteria.

“Well, we could meet at electrical but I will have to put back my tray” Seokjin sighed as you heard a small clatter of cutlery on the tray through your headpiece.

“I will meet you in the cafeteria, I also have to return my tray” You walked up the corridor passing by Hoseok’s office, knocking on his door hoping to see the young man. The doors opened and Hoseok shuffled cautiously in his suit, you gestured with three fingers it was the channel you favored and he switched quickly, “Hey Hobi, can I return your tray?”

He confirmed handing over his leftover things from breakfast, you tried to give him a reassuring thumbs-up, knowing there wasn’t much else you could say that hadn’t already been said. He gave a weak thumbs-up back still appearing timid and the tiniest “Thank you”

You were unsure if the thank you was regarding the tray or the fact you hadn’t killed him. Shrugging it was something you wouldn’t allow yourself to dwell on, that would only lead to paranoia and impulsive acts.

You met Seokjin in the cafeteria and the two of you handed over your breakfast trays. “Are you ready?” Seokjin asked, looking at the instructions on the device in his hands. “We just have to fix a few broken wires”

The two of you made it as far as the electrical room before you were cackling and making puns, Jimin passed by holding what appeared to be one of Hoseok’s potted plants from O2 and the two of you waved at him as he passed.

The electrical room was creepy and you couldn’t help eye the vent on the floor, wondering if whatever it was imitating one of your crewmates would jump out. The two of you were fixing the wiring, still making puns, and talking about food. You were in the middle of connecting the first wire when the lights went out.

Seokjin stopped digging through his tool belt and found a torch for you to continue working. “That may have been our fault” He laughed looking around at the wires curious for any bad connections.

You tried to focus on the wires, trying to ignore the shifting shadows around you, the obscure shapes, and the faint creaks that echoed in from strange parts of the ship that you could have sworn were the vents. You instead tried to focus on leading the wire from where it had broken over to the other side making the necessary repairs.

At some point, your hands stopped shaking, and you were diligently working not allowing yourself to think beyond the wires in the wall. It was better this way, you found if you blocked everything out you would be

Between connecting the second and third wire you heard footsteps in the corridor. Turning and pointing the flashlight towards the doorway, you see a figure pass only noticing a party hat and the soft creak of a vent. “Jin I think Jungkook just walked past?”

“We should follow him?” Jin mumbled, moving to the door and peeked his head out, looking around after him “What is he doing down here, he should be in upper engines”

You had to still fix the wires and handed the torch to Seokjin to hold, freeing up both hands to reconnect them. Hoping that if it was your mistake for the lights being out that you could fix the problem quickly.

There was a clatter outside and Seokjin turned torch pointed at the door, he was visibly shaking as he stepped in front of you. “Can I get everyone’s location?” Namjoon asked, there was a pause before people began giving their location and company.

“Uh we are in…” You focused on the lights it was important you fixed the, with the last wire connected the lights coming back on. You whipped back around to see Seokjin clutching the torch still pointed at the empty door and looking out into the hall. He whispered quietly “I thought I saw something”

A scream rips through your headsets and you felt your blood run cold. Between gasps brown, one of your best friends said, “Hoseok’s dead.”

All of the crewmates rushed into the security office run by Jung Hoseok. Yoongi barged past those in the doorway effectively pushing you into Namjoon’s strong chest to see Hoseok's body torn in half and left on the floor.

“No no no, we were just talking, this can’t be real” Yoongi shook his hands curling into fists he frowned “I was just talking to him over our headset, he said he saw purple and brown, it has to be one of them?”

“Whoever did this, I will kill you,” his voice was furious but broke into a small sob. Jimin bent down to check Hoseok’s pockets. As his form lowered you could see behind him on the desk was the pot Jimin had been carrying earlier that day.

“I’m not accusing anyone but I saw Hoseok this morning, I asked him to return his breakfast tray, but Seokjin and I saw Jimin carrying that potted plant which is now on his desk.” You tried to keep your voice level and passive “That and when scanning our ID this morning Jimin’s didn’t beep meaning he didn’t swipe a card”

“I left him alive ages ago and Yoongi said the two were just talking and Hoseok mentioned purple and brown, I actually had my card but it was inside my suit and we can’t take them off in the event of a breach,” Jimin said calmly, he understood your point of few even if you were accusing him. Pulling a notebook from the chest pocket of the top half of Hoseok, he flicked through it. “I think you should read this”

You took the notebook and frowned. “They move through the vents and can see in the dark. DON’T TRUST ANYONE”

“We need to look at the blueprints of the ship to know what vents connect where” Namjoon said “Maybe then we can pinpoint who had access to Hoseok’s office”

“I was with Green we were discussing the samples taken from the last planet, we believe one of the objects we obtained has gone missing,” Orange explained “We were in storage moving to the cafeteria when we received the call”

“Seokjin and I were in the electrical, we were reconnecting wires when the power went off, I thought I saw Jungkook in his party hat walk past the door he could have come down from security through the lower engines after killing Hoseok.” You explained casually still not trying to appear too defensive.

“I was in O2” Yoongi explained, no one had seen or heard from him but he was the last person to hear from Hoseok before he died. Namjoon was also apparently alone in the admin without any witness’. “It’s a bit suspicious that he asked where everyone was when the lights went out as if perhaps he was trying to find who was alone and vulnerable.”

“Okay green and orange can vouch for each other and white and I can vouch for one another” Jin gestured to you the collective nods around the table “Black was alone as was blue and that leaves brown, yellow, and purple.”

“I was in medbay with yellow, Jimin asked me to do a medscan while I was being scanned. Jungkook stepped into the room, saw us both, and turned to leave.” Brown gestured across the table at Jungkook “That’s a bit suspicious”

“I went to see Jimin, he wanted me to do a medscan but I saw he was already busy doing a medscan and thought I would come back later when the power went out.” Jungkook huffed at the accusation of being called suspicious.

“We have to vote,” Orange said, taking charge, “we can’t be here all day waiting for another death?”

“Please keep in mind the incidents and comments addressed within the previous meeting. As you take your vote.” Namjoon added his voice lethargic.

FACTS

drea is from a family that places the importance of education and getting into a good college and getting a good job and legacy all very highly – and it all has to fit this sort of “traditional” view of success and drea just does not really fit it at all

and she never really has. growing up she was in her older brother’s shadow and was always pushing to spend more time on art projects or even artistic aspects of any other project. knowing from a young age that she’d love to be a creative of some sort but realising quickly that it wasn’t the life her parents had planned for her

which is how broadripple came into the picture. private school had always been the plan for the pearson children but boarding and catholic was a surprise. after her brother attended a boarding school, andrea knew she wanted to as well. she picked broadripple out. it was a good school, good reputation, good connections to ivy leagues. and the main thing for drea was that it felt just out of reach. a three hour drive wasn’t so far that she had to worry about her parents thinking she didn’t want to be around them (which was correct) but far enough that going home all the time would seem ridiculous, and far enough that their visits would be far and few in between. completely ideal location.

and so she’s been at broadripple for three years and is arguably and completely different girl than she was when she started. given the freedom of distance from her parents she came into her own, quickly became more confident, unapologetic, leaned more into her creative side and flourished. though she wont admit it, and she often thinks the place is very intense and weird and so are the people: she loves broadripple.

that being said she’s fucking reconsidering that stance since they’ve sent her to go sleep in some ugly ass cabins lmao

HEADCANONS

reformed hoe, p much up until everyone went home for a few weeks because of bugs in the dorms she would have still been out here being a hoe and now she’s not or she’s trying not to be

drea has a very big cool girl complex (a la amy dunne cool girl monologue in gone girl), she wants everyone to think she’s cool, especially guys. she’ll pretend things are her own decisions and that she has to be convinced to do stuff but she’ll pretty much do anything if it means someone is going to think she’s a “cool girl” – she’s starting to outgrow this a little bit but we shall see

hates bugs so fucking much, she’s gonna be suffering in the cabins and with the knowledge that there are bugs all over the dorms. everyone will hear her screaming over the tiniest, harmless bug – will also throw whatever she can reach at a bug to kill it

regular sleep schedule ? never heard of her. drea stays up to stupid o’clock most nights and is not a functional person in the morning because of it rip to anyone who has to deal with her before she can get some caffeine into her

though she can be a bit blunt, judgemental, and sometimes even cold: overall, she’s a jokester. she likes to have fun, and let loose

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RETREAT

What do they think about The Retreat? she’s of two minds about it because on one hand she’s glad to be away from home and reunited with her friends. on the other she doesn’t like just hanging out in the woods, and thinks the nighmore-ians are totally creepy and weird and doesn’t know if she really wants to stay in their weird abandoned cabins but will likely settle once she’s sitting around a campfire making jokes.

Do they have any previous experience with camping or other outdoors? no, not at all really. the pearsons arent big campers, preferring to stay close to work and the city so they don’t miss anything. drea has spent a bit of time on boats but mainly sunbathing, not any sort of survival skills. the most experience she has with the outdoors is sneaking through the woods back to campus after a party.

What does their cabin bunk look like? How will they decorate their space? a mess most likely. she has a lot of clothes and would have tried to shove as much as she could into one bag but that bag would quickly spread out once settled. she’s got a few postcards of places she’s never been stuck on the wall over her bad as well as a couple drawings done by either herself or jay.

Do they believe in the supernatural? To what degree? if asked, she’d say no absolutely not. and that’s mostly true. she doesn’t believe in ghosts, she doesn’t believe in monsters, she doesn’t even really believe the Edith Lynch story. but i think given the right circumstances (alone in the woods at some creepy cabins and hearing things for example) she would believe in that moment.

Are they easily spooked? yes and no. she’d be spooked by bugs or gross things, but not really by things jumping out at her and most weird noises she thinks she can explain away anyway.

FACTS

when they were young, liluye would never have pictured a place like broadripple being a part of their life. they grew up in the deserts of arizona, living between the outskirts of phoenix and the san carlos apache indian reservation, between two family homes. the thick forests of rural massachusetts felt like an entire world away, something they might never see.

they were always an active child, always moving. either to something or away from. and they thrived in a team, really the only way an otherwise shy child ever made any friends. they tried out all sorts of sports but nothing ever really compared to running. they loved to stretch their long limbs out on different trails and feel the wind through their hair.

when they were nine they pulled their track and field team through multiple meets, and realised what a focus in athletics could do for them. it quickly took over their life, rising early and going to bed late each day to train and study. and they started to feel alone, solitary in that focus. a feeling that is still stuck with them, even though they’re just about twice as old now

they attended a private middle school in phoenix for grade eight and there liluye and their family were encouraged to apply for athletic scholarships to private schools for high school. and so they did. and that’s how broadripple came into the picture. liluye didn’t want to move so far away, not from their home or their family or the very few friends they had. but broadripple offered a full scholarship for all four years, and connections to universities that they could only dream of from claypool az.

so they shipped themselves across the country for school, feeling like a total outsider and completely out of their depth so far from home. during their freshman and sophomore years they tried their hand in just about every extra curricular, trying to find a crowd they could relate to. friends like they saw everyone else making. but they struggled. shyness and unintentional coldness preventing those solid connections from forming

eventually, they stopped trying so hard. refocused their energy on what they knew they were good at and why they were there in the first place. sports, athleticism. those were simple. they could understand those far easier than they would ever understand their classmates.

they have just spent the past year in florida on a sports exchange, only just returning to broadripple when they were sent to the retreat

HEADCANONS

they try to live very very minimally. part of the reason for that is they are so far from home. carting things back and forth quickly becomes a hassle if they have too much. they dont want to be too attached to anything material at broadripple or arizona, so they keep their belongings to an absolute minimum that way the things they are attached to can always travel with them. the only thing they keep that is not especially minimal is a small decorative box of keepsakes.

back in florence they have a pair of pet rats, both females and affectionately named alex and piper (after alex vause and piper chapman from orange is the new black ....... liluye is garbage u heard it here first) – they share them with their younger brother which very much eases the pain of leaving them behind for most of the year. when they facetime, a huge portion of it is their brother giving updates on their rats.

they’re an avid podcast listener, but they have an absolutely awful habit of pressing play and then not listening to a single word. more often than they would like to admit they just like the sound, using it as background noise. they’d really like to focus more on it, and actually listen to every word, but it’s hard to turn off

they struggle to make and keep friends, they always have. over time a soft childhood shyness became unintentionally harder, more cold. it’s defensive, thinking if they are soft but also such a loner, people will think something is wrong with them. and while liluye can’t say for certain whether or not something is wrong with them, they’d rather people think they’re alone because they choose it. just below the surface they are warm, kind, friendly, and whenever given the opportunity those traits show themselves

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RETREAT

What do they think about The Retreat? the place itself? liluye thinks its super fucking weird. doesn’t like the energy of it one bit. they dont mind the forest, before retreat they ran through lorehill trying to improve their trail running instinct and sense of direction. but there’s something different about the retreat, they feel as though they’re being watched there in a way they cant quite explain.

Do they have any previous experience with camping or other outdoors? yes but in arizona, camping and being outdoors in general in massachusetts is incredibly different. but that being said they dont really think the retreat is “camping”. there’s cabins, tables, a functioning toilet, a bus to and from campus? yeah, it’s not really camping and it’s really not that bad apart from the creepy vibe.

What does their cabin bunk look like? How will they decorate their space? as mentioned in headcanons, they are very minimalist or at least try to be. and their space in the cabin reflects that. they have an orange and white crocheted blanket over their bed. a small poster of the claypool rock tunnel (a4 size) and an old sun tarot card stuck to the wall over their bed. besides those things, their stuff is kept neatly in their suitcase and backpack and as much out of the way as it can be in the cramped space.

Do they believe in the supernatural? To what degree? yes, they do believe but it’s not something they talk about a lot. in fact, they probably actively avoid talking about supernatural things. they don’t like to invite any sort of negativity into their life and they fear disrespecting the spirits by discussing them. they’d rather a quiet and respectful relationship with the things they don’t quite understand.

Are they easily spooked? not really. at least not in a way that is obvious to others. a quickened heart rate, becoming more aware of their surroundings, those sort of things would happen if they were scared but overall, no. it takes a lot to genuinely frighten them.

FACTS

from pretty early on in conny and his twin sister casey’s life, their father was not in the picture. there’s not many memories conny has of his dad when he was younger, mainly birthday cards that had nothing but empty words inside them. his mom made it work for her though, getting help with the twins from her parents while she finished college. and besides the whole absent father thing – the twins had a happy childhood and have a happy family.

things became complicated in the last year however. after being distant for many, many years the twins father decided he wanted to be a part of their lives again. what they learned was that while they had always been struggling, working class people, their father had become a successful business man, married, and had another child.

of course there was bitterness, wanting to cut him out completely, but there was also a want to connect with a father figure they’d never had an opportunity to connect with in the past – and on top of everything, he was offering to pay for the twins final year of high school, if they transferred to Broadripple.

it wasn’t quite an offer the twins could afford to turn down, even if it meant going to school with their half sister who is nothing like them. so off to Broadripple they went with absolutely no idea what they were in for

after arriving on campus they very quickly became interested in all the Weird Shit(TM). conny had been a true crime, cryptid, and paranormal fan for a while, spending a lot of his free time listening to various podcasts on the topics and being at Broadripple took it to the next level, he even saved up for a shitty night vision camera to aid his exploration of the weird goings on

HEADCANONS

conny has a crush on almost every girl at ba – he’s just a hopeless romantic. they don’t even have to be nice to him. some crushes are more meaningful than others, but like let him borrow a pen and he’ll think about it for the rest of the day probably. tell him off – he is afraid but admiring

shares a shitty mini van with his twin – affectionately called the pussy wagon (amongst friends, he is not shameless enough to say that to anyone). it is adorned with a Lot of shitty bumper stickers which started as a joke but has definitely gotten out of hand if u ask their mother. can be bullied very easily into giving people lifts places

a sk8er boi – not a fan that the cabins kinda means he cant really skate anywhere but definitely brought his skateboard to the cabins anyway. because he’s an idiot

a horror movie whore a down right slut for wes craven, and just films in general but like especially wes craven horrors. wants to work in film as a cinematographer and has started that project by being a bit of a camera collector, has a couple on campus and more in wisconsin. a lot of the ones in wisconsin are still broken and he’s working on fixing them up but the ones he has on campus are in working condition. wants a super 8 because he’s fucking basic what can i say.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RETREAT

What do they think about The Retreat? Uh, he thinks its fucking weird that these cabins are just like conveniently available. he’s half convinced they’re walking into some cabin in the woods bullshit. but he’s a little bit excited? selfishly he wants to see some of the wealthier students struggle as they slum it for a bit.

Do they have any previous experience with camping or other outdoors? Not a huge amount but a bit. His mom works a lot so doesn’t really have a lot of time for weekends away and holidays and that sort of thing. he’s done a little bit with his friends from Wisconsin though, but it was essentially just backyard camping.

What does their cabin bunk look like? How will they decorate their space? like the rest of conny’s life: a mess. he’s just a messy person, he can’t help it. he’ll try and keep it contained to his space but it will occasionally spread out. also definitely brought that aforementioned scream poster with him.

Do they believe in the supernatural? To what degree? yes. definitely whole heartedly believes in ghosts and demons and aliens. anything more cryptid he’s kind of a wow that’d be crazy if that was real, and just likes reading about them and listening to podcasts and stories about them. that being said if he sees a big footprint in the woods he’s calling wolf on bigfoot immediately.

As they grew older, it became blatantly that Marcus was the odd one out of the McCarthy siblings. He couldn’t do the same things that his siblings could do, which created a rift of sort between them. Where Madison and Mason were unbelievably close (to the point where even Marcus would call them ‘creepy incest twins’), he was often left out. Although he feels resentful toward his parents for not allowing him the opportunity to bond with his siblings– they often forbade Marcus from participating in the same activities as Mason and Madison for fear of his having when they called an attack –it allowed to him become his own person away from them.

When the time came for his test: the same day as his siblings, Marcus already an underlying feeling of what it’d be: submissive. Another reason for his parents to keep a most watchful eye upon him. From that day, he couldn’t go anywhere without them needing a full schedule of his goings and comings, a full report of who he would be with, what they were like, phone numbers– everything. On one hand, Marcus can be a recluse. Due to his parents restricting his time playing with other kids and doing things a normal kid might do, he became fascinated with what were the basics of engineering. He took to the science of it all quite well, demonstrating a near genius level of intelligence. On the other hand, Marcus is generally just as dramatic as his siblings. Even though he likes to pretend that he isn’t, he inherited the same love for performing that his entire family shares, excelling in drama and singing. For him, they are the best active outlets that he has. They allow him to feel normal, like he doesn’t have to pop pills every single day just to keep his heart functional.

There was just one more problem with his life– being a submissive by blood meant that he couldn’t attend higher education, the way he’d hoped to. It took months of research before he finally found his saving grace– St. Brendan’s. A place for people like him to learn the things that they couldn’t before. He spent days convincing his parents to allow him to attend, before they finally conceded, agreeing with the liberal take the school had. And now– truthfully, Marcus couldn’t be happier. Finally, finally, he has a place to pursue his dreams the way he wants to pursue them.
