Pairing: Shuri x F!Reader

Warning: Just sad really. Angst. Self-Discovery. Self Doubt

Summary/Request: Our baby Shuri has been through a lot and she needs an outlet.

Author’s Note: I know i've been releasing a lot of smut filled fic but I really wanted to capture Shuri is her truest form ( in my head at least)

Shuri’s head rests on your lap, hands caressing the sides of your hips as soft African lofi plays in the background while you two are resting in her bedroom. One of your hands travels through the maze of her curls, aiding in a soothing feeling to the woman whose mind did not allow her to rest. You are currently occupied with a book that T’Challa had left for you and Shuri to read that he had written for you. A token of love he felt for the two of you as individuals and as a pair he knew would stand the test of time. Sweet but also five hundred pages long. His heart was truly in it.

Today was one of those quiet days for Shuri. She barely responded to her colleagues at her laboratory, her mind constantly wandered to a thousand different realms during council meetings and she couldn’t seem to find her footing anymore when it came to building and trying to help her country.

Ever since she had lost her last family member, everyday Princess Shuri would always ask herself the same question and always come to no definite conclusion: who am I? For the longest time, her identity rested in her achievements or titles bestowed upon her by others. She wasn’t necessarily questioning her abilities to get tasks or assignments done; she still excelled as a scientist and during her training with the Dora but that’s just it. Is that all she is? A scientist and the Black Panther? These questions made her feel as though she was experiencing an existential crisis at the mere age of 21 but in all honesty, it has been making her so anxious and uneasy.

Turning to Bast felt like a waste of time to her since she was abandoned by her family in the ancestral plane and the last words she heard from her mother “show them who you are” didn’t resonate with her at any degree because who is she truly? Clearly her mother saw something in her that she still cannot and the fact that she doesn’t have any family to help her navigate this journey of self discovery at times pushed her over the edge.

How is she meant to find purpose and reasoning in this world that doesn’t seem to stop taking from her? She’s sure that pretty soon all that will be left of her is her name. The advancements that she has contributed to the world of science have only made it easier for her to ignore the deep rooted feeling of confusion that she felt within the depths of her soul.

Sighing out in frustration, Shuri quickly raised her head away from you, sending the book in your hand flying and giving herself an excruciating headache. Grumbling under her breath, she couldn’t help but feel pathetic. Even when she’s alone with her love, her mind still plays games on her and she seems to fall for it every single time. Luckily she has been more open and honest with you about how she has been coping with her state of being but it has been getting harder and harder everyday to put on a smile and march forward.

Climbing off the bed, she went to retrieve your novel for you, looking enticing might I add, with a simple white tank top and pair of black spanx that showed off her incredible physique that she has been training so hard to achieve. Delicately grabbing the book off the floor, Shuri felt her blood run cold as she skimmed the cover, eyes darting back and forth thinking this was yet again another trick being played on her. To My Loves by T’Challa Udaku it read. That is the name he had for the two of you, even far before Shuri had mustered up the courage to ask you to be hers. Tears filled her eyes and they eventually littered the novel in her hands. Shoulders slouched over, shaking with no intention to stop any time soon, she made her way back to the bed and buried her face in your shoulder crying until she didn’t have the energy to continue.

“Awe baby what’s going on? Is it the book? I’m sorry he told me to show it to you once I finish. I can put it away if–”

The cries became heavier and tears came out harder as she dropped her full weight on top of you, squeezing you in her arms as if you are meant to disappear at any second and honestly speaking you just might. Her mind goes back to the love her brother had for the two of you, always telling her, “Shuri, you know you’ve got a special one and you need to do everything in your power to keep her. You two are a lot more similar than you think.”

All this time she has spent searching, questioning and debating her existence and place in this world, it never dawned on her that the one person who knows her more than any other soul she’s come across might be able to truly navigate her feelings of despair. Of course T’Challa wrote a book for you and Shuri, he could never once hide his adoration for how much you have been able to help Shuri bring out the light that has always been inside of her and he also teased that the two of you would one day reign side by side as the Queens of Wakanda. If only he was here to provide his guidance to her just one last time.

“How am I supposed to be,” she sniffles, eyes meeting yours tears overflowing from her cheeks and staining her shirt, “your woman and love you the way you deserve if I can’t even understand who I am? My mind won’t give me a break and I can’t keep doing this.” Her speech is decorated with hiccups and pauses, showcasing a side of Shuri you haven’t seen in such a long time. She is normally so stoic and tall in her presence but she is now quite literally in shambles, unable to get proper handle for herself.

It’s about time she broke down like this. She’d been trying to just hold these feelings hostage without any real release and now she can truly start to move forward even if she didn’t see it that way.

“How does being the world's smartest woman or a princess help me deal with the fact that I’m lost sthandwa? How does any of this black panther nonsense help me—”

“Baby,” you cooed, wiping her tears, heart breaking at the sight ,”I need you to take a couple of breaths okay? Can you do that for me?”

Roughly shaking her head in disagreement, she continued “How is breathing gonna help if I don’t want—”

“Shuri! Please. Breathe. Right now.”

One, two, three, four, she counted in her head. Maybe she was doing too much or overreacting instead of thinking things through logically.

“Everything you are feeling is valid my love.” She has been doing a lot of thinking out loud in her most vulnerable moments. “The last thing you need to do is worry your pretty head about how you can be better for me when I accept you for all that you are.”

Shifting around in her grasp, you reach for the love letter her brother dedicated to her. Opening to the first page, you placed the book in her hands.

“Here. Read it. All you need right now is a little something to ground you.”

Deep down, she still has not been able to come to terms with her brother’s passing so the thoughts of reading his words, knowing his voice would be speaking to her scared her more than anything. Sensing her hesitance, you gently rubbed a hand on her back. “I’m right here with you. Don’t worry too much, okay?”

Slowly nodding, she gathered herself to uncover the true last words her brother had for her.

“To my Shuri. Firstly you are mine. Everything that you are comes from your heart and nothing can ever compete with how much you have changed me as a man—.” She closes the pages, heart fluttering at his kind words but the feeling of his absence taking over her once again.

Maybe this is exactly what she needed. A chance to see herself through the lenses of those who celebrated her the most. She always held her brothers’ words in the highest regard so maybe he hasn’t completely abandoned her after all. She can already start to feel a shift within herself.

Bast, she whispers in her mind, thank you.

Maybe it’s not so bad to believe again.

Ship: Wanda x Reader

Ch 11

You had been staring at your computer for about 2 hours now. You were waiting for Steve to show up. You wanted him to know everything about this matter. You always trusted him. He was the Captain America after all. You were so focused on your computer screen that you didn't notice Wanda approaching until she tapped your shoulder. You gasped slightly and turned around. She looked nervous. She didn't say a word, instead, she handed you a cup of tea. You smiled gratefully and accepted the drink from her. She did the same and sat down on the armchair nearby.

"How's the search going?" she asked curiously. You hesitated for a moment before replying.

"Not great, actually. No leads yet." you admitted. She frowned a little.

"I'm pretty sure after Rogers show up he'll lead us where we need to be." you assured her. She smiled at you. She seemed relieved that you believed her innocence. You both sat in silence for another moment, neither of you saying anything. The awkwardness between you two was getting to the point where it was killing you.

"So how did you meet with Cap?" you inquired. She stayed silent for a while before replying.

"We met when I was working with HYDRA with my brother." she started slowly, her voice wavering slightly. She looked into her mug of coffee. "He and Barton helped me to get myself together after Pietro died." she paused. Tears formed in her eyes but she refused to cry. You let her collect herself, not knowing what else to say. Her story was sad one. Your heart ached seeing her like this. After a minute or so she spoke again. She had collected herself much more than you had expected her too. She sighed heavily. "They helped me and I" she looked up and gazed directly into your eyes. "I screwed up." she confessed, tears falling down her face. "I betrayed them. I failed their trust." she sobbed quietly. You quickly rushed over to her and embraced her in a tight hug. She tensed for a bit before relaxing into your embrace. She buried her head into your chest and gripped onto the fabric of your shirt. You held her close until she calmed down completely. You gently pulled away and wiped away her tears. You smiled at her reassuringly.

"You had a lot Wanda. After all losses." you stated before giving her a small smile. She gave you a small smile before grabbing a tissue and wiping her eyes. She stood up and smoothed out her outfit before turning around to look at you. You stared at her intently. It was clear something was bothering her. She looked at you worriedly, afraid that you might think badly of her. You stood up and walked closer to her.

"It's okay now Wanda. I don't blame you." you assured her. She relaxed slightly before letting out a sigh. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around your neck. She buried her head into your neck and hugged you tightly. She held onto you as if you were her lifeline. You returned her hug and rubbed her back soothingly. You didn't speak a single word. Instead you let her cry for a few minutes. Eventually she pulled away from the hug. You looked at her and offered her a gentle smile. She returned it. She wiped her eyes once more and smiled back at you before looking away nervously and biting her lip. You noticed her behaviour change immediately.

"Is everything okay?" you asked concerned. Wanda remained silent for a few moments before taking a deep breath and speaking up.

"I think I started to feel something for you." she stated quietly. You stared at her, shocked. Her cheeks flushed red. She suddenly looked nervous, fiddling with her fingers. You didn't know how to respond. 'What should I say? How should I react? Should I hug her? She doesn't love me that way, she can't?' you questioned yourself. You stood there silently for a while before realising she wasn't expecting an answer. Her blush only became darker and she turned her attention to her hands once more, still playing with them nervously. You finally managed to gather enough courage to reply.

"Wanda I think you don't like me. It's just,, I'm happened to only person believed your story. I don't want you to-" you stopped talking when Wanda cut you off with a kiss. Your eyes widened and you kissed back. You felt Wanda smiling against your lips. When you parted from the kiss Wanda rested her forehead against yours.

"I know what I feel Y/n." she whispered softly.

This isn't that funny. But it was to me so here we go!

It was the first titan, the one near Artazon. Of courae while searching for it I went up the cliff, while Arv looked in cave below. Then the titan popped out scary me so bad I fell of the cliff. I was perfectly fine! Teeth grabbed onto me and stopped me from falling. But my cane did break.. It was just kind of funny in the moment, made us laugh.

Seeing how well Ivy did in the later half of c21 which early eliminatees do you would of excelled had they been in the later photoshoots of their cycles I feel like Rhianna from c15 would've done well with the Italian inspired photos if I'm being honest.

That is an amazing question. I’ve always thought about the occasional model who could have succeeded, but never really gave it that much thought. I have made a top 10 list of those I felt would have done best (in no particular order). I only counted the first 5 out of a cycle with 14 or more contestants, 4 for cycles with 12 or 13, and then 3 for those with less than 12, and of course only did cycles without social media photos (so no 19 through 20):

Kari Schmidt: Kari had 2 great shots during her time, and proved she had a strong face and great body. There are two shoots I think would have been great to see: imagine her representation of a Bratz doll rather than Sara’s mess, and the swimwear shoot. I can imagine magic being produced.

Felicia Provost: Felicia proved she was a strong poser, with a dancer background during her brief tenure. The aboriginal and swimsuit photoshoots could have been well suited to her.

Victoria Marshman: Victoria clearly had high fashion potential, and I think she’d have brought a unique spin to so many shoots: the fashion gargoyles and Great Wall shoots stand out as ones who could have slayed.

Courtney Davies: Courtney had been doing so well (even if I don’t think she was as strong as most) and was one of the stand outs. I think she could have killed the next two shoots, as well as the underwater shoot.

Gabrielle Kniery: Based on her look and casting week I think Gabrielle had potential to do really well. It had a lot of strong shoots, but I’d have loved to see her shadow shot as well as her perfume shot.

Rhianna Atwood: I totally agree with you. I think she would have killed the last 3 shoots in Italy, as well as the Rodeo Drive shoot and the wrestling shoot. Pretty much every shoot afterwards seemed possible for her to succeed in, except maybe the commercial…

Ava Capra: A lot of the early outs this cycle were up for consideration, but Ava proved herself the most. Had her hair not been butchered, I think she could have killed the dolls shoot, and brought her commercial beauty to the mothers and Zappos Couture shoots.

Cherish Waters: May be personal preference, but I really would loved to have seen Cherish do the supermarket one. Her face was so strong, and I think she could have carried the extreme fashion.

Justine Biticon: Justine had a stronger look than deserving of a first elimination, and I think she could have done well in a lot of the more youthful, urban shoots: the gym, jet and Gypsy sport shoots especially.

Coura Fall: This girl had all the potential in the world, but never really proved it in a shot. I think some of the later shoots were far more tailored for her: the parachute, gold paint and spider shoots. They just had a more high fashion edge.

These are entirely my guesses, and there are tonnes. I think the more recent seasons especially have had a higher quantity of contestants who would have done well. This might be down to poor judging recently, or the fact more contestants come in model ready, with a lot of early outs from the first few seasons just not having the transformation.

1. Beauty Sandwiches

Tyra’s welcomes the girls to panel where the judges will assess their “beauty sandwiches.” Why would anyone other than a cannibal would refer to a shot with three heads as a sandwich? Tyra must really be hungry because will she not drop the sandwich metaphor.

When the first group steps up for its critique, Tyra asks what kind of sandwich they are. Jeana says their sandwich has lots of ketchup. I’m not sure what that means… unless it has something to do with menstruation, in which case I don’t want to get it. Rio says there were also extra onions, and Tyra pretends she can smell their breath from 20 feet away.

Tyra also wants to know what kind of sandwich the next group is, and Shanice says they are a Baconator. Baconator? Between Shanasty, Erin, and Christina, there aren’t any fatties in the group. If Shanice wanted to go with fast food, she should have said a McRib. Shanice explains it’s because Christina is the “lettuce” with her green hair, even though Wendy’s doesn’t even bother pretending that the Baconator is in any way healthy by throwing something green on it.

You can see Christina laugh at Shanice’s lettuce comment, then Law asks if it was meant to be shade, and suddenly we see Christina frowning. Yeah whatever, that’s twice in one episode the editors have been sloppy with that kind of shit.

Not that Christina doesn’t have reason to frown. The judges don’t like how Christina is smooshing her partners. Erin explains that “being in the middle of a sandwich is very difficult.” Yeah, you don’t know how bad peanut butter and jelly have it! It does kind of look like Christina is lying limply on top like a piece of lettuce and Erin’s face is no longer her face, according to Tyra because it’s squashed.

Christina defends herself by explaining that she works out daily, a point that Drew and Law immediately laugh off as being irrelevant. I get why she’s saying it, though, because even though we’re only looking at faces in the photo, the top person especially has to pretty much be doing some weird yoga pose to fit into the shot. Plus, Shanice just straight up called Christina lazy. Ashley jumps in to say, “I work out too, but it’s not like I have to advertise.” Except that she just found a dumber excuse to point out that SHE works out than Christina did.

Law concludes that their sandwich is a panini because it’s all smooshed. That’s easily Law’s best joke of the night, and notice how it includes no mention of bottoming!

We don’t hear how the next groups refers to their sandwich, but I’m going to go ahead and say it’s turkey on white bread with a lot of mayo. Surely it’s not a coincidence that the only three (all) white contestants are grouped together. Maybe we should call it the Trump? It’s got an ignorant base, an attractive model with a whacky accent as garnish, and it’s topped off with some angry trailer park resident.

Challenge winner Sandra, along with Kyla, has the “advantage” of posing with Ashley Graham for her sandwich. Much like Khrystyana’s “advantage” of getting to pick an extra team member during the YouTube challenge where standing out was key, I don’t consider it an advantage at all. I mean, you know the judges are going to say Ashley outshines you no matter what - heck, Tyra even gives Ashley honorary top call-out. Not to mention they’re going to choose whatever Ashley’s best photo is, so you’ve got to hope that you happen to look good in that shot.

Which brings me to another important point that I’m sure I’ve mentioned in the past - group shots on this show are so bogus. You have to evaluate each woman’s best individual shots for this to be fair. I’m sure Coura had better shots than the one in which Rio looked her awesomest.

Tyra doesn’t make the women explain their sandwich (obviously, it’s a s’more with that Graham cracker and a couple golden brown marshmallows) but she does have visions of spinning off a reality show following Ashley, Sandra, and Kyla’s lives. That sounds hella boring, Tyra, do not make it happen. Law thinks they make for a good “beauty at any age” campaign since Kyla looks so young and… well, the implication is that Ashley’s really old, even though she’s barely 30 and younger than a few of the contestants. Law brought up shade incorrectly earlier, but THAT was the real shade.

However, Ashley seems more offended by Kyla calling her “regular” in a botched attempt to gush about how normal a celebrity like Ashley is.

“I’m not basic, but I’m regular” should be the go-to comeback to anyone being called basic from now on.

After all this sandwich talk, no one bothers to flip the sandwich question around on Tyra. If Tyra were a sandwich, she’d be a Banh me-me-me-me-me.

When making that joke, I decided to see if Tyra’s ever been to Vietnam and here’s what I found:

Damn, Tyra, the Hanoi traffic ain’t the scariest part of that photo. It’s like she either is an alien or just saw one.

Unfortunately, it’s this cycle’s extraterrestrial that gets the boot for being the spoiled deli meat in her group’s sandwich. At least Tyra gets to call her an alien a few more times (Coura is “not a human being” and “came from somewhere in the celestial skies”) before sending her back to her home planet. At least she didn’t leave on an empty stomach!

id love to hear the order of how you think elimination is going to be!! But Id say Jeana is going to win or at last top 3, and the other to Kyla and Khrystyana

Umm, this cycle is a bit more difficult to read than last cycle. I remember I knew within seconds of seeing Tatiana and India’s interviews that they would be the final two, but I didn’t get any such vibes this time. The only thing that was painfully obvious was that Maggie would be the first one eliminated (none of the judges liked her, she had no real story for reality tv, and the “white homegirl” thing was such bs).

If I had to guess how it’d go down, it’d be something like this (though it’s probably horribly off):

Khrystyana - I go back and forth on her. There was a moment in this episode where I felt she was getting the Allison edit, but she’s literally the only contestant I can see winning. The winners are always obvious, and Khrystyana seems the obvious choice to me given she’s not stick-thin and she’s over 30, and also shows modeling potential.

Kyla - Her edit is just the right mix of boring and interesting to make her the obvious runner-up. I think her modeling abilities will carry her far, and the judges will use her to justify whoever they want to win, as Kyla is too much of a typical model to represent this cycle as its winner.

Rio - Seems to represent just about everything they want from this cycle, so I think she’s a possible candidate for the win in the eyes of the judges. However, I get the vibe that she cracks under pressure. Top 3 seems about right for her edit to me, so far.

Jeana - I think she’s the fake-out frontrunner. The one that’s meant to distract us from the real winner that is hiding in plain sight. Top 4 is usually the shocker elimination, so I think it’ll be her.

Christina - I think she’ll wind up being this cycle’s villain. She’s mild-mannered for now, but as the weeks go on she’ll definitely crack. Plus, she’s a decent model so the judges will be able to use that as reason to keep her around.

Erin - I think she’ll go far purely based on her age, as it’s sure to eventually cause drama in the house (Baby Boomers tend not to get along with Millennials or iGen for extended periods of time).

Coura - Seems like the frontrunner right now, but I guarantee that’ll change. She doesn’t have a reality tv personality, and she doesn’t match the message they’re trying to send this cycle. Too much of a legit model for this cycle.

Liz - At one point I would have said that Liz would win, but that walk…lol. She has the personality they’re looking for, which will keep her on for a good while, but eventually the judges are going to crack down on her. She’ll probably be in the bottom 2 a few weeks in a row.

Sandra - I think Sandra could land here, or maybe switch spots with Erin. She seems like she’ll have a few good reality tv moments, but none of the judges seem to be taking her seriously as a model. If her edit stays as bland as it is now, she’ll probably land here, but if she become the source of drama she’ll probably be more where Erin is on my prediction.

Shanice - She’s one of the ones I’m least sure about. The judges seem to love her for whatever reason, but I also get the feeling that they’ll cut her the second they don’t like something she does.

Liberty - The Trump supporter that they obviously cast to have a feud with activist Kyla. I assume they’ll keep her for a bit for the drama, but then promptly eliminate her because they don’t want to risk her becoming the likable villain. They’ll probably disguise her elimination as her being too “bland” or whatever, though.

Rhiyan - Who? No, but really, her edit is non-existent. I’ll be shocked if she makes it further than this.

Brendi K. - It seems like clients love her, but the show refuses to give her any positive attention, so she’s probably an early out.

Ivana - She’s super insecure and the show is throwing it in our faces. I don’t think they’re likely to give her many more chances.

Maggie - Obviously this already happened, but I would have guessed her as first out even before this episode because her edit was so dry.

I really did not share the sentiment of the judges regarding this photo. Yeah, it’s not a bad picture, but really, first call out? Coura’s gorgeous, but this is very ho-hum. I don’t like the pose; it seems really contrived. The way she’s stiffly holding the garment behind her doesn’t work for me. I wish she’d tried to make more of a shape with her body than the dress. Her face is also a bit vacant, and nothing about this screams “bohemian” to me. This is the point when I started to wonder if Coura was more of a runway model than a print model.
