Obi-wan immediately after he and Siri rescue Ferus from being kidnapped: Why doesn't Ferus smile at me when I walk in a room like Anakin does? Why doesn't Ferus tease me and make snarky quips like Anakin does? I miss Anakin so much, I need to find him right now immediately, I sure do hate being separated from him.

Bestie I got sad thinking about canon obikin so now I'm picturing all the times Obi-Wan must have carried Anakin out of danger like Anakin did him in rots. How easy it must have been to pick baby tpm Anakin up and leg it with him clutched like a puppy in one hand, and how much harder it must have gradually gotten as he grew older. By aotc that baby had so much limbs, he'd have to drag him so much more up and over so he didn't trail behind, but he'd have determinedly carried his boy as long and as far as need be. I bet he even petitioned the council to make it a rule masters had to be able to carry their apprentice 20ft like a fireman. These two were The Team. Mustafa was likely the first time he left Anakin behind ever and that fact likely haunted him among all the other hauntings. Obi-Wan didn't even leave him behind in death after Anakin killed him and had been the worst genocidal murder cyborg he could be.

the entire story of the relationship between anakin and obi-wan can be read in the evolution of the names they call each other. generally we use a person's name to them to get their attention, seeking connection, so it's possible to track who is reaching out over time.

in attack of the clones, we hear "master" from anakin as he chases after approval from obi-wan, and then in the beginning of the clone wars, we hear an evolution from "master" to "obi-wan," and obi-wan drops "padawan" entirely. their conversation begins to be more in balance, trading names back and forth as equals.

anakin begins to drift away from obi-wan later in the clone wars, and we begin to hear fewer and fewer bids for obi-wan's attention, and more and more "anakin" from obi-wan as he reaches out to him. their relationship has become unbalanced again, and then finally breaks apart. vader has a new master, and by the death star, obi-wan is in a place to call him "darth," signifying his resolution that vader killed anakin and took his place.

the heart of the story of star wars to me sometimes is the lifelong, evolving dialogue between the two, an ongoing argument and negotiation that only is resolved at the very end (in a legends book, anyway) with the first thing that anakin hears after death is obi-wan saying, "anakin," having accepted him back to his old identity and welcomes him to the force.

it's been kinda funny for me going from 2 very fucked up ships to sukugo.

I wish I had the time to write two or three scenes for this AU, with first the ROTS goodbye scene between Obi-Wan and Anakin, but this time instead of being nice and proud Obi-Wan is disappointed and stern with his reckless padawan, and a few harsh words are exchanged before he leaves his padawan behind to go to Utapau.

Then a second scene years later, where Obi-Wan finally decides to let go of his last hope that Anakin could have survived the massacre at the Temple (he couldn't actively look for him but he always tried to reach out to him in the Force, kept his ears open for any stories about a padawan who survived) and gets as gruff, scruffy and resigned as he is in the show. Bail finally convinces him to join the Rebellion and really, what does he have to lose? He barely uses the Force these days, but at least he could make himself useful there. And perhaps make some sense of his life, now that his padawan is not at the centre of it anymore.

Or that's what he thinks, until he has to meet his pilot for his very first rebel mission and he recognises the pilot's (dangerous, imprudent, vomit-inducing) flying style in a second. He opens himself fully to the Force for the first time in years without even thinking about it.

And then he laughs, incredulous. And runs towards Anakin.

Obi-wan and Anakin's (vaderkin's??) relationship as portrayed through this show post rots is like the highest form of separation anxiety like obi-wan is having hallucinations, anakin is quite literally going insane bc he hasn't seen obi wan in years mans you are OBSESSED like ik they've always been attached at the hip but COME ON its fucking hilarious to watch

I love Like Saints, Like Monsters! So, for the ask game: “But I will not leave,” Obi-Wan says, and Anakin laughs because surely Obi-Wan is not implying that he’s going to follow Anakin into the refresher. They haven’t done that since the third month of Obi-Wan’s return. “Left too much already,” he continues before Anakin can say anything at all. The words steal his own away from him. It’s worse when Obi-Wan leans back and looks at him with eyes that look—look clear. “We both have,” the alpha declares. It’s the first time Obi-Wan has ever alluded to his own capture all those years ago. It feels like a punch in the gut to hear. No, he’s never leaving this alpha again. Obi-Wan is right. They’ve both left each other too much, for too long. The jolts of arousal from this morning…it’s alarming and disgusting still. But the memory of them will fade if Anakin does not think of them too much. Right? Right.

this is from one of the recovery chapters of like saints like monsters, where it shows them together 7 months after obi-wan was rescued (after 7 years of imprisonment) and before the main plot of the story takes place

they're just!!! they're so codependent on each other here it's not even funny!! the chancellor invited anakin to lunch and then guilted/manipulated him into accepting and then held him wayyyyy past the time he told obi-wan he'd be gone but they spent like 6 entire hours apart!! it was awful!!! and anakin feels so guilty because he promised obi-wan he'd come back at a certain time and he didn't

i think this is an interesting passage and chapter because it's the beginning of a lot of things: palps finds out obi-wan is alive, they spend some time apart (the longest ever) which proves they're capable of it, that morning, anakin feels arousal when obi-wan is scenting him, and obi-wan is cognizant and healed enough to mention what happened to him -- that he left the building the day he was captured, that he remembers that.

and that he remembers that and has come to the same conclusion anakin has: bad things happen when they leave one another. (basis for obi-wan tricking the council into allowing him on the mission with anakin)

also it's important because like. writing lslm, i'm like ok ok they are going to get together in the end because obviously duh--- but to feel good about that i want to show that they're NOT together when obi-wan is at his worst....and anakin doesn't want to think about his master like that at all and is being really harsh on himself when his body betrays him

in the present time, i think he's still trying to think like that -- seeing obi-wan through his rut means cuddles, not sex, even if half of him would maybe like sex...it just can't happen

(meanwhile obi-wan really really really really wants it to happen)

The idea that Vader needs to reassure Obi-Wan that no, HE didn’t kill Anakin, is so interesting.

The death of Anakin was by his own hand. He saw the light and the teachings that “held him back” and decided to kill it to achieve a higher power, a larger purpose, and with it he killed his morals, his values, and his relationships. He killed everything in his path, but first and foremost, he had to kill himself.

And Obi was so devastated. Because, Anakin was his padawan, his very best friend, his love, his dyad, his very soul. To hear that from the man himself, that his Anakin was brutally killed to become a monster, is so chilling.

And Vader wants him to know, even through all the hunting and the burning and the hate, Obi-Wan didn’t kill him. Or was it a way to further pain him? Because Obi-Wan could place blame on himself, sure, but something worse is discovering he couldn’t have changed it. That Anakin would always die, because Anakin was the one pulling the trigger. It takes everything out of Obi-Wan’s control, leaves only their two broken hearts lying between them, still beating in time with the other,
