• HoV is completely shocked when she gains sentence about everything,, everything that she was looking to achieve was just a facade, destroying Humanity meant nothing now since what was she really destroying? Lines of code?? A game???

• She didn't know what to do, since none of it would matter. She would just be wasting her time, but that was until she saw you! You were real.. You are the only thing that's alive here, the only thing that isn't code.! You are what she's looking for.

• She thinks of you as the only real thing in her existence so that means you are obviously more important than everything else in her life cuz nothing else matters, it's not real but your real! You must be some type of God or something since you came here for her (that's what she thinks)! She's the only one who notices your presence, you are here to save her from her eternal suffering in this fake universe!! You are what she should be praying too, you didn't hurt her like this stupid world did, you came to save her..

• So she watches you for a while, just watching. She eventually was able to hack into the game and code you to get her if you wished or something like that if you didn't have her but if you originally did she will greet you on the bridge everyday like normal, but she didn't have her kind of mean original lines. They were more creepy now? It's like they had a weird undertone that you could never figure out but it's not like you had time to think about it anyways since you had to do all the stuff in the game so you would quickly just forget about it

• HoV is also willing to say slightly affectionate words if she notices you had a bad day, and in the dorm she'll be doing the little Macarena for you and continue saying 'nice' words. Even if it's a little embarrassing for her,, just to see you smile lightens up her day

• She also made sure to raise up her stats so she would be more powerful than everyone else in your team so you would have to make her your main since she gives you the most damage, even if you still don't use her, she will lower your other mains damage and anyone else that you use too until you eventually make her your main and than that's when she'll consider about raising their stats back up

• HoV is actively trying to figure out how to get to you, she needs to be with her savior..

• HoC was probably self-aware from the very beginning since you know corruption, code, it's quite easy to put together, that she was in nothing but a stupid game. A game where she was only made for entertainment and she would lose every time, there was no path for winning for her. there would never be a different outcome it, would go the same way every time. She saw through to that fact even if she didn't want to believe it

• She just lived on with her life if you can even call it that, but that was until she met you! You were playing the story and you generally seem to like her and wanted to get to know her even if the game blocked that! By the way you looked at her, she knew you loved her like she would eventually come to love you! You saw her as someone better than Elysia, you saw her as herself! She needed you more than anything else..

• So even though sadly she had to hack the game and make you get Elysia and then that's when she was able to give you her skin so you could put it on that God damn character and she would be with you now! It was a little complicating at first and she knows you would be confused but she knew you wouldn't question it that much since she was home! Your favorite! right?

• She would manipulate the game codes to make the bosses easier and for you to get more, if you're happy that means you'll keep playing right? All that she would have to keep doing is manipulating files in the game to keep you happy! She'll even start saying sweet words when you get on the bridge, praising you for coming back, telling you how good you look today! She can't help but keep talking to you in such a lovely way even if it makes you suspicious since she can't hold back her love!

• She's fully willing to delete characters to get your attention on her if you decide to go for another character or if you're paying to much attention to that character, since your attention is supposed to be on your beloved, her!

• Watch out because if you don't figure this out soon enough and delete the game, HoC will eventually learn how to hack into your computer and put her file on it so she's connected to the computer itself and even if you delete the game she's on the computer, she'll probably even put a little sprite like those cute little add-ons you can have of characters walking around and doing stuff! That will basically be her-

She’s my favorite character

To be a bit less meme-y and more detailed, her chapter in ER is my favorite part of Honkai— she’s hyped up JUUUST right, painted as this deranged mad scientist and villain, and then you peel back the story through upgrading the vessels and talking to other characters more and you realize there’s more to her.

I love that.

Mobius is undoubtedly fucked up. She’s lacking a bunch of morals, and the ones she does have, like specifically ensuring consent to her experiments (the Sim didn’t but the real one reportedly did) can be very… contractual. Like how she gets Hua to agree to experiments by pushing her— sure, she said yes, but she said yes because they’re desperate and Mobius is insisting, and agreeing to retrieve the box didn’t mean agreeing to get possessed for science. Obviously this isn’t true consent, but on a technicality it respects Mobius’s moral code. It’s like a kid getting asked whether they ate yet who pops a single candy in their mouth then says yes. Honestly I relate to that dhdhdhf

I like this contrast, though!

Another fun thing is that she’s probably the eldest of the Flame-Chasers, and the one who’s worked with MOTH the longest, and she absolutely does not have the patience to be. She’s also super autistic? I relate to her a lot. Did you know that when she gets mad she just plops herself on her couch and pops bubble wrap for hours. Iconic work ethic. I love her.

Her stubborn fascination with life and death leads her to subvert some mad scientist tropes, for example her insistence to humanize the MANTIS. There’s also the way she treats her assistants and creations, very unusual for the archetype which tends to be all SCIENCE and no time to raise anybody.

If you paid attention, for all that she can troll them or punish them a little, she’s never cruel and nurtures them properly.

When she hears Fuxi and Nuwa messed up and tried to hide it she makes them copy the lab safety rules, this was very much a pedagogical decision with their safety in mind, not her taking her anger out on them. In fact I don’t think she really does that at any moment?

Even the Sim (more morally dubious already) attacking Mei is doing it with a set purpose, nothing personal. For such an overtly malicious character she… doesn’t actually act on malice very much lol. At most she’s very selfish, and her curiosity drives her to perform cruel actions, rather than an intent to harm. The rest of the time she’s quite serious, wants what’s best for everyone, on paper that’d be quite pleasant uh?

When there’s interpersonal friction it usually comes down to what you can easily read as neurodivergence; Elysia and Hua observe that Mobius makes no difference between herself and others. In other words, she assumes that what SHE can tolerate, anyone can or should be able to, which isn’t true. Struggling with that stuff is very autistic coded. I relate. It makes her struggles and everyone demonizing her more tragic, too. I’d wager that everyone calling her names and alienating her greatly contributed to her cynical ways, making the issue worse.

Despite all that though, she treats her creations well, and instead of trying to control them she makes a point of giving them the freedom to be themselves and supports their choices, even if she doesn’t agree with them (like trying to push ELF Klein away by showing her what working together would be like, because she thought Klein wouldn’t be able to handle it, but since Klein could she gave up and accepted both that she had projected her anxieties and Klein’s own choice).

Big subversion to mad scientist tropes there! This leads to pretty much all of her creations adoring her (aside from the Sim but like, self-hatred go brrrr).

It makes lots of sense when you keep in mind that she’s also a child abuse survivor. She claims she throws her creations to the wolves because even humans are only left to themselves, but she’s lying.

The sim sacrifices herself for Klein’s sake (both of them lovingly protect and raise Klein), the real one leaves a loving message for her sim, to the Gray Serpents of the early days she was so important that they dedicated themselves to understand what it would mean to follow her wish to be free by CREATING MULTIPLE CULTS, and they still lowkey worship her as their creator after 50 000 years…

Yeah she cares a lot. She cares a lot about Griseo too, as well as other Flame-Chasers, like Eden, Vill-V or Elysia (despite being annoyed).

Her relationship with Vill-V is also interesting, because when Mobius realizes she’s similar to herself, her first impulse is to kill her immediately. Ultimately she doesn’t, but it was really a “recognition of the self through the other (derogatory)” moment. She also warns Vill-V multiple times about the weight of failure, and I think she pretty much sees herself fifteen years younger in her— a brilliant neurodivergent scientist with a few moral screws loose about to get smacked with the reality of the Apocalypse. Really can’t see this as romantic but ymmv.

TLDR

My opinion is that she’s just full of interesting character depth and I just eat that up, especially since I have a particular fondness for morally dubious mom types that care very much deep down.

Sure! Putting it under the cut since it got a little long.

Dr Adaliah Silk (formerly Elysia Soros) is the head of the Aether Research Institute and the public face of IGORA as a whole, as I've said before. She has two doctorate degrees (astrophysics and computer science) and a master's in aerospace engineering! All in all, she's a very pragmatic and intelligent woman who is often seen as friendly and helpful despite actually being the epitome of corporate coldness. She's also quite curious about the possibility of alternate realities!

She has a couple of AIs she's programmed for various reasons! Their names are Azalea (her admin), Tocelyn (her personal assistant/pet fox), Maximilian (speech/language pathologist). She also has Del (space exploration), Tey (repair), and Sar (repair), who all belong to @packedlunchmeat!

All of her children hate her, with the exception of Azalea and Tocelyn. She's a bad mother (not a maternal bone in her body). Most of her kids have been kidnapped at least once.

Silk is one of those people who really likes to bully the people under her but in the way of like. she pretends she's just playing or it's an inside joke. For example, on April Fool's Day, she pays her interns in Monopoly money. Objectively not funny to the person missing out on a day's worth of pay, but hilarious to her.

Silk has three siblings! They're named Lysander (who works as IGORA's lawyer), Valeria (a history teacher), and, of course, Dr Tussah.

And Dr Caspian Tussah (formerly Aurelius Soros) is the head of the Nautilus Research Institute! He's more seen than heard, because he's not as good at the whole. politics thing. He's really just here to study fish! He has two doctorates (marine biogeochemistry and computer science) and a master's in oceanography.

Tussah is typically thought of as the hardass out of the two, but he's actually not. He's not soft, but he's definitely nicer (potentially attributed to his better work-life balance lol). The bar was on the floor, though. He has a pretty decent relationship with most of his employees but he's also prone to outbursts of violence (namely hitting people across the shins with his cane).

He's got a few AIs of his own! They are August and Tenebris, and they're both medical AIs. August is the sole surviving AI from the Coelacanth disaster (and that's a whole story on its own, honestly). He probably has more by this point but I can't remember them right now 😭

Tussah also did the physical designs for all of Silk's programs! He's an artist. Silk doesn't care about aesthetics but her brother very much does. If not for Tussah, all of Silk's AIs would be just. blobs or stick figures. The only one she designed was Tocelyn, by way of origami.

Silk's birthday is May 30th, and she's 38 years old! Tussah's is July 3rd and he's 36! They don't tell people they're siblings and keep it a secret, so there are a lot of bets around the office about if they're siblings, lovers, or old friends.

niya does not care about most people. while they do have something resembling a moral code that they abide by in terms of how to treat others, they ultimately view most people around them as tools they can use. if they see someone dying and they can help, or the strong attacking the weak, they’ll interfere, but beyond life - and - death happenings such as that, the vast majority of people do not matter to niya as individuals. even most people she’s on ‘friendly’ terms with aren’t even people in her head, just things to use. whether that’s something they can use in the fight against the fatui — allies, ‘friends’ — or just to entertain themself.

the only people niya actually gives a shit about by default are the traveler and jean, and jean only because jean infuriates her. anyone else — kaeya, elysia, ningguang, etc — exist, to niya, solely to entertain or be used by her. ( obviously there are individual muses for whom this is not true; @wanmins’s xiangling is adored by niya, but by and large — )

this isn’t to say niya is pointlessly or excessively cruel in their day to day. she can be mocking or dismissive, but just because she subconsciously doesn’t consider you a person doesn’t mean she's going out of her way to be a dick. it just means that she won’t pry or prod into another’s business if it doesn’t benefit her, because who gives a shit? it just means that if she acts like she views you as an actual friend, she’s probably being manipulative. it just means that if you need her help, you'll probably have to pay for it. but she’s such a good mimic — who even cares!! after all, there’s no niya, just masks, so it’s not like the specifics of her views matter.

Uh. So. No fic today.

The story would have been done if I had any self-control. The last few fics have been like 5k, but this one is already 10k, and I think there's gonna be at least another 5k in it. Soooooo next week new story should be up!

In the meantime uhhhhhhhhhhhhh *pulls out AU wheel* let's do fuckin uhhhh Flame Chasers Mafia AU (With bonus dating Kalpas because it wouldn't be me if there wasn't Kalpas in everything)

Also before you read this it got WAY out of hand I am sorry I don't know why it's so damn long

ok. so.

KEVIN

Obviously Kevin is the head of the family

He's known for literally icing people

like any bodies he leaves are either hacked to pieces and thrown in a freezer

or frozen to death with liquid nitrogen

luckily, he doesn't actually handle that sort of business very often

Doesn't like handling negotiations, and honestly isn't very good at them

Definitely the scariest member of the family, though, and has some part in every fight, even if he's not in it

Started fighting the Honkai Family because they ran the city and were taking advantage of everyone

Kevin was having none of that

So really, he doesn't care about any of the criminal activities people in the Moth family get up to, so long as it's leading to the downfall of the Honkai Family

Also because this was the reason he started, he refuses to raise any fees. He still charges a protection fee, but once it's set, that's where it's staying.

ELYSIA

Runs a brothel

Several brothels

She manages them, but she's not opposed to using her looks to get what she wants

Has the beat cops around her little finger just by giving them a smile

Generally prefers spending time around her businesses than at any of the mafia bases

Which means that a lot of the big-time operations she's been a part of were planned in the back room of one of her brothels

She actually met Kevin and joined because he and his small group came to collect from her, and she couldn't charm her way out of paying like she had with the Honkai Family.

TAKES. CARE. OF. HER. PEOPLE.

She'll give anyone a chance, so long as they follow her rules, and she will make sure everyone is doing alright.

Anyone who doesn't follow her rules will get booted, but she has a "the more the merrier" mentality about her work

Rarely has to threaten customers, no one wants to disappoint her

Even though she's just as much of a threat as Kevin, she doesn't like getting her hands dirty

Going to "Elysia's bedroom" is code for "Elysia's about to take you around back and kill you"

It was originally a joke made by some recruits about how she sleeps around, but now it's a serious threat

Yes she's part of the mafia, but she does not tolerate trafficking

From any member of the family

This is one situation she will gladly get her hands dirty

APONIA

Aponia is often the one who determines punishment within the family

Especially if it's over an issue that isn't big enough to bother Kevin over

More of a second in command than Elysia is, just because she's seen around more often, and has more of a presence

Doesn't take part of many operations, mostly keeps to herself, but she sure knows how to make people behave

Don't even try to lie to her about having done something, she knows when you're lying, she knows when you've betrayed the family, and you're only gonna make the punishment worse

Aponia's "discipline" can make any member of the family tremble in their boots

Even without laying a hand on someone, she knows how to make people comply

She mostly keeps order within the family itself, but if there's any dealings with other groups that break contracts, she's the one they have to answer to

They wish they were dealing with Kevin.

Outside of that responsibility, she doesn't do much

Doesn't like fighting, so she won't unless she has to defend herself

Which she totally can, someone only tried to assassinate her once. She's been left alone since

Doesn't really like going outside her office

Her office is known as "the deep end"

Because of course it is

It's plastered with pictures from Griseo. Walking in, you'll think Aponia is super nice

Walking out, you'll think she's a demon.

EDEN

Has several speakeasies

Some are standalone, some are in Elysia's establishments

the two have been working together since before Kevin came along

Focuses on wine, but she also has spirits that no one else can get

This means she deals in information a lot

Pardo will hang around the bars to get this information

But Pardo, Eden, and Elysia form the main information network of the Moths

A lot of gangs in the area will come to her bars because there's nowhere else to get booze

Meaning a lot of people owe her a lot of favors

Always has her guns on her, but like Elysia, often times her smile is more threatening

Has nearly everyone falling at her feet, but shows little to no interest

May or may not leave her bar drunk every night

It's ok, if you stay late enough, she'll start singing, and it's not that drunken screeching most patrons have

Has a record deal and is a known singer in her "civilian" life

So she's well known in the underground as well as the general public

There are patrons who will visit her bars just to hear her sing

One of her shared bars with Elysia has a stage for performances, so she'll go up there every once in a while

Refuses to go on any tours, and claims it's because she's nervous, but really, it's because she doesn't want to leave family territory

Between her two jobs, she's very busy, but also makes the majority of the money for the family

VILL-V

Ok, clearly, she's the one to provide any and all weapons

Both buying and selling weapons, as well as making them herself

But she also designs every secret corner

Secret rooms, compartments, passageways, you name it, she's built it

Unfortunately, she has a habit of making them and not telling anyone

Including other parts of herself

So The Magician may know about a compartment that the Conductor doesn't

There also might be about five more drawers in your desk than you know about

And if you're trying to get anywhere using her tunnel system, good luck.

Also provides the defense systems for the bases and establishments in the mafia's pocket

Has a bit too much fun with the design

Once rigged a trip wire to fire a sub-machine gun that would write out "property of Moth Family" in bullets

EXPLOSIVES?!??!?!?!

She's your woman

Head of security, but he just wants to start fights

He normally looks like a scary mafia member, but he can choose to blend in when necessary

Which means he's perfect for working as a bodyguard, though he really doesn't like it

Usually works as a sort of bouncer or security guard at Moth businesses

He's also the one they send over when your payment is three months late, so maybe don't do that

Is also the general enforcer within the family

He doesn't like helping Aponia, but if she asks, he's not gonna pass up a chance to kick ass

Even though Kalpas is only ranked 6th, he's still the most feared and has the longest criminal record

Very Bad at not getting caught

most of his charges are arson

Brings his fists to a gun fight

No actually

Man can't fire a gun to save his life

He brings a knife but never even considers touching it

HAS YET TO LOSE A FIGHT

though he definitely gets shot the most out of everyone

"Kalpas is back" genuinely puts fear into the hearts of most members of the family

And irritates Mobius because she knows he got shot again and he never sits still

Claims he keeps his hands clean

Definitely has more sway with Kevin than anyone else does

So he might not be doing anything, but he's subtly whispering ideas into Kevin's ear that lead to your demise

Was one of the first to join Kevin's gang

Talks his way out of multiple arrests that would have put the family in a tough spot

Has at least half the police force in his pocket

The other half is probably being pulled around by Elysia

Manages money for the family

So he stops Vill-V from draining the bank with her antics

and Pardo

And also is the polite gentleman who asks for your money the first time it's late

"I'm so glad we could work something out"

Definitely has medical training, and that was one of the big reasons he joined Kevin at first

Now he doesn't actually do much medical work, he's got a lot on his plate, no matter how peaceful he may look

SAKURA

Sakura is like Kalpas in that she's a sort of enforcer

She just focuses more on one-on-one fights

Assassinations, actually

Aponia often doles out her own punishment, but if Kevin thinks you're an issue, he's sending Sakura for your ass

Of all the Moth Family, she has the cleanest record

As in, she doesn't have one

Has never been caught or even suspected in a kill

Even within the Family, she's not at all well known, most grunts wouldn't even think she's a fighter

She'll go out on scouting missions as well

So any time intel is needed for an operation, she's the one who goes ahead

Very good at odd jobs in general

At meetings she'll sit there silently, listen for any new issues that have cropped up, and by the time they meet again, those issues are gone

No one says anything, but they know it's her

So within the senior ranks, she holds a lot of respect, even though she doesn't receive any from the lower ranks

Which is just how she wants it

KOSMA

Splits his time as a personal bodyguard and as a captain

First worked as a bodyguard for Kevin, but then switched to Griseo

If the family is planning on expanding territory at all, he's the one leading most battles

Kalpas is one of the others that might lead a fight, but he's usually a bit too destructive for these types of missions

People in the area aren't gonna like you if you tear up their town

Actually, Elysia is known for expansions, because she's always the one to lead the negotiations, but the fighting part, Kosma takes care of

Spends a lot of time taking care of Griseo during the day but will run missions at night

He'll sit there peacefully all day, guarding her from everything

Then turn around and blow up a warehouse at night

Doesn't ever leave base unless it's to go to a fight

Sakura does all the scouting, and Kosma feels personally responsible for everyone's safety even though that's Kalpas' job

So when he does leave base, you know shit's about to go down

Very quiet

Typical soft boi interpret that how you will

But also goes absolutely wild on the battlefield

MOBIUS

Even though Su has medical training--and better bedside manner--Mehbius handles most, if not all, surgeries and injuries

She's super scary when she treats patients though

You took her away from her research!

So people will do everything they can to avoid being hurt so they don't have to see her

Which is a good thing I guess?

Kalpas is the only one who's not scared to get her help, but he's also the one getting shot the most

She's way overqualified for the job, but this is the only place she can run the experiments she wants

Has definitely done some inhumane trials on those who betray the Family

Once Kevin let her have someone as a form of torture to get answers

The person cracked before she even started

She's not allowed to interrogate people anymore

Says she won't wake up to help someone if they get hurt

"Once I go to sleep, that's it. Close for business. Get shot at a reasonable time of day, idiot."

But actually will wake up at any hour of the day or night if she hears a commotion and thinks she might be needed

Side note: Klein is definitely there with her and the singular time they both were attacked it did not end well

The Honkai were trying to get them as leverage

Because what are you gonna do without your medics!

Get Su, but they don't know that

Mobius was fine until they grabbed Klein too

Went absolutely feral

Su was the one to calm her down

But she's been called a "snake" ever since

if you call her a snake to her face, she'll just give you a smile that sends chills down your spine

Who let her in here?????

Everyone in the family cares about her way too much

No one will say it, but everyone knows Kosma ditched Kevin to protect Griseo the moment he met her

Because he likes kids under the age of 12

Also, everyone in the family has at least one of her pieces on or near them at all times. Let's go through the list (you can skip this)

Kevin: keeps one in his wallet, one on his “I’m a mafia boss” desk, and two framed in his home

Elysia: At least one in every building she works in. Some of the brothels are named after the piece she’s hung there

Aponia: Already said she covers her office, but you know she keeps them at home too

Eden: Like Elysia, at least one in every bar, usually along the back wall so you see it when you’re browsing drinks

Bonus: she’s asked Griseo to do a couple of her album covers!!!!

Vill-V: Each personality has one and refuses to tell the others where they keep it

Expert keeps it in a secret compartment at her workstation and will look at it when she’s tired

Conductor keeps it in a false drawer in the nightstand

Magician keeps it under her hat how have the others not found it?

Kalpas: Inside suit jacket pocket. He puts it there because he always takes his jacket off before fighting, and he doesn’t want it getting wrecked

Su: Keeps it at home. He has several, scattered throughout the house

Sakura: She has a small piece she keeps in a locket, but also keeps one in her car to look at after completing a mission

Kosma: everywhere. Literally everywhere, there is not a single thing that man owns that doesn’t have paint on it, either on accident or on purpose

Mehbius: On her desk, when she’s really tired she looks at it and smiles, though she’ll kill anyone who brings it up

Hua: Inside her suit jacket, she likes keeping it close to her, and is a little concerned having a piece that’s immediately visible will make her grunts think she’s soft

Pardo: A lot of paintings in her house, though she keeps them in places Can can’t get to them. Anytime Griseo asks her to take (read: sell) a piece, there’s a 50/50 chance Pardo ends up taking it for herself

Has not once been kidnapped. Everyone knows Griseo is off limits, there hasn't even been an attempt

HUA

Leads the grunts and day-to-day activities, essentially

So she seems like she’s not super important, but actually has a huge impact

New recruits always fail to give her any respect when the first join

And then respect her a whole lot when they see her fight

Another one who’ll bring fists to a gun fight

Of course she knows how to fire a gun, but she handles undercover missions and you can’t get mad at her for having a weapon, when it’s just her own body

You know the Night Squire suit?

White blazer, black pants, blue tie?

Yeah

She’s wearing that, and it never fails to impress

Because she can dress well, she handles a lot of the everyday undercover missions where they want someone observing, or just sitting there and making their presence quietly known.

So like the opening of a new business that’s working with the Moths

Because

1: She can bring her grunts and make the place seem busy opening night

2: Regular civilians won’t look at her too much, but in the underground, her face is well known

Has been brought in by police, questioned and even gone to trial

Whole time she’s super chill and nothing ever sticks

She’s gotten extremely close to being convicted multiple times, but it never happens

Definitely works way too hard to impress the senior members (which she’s a part of but doesn’t feel like it)

When she’s left on her own or is leading a group however, she does really well

That’s why she runs her own operations

PARDO

Any sort of sale, she’s handling

Drugs? Yep

Info? Yep

Weapons? Yep

Loans? (Su actually handled those) but she’s the one who can get you in contact with him!

She also (somehow) manages a few casinos

And a handful of gambling machines in Eden’s bars

Su had to help her set them up, but Pardo runs them for the most part

Apart from Eden, she’s the other main source of money for the family

Her casinos are a scam, and yet no one leaves without empty pockets

In terms of information, she can be found either at her casinos or Eden/Elysia’s establishments

Nothing happens that she doesn’t know about

Kevin gets his news from her

For free because he is big and scary

But everyone outside the family has to pay

Her casinos are used for a lot of mafia activity

Business negotiations, money laundering, some of the drugs she sells are even made in the back room of one

Doesn’t really want to hurt anyone, but she sure does love her money

Also, needs some form of protection for her transactions

More often than not, it’s Kalpas

He scares her almost as much as he scares the people she’s selling to

She also brings Can to every sale

Which isn’t really a great idea, but it makes her feel better

BONUS: DATING KALPAS

If you aren’t part of the family:

You see him as a bodyguard in one of Eden’s bars. Originally, you were just there with some friends to hear her sing, but you end up staring at him all night. He absolutely knows. How would he not? He’s there because some fan has been stalking Eden, so the instant he sees them, they’re on the floor. Watching him take down some random guy should not have been that hot.

The next time you see him, it’s as enemies. Your brother ran a small-time gang that mostly kept to itself, but word had spread that he was planning on expanding to a new area that was run by the Moths. It was a lie, but Elysia had been sent to check it out, and Kalpas was her second form of persuasion if her smile didn’t work. The conversation between you four lasted hours, and went from politely skirting around the subject of murder to forming an alliance.

Because of that alliance, Kalpas was at your base a lot, sometimes with Vill-V (who was giving you guys some upgrades), sometimes just on his own to look the place over. At first, you were just offering to show him around the base, and the small area your gang had claimed. Over time, he started seeking you out as soon as he arrived, not even pretending he was there for any other reason.

Your brother was not very subtle in trying to push you two to date. He wanted a spot in the Moth family, and saw this as his best way in. As much as you hated that you were being used, Kalpas had definitely grown on you over the months. Unfortunately, the one time you both went out to dinner, you had both been recognized, and at least six people tried to kill you. Kalpas ended up handling most of them, but you were no nowhere near useless.

After that, you were hesitant to try asking him out anywhere for fear of the same sort of thing happening. He ended up inviting you to his house for dinner so the two of you would be safe. Things only went up from there

If you are part of the family

You work at one of Eden’s bars, making drinks. When Eden was out, you were in charge, so you spent almost every night there. Kalpas would stop in once a week to order a single rum and coke, and then he would leave. Having gone through this ritual a couple of times, you started making his drink just before he walked in.

Thursdays were hit-or-miss, in terms of customers. Either it was super busy (usually because Eden was singing) or it was completely dead, and everyone would come on Friday. Tonight had been slow, so you were happy to look up and see that Kalpas would be arriving in five minutes. Making his drink, you set it to the side so no one would take it, and then you waited. And waited. Until the drink had gone flat. Until it was time to close, and you had to clean the cup.

He's a senior member of the mafia, he’s probably busy, but that didn’t help the disappointment you felt at not seeing your favorite customer, even if he never spoke to you. Just when the last waitress had left, and you were about to lock the door, Kalpas pushed it open, almost nailing you in the face.

The part of you that had been working at a bar in a mafia town for far too long, was pissed and you would have pulled your gun if you hadn’t recognized him in time. The part of you that just wanted its weekly dose of cute guy was thrilled. Neither of you said anything as you rounded the bar while he sat down. The grunt he gave while sitting made you figure he’d been injured, and that was why he was delayed.

Should he be drinking? You eyed him for a second and then realized there was no way you won that argument, so you mixed his drink and placed it in front of him. Instead of downing it like he normally did, he took a sip and placed it back down on the bar top.

“Long night?”

He ignored your question and took another sip. You hadn’t really been expecting a response, so you just shrugged and went back to cleaning up for the night.

“Got shot”

You hummed for him to go on.

“Damn Mobius wouldn’t let me leave without stitches.” He downed the rest of the drink, and you figured the conversation was over, but he stayed seated.

“I’m glad you’re ok.” Carefully, you reached out and grabbed his empty glass, as though he would bite you if you startled him. Eventually, he left, and you quietly hoped he made it home alright.

Apparently he did, because next week he was back. Again, you made his drink, and he sipped it rather than throwing it back, and you exchanged a few sentences before he left. The same thing happened the next week, but the week after that Eden was performing. This time, he came in, swallowed the drink in one go, and left like he had before. He was probably just busy, but you couldn’t help but worry. Next week, it was quiet again and he spoke to you as though last week hadn’t happened.

“When do you get off work?”

“Usually around two, why?”

“How the hell am I supposed to take you out when you’re here all the time?”

It took some time, but you sorted something out. Anytime your bar needs a security guard, Kalpas handles it himself. He doesn’t trust anyone else with your safety, and no one is going to argue with him on the matter. The fact that Eden got so much of your time made him a little mad, but she wasn’t the one kissing you, so who’s the real winner here?
