First — I love your work and your account! Your characterization is incredible and I really enjoy your style. Second — Radioapple prompt! I know its a common one in the fandom, but I love the concept of them dancing/getting to know each other through mutual love of music. Not too specific, but I think it definitely has room to be cute! <3
A major sacrifice
But clueless at the time
Enter, Caroline
Just trust me, you'll be fine
“What is that noise?”
Lucifer turned around warily. It was always good to be wary around Alastor. “Music.”
Alastor gave him a Look. It was his “Don’t Be An Obtuse Idiot” look, the one he saved just for Lucifer.
He sighed. “It’s a song. The humans come up with some interesting stuff when left to their own devices.” He waved to the radio sitting on his desk. “It took a bit of work, but I managed to figure out how to connect this old thing to some of Earth’s music stations.”
Alastor’s ears twitched, a surefire sign he was interested and trying not to show it. He lowered himself down onto the other side of the sofa, and they listened in silence together.
And when I'm back in Chicago, I feel it
Another version of me, I was in it
I wave goodbye to the end of beginning.
“I’ve never heard of these instruments,” Alastor mused.
“Synth? It’s a pretty new invention. I believe it was heavily popular around the 1980s, and it’s gone in and out of style since then. What do you think?”
“It doesn’t have as much soul as a good saxophone or a piano riff, but it’s not horrible.” Alastor admitted. “I don’t suppose humans on Earth still listen to singers like Ella Fitzgerald?”
“Hard to match a once-in-a-lifetime artist like Ella,” Lucifer remarked. Alastor snapped his fingers, his eyes gleaming with pure, genuine delight. It was rare to see him so excited about anything that didn’t have anything to do with blood or death, and Lucifer drank it in like a man dying of thirst.
“Exactly,” Alastor grinned. “I see you don’t have completely irredeemable taste in music.”
“She’s fantastic, but you will not believe some of the stuff they have up there now.”
Alastor glanced at him with poorly disguised interest. “You don’t say? Do you happen to listen to these stations quite often?”
“Every night.”
Alastor paused, as if weighing his next words. “Would you mind a little company?”
The smile that exploded from Lucifer was unexpected – but not unwanted. And that was how the king of Hell and the Radio Demon declared a truce every night, between the hours of 12 AM to 1 AM.
—------------------------
“Boy, you’re in for a treat today,” Lucifer said as soon as Alastor walked in. “They’re playing electro swing on 58.3 The Breeze.”
Alastor furrowed his brow. “Electro…swing?” He shuddered. “Sounds positively horrid. Why ruin a perfectly good thing with extra noises?”
“Don’t be such a Debbie Downer,” Lucifer scowled. “Sit down, shut up, and give it a chance, will you?”
To his credit, Alastor did sit and shut up – for approximately ten seconds. Then he groaned. “This is a travesty. They’re calling this garbage swing?”
“Electro swing,” Lucifer corrected.
“No, no, enough of this swill.” Alastor snapped his fingers, and the song immediately cut off. “Let me show what true swing sounds like.”
A moment’s pause, then a new song came on the speakers.
Heaven, I'm in heaven
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak…
Lucifer perked up. “This is…Louis Armstrong?” Just the sound of his voice brought back whispers of slower times, of smoky jazz clubs and whiskey in crystal glasses, of dreams laid out on silver screens. Suddenly, it was the 1950s again.
Alastor bowed and held out his hand, every move so darkly dashing it would make Fred Astaire weep with envy. But his eyes gleamed with challenge.
Dance with me? Asked Louis and Ella.
Spellbound, Lucifer took the devil’s hand. He placed the other on his shoulder hesitantly, but Alastor’s grip was strong and sure as he slowly led him around the room.
“I want my arms about you, the charms about you will carry me through,” Alastor hummed along. The old-fashioned words were perfect in his radio static, as if the song was made for the two of them, for this very moment.
Relax, you silly goose. He’s just singing the song. He’s not talking about you, Lucifer tried to reason with himself, but it was exceedingly difficult to think straight with Alastor’s face so very close. His voice – oddly lovely for a man who specialized in conducting screams – cast a spell over them. Time stopped. And Lucifer relaxed, letting Alastor’s song chase his worries away.
“Heaven, I’m in heaven!”
—------------------------
And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
“You’re listening to this again?”
Lucifer blushed and scrambled to change it to another station, but Alastor materialized in front of the radio and covered the fast forward button with his hand before he could get to it. Damn those tricksy shadows of his.
“I…I didn’t hear you come in.”
“Yes, that is one of the benefits of teleportation,” he said, as effortlessly smug as always.
“It’s not our usual time,” Lucifer frowned, peeking at the clock. 10 PM. Far too early for what was quickly becoming his favorite hour of the day, although he’d never admit it out loud.
“Well, I heard a cry for help coming from this room, so I thought I’d be a good neighbor and pop my head in,” Alastor said.
“Cry for help–” Lucifer started indignantly, but Alastor put a finger to his lips.
And the damn song was still playing.
So when everything feels like the movies
Yeah, you bleed just to know you're alive…
Lucifer turned so red his entire face resembled a tomato on fire. “I can listen to whatever I want during my private time,” he spluttered.
“That would be true, but I can hear your ‘private time’ from the other end of the hotel.” Alastor sighed, as if no one else in the history of the world had ever experienced the pain of a noisy neighbor. “So I decided to check on you, just to make sure you hadn’t fully devolved into an angsty child.”
“It’s silly, I know, but sometimes listening to this stuff makes me feel…like I’m not so alone,” Lucifer admitted, not quite able to look the demon in the eye. “It’s been a tough couple of years.” Tough couple of hundred years, but who’s counting?
Alastor didn’t say anything, but he didn’t leave either. Eventually, they turned the radio to another station – Billboard Top 100s, this time – and Alastor’s horrified face at “Think U The Shit (Fart)” made Lucifer laugh so hard water came out of his nose.
He completely forgot about his depression. At least for the rest of the night. And that was enough. That was more than Lucifer had had in a long time.
—------------------------
The next day, Lucifer came back to his room to find an old-fashioned ‘30s vinyl record player perched on his desk. A vinyl had already been set up, its arm perched delicately halfway through a song, ready for Lucifer to hit Play.
Attached to it was a note.
As a thank you for all the new music. -A.
So Lucifer hit Play.
Immediately, the swing of the sax and Ella’s clear, dulcet tones filtered through the speakers.
Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on
I never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going oh-so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
The record stopped there, as abruptly as if the entire track had been magically wiped. No matter how many times he tried to reset it and play it again, that was the only verse on the record.
It didn’t matter. Had Alastor forgotten how ancient he truly was? Lucifer had been around for the dinosaurs, the age of ice, man’s first cities, and the launch to the moon. He remembered the greats, because that was his job. He was to live, and he was to bear witness.
He knew the rest of the song, even if Alastor had gone to such great lengths to erase it.
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly…
He smiled. And he sang along, letting the vinyl spin and spin until the words themselves were nothing but senseless sounds and only Alastor’s promise remained.
“Blue days, all of them gone. Nothing but blue skies, from now on…”

every love interest in klaus' life was so important for his character growth, all three women represented something for him, which is why they are the only ones he ever got truly attached (romantically) to. Just hear me out.
1) Aurora De Martel.
Tumblr media
Aurora was the remaining innocence he had left. a little boy who just wanted to be loved and enough for someone to stay. she was the first person ever he trusted to share his secret about killing his mother, because he hated being a monster but thats what he was, and he wanted her to accept him just like that. the first love and the first heartbreak.
2) Caroline Forbes.
Tumblr media
Caroline was the glory of immortality.
the love for power and youth, the feeling of being strong, unstoppable and fearless.
she was the only person he met that actually loved the vampirism and understood its real beauty. she showed him that even a vampire, a monster, can be good, can show love, mercy, kindness and forgiveness and that won't make them any less powerful. thats also besides the fact that they kind of shared the same insecurities, character growth and the trauma of nearly getting killed by their parents.
3) Camille O'connell.
Tumblr media
Camille was the fragile humanity.
another perspective of life. the human klaus wished he could have been once, full of hope, positive, confident, cheerful and clueless.
she was the person who taught him that its okay to be powerless, delicate and vulnerable, and helped him to find his own path to the light and become a better person, not for her, but for his little daughter.
All three of them were an important chapter in his life that could not be ignored or overlooked. such beautiful and powerful women.

hello all! i return once again with the is it over now? fic which just keeps growing even though i really wish it wouldn't. previous parts linked here: 1 2 3.
this is a sorta-continuation of the first scene? it takes place immediately before it and serves as the lead-up. we have some carolena as well as touching into the kinda love as revenge/war theme that is what this fic is mostly made up of. these snippets have been very barolena focused because i love what i've written of them so much (and their dynamic is easier to write. who would've thought?)
. . .
It took longer than it should have for Caroline's luck to run out, she decided as Elena dragged her to the girl's bathroom during their free period. She watched the pieces click together in Elena's brain in real time when a blonde in a turtleneck shoved past another in a scarf right in front of their lockers.
She wished the issue would never come out, but Caroline realized that expecting things to go her way was a pipe dream long ago.
Which was probably why she could barely hold herself back from laughing when Elena immediately said “We need to stop Rebekah.”
She didn't say anything for a moment, couldn't say anything for a moment if she didn't want to start laughing. She held her breath so long that if she were human, her face would've certainly turned bright red. Not the right response, if the way Elena looked at her like she had grown a second head was indication.
“Wait. You're serious?” It was unbelievable. When her mom came home cursing the female Mikaelson's eating habits she was able to just smile and nod—great pains had been taken to keep her mother out of everything that was happening with Klaus and her.
But the idea that Elena wasn't aware of the extent of it? That she didn't immediately put the right pieces together? It made her wonder if Damon was just as clueless as his girlfriend or if he just didn't care if Caroline became the next victim of a hybrid-related assassination.
She was important enough to the supernatural politics of Mystic Falls that her death would be considered an assassination, right? She liked to think so.
She could play it off. Pretend she had no idea. Pretend just thought Rebekah had mellowed out too much for cheerleader-on-cheerleader violence or that she would've sworn Rebekah at least had enough respect for their chances at nationals to not eat teammates.
Or Caroline could rely on her friends. Let them do for her what she would always do for them.
“I- we can't do this right now. My mom's doing the late shift again, so let's meet at my place after class. I'll let Bonnie know in Physics, okay?”
“If you're sure...?” Elena looked confused. And more importantly, worried. And, fair, but she really didn't want any Salvatores in this business, so she tried to ease Elena's worries. At least enough that Stefan wouldn't pick up on it in their joint English class.
“I'm sure. Everything's fine, I promise.” Caroline attempted to make her smile reassuring. She didn't think she succeeded.

The Hunter's Council Chapter 23: The Lies You Built Your House Upon
Hello, my lovely readers. Welcome back. There have a lot of things that prevented me from continuing my fics, but I'm trying to get back into the writing thing. On with the show...
12 Hours Earlier:
It started with ten drinks. Or maybe it was twenty-five. At some point, Klaus Mikaelson lost count. He felt more relaxed than he had in some time. Caroline had passed her test. His family were reunited, except for Kol, but after he was done with his tantrum of the century, he, too, would return. Even Hayley Marshall slid down Klaus' list of threats, for the time being. Poor girl was nursing a broken heart, and was as clueless to Caroline's secret, as far as Klaus knew. However, he could be patient and would find out what his wife kept from him, in time.
Swirling the empty shot glass in his hand, Klaus admired the prism of colors that no human eye could detect. Then his gaze slid to his drinking partner, Kai Parker, who turned out to be more interesting than Klaus first suspected. "You said you're a demonology expert?"
With a smirk, Klaus swiveled on his stool in the Mystic Falls Grill. His partner-in-drinking-the-bar, for the night, gazed back at him with a wide grin. "Yes!" Kai clapped Klaus on the shoulder. "You would not believe how many vampires think I'm kidding about that. Of course, you're no ordinary vampire. The one! The only! Klaus Mikaelson!" Holding up his hands, Kai seemed to be highlighting Klaus' name. Or maybe he wanted to fall off the barstool. Either seemed possible.
Hand shooting outward, Klaus steadied Kai before the witch could tumble off the stool and onto the bar floor. Falling against the side of the bar top; Kai waved to the bartender. "One more round for me and my new bestie!"
The bartender shook his head. "You're cut off, man."
Kai leaned over the bar. His index finger pointed at the bartender. The witch looked quite serious, now. Feeling a mild sense of foreboding, Klaus reached in his pants pocket and pulled out his wallet. "Will this do?" He held up a hundred dollar bill between two fingers.
For a moment, the bartender seemed to mulling it over. Then he pushed off with one foot, coming to collect the bribe. "Cause you're a regular. Here." He pulled out a bottle of bourbon. "Get him," he nodded at Kai, "out of here."
Klaus smiled, slapping the money on the bar top and took the bottle. "Come, my friend, we shall take our celebration elsewhere." He grabbed Kai by the collar of his jacket and spun the younger man towards the door. He'd intended on getting Kai alone anyway. This made it easier.
As they walked through town, to the casual observer, two drunken men out for a stroll, Klaus propelled them towards a specific spot: An alley where he dumped a victim, or two, along the way. Although Klaus also favored it for a place to have a private conversation with an informant, which Kai might be.
With a sigh, Kai fell against the wall. "Caroline's great. Isn't she?"
Feeling a bit confused, and a tad bit possessive; Klaus forced himself to keep smiling. "Yes. She is." In spite of his intentions, an edge entered his voice.
Kai, apparently, was not as drunk as Klaus had first thought. He straightened up. Smoothing his collar. "I don't mean it like that. I mean she's incredible. An incredible find. An intellectual discovery. Of sorts." His blue eyes searched the stars above. "I never thought I'd meet someone like her. In regard to her existence, within our species."
Now, Klaus wondered if he had drunk too much. Somehow, he'd lost the thread. "Species?"
Kai's eyes moved to Klaus. They held a spark. Knowing that spark all too well, Klaus leaned closer. He offered Kai an open smile of his own, "What species are we speaking of, pray tell?"
Unable to contain himself, Kai blurted, "Caroline's created a whole new chapter in my studies of demonology. Imagine, the first Demon Slayer?" He let out a quiet laugh. "No one would believe me if I told them. Well, except for Freya, and Hayley. But Freya is one of the only beings who understands any of it. And Hayley, I was pleased with her interest. I never get to talk about this with anyone outside my field." He paused and then shrugged. "Just kind of shocked Caroline told Hayley. Thought Caroline wanted to keep it a secret." He shook his head. "Guess not..."
Klaus had been silent the entire time. "Who else knows?"
Lips pursing, Kai tapped his fingers against the brick wall. "Eh. Well, me. Freya. I think. Hayley. And you." Freezing, Kai said, "You don't think Hayley will tell The Council?" His entire body straightened. "I need to go home and move the books... My on-going research. If The Council got ahold of it--"
Slapping a hand on Kai's shoulder, Klaus nodded. "Yes. Do. Go home. And see to it that you do not speak of Caroline's...ancestry, to anyone else. Will you?"
"No problem. My lips are sealed." Pressing his finger tips together, Kai made a show of zipping his lips and tossing away the key. Then he took off.
Eyes boring into Kai's back, Klaus held back his seething rage. Ordinarily, he would have killed Kai were he stood, but the fact was that he was the only expert that they knew. Caroline might need him, one day. And his stupidity would have to overlooked, this time.
With a growl, Klaus took a long gulp from the bottle of bourbon. Freya, Klaus knew he could trust with Caroline's secret. Hayley. Never. Now, he had a slayer to kill. But he had to form a plan in order to achieve his goal, while the others were occupied. Which meant there would need to be a distraction and nothing said distraction like a little drama.
With a humorless smile, Klaus tossed the bottle into the street. The spray of glass shards gave him some satisfaction. However, feeling Hayley's bones crunch under his own hands would provide even more. Tomorrow. Tomorrow, she would pay for her curiosity.

many thoughts on joe keery playing melchior gabor in college and his career now
joe keery in college performing lyrics like “there’s nowhere to hide from the ghosts in my mind, it’s cold in these bones of a man and a child… there’s no one to see who can see to my soul”
joe keery singing “I’m calling to know the world’s true yearning, the hunger that a child feels for everything they’re shown”
…..and then joe keery in 2022 as a 30 year old in a band writing and singing “the song has started now, and you’re just finding out. now isn’t that a laugh? a major sacrifice, but clueless at the time. enter, Caroline: Just trust me, you’ll be fine….”
and djo singing “I’m beginning to understand: there’s no mystery to this man”
and “when I’m back in chicago, I feel it; another version of me, I was in it. I wave goodbye to the end of beginning”
and “Something is about to break; the fault-line has been fractured / Maybe it’s not too late to learn how to love each other / what’s it gonna take to change it? / don’t you wanna save this planet? / blame it on manipulation, we’re human after all!”

Worth the Candle - Update
Dear Caroline:
I've finished book VIII, which means I'm in the home stretch now. I am counting of getting to the end in December, which will aptly make WtC the last month of the year's Carolingian book.
As to my predictions, it was pretty obvious that the Onion was going to get chopped, and I also got the Cannibal partly right - I had almost forgotten the dragon, but then I was seeing it as more of a background threat than as something to be instantiated. The conclusion of book VIII was a mouthful!
Things going through my head:
-Yes, some threads have been tied (?, one can never be completely sure): Anglecynn and dragons; I still feel there's too much on our plate for a satisfactory ending of each of the mayor open ones. We shall see.
-Amaryllis has suffered some grievous physical damage (fixable? how?). Juniper too. I get that Soul Magic allows repair, but when legs and arms are missing, I am not sure what you can actually do, besides some Druidic bs. Juniper still has his level ups, but they don't extend to companuons.
-I'm glad Lisi survived the skyfall and carnage. Yay!!
-The overwhelming moral reflections inevitably got me thinking. Unlike you, I can empathize very easily with the main protagonist: I was a young, angsty, socially clueless teenager once, and a DM for my very small RPG community (perhaps more bookish and academically oriented than you, and even worse with girls), and within the narration, I can easily be led away by desires for revenge and painful retribution (like literally enjoying the perspective of Juniper dealing grievous bodily harm and mockery to Onion and most of the Penndraig princes and princesses). I took very seriously Raven's reflections, and I'd say there are two things at play here: vicarious pleasure and ultimate unreality.
Literary critics, in their efforts to justify the works of writers to men, usually make the case that 'art' as opposed to 'entertainment' has a some sort of value -aesthetic, pedagogic, mimetic, creative of whatever they can cook. Ultimately though, there is a way in which fiction panders to our tastes, allowing us to explore multiverse scenarios that are close enough to our own to be meaningful (and generate emotional investment) but also far enough that we don't have to actually reflect on consequences. One common argument in favor of literature is it develops our empathy by putting us in the shoes of completely different peoples, characters and societies, and making us more tolerant and understanding. Perhaps for some books, but we still tend to focalize on the protagonist(s).
Another argument, for meta and deconstructive texts, would teach that about the dangerous effects of narrative and one-sidedness, and this gets much attention in the late chapters of book VIII, in a very complex rephrasing of 'one man's hero is another man's villain'. And it gets translated to this world - even when we're out of fiction, the framing narratives we get told about people and events obfuscate us and reduce complexity to simple black and white stories that flatter our tribal instincts and identifications, our desire to see our adversaries crushed along with the moral justification to let ourselves loose and enjoy their pain and suffering, in a way which is dehumanizing.
I don't think this makes us psychopaths, though. Ultimately, 'it is a narrative video game', and we know that if we were playing with real stakes, life's complexities and empathies would kick in. Even in fiction, a change in focus -seeing an evil character suffering, crying, suddenly being humanized by friends, family and some good intentions- immediately impacts you. And I can think of at least one recent case when I actually felt sorry for a convicted criminal when just thinking about his gloomy future, the waste of potential good agency, and his relative's obvious grief. So there's a clear lesson spelled out here, even if most critics would consider WtC as something beneath them and the texts they classify as 'literature'.
Quote:
An EAG play in three acts: Act 1: Is that worldoptimization!? Act 2: She mentioned Worth the Candle, it is! Act 3: Oh no, she left early. Well, at least I got another reminder to read that fic.

I'll Try *Part 2*
Damon Salvatore X Son!Reader Klaus Mikaelson X Reader!Platonic
Word Count: 1185
Requested: @emaz-0225
Request: Can you please do a part 2 of I'll Try where Elena and Caroline yell at Damon for not telling them about his son and Damon tells them the story of how his son came to be how his father wouldn't let him marry the boys mom. Klaus comes to town after the boy gets attacked from Tyler who was protecting Elena and Klaus heals the boy and promises to protect him always and forever Klaus looks at Stefan and Damon and says " You lost out on a man that is loyal sure he likes to make messes but if you love and care for him he will do anything for you."
*Part 1*
Tumblr media
"You never told us that you had a son," Caroline complained as she carried Bonnie who was still passed out into the house laying her on the sofa.
"I wasn't aware that was any of your business," Damon said as he closed the door after Elena walked in. "Well it is now, why the hell is he so angry, he could have killed Bonnie," Caroline complained as Elena walked over and crouched next to her friend. "What are they talking about?" Stefan asked as he walked down the stairs, his eyes falling on Bonnie for a second before he looked back at Damon. "(Y/N) was here." He answered. "What why?" Stefan asked. "So you knew about him too?" Elena asked. "Neither of you went to go and look for him or his mother?" "It wasn't that simple" Damon answered and she raised an eyebrow waiting for him to continue "I love his mother, when I met her back then you would never see us apart, it was fine until she fell pregnant, my father did not want me to marry her, so he told me that I wasn't allowed to see her anymore." "When have you listened to anyone?" Caroline asked as she sat down in a chair to listen to the rest of the story. "I knew that if I didn't listen to him that he'd just end up hurting her, he had no problem doing it to his own family." Damon answered bitterly "I thought she would be safer without me, as it turned out her family didn't want her ruining their name with the birth of a child to an unmarried woman, before I knew it she was gone and I had no idea how to find her. Then everything happened with Katherine and when I could finally go back to see them Katherine told me that she was dead, she said that (Y/N) was alive but that he wasn't there she wouldn't tell me where was." "You didn't look very hard though, did you?" Stefan asked. "I know that I could have done better but that's not the point, the point is that he is now friends with Klaus and he's going to try and take Elena!" Damon argued. "Well he's a lot like you, so what would you do?" Caroline asked. "He's worse than I am." Damon corrected her as he looked over at her "I mean he's still got his humanity on."
You let them have a couple of weeks before you went out to cause more trouble, you knew that Klaus was almost there so you decided that you were going to put them on edge you don't actually know what they were doing but they were out in the middle of nowhere doing something that you really didn't care about, there was a campfire and they were all laughing and honestly it was making you sick "Alright what the hell are a bunch of clueless teens doing in the middle of the forest?" You asked as you leaned against the tree, catching the arrow that was aimed at your chest. "That would have killed me." "That was the point." Your eyes moved to the boy that had shot the arrow at me. "You are?" You asked. "My name's Jeremy." He answered. "Well, Jeremy..." You appeared in front of him and lifted him by the throat "it's only right that I return the favour for you." "(Y/N) stop!" "You don't get to be my Dad when it suits you." You said to him as you tightened your hand around his throat, you realized that everyone was gone. "This needs to stop, you're angry at me, so hurt me." He ordered and you shook your head and smiled, you took the arrow from Jeremy's crossbow and moved quickly stabbing the arrow straight through Damon's chest. "I have plans for you but none of them involve killing you, at least not yet." You informed him "now where did the doppelganger get off to?" Damon reached out and grabbed your ankle so you grabbed the lowest hanging branch and pulled it down, you snapped it in half  and stabbed him through the stomach "goodbye." You tracked her scent through the forest and it wasn't long before you found them hidden in some crypt. "Anyone want to make this a little easier?" You asked. "You know Klaus doesn't care about you," Tyler muttered and you looked at him. "No Klaus doesn't care about you, you Hybrid failure." You smirked as he growled, your cockiness got the best of you as he slammed into you winding you slightly before his teeth broke your skin, you groaned as the pain blossomed through your shoulder and neck "That hurts like a bitch." You pushed yourself up off the floor and stumbled in the direction that they had all runoff in, you could hear them arguing about him biting you before meeting up with Damon again. "Where is he?" Damon asked. "Right here." You answered, he looked over to see that you were covered in blood but then again so was he. "What happened?" He asked. "Your feral dog bit me." You answered your hand slipping from the trunk of the tree before you caught yourself balance again, you heard Tyler growl again and glared.  "I'm dying, what more do you want to do to me?" "(Y/N)-" Damon stepped forward, you kicked up a fallen branch catching it when it was waist height before throwing it at Damon. "I may be dying but that doesn't make me stupid, I would rather die alone, than with you." You ground out through gritted teeth as the pain in your neck worsened "I don't need your help." "When I asked one of my hybrids to keep an eye on you I thought that meant cleaning up after you not saving your life." Everyone watched as the tension left your body in a second and you smiled. "I mean if you didn't give all your pups rabies when you turned them I'd be fine." You argued as you turned to Klaus who smirked before walking over to you and holding his wrist out to you "wait you have a watchdog on me?" "I promised to keep you safe forever and always and that is one of the ways that I do that, here little fighter drink." He offered "it'll heal the bite." his eyes moved to Damon as he smirked, "you know your son is the most loyal sure he likes to make a mess but I have yet to meet a vampire that doesn't if you care for him and give him what he deserves then he will offer you the same." "Klaus!" Damon warned. "Time to get going little fighter." He turned away from them, gesturing for you to follow. "(Y/N)!" Damon called and you turned back to them for a second and smirked. "Watch yourself Tyler I intend to take your teeth straight out of your head for what you did to me." You warned him before you turned following after Klaus.

Ok, so I’ve always noticed some of the racism on TVD , most notably the treatment of Marcel and Emily, and the founders day parade episode (which, as a Virginian I have to say that the episode made me low-key ashamed when I re-watched it years later). But it took me a while to catch onto the racism on Bonnie‘s character. I was wondering if you have done a meta about it and could link me to it, or if you could do one?
Well it only took me like a year but here ya go!
youtube
Despite the fact that The Vampire Diaries is a show that was ostensibly created for girls and young women, the show undeniably seems to lack a certain level of respect or basic interest in its female characters. And while every single significant female character demonstrates that misogynistic point of view in one way or another, one of the most unique, distinct, and apparent instances of The Vampire Diaries' sexism is on peak display with one of it's leading female characters, Bonnie Bennett.
Bonnie obviously occupies a particularly interesting role in the series because she's the only black leading character, and it's also hard to miss that The Vampire Diaries universe has a pretty apparent issue with it's non-white characters as well.
The race problem on TVD expresses itself in a few different, extremely blatant ways. The most obvious issue with people of color on The Vampire Diaries is that those who are actually PoC within the narrative itself are typically pushed to the sidelines and relegated to supporting players at best, but there is also an issue with presenting PoC performers who are white-passing as white characters.
None of the PoC characters in The Vampire Diaries get very good treatment, but the series seems to be exceptionally problematic when it comes to its presentation of black characters. While black people arguably get more representation than any other non-white characters in this fictional world, they are almost all outrageously attractive, extremely light-skinned, and conveniently lacking in any emotional needs or inner life that needs to be addressed within the narrative, seemingly designed to show up, perform whatever service is necessary, and once again fade into the background if not just be killed off entirely.
This is an issue with every black character in the series, but given that Bonnie is the most significant and prominent in the series, it comes as no surprise that she was affected the most intensely by these biases. It's one thing to be a black character, it's one thing to be a female character, but being a black female character in the TVD universe is exceptionally crippling. But how exactly did the misogynoir of The Vampire Diaries completely neutralize Bonnie Bennett as a character?
Bonnie was mistreated, dismissed, and outright ignored in many big and small ways throughout the course of the show. But, a lot of that treatment can be pretty easily sorted into a few categorizations. The Vampire Diaries went through a pretty seismic shift from the start of the show to the end, but it has always been a series that falls primarily into two genres, the supernatural thriller genre and the romance genre.
The show pretty clearly transformed from a show that was firstly a supernatural story with a romantic subgenre into an almost entirely romantic story with a supernatural backdrop, but it's safe to say that the vast majority of the plotlines were either focused on magic or love. And, it's not particularly difficult to see how Bonnie was forcibly excluded from a predominant storyline in each genre, even when it made absolutely no sense.
Bonnie was a completely inexperienced witch at the start of TVD, so her cluelessness and powerlessness made a certain amount of sense at that point. But by the end of season 2 at the very latest, it seems fully established that she is one of the most powerful living witches in the world, and for the bulk of the series it is plainly acknowledged that she is one of the most powerful witches who ever lived. Which is exactly why Bonnie's position in the narrative is baffling.
In quite a few instances, Bonnie's magical abilities seem to be somewhat inconsistent, at least in the sense that, if she can solve some of the biggest problems that the Mystic Falls gang is confronted with, then it's very odd that she can't solve the others. And while plenty of characters in TVD are occasionally used as plot devices rather than characters, Bonnie seems to be the one who is specifically designed to show up, fix what needs fixing, and then become set dressing once she's no longer necessary as the mystical solution to every unsolvable issue.
And this is actually a significant problem with the witches at large, but of course is most recognizable with Bonnie because she is the most prominent witch. While not all witches are women of color, it seems like they are far more represented in that faction of the magical world than in any other. So then, it's interesting that the witches are presented as servants of nature who are meant to selflessly restore order to the world without actually using their abilities for their own personal gain.
Of course there are plenty of witches who appear to use their powers for themselves, but still, it's incredibly meaningful that the lone black main character in the series is constantly sacrificing herself for the sake of the otherwise entirely white cast of characters. It's even more meaningful that she seems to willingly put herself in the line of fire every time, and it's also extremely telling that she suffers and even dies without complaint for the sake of other people.
And while TVD has never been the kind of show to linger on emotional moments for too long, Bonnie seems to stick out like a sore thumb in this circumstance as well. Most of the main and even supporting characters have moments where their pain is acknowledged and at least has a second to breathe, but there are quite a few situations where Bonnie should be upset but isn't, or where her emotional journey as a character literally takes place off screen.
This lack of acknowledgment and nearly complete omission of an internal emotional life that doesn't involve sacrificing herself for her friends only further makes Bonnie feel like a plot device instead of a character. And, while no character needs a romantic relationship to make their character complete, it is incredibly relevant that, on a series that was built largely on a foundation of romance and arguably became a completely romantically driven show by its end, only one of the female leads was pretty much never presented as a viable love interest.
Nearly every character is either threatened or charmed into doing what someone else wants them to at some point during The Vampire Diaries, however, Bonnie's charm-to-threaten ratio seems to lean very heavily in favor of threatening. That in itself wouldn't necessarily be a huge issue, but it seems to punish Bonnie in a way that is so severe that it's completely illogical.
Trying to intimidate Elena or Caroline, people who at best have the strength of a baby vampire and at worst are as powerful as a normal human, makes sense. But trying to strongarm the most powerful witch in the world instead of just convincing her to do what you ask seems like an incredibly dangerous and completely baffling decision.
And yet, that is how Bonnie is forced to do nearly everything that she doesn't want to do in eight seasons of the series. By the end of season 2, TVD has canonically confirmed that Bonnie is powerful enough to destroy Klaus Mikaelson, and yet people like Klaus, Katherine, and even vampires as young as Damon get Bonnie to do things by simply bullying or even assaulting her into doing it. And what does Bonnie typically do in response? Absolutely nothing.
At a certain point, the consistent contrast between Bonnie's mystical strength and the way that people treat her in order to use that strength becomes a pretty gaping plot hole. And while it's not unheard of for someone to try to sweet talk Bonnie into joining their team, it is almost always done by a character who is far less powerful than she is and who is completely irrelevant to the narrative at large.
In contrast to characters like Elena and Caroline, the distinction between them becomes even more obvious. Perhaps a thin argument could be made that because Elena is a doppelganger that makes her a tad more unique, but when one of the most powerful creatures on the planet was wrapped around Caroline's finger, it really begs the question, why wasn't anyone ever as invested or even obsessed with Bonnie as they were with the other two female leads on the series?
After all, Elena's love was consistently treated as if it was the greatest prize that anyone could possibly win, and the two male leads were completely obsessed with her and willing to do anything they could to try to win her over. And despite the fact that Elena was at the center of the love triangle that was a significant driving force behind the story for the entire series, she still managed to score a few love interests that weren't Salvatores throughout the show's eight seasons as well.
And, while Caroline was actually treated as more of the reject love interest in comparison to the unattainable Elena, her record with romance is also incredibly varied. Even though she was portrayed at best as the consolation prize and at worst the abuse victim, she did have some sort of romantic relationship with the two male leads in the show. Or at least, that is how The Vampire Diaries chose to portray it.
In addition to her horrorshow with Damon and her incredibly brief marriage with Stefan, Caroline is also a love interest for Klaus, Matt, Tyler, and disgustingly, Alaric. Arguably the only main male character who doesn't serve as Caroline's love interest or potential love interest at any point is Jeremy.
Although this laundry list of love interests can be partially excused by the fact that Caroline is characterized as someone who wants to date a lot, the contrast bet0ween characters like Caroline and Elena and characters like Bonnie is astonishing.
Over a nearly decade-long run, Bonnie's only legitimate leading men are Jeremy, Elena's kid brother who Bonnie will willingly die for but who also prefers a literal dead person over her at one point, and Enzo, her epic love romance that comes about at the very end of the series in a relationship that almost entirely develops off-screen.
Of course, female characters do not need love interests to validate their characterization or very existence, however in an environment where every single barely significant supporting character seems to get at least two love interests, it's incredibly telling that Bonnie Bennett gets two important love stories in eight seasons of storytelling.
It seems even more relevant that the show seemingly went out of its way to sidestep almost any and all opportunities for romance in Bonnie's character arc. Whether it was Kol, Kai, or Damon Salvatore, there were quite a few instances where there was a clear and easy route to develop a love interest for Bonnie in a way that made sense and had a pretty solid amount of audience support, and yet the series always went out of its way to avoid it.
In stark contrast, Caroline is still seen as a viable option for a burgeoning love story when she's pregnant, and Elena is an acceptable love interest when she's literally unconscious. And yet, in a series that began with romance as its secondary genre and that evolved into a romance series with a supernatural backdrop, Bonnie is supposedly not as appealing of a love interest as Elena and Caroline regardless of any circumstances, no matter how insane.
If these issues existed in a vacuum then they might be excusable, but considering how poorly The Vampire Diaries treated its female characters and black characters, it's pretty much impossible to avoid the reality that Bonnie Bennett's entire character arc was likely hamstrung by the fact that she was a black girl.
In any reasonable circumstances, Bonnie would have arguably been at the center of every single supernatural storyline, and she logically would have been a far more appealing love interest to any powerful characters in the series. But instead she spent the vast majority of her screentime with her inner characterization ignored, her personal development unexplored, and serving as little more than a glorified deus ex machina who didn't even want her friends to bother mourning her when she literally sacrificed her life for them.
Representation was always an issue in The Vampire Diaries universe, and unfortunately it seems like Bonnie was the definition of their token black character. Although the series had eight entire years to course correct and had many seasons where they were desperate for new ideas and decent character development, the racism and misogyny of the series seemingly prevented them from ever tapping into the enormous untapped potential of someone who should have been one of their flagship lead characters.

DIRECTORS CUT WAHNOLA
It was such a long time ago I don't know what to say. 🥲🥲
It was my first Klaroline fic, and first fic in general in many years, and reading bits and pieces of it recently I was cringing a bit ashdgasjhas at some of the writing there. 🥲 But that's normal, I guess.
I wrote that before I had even watched TVD and TO from start to finish (to this day I haven't watched all of TVD lol but back then I hadn't even watched S1, and had abandoned TO in S3 and only watched Candice's episodes in S5 🤣), and so I think my understanding of the characters was a little different than what it is today. The reason why it was entirely written through Caroline's POV is because I just found Klaus IMPOSSIBLE to write. I just couldn't connect with him, couldn't find his voice, had no idea how to make him IC (it wasn't until months later and reading @definedareasofuncertainty's fics that I finally started to feel like I was figuring out how to capture Klaus). But what motivated me above everything else was my desire to just find some in-canon satisfaction after being extremely unhappy with the way TO ended. It was basically my Karen letter to the manager. 🤣 I wanted them to get together, so I thought of a moment before TO when I could make it happen and went for it. And even with all the things I think I would've changed about it nowadays, I think the whole Silas thing that gets them in a world where they're human was kinda fun tbh.
I also remember I very much wanted to put Caroline in a position where she'd have to make a choice for Klaus. Most fics I'd written up to that point had Caroline being rescued, or helped, or something like that, by Klaus, which then made her realize and accept her feelings for him. I know now there are many fics that aren't like that, but I had literally JUST joined fandom then, so. And I wanted something different. I wanted Klaus, all mighty and proud and completely clueless when it came to asking for help or even showing an inkling of vulnerability, being useless, and Caroline being the one who could do something for him. Obviously, they connect and many things happen between them during that ~~journey, but then Caroline has to decide to help Klaus, even going against her friends, and eventually she is the one who is pushed out of her comfort zone and has to face her feelings for him.
Anyway. 🤣 I really liked their goodbye scene in that story! When Klaus shows up at the Lockwood manor after Tyler leaves and tells her he's leaving. Also the scene where she's trying on the dress and they have a ~~moment. Those were my favorite scenes.
Thank you for your ask, patootie!! ✨

Klaroline fanfic update: Found
Tumblr media
Working on the next chapter of my Klaroline fic, Found. Here's a quick peek:
Chapter 5:
And that was the problem — Klaus wasn’t Klaus right now and she couldn’t in good conscience...what she was thinking was all kinds of wrong. “Um,” Caroline began, breathless and awkward and completely clueless about what she should say. “It wouldn’t be right, okay? Because there’s all these issues of consent and can an amnesiac really give consent when they don’t know who they are or who you are,” she rambled, clumsily backing into the lower cabinets in the narrow kitchen. With a pained gasp as her ankle collided with the rough edge of splintered trim, she blurted out, “Besides, this has disaster written all over it — someone could get hurt.” Probably me. Definitely me.
It was unnerving how Klaus had observed Caroline silently throughout her rant. She was being hunted. And her monster liked it. Despite his dominance in this moment, he’d stepped back respectfully, and the piece of her humanity she vowed to keep appreciated the gesture. It was nice (and rare in her limited experience) that a man understood when to give you space. And she’d always felt safe with Klaus.
“I would willingly have passionate sex with you.”
She snorted despite the gravity of the situation. “How charitable of you.”

The Exclusivity Clause part 3 PREVIEW
Hi! Sorry for the unexpected hiatus, I promise I’m not dead. Things have been really chaotic, and it’s finally starting to die down. I am still working on the last chapter of The Exclusivity Clause (Links: AO3 | FFN), but here’s a preview of the opening scene!
Caroline woke up disoriented. She couldn’t help the whimper of pain that escaped as she realized how sore she was.
“You’re awake,” Liz’s voice hovered at the edges of her vision, and her mother’s face swam into focus as she struggled to collect herself.
“I don’t understand what’s going on,” Caroline rasped, reaching up to press her hands to her head in an attempt to alleviate the headache.
“Honestly, I don’t either.” Liz admitted. “I don’t remember… from before.”
Caroline frowned at her mother’s words. “What… what do you mean? You were dead. I watched you die.”
“I know, sweetheart,” Liz said softly. “And I remembering dying. But I’m here now, and I’m not sure what happened.”
Caroline wasn’t sure what was worse at this moment, the throbbing headache or the racing of her heart pressing against her ribcage.
But before she could begin to examine the occurrences of the past… hours? …day?, the sound of approaching footsteps put a stop to her and Liz’s conversation.
“Did my useless son tell you nothing?” A male voice chuckled, and two figures stepped into view.
“About… what?” Caroline whispered, pressing her back into the wall.
“About our world, child,” the woman responded calmly from beside him, a cold smile on her face as she revealed, “the one where monsters are real and they feast on clueless humans such as yourself.” At the skeptical look on Caroline’s face, the woman gave her a look of mock sympathy as she said, “Oh you poor thing. You had no idea, didn’t you? That man you’ve been living with… he’s the worst of them all.”
I really hope to have this chapter finished and posted by the end of this month, preferably sooner! Fingers crossed.

"The Good and the Bad: How Social Media affected me as a Gen Z Individual."
The use of social media has pros and cons to me as a gen z individual. We are in an era where information is very significant and is widely demanded. On the other hand, fake news is spread twice as legitimate sources do. Social media offers both so it is up to us how we handle all the information around us Many identify social media as a time-waster. But as a Gen Z individual, I can say that I would be very clueless and unaware of the happenings in the world if I don't have social media. Because for me social media is a double-edged sword that requires wisdom and moderation. You have to learn how to strike a balance between the positive and negative impacts of it. Social media can create peer motivation to gen z, inspiring young people like me, develop healthy habits, try something new, follow their dreams, and speak up about things that matter to them. Teens can also find positive role models online. In addition, a wide variety of apps offer instruction and support for developing a more positive outlook and building healthy habits, such as meditation and exercise, and also to Communicate and stay up to date with family and friends around the world in the midst of this pandemic. Find new friends and communities, network with other people who share similar interests or ambitions. Join or promote worthwhile causes, raise awareness on important issues.
Too much use of Social Media can have adverse effects on students' minds and they may also be exposed to bad posture, eye strain, physical and mental stress. Discrimination through media causes teenagers to isolate themselves from the world, as well as implement online socialization and not have the capacity to communicate with another human being in person. Furthermore, this is the effect of abuse of media. Extreme online socialization will lead to the inability of contacting people or whenever one is out in public, social interactions will remain brief. Online socialization in a developing child and exposure to media will directly influence and affect a child’s attitudes. Social Media has changed our lives. Social media has definitely made us closer to other parts of the world. We are able to contact each other all around the world with one click of a button. Nowadays teenagers are known to be one of the heaviest users of social media nowadays. Social Media may have its positive aspects, but can also affect teenagers negatively. Being able to contact someone around the world who you may not know could be unbelievably dangerous. You can’t trust everyone on social media. However, teenagers love using social media, because they are able to stay connected to their friends and make new friends. Nonetheless, if it is putting teens and kids in danger, it must be monitored. Even though social media is a way to keep in touch with our world, it is affecting teenagers negatively in the form of their health, cyberbullying, and personality online and as such should be reconsidered immediately. Through these interactions, young people can share ideas, acquire information, and also be exposed to many negative opportunities out there. Secondly, social media give them the avenue and opportunity to make new friends and also allows them to maintain their old friends.

Stressed Out
Fandom: The Vampire Diaries Pairing: Elijah Mikaelson & Son!Reader Summary: The world is a hectic place, sometimes you just want it to slow down. Word Count: 1,077 Request: @will-grammer  “Can I ask for Elijah Mikaelson and son male reader? Maybe his son is very stressed and tired and comes to him for comfort, asking if it would be okay if he stayed with him for a bit? Elijah put aside whatever else he was occupied with and holds him, talking to him, telling him about his day to keep his mind off whatever's eating at him or kissing the top of his head, telling him he can rest. Maybe reader falls asleep in his arms? Would this be alright? I missed your writings of him.”
Tumblr media
You don’t deal with stress very well.
It’s common knowledge within the family, try not to overwhelm you with too many tasks on top of your studying at university and your part-time job. Sure, you don’t need a part-time job, Elijah has told you several times that you live with a rich family who can provide whatever you needed, but you like the sense of normality - it takes you away from vampires, werewolves and hybrids, given that you were half-witch and half-vampire.
Recently, you’ve been falling behind on your assignments with college. You quit your part-time job to try and sort your life out with homework, but it never seems to stop.
You had a project, then three 2000 words essays, including a quick multiple-choice exam to fulfil at a certain time with time limits so you had to revise for that. You had to write up a practical report for your lab work from last week, including extra reading and the reading ahead for your course. Of course, your dad had sent you messages to accompany your family in their endeavours. Uncle Klaus likes to hang around you as you and he go out scouting around the nearby woods. You have to help Hope with her homework and tutor her on subjects she lacks the confidence in, also assisting her in her magic when aunt Freya wasn’t around. Hayley and Rebekah drag you around, go knows what you do half the time.
You’ve got responsibilities as well around the compound, sometimes, despite being one of the youngest in the family at the ripe ages of the early twenties. You often make dinner for your family, especially for Hope, Freya and Davina. If you’re not cooking, you’re cleaning up whatever messes your family does, luckily sometimes your dad waves you away so he does it or someone else in the family does it before you find the mess.
By the end of two weeks, of you somehow disappearing at the compound, going in and out around the place. you showed your face to your dad.
Who was clueless to your stressed-out life, he had no clue that you were done with your job, how you just completed what seemed like fifty things for college and your chores around the house. You were burnt out, so burn out that you’ve started to crave blood to get your energy back up and that your witchy magic was too weak to even to work and if it did work, most often not - going spectacularly wrong.
“Dad,” You croaked out, rubbing your eyes as Elijah looked up from his work, “Can I hang out with for a bit?”
“By all means,” Elijah motioned to the nearby sofa in the office as you sighed thankfully, flopping down into comfort.
Your hand is over your face as you try not to think about the few last assignments you have due in the next couple of days. You needed a break, but in the distance, you can hear Freya asking for you so you can help her with some witch reading. Elijah looks up from his notes and sees you, placing his pen down carefully and zooming next to you. Bending down and placing a gentle hand on your knee.
“(Y/n)?” He softly grabs your attention, you move your hand, “What’s the matter? Are you okay?”
Everyone hates that phrase, are you okay? It’s like a trigger as you burst into tears.
“Oh dear,” Elijah murmurs as he pulls you into a hug, you gripped hard.
But, Elijah knew the difference between the grip of a human and a grip of a half-vampire. Elijah holds you close to him, stroking your hair and noticing how some stands of your hair has slowly turned grey from stress. He sighs, witches have a tendency to do that to their hair, overwork to the point their magic tells feelings.
“Your aunt Rebekah is coming back home today, how about I ask her if she can run you a relaxing bath and ask her to use one of her assortment of bath bombs?” Elijah asked as you chuckled at the way your dad says bath bombs.
“Your idiotic uncles have got themselves in trouble again, of course, your uncle Niklaus have tried to swoon young Caroline Forbes and your uncle Kol has tried to wing-man him.”
“Let me guess?” You asked, wiping your tears, “They failed miserably?”
“Is it a surprise at this point?” Elijah asked with a soft smile upon his face as you laugh, shaking your head, “Will you let me on the sofa?”
You adjusted yourself so Elijah was on the seating, holding you close to him as you comfortably felt safe in his arms. Your dad’s hand rubs you comfortingly as you sighed. For once, time seemed the slowdown, you feel like nothing could harm you nor get to you.
“You need to drink some blood, son,” Elijah murmurs, he could feel you tense, “I’m not a mind reader but I know you’re stressed. Your hair is turning grey and that shows there’s too much going on - you’ve worn yourself out.”
“Mhm,” You answered, “Maybe later, I just like being here as of now.”
You promised, Elijah could tell by the tone of your voice. He doesn’t argue with you at all as he feels you relax as Elijah nods.
“You can rest now, child,” Elijah soothes you, you had to bite back a laugh as you were twenty-something and your dad still calls you a child - he really does smoother you with parenting, “Everything will come to you in good health.”
As any good father would do, comfort their child. So, Elijah talks and he doesn’t stop. He talks about all the events that you have missed out due to your work, all the stupid things Klaus and Kol got into.
All the things your cousin got away with, what Davina and Freya have been doing. He rambles about how your uncles are really testing his nerves, he feels you chuckle under him. He doesn’t stop stroking your arm lovingly, but he hears your heartbeat steady, he hears your breathing evening out.
You’ve fallen asleep.
Elijah softly smiles to himself before kissing your forehead, moving you gently to lie on the sofa. He sits back at his desk to work, but occasionally looking up to check up on you.
You really are his son, sometimes it terrifies him - in a good way.
