I wonder how Gaon and Yohan are going to explain the change in their interactions to Elijah, since it's going to be obvious to her that something has happened between them. Since Elijah knows that there's nothing between Gaon and Soo hyun, I wonder if she will play a role in clearing Yohan's misconception? Thanks for the update! That definitely depends on who's doing the explaining xD Yo Han would just brush it off and pretend that nothing is happening — which would just piss her off — while Ga On would make a stilted effort to explain without making it too obvious what it's actually about. Which would also annoy her.

That poor girl, seriously. She doesn't deserve to get caught between these two idiots.

I'm not sure I agree that Elijah "knows" that there was nothing between Ga On and Soo Hyun, though. I think she very much thinks there was something between them. I mean, sure, they denied it when she asked if they were dating, but THE WAY they did so was pretty telling (especially in Soo Hyun's case). Even more so since Elijah is a bit... well, innocent? I think most of her experience with love comes from media, books etc. and how Ga On and Soo Hyun behaved is, well, straight from a drama xD

And Elijah also had that talk with Soo Hyun when they were eating ice cream on Ga On's terrace, where it became pretty obvious that Soo Hyun is in love with Ga On and has already confessed to him several times.

So I think Elijah very much believes they were in love. Which means she won't really play a role in convincing Yo Han otherwise — if asked, she'd probably only make it worse, even. Because her understanding of love is a bit superficial and probably pretty geared towards straightness. That's not to say that she's not aware of gay people (I think she might actually know more about that than Ga On does xD) but from the evidence she's seen both Ga On and Yo Han seem straight to her (because I can't imagine that Yo Han has flaunted his dalliances with other men in front of her).

I know I'm very, very firm about this but Elijah doesn't know that Yo Han and Ga On have the hots for each other. And not because she's stupid, but because she's grown up in a country where straightness is the norm and Yo Han has done everything he can to hide the depth of his and Ga On's relationship from her. Also, she's a self-centred teenager x'D

Like, take me for an example. I was around 23-24 and very comfortable in my own pansexuality but was still IN NO WAY PREPARED when my mum basically went: "I may only have had sex with two women in my life but, let me tell you — 10/10, would recommend." Because I had only ever seen her date and talk about men before and therefore assumed she had no interest in anything else. That's how easy it is to miss that someone close to you isn't entirely straight — especially if it's a parent/guardian.

So I really don't think that Elijah would notice until it gets a lot more obvious than this xD

Which wasn't technically what your ask was about (sorry for the tangent xD), but still important to know because Elijah really won't be all that helpful when it comes to Yo Han and Ga On figuring out their feelings for each other. In fact, she might just end up making things harder for them without meaning to. But more about that in later chapters ;)

ANYWAY. Thank you so much for the lovely ask! I'm so happy to hear that people are this excited and involved in my story! And, tbh, I can't help replying because I'm very excited, too, and love talking about my writing, my thoughts, and my takes on these characters. How could I resist? More often than not, I have to cut my answers short because I keep writing longer and longer ones.

Like, you guys have no idea how long the first drafts of my author's notes usually are. One time I had to cut half of it because it was reaching truly spectacular lengths. And sure, I know that some of you probably wouldn't complain if I had posted that first draft, but I'm trying to contain myself, okay? And also not reveal too much since it might end up spoiling future plot points. It's a constant struggle.

So yeah. I'm actually consciously holding back a lot of the time because I'm trying to not come off as completely unhinged x'D

I know that wyrms don't actually care that much but I do wonder if PK making himself bugsized is an anomaly among wyrms. I feel like he's just enough of a Strange Person to do that and I also feel like he made the decision when he was still Young And Stupid.

Tbf I feel like he had to have been an anomaly based on what Godseeker said when talking about his corpse. IIRC, she said something along the lines of how confused she was that he made himself small when the vast, magnificent form would have drawn much more attention. Godseeker, as I've said before, has a very flawed and biased perspective, but she does know enough about the link to worship and power for me to think she might be right with this one, in that PK's original wyrm form was much more adept at conquering and gathering prospective worshippers. Him casting that aside to take on a bug form and walk among them as their king is an anomaly that sticks out like a sore thumb among all the other, more distant gods of Hallownest, so I can only assume that he did it bc he was genuinely fascinated and charmed by them, which is further confirmed by the lengths he was willing to go to in order to save them vs use them as pawns/simply let them die like Unn and Radi. He def. got in over his head considering the fact that he canonically became a shut-in recluse, but the point is still there- dude's just weird.

I don't think this is a case of him being young and dumb either, PK is genuinely just a really fucking weird god. There's canon evidence of him bargaining with the Mosskin/Unn, Herrah, and the Mantis Lords as if he were their equal, even though he is a god who probably could have just enthralled and conquered them to do his bidding. He won his chunk of Hallownest by getting the moths to swap religion vs just brute force conquering, like Radi did. Dude's like that weird quiet kid in math class who does his level best to not be seen who you could probably kick over with zero effort, but somehow ends up being respected anyways bc he's a crazy good tutor if you can manage to corner and bribe him after class. W e i r d

(I also take her line about how abruptly his power vanished to be proof that his death was a suicide attempt, but tbf it was also very vague. Everything about him post-canon just screams 'I'm dying leave me alone' energy rather than him being fully done for, which makes sense given how terribly long it is for gods to truely die)

There are so many people praising Leigh Bardugo as a great writer, doing crazy stuff... And I just don't get it? OK. Six of Crows is great! But the Grisha Trilogy overall is average, with tons of issues that I won't name here, because you already know them pretty well. Although, let's say that overall, if you turn off your brain, the trilogy works. (Even if, between us, such a thing comes out today, it gets demolished) The books around, like the storybook, or the story of the Darkling (especially this one) are pretty neat. But the King of Scars duology is a monumental disaster that just shatters everything the previous books have presented?! And yet, this duology is considered by many people as the best part of the Grishaverse?! Wtf?! I have seen extremely sharp people in terms of analysis and reflection find these fabulous things! I saw a girl on healthy relationships be team Mal?! Why do people fall so deeply into these bullshit books?!

Re: your last post about people replacing Snape with Regulus... oof it's my pet peeve. Regulus has potential to be super interesting and complex in his own right, but when he's made out to be a sarcastic potions genius with Dark tendencies who was groomed into the Death Eaters and who loves James and turns spy to protect him, it's always a little disappointing. Now he's just Snape-lite, but with all of Snape's less palatable, more interesting facets stripped away.

That's what i always figured it came down to: the messiness of Snape's story. It's uncomfortable and not aesthetic in any way. It challenges established fanon. It makes Snape difficult to flatten and fit into the standard fanon tropes. Much easier for people to take the parts they find interesting (more parts than i think people care to admit) and apply them to characters with less going on. It can sometimes feel like a lost opportunity; it would be cool to either explore Severus himself on a deeper level, or embrace the other characters fully and flesh them out with original ideas. Idk. I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum here or anything, but just my own personal observations & lamentations.

I couldn't agree more with all of this. Exactly, I always really liked Regulus and I am super interested in him honestly, but fanon about him is so... random and also kind of boring and it makes me not want to interact with any of it lol. Like yeah I guess he was definitely groomed into joining the Death Eaters (by Bellatrix most likely, I hate when it's Snape), I mean he was 16 when he joined, but literally Snape was groomed too and imo probably in a more extreme way. Reg already had those beliefs growing up. I've always had I guess a sympathetic view of Regulus just because he was so young when he died. But it's imo unfair to his story to pretend he did it for James when u know who he actually did it for? KREACHER (my beloved) and that's so much more interesting, to me at least.

So true like he's absolutely given Snape's traits and story while Snape is stripped down into something barely recognisable. 100% it's because he and his story aren't aesthetically pleasing or simplistic enough to flatten into cute little tropes. Like it's not pleasant, it's tragic and messy and miserable. And you're so right to point out that this story IS actually compelling to people because they obviously do use it in a way. also lmao at reg being a potions genius that's so blatant

Idk it is a shame because as you've said, either snape or regulus would be really interesting characters to explore in their own right. People are totally allowed to make up whatever they want- imo they should be a little more discerning in labelling their fanon as AU/canon divergent/absolutely made up rather than insisting it's based in canon, that's all. Bc otherwise it creates a lot of confusion and also ill will towards people who actually enjoy the real characters

i AM #1 isabel fan but i am and always will be the #not1butstillprettyupthere max fan. max puckett is up there as one of my favorite protagonists of all time and i feel like so much of what makes max interesting either A) gets pushed aside in fandom for the sake of shipping b) get pushed aside in canon for the sake of snappy writing.

i love how fiercely protective he can be while doubling as a massive coward in the right situation. hes guarded and untrusting and makes snap judgements of people to keep up his Cool Guy Aloof New Kid schtick but risks his life for isabel after only three? ish? days of knowing her. and then CONTINUES to not take shit. he calls people out when something happens that bothers him- not to start a fight, but as a verbal acknowledgment that he’s not gonna stand around passively when he hears some fucked shot going down. and he doesn’t hold grudges! except his bat he points stuff out and then proceeds to get over it immediately because its a pain in the ass but not enough to make him waste his own time thinking about it.

i think max and isabel are so sooo good for each other theyre like soulmates that were never supposed to meet to me. interpret that statement however u want. idc what kind of relationship they have their dynamic transcends it all imo theyre each others Person. they Get It. and they know each other. max got thrown out of a train protecting isabel. isabel threw herself out of a train to protect max. and 20 minutes prior they were sitting in complete bored silence completely apathetic towards each other. THATS nuts 2 me. thats the shit that gets me.

max is a physical badass (gymnastics, hitball, spirits sometimes, broke his arm to protect johnny) but hes SUUUUUCH a massive coward he like gives in IMMEDIATELY if he gauges a situation as ‘not worth it’ (tells suzy the true nature of the AC after minimal prodding just bc he wanted to get away from her freak ass, ditched serge in the hallway because he couldn’t be bothered to listen to his student counsel talk). ed thinks hes a coward (accurate) and that isabel started hanging with max because max is not a coward (inaccurate) but max has more self preservation (dont look at what i just wrote about breaking his arm its an outlier) than almost anyone in the comic.

he’s a good protagonist because he offers a straight man for mayviews wackyness to bounce off of, which in comparison makes him the cynic, but he’s also usually genuinely really nice and encouraging to people he just meets (alex and the recorder, giving pj pep talks). he never lets his cynicism turn him into a jerk, hes just sarcastic and doesn’t take bullshit lying down. i wrote something on this earlier that i don’t remember well enough to reiterate here but i will ALWAYS be a max puckett fan. when i was 16 i shaved my head and after doodling myself someone reblogged it tagged as #max puckett so now we have an Assigned Kinship At Reblog (AKAR) blood bond
