Was Orpheus actually this awful to you if you become a mindflayer? Because if so, I suddenly care a lot less about standing around awkwardly until he decided to sacrifice himself to the change.
Ack, no! Dude's mood turns a 180 degrees when you go squid. Happiest and most respectful Githyanki you ever did see. For various reasons. I've heard some folks say it's a bit too 180 for them, but I got buddy vibes from him, so I like him.
I just. hrm. How do you say-focused on drawing the silly/drama situations that keep giving his eons-worth of inner monk peace a run for his money. Poked the buddy bear as it were. Greygold has a way of bringing out the worst or best in people.
Take the Omeluum Comic for example: While Omeluum is the chillest Mindflayer a Mindflayer can ever chill, I only drew the moment where Greygold inadvertently unchilled the heck out of that squid. No fun drawing the chill bits. Same with Orpheus.
My bad for only depicting Orpheus' cranky-ass side though (cranky-ass Orpheus amuses me). Game-wise, it's like Voss said, chillest githyanki to ever chill after having his 10 minute temper tantrum.
Orpheus is just. not chill whenever Greygold insists on saving/co-operating with the mindflayer that killed all of his personal honor guards and siphoned his powers for a long-ass time is all
Maybe there are other reasonable interpretations with Orpheus having the capability to be hella chill with working with the Emperor, but I thought it more fun having that continued friction between Orph and Emps. Besides drama, it's the only explanation I can reason with as to why there's no option to un-enthrall Emps. ORPH, WHERE'S THE OPTION, SUPPOSEDLY CHILL BUDDY???? YOU GOT SOMETHING AGAINST- oh no wait, yeah you do.
#Off comic-screen Greygold and Orpheus treat each other with the utmost respect; is all good#Really Greygold was surprised it was only a ten minute tantrum and not anything worse given the circumstances#I just keep comic-screening the moments that exasperate Orpheus to no end#Orph's even considerate enough to ask 'what message would you like me to tell my people?'#sure there was no 'maybe don't kill all squids???' but next best thing was 'no two mindflayers are alike' and he was like 'you got it!'

Firstly, I dedicate this cheese moment to the song LP- One Last Moment . Be sad with me.
Secondly, ha, this moment probably doesn't hold as much impact nowadays but I drew this when patch 0 only had TWO OPTIONS and NOTHING ELSE. You could say it's my loving 'like fuck we won't ever see each other again my sun, moon, stars, and all of the above' response to Lae'zel's Goodbye. Had to give myself hope gosh darn it. But it's lovely to know that Greygold wasn't wrong. So I share cheesy moment anyway.
Third. YEAH I SAID GO. BABE'S GOTTA KILL VLAAKITH. You think Greygold is gonna be selfish and ask her to stay now??? After all that? PUH. Greygold knows responsibility sucks, but set a killer hawk free and all that. (of course I checked what's up with the other choice after the game and 'oofed' but still. PRINCIPLES. Gave myself delusional hope anyway pssh.)

Final Showdown pt 2.
So the key to becoming a lil more chill with the patch 0 Orpheus ending is realizing what I can get away with off camera. Brain fell down and nobody saw how we landed? No Emps in sight? Who knows long it took to regroup? One reasonable patch 0 ending where everyone lives coming up.
and I would've been content with this ending too if it weren't for those meddling patches.
Felt validated about the artifact solution though when the epilogue came out. As if Greygold wouldn't keep that lil doo-hickey after all this, practically a bag of holding for people.
Had to jump some logic hoops for Orph though. Don't think Greygold would be willing to risk any potential confrontation with Orpheus about Emps after this. Try and pull their first Squid Trick on him. But uh. Turns out! Orph Buddy's got mad wisdom. Dude has probably seen every Squid Trick in the book. Although. Not so silly as Greygold's attempts.

Aye I have! I had a listen-for-hours phase with that lovely song after beating the game, ohohoho~
And it makes complete sense to me because it's also the song that inspired the Greygold loves their friends to hell and back comic!
For Greygold specifically, I interpreted the tune as them having never been closer to death but also never have they been more determined to stay alive. Because nothing will stop them until their own personal quest is completed and that is wanting to live life to the fullest.
And they're pretty sure it don't get any more full than seeing their friends' happiness prosper after all this, yes yes yes~

So. Orpheus is Greygold's best friend forever no take-backsies.
That prince can never undo the bond that he has wrought upon himself that day because Orph ol' buddy ol' pal has proven that-
✨Anything is possible✨
Not just githyanki and Mindflayer working together, but Orpheus and Emps, the two that fate has tried stubbornly to prevent, co-operated.
Like Minsc said at some point, everyone is capable of great good and great evil.... and proving Emps and Orph wrong that they CAN work together, suck it you two.
in that moment, no regrets saving the prince. Greygold is indeed gonna hold this over Orph and Emps head until the end of days.
(Can't believe combat mode gave me such a hollywood moment of having the only one who could save emps be orpheus with his last ki points, haaaa, IT WAS WILD GUYS- Sometimes if the story can't supply you with the ultimate pina colada alliance, combat mode's got your back \o/)

I wanted the final showdown to look pretty. Unfortunately, pretty takes time and life keeps being a ✨butt✨
Gonna be real with ya: Not much changes mechanically-speaking! But playing Patch 0, it seemed like a legit Good Strategy at the time. You can creative license the ending to your hearts content!
Game-wise: eh.
Story-Wise: Amazing, Dramatic. So much gosh darn potential.
