sam with religious trauma!!!
he was so into heaven and its angels being righteous and gods higher power in the early seasons. only to be so devastatingly wrong about all of it. chuck was literally their big bad, end game villain. the god he prayed to every night was the one who ruined his life, and got enjoyment out of it. there is no way sam wasn't bitter every time he saw a church. he would get violently angry if anyone ever said 'i'm praying for you'. scream crying 'why' to a god he used to worship, but now knows that he never even cared. he tried so hard to have faith, only to learn he was supposed to be one with the actual devil? there is no way that doesn't leave some ugly psychological scars.

the most ridiculous thing is how prophets in spn are protected only in season four. what about kevin and donatello and those dudes who crowley kidnapped. no wonder they're dead

I NEED someone to make an au where Adam Milligan is the original (biblical) Adam and Michael falls for him so he starts visiting him and Adam falls for Michael instead of Eve. Then they start dating in secret because they don’t want Chuck to get mad and then one day they’re caught fucking or something by Eve and she just sorta becomes their wingwoman and helps them keep it a secret from Chuck. (Also Chuck catches them and something happens your choice)
Also guys if you write this fic or have found a fic like this tell me in the comments

The use of Chuck as a tool of analysis in fandom is genuinely so frustrating, because fundamentally it encourages people not to engage with spn as a piece of media made by real life flawed human writers, which is what it is!! Like, Cas’s inadvertent structural protagonist status at various points has nothing to do with ~him vs Chuck~ or whatever, but due to specific oversights by the writers such that his actions are the ones driving the plot rather than salmondean’s. ‘Chuck’ isn’t trying to ~keep him out of the story~, that doesn’t really mean anything (and if it wasn’t for that one line in Unity, no one would necessarily even think it) – it’s that the writers, trying to keep him off screen, gave him more interesting and more impact-having things to do than they gave salmondean with their much larger amount of screen time. Like I get the Chuck explanation being enjoyable, but we already have a real life explanation, and it’s pretty fun in itself imo! Gamble very much did arguably make Cas the structural protagonist partially as a direct result of trying to kill him off, which is kind of hysterical.
Also the thing is like, Chuck as the authorgodvillain was such a late addition that pretty much nothing is designed around him being the most satisfactory explanation – and it’s incredibly nebulous what viewing earlier events in that light of his intervention is even supposed to entail. If the writers had the courage of their convictions a little more, we could have been invited to recontextualise various really out of left field events in this light, eg @autisticandroids has talked about this re godstiel and the way the leviathans came out of nowhere, and me and them have also discussed it re gadreel being set up to be the “perfect deantransgression” (as @themauvesoul has pointed out) – it would make sense for a villainous author trying to create drama (and undermine Cas) to have contrivedly brought those things about specifically to that end. It is absolutely the case that there are places where it can be fun to say “it would make sense for Chuck to have made this happen for x/y/z reasons”, and it would have been very brave and sexy for the writers to be like “oh yeah lol this thing we wrote would have made more sense of it was Chuck”, but it would be very silly to say “oh the leviathans coming out of nowhere wasn’t actually bad writing because that was Chuck” y’know? Chuck as the authorgodvillain is a concept you can play with if you like, but he’s not a tool of analysis. In the show’s protagonist-powers-deconstruction episode the writers aren’t even brave enough to attack the most egregious writing conveniences facilitating the story, so extending the Chuck lens anywhere else in a way that lets them off the hook is extremely generous, as well as just pretty meaningless.
Fundamentally , the main function that Chuck as the authorgod really serves is a way to handwave away the bad writing (or any other disliked things) in spn when 1) the bad writing is interesting and 2) do we really want to give the writers that get out of jail free card?

been seeing lots of Chuck-As-Demiurge/"Flawed God" spn meta and it made me realize that my understanding of Chuck is???? not common????
so my hc/understanding was the Chuck Shurley was/is a human prophet who was possessed by God. First in the usual prophetic sense, then later as a "word of God" type prophet, like MAJOR biblical-level power, in order to pass God's direct thoughts/opinions on to Sam and Dean- and then lastly, God took Chuck as a full-time vessel.
so re: this, I kind of wondered if in the finale, the guy Sam and Dean left scrabbling on the ground was... just human Chuck. is it less meaningful? eh, kinda. does it make the finale make more sense? ...yup.
But most importantly. Picture this. You're a writer, creating OCs that you whump/angst/generally torture the CRAP out of, somehow this becomes an incredibly popular book series, you're touring, you're making BANK. Then later, you MEET YOUR OCS, they are REAL, and apparently so is magic, and the "prophet of God" thing that you thought was a writing/inspo device you'd made up is real, and God is talking to you. so uh, what the fuck. then everything goes black
and when you fade back in, its YEARS later, you're beat up and lying in the dirt, and yoUR OCS ARE STANDING OVER YOU, YELLING AT YOU FOR MAKING THEIR LIVES MISERABLE
THE GUYS *YOU THOUGHT WERE YOUR WHUMP OCS*
TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE MORTAL AND WILL INEVITABLY AGE AND DIE LIKE EVERY OTHER HUMAN
AND THEN DRIVE AWAY IN THE CAR THAT *YOU HAD THOUGHT YOU MADE UP*
all before you can get out so much as a coherent "what the fuck is going on"
like I'm sorry. conceptually that's hilarious
the whump OC you made when you were 25: "YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE A NORMAL BORING LIFE AND AGE AND GET OLD AND DIE! FUCK YOU GOODBYE FOREVER"
you:

Can I just say that I absolutely love the fact that Dean is so nervous every time he talks to Death, but not when he talks to Chuck. Like it shows that he is very clearly capable of being reasonably afraid of cosmic, all-powerful beings, just not That One.

one of the most little sibling coded thing sam could ever do when in 11×21, they're talking to chuck and sam is trying to fill the silence and says something and right when he finishes, sam turns to dean like "help me with this conversation. take over this conversation. say something."
just the way he turned to dean for reassurance was epitome of being a little sibling.

Gabriel was an angel serving under his father, a god. Then gained his “freedom” serving under another. Sure he gets the women, and the booze, and the self indulgence, but none of it ever feels entirely genuine coming from Gabriel, like it’s all part of the grander trick. He made his whole body a shrine to another, in ways you could say he was Loki’s best and most favourite devotee, and in the way Loki speaks to him I get the feeling he never even considered them equals. Even if Gabriel was stronger, he’s still just the angel and Loki seems to make that apparent. Who is Gabriel when he’s by himself? What are the indulgences he dabbles in that he was so desperate to leave Heaven for? Is he happy? Or is he just chasing the high of God in any pagan willing to touch him, hoping to find fragments of a missing father in them? Every single movement heavily calculated to be in reverence of another creature, imposing a grand image of the trickster so everyone will know a name that doesn’t even belong to him. Is he someone without a master? What hurt worse, his Father’s disappearance or Loki’s betrayal? Or does it all feel the same to an angel, being abandoned by it’s lord?
