Cut Through The Noise
Even as the strike ends, the Palestinian genocide has not.
Now more than ever, there are so many conflicting voices. People with their own self-serving, hateful motivations speak over us, and sometimes our own voices can turn against us. We may feel like our voice isn't enough or we aren't doing enough.
This is why it's so important to learn to shut down that noise. No matter how much people scream that what we're doing is useless or a waste of time, keep talking. Keep talking about Palestine. Keep talking about Palestine for as long as this goes on, both online and in real life. If Israel won't end their genocide, we won't end our protest.
Below is a list of what you can do and the poem transcript.
Check and spread this post which contains a comprehensive list on how to help Palestine.
Learn about the history of Palestine and how the displacement and eventual genocide of Palestinians started in 1948.
Learn more about Palestine, the myths surrounding it and the arguments debunking it.
Boycott companies who are either directly or indirectly supporting and finding Palestine's genocide.
Click a button to raise funds for UNRWA – an organisation aiding Palestinian refugees.
Attend a protest.
Help Gazans stay connected by purchasing eSims for them.
Donate to the following organizations – any amount, no matter how small, goes a long way:
UNWRA
Care for Gaza
Medical Aid for Palestinians
Palestine Children's Relief Fund
Islamic Relief
Here's another post detailing more charities you can donate to
And most importantly of all: Don't Stop Talking About Palestine! However you interpret it as – creating art, talking to the people in your life, emailing and calling your representatives, even reblogging and making posts – make your voice loud and clear!
— Poem Transcript —
There's a lot of noise right now
Screams dehumanizing poor souls
Groans from those in willful ignorance
People digging deeper and deeper holes
And it's overwhelming, it really is
I do not blame you
Sometimes you feel that your voice is too small
I feel that way too
But despite that, I urge you to keep going
And demand for what's right
Even it sounds like a whimper
You're still joining in the fight
And soon the rest of us will join
We can stand together here
We can cut through the white noise
And make our message clear

100 Proposals for the Drive Thru Art Box The DTAB is a weird art space in Savannah. A former drive thru menu container for Krispy Chic, a South Georgia chain that seems to have served pork chops, quail, fish and fried chicken with three sides. I wasn’t here for that, I mean I was but I never noticed it while visiting in 1998, or 2000 and it was gone by the time I moved here, replaced by a now treasured pub that serves meals with a side of house made ketchup. When approached by Sulfur Studios to make something for the box I was in a “say yes to everything” kind of mood and immediately began cycling through ideas for an installation. I figured I’d maybe build a 3 dimensional hamburger and slather it in crackle paste and paint. I made several digital and gouache drawings trying to wrap my head around what this could look like. Having little experience building 7 foot hamburgers, however, made me apprehensive. Planning in this instance was more fun than executing. It dawned on me that making plans for the drive through art box could be the work. This week’s install are the initial sketches for burger face. For the next 15 weeks I will be installing six new proposals a week in the box, a total of 96 will be made as we go + 4 drawings I made preparing the box itself that won’t be installed = a nice round 100. For more see https://artssoutheast.org/calendar/2023/3/9/chris-moss-100-proposals-for-the-drive-thru-art-box For documentation of the whole project see https://christophermoss.biz and for sales DM (at Green Truck Pub) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cppht-IrV-r/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES
📅 FRI. 26TH JANUARY 2024
    THERE'S LIFTING FOR YOU
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person (Job 22:29).
Pastor Chris Says
━━━━━━━━━━
These days, it's not uncommon to hear statements like "I don't know what's going on; things are going bad everywhere. People are generally discouraged." Don't join the bandwagon to talk like that. You're a child of God; your life is different. You play by a different set of rules. Always remember that.
The Bible says "When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up...." Did you notice that God tells us how we should respond when there's distress and gloom and men are cast down? He tells you what to say: "There's lifting up!" There's lifting power in you; power to rise over and above the crises of life. So, instead of joining the complainers, you ought to declare: "There's lifting up for me!" Glory to God.
When you say, "There's lifting up," what does it actually mean? It means to raise from a lower to a higher position, to elevate, to raise in rank or condition. It also means to put an end to a blockage or siege by withdrawing or causing the withdrawal of invading forces. It means to revoke, rescind, lift an embargo, to pay off an obligation.
There's a lifting for you by the miracle power of God.
Is there something that's been weighing you down? Or is it a raise or promotion you're expecting at work? The Bible says "For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south" (Psalm 75:6). That means it comes from God. Just know that there's going to be a "lift." Glory to God!
Maybe you made a mistake that landed you in the position you're in today, and you're wishing you did things differently. Well, the Lord is your riddance. Set your gaze on Him; don't look at the problems that may be before you. Set your gaze on high, on the Master. He'll lift you out of that trouble. The Bible says, "He raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes, and make them inherit the throne of glory..." (1 Samuel 2:8 NKJV). Blessed be God!
          🙏 P R A Y E R
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Dear Father, I thank you for the assurance of your lifting power in my life. I refuse to be discouraged by the challenges around me. Instead, I declare that I'm making progress, prospering and waxing great in every area of my life! The greater One lives in me, and He's made me bigger, greater and superior to inflation, insecurity, sickness, disease and the devil. I'm a victor in Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!
       📖 FURTHER STUDY:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Psalm 3:3;   But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; My glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
Psalm 27:6;   And now shall mine head be lifted up, Above mine enemies round about me: Therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
Psalm 146:8;   The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind

Stray kids ideal types *my opinion*
*the gifs are p irrelevant* I JUST GOTTA SAY FIRST OF ALL THIS IS COMPLETELY ALL MY OPINION AND COULD ALL BE A PILE OF SHITTY DRIBBLE SO DONT THINK TOO MUCH INTO IT!!
Bang Chan:
He probably wouldn’t care for looks, maybe finding less stereotypical things attractive, such as you being taller than him. He’d want someone with a complex mind, someone who he can explore and not get bored of after finding everything out about them in 1 chat. Not gonna lie I see him more with someone who’s not Korean but who knows?? Someone understanding and someone willing to comprise, that would be a big one for Chris. To him it’s important for the pair of you to make time for each other but also have time apart, to have time to work separately. But also someone fun, someone willing to go on a spontaneous adventure, but at the same time someone who’s down to chill, to listen to music with him and someone for him to feel at home in comfortable silence with.
He probably likes people who are usually quite shy but not to the point where they don’t talk to anyone. The type to talk to old ladies on the bus but never initiating the conversation even if they want to. The type who, at school, sat near to the front and got on well with the teacher because they never did anything wrong.
Tumblr media
Woojin:
The duality king himself probably wants someone just like that. Classy but cute, sexy but charming. Can switch it up just like that: adaptable I guess. Someone who is quiet but pretty “normal.” I feel he’d like someone who can also sing, professionally or not. Perhaps this is just from his position within the group but I believe he’d want someone to look after, someone to not necessarily baby but someone he can be “the man” with. He’d probably prefer someone smaller than him for that reason, perhaps just a few inches smaller. He’d love someone intelligent, like school smart not street smart. Someone who listens well and someone who, on a whole, is heartwarming.
I think he’d like someone with brown eyes and naturally dark hair that goes past the shoulders. Straight or curly hair he doesn’t care. Someone who takes care of their appearance and does simple things like paint their nails or ware a watch, just to change things up and not just be a plain Jane.
Tumblr media
Lee Know:
First of all someone who can eat, like he wants someone that loves their food I think. Great fashion sense is a must, possibly more of a classier and rich taste than anything else. Someone who looks clean and tidy on the week days, but when it’s just you and him, messy hair and leggings are perfect. Probably want someone to keep him on his toes, their personality filled with fire and sass, but also sometimes being soft too. He’s the type of guy to want to have a best friend type of s/o, someone he can laugh and joke with as well as cuddle up with. He’s probably really picky about appearance, or so he says, definitely someone who thinks that if he isn’t physically attracted to you that there’s no point (until he learns 🥴.)
He’s definitely the type who goes for people with a good sense of humour. Without that you’re pretty much dead to him let be real. He wants someone who he can tease but also someone who’s confident enough to tease him back, someone who’s sure of themselves and isn’t particularly insecure about a lot of things. He’d find it real hot if you could just be like “bitch I know I’m fabulous step tf aside”
Tumblr media
Changbin:
Trying to avoid the cliche cute because to me I feel like he might want someone more like his “dark side.” But nevertheless he’s probably want someone cute behind closed doors, only for him. He’d be so damn attracted to someone giving off cold vibes, he lives for the chase. Effortlessly fashionable, someone who throws on a hoodie and some pants/ a skirt and look fucking amazing. I still think he’d want someone younger, a mature person who could still take care of him in the same way that he could take care of you. I feel like someone who was unique in their sense of humour (like Minho) would be great for Changbin, it would drive him crazy not knowing the next thing to come out of your mouth or why you are laughing to yourself.
He’s probably attracted to people who are willing to know everything about him, who are willing to learn new things for him because he is for you. Someone who likes him and no one else, he wants you for himself and hopes you feel the same about him.
Tumblr media
Hyunjin:
I was going to say someone who is the perfect combination of looks and personality but that’s not to say Hyunjin cares about looks. He actually probably cares minimally for looks, definitely more attracted to someone’s personality. Saying that, I think he’d want someone who was cute but that’s it. He’d probably want someone who’s bright and bubbly, someone who’s humour isn’t dark but instead fun and upbeat. Someone who loves dogs!!! Not the most important thing but he’d want someone confident when talking to others. He’d want someone who’s a good listener, someone who gives good advice and can keep secrets. Someone who likes him for him, not just his looks or whatever.
He probably likes people who have a lot of quirky, well hidden secrets, the mysterious type even though they have a lot of friends. He’d love to be the guy to know everything about you, stuff that other people don’t know. Someone who will make him feel just special as he makes you.
Tumblr media
Han:
Definitely someone who’s bubbly. Like maybe they’re quiet with other people but they unleash their real personality only with him. Younger or older, he doesn’t care but he wants pet names to be involved that match the age. I feel like height wouldn’t matter either. He’d probably want someone who lives life on the edge, someone who takes risks and doesn’t have many fears (unlike him lmao.) He’d probably find it cute if you read or do puzzles or write!!! Or just generally passionate about something he could potentially have an interest in. Someone he could help with work and someone who would help him with work respectively. He’d like someone cool, someone that knows they are cool and that other people know as “the cool kid.”
This might sound odd but I feel like he’d be attracted to people who like junk food. Someone who doesn’t care for diets or healthy eating but will still join him at the gym to both burn off some of what you just put on at the pizza place, you know? Probably finds it cute if you like weird food combinations like milkshake and fries or curry and cheese or something like that.
Tumblr media
Felix:
I feel like Felix would want someone who’s in touch with their emotions, someone he can look after while they tell him all what’s wrong, as a sign of trust. Someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously too, will laugh if they fall or do something embarrassing. Also a little bit of a dare devil, would do something like bungee jumping with him, but they’ll beg to go first. Probably someone a little disorganised but still someone who knows what they want. I feel like he’d go for someone shorter with a younger-looking face. I also feel he’d be happier with someone who could speak English with him, but if you spoke another language he’d find that real cute.
Felix would love it if you could pull off just simply a pair of shorts, a tee and flip flops or something summery like that. Also graphic tees. I feel like he’d want someone with short blonde hair maybe whose face always looks pure and natural. Someone who’s colourful and bright and isn’t afraid to experiment with the colour of their clothes or even their hair sometimes.
Tumblr media
Seungmin:
It might be a weird thing to say but I feel seungmin would want someone that didn’t care for fashion or football or the social norm or whatever. He’d want someone that’s their own individual person, a interesting character built inside of a magnificent work of art. Someone clever would suit Seungmin well, the type of person that does really well on tests because they care and because they revise. He’d probably want to get to know someone well before dating them too, as well as the other person having an in depth understanding of him too. Maybe someone open to knew ideas, someone who’s not narrow minded and someone who can speak their mind while having respect for everyone.
Someone who takes pride in themselves I think Seungmin would like, someone who always tries and doesn’t give up on their ideas. Probably someone with a mature sense of humour, someone that rolls their eyes at dad jokes, unless it’s Seungmin who says it. Possibly someone who’s good with kids.
Tumblr media
I.N:
Jeongin is the type to fall for the class clown. Someone that constantly keeps him smiling and is the easy target for his meaningless teasing and joking. I actually think he’d want someone older, but only like a year maybe. He’d love if you were free spirit and lived without a care in the world for anything other than for that that meant the most to you. Probably likes it when people are close with their family and their friends, not particularly popular, not partying at night and being around lots of people all the time but actually respecting their close circle and not really moving out of it. Someone with pretty hands?? Much like his own, I feel he’d want someone with a pretty smile, possibly with braces but that’s no biggie of course. Someone who looks clean but not necessarily put together, baggy dungarees and a sweater are his favourite look.
He probably likes someone who quiet immature and finds the most ridiculous things funny but wouldn’t draw attention to themselves when laughing at it. Probably loves seeing you laughing with your friends or trying to hold in your laugh when someone falls. Also someone who plays games, console like him.

I’m taking a break from my writing to answer this! Thanks for sending it anon! I love coming up with headcanons. Also, this is my first one so sksksk enjoy ❤️
The Boys Finding (Y/N) Hurt, TW: abuse aftermath, bullying
💜 JOEL PIMENTEL -
• He’s definitely pissed that you’re hurt, but cares more about you
• Makes sure your wounds are tended to before he gives each one a little kiss
• “Babe, I want you to know that I love you no matter what. These bruises are only temporary.”
• Totally is the one to suggest cuddles
• but he makes sure not to hurt your bruised skin
• Sings to you to help you calm down some more
• Holds you close
• “I won’t let them hurt you anymore. I promise.”
• Will be at your house in five minutes (if not already there)
💚 ZABDIEL DE JESUS -
• Boy is he P I S S E D
• but not at you, only at those who hurt you
• Whispering sweet nothings to you as he hugs you close to his body
• Basically like Joel in saying they will heal
• Threatens to beat up the person who hurt you
• Hears that it’s your dad and homeboy threatens to fight your dad
• You tell him not to worry, but he does anyway
• Takes you to McDonald’s to get you some fries or a milkshake
• Late night conversations about nothing in mind as long as you’re smiling
❤ RICHARD CAMACHO -
• He finds you on the ground after the mean girls’ boyfriends pushed you. Bad boy Richuki gets into a fight and teaches them a lesson
• Now you’re both patching up your wounds and explaining to the headmaster why you’re both bruised up
• Plot twist: Richard doesn’t get in trouble for defending you
• He for sure skips the rest of the day with you to make sure you feel okay
• Lots of cuddles and kisses from Richuki, your champion
• Late night drive in his car to loud music, stopping on a cliffside to watch the stars twinkle overhead
• The man brought a picnic to help ease the pain a little more
• Everytime those guys come back, he’s glaring and he has his arm around you
• No more bruises while your badass boyfriend is around
💙 ERICK BRIAN COLON -
• baby boy is so sad because you’re sad
• “Tu estas triste? Why?”
• Lots of hugs and he’s trying to crack jokes while holding you
• kisses to your cheeks while counting “Beso uno, beso dos....”
• Movie time with him to all the best Disney movies
• He tells you how gorgeous you are even while your skin is different colors because of the bruises
• “You look pretty, even moreso a work of art!” He’s trying-
• Plays guitar for you and sings to you quietly
• “Baby are you down, down, down, down, down... You shouldn’t be!” He finishes. What a goofball.
💛 CHRISTOPHER VELEZ -
• Usually all smiles, but when his baby is hurt, he’s sad and trying to calm you down.
• “What’s wrong, baby?”
• After hearing that you’re hurt because of a fight with your sibling/parents, he’s angry and threatening to do something
• Which is scary hot when it comes to this man, since he’s usually so jokey and trying to be funny (Protective Chris is so hot okay)
• He takes you to his favorite karaoke bar where you two can let go for a while
• Even though you’re a mess, he’s trying to sing badly on purpose to make you laugh. (Spoiler alert, it does)
• Christopher makes you laugh until you forget why you cried
• Listening to all the hits from the 80′s, Selena, Backstreet Boys, up to Ed Sheeran (modern music). Your boyfriend has amazing taste
• Maybe you two get matching tattoos (but not obvious ones to jinx anything). Or you pick a tattoo for him and laugh when he yelps from the pain.

10 random facts:
I speak with a stutter (it’s not as bad as it used to be when I was little but I still have it and I’m still kind of insecure about it)
Refer back to my weighing over 200 pounds: I don’t even look it, and it’s kind of a trip to see women weigh less than me who are freaking huge. I’m as big as I am because the other alternative was literally starving to death: I almost became an anorexic when I was 13, and it came to a head when I was 19 and wouldn’t stop losing weight from depression. So as part of my recovery, I reconciled my relationship with food, and I just started eating. I’m trying to get up to 230 and tbh, I wouldn’t mind climbing up to 240.
It’s funny because I feel like such a rebel liking Joey as much as I do. The latest thing is to like fat boys and “dad bods”, and even taking it further and getting like almost morbid about it--when I was writing Have Your Cake I often lurked in the feedism tags on here to grasp the idea of the community; when I visit them now, the latest thing is to be like “this lifestyle is totally gonna kill you but you’re sooo hot so keep it up!”. This almost feels akin to when Audrey Hepburn came on the beauty scene with her thin elegance, the reaction to all of the full figured woman: he’s a slim, lush, gorgeous man who needs a lot more love (”raw beauty if I ever did see it” as Mr. Lang put it).
I’ve always wanted to get inked but I never know what to ink myself with, or where to put it for that matter.
The one time I ever cut my hair, like had it cut short, was 20 years ago in the first grade. The longest it’s ever been was down to the halfway point of my thigh when I was... 15? Right now it’s down around my butt.
Recovering cutter: I started in 2006 after my grandpa passed and then I stopped; did it again after my parents split in 2011, and again after Chris passed; I’ve been clean since August 22, 2017, three months following his death.
Chris was a fan of my art. It’s true! My little cartoons never would’ve become the entities they are now without him.
My cartoons have been labelled everything from “grunge” to “metal” to (recently) “emo”. I’m actually fine with just any label you throw at them: just don’t call them anime because that’s not technically correct (anime is animation; manga is printed works, and even that’s bit of a stretch)--my writing meanwhile has been simply labelled “unusual”
I’ve always been a fic writer, but I never actually wrote-wrote a fanfic until I was a freshman in high school. I never went online with a fic until 2013 and then I pretty much stopped it for a few years to focus on school and preserving my mental health until earlier this year with Have Your Cake and Eat It.
Fuuuuuuuck I love food. Yeah, when I say you’re better off asking me what I don’t like I mean it. I will eat just about anything (i’m actually surprised I’m not fat tbh). I’m as much a lady of the flesh as I am a lady of intellect.

The Space Belongs to the Ace
Happy International Asexuality Day! I thought I'd make a tribute not only to all my fellow aces out there but also to space. To me, my asexuality is, on some level, connected to outer space, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
If you don't know what I mean by that, let me tell you why.
Space has always meant a lot of me as a kid long before I discovered my asexuality. It is defined as a near-perfect vacuum. Outside of celestial bodies, there is almost nothing out there. No air. No other signs of life as far as we are concerned.
Yet if you look beyond, you can discover something beautiful... You can discover stars that have been here for over a millenia. You can discover spirals that are expanding and will continue to expand. You can discover colours and shapes that can captivate you or even comfort you, telling you that everything will be okay.
That's how I felt when I was finally able to label my experiences. That same wonder astronauts feel when they make a new discovery about space? It is the same wonder I felt when I first heard the term "asexual".
Now there are people who are pushing us out of the LGBT+ community. Even after we built our own as they insisted, people still harrass us for "not being oppressed enough" or for "making up a sexuality" or even "endangering the kids by confusing them with something unnatural".
It's 2024. We can't keep pushing away our fellow members when the world is already pushing us away from society. Exclusionism has only ever served to tear us apart while the people who want to hurt us sit back and let us do the work for them. We can't keep doing this. We deserve to have our space.
We belong here too.

40 Things You Never Wanted To Know About Me
You probably already know me decently well or else you wouldn’t be reading this, so instead of rehashing the basic (boring) “getting to know me” questions I dug a little deeper and asked myself about what’s really important. Here is the result: 40 Things You Never Wanted To Know About Me. Enjoy!
1. What Parks and Rec character am I?
While I could argue for almost everyone on the show I’m probably most like Ben Wyatt: a white, brunette, and sad man who eats soup alone on a park bench (minus his love of math and rollerskate kink)
2: Top 5 books?
To Kill a Mockingbird, The Secret History, A Prayer for Owen Meany, The Help, 11/22/63
3: Top 5 movies?
Chinatown, Star Wars, Rear Window, National Treasure (nick cage can be good in small doses ok) and Nancy Drew (2007)
4: Top 5 shows?
Parks and Rec, B99, That 70′s Show, Mad Men, Arrested Development
5: Top 10 most iconic vines?
1) Chris is that a weed/Mary is that a police
2) Hi My Name is Trey I have A Basketball Game Tomorrow
3) Rebecca It’s Not What You Think
4) The one where the girl is just hitting elmo with a baseball bat
5) Anything Kermit but esp. the one where he falls off the building
6) You Know This Boy Got His Free Taco
7) 2 Bros Chillin in the Hot Tub
8) Waelcom to my Keeetchen we have bananis and avocadis
9) Whoever Threw That Paper Your Mom’s A Hoe
10) i spilled lipstick in your valentino bag (yOU SPILLED WHAHULAUG LIPSTICK IN MY VALENTINE WHITE BAG)
6: Where do I see myself in 21 years?
One of my dreams in life is to marry the heir to a prestigious winery out in wine country. I have a vision of myself at 39, waking up at 10 AM on a tuesday and standing on my private balcony in my state-of-the-art spanish stucco villa. i am drinking a chardonnay despite the early hour whilst i observe my grape empire in my silk negligee. the only event planned for the day is a portrait sitting for my rottweilers (4 of them), for which i have arranged spaces in the family’s private art gallery. i am aging well despite the harsh california sun and my partner and i have a trip to tuscany planned for the fall. it’s a charmed life and i never tire of eating grapes
7: Top 5 favorite cryptids
1) Nessie (Nessie is a true lady I believe in her)
2) Mothman (not real)/ el chupacabra (possibly real)
3) the kraken (definitely real)
4) Bigfoot (not real but a legend anyways)
5) the yeti (real only in russia)
8: Do I Believe in Ghosts
It’s a complicated topic and of course we will likely never know for sure but the short answer is yes. in my opinion though, what ghosts are is the important question: are they really the dead coming back to haunt the earth? are they just manifestations of energy that the mind interprets into recognizable shapes? hallucinations? or is it wish fulfillment and the reduction of tensions on a heavy conscience? our brains are capable of powerful things, but it begs the question as to whether if a human desperately wants something to be true does the human mind have the power to make it true? c. s. lewis mentioned once that he never understood the ghost debate since, given that ghosts are real, they have no real power over us or anything interesting to say. but i believe that just goes to show how the mystery is far often more important than the solution.
9: Best/Worst Month of the Year
Best: May/November (spring/fall in full swing, holidays, time off school, great atmosphere) Worst: August (too dang hot & start of school)
10: What is one of my embarrassing secrets
I didn’t learn how to tie my shoes until I was nine (velcro ftw)
11: What is my Dream Date
We go cryptid hunting in the woods and have a picnic in the dark; you supply dogs for entertainment and guardianship purposes, i supply drinks and the cryptozoological myths we are chasing. Afterwards we get gelato
12: Top 3 Presidents
(this is based solely on arbitrary opinion not policies) 1) Barry Obama 2) Lincoln  3) Millard Fillmore (his name is funny)
Honorable mention: jimmy carter (he was the only noncorrupt man in office for like 30 years before barry)
13: Top 3 Vice Presidents
1) John Adams, if nothing else but for the drama this man caused 2) Walter Mondale 3) the big boy JB
Honorable Mention: Nichard Rixon
14: Top 3 Secretaries of State
1) Madeline Albright 2) Henry Clay 3) Elihu P. Washburn
(note: secretaries of state have the funniest names, like Hamilton Fish (1869-1877) rest easy Mr. Fish)
15: Worst Activity they make you do in middle school PE
Middle school P.E. is the worst in general but I’m going to say either grading you on your shotput skills (?) or BMI (??) or just the tuesday run in general (luther kids know)
16: Top 4 Worst Scents
1) Washing a knife covered in peanut butter 2) Really cheap perfume that they sell in checkout lines at convenience stores 3) Olives 4) organic deodorant
17: Top 7 Conspiracy Theories
1) The Denver Airport is an underground military fallout shelter designed to protect the 1% from nuclear warfare
2) A Roman pope adjusted the Gregorian calendar so that his reign would fall on 1000 AD so we’re actually living in the year 1783
3) Paul McCartney is dead and was replaced prior to the Seargant Pepper album by a lookalike named Billy Shears
4) The state of Wyoming is a myth
5) Avril Lavigne died and was replaced back in the early 00’s
6) The Titanic sank because too many people went back in time to prevent it from sinking
7) Not to be cliche George Bush and the military-industrial complex orchestrated the 9/11 attacks (jet fuel can’t melt steel beams and all that)
18: Inside jokes with myself
I’m not usually a “gamer” but every year without fail someone introduces me to a game exactly at finals time and I get hooked and it ruins my gpa and study habits. This year it’s Stardew Valley, last year it was Dream Daddy and the year before that it was undertale and I blame Jojo for absolutely all of it bc they are usually the instigator. Anyway, every year I joke with myself about what game will derail my grades this year
19: Top 5 Worst Tactile Sensations
1) Putting tights or leggings on wet, hairy legs post-shower
2) Running fingernails along cardboard
3) Sweating in a turtleneck
4) Having wet, salty hair after swimming that drips down onto your back and makes the top of your shirt damp
5) Reaching into a bag of grapes and only finding really soft, slimy ones
20: Best Cat I’ve ever encountered
One time my friend and I were leaving Romancing the Bean and walking back to her car and the fattest, fluffiest, softest ginger cat I’ve ever seen came trotting up to us and flopped over at our feet. He was such a good boy!!! And so friendly with strangers!! He was very well groomed and just wanted some love, and whenever we stopped petting him he would jump up onto our legs and leave little wet paw prints everywhere, I wanted to kidnap him
21: Best dog I’ve ever encountered
All of them
22: Best squirrel I’ve ever encountered
My dad has befriended a squirrel named Nutty that likes to sneak into his office when the door’s open and steals peanuts. if the door is closed he’ll bang on it and scream until we acknowledge him
23: If I were a furry what would my fursona be
I do not know because I am not a furry. HOWEVER someone who is well-versed in furry matters told me once that I would be one of those long, nervous dogs like a greyhound maybe and tbh I could see it
24: Favorite/Least Favorite Disneyland Rides
My favorite has always been haunted mansion, except for the halloween season when it’s nightmare before christmas and then it’s thunder mountain. I just love the outside atmosphere of the house bc I’m a slut for that southern gothic architecture style. Worst is splash mountain because there’s no seatbelt and LOGICALLY i know I don’t need one but it doesn’t stop me from having a panic attack every time I get on and we go up the big hill as I worry about being flung from the toboggan across the park
25: Least favorite restaurant within 10 mile radius of my house
I live over by Porto’s so I am #blessed to be surrounded by some really dope food. However there is a hipster place a couple of blocks over in Toluca Lake that only serves bizarre food like fried chicken in maple syrup with waffle fries and it’s surprisingly bland, so the lack of taste combines with how expensive it is probably makes it the worst (it’s also forgettable bc I can’t even remember its name)
26: Rank of JBHS history department according to how good of a parent they would be
9.Mr. Bixler - I have never had this man so I can’t say shit. NA/10
8. Ms. Snowden - I’ve never had her either but I’ve heard enough about her between Burroughs and Luther to know that this woman is kind of scary, intimidating and uptight, all things I personally do not desire in a parent. 2/10
7. Mr. Hatch - I love Scott Hatch but he is a tremendous mess of a man. Judging by his wife’s instagram photos his idea of parenting is taking naps while cuddling his children and letting his wife do the rest of the hard work. Plus he seems like the type to be too wrapped up in his own melodrama and too busy hangin out with his best friend Edward Frankenbush playing Xbox to pay much attention to his kids. However, he did skip the first day of school to take his daughter to kindergarten so he gets points for that. 4/10
6. Mr. Lee - Mr. Lee is a very respectable guy who seems like he does a very good job providing for his family. He’s ranked as middle of the road because he’s a naturally private person so I can’t speak to his parenting tactics or personality much, however the few stories he shared about his daughter were very cute and he does the typical teacher/parent things like making her his screensaver on his computer. Overall, a very quality dad and man, 6.5/10
5. Mr. Fitz - Kyle Fitzgerald is similarly a mess of a man, but the difference between him and Scott Hatch is that he seems to make an investment in his kid. He always talks about current events in terms of what idiocy his poor daughter will have to put up with which shows his devotion to her well-being and survival in a confusing world. Also he brought her in to go swimming once while I was working at Verdugo and I got to see them having a great time on the splash pad and it warmed my heart. Great dad 7/10
4. Mr. Piper - Richard Piper is such a good father but in a detached way. He loves talking about his son and wife just as much as he loves talking about planes. The real kicker? When he talks about taking his son ON planes and geeking out over history together. He also asked all of his classes for people looking for tutoring work when his son was struggling in math which is so cute. Good guy Rick gets an 8/10.
2. (tie) Mr. Frankenbush and Ms. Hacker - Ed and Jan are both beautiful people. I know Ms. Hacker is #divisive but I personally am a big fan and would die to have her guidance in my daily life. She’s always interested in what’s going on in people’s lives and sure she’s definitely chaotic but it’s a loving chaos that’s only looking to help other people. I’ve not had the pleasure of having Mr. Frankenbush but he always is hanging out with his son Joey and they love coming to the Burroughs pool and playing water polo together; they spend a lot of time together since his wife works so much and they have such a buddy friendship. Both of these lovely people are super devoted and invested in the youth and would make great parents. 9/10
1. Mr. Clark - A god. We don’t deserve this man and I can’t sing his praises enough. Were were all lucky enough to be Greg’s children I don’t think evil would exist in the world. 11/10
27: Worst book I read for school
Hands down Tale of Two Cities since it’s the only one I’ve never finished. Dickens just doesn’t do it for me I guess plus I get really tired of the one dimensional characters and how much he romanticizes Lucy
28: Favorite little-known tidbit of history
When Richard Nixon went to Soviet Russia as Eisenhower’s VP during the cold war his secret service agents detected higher than usual amounts of radiation coming from Nixon’s hotel room, so they started talking loudly about it bc they knew the Soviets had planted buds and were listening. Within like an hour the radiation had vanished and they never heard anything about it again so man Soviet’s ain’t sly
29: 5 Places in Burbank That Are Definitely Haunted
1. Coral Cafe for obvious reasons, look up the ghost on youtube
2. The View seems like it would have some kind of el chupacabra-esque creature prowling around, maybe a mountain lion hybrid
3. Fry’s Electronics
4. The abandoned train station under the bridge
5. The LA river by the equestrian center
30: Rank of all the AP classes i took in order of entertainment value
9) AP Bio: I liked bio but the class wasn’t very entertaining. There’s not a lot of humor in bacteria and cells, and Mr. Van Loo is much more of a calming than a humorous and chaotic presence, so overall it takes the hit as the least entertaining class.
8) AP Stats: Math is similarly not very entertaining, but Mrs. Hollingshed’s erratic personality gives it the edge over Bio. Definitely more humorous than expected of a math class.
7) AP Econ: I bombed econ and business/money isn’t very entertaining but Jan Hacker made it so thanks to her chaos (love her though).
6) AP Euro: European history is incredibly iconic because, spoiler alert, Europeans are idiots and historically speaking everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. I just wish I remember it since I think idiot sophomore Lily slept through most of the class so needless to say I didn’t soak up much of the entertainment value. If it were up to me I’d take it over again and maybe stay awake this time.
5) AP Lit: Lit was just as much challenging and intimidating as it was entertaining, so it balances out. Mrs. Caluya is notably iconic and the books we read were all pretty interesting so it gets a high vote from me.
3) (tie) Gov/APUSH: History is always entertaining in my eyes since people do stupid things out of pettiness. These two tie for different reasons: Mr. Piper is a great teacher and that mock trial we did for the industrial age was great, but the subject was also extremely entertaining overall. I loved reading about how John Adams made making fun of him illegal. Gov was mostly just entertaining because of Mr. Hatch and how salty his is about the government. His sarcastic comments about how corrupt everything is gave life to an otherwise pretty lifeless subject.
2) AP Lang: aka the class with no curriculum, or the Kuglen Hour. I love Mr. Kuglen so much and he is responsible for 99% of the amusement in the class. I somehow learned how to be a better writer by listening to him complain about Trump and everything else under the sun for an hour every day so it was well worth it. Also who doesn’t like a class where you read Dave Sedaris for homework?
1) AP Psych: Without question, this is the epitome of entertainment. Psychology is just a mishmash of people trying to figure out why humans are as stupid as we are and why we do dumb things. Add in all the iconic psychologists and history and a class led by salty Mr. Hatch and you have a recipe for an entertaining year.
31: Top 5 Iconic JBHS teachers that I NEVER had (no particular order)
Mr. Peebles: A quirky man who I would have loved were I any good at math whatsoever
Mr. Arakelian: Band kids hate him but the stories I hear are so frickin iconic that I wish I could be an honorary band kid for a day and see the horror firsthand. If you have Arakelian stories please send them my way I’d love to hear about your pain
Mr. Frankenbush: A sad boi who everyone should get to experience and I regret never having.
Dr. Madooglu: He was so kind to me after the failed anti-trump lunchtime protest last year and he didn’t even know me. I wish I could’ve experienced him as a teacher.
Mr. Clark: The man, the myth, the legend
32: List of some iconic swim horror stories
Charlie breaking his hand after he lost a race and punched the gutter as hard as he could
Some idiot JV boys smearing poop all over the Burbank High locker room
The entire JV team getting Burroughs swim banned from Islands
Me almost passing out at the Los Amigos meet last year after I didn’t eat or sleep all day
Everyone always feigning illness or injury to get out of swimming the 4x100 relay
Getting in trouble for watching boys volleyball practice instead of doing the weight room sets
Every. Single. 5AM morning practice before school.
When coach martin finally figured out how periods work and suddenly we couldn’t use that as an excuse for not swimming anymore
33: What Office Character Would I Be
A mix between Angela, Oscar, and Kelly (we love our dramatic icons)
34: #1 Thing I’d Bring With Me to a Desert Island
Castaway for instructional purposes
35: What Would I call my memoir
Schadenfreude
36: 7 Best Buzzfeed Unsolved Episodes (no particular order)
This is one of my favorite shows so these are my recommendations:
1. 3 Horrifying Cases of Ghosts and Demons - one of the very first and best episodes; a 45-minute special where the Boys investigate the Winchester house in San Francisco, the Island of the Dolls in Mexico, and the Sallie House in Kansas
2. The Strange Disappearance of D. B. Cooper - A man going by the name of Dan Cooper hijacked a plane, demanded money and passage to Mexico, and then at some point jumped out of the plane and was never seen again. To this day no one knows his identity or his fate despite some of the ransom money turning up in a river somewhere.
3. The Haunted Halls of Waverly Hills Hospital - Ryan and Shane explore an abandoned asylum in Pennsylvania and some creepy stuff ensues. One of the best supernatural episodes
4. The Thrilling Gardner Museum Heist - An almost hilarious story (with reenactments!) about a seriously inept security guard and the loss of some of the world’s most beloved paintings. This was one of the first episodes after they started making money and the production quality is off the charts
5. The Scandalous Murder of William Desmond Taylor - Another excellent reenactment story about one of Hollywood’s first and biggest scandals, the suspicious murder of a leading film producer.
6. The Enigmatic Death of the Isdal Woman - A woman’s body was found suspiciously burned in the European wilderness and no one knows who she is or how exactly she was killed. Watch if you like espionage!
7. The Strange Killing of Ken Rex McElroy - An entire town seemingly rose up to murder a douchey, violent pedophile. One of the only episodes that’s actually happy?
37: 6 Things I would Have Changed About High School
1. Definitely would have joined yearbook as soon as I could
2. Wouldn’t have forced myself to swim for all 4 years; if the passion’s gone then you shouldn’t force it. It’s just a sign that you need to move on to better things
3. I would’ve taken more AP’s and maybe tried another stem ap class. I’ve always been self-conscious about how bad I am at math, but I’ve gotten a little better over the years and instead of being too afraid to challenge myself I would’ve liked to see how I could do and prove myself.
4. Worrying less about grades!! I killed myself over my grades for like three years and then I just kind of let myself go. I would have let myself have who knows how many more hours of sleep and taken the L on a couple of assignments; I’m still learning that my health is more important than perfection.
5. Meeting the right people! I wouldn’t have restricted myself to a few friends and would have branched out more by joinng stuff like JSA. It sucks meeting the right people your senior year and realizing that I was hanging out with the wrong people this whole time.
6. Spanish instead of French.
38: What Would I Name My Farm Animals if I had A Farm
I’d definitely name them all after female Shakespearian characters. My cows would be Hippolyta and Titania from Midsummer, my horse would be Desdemona from Othello, my chickens would be Gonereil, Regan, and Cordelia from King Lear and my goat would be named Gertrude from Hamlet
39: Most Useless Talent I Have
I have a really strong internal clock so when I don’t think about it too hard and guess intuitively I can usually predict how much time has passed/what time it is without looking at a clock. It’s really only useful for estimating how much time I wasted standing in the shower staring at the wall
40: Top Regret After Writing This:
Writing this instead of studying for my econ test in seven hours.
Thanks for reading!
