This or That Tag Game
Thank you for the tag @catchingbigfish! I’m going to tag @authorlaurawinter @sleepyowlwrites @coffeewritesfiction and @loopyhoopywrites
historical or futuristic
Historical! I’m never fond of futuristic unless it’s done in like a fantasy setting but it’s usually just scifi in disguise. (Don’t get me wrong, I love things like Stargate SG-1, but there’s something about scifi I just get bored with easily.)
opening or closing chapter
Opening chapters always get me amped up and excited. Closing chapters make me question my life choices. So definitely opening.
light & fluffy or dark & gritty
So I love reading light and fluffy, but I love writing dark stuff. I’m not sure about gritty, but definitely dark. I also write light and fluff sometimes. So that one probably wins.
animal companion or found family
Oh god I really don’t know. I have a character with both and it’s hard to make me choose because one without the other is hard!!!
horror or romance
Romance. I may be aro-ace, but I’m a sucker for a cute romance story.
hard or soft magic system
I actually had to look this up and I’m a bit on a sliding scale for this. I’ve probably got closer to a soft magic system going on, but I do appreciate a hard magic system and being able to know the rules and manipulate them to their futhest extent.
standalone or series
Oh series. I love having more of something I love.
one project or the juggling act
Like lays potato chips. Betcha can’t have just one!
one award winner or one bestseller
Best seller I think. I don’t really care about awards.
fantasy or sci-fi
FANTASYYYYYYYYY (Sorry Stargate SG-1 my love)
character or setting description
Hmmm.... I’ll go with character because I like introducing characters while I describe them and character introductions are one of my top fave things about writing.
first or final draft
I really love a first draft, getting your ideas down and making headway, but I gotta say, finally seeing it come together in a final draft? Excellent!!!
love triangle in everything or no romantic arcs
*sweats because I have both* Well... Not in everything. Just in one story there’s a love triangle, but it goes horribly wrong and there’s some polyamory involved. But if I had to chose, I’d say no romantic arcs because writing platonic relationships are just as important.
constant sandstorm or rainstorm
Gimme da rain

Serve one of these casseroles as your meatless main for dinner tonight. With only three steps or less, these vegetarian dishes are easy to make. Recipes like our Cheesy Sweet Potato & Black Bean Casserole and Broccoli & Quinoa Casserole are delicious and satisfying choices for dinner. A cozy, cheesy casserole is classic comfort food. We amped up the nutrition by including plenty of nourishing veggies. Black beans provide powerful plant-based protein while the sweet potatoes offer up a healthy dose of vitamin A, an antioxidant important for vision and immunity. This easy egg casserole is filled with spring green vegetables and rustic whole-grain bread. It's perfect for a healthy vegetarian dinner or a springtime brunch. You can assemble it the night before and bake it in the morning when you're ready. This broccoli-quinoa casserole makes a hearty vegetarian main dish. As the quinoa absorbs water and cooks, it creates the perfect amount of steam for cooking the broccoli. The broccoli is crisp-tender and adds texture to contrast with the creamy, cheesy quinoa. Swap in tricolor quinoa, if you prefer. Tomatoes and briny feta cheese form the base of the sauce that coats the pasta in this easy one-pan meal. Enjoy on its own as a vegetarian dinner or top with grilled chicken for some extra protein. This cauliflower casserole is inspired by nachos and stuffed with tender roasted cauliflower, sweet red pepper and brown rice. Salsa helps bind the ingredients together, along with melted cheese. Crushed tortilla chips on top add crunch. Serve with the suggested garnishes, or add your own favorite toppings to complete the dish. This one-pan recipe is the casserole version of spanakopita! It's hearty enough to enjoy as a vegetarian lunch or dinner, yet versatile enough to serve alongside just about any protein. To make it extra creamy, top each serving with a dollop of sour cream. Think of this vegetarian enchilada casserole as a veggie-packed Mexican-inspired lasagna with corn tortillas standing in for the noodles! If your peppers are mild and you like heat, opt for spicy pico de gallo. This easy vegetarian dinner recipe is sure to become a new family favorite. This is the macaroni and cheese recipe that would have been made in the kitchens at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Jefferson first became familiar the creamy, cheesy baked dish of macaroni from his time in Paris and it was enslaved cooks, James Hemings, Peter Hemings, Edith Hern Fossett and Frances Gillette Hern, who prepared this favorite dish over the years. The popularization of this iconic American dish can be traced to Black cooks, like Peter Fossett (the freed son of Edith Hern Fossett), Rufus Estes and Freda De Knight, who helped spread the dish throughout the United States. Learn more about Macaroni and Cheese at Monticello. This ooey-gooey dish has baked-pasta vibes but features protein-packed beans instead of noodles. Look for dried corona beans, a larger, creamy white bean, at natural-foods stores or online. Cannellini are a good substitute. Serve with a green salad and toasted baguette. This cheesy tortellini bake is a dish the whole family will love--it's filled with sweet-tasting marinara, mushrooms and spinach and topped with melted cheese. Complete the meal, plus get in another vegetable serving, by adding a side of broccoli or a small green salad. Cherry tomatoes and mushrooms bake along with goat cheese to form the base of the sauce that cooks the pasta right in the baking dish—no stovetop required. source

New Equipment, High Power Generator
Lockdown during Covid had many effects. Most of them not good. However sometimes adversity leads you down a new path. In our case a more profitable one. We had always provided what we called fun catering services. Doughnuts, candy floss etc. During lockdown we had a number of our corporate clients ask us to provide catering services more along the lines of a main meal. This led us into providing a range of services such as gourmet burgers, Chinese noodles, jacket potatoes etc. This was a good move as it turned out. However it did rapidly create a major problem for us. Namely that of power requirements. For doughnuts etc, the client would provide a single 13 amp socket which was more than adequate. however when we moved up to mains catering, we would have for instance a couple of chip fryers, a couple of hot plates for the burgers, a chip warmer and perhaps a water boiler. All told we could quite easily need not far off 40 amps. So the conversation would go like this. "We need at least four seperate 13 amp supplies" Client, "Yep no problem" Only on the day what would happen is would set up, ask for our power supplies and be handed a 6 way adaptor with the comment that 4 were for us, and the other two for the DJ and pizza van. So they were intending to run around 60 amps from a single 13 amp supply. Predictably we would either melt the socket, or more usually blow the fuse or circuit breaker. 10 K.V.A. Generator 10kva-Generator We already had some 10 K.V.A. portable generators, which combined with some new LPG powered equipment we obtained, allowed us to carry out most events. Unfortunately many venues don't allow the use of LPG due to the purported safety risks. So eventually we decided that we would need more electrical power. 66 K.V.A. Higher Power We investigated what was on the market, and took an in depth look at what are requirements were, and come to the conclusion that around 30 k.v.a. would be fine. So obviously we went out and bought one with a bit over twice the power at 66. Why you may ask? Easy, 30 would do us for the time being, but any expansion or multiple items at the same time and suddenly we would be back to struggling with power again. Additionally the larger unit was only some £800 more than the smaller version. Was physically the same size, and used the same engine, so running costs should be on par. In short the only difference was the actual electrical alternator which converts the engine motion into actual electricity. Multiple Sockets 66kva Generator Spill Kits We had a selection of single and three phase sockets added for ease of use, had our new branding applied to the unit, and added one of our new spill kits to provide insurance in the case of any fluid spills. We also had a custom built trailer unit made from our friends at Fairtech Fabrications, this allowed us to transport the unit behind any of our range of vans. Fred Baur
Thursday’s Column: Learning From Lehman Braden Wilson It was 2008, just 20 days shy of his 90th birthday, when Fred Baur died. On the way to the funeral home, his kids decided to stop at a nearby Walgreens to pick up some salty snacks. They debated for a bit, should it be sour cream and onion, cheddar cheese maybe? Larry and his siblings finally decided on Original.  You see, Fred adored his…

Goodnight - Damian
Summary: Damian pays you a visit at night ft. the one bed trope.
It was a typical eerie night in Gotham and as usual, you spent it alone in your room. You were completely engrossed in the murder documentary streaming on your laptop, the game of Tetris on your cell phone, and the barbeque potato chips you were shoving into your mouth. You were so unaware of your surroundings that you jumped right out of your seat and yelped when you felt a hand on your shoulder.
“Relax, Y/N,” said Damian, casually. “It is only me.” He was dressed in his Robin uniform. It was clean which meant that he was probably unharmed.
You scowled at him as your felt your heart beat wildly against your ribcage. Your eyes traveled to the open window. You were certain that you had secured the latch, added the anti-lift bar and activated the alarm not twenty minutes ago. Your newfound interest in murder mysteries kept you awake a night, so you amped up your security to give yourself some peace of mind. It should have been impossible for anyone to break in, but here Damian was, standing inside your apartment bedroom.
“Stop abusing your power like that,” you scolded.
“Stop leaving yourself vulnerable,” he countered, without missing a beat.
“I didn’t! Did you not see the steel bar and alarm?” you said with indignation. You had to wonder how he managed to slip in. In another life, he could be a magician, you thought.
“Indeed, I did notice,” he said. “It is quite the cute little system you have.” His smirk was as condescending as ever.
You rolled your eyes and huffed. You didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of getting a big reaction out of you.
Damian’s expression softened. “I am glad that you installed that, though. Now I do not have to worry so much about you when I am away.”
You had no idea how to formulate a response to a comment that was not an insult or sarcasm. You awkwardly changed the subject instead, “So… you need something or…?”
Damian looked at you expectantly as if he was waiting for you to continue. “Do not end your sentence with a conjunction,” he chastised you. “Proper grammar is imperative for effective communication.” You rolled your eyes again. Sometimes he was insufferable.
“I just wanted to make sure you were okay,” he said. And sometimes he was almost sweet.
His gloved finger gently tipped your face upwards so he could inspect it thoroughly. You found his concern rather considerate until he opened his mouth again. Damian’s face contorted into an expression of disgust before he said, “You are beginning to look like Drake.” Although Tim was very attractive, you knew how Damian felt about his adoptive brother. His statement was not to be mistaken as a compliment.
You pulled away and rolled your eyes again. “Got it. You came here to annoy me. Mission accomplished. You ready to leave now?” You pointed to the window.
“I am being serious, Y/N, you look unwell…” He looked around your desk space with a horrified expression. “And I can see why. When was the last time you slept?”
“Uh,” you blew a raspberry as you thought about it. “Yester…today?” you said, but it came out as a question. Damian looked unimpressed. “No, today. Definitely today,” you stated with more confidence.
You could tell Damian didn’t buy it. “What day is it today?” he challenged.
Your eyes roamed around the room in search of clues. The date and time weren’t visible on your electronics. You took a stab in the dark. “Saturday.”
Damian crossed his arms over his chest. “It is Sunday night.”
“Oh…” you pursed your lips sheepishly. Sometimes the days blurred together.
“That is it,” he said with finality. He closed your laptop. “You are banned from watching murder mysteries videos at night.” He went for your phone next. He raised it up for you to see your game of Tetris disappearing as he powered it off. “I am confiscating your phone every evening from now on.”
“What?” you whined, lunging out for your phone. Damian tucked it away and out of reach in the inner pocket of his uniform.
“You are getting time limits. Blue light disrupts your circadian rhythm - no laptop or phone after 10 pm.” He grabbed the crinkly chip bag. “And these, well, you really should not eat these ever. Do you know how much sodium is in this bag? Your arteries will know.” He tossed the half-empty bag into the trash can beside your desk.
“No!” You protested. He had no right to order you around.
“Yes,” he asserted. You watched him fluff up your pillows, tuck the sheets firmly under the mattress, and smooth out the bed spread. “You are going to bed now. Get in.” He lifted the covers for you.
“Yeah, no thanks,” you chuckled humourlessly. You just wanted to finish watching the unsolved mystery of the Gruesome Gotham Murders of 1902 and be so terrified that you can’t sleep for the next three days.
“Y/N,” he said sternly, indicating that he wasn’t in the mood for an argument.
“Fine,” you grumbled. You knew Damian was stubborn and wouldn’t take no for an answer. You figured that you would get in bed to appease him and get rid of him, then you could resume watching your video.
You stomped extra loudly across your room to make a point. You huffed loudly as you crawled into bed. He pulled the covers up to your chin and tucked you in as if you were a little kid.
“Good night,” said Damian.
“Yeah, bye,” you replied impatiently.
Your eyes following Damian as he flicked off your lamp. Once your eyes adjusted to the darkness, you realized that Damian was taking off his Robin uniform. He stripped down to his undershirt and hung the tunic over the back of your chair before sitting down. “What are you doing?” you asked, raising yourself up on your forearms.
“I am going to stay,” he said, like it was the most normal sentence in the entire world.
“Um, come again?”
“I know you are afraid to go to sleep, so I will stay and make sure you feel safe… even though it is self inflicted fear and I ought to leave you so you learn your lesson. I do not know why you insist on watching murder mysteries knowing that you are going to be frightened.”
“While that’s a very nice offer, it’s also super unnecessary. I’m okay,” you lied. You couldn’t let him stay overnight in your chair just because you had an overactive imagination.
Damian raised a hand to silence your argument. “It is not up for debate. I will stay right here and you will get some sleep.”
“But you need to sleep, too,” you reasoned.
Damian shrugged. “I will make do here.”
Your throat was suddenly dry as you prepared to make a compromise. “You could… sleep… here… in my bed?” You prayed that he wasn’t repulsed by your invitation to share your bed. You and Damian were just friends but somewhere along the way your feelings changed. You caught yourself noticing things about him that you found attractive… like the way his eyes were so expressive and always told you what he was thinking… or how he carried himself with strength and confidence, even if it could be annoying sometimes.
You held your breath in anticipation. The last thing you wanted was to scare him off. “Okay,” he casually accepted. While you were relieved that he wasn’t mortified by the thought of sharing your bed, you were a nervous wreck now.
You shuffled over to the very edge of your twin sized bed to make room for Damian. As he lay down, the side of his warm arm brushed against yours. You skittishly scooted away but tumbled out of bed.
Damian peered over the edge of the bed and his brows knit together in confusion. “What on earth are you doing?” he asked.
“Nothing,” you said, too quickly to sound normal. You tittered nervously as you climbed back under the covers. This time you lay on your side and faced away from him to put some distance between you two and to hide your embarrassment.
“Come closer, Y/N. I do not want you to fall off again.”
You shifted infinitesimally closer.
“Closer,” instructed Damian.
You inched towards him but left a good distance separating you two.
“There’s plenty of space here,” he encouraged.
You quickly came up with an excuse. “I toss and turn in my sleep. I don’t want to hurt you by accident.”
Damian let out a hearty laugh.
“What?” you asked with indignance. You rolled over onto your back so you could see him.
“Nothing,” he denied, stifling his mirth.
“Tell me,” you demanded.
“The thought of you, in your footie pajamas, thinking that you could injure a highly skilled assassin, is quite comical. Don’t flatter yourself. Now, come here and go to sleep.” Damian patted the empty space beside him.
This time you listened and moved towards the centre of the bed. You were so close to Damian that you could feel the heat radiating off his skin. The warmth was drawing you even closer to him but you reprimanded yourself and forced yourself to remain eerily still to avoid another accidental contact. Damian turned his head and you felt his eyes on you. “Are you all right?” he asked.
“Y-yeah,” you squeaked. You bit you lip anxiously. Your hand played with a loose thread on the blanket.
“Are you certain?”
“Yes,” you said, this time more confidently although you weren’t fooling him.
“You need not be afraid of the dark, Y/N, especially when I am here.”
You knew that already. You always felt safe when you were with Damian, even before you knew he was Robin. There was something comforting about his self-assurance that made situations less scary. But that’s not what was making you jittery.
“Why do you bother watching murder mysteries? They always overlook clues and never investigate thoroughly. Besides, you have a real detective right here,” Damian said, with a tone of umbrage.
You shrugged and tilted your head. “They’re fun,” was your simple answer.
Damian cocked an eyebrow. “Being so petrified that you cannot sleep alone is fun?”
“I don’t know. I guess I admire you for being Robin.” You don’t know why you said that. You really shouldn’t be feeding his ego. It’s big enough as it is. You kept talking, against your better judgement. “Watching you solve mysteries and fight for justice got me interested in true crime.”
Damian only hummed in response. He was quiet for a while and you thought that maybe he had drifted to off to sleep. Finally, he said, “Would you like to know who committed the Gruesome Gotham Murders of 1902?”
You gasped and turned on your side to face him. You were only a few inches away from him now, but you didn’t even register his proximity. Your anxiety was long forgotten and replaced by curiosity. “You know who did it?”
“Of course,” he confirmed.
“How?” you breathed with skepticism. The case had been undertaken by several of the most high-profile detectives and private investigators over the decades and none were able to solve it. In fact, no new leads had been uncovered in the last eighty years.
Damian rolled his eyes. “Batman and Robin are, without a doubt, the best detective duo in history. Not to mention, that case was child’s play.”
You scoffed. “I don’t believe you. Show me some proof,” you said, calling his bluff.
“Very well, then. I will show you the file the next time you visit the manor.”
“If you’ve solved it, why don’t you tell the authorities then?”
“We have. It is connected to several active cases so the GCPD is not able to release any information to the public yet.”
You scrutinized his face, looking for any signs of a fib. He didn’t waver under your intense stare, but then again, he was accustomed to the batglare so your measly glare was probably ineffective. You decided to trust him. “Who did it?”
Damian turned on his side as well and propped up his head with his arm so that he could look down at you. He pretended to think about it, building up the suspense. “If you go to sleep now, I’ll tell you tomorrow morning,” he said, almost playfully.
“What?” you exclaimed.
“Better get to sleep right away,” he warned.
You couldn’t believe he would tease you like this. There was no way you’d be able to sleep knowing that the answer to the city’s most enigmatic mystery was lying right beside you. You huffed angrily and flopped back down onto your mattress.
Damian let out a deep laugh in response. You grabbed a spare pillow and tried to whack him, but he anticipated your attack and caught it. “Damian Wayne, you are the absolute worst.”
“Goodnight, Y/N.”

Tonight’s cooking endeavors for the week ahead:
-pumpkin oat chocolate chip breakfast cookies, based off of the RFES sweet potato breakfast cookies but I subbed pumpkin for sp and added pumpkin spice and choc chips for raisins because duh. I was having smoothies for breakfast before my early classes last week but would be starving an hour later so I’m hoping this can amp my game up
-tuna noodle casserole which I’ve never had before! I was craving a creamy baked pasta dish and I love this one because it uses cashews so there’s actually no dairy (except the butter I sauteed the veg with but you could easily sub that out) I topped it with the leftovers of my vegan ricotta from my pizza making! recipe from hummusapien as per usual
I get so much satisfaction of trying new recipes out. Anyone else? 🙋🏼‍♀️

Hi!! This is cute little drabble for @figurative-siren-song ‘s RarePair Thing!! I hope you all enjoy it!! 🤗💝
Rare Pairing: Remy x Roman
Characters (order of appearance): Roman, Logan, Patton, Virgil, Remy
Warnings: Uh, food, and time anxiety.
————
Roman twirled through the doorway, amping up the extra to his usual greeting back from classes.
“Hello, gorgeous family!” He cheered, rushing over to give his Papa a hug around the back.
“Roman, you seem very lively this evening,” Logan said, pausing his cooking to glance back at his son. “What’s the occasion?” Roman slipped to his Dad next, waiting to peck him on the cheek before answering.
“A grand one!” He slid next to his little brother, and ruffle his hair, causing the emo teen to sway his hand away.
“Ro, what the hell?” He sat up straight as Roman puffed his chest out.
“I,” he began. “Have a date tonight!!”
“What?” Patton shouted, dropping his hot chocolate mug onto the living room table. “Roman, that’s fantastic!! Oh my gosh, tell us everything!” He yanked his son onto the couch and sat next him, staring intently. “Logan!! Come on!”
“You all do realize that I’m in the midst of cooking, right??” Virgil chuckled and went to assist his father, allowing Roman to belt out his achievements with more reason.
“Ok, so we were leaving class together, and right when we were about to say goodbye, he grabs me, by the hand, and asks to go for dinner!” Patton lunges forward, encasing his eldest in a hug.
“Oh, I’m so happy for you, kiddo!” Meanwhile, Virgil and Logan were having their own conversation back in the kitchen. As Virgil arranged a couple dishes on the counter for the finished products, Logan continued his cooking.
“Honestly,” Virgil said. “Roman has been crushing on this guy for months. He had that whole, ‘love at first sight’ complex.”
“Why am I not surprised. He’s only brought this boy up a hundred dozen times a week.”
“Try per day,” Virgil scoffed.
“And yet, I’ve never seen this kid in my life.” Virgil shook his head.
“I know. But Remy is the kind of guy to just vanish. He’d be at the dinner table one moment and on a plane to Uganda the next.” Logan narrowed his eyebrows, unsure of how to process that. “But,” Virge continued. “I think this Remy guy is gonna be good for him.”
“You’ve met him?”
“Yeah, a few times. Sometimes he’s with Roman when he picks me up on Wednesday’s.” Logan nodded.
“And guess what!” Romans boisterous voice chimes in. “The two in the kitchen turned their attentions over to see Roman positively beaming, bouncing on his feet. “He got me a gift!” He reached into the collar of his shirt and pulled out a golden chain, the signature Hamilton star on the bottom.
“Oh, Roman, that’s beautiful!” Patton praised. He looked up at his son from the necklace. “So, when is the date?”
“At 7:00!”
“So what you’re saying is,” Logan pitches on from the kitchen. “You’re going to skip the meal that I’m working hard to make to go to a fancy diner with some near stranger — someone of which your dad and I have yet to even meet. Am I correct?”
“Ugh, Pops, come on, you know that I—“ Roman began, hoping to defend himself and make his father feel better.
“I know, Roman, I know, I’m just teasing.” Roman visibly relaxed just as Logan turned to smiled at his younger child. “That just means that your brother will have to have twice as much.”
“Ooh, you see, I would love to,” Virge started, awkwardly playing with his hands. “But...” He splayed his hands out as if to answer in silence. Logan merely chuckled, loving to be able to tease his children. He then turned to his eldest, wearing a straight face.
“Hang on a moment — Roman?” He said, slapping a spatula around. Roman hummed and looked up from admiring his necklace. “What on Earth are you doing? Your date is at seven, it’s six o’clock, come on, get your shit together, you’re going to be late!” Roman instantly jumped into action, bounding up the stairs, calling a “thank you” to his father.
By the time their meal had been set out and the three began to dig in, Roman finally emerged from the stairs. He came out wearing a red, floral print suit jacket and dark jeans, a white shirt beneath and a scarf around his neck.
“Oh, you look great, Roman!” Patton cheered, smiling even as his son rushed around to gather his things. Logan paused his eating to assist.
“Wallet?” Roman looked up before he confirmed that he was carrying his wallet. “Phone?” Another confirmation. “A gift if you have one? Earbuds? Stressball?” Roman has nodded along to all of them, freezing momentarily at the last one.
“Uh, well, I wasn’t going to bring that.” The two fathers peaked interest, while the younger son merely adapted to absorb the next information.
“How come?”
“Well, I mean, I don’t want him to think I’m nervous, let alone stressed to the point of needing fidget toys..”
“Well,” Patton spoke up. “I think it’s a good idea to bring it, just in case. But, I suppose the final decision comes down to you.” Roman gave a light smile and his dad returned it.
“Alright, then come sit with us until your boyfriend arrives.” Roman was quick to grow a light blush.
“Papa, he’s not my boyfriend—“
“Yet.” Virgil pitched in with a smirk. Roman couldn’t glare knowing that it was probably true. However, he took a seat next to his brother anyway and waited, staring at the door and bouncing his leg.
“Here,” Logan pushed a dish of potatoes toward Roman slightly. “Have a bite before you go.”
“And spoil my appetite, are you mad?” He shrieked, pausing all nervous movements to gawk at his father.
“Or what, eat like a pig?” Virgil chipped in, talking with his mouth full. Roman startled again.
“I do not eat like a pig!” The four continued to chat until 7 o’clock rang, and by that point Roman was pacing and constantly checking his appearance in his phone camera. It was by 7:08 that he began to settle, but also begin to sulk.
“He isn’t blowing you off is he?” Virgil accused, pointing his fork despite being finished his meal. “Because if he does, I will rip him a new one, I swear.” Roman fell back into his chair and sighed.
“He’s never been that kind of person.” He muttered. “He’s always so generous and selfless.”
“He is?—“
“It just doesn’t make sense that he would ditch me..”
“Oh, baby,” Patton comforter, rubbing his sons back. “Perhaps he got caught up in traffic, or went the wrong way. I’m sure he’ll be here, darling.” They sat a bit longer, Roman taking a leftover piece of broccoli and tossing it in his mouth with ease.
“Ew. Dude.” Virgil grumbled, scrunching his eyebrows. Roman merely muttered back. A few seconds after he finished chewing, there was series of honks just outside. Roman flew from his chair and dove for the peephole. There was a red car and the one and only Remy Diablo standing in the window roof, using his foot (presumably) to honk the horn.
“It’s him! He’s here!” Roman immediately patted himself down and fluffed up his hair before tearing out of the house to go meet his date.
“So sorry I’m late, babes, just had to make a pitstop.” Remy said, then ducked back into the vehicle. Roman climbed into the passenger seat and looked at Rem.
“A pitstop? Where?” Remy raised his eyebrows up.
“Um. To buy you this? Obviously?” Remy reached one hand over, staring at the road as he drove. In his hand was a small bouquet of flowers, roses and lavenders and others mushed into a single present.
“Oh, they’re gorgeous!” Roman carefully snagged the flowers out of Remys hand and inspected them, giving them all satisfying sniffs. “These are perfect, Remy, honestly!”
“Also,” Remy began, not taking the time to indulge Romans praise. “I figured we go to the Ritz, you know? Romantic place, good service, drinks?” Roman laughed, fondly.
“Sounds great. Thank you, dearest.”

Welcome Back Everyone!
If you would like to submit art work for this week’s episode please do so before Friday when I will post the recap and update the Master List. Click Here
As I was not the biggest fan of last week’s episode, so this week, we are going to do something a little different. I'm going to skip the recap, not even doing a briefcap. mention, briefly the new fusion . . .Alexandrite. . . alright done, then move on to the list of lists!
Consolidated lingering Questions
The Gems:
Where do they come from? I now know they are not from Earth, they are from somewhere in space, further away than our ocean can get in a 30 foot (10ish meters) diameter cylinder from the ocean floor.
How is power derived from them?
Why is a pearl considered a gem? apparently, as I have now been informed, a pearl is considered a gem in the realm of decoration or jewelry, as is amber and shell. Much like a tomato is considered a vegetable in cooking apparently and fruit in horticulture. So in the "magic rock alien race" a pearl is obviously a gem
What about the gemmed enemies? the monsters used to be humanoid, how does that work, why??
How do they get gems? Or are they created out of gems? created Assumption: each has unique powers, i.e., Amethyst can’t project a plan from her gem ~~I'm not sure they don't each have the same powers and their limitations in magic don't instead spring from their maturity and personality.~~
If the above assumption is correct, what exactly is Garnet’s superpower? third eye, strength, lightning
What are Steven’s powers? healing, shield bubble
Pearl's Powers? project illusions and store stuff in her gem and create illusions
Amethyst's Powers? nothing yet? can that be right? She's quick and efficient at shapeshifting I guess.
During Ocean Gem it is mentioned by Lapis Lazuli that the only thing the Crystal Gems care about is Earth, but Pearl showed her complete disdain for humans on multiple occasions particularly Keep Beach City Weird where she said humans were insignificant. . . . so what about Earth do they care about so much?
What’s the deal with Amethyst’s strange relationship with gravity? seriously, did this just go away?
Who all can fuse? Pearl and Amethyst = Opal and Amethyst and Garnet = Sugilite and Garnet and Amethyst and Pearl = Alexandrite
How old are each of them? It’s suggested that they’re centuries old. Amethyst acts a bit like a teenager. Is she that much younger than Pearl? Where does Garnet fall? Why is Steven the only boy?
How many boy gems are there everywhere?
The World:
The Lunar Sea Spire was known as the Oasis for Gems on Earth, so I know it’s Earth, but… Is it in the same Earth that we are in, but hidden from us, or some sort of alternate universe
Everything seems to be happening in Beach City. Are there other Gems in other towns? Like every town has a team of Crystal Gems protecting it? Or is this town some center for universal negativity, so the Gems are focused here?
Where did Lion take Steven and Connie for training? Is that place, or a similar one, available to all gems? Do you need a familiar to take you there? How does Lion know the way?
Warp Pads. . . . Galaxy Warp. How did the Galaxy warp get here? Why is it here? Why is it broken?
The House on the Beach:
This is more a curiosity, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the fight that took off that statue’s hands. I bet it involved Sugilite.
What is up with the living temple inside the house? Beating hearts, waterfalls, a pool for getting rid of evil spirits, a holodeck run by the imagination, dimensional shenanigans. Need much more history and understanding here.
Townies:
What’s up with Onion and his dad? Are they from some other planet?
Why would you make a place called Fish Stew Pizza?
What would make one believe a potato can provide protection from a multi-dimensional being. .. . also, are the Gems multi-dimensional? I don't see that.
Rose Quartz:
Why does Rose have to die to give Steven his superpowers?
~~Is Rose even dead? _pretty sure this is answered (-doubts-)~~
What would make her choose that? a prophesy? desire to give Greg a kid? gonna die anyway?
Did she give up her gem to HAVE a kid or to EMBUE a kid with the gem?
Lion:
What all does Lion know? How did he get his powers?

Dislikes
Not a fan of the important role junk food plays in the show not as prevalent as it was before
I don’t relate to Steven much. He mostly annoys me.

Season 1: Episode 18 Beach Party
Season 1: Episode 27 House Guest
Season 1: Episode 32 Fusion Cuisine
Likes
I like that all the answers to everything are not conveniently packaged in a single episode
I like Garnet…
and sometimes Amethyst…
and I often relate to Pearl
I like Greg and his super awesome van
I like that it seemed like we landed in the middle of a life, rather than the beginning of a story… this continues to be true through every episode.
I like most of the townspeople and their relationships with Steven
I appreciate that though there are some references a kid wouldn’t understand completely, there is so far no blatantly adult humor or sexuality even in undertones - still true after 27 episodes…mostly still true. . . Sadie is a bit too um grown up
I like Connie a lot. She is funny and smart and a perfect non-super for the story.
I like arcade games…
I like that there are so many details in the background like everywhere…
and it’s obvious the creators are nerds
I like Sour Cream
I like the representation of emotions related to motherhood that each of the Gems go through in their own ways.
I like that the makers of the show know what customer service is like. Either that or they have really disturbing imaginations.
I like that the show encourages people to think critically and discuss large questions.
I like that there is a whole dark seedy side that I’m only just peeking into.
I just want to remind everyone, I write these recaps after having only seen the episode once, a week ago, and often interrupted by my whole blogging thing. I mainly do it for myself to refresh my memory for the next episode, but since I post it, I thought I should ask your forgiveness if it isn’t exactly perfect (or even close). Don’t forget if you have a submission for artwork for today’s episode, submit before Friday using the link above, and I’ll pick one to use as the cover art.

Heyo. So, my partner is gonna be off in London for 4 months starting in the fall semester, and they are frankly... a bit challenged at cooking for themselves. Currently they subsist off of poptarts and sandwiches from the place they work. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of easy meals could we learn over the summer that uses ingredients cheaply and easily found in London/close areas? How expensive are veggies there? Do you have ramen? We have no idea what to rely on as poor collegers.
Hey! I hope your partner enjoys their study here! People meme but London can be REALLY pretty
Veggies are actually pretty cheap IF you buy them loose. Don’t go for the plastic wrapped stuff or bags, bring your own bag and pick from the loose boxes, you can wash them at home and it’s always WAY cheaper.
Potatoes are dirt cheap here, and potatoes are going to be your friend.
Get a baking tray/sheet, and lay on it diced potatoes, nice and small like M&Ms. Drizzle with olive oil, a little salt and pepper, and some minced garlic, then whack that in a 180-degree oven for 35-45 minutes. Delicious, yummy roasted mini potatoes that are great hot and cold, good for leftovers
There’s a youtube channel called YouSuckAtCooking. He shows how to make basic, delicious food in up to 5 different ways, all on a budget and all quickly. I recommend his ramen video (yes we have packet ramen here, but it’s about twice the American price). In the video, he shows not only how to make ramen way tastier, but how to amp up the nutritional aspect.
Curry is really popular here- if you like jarred curry you can get it dirt cheap. Black beans are a bit time consuming but VERY tasty and healthy and last AGES, I personally like Cuban black beans with rice
Chicken is fairly cheap! Get a chicken breast, rub on salt and pepper, wrap in tin foil and roast at 180 degrees for 25-35 mins or until the middle is white. It’s delicious and a good protein boost
Be VERY WARY of restaurants in London, the prices in some places can be so high. Waitrose and Sainsburys are very expensive supermarkets, Tesco and Morrisons are too but are a little more reasonable. The absolute BEST SAVES are Lidl and Aldi- they’re really really cheap and great for bulk buying, all students shop there. Be careful with the meat though because it can be... sketchy quality. I’ve only had one bad experience but it was a BAD experience
And if all else fails, grab some fish and chips and chomp on any healthy plant you like, veggie or fruit. Fish and chips is not healthy but that will keep you full for absolute ages
