Barry: Oh hey, sorry I've been gone for a while. There was an intergalactic war.
Hal: ???
Hal: Barry, I saw you like an hour ago.
Barry: Yeah, well, I experience time differently. I can't wait to catch you up on what happened!!
Hal: Why, what happened? Did you get a haircut?
Barry: Meet my kids! Dawn and Don Allen. They're 14 and I love them.
Hal:
Hal: Well... I'd throw you a baby shower but I'm afraid that by the time I finish setting it up, they'll have kids
Barry: Oh. Well, actually-

You Have My Attention: Anne of Green Gables First Lines
Tumblr media
The icon of Canadian girlhood needs no introduction, as Anne of Green Gables is a global phenomenon at this point. What those of you who read the first book at like age ten and then didn't bother exploring further might not know, however, is that LM Montgomery wrote a whole Anne series. So how did she catch a reader's attention? Let's find out!
"Mrs. Rachel Lynde lived just where the Avonlea main road dipped down into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies’ eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods of the old Cuthbert place; it was reputed to be an intricate, headlong brook in its earlier course through those woods, with dark secrets of pool and cascade; but by the time it reached Lynde’s Hollow it was a quiet, well-conducted little stream, for not even a brook could run past Mrs. Rachel Lynde’s door without due regard for decency and decorum; it probably was conscious that Mrs. Rachel was sitting at her window, keeping a sharp eye on everything that passed, from brooks and children up, and that if she noticed anything odd or out of place she would never rest until she had ferreted out the whys and wherefores thereof."
-- Anne of Green Gables
"A tall, slim girl, 'half-past sixteen,' with serious gray eyes and hair which her friends called auburn, had sat down on the broad red sandstone doorstep of a Prince Edward Island farmhouse one ripe afternoon in August, firmly resolved to construe so many lines of Virgil."
-- Anne of Avonlea
"'Harvest is ended and summer is gone,' quoted Anne Shirley, gazing across the shorn fields dreamily."
-- Anne of the Island
"(Letter from Anne Shirley, B.A., Principal of Summerside High School, to Gilbert Blythe, medical student at Redmond College, Kingsport.)
Windy Poplars,
Spook's Lane,
S'side, P. E. I.,
Monday, September 12th.
DEAREST:
Isn't that an address!"
-- Anne of the Windy Poplars
"'Thanks be, I’m done with geometry, learning or teaching it,' said Anne Shirley, a trifle vindictively, as she thumped a somewhat battered volume of Euclid into a big chest of books, banged the lid in triumph, and sat down upon it, looking at Diana Wright across the Green Gables garret, with gray eyes that were like a morning sky."
-- Anne's House of Dreams
"'How white the moonlight is tonight!' said Anne Blythe to herself, as she went up the walk of the Wright garden to Diana Wright's front door, where little cherry-blossom petals were coming down on the salty, breeze-stirred air."
-- Anne of Ingleside
"It was a clear, apple-green evening in May, and Four Winds Harbour was mirroring back the clouds of the golden west between its softly dark shores. The sea moaned eerily on the sand-bar, sorrowful even in spring, but a sly, jovial wind came piping down the red harbour road along which Miss Cornelia’s comfortable, matronly figure was making its way towards the village of Glen St. Mary."
-- Rainbow Valley
"It was a warm, golden-cloudy, lovable afternoon. In the big living-room at Ingleside Susan Baker sat down with a certain grim satisfaction hovering about her like an aura; it was four o'clock and Susan, who had been working incessantly since six that morning, felt that she had fairly earned an hour of repose and gossip."
-- Rilla of Ingleside

~ Flash (2016)
I'm living for Bruce and Barry's friendship being grounded in their interest of forensics, both neatly organizing their files and evidences, and studying crime scenes meticulously. You make Flash and Batman stand next to each other, you wouldn't think they share much, but actually, they both are animated by the murders of their mothers in front of them, cases they had to investigate themselves from a young age. They discuss and solve cold cases during break at the Watchtower, so happy to see each other so they can rant about that case they worked on to someone that understand wtf they are talking about.

This one's going to be interesting, I can tell. Don't be mad, you haven't even seen poll 2 yet.
When the other polls will be out, they'll be in my 'fantasy polls' tag.

A Well-Chapeaued Feathursday
Birds in Hats!
Our graduate intern Olivia is currently preparing a major exhibition on the work  of wood engraver, illustrator, designer, letterpress printer, and fine press publisher Barry Moser. He is well known, at least in fine press and book enthusiast circles, for his distinctive engravings and exquisitely-designed limited editions from his Pennyroyal Press. The rest of the world, however, mainly knows him for his illustrations for children’s books, which are usually executed in watercolors. We hold many of Moser’s fine press publications, but only a few examples of his children’s books. The Curriculum Collection in our general library, however, holds quite a number of his children’s books, and we are borrowing a few to include in the exhibition.
We are especially tickled by Moser’s humorous paintings of anthropomorphized birds in hats for Virginia Hamilton’s collection of African American folktales, When Birds Could Talk & Bats Could Sing, published in 1996 by The Blue Sky Press, an imprint of Scholastic, Inc. The illustrations are a perfect accompaniment to this set of lively and entertaining jewels of American folklore.
Since the book was mostly designed by Moser, it bears an extensive colophon, usually reserved for fine press publications. This is why we know that the paintings were executed in transparent watercolor on handmade Barcham Green paper, the types are Sumner Stone’s Stone Serif Medium (1987) and Gudrun Zapf von Hesse’s Diotima Italic (1953), the color separations were made by Bright Lights, Ltd in Singapore, and the edition was printed and bound by Tien Wah Press in Singapore. Probably more information than any child would need to know, but we sure appreciate it.

(via Theme from “The Young and the Restless" (“Lost") — Long Version)
"Nadia's Theme", originally titled "Cotton's Dream", is a piece of music composed by Barry De Vorzon and Perry Botkin Jr. in 1971. It was originally used as incidental music for the 1971 film Bless the Beasts and Children, and is better known as the theme music to the television soap opera The Young and the Restless since the series premiered in 1973. "Cotton's Dream" was renamed "Nadia's Theme" after it became associated with Olympic gymnast Nadia Comăneci during and after the 1976 Summer Olympics.

The Pandom Awards
Hi, I'm Charley (any pronouns), @thecringefailintherye to some of you and @autisticslightlyposting to most of you!
A while back, in our discord server, I held a google form where our members could nominate certain characters from Peter Pan fanfics, aus, and retellings for certain Award categories. Then, we voted on the nominees, and the top two from each category in that round, and here we are, round 3 in tumblr polls.
If you didn't vote in the server and aren't a server member and want to be dm me and I'll give you the name of our mod. If not, and you're confused on who these characters are, dm or send me an ask and I'll explain (we use fanon nicknames)
Polls will be released Mondays and Tuesdays, and results on Sundays and Mondays (alongside the first poll of the week).
If you're having a problem with a vote, please DM me and I'll try and fix the issue.
Feel free to submit propaganda for your faves via asks after a round has begun.
Good luck to all Peters, Wendies, Hook, Pirates, OCs, Fairies, Lost Boys and all others in the running and their owners.
So begins the first Pandom Awards, lets go!

Legion of Super-Heroes (1989) Annual #6
This is Jenni's backstory as told from her perspective of the order of events with the omission that Don and Dawn's murder was orchestrated by President Thaddeus Thawne who was Earthgov at the time. It is likely she didn't know it at the time, or at the time of publication it had not been established yet.
There is a couple interesting parts of this however.
1.) Jenni seems to imply that she remembers Iris and Bart - now the wording here could just mean it's been forever since she knew she was near both, but she is 2 years older than Bart. It's not impossible that she wouldn't remember him and he would have just been a baby when she was interacting with him.
2.) Jeven at some point found out that Iris evacuated Bart to the past. The order of events place that very shortly after Don and Dawn were murdered (when Bart was an infant) he and Jenni evacuated to Aarok (above). Iris remained on Earth, where two years later she found Bart and fled to the past with him. It's not unreasonable to believe he got word what happened either from Iris sending him a message what her plan was, or Iris's parents forwarding him the information, or him just finding out through Speedster time shenanigans. At this point though Jenni doesn't know about this, she only knows that they are 'safe'.
3.) Because Jenni evacuated to Aarok when she did it makes her appearances in Impulse not compliant and thus should not have been possible, but we'll forgive it because it she was cute.
