Warnings: angst, post wci, wci spoilers(obvs) angst with a happy ending.

You’re angry at Sanji after what happened, so angry, and maybe that makes you selfish. You don’t care.

You shouldn’t be angry at Sanji, this you know. You shouldn’t be avoiding him, shouldn’t be refusing to eat the meals he’s cooked or refusing to be in the same room with him, but you are. You are pissed at him, you don’t want to speak to him, you don’t care if he left to protect the crew.

He still left. And maybe that makes you selfish, but you don’t care. You had to sit there and watch as he yelled and fought with Luffy, as he was driven in a way in a carriage by a family you didn’t even know he had, to marry someone else.

You know that Sanji knows you’re angry, if the space he’s giving you is any implication. He doesn’t beg or plead, doesn’t corner you in the kitchen, demanding that you speak to him. The most he’s done is look at you, blue eyes impossibly sorrowful, remorseful, their own silent apology. It’s not enough.

It only takes a week for Zoro to corner you instead. “This is getting ridiculous.”

“What is?” You ask as you sweep the deck.

“You and Curly, fighting.”

“We’re not fighting.”

“Not talking, then.”

“What’s it matter to you? You don’t even like Sanji.”

He groans. “Just talk to him. His sulking is getting on my damn nerves and making the food taste bad.”

“Fine.” You snap, annoyed.

You watch as he walks away, practically steaming. To be honest, you didn’t think the swordsman, out of all crew members, would be the first one to say something. You suppose that’s how you know it's really bothering everyone.

You enter the kitchen for the first time in nearly two weeks and lean against the counter. Sanji is washing the dishes, but he knows you’re there, can tell by the way he tenses up.

“Just give me one moment.” He says to you, voice even and gentle, barely even a whisper.

You wait, bouncing your leg, trying not to let your nerves show too much.

The water shuts off and then it’s just you and him in the late night darkness of the kitchen.

“I don’t know how easy it’ll be to forgive you.” You tell him, eyes downcast.

“I understand.”

You close your eyes, taking a deep breath, annoyed. “I don’t think you do.”

He’s annoyed now too. Sad on top of it all. “Then help me understand.”

“I would’ve waited right alongside Luffy,” you tell him, the anger and hurt making the words sound like venom, but they’re true, “I would’ve stood right there, waiting for you to come back to me. How am I supposed to just forgive you?”

Sanji’s face breaks then, a sob leaving his body as if it’s been torn out of his chest and he falls to his knees, hands gripping your pants tightly as he whispers an apology over and over, a relentless heartbroken echo. You can feel the tears absorb into the fabric.

You know he is. God, you know he is. The tears fall freely from your face as you collapse, too.

He draws you into his chest, burying his tear stained face into your hair. “I couldn’t bear to see you hurt, I know you don’t want to hear it, but it’s true. You’re everything to me.”

“And you’re everything to me. What was I going to do if you had died, like they had planned, or if you had decided that your bride was enough to make you forget about me? Forget about the crew?”

He takes your face in his hands almost immediately, his blue eyes dark in the moonlight, but you can still see the panicked desperation in them. “Never. I’d never forget about you.”

“She was in love with you.”

“I don’t care. I don’t care about any of it. Out of all the crew members, you were the one they had used against me the most. I don’t care what I had to do to keep you safe, I was going to do whatever they wanted.”

“You know what I’m going to say, Sanji.”

He pulls you closer. “I know. I can’t promise that I won’t try to sacrifice myself for you anymore. Any of you.”

“I can’t promise that I’ll forgive you right away each time.”

Sanji kisses your fingers. “Just….I need you to talk to me when you’re angry, even if all you do is tell me you’re upset. I can’t do this again.”

You kiss him on the cheek, just once. Softly, like it didn’t even happen. “Of course. Whatever you want me to do.”

“Are you still angry with me?” He’s smiling softly though, like he already knows the answer and doesn’t care.

“Pissed beyond belief.” You tell him, but you know that it’s still the leftover fear. The fear that you almost did lose him, that him riding away in the carriage could’ve been the last time you ever saw him.

“That’s alright,” he kisses your head and then stands, “are you hungry?”

You nod. “Starving, actually. The sandwiches I’ve been making can’t compare to your cooking after all.”

“I’d eat whatever you made,” he tells you, “even if it was disgusting and gave me food poisoning.”

You laugh, wrapping your arms around him. “I love you.”

“I love you too. Now, no distracting the cook. Go sit at the table and look pretty.”

You roll your eyes but do as he says. As you watch him cook from your place at the table, you know that there are going to be times when he thinks he knows what you need; thinks he knows about what’s best for you. You know it’ll lead to someone getting hurt or an argument, or whatever else happens in the aftermath, but you also know that you’re prepared to make it better, that you’d rather have him to argue with then you would rather have a body to bury and a eulogy to read out.

He walks towards you, putting a bowl of soup, reheated on the stove, in front of you, before you grab him by the hips and pull him into a simple kiss. When he pulls away, he sits next to you, holding your non-dominant hand. You don’t dare let go

Behold! I have returned to bring you a gift!

Yes, I've actually managed to write another Cora fic. I've been working on this for over a week now and I'm so glad that it's finally done. Hope you enjoy it!

Summary:

Having made their vows to follow their dreams, the Straw Hat Pirates have a little party as they wait for a storm to clear. Over the course of the evening, mixed in with Usopp's magnificent stories, Cora shares the one myth she knows about her family, and eventually falls asleep after weeks of being unable to get a good rest, finally feeling safe. However, this only serves as yet another reason for Zoro and Sanji to get into a fight, this time over how to best take care of the girl that makes both of their seemingly opposite worlds go round.

BONUS

I don't know if I'll turn this into an actual tradition for all the OC posts I'll make from now on, but I think I will as long as I have unintroduced characters and as long as I still have fun with it. SO, here's another hint for my unintroduced OPLA OC.

First of all, allow me to sort of explain the last hint I gave with my Cora poster: Her devil fruit is based off of the game Super Princess Peach and the music video for Cry Baby by Melanie Martinez. I'll link it to you here, with the potentially disturbing first part skipped (hopefully - I've tested it on desktop, don't know about mobile). If not, skip to 4:29, that's where it gets interesting for my OC.

Now, a new tip: The devil fruit's name is Poro Poro no Mi! And since I feel a little bad feeding you only the tiniest crumbs: She'll probably be introduced during the crew's stay at Syrup Village and she's not fully human.

Headaches

Roronoa Zoro x Sanji x gn! Reader

Sanji and Zoro have been fighting a lot more lately, and you’re determined to find out why

You were tired of stopping fights. It seemed almost every day at this point that it was happening, you wake up, Sanji and Zoro are bickering. You make port, they’re fighting. Even Chopper was getting tired of patching up their bruises.

You knew they bickered, you saw it from the very beginning, but you have no idea what could’ve made it worse. So far, it’s been a normal day on the Sunny, heat bearing down and the ocean carrying a cool breeze, one that leads you to a small town.

It’s as you’ve gathered your things that you hear a loud crash from up on deck, and you rush upstairs, fearing the worst. But when you reach the top, it’s Zoro and Sanji again, the former having shoved the cook so roughly into the taffrail that it’s broken.

Franky and Usopp both let a bewildered cry, but you? You’re steaming. A scuffle here and there is one thing, but this has gotten out of hand.

You storm up to them, pulling them apart with the help of Robin before practically getting in both of their faces. “What the actual fuc- no, you know what, let’s go somewhere else.”

You drag the two men below deck by their arms, not struggling to break free even though they could. You shove them both down onto two separate chairs.

“What the actual fuck has been wrong with you two? I know you bicker, but this is out of hand!”

They - well, Sanji, - look sheepish, but stay silent. You look at them both and then the nearby window. Luffy won’t even notice if one of them goes overboard, right?

The swordsman cracks under the weight of your glare. “Fuck, alright. Tell her, Curly.”

The chef gawks. “Me? What about you?!”

“It was your idea!”

“The hell it was!”

You pinch your nose bridge. “One of you just spit it out. Now.”

They explain the situation, leaving you wide eyed and jaw open by the time they’re done.

“You just decided to fight over who gets to go out with me?! You didn’t even ask me!”

“We thought-“

“Well, please never think again if that’s the kind of ideas you two are going to come up with.”

“We’re sorry.” Sanji tells you, elbowing his partner in crime in the side.

“Yeah, sorry.”

You know that Zoro is just annoyed, so you don’t take his half assed apology to heart. You do level with them, however.

“You’re both insane if you think I’m dating either one of you after this.”

Both of their eyes widen. “But-“

“I’m serious. What would you have done if one of you had won and I didn’t even like you? You didn’t make any efforts to win my affection, you didn’t take my feelings into account at all. The only thing either of you gave me was a headache.”

“Well, then tell us how we win you over.” Zoro says, a fierce look in his eye.

“Oh, so you don’t even know how, okay.”

“I’m serious. He’s serious. Tell us what to do.”

You sigh. Knowing Zoro, you know he’s not likely to do anything halfway, and Sanji is sure to do the same. Headaches, the two of them.

“Well, for starters, no one likes breaking up fights everyday and hauling you to the doctor. So start there, start trying to get along.” You think, oh there’s no way they go along with this.

But the two men just sigh with sad acceptance. “Alright. What’s next?”

You truly don’t know what to say, you didn’t think you’d get this far with them. “Being helpful would be nice. Uh, I hear people like gifts.”

“Don’t tell us what other people want,” urges Sanji, “tell us what you want.”

You groan. “I don’t know, okay? I’ve been on the sea with you two for years, so I don’t have a lot of people trying to woo me. Just….I don’t know, be nice to me or something. Talk to me. Make an effort to actually get to know me.”

They both nod and you dismiss them from their seats. After Sanji leaves, Zoro turns to you.

“Hey. We really are sorry about what went down.”

You just nod. “I know.”

There really is a change in the air over the next few weeks. The fighting between the two isn’t gone, but there’s less of it. Sanji asks for your help in the kitchen and Zoro often asks if you want to spar with him. When you go into town, one or both of them follow you, bickering over who gets to carry what. It really is sweet to see, and it does flatter you. You’re almost surprised at how much you like being around them.

“Hey, come look at this!” Sanji calls over to you, Zoro already standing close beside him.

You walk up to the little stall. “What's up?”

The chef grins, holding up a few bracelets to you. “Which one do you want? Fair warning, Mosshead wants the black one even if he says he doesn’t.”

Zoro lets out a protest, but you can tell he doesn’t mean it. You settle on a green and yellow one that looks pretty enough, the elaborate braids combining the colors in a way that you enjoy. That leaves Sanji with a black and blue one.

Sanji ties the bracelet around your wrist, his deft fingers making quick work of it. “There. Nice, right?”

You nod, feeling your face get warm. “Do you need help with yours?”

“I’ve got it, but between you and I, Zoro might need help with his.”

You shoot him a puzzled look, but walk over to the swordsman, who is indeed struggling to fasten the small bracelet.

You laugh quietly and take the bracelet from him, he then hands you his wrist. His skin is warm to the touch in your hand, this close you can see the calluses and scars from the many years of sword fighting. You fasten the bracelet for him.

“There. Now we all match.” You tell them.

They both turn red.

That night, as you venture into the kitchen after everyone’s asleep, you stumble upon quite a scene. Sanji is pressed against the counter, Zoro against him, pressing kisses into his neck and hair.

You gasp in surprise and they turn, mortified and jump apart.

You go to walk away but Sanji practically leaps across the room to stop you.

“W-wait! Let us explain.”

You still and let Zoro guide you to a chair. Sanji slides a cup of warm tea over to you before they both sit in a chair.

“We do like you.” The chef supplies before you can say anything.

“But, spending time with you and getting our own shit together….well. Curly’s insatiable.” Zoro has a smug grin on his face, which makes Sanji smack him.

Your head, however, is spinning. “Wait. Explain one more time.”

“We,” Sanji starts, gesturing between the two of them, “want to date you. Together.”

“How….how would that even work?”

“I don’t know,” Zoro answers, “but I want to try.”

You nod. “Okay.”

Sanji grins before leaning forward, only stopping when you nod. He kisses you softly, it makes warmth blossom from your chest and you smile into it.

“Okay Curly, my turn.”

The chef rolls his eyes but pulls away, kissing Zoro briefly before the other man does the same to you.

Zoro’s kiss is different. Where Sanji was soft, his was almost desperate, lips pressing fervently against yours. Sanji laughs softly in the background.

“You’re going to suffocate them if you keep that up.”

Zoro flips him off, but lets you go almost reluctantly.

Your head is spinning, but you smile. “Well, you two can get along.”

“It’s hard work, but it paid off I suppose.”

You took their hands in each of your own. “I think this’ll work out.”

They grin back at you. “I think so too.”

You’ve been in love with Sanji for a long time, but have never been brave enough to do anything about it, until now.

The breeze brushes against your face as you stare out at the blue sea, the rising sun peaking out above the horizon. You were up earlier than the rest of the crew, wanting to watch the sunrise before the day dove into chaos, as it was bound to do when Luffy was awake. You watch the rest of the stars disappear and then climb down from the crow’s nest, ready to begin your day.

You always woke up earlier than the rest of the crew, cherishing the alone time you got in the morning silence, the waves crashing against the Sunny being the only sound filling the air. You took a deep breath, letting the salty air wash over you, before the yelling started.

“Luffy, get out of the kitchen!” Sanji shouts, followed by the crashing of pans.

“But I’m hungry!” Your captain whines, and you laugh, before heading into the kitchen to herd him elsewhere.

“You should ask Nami about where we head next, I hear there’s a port nearby.” You tell Luffy, who grins in response before running off to bother the navigator.

Sanji sighs. “Thanks. Have you been awake long?”

You flush. “Who? Me? No.”

He cracks a smile like he doesn’t believe you and hands you a glass full of something to drink. “Well, you are welcome in here any time, as long as you clean up your mess.”

“Don’t worry about any mess from me! I’m as clean as they come, haha.”

You turn to walk out, run into the doorframe and contemplate walking into the sea, wishing you had eaten a devil fruit so you could drown. There was something about Sanji that made your brain short circuit and disconnect from your mouth, letting it run unattended.

“Are you….okay?”

You’re almost certain there’s a mark on your forehead from the door, but you wave him off. “Never been better.”

You are definitely walking into the ocean when you make port, it’ll be less embarrassing in the long run.

Making your way from the kitchen, you run into Zoro, who is desperately trying to hold back his laughter. “That was-”

“Say one more word and you’ll be tied to the front of the ship as the new figurehead.”

He doesn’t take your threat seriously. “You’re this flustered over curly brow in there? Unbelievable.”

“I hate you. So much.”

He’s still cackling as you walk away, and you definitely don’t deserve Zoro to understand what you see in the cook, but Sanji was…..he was amazing.

You saw parts of him that no one ever did, like when you helped him in the kitchen and he hummed softly to himself, sleeves pushed up to his elbows as he washed the dishes. When you accidentally cut yourself with a knife and he doctored it right there, eyebrows furrowed in concentration but you were only focused on the impossible blue of his eyes, always focused on his eyes. Sanji was kind and gentle and brave, but no one else could see that.

Soon enough, the crew made port and you went ashore alone, desperate to avoid Sanji(and the more annoying Zoro) but mostly to find something to give to the cook, if you could sync your brain with your mouth long enough to have a meaningful conversation with the man. But what would you get him? He didn’t use cookbooks, and he bought his own ingredients(not that you’d know where to start, being as you wouldn’t be able to know what were good quality ingredients).

He wasn't a jewelry guy either, though he would wear it beautifully but then you remember a conversation the both of you had a few months ago.

Sanji sets the knife down on the cutting board with more force than necessary, startling you. He laughs lightly and apologizes.

“I need new knives, but I keep forgetting to buy any when we make port. Would you remind me?”

You flush and nod furiously but say nothing, just watch as he picks up the knife and starts chopping again.

You grin and make your way towards a stall you passed a few minutes ago, now certain that you were getting Sanji the perfect gift. At least you hoped so.

You were the first one back to the ship, box in tow, leaving it in the kitchen where you knew he would find it. You had decided that you didn’t have the courage to give them to him yourself, but hoped he didn’t think much of it. Maybe he would think one of the other crew members gave them to him.

Proud of yourself, you climb up the crow’s nest again to look at the stars, always seeming brighter when you make port. You hum to yourself as you do so, leg bouncing in anticipation. What if he hates them? Or he tells you that he doesn’t want to talk to you anymore? Were you risking your friendship over a set of knives?

Just as you had decided to return them, you heard the crew clambering back on deck and you curse, crouching low so they don’t see you. It works, because they soon start asking each other about your whereabouts. They don’t seem especially worried, since it’s a safe town and you’re more than capable of handling yourself, but it’s nice to know they care, even if they tease you.

The crew goes their separate ways, and the cook finally heads into the kitchen to start prepping for dinner and that’s when you begin making your way towards the lower decks.

You almost make it when he comes back and spots you. “Oh, there you are!”

You turn and grin. “Here I am, haha. What do you have there?”

You gesture to the box, though you already know its contents.

Sanji beams, and it’s so bright you fear you may go blind. “Knives! I don’t know where they came from, but they’re gorgeous.” He takes on out to show you.

It is gorgeous, that being the main reason you purchased them. A beautiful pearl handle, topped with a gorgeous steel blade. You knew he’d love them, even if your brain wanted to argue.

“That is really pretty, Sanji.”

“Did you leave them? I know we talked about knives a while back.”

This is your chance.

You shake your head no and shrug. “Sorry, wasn’t me, but I hope you find who left them soon.”

His face almost falls at the aspect of you not being the gift giver. “Oh, well, whoever it was picked out a really nice set.”

You smile at him as he bids you goodbye and you curse yourself for not telling him the truth. Oh well, you suppose it’s better than him rejecting you outright. It was kind of nice, leaving him anonymous gifts.

He seemed happy to receive it, but it was always nice to see him happy, especially since it seemed to be a rare sight most days. You wanted to continue making him happy.

A few days later, Zoro joined you in the crow’s nest before dinner.

“You know, the shit cook really wanted those knives to be from you.”

“Huh?”

He rolls his one eye. “You’re not serious.”

You say nothing.

“You are. The cook’s been staring at you and sighing hopelessly for days, it’s really pissing me off.”

“That doesn’t mean anything.”

“He told Robin the other day he wanted it to be you. Plus, the whole crew can see that you two are in love with each other. Even Luffy.”

“I’m not going to take romantic advice from you of all people. Sanji and I are friends. Really good friends, a friend I have no intentions of confessing to.”

Zoro sighed, leaning his arms against the wood. “Do you remember when we got into that fight with that gang of bandits a few months ago? And you got injured real bad and were unconscious for what, three days?”

“Of course. Why?” You thought he was just changing the subject.

“Curls was the one taking care of you while you were out, making sure you drank water, helping Chopper clean and dress your wounds, sitting on a chair in the infirmary while you slept, he was really worried.”

You open your mouth to object, to say anything other than what was going through your head but he cuts you off.

“And don’t you say he would do it for any one of us, because that’s bullshit. Now go down there and tell him how you feel.”

The swordsman pushes you towards the ladder and you begrudgingly climb down and head for the kitchen. It wasn’t like Zoro to lie, in fact he was the most honest man you knew, so you knew he had to be telling the truth.

You knock softly on the door before you enter and find Sanji beaming at you. “Hey, what brings you by?”

“I….I think we should talk.”

He sets the towel on the edge of the sink. “Okay.”

You wring your hands as you sit on the counter, something that the cook used to object to but now has accepted as a quirk of yours. He leans next to you.

“I did buy you the knives. I was too scared to give them to you myself so I left them in here for you to find.”

“Why didn’t you say something when I asked?”

You aren’t looking at his face but you can feel his gaze burning you. “I really fucking like you, Sanji. It actually makes me stupid because I like you so much. You’re just so incredibly caring and strong and I like being around you because you make me happy and I didn’t want to ruin anything by telling you that.”

“You wouldn’t have ruined anything.” He tells you, voice impossibly soft.

“You sure?”

He takes your face in his hands, and you are trapped in the impossible blue of his eyes once again. “I’m certain, because I feel the same way.”

You laugh a little wetly as he kisses your hand and then your cheek before finally meeting your lips. It’s a little sloppy, but you have nothing to compare it to. You know he doesn’t either, and he told you as such one late night in the kitchen.

He pulls away grinning, cheeks a little red. “That was…nice.”

You lay your head on his shoulder. “Yeah.”

The two of you get one quiet moment before the crew charges in to tease you and you yelp as Franky wraps a particularly large arm around you and ruffles your hair, while the rest of the crew begins to tease Sanji for getting up to no good in his kitchen.

He yells and scolds them all while you laugh, and then when he makes eye contact with you over the chaos he smiles and everything is as it should be. Perfect.

Sanji isn’t your soulmate, but that doesn’t stop you from being in love with him.

The man you’re in love with isn’t your soulmate, you know that for a certain fact. You met your soulmate when you were eight years old, a passing face in a busy port town. “Sorry, didn’t mean to bump into you,” etched on your side forever and said by someone you don’t know, someone you don’t love.

Sanji doesn’t know you’re in love with him, but you know he hasn’t found his soulmate yet, even if he really wants to. He’s an old fashioned romance type, even if he denies it. You don’t know where his soulmark is, have never asked because it’s painful to think about.

The crew asks about your soulmate, and you answer, saying you never saw them again after the five minutes you’d met, but you didn’t mind, because you wanted to find love on your own, not because some writing on your ribcage told you who you should love.

“Are you sure you’ll never meet them again?” Robin asks, hand on her cheek as she listens to everyone talk intently.

You shrug. “Big world out there Robin, with an even bigger ocean. But, I don’t care if I meet them again. If it happens it happens.”

She nods in understanding, but doesn’t ask anything else.

“I don’t get what the big deal is,” Luffy remarks, “I’ve never had a soulmark. But if I did, my soulmate would have to wait until I was king of the pirates to meet me!”

You roll your eyes at your captain’s enthusiasm, but you admire him. He never seems bothered at the fact that he doesn’t have a soulmate, Zoro the same way. Usopp and Sanji seem to lament not finding their soulmates yet, but they shove that worry aside to follow Luffy everywhere he takes them.

And then, you make port in a small town, known for their unique cuisine, which Sanji is, of course, ecstatic for.

He splits off from the group almost immediately and you fight the urge to tail and scold him. He’s a grown man, if he gets into a fight he can defend himself.

You instead go off with Nami and Usopp, who want to check out the shops. You don’t feel like being alone today.

You spend a few moments looking at a few odds and ends but not really interested in anything. Eventually, you leave the pair behind and walk through town, greeting the occupants with a grin.

And then Sanji runs into you, quite literally. He knocks you on your ass and then helps you up.

“Geez, Sanji, you’re white as a ghost.” You tease, dusting yourself off.

“Sorry,” he says, “I just….I’m out of it.”

“What happened? You were practically bouncing off the walls a few hours ago.”

“I met my soulmate.” The cook sounds scared, not at all like the lovestruck fool you know he can be.

Your heart drops. “Oh. That’s great, Sanji. I’m happy for you.”

Awkward silence passes before you tell him you need to go and you bolt towards the Sunny as fast as you can go. You say a quick greeting to those who stayed on the ship and then bury yourself under the covers on your bunk. You don’t come out until long after everyone is asleep.

You creep into the kitchen, looking for a snack and something to drink when the light brightens the room. You freeze, piece of bread midway to your open mouth.

“Oh,” Sanji says, “it’s just you.”

“Just me.” You repeat.

“I thought it was Luffy. He likes to sneak in here sometimes.”

“I know. Sometimes I help him.”

“You what?”

“Kidding.”

You sit on the counter, sandwich and water next to you. It’s silent between the two of you as you finish your meal.

“Are you okay?” He asks as you rinse out your glass.

“Peachy.” You respond.

“Don’t lie.”

You sit back on the counter. “Doing as well as I can be.”

“”I’m in love with you.” He says, like he’s telling you about the weather.

“No you’re not.” You say, a little dumbly.

He laughs in disbelief. “I am.”

“You have a soulmate.”

“I told them I didn’t want them. That I had someone else.”

“But- I don’t….I don’t understand. You always went on about meeting them, how could you just cast them aside?”

“I thought that if I pretended I wanted to meet my soulmate bad enough, I’d eventually believe it, that I’d forget about you. But it didn’t work.”

Sanji’s hands are on your shoulders, bringing you close, trying to bring you even closer. His eyes are wide, almost desperate as he stares at you, like he’s trying to get you to believe him through looks alone. His voice is strained as he speaks.

“I’d do anything for you. Anything.”

You let out a soft gasp at his words, almost unable to believe them. “I just-are you sure, Sanji? You met your soulmate, for fuck’s sake. What if you don’t know if this is what you want?” What if you don’t want me, remains unspoken.

“I know what I want,” he tells you, firm, “because it’s right here in my hands.”

You know the tears fall when he wipes a thumb across your face, and then he’s pulling you into a desperate kiss, your arms locked around his shoulders. He’s kissing down your neck and whispering to you: “anything, anything, anything.”

Before you can even think, he’s made his way back up to your lips, and presses against them again, whimpering slightly, like he’s wanted nothing but this for ages.

The two of you pull away and he presses his forehead to yours. His cheeks are flushed, pale skin tinged a light pink. “I love you, I love you.” He whispers, almost imperceptible, almost as if he’s scared you’ll change your mind.

You repeat the words to him, in that same delicate tone, the same soft whisper and he kisses up your arm as you do so, face still flushed.

His blazer comes off, the tie, the shirt. Your shirt. You see his soulmark, etched upon his ribs just like yours, and you run your fingers over it. He doesn’t stop you, though he shivers in response to the touch.

“I can almost pretend they match.” You whisper, mostly to yourself.

“I thought you didn’t believe in stuff like that.” He says, a kiss is placed on your bare shoulder.

“With you I do. I want to be bound to you by fate, Sanji.”

Sanji places his hand on your ribcage in turn. “I’d change it if I could, I’d leave my handprint right here, I’d leave my words etched upon your skin.”

You smile a little. “Do you remember what you said to me when we first met?”

“I asked if you were lost. Even then, I’d hoped you were my soulmate. Even when you didn’t say the words.”

“I don’t even know what it says.” You admit, looking down at the elegant scroll of writing on his side.

He lifts your chin up to meet his eyes. “That doesn’t matter anymore, I’ll get the biggest and ugliest tattoo in the world to cover it up, and then we’ll never think about it again.”

You laugh, albeit a little wetly, but your head swirls with emotions. A few hours ago you thought he didn’t love you back, that he didn’t even think about you. You almost fear that you’re in a dream.

“I love you.” He says again, like he’s testing out the words, but his eyes are still desperate, like you don’t believe him.

“I love you too.”

Reality hits you then and you let out another tear strained laugh. “You chose me over your soulmate.”

“As far as fate is concerned, you’re the only one I need.”

He kisses you again, pulling you close, the skin to skin contact a foreign but welcome sensation and the shiver that it causes leaves goosebumps in its wake.

The door to the kitchen opens and the both of you freeze. You and Nami make eye contact.

“I’m going back to bed.” She announces, and the door swings shut once again.

You and Sanji laugh, his head is on your shoulder as he lets out a silent wheeze.

“No more making out in the kitchen.” You tell him, still laughing.

“Then you definitely aren’t allowed in here anymore.”

You flush but playfully elbow him in the ribs. “Maybe you shouldn’t be allowed in the kitchen.”

Sanji kisses your cheek and hands you your shirt. “We’ll hash out the details later.”

You’re loath to leave him, for some reason. But you shake the feeling off as leftover insecurity and kiss him gently, wishing him a good night. He keeps looking behind him as he walks to the bunk room.

You sigh dreamily as you sweep the deck and can’t help but think the stars look a little brighter that night.
