Thinking about Danny Phantom but as found footage/analogue horror. Like, it works SO incredibly well and I'm a bit obsessed.
Inexplicably grainy FentonWorks lab footage? A ghost dissection video log that gets more disturbing the longer it goes on? Ambiguous morality? Distorted imagery? Something being very, very wrong with the Fenton's son?
The proto-portal test footage from the 80s???? followed by hospital quarantine reports describing what a fatal dose of ecto-contaminants looks like? Which is then interrupted by Ṽ̵͇͍̓̒̕l̷̛͕̜̞̬͒̔͑̾̊͊a̷̝̰͕̗͇̣̓́́d̶̢̬̳̗̻̖̄̒̓̈́͌̚̕ ̴̡̛̱̱́́͆͠ͅw̷͎̬̠͒̐́̈́̈̇̚ā̵̢̢̛͔͙́͒̚͝k̴̡̹̘̻̜͇̬̍̏̄͂̊̀͠i̸̙͋͗̄ṅ̸̢̳̻̠̦̬͌̍͐͐̅͠g̶͇̥̮̦̗͑̃͘ ̶̨̏̈́̆͠ṳ̷͉̩̮̙̄̇͜p̸̧̡̹̗͇͘ and turning the hospital upside down?

where would you have ended the series at? like some people say ftf, some say s7, some say it was right to go all the way through the revival.
do i have to keep it exactly as is and decide where to cut it off or can i go all the way through and change literally everything that happens? lmao
keeping everything the same, my ideal end would’ve been after s8. mulder and scully holding that baby, family restored, deciding he was the truth they had been looking for: that IS the end of this story. that is the only natural conclusion to what we’re doing here. there is literally no reason why it ever should’ve changed from that.
and i like s8!! other than the reproductive trauma nastiness and some dull episodes, i love the narrative of that season.
if you had to do s9 and for some reason we had to lose the baby, if i had my way, 2nd movie would’ve still been a MOTW (a completely different one lol) and dedicated a lot more to exploring the themes that are already present. what it means to be followed by “the darkness”, what it’s like to live in a haunted house, what the effect of missing child after missing child is on them and their relationship. the coping mechanisms that they’ve developed and the ways that it comes in-between them.
revival could’ve still happened, could’ve had a lot of the same ideas, i’ll even allow them the same motivations for trying to find the baby. but instead of killing jackson’s adoptive parents and doing…..whatever that was……it could’ve focused on mulder and scully getting back into solving x-files while getting to know him, on some level.
and on moving forward from that pathology that kept them so haunted for so many years; a lot of the growth they do have in the revival is in them talking about their child and not just avoiding it and carrying around the guilt. to actually be able to know him and form a relationship with him would’ve gone a long way to an imperfect but still satisfying resolution to their characters.
it’s wild how bad s9/IWTB/revival are when, in my opinion, it would’ve only taken such MINIMAL changes to be good?? CC clearly regrets the plot that ruined his show, and it would’ve been so easy to fix it, rather than try to erase it.
basically, i want IWTB and the revival, written by glenn and james not chris.

So I know this isn't anything that like actually needs an apology but it'll make me feel a bit better to say it. Oof whoops this ABoT chapter is super late. Timing kinda sucks since I wanted to have some updates out while s3 was airing but
Been kinda mega busy and stressed since October with the whole condo buying thing which rolled right into immediate day 0 plumbing and boiler issues I had to get fixed and general moving hassle and financial commitment stress and I kinda just fried myself hard. Plus then acclimating to a new place without my familiar street or familiar grocery store or familiar room or any of that. Like there's no "just go home and take your mind off it" to this cuz home is the "it". So I'm just kinda enduring until I can calm the hell down.
And anyway I definitely have progress on ch47, like 7000-ish words of it, but it's the kind of like "there is writing there" and hasn't exactly hit the "there is substance there" that I want ABoT chapters to be. Like this in particular is a chapter I want to be good, not just be done. So it's taking time to get my brain somewhere that can do that.
#anyway#i mean just in case anyone was like wondering if its discontinued to anything#its still going i just can't make it Good quite yet#(plus i need to get furniture cuz as it stands the place is really quite empty and bare except for like my room and the kitchen)#(also the bank had my address wrong so they havent been able to send me any of the mortgage information which was technically due already)#(ive been in contact with them but it's a whole thing)#(plus im still not quite finished with all the utility switching. i still need to get water in my name)#(and the boiler issue fucked up my gas bill so now ive got a crazy high gas bill i just need to... pay)#(i have actually started seeing a therapist but thats a whole other Thing now figuring out insurance and deductables and using my HSA#account and just... it's a lot)#(oh also my homeowner's insurance policy number doesn't actually work for getting me into the online portal. and the geico guy said he was#looking into it but I havent heard anything in a while)#(its a lot im just gonna melt for a while i guess)#(plus all the upfront stress has made it really hard to associate the new place as 'home' instead of 'place of great many plumbing evils')#(i sat on like 4 million couches this week and the only one i really really like probably doesn't quite fit in my living room)#(the downstairs neighbors tv is too loud and i need to talk to her about it in a way which isn't 'hey im holding on by a thread and this#one small inconvenience is the thing which is making me turn into ash')#(oh thats right i have to go pay my january HOA dues...)#(oh also I need to file for the owner-occupied tax exemption thing now that its 2023)#anyway......... ill be normal eventually. im just not normal right now.#chrissy speaks

NCIS / X-Files crossover fic I'll never write because the audience is probably just me: #1
Circa 2012. Bill and Tara Scully have been living in the D.C. area for a few years now after Bill was transferred to the Naval station in Norfolk. Their 15 year old son, Matthew, goes missing.
The NCIS Major Case Response Team takes the case, but something about his disappearance is strange. They hit a dead end pretty quickly.
Shortly after, a doctor and her husband show up on NCIS' doorstep demanding to speak to the agents in charge of the case. They meet with the NCIS team and explain that the woman, Scully, is the missing boy's aunt, and that she and her husband are former FBI agents that specialized in the unexplained. They demand to see the evidence.
Blah blah blah, they help them solve the case. But the real fun stuff is the character interactions you get along the way.
DiNozzo and Mulder bonding over a shared appreciation of movies (though DiNozzo will admit that Mulder's taste in movies tends to be a little more... obscure). DiNozzo totally brags that he played basketball for Ohio State.
Scully assisting Dr. Mallard with an autopsy in the course of the investigation, while Mulder observes and bounces criminal profile theories off him and chats about his education in the U.K.
F.B.I. agent Fornell stopping by and commenting something about "those weirdos who worked in the basement."
Somehow, the Lone Gunmen come up in conversation, and McGee nerds out because he totally was subscribed to them in the 90s. Abby blows his mind by saying something like "Oh yeah, I dated Ringo back in 94, haven't I told you that?"
Ziva and Scully both definitely bond over their ridiculous goofball partners, and how irritating and reckless they can be.
...and Mulder and Scully IMMEDIATELY clock the tension between Tony and Ziva. And make it their mission to prevent them from making the same mistakes they did. Oh yeah, this is totally a Tiva getting their act together hypothetical fic.
Tony shares how he rescued Ziva from imprisonment in a terrorist camp in Somalia. He'd thought she was dead. Mulder mentions going to Antarctica to save Scully, and Tony definitely thinks the whole alien story is a little odd but goes along with it anyway lol.
And because Mulder and Scully might have started to have some differences and difficulties, this case (and seeing themselves in this younger partner duo) reminds them what it's all about, and their relationship gets strengthened.
Anyway, I've thought about this a lot cause they're my two favorite shows, but I don't think the overlap of the Tiva fandom with Mulder and Scully is all that large, so this will never happen 😂

so i was rewatching the ankawala one ship short (known colloquially in my household as Six of the Most Emotionally Devastating Minutes of My Life) for, you know... reasons... and for the first time i actually paid attention to the info that's displayed on drummer's hand terminal during these videos.
Y'ALL.
okay. okay.
Tumblr media
(naomi, you huge fucking nerd, i love you so much)
first of all, i love that this message is saved in drummer's favorites. i mean, of course it is, but. cute. and then we have these categories listed to the left: naomi, behemoth, music, birthday, beratna, shipmang. all well and good, although as someone who is (maybe) (just slightly) invested in the enduring love between these two, i'm giving "beratna" the side-eye insofar as it could be read to imply that they're like, bros. but okay, fine, whatever, we are used to this sort of thing in the femslash trenches, we soldier ever onward.
we also get to see a list of a few of drummer's other favorites:
Tumblr media
the text on the right is gibberish, as far as i can tell, but the way the messages are numbered seems to imply that drummer gets a LOT of messages. (girl, this is why you need a separate phone for work.)
anyway. back to naomi.
Tumblr media
('i wish that YOU could have been down there on ilus with me,' she says, in the outrageously flirty tone one uses with friends with whomst they are definitely not still in love. yeah, we see you, dom.)
this one is also in drummer's favorites (can you blame her? and also spoiler: they all are). and it's got similar categories to the previous message: naomi, rocinante, ilus, beratna, shipmang.
still slightly annoyed by the "beratna" category, i move onto the final message:
Tumblr media
annnnnd here is where i started laughing and have been unable to stop. we've got our usual categories here: naomi, rocinante, beratna, and shipmang. but that category in the middle? it's a little hard to see...
Tumblr media
but that says fucking GIRL POWER.
oooookay. so that is (a) absurdly hilarious, and (b) clear proof that whatever in-universe messaging program they use has GOT to be automatically categorizing these messages. because you cannot convince me that there is any galaxy in any universe in all of time and space where camina drummer – who has just allowed one of her family members to be murdered to save naomi's family, and, by extension, naomi – would watch this absolutely gut-wrenching message, get to the end, think for a moment, and then say to herself, "yeah, i'm gonna go ahead and file this one under 'girl power.'"
girl power. honestly.
so. in conclusion: that beratna category is bullshit and draomi is real.
thank you for coming to my ted talk.

1/2) "also don't get me started on the ways Homra in Las Vegas did not line up with Case Files". Please, tell us more about this. And how do you think the situation could have been saved? What to add or remove? I have a feeling that when writing the story about Homra, the author was too lazy to read the story about Scepter 4 and he asked a person from the outside to read the parts with Homra and write down the key points on pieces of paper, and then he lost half of the pieces of paper,
Tumblr media
Keeping in mind that I haven’t got time to go reread all of Case Files or Las Vegas, I’ll start by listing some of the major inconsistencies that come to mind off the top of my head. First, there’s the issue of Fushimi’s reason for going to the US and his movements throughout. In Case Files it’s indicated that his express reason for going was to get the components for what would become the Yuishiki system, and the narration at least makes it feel to me like meeting Homra was an unexpected (and unwelcome) side issue: “As far as he was concerned, his trip to America was all kinds of wretched. He was exhausted to the bone by having to play along with the stupidly cheerful locals, and just as he was preparing to leave, he ran into “acquaintances” by chance and got dragged into trouble he absolutely had neither need nor time for. As a result, he had been wounded in the arm and forcibly rewarded with American confections he wanted no part of as a present.” This definitely reads to me that Fushimi was not aware that Homra was in America and that his meeting them was something random he didn’t expect.
By contrast, Homra in Las Vegas has Timeless Palace very clearly asking Fushimi to go to America because of the Mizuchi issue, they know Homra is going to Las Vegas and Fushimi is asked there as a former member and someone who dealt with Mizuchi in the past. In that case, Fushimi should know Homra was there — even if he did additional training while all this was going on, he still knew 100% that Homra was in the US and was waiting for them. Timeline wise this also gets messy with Case Files because Fushimi has several phone conversations with Hidaka throughout, including one where Fushimi is stated to be at a fancy party with people trying to feed him. If he’s in Las Vegas waiting on Homra, where did he get the time to go to a random party? In addition the epilogue of part one straight-up states that Fushimi was called back early to deal with the S4 issue. But the Homra issue is already resolved by the time Fushimi leaves, so technically the reason he was there is done and complete. Munakata also seems very calm when calling Fushimi at the airport in the aftermath, not like he’s hurrying Fushimi home at all, even though as mentioned Case Files literally states Fushimi was called home early and intended to do more training.
The second big issue is Totsuka. In Case Files Munakata runs into Totsuka in the archives of S4, looking up information on “a certain Strain.” Which Strain, you ask? Not sure, because a Strain isn’t involved in Las Vegas! Mizuchi and Ed are both former clansmen. Totsuka also responds to Munakata asking about Mikoto with “Well… At present, his life is being targeted both by the American government and an insanely strong assassin the likes of which we’ve never seen before, but other than that, yes, I suppose he’s well. Business as usual.” This does somewhat track with Homra in Las Vegas, since Mizuchi was at least originally involved with the US government and Ed could be considered a strong assassin…but neither one of them is an issue at this point in the timeline, because Fushimi’s already come home and the matter was settled before he left America. So why is Totsuka even there? There shouldn’t be any info at this point that’s so urgent he needs to come all the way home while the rest of Homra is still in Las Vegas.
Between these issues it really feels like the novels are only vaguely related, honestly I almost feel like they should have just left Homra’s actions in Las Vegas as a vague behind the scenes thing and just made the actual story like them at some onsen in a rural Japanese town away from Shizume and that’s where everything goes down, because Las Vegas largely exists to be complement Case Files and it doesn’t. Practically the only thing they remembered was Fushimi injuring his arm in Las Vegas. I feel like this could have been fixed pretty easily too: first, have Fushimi meet with the Rabbits not in S4 but when he’s in America. Rather than the Rabbits asking him to go to America, simply state he was already in America for training and was interrupted. Now all his scenes calling Hidaka can be assumed as having happened before he was called away, and he still leaves early (and change that phone call with Munakata in the final chapter of Las Vegas to indicate as much, that the Homra mission interrupted his training and now he’s being sent home early).
The other issue I suspect is due to Gora trying to finish Homra in Las Vegas within a year’s timeframe, so they had to shorten the story: I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d already forgotten Totsuka referencing a Strain, and because they only had so much room for the story Fushimi would have to go home quite early on for the story to still continue on without him afterward. In general I would say this was actually one of my biggest disappointments with Homra in Las Vegas, I felt like it was really just getting started and then it ended. I can absolutely see a version where Ed runs off after fighting Fushimi and Yata, Fushimi gets called home and has to leave, Homra regroups and discusses the joint issue of Ed and Mizuchi. Maybe they mistake Ed for a Strain somehow and that’s why Totsuka has to go back to S4 for info, which is where he learns that Ed truly is a clansman of Kagustu (something S4 would absolutely have on file), and he returns to Las Vegas at a crucial moment with this information. This leads into a big final battle that ends the story. Basically the story needed a little more room to breathe in order to fit with Case Files and I think just to work as a standalone story, and unfortunately due to the schedule Gora set for themselves it ends up as a weird little side story that doesn’t quite fit with Case Files and isn’t really satisfying as a standalone either.

Thinking about season 8 (my beloved 😍) and something in how the awkwardness and trauma and DISTANCE after resurrection was a perfect tool to keep everyone themselves. Mulder could've been overprotective, overbearing, overinvolved, borderline obnoxious about the whole pregnancy thing. I think that if he was there the whole time it would've been a very fine line to walk, story wise, to do that without taking away from Scully as an individual. Scully in the field, Scully being a rebel, Scully doing whatever the fuck she feels like. Not to say it wouldn't have been interesting if they had successfully navigated that interaction between his guilt complex/overprotectiveness and her fierce independence. But the tension between Mulder saying 'Scully no' and Scully saying 'Scully YES' and mulder saying '...okay Scully you are my partner I support you' but watching her like a damn hawk was something they had kind of resolved and moved on from after the cancer arc and esp after Emily. By taking Mulder out of the picture she was only mother henned by people she would always have said 'thank you for your concern, get rekt' to. They set her up to go through most of it without the one person she MIGHT listen to hovering beside her, and sidestepped trying to figure out who desk job Scully would be in a world where Mulder is still chasing monsters. They didn't have to figure out who monster chaser Mulder would be in a world where he wouldn't call his partner for backup when something really cool or scary was going on. Scully didn't take a desk job or play it safe. Mulder only had to go fetch her and send her home once, and it was after she had already conceded to her doctor (but then, just like we'd expect from either of them, she went back to the lab to help save her [other] partner. And he knew recognized it and recognized that this was her and said okay I'll get it done. It was good for a one-time. Probably not good for a whole season) We never had to watch them have that fight.
