I don't know how Terry managed it. There's just nothing on this earth like a Discworld book. I'll be listening to a book I've read countless times over and suddenly, a single line I've never even really noticed before will tear me open. They just reach right inside me and open my ribcage to expose my very heart.
Tonight, it was Hat Full of Sky and Granny Weatherwax saying, "The world is unfair. Be grateful you have friends." On their own, the words are unremarkable. But juxtaposed together, with the context they are operating in....they had tears flowing down my face before I knew what was happening. The world is unfair; sometimes, the wonderful happens when it shouldn't (and/or when you feel you deserve a divinely wrathful torment) because you have friends. The world is unfair. That doesn't just mean that the horrible happens when it shouldn't. It means that the beautiful does too. Be grateful you have friends. They are the hub on which that beauty spins, turning the theft into gold.
A lot of people I've introduced to these books haven't liked them — they find them too silly, or preachy, or nonsensical, or even puerile. I am never upset or really disappointed when they don't like them. To each their own. But I will never understand it. They are baked into my being in a way that few things are and I am better to myself, to other people, and to the world because of it.
Sir Terry, you were a gift nonpareil. Thank you for your words and for shaping my world.

#for my first name--it's the standard spelling so people should NOT be getting it wrong#for my last name--it always bothers me when people spell it wrong BECAUSE!!!! i don't assume they'll get it right and SO--#when i tell literally anybody my name who needs to spell it? like doctor offices employers people on the phone who need to look it up etc?#i say '[name]. that's [spelled-out-each-letter].' and then when they STILL SPELL IT WRONG...it's just. People like to romanticize the relationship between Zelda and Link in a whole “destined reincarnated soulmates” kind of way, but am I the only one who thinks it would be more interesting if Link didn’t love Zelda?
Like, think of it. Hylia is a Goddess, basically Hylian Jesus, and she loves this mortal man. A hero who stepped forward to defeat a Devil in the world’s hour of greatest need. But, he didn’t do it for her, he did it for the World. Even when he binds his soul to the Triforce, locking himself in an endless pattern of reincarnation with her against the Devil Demise, it’s not because he loves her. He loves Hyrule and its people.
But that’s okay, maybe in the next life they can be?
But it isn’t. Over and over, Hylia becoming Zelda, Link doesn’t love her. He loves Hyrule. He loves to dance to its music and ride its fields and wants to preserve it against the threat of Demise. He loves different women each time, and sometimes it is Hylia’s reincarnation, but they’re never the core of his heart.
It’s always Hyrule that he loves. From it’s savage and arid deserts to the cold and harsh tundra, he loves it, and steps forward to save it each time.
Duty, he calls it. Responsibility and Purpose, but Hylia/Zelda knows the truth. He’ll never love her the way she wants him to.
Hyrule will always be Link’s first and greatest love.

Actually you know what I'm peer reviewing my own tags to point this out:
#another lil detail: the construct's red shield matches the red-pink-orange magic the yiga/maz koshia use.
#but kohga's own personal shields he's used in each fight and in botw are the blue shared by sheikah tech and impa (aoc) AND maz koshia
#nice blend of the two varieties of ancient sheikah magic on display here! (alongside the zonai-style energy powering the thing)
#((seized construct's shield/other energy that's animating it is a different, darker red-and-black color--that's ganondorf's color))

I reviewed another opinion for a judge in a case I worked on, and she not only copied my supervisor on an e-mail glowing with praise for my memo and how quick and helpful my editing was, she asked me to call her just so she could 'thank me properly' for explaining a complicated area of the law she was unfamiliar with and 'making her job so much easier.'

I couldn’t resist making this adorable pattern! The photos don’t really show it, but it’s got kind of a wood-grain pattern on the torso, which I think is pretty cool. Size 3 yarn, size C/2.75 mm hook. Roughly 4-5 inches tall.
now… the thing is that this isn’t just any Korok, though. This is a backpack Korok. So in true TotK fashion… we’ve been putting him in Situations.
