Let’s deconstruct this…
Ok, so at this point I’ve seen a great many things written on Who Ed is with a capital W, and even I’ve thrown bits and pieces of my hat in the ring. But there is one particular thing I have a burning desire to express, and that is, respectfully, Edward’s softness is his own damnit.
There’s a pretty popular notion gaining traction in the fandom that Ed’s softness is just as much a performance as Blackbeard. That him embracing it fully in those brief moments of episode 10 before “the kraken” was unhealthy actually, and he wasn’t being true to himself. In summary: Ed requires Blackbeard to be whole. And my question is: why do people find Ed an unreliable narrator in his softness, or more specifically, why do people think he lacks autonomy of it?
It bothers me when people say that Ed is trying to be like Stede to gain approval in these moments, because the only major similarity I see is aesthetic. Guys a huge theme of the show is older queer men finally finding ways to escape varying forms of toxic masculinity, and understanding that their queerness does not exclude them from manhood. Homogenizing two effeminate gay men and implying that one is “losing himself” to the idiosyncrasies of the other goes directly against this goal. In fact it actually perpetuates negative gay stereotypes, but I’ve made a video essay where I discuss that at length.
Edward writes and performs a song on deck when he wants to process and share his feelings openly. Not only is this waaay more emotional honesty than we ever see Stede express (on purpose at least), but this is a creative outlet unique to Ed. Theatrical story telling is an established motif in Ed’s character the same way literary storytelling is for Stede’s. Edward’s not only dealing with his hurt in a way Stede definitely wouldn’t (he didn’t, Stede went out of his way pretend everything was fine in episode 8), he’s also doing so through an established passion of his.
The Swede wasn’t full of shit when he said that performance can simply be an expression of you. This is not Ed trying to put on a new mask when the old one proved ineffective. This is him finding comfort and even joy in finally using performance to reveal himself instead of hide. I don’t understand why the credit for this beautiful moment of self discovery must be ripped from Ed and used to accuse Stede.
It’s the same with the “SiLk GoWn”. This is the same person who lovingly touches every piece of nice fabric he lays eyes on, and lit up like a fucking Christmas tree the second someone said the word “fashion.” Ed has had a deep love and longing for such a soft pretty thing since day 1. These were ingrained and suppressed in Ed all long before Stede came on the scene. That robe may literally belong to Stede, but just as he wore it as a sign of his newfound boldness under the safety of someone loving him for who he is, Ed’s choice to wear it symbolizes the blossoming autonomy of his own identity. To continue enjoying the things Stede made him feel safe enjoying even without his presence.
Now let’s move on (or backwards I guess?) to the academy. Something I’ve seen a lot is people decrying that Ed is sacrificing his authenticity to play a housewife for Stede. Guys… he just folded some socks, calm tf down. Saying something like this about a gay man just trying to do something small and sweet for someone he loves, again, really seems to perpetuate the toxic masculinity this show hauls ass to deconstruct. Yes the answer to toxic masculinity isn’t just “effeminacy is perfect and good”. But Ed can be genuinely content with finally being able to partake in the domesticity he never got to experience without perpetuating that.
And you know what, he can be unsure of the best way to fulfill that desire and change his mind. I don’t quite like the disregard for Ed’s autonomy when people say his decision to stay at the academy or find an escape is driven only by whatever he thinks Stede wants. He is taking Stede’s feelings into consideration because that is perfectly healthy when you love someone and want a life with them, but his choices are still absolutely driven by his own needs moment by moment too.
I think people really take Ed understandably not wanting to be subjugated by the British and run with it. Like yes he is visibly uncomfortable with the soldiers treating him like an exotic animal they’ve tamed because no shit. But I don’t know how many times Ed has to blatantly state he does not want to be a pirate anymore for it to be believed.
Edward is not an exception to this. Even if he managed to thrive emotionally in this line of work once upon a time and there are aspects of it he enjoys, Ed still became a pirate out of desperation. He didn’t choose it any more than Oluwande and Jim did, he was fleeing poverty and abuse.
It’s not that piracy is a net bad and that Ed should want to distance himself from it. It’s that he assumed piracy is the only option he’s ever had in life even when it hurts him, and the realization that he has the freedom to choose differently is empowering and a net good. Him wanting to run to China with Stede, or take the crew’s funky acts on the road, whether they’re practical or not (especially in this show) is beside the point. The point is Ed’s absolute unbridled joy in their possibilities, the pure delight in discovering that you are not chained to a series of decisions you made under extreme duress 30 years ago.

Have you picked up and read the recent WoD 5th edition books, like blood strained love? How is this edition stacking up as they slowly add more splats? Are there any future releases you're interested in? Are there more things you'd like to see from WoD 5e that they don't have right now? Personally I feel like the concept of the loresheets was fun and interesting, but the application has been really uneven and disappointing. I'd want more clan specific sheets for some of the clans that haven't gotten as much love (like I believe there is only 1 Lasombra specific loresheet and nothing for the Tzimisce?) I'd also love to see more By Night books, especially examining places outside of the USA
I've been picking up most of the Renegade books, yes! I like V5, despite its rough start, and Renegade have chosen a middle path between the density of OPP and the aesthetic of the old ParaWW team. They're very game focused books, which I appreciate, not being an enthusiast of "lore for lore's sake" (even typing the word makes my stomach turn over).
It's nice to have a turn away from splatbooks and into transformative supplements. IF you want a dark romantic story, THEN add Blood Stained Love. IF you want overt sectarian conflict in an action thriller, THEN add Gehenna War. It's more useful as an approach than piling more into the core.
I do think they're less substantial than they could be. Blood Stained Love didn't do enough groundwork on establishing the legitimacy of romance stories and, as a result, a lot of the groggier players I know dismissed it as "not for a serious chronicle." Blood Sigils felt like a breathless gush, a glut of new powers with a context sort of folded around it. I know @friends-of-beetlejuice is way more into Alchemy than I am and found a lot of the new background on that very brain chewy, and I took more of an interest when the koldun bug got to me. They feel like what they are: optional extras for people who want more or one specific thing, not must haves to complete the One True "Canon" World of Darkness (there it goes again, bad tum! bad!)
I'm quite interested in Gehenna War, that's a chance to revisit the 1990s vibe. I'm not as interested in Crimson Gutter for myself, but I think it's exactly what the game needs right now: premade, metaplot light material to get new players and STs up and running.
As for future releases, someone badly needs to give the Tzimisce the same treatment the Hecata got: collate the ideas, work them over, rationalise the concept and build some out into Loresheets. Vicissitude is too long and fussy as a power, it needs tearing down and a lighter touch taking. A European City By Night book with a long Tzimisce chapter or two would be perfect as a vehicle for that. I'd rather see Onyx Path do it – I've ragged on Dawkins as a developer, but this is the kind of thing he was born to do, and the substance-over-style approach is what's needed here.
Generally I don't rate the By Nights – too many of them are metaplot vectors that don't care to make space for play – but the slower, colder, older, conflicts of the settled and less gun-happy European Kindred need a showcase, and another Chicago-tier book would do it.

West Out of Yu Men/Parallel World Review
Bc I just finished watching it yesterday!
I really liked it :D
I think it had a very unique aesthetic. It's set in the desert or in cities located near the desert for the most part, and you really feel it. The characters don't always look like they're hot, but there's always a dry, gritty feeling to the air. The fashion, tooo, was pretty unique. Ye Liuxi is very rough and tumble action girl with a little bit of sexy thrown in; Chang Dong mostly dresses kind of generic, practical and understated; Ding Liu dresses kind of cutesy-garish, loosening up both in attitude and in fashion as the show progresses; and then everyone in the parallel world dresses like they're in some historical fantasy with a touch of apocalyptic. So that's all just fun to watch. I love when a show has a unique visual feel to it.
In terms of plot, the show is a little wandering and not super tight, but that makes sense for a show about two characters both investigating a mystery and traveling through a different world. It's about discovery, meeting people and seeing wonders--eventually with some political intrigue as well. I honestly wish it could have been a little longer. Give it another five episodes, and I think we could have tied up some loose ends and gotten a more satisfying ending for a couple characters (specifically I'm thinking of Gao Shen and Jiang Zhan, but even Liuxi... well, I could watch several hours more of just Liuxi lols).
The acting was all pretty good. I have to admit I was not equally invested in all characters. This is definitely the Ye Liuxi show. Everyone else can be as cool and complex as they want, but we're all here to watch Ni Ni beat people up, open up portals, drive through the desert, cut melons, flirt obnoxiously, make threats, and so on and so forth. Previously I had only seen Ni Ni in The Rise of Phoenixes, and she's good in that but more of a trickster character, clever but not exactly intimidating. I love seeing an actress in a role where she's really allowed to dominate everyone around her, and I hadn't known Ni Ni would be so good at that. Now I want to finish watching The Rise of Phoenixes at some point but I don't know if I'll feel disappointed seeing her in a role that's less absolutely tyrannical.
The other lead actor is of course Bai Yu.
Tumblrites probably know him as Guardian's Zhao Yunlan, which is also where I first saw him. In this show he's much more subdued and serious, which I think is necessary to counter such a powerful presence as Ni Ni's Liuxi. He and Ni Ni have great chemistry. It's less sexy and flirty, and more familiar and comfortable, though slow-won. There's one scene where Liuxi pokes a brooding Chang Dong with a stick until he takes the end of it, and when he lets go of it she pokes him until he holds it again, and they just sit together in silence. For me, that's kind of what their relationship is about. They understand each other and offer each other comfort and support. At the same time, they have a strong sense of physicality for a cdrama. Again, not necessarily in a sexual way, but Liuxi is the kind of person who will just drape herself on someone, hook an arm over their shoulder, rub legs like an obnoxious and kind of sexy cat... it adds to the warmth of their relationship. (Though I would also have been fine seeing the two remain platonic, but as ships go, it's rather nice.)
That said. This show also had a couple ships it did not need! Gao Shen/Ding Liu is okay but underdeveloped and kind of just background noise; Fei Tang/A He is where I enter "okay, so now you just need to pair up EVERYONE" territory. None of the ships were annoying exactly, but apart from Liuxi/Chang Dong, I just feel like you could have left them out and you wouldn't lose much. If you're going to include them, give them some damn development! That's all I can say on the matter.
I enjoyed the villains a lot. There's a variety here: Some typical shady bureaucrats, a scheming woman to serve as Liuxi's foil and rival, and a man from Liuxi's past who has a complicated relationship with her. My favorite was the last of these three, Jiang Zhan! And I won't give more spoilers than that but can I just say: Jiang Zhan deserved better!!! Will someone please write hurt-comfort fic for my boy!!
Anyway! I recommend West Out of Yu Men if:
-You like Ni Ni or Bai Yu and want to see them doing something a bit different.
-You would be interested in an atmosphere of urban fantasy meets desert epic.
-You want to see a woman playing the amnesiac "chosen one" warrior trope (and with flair).
-You like to see an ensemble go on a road trip, gathering members along the way and getting into magical shenanigans. (If you HATE road trips, though--not a reason to skip. Travel is an aspect but there's still plenty of plot to go around.)
-You want to see Ni Ni cut a melon with a big knife (you can get this in episode one. Just one episode to appreciate the glorious THUNK of a melon being cut with a large knife).
You can also watch it if you want to write fanfic for it to satisfy my current cravings for 1) femslash and 2) anything about Jiang Zhan. (I haven't talked about the possible femslash ships bc they are pretty much my imagination but Ding Liu is very cutesy and friendly with Liuxi and also that female villain I was talking about above HATES Liuxi in a way that is quite fun, so. There's that.)
Now I have to find another badass woman show to satisfy that particular mood. If you have any recs along those lines, let me know ;)

Thoughts:
Watched A Charlie Brown Christmas for the first time in decades over the holiday and it's... fine? I think it's something I respect more than enjoy. There are specific moments that I like and certain artistic decisions that I think work phenomenally (the jazz soundtrack, for example). I even like the message despite not being in any way religious.
But man, it's kind of a mess. I was constantly distracted by awkward cuts, animation errors, weird line readings, and all kinds of other issues. Plus the whole “we need to get this Christmas play ready” plotine just kind of gets dropped at the end and that really bugged the hell out of me. I don't think that this is the animation team's fault, apparently they only had 6 months to write and animate the entire thing, but the lack of polish really shows and I wish they had just a bit more time to tighten things up. Then again, that same jankyness gives the special a certain human touch and charm which I suspect is a large part of why a lot of people still like it even today. So who knows if changing things would make it more enjoyable.
Overall I think this special still ~mostly~ holds up, even if it's not my favorite piece of animated Peanuts media. It's over before you have time to get mad at the parts that don't work and at the end of the day when the kids decorate the tree and start singing I felt the feelings it wanted me to feel. And really, that's all it needed to do.
Soooo... I guess keep this one in mind for when you're looking for something to get you in the Christmas mood in like... 11 months? (Yeah, I really should have watched this thing earlier so I could post this before New Years. Oh well.)

I love fashion and just putting characters in funky clothes is very fun to me ✨️ I try to aim for dynamic shapes and distinctive features or patterns that fit the character (like solar I fill him with stars and his main aesthetic in my mind is star y2k and streetwear+racing jackets)
As for markers they're alcohol markers yes but they're some type of off brand copics or sumn they're not ohuhu either . I just go around in stores and buy a mix of brands but they're fine to me .
And I use a lot of white /gold / silver /pink gel pens (Sakura) to touch up stuff and make some details . The gel pens are a saviour ✨️I highly recommend .
And yes you should absolutely start drawing on paper it's very refreshing, since I've had a hard time picking up my drawing tablet and working digitally so I've switched to traditional for now. to get back into the stream of stuff 🌙 it really really helps 🩷🎀

As someone that knew NO other lesbian people, and identities as a Fem lesbian, it was so nice to see your ex’s content about how Butches protect their Fems. and how committed they were to this seemingly healthy and proactive butch lifestyle. but to them see them post about how they were on the prowl not long after your break up and also to see how many girls they are going through and how their new meaning of being butch is to explore and love themsleves highly and ‘the most’ is so sick and weird?? (always love yourself but through recent events we can see that this is in a VERY narcissistic way) they clearly don’t understand the meaning behind butch and fems and they clearly use everything for an aesthetic or a label to hide behind.
I also had an ex that identified with Shane from the L word,
that’s why they’re my ex.
They were very vocal about butch/femme dynamics online and treating their femme like a princess but did the complete opposite in literally every regard in real life. Completely disregarded boundaries, etc.
I was not allowed to be friends with masc lesbians regardless of if I was friends with them prior to dating this person, and in some fucked up way, they actually managed to use their identity as butch as a form of weaponized incompetence that resulted in me doing literally everything around the house on my own!
It’s really frustrating that this person uses these labels for their own personal gain and is this awful blatant misogynist.. it really makes it harder for not just lesbians, but specifically masc/gnc lesbians because there’s already so much stigma around them.
And yes, I felt incredibly disrespected after the breakup. They were flirting with some of my own fans as well. They tried to paint me as shallow or using them as an “accessory” for my social media (typical.. calling a woman shallow for having social media!) but would be the one begging me to post them because they felt like I “didn’t love them” if I didn’t do it frequently.. on my professional music page. I can’t recall a single time I’ve ever treated a human being as an accessory for social media.. lol.
Very out of touch individual and I’m sorry you also experienced this.
And yes.. anyone who desperately wants to be Shane is an instant red flag. I remember thinking it was strange how much they idolized her.. now it’s glaringly obvious why.

Hello!! Really love all your fics I've read, especially with all the ace rep you do! As a demi reader, it's really nice tbh. Do you have definite head canons on their sexualities and identities you tend to stick to for the cast, or does it kind of vary based on what kind of fic you're writing and/or mood?

it does vary on the fic and/or my mood!
for vash, he's always ace, so it's how he feels about sex that varies. I started off being Very Sure that he was either sex-averse or sex-averse bordering on sex-neutral, being ok with partaking in sex as long as it's not made about him. I still think either of those is my favorite version, but I have two wips in which he's sex-neutral and having sex for the fun and/or intimacy of it, and that's always how I interpret spicy art of him, but it's really growing on me as something to write too. in any case, I couldn't see him as ever experiencing sexual attraction in my writing. but a whole lot of aesthetic and sensual attraction? yes. He Needs To Touch and Be Touched. (sexually included when I don't write him as sex-averse :p but yeah I see it more as the craving for touch and intimacy than the need for sex specifically)
for wolfwood, it really depends. I started off only writing him as allo because I've written sooo many ace4ace relationships, and I wanted to write positive allo/ace rep. but same, in my latest wips (and that one short fic for ace trigun week) he's demi or greyace. either way, I always headcanon him as being pretty sex-neutral without, like Vash, a particular need to have sex very often. like even when written as allo, he can do without, it's no biggie. but also! I could totally see him being demi or greyace and sex-averse. it's just not something I've had the occasion to explore. and of course I often see him as pretty touch-starved as well—the difference with vash being that wolfwood isn't aware of it (or acknowledging it to himself) until vash touches him and sets it off. (something I'd like to explore with him in one of my wips is being touch-starved and touch-averse at the same time, but I'll see)

Do all nightfolk share a religion? Are there any religions that are "false", or are there any gods nobody believes in? Does their popularity affect them?
there's no one overarching religion; there's many, many, and all are centered around the outer gods with few minor. there are a near countless amount of gods that have either been forgotten (both hydre and nocturne fall into this category) or 'killed' by other gods, fate-touched heroes, eaten by the worldeater or the thousand-head hydra. nightfolk tend to believe in their own gods, but there are some who believe in others outside of them - abrahamic gods, japanese spirits, african gods and spirits, native american, etc; there's always cultural mixing, of course! - though this is a much, much rarer occurrance and it's not so much about belief as it is that nightfolk gods are, well, nightfolk gods.
they don't really...name? their religions? they name everything else though. but, for example, nightfolk who worship sanguinach the bloodweaver are called sanguinarians (clerics from certain healing houses are also commonly referred to as bloodweavers). nightfolk who worship mausza and the sightless eye are referred to as oracles or fateweavers colloquially, even though both titles are specific to the upper ranks of their clergy. worshippers of spira thornis are simply referred to as thornisians or thornisian hexbreakers (which is a bit redundant since spira thornis is the hexbreaker; nightfolk legitimately do not care). anyone involved with artyr myrdin is referred to as a member of the 'circle'. followers of the face-eater are either hunters, shifters, or weres, and don't call themselves by any special names.
now, i'll say this: if you've noticed, in all my character bios, effectively all my muses hate sanguinarians. they're largely zealots, tend to believe explicitly in vampire supremacy as sanguinach and the nightfather intended, are extremely violent, lots of terrorism and human sacrifice going on there, orgies - it's all very culty. there are regular people who happen to worship sanguinach but are primarily and strictly healers, separating religion from practice and are, y'know, normies about things (some people do adhere to their oaths).
i got off track--
as far as popularity goes - yes and no. it's not so much about popularity or anything like that, but purpose and results. most adherents get some kind of blessing or curse, depending on denomination - but because there are tangible results to their efforts and tenets, rewards even, it's much easier for them to choose who to worship and commit. of course, often times, that's what grandma and dad were, may as well be too - kind of a lot of that actually. some indoctrination, brainwashing even. no one's hands are clean. most try to pick the lesser evil because there aren't really any good options for them, in terms of religion. worshipping the face-eater sounds nice until you (seemingly) randomly fly into a monstrous rage, hunting and killing anything in your path. worshipping sanguinach sounds cool until you're releasing a herd of blackwyrms into a crowd and watching as children get torn to shreds, mhmm. worshipping mausza and the sightless eye's all starry and aesthetic, until you are quite literally silenced, spiritually shackled, and forced to fulfill their wills or risk watching everything and everyone you ever loved die in some fashion.
they're all generally high risk, high reward types, the main six outer gods? yep. most certainly once mages, all of them. absolute pains in the ass-
well, wait. so the whole outer gods thing is in itself a religion, i suppose. i guess there is sort of a framework there, it's kind of like mmm s.kyrim, now that i think on it.

What are three shows in your watchlist that you’ve been meaning to get to?
Funny that I come to this while I have my watchlist up! The first one on my list is finishing season 1 of UFOs. Besides that, probably just some of the many lecture series I have saved on Kanopy. I watched a few episodes about one on beer, and I watched one about violence in religion, and both of those seem interesting to pursue.
8. Do you collect anything? If so, what?
I collect pins! I have so many cute ones, and I'm always looking for more. Sometimes they add just the right touch to an outfit. I also have some rare pins, like a limited edition run of pins from a porn parody of Zootopia. (Yes, I occasionally shop at Bad Dragon.)
10. What’s your favorite kind of uquiz question? (Lyric, color, aesthetic, etc)
I'm just happy to be included. <3 But seriously, I really don't know. I guess my favorite kind is the unexpected/unusual one. So I guess none of the ones that fit the suggested ones?
14. What are some places where you feel most at home?
Primarily my condo, but also just the city where I live in general. I could have moved closer to my job, but I really didn't want to leave where I'm at, certainly not for something as fleeting as a job can be. I've been living in this area on and off for nearly 20 years now, and I can't really imagine living anywhere else right now. It's one of the most frustrating things about living in the southern US: it's actually very nice here except for the loud bigots hurting others and generally being awful and embarrassing.
26. Can you cook or bake? If so, what are some of your specialties?
The embarrassing thing for me is I went to culinary school specifically for baking, but I'm woefully out of practice. Some of that is not having to do it for a job anymore, and some of it is my disability making it difficult to do what I need to do for it. But I can bake a cake or cook a nice dinner with no problem. I like making what I call Lazy Wedding Cake, which is a traditional white cake with almond flavor and a cream cheese icing. The "lazy" part is that I just make it a sheet cake, no decorations or tiers, just a nice but simple cake.
33. Headphones or earbuds?
Headphones all the way. Earbuds hurt my ears. I mean, headphones do, too, but they do it less.
35. Describe your favorite stuffed animal, either now or from when you were a kid.
My favorite is a little anteater plush I got from the Memphis Zoo! We went there a few years back for my sibling's birthday, and I got it as a souvenir.
49. What’s your favorite thing to do when it’s raining?
This one I already answered, but to sum up: pajama day, comfort foods, and scary movies.
50. Describe your perfect sleeping conditions
It is nice and early for bed, it is cool enough that I can use my big soft comforter, the door is open so the cat can come and go as he pleases, I have no obligations the next morning, and it is softly raining.

Everything about Eol and Aredhel and Maeglin were lazy biased incorrect writing from Gondolin survivors crushed by sorrow and guilt and hate.

Eol and Aredhel should never get married though. They had fucking different political views. Probably got married because they looked at each other and went “Oh how exotic,” then just jumped straight into the pit to suffer together.

— SLEEP HABITS
NAME: Orianna
RESIDENCE: Firstly, there's the manor in Baldur's Gate, secondly, the library also in Baldur's Gate, third, her home in the cursed-ass forest, and she guesses that wherever the party's camping currently counts. She also definitely still has her childhood room in Malsheem.
TYPE OF BED: Envision clawfoot 4-poster probably in a non-traditional shape that helps support the wings ( bc lbr, that's gotta be awkward to contend with when laying down ) and also bc that's some rich person bullshit, furs, silk sheets. Whole nine yards of the most luxurious shit. Of course, while camping, a more traditional bedroll plus a few furs and a portion of Zaibis is all she really uses
NUMBER OF BLANKETS: Let's be quite frank here: she has a lot of blankets, and none of them are for utility, as the only times she's ever been somewhat chilled in her life have been in the frozen layers of the Hells. Some of them are for the aesthetic, some for making a comfortable resting place for limbs, some just because they're nice to touch. Her bed is like a veritable bird's nest of blankets.
NUMBER OF PILLOWS: Ironically, only one; the deficits are made up by creature or blanket.
TYPE OF CLOTHING: If we're talking sleep clothes, I don't think she really subscribes to the notion so much as her comfy, 'I'm not going out and I'm most assuredly not entertaining anyone' clothes, which are simple but pretty dresses, often made of silk, sometimes linen. Otherwise, when not travelling, she takes after daddy dearest and wears clothing so expensive it'll make your eyes bleed. While travelling, it's still expensive and elaborate, but far more attainably so, and typically the sort of robes one would expect of a spellcaster.
DO THEY SLEEP WITH COMPANY?: Hard no. Plausibly bc she's got severe trust issues from the last person she was close enough to to allow that, but also specifically bc she tends to try to avoid letting anyone that close. So it's entirely possible that it changes if she actually bonds with someone enough; it largely depends on what her partner's comfortable with, bc Ori tends towards that cat quality time; she doesn't necessarily have to be close or touching for it to be magical spending time with a loved one.
DO THEY SLEEP BETTER WITH COMPANY?: I mean.... Considering she doesn't actually require sleep, no? But assuming we're talking about the resting ( the sort of lounging about, chilling, that we all wish counted as sleep ) she does actually do.... I'm going to say yes actually. She lowkey really enjoys that good good physical contact ngl -- even if she doesn't necessarily seek it out.
DOES IT MATTER WHERE THEY SLEEP?: As long as she's comfortable, not really -- but again, she's got the privilege of getting to chill instead of go through the REM cycles so like??? It's cheating, is what I'm getting at
WHAT DO THEY DO IF THEY CANNOT FALL ASLEEP?: Not terribly applicable, so we're talking about what she does during her downtime instead. Which is read, primarily. Mostly non-fiction things about the arcane as one might guess, although tbh she's easily content with anything she can get her hands on. She might tear it apart, so to speak, but. All literature can be good literature, even if your only enjoyment from it is making fun of how bad it is. Other times, if the mood strikes, she draws or paints. Her works tend to be really abstract, but surprisingly easy to make sense of if you've the capacity to see into her mind or have a familiarity with the inner workings of the weave, Infernal magic, as they're the beginnings of spells. Sometimes, though, she'll also paint landscapes or creatures. Very rarely does she draw people.
FREQUENT DREAMS, NIGHTMARES: She doesn't really experience these except for those induced by the dream guardian. ( As a sidebar to make this more than one little statement, I imagine that on the nights they're visited by the guardian, she falls asleep while reading and dreams like the others. )
DEEP SLUMBER OR NAPS: Since she does actually have the ability to sleep if she wishes, we'll go with naps bc sometimes it's nice to lay next to someone and share unconsciousness with them for awhile. Sometimes.
WHEN DO THEY SLEEP: Resting she does really any time she begins to feel fatigued. Actual sleeping, though? Only when it's for bonding purposes, or the general vibe is fuck being aware right now.
WHAT COULD WAKE THEM UP: Looking at her wrong. I am not exaggerating with this; she's an extremely light sleeper when she actually does.
EARLY OR LATE RISER: So like even if she did have to sleep, she'd be one of those early riser sorts. Lots to do, after all, and tbh she likes watching the changes of the sky.

Important History
bitter is the taste vidia leaves on the tip of anyone’s tongue after speaking to her. it’s clear she has a chip on her shoulder and does absolutely nothing to fix it
at her core, vidia truly believes she is better than everyone else all stemming from the fact she was one of the rarest kinds of fairy in pixie hollow and therefore felt she deserved some recognition for it
these days, she doesn’t remember the specific detail of being a rare fairy as much but she remembers the feeling of being worth more than most and it drives her core
when talia and the other fairies disappeared, leaving vidia behind ( which she hasn’t forgotten ) she had a decision of never trying to figure out what happened or....find them
looking for the other fairies was one of, if not the most, unselfish thing she had ever done and it solidified the truth she’d been trying most to hide - she actually cared
getting trapped in evermore proved she shouldn’t have and no she hasn’t entirely let that go
sarcasm is vidia’s first choice when it comes to being rude and mean to people followed closely by her ability to be completely blunt
flying is everything to vidia. yes, she can fly supersonically fast and as such, is one of the more rare fairies, but that wasn’t enough for her
once she was trapped in evermore, she took an interest in learning how to fly the boring way - in a plane - and quickly enrolled in school for it
reiterating that vidia is not a nice person. in every situation, she will pick herself first especially because the one time she chose anyone else it backfired so badly
she is slowly learning that having friends isn’t a bad thing and as such is a hardcore bitch with less people. she will still be a bitch, don’t get me wrong, but will also have moments of caring
the walls around her are hard to get over since they’re lined with barbed wire in the form of her words and looks but once you make it over, she will actually care
does date around and has a few exes but it often doesn’t last too long because...well, everything above and she’s convinced that her high standards for herself will most likely mean she ends up alone
is extremely competitive in almost every situation even when she doesn’t have any competition - she will create competition

asexuality. what is that nonsense. i will call myself asexual, but is that the truth? how broad of a label for the nuanced thoughts and experiences i am in possession of.
once again, brought back to the dumpster fire that are labels. can’t stand ‘em. but we need them. i don’t want them! agh!
everyone has their own opinion on what counts as asexual though. how terrible. some even deny that it means queer. even worse. is there any sort of validation? sorry, no.
so, have you experienced sexual attraction?
no. i mean, probably not. i don’t think so. damn.
allow me to explain, please. not once have i ever looked at someone and thought: “yes, that person is attractive in the way that makes me want to have sex with them.” no, that has never occurred.
so, have you ever desired sex?
yes, but not until relatively recently. does that disqualify my asexuality?
once again, allow me to elaborate. i never thought i would be able to be comfortable enough with a person to be sexually intimate with them. i thought there was nothing someone else could do for me in that way that i couldn’t do for myself. however, it appears i have been proven wrong.
you see, my dear, sweet, wonderful partner seems to have changed my view on all things sexual and intimate, not that i had much of a view previously. and it’s great, because he’s asexual too!

no, please. you’ve got this all wrong. his experience is almost the exact same as mine. the fact that we were able to successfully navigate intimacy for the first time in a way we were both comfortable with is probably a miracle. you really don’t understand.
physical closeness with him led to more sexual-ish intimacy, which eventually led to actually sexual intimacy. it was a progression! being asexual doesn’t mean sex can’t feel good!

listen. i am quite confident that if i attempted to have sex with anyone else, who i didn’t have the same connection i have with my partner, sex would be weird and uncomfortable and bad. sex without an emotional connection is worthless. plus, i don’t think that i’m sexually attracted to my partner in a conventional way. i wasn’t even aesthetically attracted to him for the majority of the time i knew him prior to dating. is that mean to say?
how can you have enjoyable sex with someone you’re not sexually attracted to then?
i am attracted to him in many ways. emotionally, romantically, aesthetically (more now), physically (non-sexual, just like to touch), etc. and the enjoyment from sex feeds off of those types of attraction. i am not repulsed by sex, like some people who are asexual. this does lead to question if i am actually experiencing sexual attraction sometimes, but i don’t think i am. and i never desired actual sex with another person until i had sex with my partner, and even now that desire is only projected onto him.
you don’t really sound like you’re fully asexual. you could probably define yourself as something more specific that describes your identity better.
yeah, see, that’s the thing. i’d really rather not. sometimes i think that comes from internalized queer-phobia at hyper-specific labels and how society as a whole views those. that very well could be a part of it. but it also just seems like so much effort and self analysis. which is ironic, as i love to self analyze. however, just because i may not fit your specific idea of asexual, does not mean i don’t fit on the spectrum. i am for sure sex positive, maybe i am demisexual, or graysexual, or whatever else. but i do not owe it to anyone to define myself in such a particular way that it makes them more comfortable in how to view the validity of my identity. i will likely continue to say asexual, because to me it encompasses the asexual spectrum, which is pretty vast. and then again, the asexuality is only part of it. i am queer for being asexual, and a big fuck you to anyone who says otherwise, but i would also date anyone of any gender, not that that should be a deciding factor for anyone to determine the validity of my queerness.
