Tolkien’s subtle connections between LOTR and The Silmarillion are just glorious to discover. Like the reason Gollum hates sunlight and moonlight is the same reason the Nazgûl get scared off when Frodo calls out to Varda! Sauron, and thus his servants and his Ring that has completely corrupted Gollum’s soul, shares the absolute darkness of Melkor, who always hated and feared Varda because she is absolute light and thereby she created the Sun and Moon in defiance of that darkness… and she created them out of the last remaining light of the Two Trees which Melkor destroyed, so every time a piece of Melkor’s darkness comes into contact with the light of the Sun and Moon, it is reminded that Melkor did not destroy that light completely, that it lives on. Gollum can feel Varda’s creations forever clashing with what is indirectly Melkor’s creation.

Oh my gods oh my gods!!!
I was inspired by Davos from Game of Thrones talking about Shireen and I thought it fit for Aulè yelling at Melkor about Mairon/Sauron and about how Melkor "killed" Mairon and manipulated and killed his beloved Maiar to create Sauron.
It may go something like this!:
Aulè: "You killed Mairon!"
Melkor: "I did no such thing-"
Aulè: "I loved that boy... like he was my own... he was good, he was kind, and YOU KILLED HIM!"
. . .
Aulè mourned for Mairon the way a parent mourned for their child...

My favorite Morgoth moment is when the Great Enemy of Middle Earth got attacked by a big spider and shrieked so loudly all his balrogs heard from miles away and had to come rescue him. Damsel behavior

The Valar's mistake did not lie in seeing a possibility of good in Melkor. Rather, their mistake lay in not seeing the equal possibility of him remaining evil.

The Silmarillion fandom is collapsing.
Has anyone else noticed a lot of people leaving the silmarillion just general Tolkien fandom? Especially on tumblr. One of my favourite Silm blogs deleted their whole account and just disappeared. I’m seeing a lot of amazing creators put out their farewell statements. I absolutely don’t blame anyone who is choosing to leave and especially if it’s just because they’re not happy anymore or are moving on to other things. But I’m noticing that a lot of people are being very negative and some creators have explicitly stated that this has impacted them leaving and losing love and interest for something that once made them so happy because of all the negativity aimed at them. It’s so sad. Also wtf this is a hobby and some people are so demanding with creators like they’re not creating things unpaid and in their free time. Hating on people for what they love and find comfort in or calling them weird for liking and having different takes on certain FICTIONAL characters is disgusting and you’re absolutely the problem if you do that.
To any creators seeing this I just want you to know how much your work is and contribution is appreciated. Especially since it’s not that big of a fandom on here.

"And Melkor entered his realm. And the Dark bowed before its Lord, and came apart in the light of Silmarilli. The creatures of the night prostrated themselves on the ground in hopes that they would be spared and his heavy gaze wouldn’t fall on them. Sauron bowed low, pinned down by the terror that like a cape was draped over the Fallen Vala. He relinquished all the power he held in his absence and laid it for him, as a servant must." Sauron is named Melkor's greatest and most trusted servant, but why are we all ignoring Gothmog's accomplishments on Melkor's behalf??? Let's take a look at his most notable deeds:
-Killed Fëanor
-Killed Fingon
-Killed Ecthelion
-Captured Húrin
-Saved Melkor's ass during the whole Ungoliant incident
-Successfully led the assault upon Gondolin
Meanwhile Sauron captured Tol Sirion only to lose it to a girl and her dog.
Gothmog was literally 99% of Angband's power and he's NOT getting enough credit.
