mean ( bratty?? ) buff bro-dude sub x dom m reader
thisbguy,, hes a lil gross,,
Tumblr media
from the very beginning when you met through friends, he would constantly make fun of you for simple things. like, normal things. for example..;; "you cut ur sandwiches into triangles? what're you, a.. a kid?" notably stalling as he tries to insult you which you surprisingly don't comment on,, instead, you keep quiet after giving him a dirty look which he quickly returns! him being cruel to you in general is a distinct mechanism that he puts up when interacting with you specifically ㅡ maybe he's just intimidated or something along those lines? who else can make him moan like a girl while edging his fat length along ur shirt he stole and squirm as he begs into his pillow to be allowed to cum besides you afterall??
or, it's something completely different?? a boy who's a little uncertain on how to handle his feelings on you being told 'don't be a pussy', he was already having a hard time dealing with bullying from his within group of friends dubbed "the boys" as were any other group, so he moves onto unusual methods.. being a little mean.. seeing as it originally didn't get any reaction at first, he tries to go further, stealing and dirtying your things with his cum or spit or merely his scent just to have it in ur room because hes honestly a fucking weirdo
and when you confront him about such things,, all came out after he had insulted you about how the way you were merely watching TV, trying to ignore the problemㅡ "what is your problem with me?" you hissed spitefully, jumping up from your sitting position just to stand stiffly as if you were about to throw yourself at him like a rabid animal .. "all you ever do is make fun of me and be a fucking weirdo! i have no idea what i did to you - do you just not like me??" why would he leave cum-stained underwear ontop of ur freshly cleaned laundry if that were the case? :( how could you not get that he was so in love with you,,
"if that's the case, why are you constantly over hereㅡ?!" you continue your rant as you ever so slowly edge closer, your voice raising higher in pitch, before glancing down andㅡ"don't look-!"He had cried, and obviously you fucking looked. he had a tent pitched in his gym shorts - that he quickly covers with his handsㅡ
'y-you fucking.. ..' he swallowed his words, ( unable to bring himself to insult you / keep up the facade with you staring at him like that..) eyes glazed over as he stares into yours that were narrowed with a sort've gentleness to them despite your aggression the second before.. he ultimately cant hide behind his insults, the soft graze of your fingertips along his naked muscular thighs were too much,, ever so slowly raking your nails into his squishy skin,, god hes so happy. so so so happy - finally, he can be touched like this by you. god the fact nearly makes him cum on the spotㅡ already having ruined several of his socks as well as some of your articles of clothing that he's proudly stole..
so you take edging him and overstimulation as a whole;; a means to get back at him for all of his cruel and unnecessary "bullying" and leaving his disgusting mess in your room! forcing him to clean it up himself - while you watched, he begged you to,,
ㅡit was completely uncalled for afterall! which you were reprimanding him for as you twist your pumping fist along his bright red trickling tip, leaving him squirming and jerking his legs around as he grips thr bedsheets or whatever he's underㅡwhile he whines and squeals on how he'll be so much better even if you don't allow him to cum.. so sweet, so suddenly?? "a-a boyfriend th-haa-at will never ever be mean to you everr agaainn!!" as he put it..
you constantly call him a creep to get back at him now that you know how much of an actual freak he is... and he'd argue he's just a guy whos virtually very eager to impress you who came about it all wrong! which isn't far from the truth. he likes,, to impress you.. like bro, this random guy pissed you off ?? look at this picture of him beaten beyond help and recognition.,, "he won't bother you ever again, bro. No worries, no need to thank me..." while his face is smug and grinning widely - obviously hoping for some kind of reward for his "virtuous" deed,,

Zutara Ship Baiting Moments
Before I start listing off the scenes I need to explain this: The scenes are coded as romantic, they're not explicitly romantic. I'm not saying Zuko and Katara were canonically in love with each other, I'm saying some scenes ended up tropy with romantic undertones.
THE WATERBENDING SCROLL:
Tumblr media
"I'll save you from the pirates".
Yeah he's threatening her, but what is this line? Why did he grab her hands while saying that? Why did he get so close to her, even after she was tied? Why wrapping his hand around her? All of this is extra work to the animators. He could have just dangled it in front of her, but instead we got a typical enemies to lovers moment.
THE SIEGE OF THE NORTH PART 1:
Tumblr media
(1th) "Well, aren't you a big girl now".
(2th) "You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun".
Once again he says these lines, that are completely unnecessary, shippy, enemies to lovers. Why? What is it doing here?
THE CROSSROADS OF DESTINY:
Tumblr media
The soft yet exciting music, the shinning crystals, Katara's hand on Zuko's thumb, all speak for themselves. Katara absolutly didn't have to touch Zuko's face like this, they get interrupted. And when she heals she puts the water on the spot, so I'd make sense if they got interrupted. But they didn't, and she didn't even took out the water. Then it won't be shippy.
THE SOUTHERN RAIDERS:
Tumblr media
This is a perfect example of the "Suggestive Collision" trope. An actual romance trope. And then, of course, the "Please Get Off Me" trope. They're used to create romantic tension. Whyyyyyy?
EMBER ISLAND PLAYERS:
Tumblr media
Aang is about to sit next to Katara, and then Zuko steals his seat. Katara notices, tucks her hair behind her hair and gives Zuko a glance. Why do that? Why do something that really looks like it's foreshadowing a love triangle? Why do that when it goes by so fast and does nothing? Why animating this? Why writing this?
SOZIN'S COMET PART 2:
Tumblr media
"She's not my girlfriend"!
Another typical romance trope, the "She Is Not My Girlfriend". Used for romantic leads/ eventual romantic leads.
SOZIN'S COMET PART 4:
What else can I say about this scene? It's very obviously ship baiting. But if you don't think it is, here's a video taken from here with Sokka inserted there. What a beautiful comclusion to a beautiful relationship.

Genuine question but if elain and azriel weren’t going to have some romantic relationship, why did SJM even write that first half of the bonus chapter? Elucien are already mates, she could’ve written a scene with them or not mentioned azriel and elain at all.
I’m not saying that gwynriel half of the bonus chapter was meaningless, they DID have good banter and the language used was eyebrow-raising at the very least, like something is def hinted there but I’m just confused about it. Like if she’s going in gwynriel direction, she could’ve JUST written the second half of the scene. We didn’t even KNOW elain and azriel were interacting before. Like why write a scene with Az + elain and then wreck them in the same chapter?
It’s so weird?? It could’ve easily been a set up for elucien and gwynriel but now it looks more like she was setting up for a love triangle between Az Gwyn and Elain.
I don’t know what to make of this 🤷🏻‍♀️ it just felt unnecessary lol bc if the next book IS azriel, I really don’t think she is going to have him move on from Mor to Elain, then Elain to Gwyn over the course of one chapter that didn’t even make it in the book?
It makes me so annoyed to think about that stupid BC. She should’ve never released it bc whether it’s gwynriel or elriel, that bonus chapter doesn’t make sense.
Like yeah yeah, we see how toxic elriel could’ve been and we see how they would never work - but like… tbh I didn’t think anything was happening between elain and azriel UNTIL the bonus chapter. I literally read that and was like HUH when did they—??? And then he was like “this was a mistake” and they went their separate ways and he ended the chapter with Gwyn. If SJM is going for Gwynriel endgame, it would’ve been so much better if she just didn’t even include the first part of the bonus chapter?? And vice versa.
If she hadn’t written the first part, I wouldn’t think elriel was a thing. If she hadn’t written the second part I wouldn’t think gwynriel was a thing.
I don’t think she did it just for drama either so I literally dunno what purpose it serves.
Hey!! That’s a great question, let me dive into it…
I think the bonus chapter has three parts, one with Elain, one with Rhys, one with Gwyn, not only to cement Gwynriel but also to give an end to Elriel. This also while deep diving into Azriel’s thoughts and motivations.
I for one, never really considered Elriel as strongly as their shippers do, but I could tell there was something going on there, in Acowar we got some winks at Elain being comfortable with Azriel (even if kind of in a childish, innocent way) and in Acofas we got the beginning of them acting awkward with eachother, Elain showing Azriel her plans etc, I remember thinking it was at best cute and Elain obviously had a crush on Az (but he was still pretty much still hung up with Mor and she was still mourning her fiance). When I read the BC I was so shocked and uncomfortable with Azriel’s purely sexual thoughts about Elain, it was deliberate, to show the reader Azriel is probably confusing lust with romantic feelings. That’s I think why you say the BC was the first time you saw them as a couple, but this shock to me was more in the way Azriel himself actually viewed Elain, until then we all at least agreed it was in a more tender way, and this was absolutely crushed with his pov (and we actually see this tenderness in the way he thinks about Gwyn instead).
Now to your main question: Why add Elain in his chapter? And to that we first need to answer why SJM wrote Elriel at all.
As an Elucien I can’t come here and say Elriel never existed because it did, but the reason SJM wrote it is not to lead them as endgame, but to add layers and tension to these characters. Firstly, Elriel for me was there to add some will-they-won’t-they to Elucien’s mating bond. Look, with no other couple did we have a mating bond snapped and proclaimed even before the two characters even spoke to each-other. This the first time we have this scenario, and things need to go one way for the tension to be there.
If Elain was just mourning Graysen (which relationship was ended in the same book Elucien gained traction) then it would have been too given that they would inevitably find their way to eachother. So she adds Azriel to the mix, who at that point had only ever been interested in Mor for 500 years, with absolutely zero possibility of her ever mirroring his interest. It just makes sense for his character to also find that fixation on Elain, another unattainable female. This was another way Azriel continued his self sabotage behavior, and so we had the first real stepping stone into what his character arc will be when he gets his book.
But we can agree Elriel started (to act as a red herring for Elucien, add character tension, give Az an arc), gained traction in Acofas, and when Sarah introduced us to Gwyn and had the realization she was perfect for Azriel, she had to close the Elriel thread. So here comes the BC.
As readers we needed to see with our own eyes why exactly these two characters weren’t good together, just like she did this with Tamlin in a more dramatic way before Feyre could see Rhys in a romantic way, Sarah gave us all the clues in the way Azriel thought about Elain hyper sexually, how he called their encounter a mistake, how he focused too much in her mating bond, even in ACOSF we got winks of him limiting Elain when she clearly wanted to help, because she should not be exposed to darkness. Then comes Rhys, asking Azriel the questions we as readers were asking him: what about Mor? No answer. Do you think you deserve Elain? Diverting the answer to say Lucien doesn’t (showing us his possible insecurity towards him). And then we have the Gwyn part, in which we see Azriel’s character actually shine, even if he still can’t see this is actually the way, not the doomed self sabotage relationship he was entertaining with Elain.
Tumblr media
The thing is it IS a set up for Elucien and Gwynriel:
Elucien: Lucien was there in the same house when the almost kiss happened, this is a calculated thing, the chapter could have happened a day after and it would have worked perfectly, but no, Lucien was there too. Something tells me Lucien knows what transpired, he probably could feel it, hear it, smell it or at least have some perception of it. And this just adds more angst to what Elain and him are going to go through.
Gwynriel: the obvious banter, exact opposite of Azriel’s and Elain’s interaction (for the better), and the hints of their potential mating bond.
To sum it up, Elriel was a thing before the bonus chapter, thats for sure, but Sarah needed to end it before she could continue, however small and insignificant their relationship actually was. And I don’t agree that this set up a love triangle between Elain/Az/Gwyn, when Azriel said “this was a mistake” Sarah ended any possibility of that, Elain gave him back the necklace she was at first eager to receive, Lucien was there and probably knows something happened, Azriel thought he had been right to stay away, and it ended with him thinking about Gwyn’s glowing eyes and smiling about her.
I hope this answers your question, I actually think the bonus chapter was masterfully written to tell us everything we need to know about what was actually happening inside Azriels head, and give us a hint of his future and the future of the other characters.
If she hadn’t written the first part, then we could’ve never gotten those rich pieces of information into Azriel’s trauma, red flags, jealousy and thought process that will play a part in his own book (because they’re far from resolved). By having both we could see how Elain brings up the worse in him, while Gwyn calms the restlessness inside of him instantly.

Just saw some posts defending and discussing Gale and felt like throwing some of my current thoughts on the topic out into the void
I feel like it’s unfair to be too harsh on him for the actions he took as part of the war effort. Yes, Gale invented an incredibly fucked up weapon that caused the deaths of many innocent people, not just Prim. Yes, Gale suggested strategies that would have caused undeserved mass death and devastation. Yes, Gale was angry and cruel and violent and ultimately a destructive force rather than a constructive one. But you cannot look me in the eye and say that after everything Gale has been through-growing up poor and literally starving, losing a parent and having to step up as the head of his family, watching the obscenely rich use his peers as entertainment in their sick murder games that his best friend was eventually sent to and ultimately lost to (even though she survived)-you cannot say that you or otherwise good people you know wouldn’t have turned out the same way when all was said and done. Gale lived a life ravaged by tragedy, and he did the best he could in the circumstances he was in. At the end of the day, we have no right to judge him because we will never be in his shoes and have to make the choices he made during the war.
Completely pivoting here. On the other hand, Gale was a terrible friend and love interest to Katniss over the course of the books and deserves our full judgment and ire for it. His choices about the war are not a real part of life that most of us will experience. His choices regarding Katniss are. Everyone will encounter people who are jealous, insecure, and entitled in the ways that Gale is towards Katniss. Gale isn’t a villain. Gale is, however, very toxic, and absolutely an unnecessary presence in Katniss’s life after she comes back from the first games and he starts being a little bitch about Peeta. I haven’t reread the books in several months so I can’t pull up specific instances with page numbers and everything but Gale’s behavior towards Katniss is really gross and demanding, and he prioritizes what he wants rather than what she needs, such as when he gets pissy that she won’t leave Peeta to get tortured for information after they survived the trauma murder games together. He sees their relationship as transactional and Katniss as a part of life that is “his”, shown by how he realized he had feelings for her-when someone else was flirting with her and he realized he was jealous. Gale feels like Katniss owes him a relationship when she owes him nothing. He operates with no regard for her feelings and no consideration of her PTSD and how important Peeta is to her, while Peeta uses Gale as a reason for Katniss to survive the Quarter Quell. Gale can’t acknowledge what a horrific experience Katniss has been through and how much it’s changed her, and his lack of empathy towards her trauma is what really pushes them apart in the end. Prim was just the nail in the coffin.
I could go on but this is not a love triangle post, I’m trying to make points about Gale. I know it’s fun to shit on him (I’ve done my fair share), but I think it’s important to acknowledge why he behaves the way that he does and offer him *some* sympathy for his actions. Gale’s story is ultimately a tragedy, and I pity him for being put in situations where he was able to act on his darkest impulses and desires.
(He deserves NO sympathy for Katniss choosing to save herself the headache of being anchored to his insecure, selfish ass for the rest of her life though, get fucked Gale)

So, I went back and rewatched Boy Meets World and Girl Meets World (at the same time). Heres the thoughts:
I watched Girl Meets World before (when it came out in like middle school/high school; I’m in college now so it’s been a while) and since I’m a Boy Meets World fan I thought I would go back and rewatch it.
Boy Meets World is amazing. The storylines, the characters, everything else; I will always love that show and I often rewatch it.
Girl Meets World is 95% hot fucking garbage. Like I get it’s a Disney channel show- it’s not going to be the greatest thing ever- but good god this is a mess. The writers didn’t really get to tell the story they wanted because of Disney, at least I hope that’s what happened instead of actually thinking that this would be on the same level as Boy Meets World.
—————-
The 5% of the show I enjoyed was:
- Eric’s episodes
- Eric and Tommy’s reunion
- Eric and Jack’s reunion
- Seeing more of Cory and Topanga’s relationship
- Some of Shawn’s episodes
- Some of Farkle, Smackle, or Maya’s scenes (definitely not a lot of them though)
- Stuart Minkus’ appearances (and Jennifer too)
- Feeny and the other original characters making cameos too
———-
The rest of Girl Meets World I kinda hated.
For example:
- they did Angela dirty (like, wtf? They acted like she wasn’t close friends with Cory, Topanga, and the other characters before she left in Boy Meets World; it seemed like they made some of the characters mad at her (Riley) for no reason at all, she did nothing wrong in my opinion. And I would have loved to see more of her, like as an Aunt to Riley and Auggie or something)
- they did Jack dirty too (he would’ve definitely stayed in contact with at least Eric and Shawn, being as close as they were on Boy Meets World. And why wasn’t he at Shawn’s wedding? Also, we should’ve seen more of him after the semi formal episode, and jeric should have happened)
- no Rachel appearances (I would have loved to see her again, and she did stay in contact with Eric, as mentioned in the show, so she could’ve come back)
- the annoying ass Riley, Maya, Lucas love triangle
- the fact that they still didn’t make jeric happen (I need them to happen. They would be so cute! Just look at them:⬇️)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
- Mr Turner not having more scenes (I hated that he wasn’t at Shawn’s wedding- like we knew he was in NYC, he could’ve been there- and that he wasn’t in more scenes, especially ones with Shawn)
- the whole “Maya is turning into Riley and they have to stop it” arc. (It was- like the love triangle- annoying, long, and unnecessary. And people do change in high school- and often do a full 180 to their personality; I know I did, and on the Boy Meets World universe Harley Kenner did too. I didn’t even notice the change until it was outright said on the show, and I think the characters discouraging this was just wrong. Yes, Maya did change a lot throughout the show, but that is good. It shows growth, it shows a character arc, that her life is getting brighter and she has more hope, and I still saw Maya as the same character at that point. Anyway, I think that this whole arc was just bad, but I think that Maya still was a good character- she was just poorly written sometimes)
And let’s not forget the two biggest reasons I hate this sequel:
- Joshaya (that relationship was creepy as hell now that I’ve watched the show as an adult, in middle school I didn’t really see why people disliked it, but now I get it. I mean at the end of the series Josh is a FRESHMAN IN COLLEGE (around 18) and Maya is a FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL (around 14 or 15), them doing what they do on the show is illegal. And Josh saying that he’ll “play the long game” too and wait for her? Ew. Just ew. That makes it so much worse; it implies that he’s waiting until she’s 18 or in college and that’s just disturbing and disgusting for a Disney channel show and in general. Overall: Joshaya is gross and illegal and should’ve never been a thing and other characters should not have encouraged it on the show)
- “Girl Meets Farkle” (the infamous autism focused episode. I loved the fact that it had representation for autism, but I hated the way this episode was handled and written. This was by far the worst part of the show for me. I hated the way that some of the characters (Riley, Maya, Lucas) reacted when Farkle said he might be autistic. They acted like it was some horrible thing to be autistic, (which- as a human being and recently diagnosed person with autism- I found offensive) seriously they acted like autism was going to kill him (I’m not joking, that’s how they reacted) and they even went as far as to make Farkle mask who he was in one scene when Farkle said that he identified with some signs of autism. Like, all he wanted was support from his friends when he was getting tested and figuring things out, and all he got was hate from them. And I hate that other characters (and the writers of the show) didn’t see this too and change things or put a stop to it. They also used some outdated language to describe the spectrum on the show, which didn’t help things at all. For a lot of people and viewers, this was the first time they really learned about or saw anything about the spectrum and autism and this is just a horrible way to learn about this. Additionally, I loved Smackle’s whole story and telling how she got diagnosed, but I hated how some characters (Riley and sometimes Maya) treated her throughout the show. As an example: Smackle, as shown in the series, doesn’t often like hugs or physical contact (like me sometimes) and she makes it known, but Riley still fucking tries to hug her constantly and it’s so irritating! I know that if I was having a moment like that, as I often do, and someone tried to hug me like that I would be very uncomfortable and upset, so this whole thing they do with those interactions on the show just pisses me off. Overall: this episode of the show was offensive and horrifying, mostly because of the way the show frames autism and the way that the other characters react to Farkle and his potential diagnosis and Smackle with her actual diagnosis.
—————
In conclusion to my long ass rant:

What do you *actually* think will happen in 17?
sorry to take so long with this. I had a rough weekend and needed time to think this through so here is a list of things that "might" happen in s17. Be warned for some passive aggressiveness
the obvious:
More of Garcia being a stubborn bitch: I doubt the show will make her realize how shitty the character was in s16 and continue to derail her character somehow
Garcia being easily forgiven for her hookup with T*ler G*een cause god forbid anyone can be "rightfully" upset at the beloved Penelope Garcia
Tyler Green getting a shit ton of screentime, since he's now a series regular and him being irrelevant in s17
Luke being a glorified extra once again and only getting scraps about his life cause god forbid he and Tara take away any screentime from the beloved white men
More unnecessary screentime of Rossi in pain and suffering
Reid being mentioned a 1000000 times while Matt is forgotten (they haven't mentioned Matt after 16x02)
The gold star storyline being underwhelming
Luke and Tara still being out of focus
Evolution!Garcia being much ruder to Luke, even with their last scene in 16x10, the show will find ways for her to revery back to bullying Luke cause god forbid they let them be happy and less toxic together
Rossi's trauma after being trapped in a container being ignored after 17x01. I mean cm has an obvious track record of ignoring their character's traumas so why stop there
the rest of the characters having ooc moments besides Garcia
Will being mentioned several times by JJ, since Josh isn't coming back to s17
Garcia still having no remorse over her actions in s16 and they get brushed off with no consequences
Another cliffhanger in 17x10
Tyler Green still not dying and disappearing in 17x10
Elias possibly dying or disappearing before Tyler Green in 17x10
Emily missing out on fun team bonding moments cause of "work", based on the bts photo with everyone
Tyler Green trying to be "friendly" and helpful with everyone on the team
Tyler also having no remorse for sleeping with Garcia, a federal agent and not caring that there could be repercussions especially if the case goes on trial
The Gold Star Storyline being about Rossi, and the show trying to showhorn Tyler Green into the mix
More swearing from the characters
Tyler Green trying to "win" Garcia back
Luke still giving heart eyes
Luke still not getting a storyline, cause god forbid cm gives him more screentime than any of the white men
Shit, I almost forgot, JJ being calm and chill regarding Will despite seeing him get shot (despite surviving) with the same thing as Rossi and his ptsd
50/50 chance of happening:
JJ having slightly less screentime than s16 due to Will not appearing in s17, and the writers not knowing what to do with JJ that doesn't revolve around her and her husband and sons
Emily's "storyline" revolving around Bailey. Just cause he's dead, doesn't mean that the show isn't gonna stop having the women's storylines focus on anything else but the men around them. I do understand why Emily would be the most affected by his death despite their differences as the two were close but I don't want Bailey's death to take up all of Emily's storyline in s17, idk if that makes sense, like I don't want it to be the only thing s17 has for Emily. All we know that Emily goes through some "serious shit" which could mean anything
more random Tara and Rebecca drama, assuming if Nicole comes back
The garvez/greencia love triangle taking up more screentime than necessary, especially with Tyler Green being a "main" character
Elias Voit becoming Cat Adams 2.0, ruining an interesting villain by having him overstay his welcome longer than needed, not helped that Zach is also promoted to series regular, a first time they did that with an unsub and I don't understand why, despite interviews stating Elias' role in s17 being a hannibal lecter type role
Elias finding out about Garcia and Tyler Green's relationship and using it as leverage and preventing the BAU from prosecuting him for his crimes, which is why the
Garcia defending Tyler Green, moreso in front of Luke whenever he has any valid criticisms of him
Luke and Tyler having a verbal argument of some sort and it leads to a "fallout" between Luke and Garcia
The characters wearing more browns and grays
50/50 of fans and viewers being disappointed and let down
Person behind the door at the cliffhanger being anyone but Reid
Elias only interacting with Rossi
Bailey having more screentime than Luke and Tara despite him being dead and only in flashbacks or hallucinations
Garcia being conflicted about getting back together with Tyler
Garcia bragging about her therapy sessions once again
JJ's storyline revolving around her sons and some unnecessary drama to the boys, especially Henry. Him either getting bullied or anxious for whatever reason, not to mention his concern for his parent's safety and it gets brushed off after an episode or two
Tara and Rebecca possibly reconciling before breaking up, again
This is all I have so far, might update this if I come up with something else. Again, sorry for the passive aggressiveness, I'm still bitter about certain things in s16
@snailsandpuppy-dogtails, you're welcome to add more to this
@missmitchieg, @blackbird-brewster, @gaelic-symphony, @bacchicly, @baubeautyandthegeek, feel free to add more to this

the last hours would be better without the gracelet
TW: assault mention in regards to Grace’s ability & her controlling James
This has been on my mind for a while and I wanted to try to articulate it into words. I will be discussing MY PERSONAL OPINION that the gracelet was a cheap ploy at relationship drama, written in a way that makes James and Cordelia’s relationship 100% redeemable.
I’ll be talking about The Midnight Heir, where it is mentioned that James has the bracelet on, but we are unaware of what it means. This was written long before TLH was written and many things have obviously changed, especially Grace and James’s characters and their dynamic. From TMH, without awareness of the bracelet, we are given an extremely different take of Grace that has been given in TLH.
Grace was pictured at first as innocent and tempting (gross) and then after Magnus is leaving the house, she threatens him with a blade after he asks her if she needs help to get away from Tatiana. Her attitude is very different from how she is in TLH, and Magnus comes to a conclusion that Grace kind of led James on a bit, that he declared his love for her, and then she cruelly rejects James.
Let’s talk about if the bracelet did not exist, and The Midnight Heir presumably had the energy that James and Grace originally had before the TLH story changes. If there was no bracelet, and James and Grace’s childhood “love story” was similar, except that James loves Grace FOR REAL, with the bracelet nonexistent. She only leads him on because of Tatiana making her, and to hurt him, she cruelly rejects him and he is heartbroken, acting out the way he does in TMH. This would presumably make him desperate enough to do anything she tells him to do, which is all manipulation to control him for Tatiana. Therefore, there is absolutely no assault, but Grace is not a good person still. I just personally think, and I think many others think this as well, that the assault aspect of Grace’s power has rendered her whole ability unnecessary and, in my opinion, should not have been included in the novel. There is a way to make her a manipulative, terrifying, and cunning enemy without assault, especially if the goal is to give Grace a redemption arc. This could have easily been done by just keeping Grace’s same energy from TMH but just WITHOUT THE BRACELET! (I absolutely hate the ploy of using assault to basically eliminate one of the people from a love triangle and narrow down who the endgame really will be.)
I strongly believe this would have been a MUCH, MUCH better story without the bracelet. However, there is a big reason that I think the bracelet was included. The love triangle would actually be REAL. There would be no way to justify James truly being in love with ONLY Cordelia for his whole life, he would have to truly love Grace, which obviously calls for a love triangle. We know that the Matthew x Cordelia x James love triangle is canon so I don’t know why Grace could not have been involved without the bracelet (and her power in general). I don’t know what it is about “Herondales only love once” but it’s bullshit and I hate it because it’s such an unhealthy ideology. Why not have James truly love Grace and then fall out of love with her and then fall in love with Cordelia? Why? Because Herondales can only love once? Therefore, the bracelet and Grace’s ability were created. It also would probably make the story sadder too because obviously James would be going back and forth between the two girls. I think it is so stupid that there had to be a plot device created in order to make sure James only has been in love with one person.

okay okay i hear you. please enjoy the trump/putin/obama love triangle fic. i wrote this for grammar class in 9th grade and if i remember correctly i got an A
Presidential Affairs
President Donald Trump sighed exasperatedly as he dotted one last ‘I’ and roughly slammed his pen onto the long wooden desk of the Oval Office.
“Why did I agree to four years of this...” he grumbled, rubbing his forehead tiredly.
He was only a few months into his first term as President of the United States and was already exhausted. Leading the country hadn’t come easy to the natural businessman, and the truth of the matter was staring him in the face; reviewing and signing hundreds of documents a day as well as serving as the face of America was more than Donald could handle, no matter how great he told himself he was.
Pushing his large, luxuriously padded desk chair back, Donald hoisted himself out of the seat and stood, stretching his cramping back. Longing to view something other than the eye-straining white of legal documents, he waddled across the room to one of the windows of the Oval Office, pulled the curtains aside and peered out. Immediately, his view of the beautiful presidential garden was entirely obstructed by a large black limousine. It was parked alarmingly close to the building, so close that it had crushed some of the decorative flowers that were planted just outside the windows. Donald blinked, pondering this unusual sight for a moment. He made a mental note to increase the White House’s landscaping budget, then glanced at his diamond-studded gold watch- 1:17. He was expecting a visit from Barack Obama for a meeting around 2:00, but it was far too early for the car to be his. Besides, Barack wasn’t quite the type to make such a dramatic (and destructive) entrance. He turned back to the window, staring blankly at the limousine as he wracked his mind for an explanation.
Sudden, a sharp rapping sound pierced the silence of the office. With a start, Donald whipped around and frantically searched for the source of the noise, the curtains of the window billowing back into place behind him. Looking to the other side of the Oval Office, he startled as he noticed a short, handsome man in a tidy suit standing in the doorway, resting his hand on the doorknob. Donald squinted, attempting to make out the face of the mysterious figure in spite of his declining vision. Suddenly, the man swiftly closed the door and began to move forward, taking shorter-than-average strides towards Donald. Donald panicked and began to reach for the office phone to call security, before realizing as the man drew closer that he recognized the pale, angular face. Donald slowly turned to face the man as he approached. The man walked up to Donald and stopped for a moment, looking him up and down. Donald hesitantly took the man’s hand in his, and the man grasped it and shook it vigorously.
“Vladimir Putin-” Donald started.
“Donald Trump,” Putin interjected, staring into Donald’s eyes unblinkingly.
“This, uh, this is very… unusual,” Donald continued, withdrawing his hand. “Why exactly are you here?” Putin turned away from Donald, strolling past him to approach the back of the office.
“I’m here on personal matters, you could say.” He paused at the windows and clasped his hands behind his back. “Tell, me, Mr. Trump, have you ever had...” Putin stopped. Suddenly, he dramatically whipped around to face Donald and finished his sentence:
“An affair?”
Donald regarded Putin with confusion for a moment before launching into one of his typical outbursts.
“Out of my many experiences and great accomplishments, I can truthfully say that I’ve never had an affair, unless you count my two ex-wives who didn’t think I was great enough for them. I disagree, it so happens. But that was all legal, all legal. By the way, whatever it was you just did was very unnecessary. There are no security cameras in here, by my request, so nobody saw that but me. I did like the theatrics and flair, though. Very impressive. Almost as great as me. Are all of you Russians like tha-”
Before Donald could finish, Putin was suddenly right up against him. He leaned over Donald and lightly pinned him to the desk, one of his hands on Donald’s shoulder and the other cradling the back of his head. With a blush appearing on his already orange cheeks, Donald shrunk slightly away from Putin, whose face was now right up in his own. Putin tightened his grip on Donald’s shoulder, pulling the president back towards him, ever closer than before. He slowly drew his hand from the back of Donald’s head, caressing his cheek as he went, and gripped Donald by the first of his many chins, leaning in inches away from Donald’s face.
“Would you like to?” He whispered as he slowly brought Donald’s lips closer to his, staring deep into the president’s eyes. Putin’s breath reeked of strong Russian vodka, but Donald was too enthralled in his breathtaking blue gaze to either notice the odor or resist his advances. As Putin leaned in closer, Donald closed his eyes, losing himself in the moment, as their lips began to- SLAM! The door to the Oval Office suddenly flew open.
“Putin! I thought you loved me!  …TRUMP!?”
Donald’s eyes flew open as both he and Putin jerked around to the sight of-
“Obama!?” Donald shouted in surprise and embarrassment.
Barack Obama stood in the open doorway to the Oval Office, a grim look on his face. Donald watched in panic as Barack quickly drew a pistol from within his suit and pointed it at Trump, before he could move even an inch.
“You’d better explain fast, Donald.”

People have been complaining about the addition of too many new characters in this season and the lack of the protagonists from past season (sans Eun-yu), which I definitely agree with.
But the real problem of Sweet Home season 2's new characters is that the writer(s) don't really put an effort to make us attached to them, sans our greenest green flag Chan-young ofc (and Sergeant Tak for me, Kim and his loyal subordinate also to some extent). The fact that season 2 is a set-up for season 3 or that the writer(s) probably struggling and overwhelmed in trying to handle both them & juggling with the new plot points is not an excuse to write them like that.
Despite their screen times, we are not even given anything much about their past or depth (no, that party scene in the confession room didn't count), thus making most of them painfully one dimensionally annoying (especially that ugly man with the South Korea jersey, glad he fucking died). It's hard getting attached to a bunch of new people with their own motives and personal agendas that's not even barely hinted by the show and we still don't even fucking know at all in the end of the season.
Season 1 cast also grow on us because of their found family-ness (except that ugly beauty monster and the fucking pedo, fuck them), their character developments, and genuine care for each other to survive. Season 2 cast on the other hand, everyone's just busy being a bitch to each other with a stagnant character progress. No solidarity, lots of backstabbing and manipulating, unnecessary drama of Eun-yu's persecution, unnecessary barely fleshed love triangles, the military controlling the survivors in a progressively fascist way, etc. So much drama of annoying strangers we barely know from the start to the end.
The sub-plot of Yi-kyung and her daughter on the other hand, despite supposedly being one of the main highlight of this season, feels so poorly handled with it being fucking crammed in the last two episodes, which is not enough to make some people being attached enough to her daughter. It's like being given a rundown of someone's poor tragic life and being expected to sympathize with them shortly after that
That's why it makes the watching experience more tiresome/boring to most people and unbearable to some people who expected more of season 1 surviving characters or more monsters and fight scenes (which what made the season 1). The trailers did such a great job hooking people to watch it when everything shown there is the only good parts we got so far in season 2. Nothing more, nothing at all besides that.

A Sign Of Affection Episode 8 Review - Unrequited Love Sucks
I am praying to all the Gods in existence for this story to stray far away from drama. There’s already hints about a messy love triangle between Itsuomi, Emma and Shin and not to mention the ongoing conflict about Oushi’s feelings for Yuki. I just hope that nothing bad happens and that everything can be handled as maturely as possible; these characters are adults, so handle things like adults.
Tumblr media
I wonder why some anime sites list Shin’s surname as Iyanagi when it’s actually Iryuu. Because of this, I have to change my tags! On the topic of Shin, I feel bad for him. I’ve been in his situation as well as being in Emma’s situation. Being in love with someone who will never love you back the same way really does suck. Shin loves Emma, but she loves Itsuomi, who is dating Yuki. The fact that he’s still friends with Itsuomi and not cut him off from his life shows how strong their friendship is. Heck, the first thing Itsuomi did was introduce Yuki to Shin in hopes that Emma can finally move on. I do like how much he trusts Shin to reveal these things to him. He trusts him as much as he trusts Kyouya, who’s his family. I was slightly frustrated when Shin didn’t tell Emma of the big news, but it makes sense as he doesn’t want to hurt her.
The Highschool flashback scene was interesting to see. It was nice seeing what Itsuomi was like back then. He was a mysterious transfer student, so he was easily the talk of the school with how handsome he was. Emma fell for him at first sight. It was also nice seeing insight on how the three became friends. The love triangle between them stems from Shin falling for Emma at first sight and Emma falling for Itsuomi at first sight. Despite that, they all got along as they kept hanging out at the rooftop. Shin had multiple girlfriends that he used as replacements to get over his feelings for Emma, but he never got over them, hence his constant breakups and rumors about him sleeping around a lot. He even had to self-sabotage himself by saying that Emma was someone he’d never fall in love with and even hoped Itsuomi and Emma would date just so he could have closure. His feelings are very complicated, but I hope for the best for him.
People might think that Emma falling for Itsuomi at first sight isn’t realistic, but love works in mysterious ways. Sometimes, you just fall for someone without knowing too much about them. I fell in love with a boy in my middle school class after seeing how different he was from the other boys I was friends with. I didn’t really talk to him much due to us being reserved, but I didn’t even realize I liked him romantically until a friend told me she had a crush on him and the thought of her liking him irked me. It just happens; I guarantee that. However, I do wonder if Emma’s feelings for him just stem from her liking his appearance. Like, even though he brushed her off so many times, she still clings onto him in hopes that he’ll like her back. I just hope she won’t bring unnecessary drama in the future.
I do like that time passes in this show as Yuki, Rin and Itsuomi have moved onto upper grades; Yuki is a second-year now. Rin and Itsuomi are third-years now. Yuki now has new note takers as Rin had to quit due to conflicting schedules. They’re still friends, however.
All the Yuki and Itsuomi scenes are adorable, which is why I didn’t talk much about them for this review. The Yuki and stoat comparison was the highlight to me; it’s nice to have a character be compared to an animal that’s not the traditional pets. However, I am interested in the sign language boot camp next episode. I can’t wait to see if Kyouya and Rin will get good progression and to see more Yuki and Itsuomi scenes. What are your thoughts?

Chain of Thorns: all my main thoughts
yes hello, i wanna make a large post abt this bc i just need to list everything out since i have A LOT of thoughts
MAJOR SPOILER WARNING
SERIOUSLY
DONT READ FURTHER UNLESS YOUVE READ THE BOOK
Things I Liked:
basically every moment where we got to see Will. I was laughing at so many things that Will said and I missed having that, since I will never get enough of Will's humor.
Seeing Jesse interact with the Merry Thieves. It made me so happy and I love seeing Jesse's dry humor mixed in with the Merry Thieves; he fits in with them so well.
Just human Jesse in general. Everything about him made me so happy. He was so kind and brave and quite funny.
Getting to see more of Anna/Ari. During the first book we got almost nothing of them, partially because of Ari being poisoned but also because Anna was kind of not in the main circle yet.
Christopher visiting Grace and them getting to know each other. It made me so happy that there was someone who could see past what Grace had done and could give her a second chance, and their bond over science was so sweet.
Thomastair. That's it. No explanation needed.
Ghostwriter I thought was pretty well done, but the whole "them kissing would cause Lucie to see demon stuff" was kind of unnecessary.
Jem being there for Grace and talking to her to help her through
The Watchers were a really cool plot twist I wasn't expecting
honestly the james turning on the lamp on pg 127 caused a lot of pterodactyl screeching which was fun
the Herondaisy scene in chapter 23 hehe
Effie every time she opens her mouth
Also Bridget who is my queen. she is my love, my life, my star.
Eugenia Lightwood just existing was fabulous.
Esme being the most random plot thread ever which caused a lot of unexpected laughter
"Alastair why are you so stupid I brush my teeth dont tell anyone" LMAO
Alastair with the baby
Again, Thomastair.
Matthew's eventual acceptance of Alastair into the group
Cordelia outsmarting Lilith with her deal
Belial having a weird obsession with being crowned prince of London or whatever
Also Belial's weird bird demon friend made me CACKLE
Bridgestock blackmailing Charles. if i'm honest, i think it was a great part of the plot bc it did kind of give Charles a slight redemption (but also him being kind of outted is also really bad) but i think it was great in kind of allowing Flora be able to accept Ari without fear of Maurice
Lucie and Cordelia talking abt Cordelia's boobs lmaooo/The Wicked Queen Cordelia
Grace's entire arc through this book
the different meanings behind "cordelia ran"
Things that made me sobbbb:
Will becoming a sort of father figure to Jesse
The Merry Thieves helping Matthew with his drinking
Cordelia and James when they finally confessed for real
Matthew's entire arc with his drinking and telling the truth
Christopher's death
"you are my unfinished business" IM SOBBING STILL
Christopher's death
The scene where they see that Kit's dead
Kit being dead
Intermission: Grief
the fact that kit was in fact dead and not going to come back at the end (i was in denial for the entire second half)
Matthew and James while in Edom
Thomas coming out to his family
Alastair telling Cordelia that he's always afraid for her with her being the wielder of Cortana
Again. Kit's death. (i cried a lot ok its been an emotional couple of days)
Things I didn't like:
The whole love triangle. I still don't think that Matthew truly loved Cordelia and i never believed it would be an actual love triangle
the fact that the truth about the bracelet had to be kept secret for so long. it felt kind of unnecessary. there were other ways to draw out the plot than that.
the fact that tatiana exists
Kit's death. I feel like it's so unfair that of all people, he's the one to die. it didn't feel well written, it felt like it had to happen bc she couldn't kill the queer characters and Kit was the only main character left that she COULD kill.
Grace's entire plot being kind of left without an ending.
The lack of mourning/a funeral for kit. (since we didnt get enough mourning, i think im going to write it bc i want to suffer for the purpose of completing the loose ends)
the pacing. the entire plot felt so oddly paced, and it wasn't as much of a mystery like choi or chog.
again, why christopher? i feel like matthew would've been a better choice, or perhaps sona.
magnus kind of getting written out so early
though i love our gay couples and their accepting families, it is a little bit unrealistic. i get that the point is that this particular batch of the families are very kind people in comparison to what their families become a little farther down the road(ie Robert, maryse, etc), but it still feels a little bit unrealistic.
i felt like the whole lucie and cordelia struggling with their friendship thing was a little bit too much to add into this already very full book. (although i loved the wicked cordelia reveal that was fun)
i feel like we didn't fully get the wrap up at the end that we needed. we didn't see enough of them after the battle, as they came to terms with their losses and their wins and how they would continue their lives.
also we never really got to see jesse meeting his cousins/aunts and uncles and i wish we'd gotten that.
Questions I still have:
bridget? whats going on with her? theres a throwaway line in the coda mentioning something is odd abt her, but thats it??
grace. what is going to happen to grace? i wish we could perhaps see her and figure out if she's alright.
im still confused abt the lightwood line. i guess they're trying to say that alexander is going to continue it? (that actually kind of makes sense, genetics wise tho, cuz alexander looks like cecily and alec and izzy are supposed to inherit that)
will we ever get a revised family tree?
blackthorn line???
Rupert's ghost?
fairchild line? am i correct to assume that its going to tie into charlotte's pregnancy reveal at the end?
I'm sure I have more thoughts but I can't remember them at this present moment and I didn't write them down but these are all the ones I wrote down.
lmk what y'all think abt this book

Finished Rise of the Pink Ladies...
Random Thoughts in Yays and Boos and Wuts and Mehs
Yay: Hazel’s a Pink Lady. Great way to end the season. Great pay off.
Boo: That whole wedding story line. It was unnecessary and dumb.
Wut?: Jonathan Nieves leaving and being photoshopped into scenes.
Yay: Setup for a second season with the other schools and Zuko’s big brother (I guess?). But please, please, please stop with Jane and her love life - I cannot find the will to care.
Boo/Yay/I Can’t Decide: Nancy’s treatment of Potato was not cool. Female empowerment isn’t disregarding your partner’s feelings and doing what only you want because I am woman hear me roar. That’s what gets me about some feminist media - the whole my way or the highway of it all. Compromise isn’t a dirty word - it’s called not being a jerkface and being a part of a healthy relationship (as long as it’s not one partner doing all the compromising). I know Nancy marches to the beat of her own drum and Potato clearly appreciates that but she was putting SO many stipulations on their relationship and really being inconsiderate of him a lot. I’m very happy about her owning up to that but I didn’t really like how she was going to end things with him at the carnival without discussing how they might make it work. She came off as very selfish in her behavior and inconsiderate of his feelings. In the end, they’re still my favorite couple and I’m glad they worked things out but I hope we get to see her play a more emotionally supportive role to him in the future like she did with Cynthia.
Yay (Kind Of): When I first saw the play scene from Hazel’s POV with Buddy dipping out, I thought he was jealous of her getting the limelight. But then we got episode 7 from the boys’ POV and you saw that Buddy was just reeling from his daddy drama. I was glad he wasn’t being petty. He was just hurt.
Meh: Wally and Hazel are kind of cute, but I’m a not so secret shipper of her and Buddy. I don’t like love triangles (which this show seems to be a fan of) so I hope if we get a second season that this issue gets resolved fast.
Meh: Gil is a cutie, but I am not feeling any of the girls he’s been paired with thus far. I don’t really like him and Olivia together.
Wut?: Who does Dot like? They teased it but never told us.
Boo: Where’s the sizzle? Please get Shonda Rhimes to this show stat to create some chemistry between these people. For so many romantic relationships, none of them bring the heat. Everyone’s different, but for me, for a show to be fully satisfying, I have to have a couple that I ship. That I can’t wait to see kiss and see those moments of being in love. It’s why I adored Queen Charlotte and Jackson/April on Grey’s or Andy/April on Parks and Rec.
Boo: This show reminds me a little bit of Girls in the fact that the male characters are more intriguing than the women. Ray and Adam were more interesting/likable than the main characters. I feel like it’s similar for this show. Potato and Shy Guy in particular I want to know more about. I love the women as a whole group and their times together, but individually...I’m getting less and less interested especially with Jane and  Olivia who’ve kind of become one note. Nancy (and Cynthia to an extent), I feel like is the only character who’s really grown. I feel like she embodies adolescence the best in regards to not knowing what you want but slowly figuring things out and maturing. I’ve really enjoyed her journey (just be sweeter to Potato, please and thank you).
Wut?: So is this show getting a second season or not? 10/10 would watch.

i still can’t get over the fact that will had to listen to mike’s monologue. like, the writers really chose to keep him in the room along with jonathan and argyle when they could’ve written it so they were somewhere else or mike could’ve asked everyone to clear the room so he could think more clearly. a love confession is supposed to be intimate and private between the two people in the relationship, but instead, they put the third person in the love triangle right there and forced him to listen to the boy he’s loved all his life say he loves someone else… like, they really did that to a child who has been suffering his whole life and is struggling with his sexuality and it was one of the most cruel and unnecessary things they could’ve done in this show. not to mention that mike only said it because of will too.
the entire thing just feels like a slap in the face to will and it’s one of the many reasons why i’ll never understand how anyone can take this scene seriously or say it’s sweet and romantic when another kid is suffering badly because of it. if they wanted mike and el to stay together and have a big confession, that’s fine, and they could’ve done it really well if their relationship was actually healthy and well-written, but the problem is that they involved will and messed with his feelings and used him as a plot device. this scene wouldn’t have happened if will didn’t confess his own feelings to mike, give him the painting, call him the heart, give him strength and motivation, make him feel loved and push him to say the monologue in the pizza place. it was all because of will, and, as always, he ended up with absolutely nothing and no gratitude.

Ok so, I was literally dying to talk about this but didn't know how to, until I saw this so I'm shooting my shot.
What do you think would happen if Miss Yuu sang "Bring on the Men", from the Jekyll and Hude musical in the HoM Au? I personally think it's the perfect song for all the simps lol.
My best friend and I have this as one of our go-to karaoke songs! It's such a banger
(even though I don't really like the fact that the musical added on two unnecessary romances that were never in the original novella, both Lisa and Lucy are well-written characters that have incredible songs. I just wish the musical focused more on the facade of society/propriety, good and evil, addiction, Jekyll's temptations and hubris whilst playing God and Hyde becoming more powerful than they did on the love triangles. Also, who the hell is John Utterson? In the novella, Henry had two best friends: Dr Hastie Lanyon (who unfriended him after differences in opinion) and Mr Gabriel John Utterson, who was literally his ride or die BFF - a lawyer who was loyal to that man until Jekyll died. Their friendship is literally the reason why the novella takes place and the musical doesn't even do it justice but anyway I digress it's still one of my favourites)
So there is no way Yuu is going to be singing that song in the HoM in front of children and her parent figures. Maybe she's doing a karaoke night with her friends in the Mostro Lounge and they choose a random song from her music app on her phone for her to sing and it ends up being this. Why does the universe hate her. Honesty, she was incredibly flustered but she hid it well and just sang it for a fun time.
Needless to say that the simping levels have doubled and they were already maxed out. Ace, who at first was making fun of how embarrassed she looked at the beginning, is now redder than his dorm leader's hair. Rook is in the middle of composing a poem to describe the beauty of Ramshackle's prefect. In iambic pentameter and rhyming couplets.
Imagine if she sang it during the Noble Bell College Arc? Like this was her version of Esmeralda's dance where her performance is what caused Rollo to get attracted for her. (Fun fact: I have really dark brown hair that's often mistaken for black - everyone actually thought it was black until I turned like eight/nine so the 'sun caught in her raven hair' line in Hellfire fits my Yuu since I'm basing her appearance off of me). Like you know at one part when she sings, she gives her attention to Rollo and winks to him like Esmeralda did and now she will burn
Okay, I like the latter version more. You heard it from me. Jekyll and Hyde caused Rollo to sing like a mad man in front of a fireplace. Fitting since the devil/God and angels are mentioned quite a lot in the play.

oh noooo what abt snw is bad 😭
:smiles:
One million little things. I’ll will put them in an arbitrary numbered list for no reason.
1. Enough TOS already: we get it, tos was pretty awesome but like…. No need to beat a dead horse. Spock is the most deadest horse to ever die. The fact that there has now been THREE actors to revise the roll of Spock is a red flag. When Spock came back on TNG, in the 80s, I felt like they were jumping the shark with that. Enough Spock, let Spock rest. I don’t care about his secret siblings that’s literally dumb. He was at his ever best in tos and everything else after has been a bad interpretation only created so people can go “look it’s Spock!”. Also speaking of which
2. Spock isn’t Spock: SNW Spock serves no Spock energy anyway, so why even bring him back. Just have a different Vulcan character for the love of god…. OH WAIT you can’t because you decided to make a tos prequel and Spock was the first Vulcan in Star fleet so you literally on god cannot have another Vulcan… sucks to be you. And then…. For some unknown reason… they were like “you know what Spock needs ???? A love triangle” like dear lord in heaven the cringe factor just shot through the roof. I don’t even wanna get started about how in amok time it was very clearly implied and stated and tpring and Spock had an arranged marriage and only ever met as children. You know, the whole reason they didn’t wanna get married because there was nothing between them in the first place and being shackled to a stranger for the rest of their lives would have been awkward as hell….. instead the writers of SNW were like “what if we retconned one of the most iconic episodes of tos… and instead made it so Spock and tpring were bitter exs 😂😂😂😂” LIKE SHUT THE HELL UP! Honestly Spock not being interested in pursuing romantic/sexual relationships was very fundamental to his character. It set him apart from the others in the show and was definitely meant as a parallel to Kirk who was constantly falling in love with everyone. How many times did they have to explain the concept of love to Spock who would then be like “hmmm I don’t personally get it but you humans do seem to gain something from it.. so” AND NOW WE ARE MEANT TO BELIEVE THAT SPOCK WAS IN A COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP AND IN LOVE ???? Literally giant retcon for something so fundamental to his character.
3. They based a show off a failed pilot from the 60s: that’s kinda all I have to say about that one. It’s just kinda funny on principle and kinda gives the whole operation doomed vibes. They were like “nooooo we can make it happen this time I swear!” Yeah. No.
4. Pike is nothing: Pike is a lame captain, I’m sorry. He constantly seems like he doesn’t know what’s going on and his plastic face is stuck in a smirk as if he’s epic, and I feel like the show keeps TELLING us how epic he is and yet he has done nothing to prove that so far. Like character will walk up to him and be like “pike you are so bad ass!” But it seems like whenever anything bad happens pike looks exactly like the below picture.
Tumblr media
Maybe he did awesome stuff in disco that I just didn’t see yet but still…. No proof of anything bad ass. I feel like he’s not even in the show that much, really.
5. I don’t like the humor: humor is personal of course so I won’t go too much into it, but they rely on a lot of quippy one liners and characters reacting to something random happening by being like “well that was random!!!” Which to me is just like the laziest form of humor. I honestly think that classic trek managed to be very very funny at times, especially tos and ds9, and they never much relied on pointing at something, turning to the audience and going “well isn’t that crazy!”
6. Weird pacing: I feel like I’m constantly being bored to tears and yet often get taken off guard by events happening. I think this is because they try and throw in as many plot twists as possible. I do not like unnecessary forced plot twists. For example at the end of episode three they were like “the transporter didn’t work….. because m’benga is keeping his daughter in there!” Like what. Literally what. No hints to that before. No nothing. Plot twists that come out of left feild with no hinting before hand are just empty. That whole episode was filled with empty plot twists. “Number one is genetically modified!” Like okay. Do you want me to feel shock at this revelation that is never brought up again and holds no relevance in the bigger picture
7: I dont like new trek aesthetic: again just a personal preference. I can barely look at the stark white shiny chrome polished plastic of it all. I hate lense flares too and it’s disappointing that the new trek aesthetic seems to be mostly established from AOS movies… like why. I will say they have built some impressive sets and don’t seem to be relying too much on CGI to get the job done, so that’s good to see and to their credit. But yeah, I think the 60s modernism of TOS was very timelessly beautiful. I understand it was very of the era and won’t hold up the same, but I wish they would have incorporated more aspects of modernest design when creating the aesthetic for new trek. Like that wouod have cool. Oh and also most the uniforms are so 🤢🤢🤢
8. there is only 10 episodes per season: that is like, not enough time to get into a show in my opinion. No time to get to know any character or nothing. Oh and speaking of that
9. Why is there so many damn characters. I can’t even tell who’s supposed to be a major character and just kinda a background character. It leaves no time to explore their personalities since we have only got to know them for 10 episodes. I guess maybe since half of them have been mentioned before we are supposed to know them already? Like Spock? But for a character we know the most about, we sure do spend a lot of time on Spock.
I don’t know, I could probably keep going. Like I said a lot of this is just personal opinion and it’s not an awful show. It’s just I care so much about the franchise it would be hard for any show to meet my expectations. I did go into it kinda exciting but pretty neutral and wanted to watch as much as possible before I formed an opinion. I’ve seen up to episode 9 now and am definitely gonna finish it off, just for completions sake. Overall it just feels pretty stale to me, like they aren’t trying to do anything new and are just relying on recognizable stuff from the franchise to get them through. I’d really like to see them make a show that continues the journey (you know… maybe We can meet the…. Next generation… of people in starfleet?) instead of shows that keep going back or are based around well known character.
I think they are really scared to make a series that doesn’t heavily lean on TOS or TNG because those are their two most recognizable shows. However, if they made a show that took place where canon left off (after ds9) then they would have to bank on the fact that everyone watched a much less popular series. I feel like they don’t even want to touch the dominion war because they are afraid no one will know what that is, but in order to make a truly new series they do kinda have to talk about it, don’t they? So like, instead of dealing with that whole mess let’s just keep making prequels because everyone knows who Spock is. So yeah those are most my thoughts on SNW (I could keep going) if anyone reads this whole thing feel free to send angry messages and pick apart the probably countless misspellings I made here cuz I am not going back to edit all this. Bye
