i think i’ve learned a lot when it comes to not applying my own values to the media i consume

for my script analysis class yesterday, we discussed two gentleman from verona, and nearly every classmate of mine was up in arms about how sexist the story is.

and i'm not saying it's not, or that it's not infuriating to read. but i'm also not putting my energy into getting upset about something written 500 or so years ago. and i'm not about to put my own beliefs onto these characters that are not me. i'm going to let their choices speak for themselves, and interpret it in the context of the story.

all that said, this now brings me to the point of alastor in episode 5, and how viscerally people are responding to it. those of you up in arms about the choices he’s making, and the violent threat he gave husk, you’re missing the entire point of his character, of this place they’re in, of the story being told. he’s an overlord, and he became an overlord by killing much bigger overlords and broadcasting their deaths over the radio.

HE IS NOT A GOOD PERSON.

if you started this show with the belief that every character working the hotel is a good person, you’re in the wrong place. watch the good place if you’re looking for a good wholesome story about getting dead sinners into heaven, because that’s not what this show is about.

you’re more than welcome to hate him after seeing the way he exerted power over a being whose soul he owns, but you’re doing the media you’re watching a disservice by writing it off so quickly. if you don’t like to be uncomfortable watching media, watch something else. this is an uncomfortable show, it handles uncomfortable topics, and it’s going to be an uncomfortable ride, and if you’re not up for something like that, then you should take a break from it and pick up something else. you don’t have to get online and defend your own ideals while you watch a show that goes against your ideals.

at first, i planned to make it between J and sebas but upon reflection, i think sebas will have too little self-confidence to even try pursuing MC when he finds out his opponent is their borderline insane childhood best friend. the real deal will be J vs the detective because J isn’t about to lose to a two-penny hotshot detective and the detective will have too much fun rising to the challenge of making the MC choose them.

do i think it’s going to become an angsty little emotional shit show as everyone gets too involved and hearts break one by one? yes, but i will never turn down a challenge to make my characters suffer as much as possible 😈

i’ve been watching my friend play p5 royal for a bit now and i’ve decided that it’s the ideal way to play p5 not because of any story changes or what have you, but because you can unlock isanagi-no-ookami (the god final persona from p4) for basically free at any level and then just myriad truths your way through the rest of the game and it’s the funniest thing in the world

#space rambles #persona 5 royal #we realized this on like our third visit to kamoshida’s palace #and this guy literally DECIMATES EVERYTHING he’s doing at least 400-500 damage to every enemy on any hit #and he replenishes all sp in between battles so you can MILK HIM #we were playing for the story anyways but seeing mona be like ‘oh no these guys are tough!’ and then decimating them in one hit #was making us lose it so we just have him forever now #we could only use him once against kamoshida though so we had to fight him normally #however by the time we got to madarame we had enough sp and items to use him 2-3 times in a battle #so we literally fought madarame in under 10 minutes #this is speedrunning at its finest (laziest)#we also have multiple counters running for this run through #right now they’re the for real counter and the someone says ‘i’m gonna kill kamoshida’ counter #we didn’t have one for madarame’s palace so we need to make a new counter for the next one #but yeah p5r has been so fun #my friend who’s playing it has played the whole thing #one of the people who i’m watching with has played through most of p5 but never finished it and also has never played royal #and then me and my other friend are going in basically blind #ryuji’s my favorite btw #this turned into me just ranting about playing games with my friends because it’s fun lol #but yeah play with izanagi it’s SO funny

Was Anyone But You a good Much Ado About Nothing adaptation? No, not at all, but fuck it was fun!

#y’all know I have many thoughts about this play and these characters #but even though the movie didn’t completely live up to my expectations as an adaptation #I still really enjoyed it!#and I really despise all those people making posts about how sydney sweeney can’t act #idk it seems a little rude #my main problem is how they messed up the benedick and beatrice characterization and dynamic #I love that they played up the ex lovers thing (which is left up to interpretation in the play)#and i love love queer Hero and Claudio!!!#but their hatred of each other didn’t really pack the same punch as in the original #I suppose I wish they weren’t afraid to make the characters bigger assholes?#ya know- give them more flaws?#because right now the enemies part doesn’t really feel believable for big parts of the movie #They really could have leaned more into making Bea a bit of a cold and snappy mess (as she is in the original)#and Ben more of…ya know…actual human disaster who can’t commit #both of their characters in the play are driven by their desire never to marry and their distrust for the opposite sex #They included this a bit with Bea (her not believing in true love and all that)#but her break up with Jonathan (because he was too nice???) didn’t really convince me of it #They also keep insisting that Ben is a fuckboy but we never really see it demonstrated?#I personally don’t mind the fact that they changed up the whole ‘convincing them that the other secretly loves them’ bit #especially considering this is only loosely based on much ado #but I do think they made it a bit messy considering they included the gulling scenes but only as a joke #I wish they’d either leaned fully into the much ado plot or ditched it #I think what a lot of adaptations get wrong is that they’re either too afraid of leaning into their og media #or too afraid of seperating themselves from the og media #oh god I’ve reached the tag limit help #anyways- rant over #anyone but you #maria talks about things #much ado about nothing #beatrice x benedick

You know what I think would be a fun concept for a Kirby game? Kirby being able to travel to different planets on the Halberd to go explore with Meta Knight and his crew. I know that he can just fly different places by himself on his warp star, but I thought it’d be cool if he got to go on a little adventure with all of them.

The Halberd could be the hub world, I could see it acting sort of like Waddle Dee Town in Forgotten Land in that you’d be inside the Halberd when starting the game and from there you could select stages to play, play mini games, buy healing items and buffs, and other things like that. It would be nice if you could interact with Meta Knight and his crew outside of battle for once and see the inside of the Halberd without having to destroy it. What do you guys think of this? Would this be a cool concept for a game?

#text post #Kirby #we never get to see inside of the Halberd unless we’re destroying it #and we never get to see Meta Knight’s crew #everyone keeps saying ‘oh they’re all dead Kirby killed them in Revenge of Meta Knight’#well first of all I don’t think Meta Knight would be friends with Kirby in subsequent games if Kirby killed his crew #and we see the Meta Knights in that one attack in Planet Robobot so I would assume they’re still around and we just don’t see them #same with Sailor Dee and Captain Vul I don’t think that they’re dead either #like we literally see Vul abandon ship and I’m sure Sailor managed to get out of there too #not sure about Sword and Blade Knight though like Sword Knight hasn’t been used in a game since Super Star Ultra #we only see Blade Knight as a recurring enemy (and a friend in Star Allies)#anyway I think it would be neat to have a game where you can go in the Halberd and interact with the crew #and then Kirby can visit different planets to go on adventures #this is just my headcanon but I have a headcanon that Meta Knight has a little room for Kirby set up on the Halberd #it’s a place where Kirby can stay and sleep whenever he comes to visit lol #if a game like this was made I could see them putting a room for Kirby on the Halberd and it would act like his house in Forgotten Land #so he could sleep in there to regain health and also decorate it with collectibles
