stop the world just to stop the feeling
The night before Maddie and Chimney's wedding, Buck and Eddie talk on a balcony. | 1.5k | buddie | ao3
Eddie’s just uncapped his second beer when he hears footsteps behind him, so familiar he recognizes who it is by sound alone.
“Hey,” he says, as Buck sidles into view, arms coming to rest on the balcony railing beside him. He’s got a drink in his hand, too - one of those fruity vodka seltzers that Eddie’s reluctantly started stocking in the bottom drawer of his fridge. “Couldn’t sleep?”
Buck fiddles with the tab on his can, the silver of it reflecting in the moonlight. “Something like that.”
His shirt is slightly too big, slipping down just enough to expose the sharp jut of his collarbone, the dark bruise forming on the edge of it. Eddie’s eyes fly to it without permission, and Buck flushes red.
“It’ll be covered by the suit tomorrow, promise.”
“Mm.” Eddie takes another sip of his beer, ignoring the sour way it curdles in his stomach. “Good. Think Chim’s one incident away from going full groomzilla.”
“Can you blame him?”
“Not at all,” Eddie admits, and Buck huffs a laugh. “You should have been me the night before Shannon and I got married. I was a wreck.”
He’d been alone, in the shitty little apartment they’d rented once they learned about Christopher, Shannon spending the night at her mom’s across town to help them cling to some ragged sense of propriety that neither of them truly believed in. It had been one of the most awful, stomachache-inducing nights he’d ever had up to that point in his life, and it wasn’t until he saw Shannon in the church the next day, glowing in a way that had nothing to do with the bump hidden under the folds of her white dress, that everything had finally clicked into place.
“Hi,” she had said, reaching out to squeeze his hand, and Eddie had let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.
Buck’s staring at him now, as if he can sense the myriad emotions playing out in Eddie’s head. “It’s so weird,” he says. “Maddie and Chimney have basically been married for a while now. But all of this just makes it feel so real.” He gestures a hand at the expansive hotel grounds, the ocean beyond. “I mean, my parents are here.”
Eddie knows. Eddie had done an exceptional job at ignoring them at the rehearsal dinner that night, tucked in the corner by himself, Marisol having gone to their room earlier with a headache.
He feels a brief, guilty flash about leaving her alone now, although she’d been snoring when he’d crept past Chris on the sofa bed and out into the light of the hallway. He wonders, idly, if he should have left a note.
“They seem to be behaving,” he offers, which is about all of the goodwill he’s able to give the Buckley parents at any given time. Buck makes a face at him, and he adds, half-teasing, “for now.”
As far as he knows, they haven’t said a word so far to Buck about Tommy. He should probably ask, but somehow he can’t make his mouth form the words.
Buck drums his fingers against the balcony, quiet. “Do you ever think about it?”
What, fighting your parents? Eddie almost jokes, but he knows that’s not what Buck’s asking. “About getting married again?”
“Or getting married at all,” Buck says, and there’s something in his face, something suspiciously like longing, that has Eddie taking another gulp of his beer. “Like, big reception, flowers. The whole nine yards.”
“I wouldn’t do a big reception,” Eddie says, shuddering. “Just in the backyard, or something.”
Buck cracks a smile. “You do have a nice backyard.”
“You’re just saying that because you did all the landscaping,” Eddie says, bumping their shoulders together. “I had to weed it the other day though, so I should at least get partial credit.”
Buck looks sheepish at that, which wasn’t what Eddie was going for, but also wasn’t not what he wanted to happen. “I meant to come do it this week, I’ve just been -”
“Busy,” Eddie finishes for him, which isn’t fair, not really. Not when Buck is still over at his house most days, not when he hasn’t missed a single one of his afternoons out with Christopher. It’s just that there’s now a new purple marker in his kitchen, carefully outlining Buck’s availability on the calendar.
Eddie’s never had to schedule Buck in before. Not with Taylor, or Natalia, or even Ali, way back when.
Combine that with the fact that Buck’s now asking about marriage…
Eddie drains the last of his beer. “You should get some sleep. You’ve got a big day tomorrow.”
“Yeah,” Buck agrees, but stays where he is, shoulder still pressed against Eddie’s. “Hey - uh. We’re good, right?”
“Buck, you’ve already apologized.” And grovelled, and apologized again, until Eddie was back from medical leave and working with the 118 again.
“Not about that.” Buck shakes his head, the movement bringing him closer to Eddie still, their forearms nearly overlapping on the railing. “I mean - about me. And Tommy, I guess.”
And Eddie - Eddie will be the first to admit it took him a second to come to terms with it, to fully wrap his head around the idea of Buck with a man and, more specifically, Buck with Tommy. But he’d hugged Buck, and stumbled his way through some approximation of support, and then gone home and researched until his eyes were burning and he’d bookmarked every tab he could find about bisexuality and being a good ally - so. He thinks he’s been doing okay, overall. Certainly not poorly enough to make Buck question if he’s been harbouring secret homophobic tendencies all this time.
“You know I’m good with that,” he says, and means it. “And you and Tommy seem - really good. So if you’re happy, I’m happy.”
Buck’s eyebrows crinkle together, and Eddie has to resist the fanatical urge to reach over and smooth them out. “I know. I know you are. But something else just seems - wrong.”
“With me?”
“With us,” Buck says, voice veering toward frustration. “Come on, Eddie. You know you feel it too.”
Something thumps in Eddie’s chest, like his heart is suddenly trying to beat out of his chest. “Buck, I promise nothing’s changed-”
“But something has,” Buck says. “And I don’t know what, and it’s driving me insane, and every time I’m at work or at the gym or even with Tommy-” Wait, what? Eddie thinks, panicked -  “I’m lost in my own head, wondering how the fuck I managed to mess up the most important relationship in my life.”
“You didn’t fuck anything up,” Eddie says, honest. “No one did. It’s just - growing pains. You’re in a relationship, I’m in a relationship - it’s natural that we maybe don’t come first for each other anymore.”
Buck stares at him, the corner of his eyes suspiciously red. “We both know you don’t actually believe that.”
He doesn’t, but they’re veering into dangerous territory now. “Buck-”
“Why is it different now?” Buck says. “We’ve both dated people at the same time before. Taylor and Ana, Marisol and Natalia. Why is this different?”
Eddie doesn’t feel like he’s capable of breathing. “Buck-”
“It’s not because I’m with Tommy,” Buck says, raking a hand through his hair. “Or that I’m bi. It’s not actually any of it, is it, Eddie?”
He doesn’t sound angry, just - resigned. Tired. The beer bottle is clammy against Eddie’s palm.
“You never answered my question earlier,” Buck says. “About if you would get married again.”
When Eddie speaks, his voice feels like sandpaper. “Maybe. If it was the right person.”
“Is Marisol the right person?”
“Is Tommy?”
Buck flinches, minuscule. “I asked first.”
“You know what my answer is, Buck,” Eddie says, and he’s tired, so tired.
“You know mine too,” Buck says, soft.
He does know. Just like he knows Buck’s favourite song, favourite dinner, favourite feel-good rom-com. Just like he knows that Buck will spend all of tomorrow night dancing with Tommy, but he’ll save one dance for Christopher, spinning him around the middle of the room while Eddie watches. Just like how he knows -
“Eddie,” Buck says, and Eddie realizes how close they are now, facing each other with the moon still high overhead, lips a hairsbreadth apart. “We can’t.”
Eddie can feel Buck’s exhale against his lips. “I know,” he says. Taking a step back feels like swimming against a riptide, but he manages to get his limbs to cooperate eventually. “We should head back in.”
Buck swallows, chin bobbing as he nods. “Yeah. I’ll - uh. See you tomorrow?”
There’s something here, slipping out of Eddie’s grasp. He doesn’t think either of them knows quite how to cling on to it.
“See you tomorrow,” he echoes, and then Buck’s turning toward the door, back to the hallway that’ll lead him to his room, to Tommy in his bed.
Eddie waits until he’s fully out of sight before he follows.

your way or nothing at all [9-1-1 | Eddie Diaz | 1/1]
1500 words character study | mild angst | weddings | background buck/tommy, eddie/marisol | pre-relationship buddie | not quite a feelings realization for eddie but he's getting there
-
In the quieting dark, Eddie lingers by the tables, the empty chairs pushed together in a cluster for a conversation long since abandoned. It's late enough that people are starting to filter out into the night, and pretty much everybody left is crowded at the open bar or swaying on the dance floor. At the high table, Maddie has Buck's suit jacket draped over her shoulders and her cheek tipped against Chim's shoulder, and he's looking down at her with a dopily besotted expression that Eddie can clock even from here.
It makes him feel like—something, some kind of nostalgia for the wedding he never got to have with Shannon. That whole day felt like being hustled through a play that he never learned his lines to. Shannon was three months pregnant and deep in the throes of vicious morning sickness that was not improved by the catering or the stress of the day, so he spent their wedding night holding back her hair in the honeymoon suite his parents paid for and trying desperately to feel like he had a single fucking clue what he was doing. Trying to feel like a man and a husband and a father-to-be and mostly feeling like a complete fraud.
They deserved better. Both of them. Now, in this moment, after this day, it soothes more than it stings to watch Maddie and Chim hold onto each other so easily.
The song changes, and he watches a swirl of motion on the bar side of the dance floor, the particular energy that's easily identifiable as Buck even before he emerges from the crowd. Normally, maybe Eddie would gravitate in, but Buck's got a hand linked together with Tommy's, and they're laughing, and so he stays where he is. Just watches.
It's sweet, a little fumbling as Buck very obviously tries to figure out the logistics of slow-dancing with another guy. Tommy says something in a low voice and settles a palm on his hip, and Buck ducks his head, laughing, and leans into him.
It's sweet. It is. Eddie's throat fucking aches.
He doesn't know why, not really. Maybe it's the smile on Buck's face, wide and giddy and almost embarrassingly bright. He never smiled at Natalia like that, or Taylor. Maybe Ali, but the truth is that back then Eddie wasn't looking for it. Back then, he was so caught up in everything with Shannon, and he and Buck were barely more than friendly coworkers, as strange as that idea seems now.
He probably smiled at Abby like that. Eddie wasn't around for that relationship, only the aftermath, but he can imagine it. You don't hurt that badly when someone leaves you unless you really fucking loved them.
"You would not believe the line for the bathroom," Marisol says from behind him, and Eddie jolts like he just grabbed a high-voltage wire. He tries to spin it into something graceful as he turns to face her, but he's pretty sure it doesn't work, and also pretty sure that he shouldn't be feeling quite so jumpscared at the sight of his girlfriend. His heart is pounding. He rubs his knuckles against his sternum, and Marisol asks, "You okay?"
"Yeah," he says. "Sorry. You startled me."
"No, it's fine." She smiles at him, and it's pretty. She looks pretty, in a blue dress that looks black in this light, little metallic threads picked through and glittering. It hugs the curves of her body in a way that Eddie feels obligated to notice, and so he does, and when he looks her in the eye again she's smiling wider, and that's pretty too and Eddie—
Eddie still feels like a fucking fraud.
"I got you a beer," Marisol says. She's got a glass of wine in her other hand. White wine, lipstick marks on the rim.
Eddie smiles back and takes the bottle she hands him. "Thanks."
"I wasn't sure what you'd want." She grins at him, flirty. "You'll have to tell me if I made a bad guess."
He sips the beer. It's a lager, hoppy and astringent in a way that leaves a bitter aftertaste on his tongue. He takes another drink and smiles around the grimace his mouth wants to make. "It's perfect. Thank you."
The pleased relief in her smile doesn't make the lie feel any better. He takes another sip and sets the bottle down, and Marisol settles her hip against his chair, close enough that he can feel the warmth of her body. Close enough that he could wrap an arm around her thighs and pull her into his lap, if he wanted to do that. He shifts forward instead, leaning his elbows against the table, and she lets out a quiet sound and sets her glass down to sit in the chair next to him. The music switches over from Christina Perri to what Eddie is pretty sure is Savage Garden, and on the dance floor Tommy says something that makes Buck laugh and pull him closer.
"They're cute together," Marisol observes. "Buck and, um… Tommy?"
Eddie's fingers twitch on his beer bottle. "Yeah."
"I didn't know that he was, you know…" she trails off. Eddie looks over at her, and she adds, "Not that there's anything wrong with it! I just, I thought he had a girlfriend."
"They broke up. He dates guys too," Eddie says, more emphatically than is really necessary. Like this is a truth that he's always known instead of something Buck told him two weeks ago in the loft, quiet and careful like he was afraid of how Eddie would react. Like he was afraid of Eddie.
It was a date, we were on a date.
So it's new for Buck, too. Not just him. But still.
It feels like something he should have known.
"Okay," Marisol says. The corners of her mouth tighten, and she takes a pointed sip of her wine. "I didn't know that, is all."
I didn't know either, Eddie imagines saying, but the words strangle themselves in his throat just the same as, Actually, I don't like lagers, and, I don't really want company tonight, did. He wonders how the hell Buck does it—just opens his mouth and lets the truth spill out. Eddie can only manage that when it's for other people. Never for himself.
"Sorry," he says out loud. "It's been… a day."
Marisol's face softens a little, and he feels like shit about that, too. It has been a day, is the thing. He woke up in a bathtub, more hungover than he's been in at least a decade, and after that was a wild goose-chase through the desert to retrieve Chim in time for the wedding, and all that is plenty of reason for him to be off his game now. It's just that somehow it also feels like a fucking lie.
On the dance floor, Buck has his cheek pressed to Tommy's. He says something, and Tommy's shoulders shake with laughter, and then they both turn, moving easily together into a kiss. It's quick and tender, and Eddie abruptly feels like the worst kind of voyeur for watching it happen. He turns his head away and finds Marisol looking at him.
The music changes again. TLC, he's pretty sure, because Chim is deep down a very basic Gen X music kind of guy. Or maybe it was Maddie's pick, who knows. Anyway. It's a little more upbeat, but still slow enough to dance to.
"You, uh." He clears his throat, and finds a smile that feels almost right. "Come on, you wanna dance before they close it all down? They're playing our song."
"This is our song?" Marisol asks, but she's laughing. "I don't even think I was born yet when it came out."
Eddie shrugs and holds out a hand. "It could be our song. Maybe for tonight it's just a good song to dance to."
That must have been the right thing to say. She smiles, sets her wine down, and slips her hand into his, letting him tug her to her feet. They wind their way through the chairs to the dance floor, and under the string lights she settles easily into his arms.
I know you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all, rasps the singer in a sweetly smoky voice, as Eddie closes his eyes, and sways, and breathes, but I think you're moving too fast.
I think you're moving too fast.
He breathes in, and out, and opens his eyes. Marisol smiles up at him, and he smiles back, then cuts his eyes away. There are still a handful of people left on the dance floor with them: Athena and Bobby, swaying together like they're in their own little world, a couple of Buckley cousins with their dates. Buck and Tommy are gone, though, and Eddie almost cranes his head through the crowd to see where they got to before he catches himself.
"To tell you the truth," Marisol says. "I really don't think this is our song."
"Alright, well, we can find another one," Eddie says, and she laughs and sways into him, and he holds onto her, and when he closes his eyes, it's fine; it all feels fine.

(Part 1)
After a long evening of important conversations about single parenting, ‘where their relationship was going’, Shannon was feeling reassured and content. That was until Eddie let it slip that Venom had an interest in being…involved with her.
She adjusted herself on the couch. Her red dress rode up her plump thighs, her hands played with the stem of her wine glass. Eddie sat opposite of her, looking slapdash but handsome. In a wrinkled shirt with rolled up sleeves, and a pair of gray trousers. He looked so human, which made Venom’s head floating between them seem all the more strange, and alien. His white eyes were shiny and reflective. His teeth were cluttered, jagged, and completely intimidating.
Shannon laughed a little nervously and asked, “Wait, how that would even work. You know…the three of us?”
Venom wrapped his sleek tendrils around her back and pulled her closer to Eddie. Her skirt was almost entirely pooled around her hips. Venom spoke softly into her ear. As softly as he could with his deep otherworldly voice.
“I can show you. You’ve never seen the things I can do.”
Shannon’s own softer human voice shook, she asked “Have you ever been with a woman before-a human woman?”
“I’m Dylan’s father too, you know.”
Eddie looked between the two of them, unsure of how Shannon was responding to Venom. They’d never interacted like this before. He had always been the intermediary.
Eddie told Venom, “Alright buddy, ease up a bit.”
Eddie then spoke to Shannon, “I know you’re nervous, and if you want to turn to the door and bolt you can go for it. But before you do, you should know, we really like you. And if you give us a chance I’m sure we can change your mind about the whole alien thing.”
Shannon doesn’t say anything, she takes a small brave breath, picks up Eddie’s hand, and takes him to the bedroom.
Eddie’s apprehension faded quickly.
Eddie asked, “So I guess, uh, a little bit of freakiness turns you on huh?”
Shannon laughed and said, “You don’t know the half of it.” Shannon meant freaky in a very different way than Eddie and Venom did. She had some experience with deep throating and anal, maybe some water sports. This was freaky on a whole other level.
As they entered the bedroom, Venom’s tendrils appeared out of Eddie’s body. The appendages started to slide underneath her clothes, lifting them from her body expertly. Her dress was pulled down, her tights slid down to her ankles, her hair released from its small claw clip. She became alert, she was being touched in so many places by Venom’s cold tendrils it’s overwhelming.
Suddenly she was lifted off of the ground by Eddie while Venom slipped her clothes off of her body entirely. She starts panting, she couldn’t keep up.
Eddie leaned in closely and whispered, “Don’t be afraid, I’ve got you.”
Venom leaned into her other ear, “She’s not afraid Eddie, I can smell her.”
Venom growled and licked a line up her neck and jaw with his strong long tongue. She shivers violently, the sensation so foreign but so tantalizing. She stifled a meek moan. Venom laughed, and the sound rumbled in Eddie’s chest.
“She wants me.”
Eddie chides him, “She wants us, don’t you baby?”
Eddie pulls Shannon closer, burying his face in her neck and littering it with kisses.
Shannon stutters, “Yes, uh, yes. Sorry I’m just...would you two give it a rest for a minute!”
Eddie and Venom stop suddenly, worried they’ve done something wrong. Shannon pushed against them slightly, giving herself room to breathe. They had to work up to that kind of intensity. It was too much.
Shannon shook her choppy hair out of her face and started undressing Eddie. She pulls his pants around his ankles and pushes him down on the bed before ripping his pants off. He pushed himself up on his elbows, a wide smile on his face.
Eddie snickers, “Yeah I like that.”
Shannon smiled, “Shut up.”
Shannon crawled on top of Eddie and started licking and sucking in his earlobe. Her teeth graze the sensitive flesh of his neck, and now it’s her turn to make him shiver. This was much more comfortable, being in control.
“You two keep acting like I’m some flustered schoolgirl. You’ve got all the tricks and I’m just going to lay here and be amazed huh? Wrong.”
Shannon’s fingers drag down his chest and end up on his boxers. She slips her fingers beneath the waistband and grabs hold of his hard cock. She strokes up and down gently.
She continues, “I got laid more in college than you two have in your entire life. Now lay back and let me show you what I can do.”
Eddie laughed, and replied with a satisfying, “Yes ma’am.”
Shannon heard nothing from Venom. She hoped she’d shut him up, but in reality she knew he was lying in wait, biting his tongue.
Shannon pulled Eddie’s boxers down with his help. She shifted herself lower. She knelt on the floor and put her face an inch above his crotch. She wrapped her hands around his length and started pumping. Eddie moaned with relief. As soon as she got a steady pace she took out her tongue and licked him from ball sac to tip. Eddie nearly bucked off of the bed, and the moan he let out thrilled her even more. He was making him weak, making this strong man, this superhero, moan and writhe beneath her. She could taste the power.
Eddie wrapped his fingers in her hair and gently eased her away from his balls and onto his length. She adjusted her throat to his length, he’s a good size but not uncomfortable. She ran her tongue down his shaft as she wet his dick with her saliva. Her mouth made sharp wet noises that made Eddie’s cock throb.
Eddie looks down at Shannon, “Damn she knows what she’s doing, huh V?”
Venom laughed in a sickening and lingering way that made Shannon’s confidence wane.
“We’ll see my love.”
Shannon feels Eddie’s body adjust around her, the thighs she rested her arms on were suddenly growing, turning black, expanding all around her. The length in her mouth also grew, what used to fit comfortably between her cheeks was now extending into the free space between them. When the top of Venom’s length hits the back of her throat she gagged.
Shannon’s head shot up and glared at Venom, who laid back casually with his arms behind his head, his body eating up the whole length of the bed and then some.
Shannon scowled at Venom's cocky smirk, his teeth glistening. “No fair.” She complained
“You’re so nice to Eddie, what about me? I’ve been waiting as long as he has. Watching you from behind his eyes, feeling your body beneath his hands. Don’t I deserve some…attention?”
Shannon sat back on her haunches and laughed, “Oh, you want attention, is that it? You’re feeling left out?”
Venom hisses, his tongue rattling like a snake.
“Yesssssss.”
Shannon laughed and Venom sat up more quickly than she expected based on his sheer size. Suddenly he was towering over her. Her knees were still on the ground, she felt so incredibly small, so vulnerable.
Venom took his clawed hand and gently and lovingly stroked her cheek with it. The sensation was smooth and unlike skin, but it was comforting. She leaned into his touch and enjoyed the affection. The gap between them was closing, the distance between Eddie and Venom coming together.
Venom asked honestly, “Are you afraid of me?”
Shannon became determined. She shook her head ‘no’ and commanded, “Lie down”.
Venom settles himself and Shannon lowers her mouth onto his length. It’s huge and wet with precum, he is hard and ready for her. She can’t swallow the whole thing but does her best with her hand to substitute.
Venom interjects, “It’s not…too big for you is it?”
Shannon says stubbornly, “Of course not.”
“Good, I’ll enjoy trying to make it fit.”
Shannon stretched her throat to its absolute limit. His size was unimaginably girthy, her lips barely went down ⅓ of his entire length. Her teeth grazed skin but it didn’t seem to bother him. She pumped her head up and down, trying to mimic what she did for Eddie. Her hand worked tirelessly down his shaft.
After only a moment Venom shrunk away and Eddie returned. He picked her head up, her eyes filled with tears from the strain and he kissed her forehead lovingly.
Eddie sighs, “Alright that’s enough, I think we should take a break for a bit.”
Shannon wiped the tears away with the back of her hand. She sat up angrily this time. She had just gotten a rhythm going, and Eddie came out to ‘give her a break’. “I don’t know if you two are trying to drive me crazy, but it’s certainly working!”
Eddie held his hands up incredulously. “What the hell? What did I do?”
Shannon threw her hands down on the bed, “You bastards, you have me suck the biggest dick I’ve ever seen, tease me with the longest tongue I’ve ever seen, and you want to take a break?! I’m losing my mind over here boys!”
Eddie’s expression turned from concern to hunger as Venom took over again. His face grows that terrifying set of teeth and he wets them with his truly impressive tongue.
“You underestimated her Eddie, she loves the monster just like you do. You had better be ready, little human.”
Her whole world turned upside down and she saw a black blur move above her, pinning her down. Her shoulders pressed painfully into the cheap mattress.
Shannon squealed as Venom spread her legs and licked the tip of her clit with his tongue. She couldn’t hold back the pornographic moans as Venom showed her how long his tongue really is.
She fisted the sheets and cried out in pleasure while Eddie admired the view from behind Venom's eyes, God she is beautiful as she writhed around in the sheets.
Venom stopped playing around and fucking her with his tongue more roughly. He had incredibly precise control over the appendage and Shannon could feel him dragging it along her walls. She was soaking, both his tongue and the sheets. Everytime her hips threatened to buck off the bed, a new appendage shot out to hold her down. He was everywhere, all over her. Binding her, trapping her. When she was near total bliss he used his tentacles to play with her nipples. They were so skilled and knew exactly how to twist and pull to make her cry out.
Shannon could barely breathe, “You feel so fucking good.”
“I know, delicious thing, I know. Are you prepared to take something much bigger?”
Shannon tried to think through the lusty fog. She stumbled with her words, “Eddie first.”
Venom didn’t complain as Eddie fronts again.
Eddie leaned down and saw her wrecked and wet body. He kissed every part of Shannon that he could find, “You’re doing so good baby, god, I don’t know how you do it.”
Eddie grabs his length and strokes it before lining it up with her hole. What Venom did turned him on just as much as her.
“Did V make you wet baby, did you love it?”
Shannon moaned, “Yes, yes, he was amazing, I want you too please.”
Eddie shoved his length into her easily. She’d been properly prepared, and ever since she had her daughter she didn’t need as much preparation as she once did.
Eddie rocked into her and fell into rhythm easily. He grabbed her legs and hiked them over his shoulders when he lost her cunts tight grip.
Eddie shivered when he hit a good spot. The sensation traveling through his entire body. His eyes were shut tight, “Oh fuck you’re so hot. How long have you been waiting for this huh?”
Shannon nearly tore Eddie’s skin digging her nails into his shoulders. She cried out, “So long!”
Eddie and Shannon keep at a good pace, enjoying the feeling of their bodies finally intertwined and skin against skin. There was no music, no ambient sound, just the rocking of the bed and the sound of wet flesh between them. Eddie was strong, not unlike Venom. His pace and stamina was nearly superhuman.
Venom growled, “I need her Eddie, let me out.”
Eddie tried to soothe him, “Give me a minute, V, she’s not-“
Venom crawled through Eddie’s skin and suddenly Shannon is more full than she ever has been. She seizes up around his cock and feels like she’s going to burst.
She hears his chest rattle with another growl but she’d shut her eyes tight, focusing on keeping herself calm as her walls are stretched to capacity.
Shannon kept her eyes shut, unsure if she could handle seeing a dark monster above and inside her. She took a deep breath, “I’m trying Venom, please go slow!”
Venom resisted his urge to plunge into her. It wasn’t fair. She looked so happy taking Eddie, and all he wanted was a chance to make her that happy. To make her that blissful and wanton and slutty just like she’d been for him.
“I forget, you humans are so breakable.”
Venom moved his hips gently, his cock pumping as softly as he could manage, and still every time his hips moved towards Shannon her body seized up in pain. There was a part of him that enjoyed seeing her suffer. That wanted to make her cry and scream for him. But now was not that time.
Eddie was as desperate to have Shannon accept Venom as he was. He gave Venom a suggestion in his mind.
Venom agreed and picked up Shannon’s body and sat her on top of his lap. His legs rested beneath his hind quarters.
Venom took her hand and placed it on her lower stomach. She can feel the outline of his enormous cock on her stomach and she knew that it thrilled him. It felt almost frightening to think about how much she had stretched for him.
She gasped, “I-I can feel it. I can feel you, I–”
“Shh shh shh.”
The sound reassured her instantly. Venom held her close and supported her entire weight with his arms. She was not as small as she was when she was younger, but in his monstrous arms she weighs nothing.
His whisper sounded like a deep rattle, “Ride me.”
Shannon knew that this was an invitation to set the pace, she started out slow and worked her way up until she loosened up. Just enough that the stretching is no longer uncomfortable.
Venom drooled watching her. Her brows drawn together with focus, her hands dug into his shoulders to support herself, her skin sheened with sweat. His slick saliva dripping down his chest and hers, his white eyes watched her every move.
Venom smiled, “Such plump delicious flesh. You would make a tasty snack.”
Shannon felt a shiver of fear go up her spine. He wouldn’t be allowed to have her fear. Instead she spat back at him, “Not until you make me cum you pussy!”
Venom snarled at the challenge and threw Shannon onto her back.
“You’re lucky I like you little one. It will only hurt, a little.”
The time for gentleness was over. He plowed into her, he either ignored or was incited by her screams. He jackhammered his cock into her until her mind almost felt numb with overstimulation. Real tears were streaming down her face, her voice croaked from the effort. Her fingers dug into his arms.
A tendril wrapped around her mouth, silencing her. He leaned his enormous head down. Venom’s voice shook with excitement. His voice boomed, so loud and so wild she feared for her life.
“We’re just getting started little human. So much more of you to DEVOUR!”
Shannon shivered as she came vaginally around his cock, she screamed as she finished. Her walls pulsed around him, encouraging her partner to finish. Venom’s hands grasped her hips painfully against his. His cock was harder than ever, filled to burst. Venom punched the mattress beneath her, shredding it as he pumped her full of cum. It was hot and messy and she swore she could feel it crawling inside of her. Both of their bodies shook violently.
Venom recoils and Eddie is left, still cumming from his own cock as he pulls out of her. “You’re so fucking crazy I love it.”
Shannon felt the soreness settle on suddenly as her orgasm passed. All of that stretching did more damage than she thought and she was suddenly overcome with discomfort that dragged her pleasure down beneath its wave.
Shannon grunted, “Yeah that was pretty fucking crazy huh?”
Eddie gave Shannon space to sit up, he watched her face contort in pain and suddenly he’s concerned. Venom hadn’t been with a woman since Anne, and even then Anne was competitive even with herself. She would have never admitted that Venom could hurt her. Her pride was too great.
They didn’t know her the way they did Anne, their and Shannon’s first time together was impulsive and full of heady chemistry, but who knows how she felt now that the tension had been broken.
Eddie swallowed thickly, “Hey you uh, you doing alright there?”
Shannon winced as she touched her cunt, “Yes and no.”
Eddie sat cautiously next to her, looking at her face for reassurance, “To be honest I’m gettin’ a little concerned here. Was that the best sex you ever had or did we just massively fuck up?”
Shannon laughs abortively, “Best sex I’ve ever had no doubt, I’m just really really sore. I haven’t been stretched out like that since…ever.”
Eddie kissed Shannon, he stroked her face trying to comfort her, “You were such a champ, I can’t tell you how impressed I am.”
Shannon asked, “What about you, Venom?”
Venom’s head whipped around the side of Eddie, he nuzzles her face like a cat and she giggles.
“What about me?”
Shannon asks, “How was it for you?”
Venom laughs, “Would you care for me to show you how I feel?”
Shannon patted his head, “Later, I need to freshen up, and take a Tylenol. Maybe a shot of tequila if I’m being honest.”
Eddie nods, “Yeah, yeah, whatever you need.”
Eddie helped Shannon up, she went to the bathroom and rinsed off in the shower. She gently lapped the water into her cunt as she tried to cool down the sensitive nerves. She dried off and decided she doesn’t want anything else touching her lower half.
She moved slowly out of the bathroom and saw Eddie and Venom pouring whiskey into glasses. They’re talking to each other but she couldn’t make out any distinct phrases.
Shannon smiled weakly when their face landed on her, “I know you’re feeling ambitious boys but I think I’m tapped out for the night.”
Eddie looked concerned once more, “Here, take a drink, let’s sit down, no more funny business.”
Shannon said, “If this is going to become a regular thing I’m going to need to get some desensitizing gel or something. My cunt is wrecked.”
Venom snarks, “Oh yeah I bet it is.”
Eddie snapped, “Would you shut up genius? You almost broke her in half. Show some respect.”
Venom's tentacles slithered out and picked up Shannon and placed her on the couch. He slid a blanket onto her and placed the whiskey in her hand.
Shannon smiled, “Mmm thank you.”
The three of them decide to watch a movie but the both of them were asleep before it ended.

9-1-1 fans walk with me here (this is just a bit of fun)
So the general consensus from some set photos is
1. Shannon is back in some capacity
2. The Diaz parents are around
Eddie could get hurt OR his parents could just be in town I feel like this works better if he was hurt in some way though, so his parents are there maybe they worry about Christopher and who’s taking care of him etc etc
In a similar way to Buck’s coma dream Eddie finds himself thinking/dreaming/hallucinating of the life with Shannon that he COULD have had but the end goal realisation is that isn’t actually what he WANTS.
His parents are putting that pressure on him to fill that idea of a void in his life that Shannon “would” have filled.
And he loved Shannon he really did but it’s okay to love somebody and let them go, sometimes it’s best for the both of you.
So his parents being around to push this idea that he has to fill some sort of wife/motherly void left in Christopher’s life and it being used as a plot device to help Eddie realise what he actually wants is such a natural way to bring up the will.
Buck is Christopher’s guardian, if anything were to happen to Eddie Buck would be there no matter what to take care of their boy. But the Diaz’s don’t know that.
Such a part of Eddie’s strain with his parents relationship is how they wanted Christopher to stay with them so imagine them finding out that Christopher would be taken care of by Buck if anything ever did happen.
Eddie sticking to his decision, explaining to his parents he knows nobody will fight for Chris the way that Buck will.
The potential start of him processing that catholic guilt and finally taking a moment to understand what HE wants from his life, not the expectations that have been thrown on him.
Maybe evaluating the relationships he has and the roles which important people in his life play. I mean even he knows he hardly knows Marisol and us as the viewer share that sentiment. The way he has talked about the women in his life and struggled to communicate with them but with Buck it just flows, you know?
Wanna dress up as these two iconic 80’s characters and bicker about who’s the queer coded one? Sure. Want me to stay with you all night because I can tell you care about this so deeply and the idea of leaving never even crossed my mind? Of course.
Tumblr media
And this isn’t even about Buddie at the end of the day, I personally think the chemistry is undeniable and to see them go on that direction feels like it makes perfect sense. But Eddie Diaz dealing with the expectations he feels he has to live up to and finally realising he is allowed set his own expectations and goals that make him happy. That’s what’s important.

Ring around the rosie,
A pocket full of posies.
Ashes! Ashes!
We all fall down!
...
The Wizard of Oz:
You're out of the woods,
you're out of the dark, you're our of the night,
Step into the sun, step into the light.
Keep straight ahead for the most
glorious place on the face of the earth or the
sky.
Hold onto your breath, hold onto your heart, hold onto your hope,
March up to that gate and bid it open.
...
Eddie: Maybe I'm just not a therapy kind of guy.
Buck: Right, right... You prefer to work it out in the ring.
Eddie: There was no ring, Buck. There was a fence.
...
So, gates, or fences, rings? Sounds like a locked yard mystery. Maybe there's love, locked somewhere in there.
Ring around the rosie
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A pocket full of posies
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ashes, ashes
Tumblr media
We all fall down
Tumblr media
Interesting choice, Marisol's shirt. An image of a dragon (like Maleficent is) and a text that says 'Dreamed'... Yes, Maleficent's been busy cursing imposters, posies!
Ana of course was one, too. She dressed incredibly similarily to Shannon, the red dress with the white pattern is super similar to Shannon's. Kim is obviously one too.
And the way Tommy is reintroduced in an imposter-themed episode. Tommy, who like Eddie is also a firefighter, who was in the army like Eddie, who like Eddie also fights, and likes monster trucks, and on his first date with Buck says almost exactly the same line as Eddie does earlier to Buck's words..
"... Can't save someone from themselves, not if they don't want you to."
Eddie mutters: "Ain't that the truth..."
"Ain't that the truth, right Evan" is also what Tommy says, on the date, it's his reply to Buck inventing a story about him and Tommy being on their way to pick up hot chicks.
Anyway, after Eddie says the thing about there never being enough closet space, and Tommy goes "Ain't that the truth, Evan?"
It's really a subtle reference to the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz. The cowardly lion being someone who sings stuff like this:
Yeh, it's sad, believe me, Missy
When you're born to be a sissy
Without the vim and verve
But I could change my habits
Never more be scared of rabbits
If I only had the nerve
I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just an awful dandy-lion
A fate I don't deserve
But I could show my prowess
Be a lion, not a mouse
If I only had the nerve...
Anyway, in the end the Cowardly Lion finally finds his courage to help rescue Dorothy, and receives a medal of courage for it.
That is why "Ain't that the truth?" really does refer to pride and courage. Because it's very similar to something the Cowardly lion, in Wizard of Oz, the capricorn of queer subtext, repeats after he finds his courage!
"Read what my medal says:
"Courage".
Ain't it the truth? Ain't it the truth?"
So Tommy's and Eddie's lines... They are really sarcastic quips, and point out someone lacking courage or pride because the line is iconic words of a Cowardly lion....
And would be falsehood when the topic of the conversation is actually someone making silly, cowardly decisions instead of being someone who found their courage, and is being admired for that courage.

Eddie asks Marisol to babysit Chris so he can go shopping with Kim.
He lies about why he’s going out, of course. He tells them that he’s hanging out with Buck and Tommy. Telling them they’re going to do some Muay Thai together, which both seem to believe easily. Chris, however, is disappointed when Eddie tells him that he can’t come along. Eddie is surprised with himself that this lying is becoming easier and easier the more he does it. How one day he’ll tell Marisol he’s going to practice basketball when really he’s with Kim. And he’ll tell Kim the text he got from Marisol is from his babysitter letting him know how Chris is.
Kim tells him that she wants to go summer dress shopping and Eddie willingly goes with her. He wants to see what kind of clothes speak to Kim. So far there are painful similarities to her and Shannon. Her voice, her humor, her smile, the way she teases him right off the bat like they’ve always known each other – yet there are differences too. The way she’s more willingly to laugh at things and take things more lighthearted than Shannon. The way she doesn’t make everything into a battle with Eddie. Everything with Kim seems so easy and carefree. Almost like when he first started dating Shannon. It’s like magic.
“Are you sure you don’t want to wait outside on the mall bench?” Kim teases. Eddie is looking through dresses with Kim, trying to guess what she would like. So far, she’s picked out three pale blue dresses to try on in the changing room. A pair of strappy sandals are in Eddie’s hands. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a man who was actually interested in shopping with me before.”
Eddie blushes. “I just like to know what you like.”
That’s when he sees it. A yellow sundress.
Eddie pauses. It’s not exactly like that one. The sleeves are wider and the flowers are bigger than he remembers. But it’s long and flowy and it takes Eddie’s breath away just the same. He looks up at Kim hesitantly before showing the dress to her. “Hey, why don’t you try this on?”

My theory is that Eddie is going to be written as an ever straighter man in 7x05. Based on the leaks (however true they are), it seems like I’m going to be right, but I was thinking all of this before the leaks came out. I won’t say what they are, only the things I’ve been thinking for weeks or things that can be easily assumed based on writing and plot. (Also please don’t send me more spoilers, I want to have some surprise)
In s7 so far, Eddie has been seen as a guy who married a woman. I thought the line “you mean slept with,” was weirdly included to show that Eddie likes to sleep with women. Also he enjoys cars, martial arts, going to the bar, and basketball. Can queer men like these things? Of course, Tommy does, Buck does (mostly), but the point is that they’re seen as stereotypically straight-man stuff, which is why it’s more shocking that Tommy and Buck are queer. They’re giving Eddie more traits to make him ever more masculine. They mention his girlfriend a lot and show them standing pressed-up against each other.
We all know that Buck is going to come out to Eddie in his loft. I can 100% see them having Eddie being the very supportive straight best friend to Buck, because I think the show wants that dynamic of “queer man and best friend face no awkwardness, just support and love.” To show the audience that two men, even one who’s bi can still have a close best friendship with another man without it going romantic.
Oliver and Tim both said things along the lines of the crush not being on Eddie, no plans for buddie right now. Ryan said (around the time of shooting this episode) they’re going to be closer than ever, which I assumed weeks ago was that Eddie is going to call Buck brother in that loft scene. Closer than ever? They haven’t recently defined their relationship at all, so being referred to as brothers would definitely fit that mark. This also would create deniability for the writers not making buddie canon, because “they’re brothers.” Oliver also said “if one character realizing his bisexuality” and I know he was talking specifically about people’s reactions to Buck, but the singularity of it made me instantly think that he’s the only one exploring his sexuality this season.
Next, we know Eddie and Marisol have a sexy time moment in this next episode because the actress posted a picture. Easiest way for the audience to see Eddie as a straight man? Have sex with a woman. “But Buck had lots of sex with women and he’s bi!” True. But you have to think of it as a general audience, mainly straight, viewer. Woman = not gay. Especially with what (according to leaks) seems like the plot will be more about Eddie wanting sex than the other way around. We know he and Shannon had a good sex-life and that it’s implied that he and Ana hooked up at least once if not more. He’s no Buck 1.0, but when it comes to Eddie’s sex-life, the writers aren’t shying away from him being seen as a manly man.
In the promo we see him and Marisol at the restaurant and the one thing I noticed first was the fact that Edy’s shirt is low cut and her push-up bra is truly doing the most. Like half of her boobs are just totally out. Wardrobe dressed her to look all sexy (they very likely provided the bra too), to show that Eddie is a typical dude-bro with a hot female girlfriend. In an episode that Ryan mentioned included something about intimacy, and from what I know of the leaks, it’s really digging into the fact that men have sex with women and it’s all the show that Eddie is here for that.
If buddie ever goes canon, the earliest I can imagine things even starting on Eddie’s side would be season 8. I think Marisol is here to stay until further notice, which makes me sick, but I’m theorizing that the “looks at their relationship closer” thing will be him asking her to move in, because that’s the only thing it can be. From what we’ve seen and heard, their relationship is going good, and even though these writers have lost the plot (literally and metaphorically), because it’s been less than 5 months of dating and they’re still getting to know each other, they think that seems like the next step in their relationship. It once again will highlight the way they want Eddie to be seen as a macho guy. I know so many people are thinking that the writers are just putting Eddie through this relationship to show that he’s a repressed queer man, but i don’t agree. I mean, yeah he could been repressed, but I don’t think that’s why the writers are doing what they’re doing. I think we’re trying to find something that they’re not giving us, because what they’re giving us just feels so wrong with everything else we know about Eddie so far and where his story was leading to in s6.
Plot wise, buddie still made the most sense. Past tense. The end of season 6 really fucked with things to the point where had they gotten rid of both girlfriends, it would’ve been fine, but it still feels like Buck and Eddie are too separate right now for it to go romantic as it is right now. But as for partners, yeah, Buck and Eddie will always make the most sense for each other in theory. In practice though, the show does have to worry about ratings and hopefully the reactions to Buck show them that they don’t have to worry about it negatively affecting the show, but I just really don’t think that they’ll have Eddie be anything other than straight because they’ll lose fans that way. Granted it’s homophobic fans, and they’ll gain more queer fans, but when you think about the business side, the numbers would jump too much. I love how much we all love watching 911, but people watching through pirated links, illegal streaming sites, tumblr gifs, TikTok’s, and uploaded google files, while they are obvi massive fans, aren’t considered in the viewership counts. The show may gain a huge influx of viewers if Buddie happens, but the numbers they’re looking at aren’t tumblr users, they’re people watching on Hulu and live TV. Which tends to be people in older demographics, people they risk losing if they have the other “hot straight firefighter” “go gay.”
This isn’t to be negative. I love buddie. I love BuckTommy right now too. I’ll be so sad when Tommy leaves. I’m just trying to be realistic because I can see so many people getting their hopes up, and not just in a fun shipping way, but in a real way where they’re confident buddie is going to happen this season. I’m so scared for the show and everyone’s heartbreak when it doesn’t happen.

911 7x07
The family formed by Hen- Karen- Danny- Mara, they are a wonderful, beautiful family, they love each other so much, I love them too much
Maddie, chim and their daughter, every time I see scenes with the three of them as a family, my heart melts
Eddie I don't understand where they're going with this, in the sense then: I think he would like to create a family, so like find a mother after shannon, as if it's an “obligation” to Chris to grow up with a female figure, and in my opinion it's still due to his Catholic guilty. We know at the same time that he got married to shannon because she got pregnant so maybe, he loved shannon but not to create a family and he found himself let's say “forced” to have to create a family in a “forced” way ( I'm not saying he didn't want to, I'm saying maybe he imagined it later) because she got pregnant and then also because of the “duties” to the church let's say, in the sense the ideology of first marriage and then later make a child
We see him always looking in a girl as a hypothetical “mother” for chris , and in my opinion not taking into account if he himself may like her but he only cares if chris likes him that's why, with Ana (I think) when they had to choose a dress and the clerk said they were a nice family, he had a panic attack, because it's like at that moment he was really realizing they were a “family” with a child, his panic attack was like it was something he didn't want but he was forced, or, there's like he liked Ana but she wasn't that figure to be a “mother” to chris, however he was kind of trying to convince himself, so in my opinion as soon as he sees something let's say negative in his girlfriends, even that it's bullshit, he dumps them as if to find an excuse not to be together. Who knows maybe he thinks he is doing some damage to shannon's memory of chris, as if he is sort of replacing her in “starting a family” with another woman
For example with Marisol, as soon as she found out that she was a nun, and he wanted to dump her, even though it was not what he wanted, in my opinion it was due to both because of his Catholic guilty, but also as if he found an excuse to leave her so as not to get to that decisive step, so let's say to concretize a relationship, as if at first everything is fine, then the moment the relationship becomes more serious, until the move, there he starts to doubt the thing, and backtrack on his steps, as if he is still thinking about shannon, and can't get over somehow that she is gone, as if she was the only person he could create a family with. Maybe this time eddie likes/is interested in Marisol and maybe he sees that Chris is comfortable with her, so like he was trying to convince himself that she might be the one (?). But as soon as he saw kim (who looks like shannon) he found perhaps in her, the one who could “replace” even physically shannon, and let's say reform that family that was no longer there, that used to be there with shannon.
Then of course in general, it's kind of seen, that Eddie with women can't create a family, while with buck he can manage to be like a family, without having panic attacks and various things, so he's found to be quiet, in my opinion, of course they have their own special chemistry, and really they behave to be like a family when they are together with chris. What I'd like to say is that this thing happens not because eddie is in love with buck (I mean for now) but simply he (again for now, maybe) likes women so it's normal that he wants to create a familgia with a woman, and he sees buck as a best friend, as a person to be trusted enough to literally put him in the will, they have a bond that goes beyond friendship, that it's not necessarily a bond like they're in love, I think it's a bond like they're brothers, although not by blood, I think they would put their lives for each other. Going back to the earlier thought, I think eddie can find it more in peace to spend a “family” evening with him, and with chris, without worries, however he wants to find a woman, a “mother” for chris and so in relationships with women he is more let's say panicked.
As if in seeing kim, he remembered what it was like to live with shannon and those moments of happiness came back to his mind and he wants to relive them, as if he can only live those moments with a person who looks like shannon, and not with women who are different to her.
.
.
Three more episodes to go, we know that:
Bobby is going to meet a person who was there when that fire happened, and he makes it clear that he will be the villain for bobby and maybe this will connect to what they were showing a few weeks ago, the picture with 118 and maybe even tommy who were dressed up, like there was an award ceremony, maybe bobby has something to do with it?
Then we see a picture with buck with a kind of sad face looking at someone: either he finds out that something has happened to bobby, or is it maybe about eddie? Because from what I've read, in the eighth season eddie will have to work on himself and there will be no one there to help or comfort him; as if, either he's going to walk away (it seems impossible to me) or maybe the sense of saying that he's going to be alone fighting something, it's like it's a metaphor in the sense that only he can help himself and no one can do that, like he's going to have to fend for himself, but not because he's going to be alone physically, but like the “being alone” is an inward thing or something
Then I had read some theories about buck's apartment that may be on fire, maybe it's related to the guy who wants to hurt bobby for destroyed life that day, with the fire, and so he wants to make him pay, and that somebody maybe it will be buck (? ) because he is the one who is the most connected to bobby, like a son; and like if that hurting bobby is like setting fire to buck's apartment like it happened that time, and maybe (now I'm going to be against everything buddie ahahhah, just kidding I love you guys, I love both buck with tommy and buck with eddie ahhaha) if in case something happens to buck's apartment and like buck goes to live with tommy until he finds a new house (? ), or in case they get paid like some insurance in case of fire (?), that wouldn't be bad right? mo you all gonna hate me ahahaha I love you all
Maybe, going back to that eddie will find himself kind of alone in season 8, maybe because kind of everyone has settled down, in the sense that everyone has found a person to love, a partner, bobby and athena, hen and karen, chim and maddie, buck and tommy and kind of he finds himself alone, like he still has traumas to overcome, like the Catholic guilty and shannon's death (?)
Anyway, all that aside, I would like to see another date between tommy and buck or even a scene that they show them being together in the everyday, like taking a walk or something like that, quiet stuff

Buddie rambling and speculation (don’t like don’t read :))
I’ve got extreme buddie brain rot, and before this most recent episode I was genuinely like 80% convinced we were gonna get buddie endgame. I always thought it was going to take a while like end of season 8 or in season 9. But I think like every one else that last episode just baffled me. It’s so strange I mean we will see I guess where things are going to go it doesn’t completely change what I think might happen but boy does it confuse me.
Because to me Buck is primed and ready, like he’s ready for a serious relationship, he’s worked out his sexuality and yeah he’s with Tommy at the moment and is happy. Which I’m enjoying he should be able to have a sweet romance. However to me it always seemed like they were intentionally leaving little cracks in their relationship and those cracks if torn open always lead right to Eddie or Buddie. I’m aware I’m delusional. But like 7x04 I feel like we all know Buck was jealous of both Tommy and Eddie. Like that peacocking in gym was not for Tommy, but I do genuinely believe he wanted Tommys attention too. They also spend that whole episode drawing attention to the similarities between Eddie and Tommy. Then Eddie turns up on the date and in my opinion Buck wouldn’t have done the whole hype straight routine if it had been any other character (also don’t love Tommys closet joke or his leaving but also he should be able to protect his own peace).
Then arguably the most intriguing to me is the costumes at the beginning of 7x06 like I agree it’s not that big of a deal that Tommys not in a costume if he’s on call but what is a big deal is having Buck bring it up. Because idk about anyone else i wouldn’t have realised Tommy wasn’t wearing a costume if it wasn’t brought up, and like it would be so easy to put him in a patterned shirt or have a cute moment where buck makes fun of him not being dressed up then like give him some like fun 80s glasses or some shit like that could’ve been a cute moment but no they had Buck be a little disappointed and Tommy act nonchalant. Then they follow it up with a scene where Eddie is the only one interested in bucks plans for a bachelor party and then he suggests matching costumes for them. Like ik im crazy but im not that crazy right like ik that scene is probably more to do with showing that they don’t know each that well yet and they’re learning and how tommy makes an effort to come but like i just don’t know why we got that parallel. Sorry this little thing just drives me insane.
Anyway the point of this post is I believe Buck is ready for buddie like the door is closed because he’s dating someone else but it’s not locked and it’s easy to open up. But Eddie he has so much work to do he needs to properly grieve Shannon and realise he doesn’t need to replace her for his or Chris’s sake. Then maybe he can face that he might not be as straight as he originally thought.
Basically i still definitely believe buddie can happen and be endgame i think they’ve set a good foundation especially on bucks part but Eddie has a long way to go and it’s gonna take time. I think the writers are keeping there options open and we won’t really get an idea if anything will happen between them until probably like end of season 8

I had a theory I wanted to share but bear with me while I get to it.
Thinking about how now we know for sure Eddie & Marisol are actually having sex regularly got me thinking about how Eddie & Shannon's problem was never their sex life and wondering how/if that plays into Eddie being with Marisol? Because we know things never seemed to click with Ana both emotionally and physically but they are clicking physically with Marisol up until the whole nun thing after which Eddie seemed to be like "well I guess we'll break up now" but didn't seem too devastated by it? If anything he felt more like someone in the beginning of relationship not someone after months of dating & then moving in together. Which of course they decided to slow that because he realized they were going too fast but he said he really wants this time to work out but I'm not seeing a convincing reason why? They're friendly sure & having good sex I guess but what's their emotional connection? How close actually are they? I'm having a hard time understanding it. But this is only his like 3rd ever relationship right? He doesn't have a lot to compare it to & so maybe because he clicked in a way he didn't with Ana that maybe reminds him of what he had with Shannon? Except he & Shannon were best friends, they had a deep emotional connection in addition to a pretty good sex life. So I don't know but maybe Eddie is thinking they needed to move in because it would help them get closer and now maybe they need more time or something? We know he hates dating and feeling like he needs to perform so maybe it's like this is the first woman since Shannon he's able to/enjoys sleeping with so he figures that must mean something more? And I love the idea of he's never considered men being an option before and him now starting on that journey or realizing he did like men or at least Buck and he's now realizing Buck could be an option, like any of those theories and then realizing maybe what he's actually missing in his relationship with Marisol he already has with Buck and realizing he can also have that good sexual part of it (not that he has to but it does seem important to him) too. Because for all of the problems that he & Shannon had they did love and care about each other. I like to think if she'd lived they would have still gotten divorced & actually settled into a solid friendship with each other. But that's neither here nor there.
Is this a crazy stretch? Maybe. I'm just trying to make sense of it all. And I'm a Buddie girlie at heart always so it makes me feel more hopeful.
No, I'm actually with you here. I think Ana was just the first person he thought he could latch onto back then, and she was pretty and nice and Chris liked her, so he thought he could learn to love her eventually. I mean the show does imply that eddieana had sex. I know we like to joke they didn't, but the show very much does imply that with the "you really like to dress me up" "and the other thing" comment at the store before the first panic attack. But they weren't clicking emotionally and we didn't see them connect physically, so Eddie was just "sticking it out". Shannon, the sex worked and I did know how to talk, I don't think you can fight the way they did if you don't know each other. Shannon knew exactly how to disarm Eddie. How to say the thing that would get him questioning his actions. So even if we didn't get to see a lot of moments in their marriage where they were just happy, we know they had good sex and we know they knew how to talk. With Marisol he seems to be connecting with her physically, but he can't seem to connect with her emotionally, because we don't know anything about Marisol because the impression they are giving is that Eddie doesn't know a lot about her. He could have thought that the shock of moving in would bring them closer and then make the relationship better, there is an argument to be made there. And like, he says he really likes her but his brain went to the break up route and he didn't seem that devastated about it. It is canon information that this is Eddie's 3rd relationship, assumed 3rd person he slept with. So he doesn't have a lot of reference points. Which is why he keeps chasing Shannon. But I also think that enough pent up sexual energy can make people see more in a relationship than there actually is, good sex doesn't equal a good relationship (just look at Buck and Taylor and the way they had the chemistry but lacked everything else). But Shannon worked because they had both the friendship and the chemistry. If Shannon was still alive I think they would very much learn to be friends for Chris' sake and eventually settle back into the friendship and figure out who they are together while better equipped to handle what's being thrown at them. But he's lacking the communication aspect of a good relationship with Marisol. He doesn't have the friendship. He does have the friendship with Buck though. And I guess having sex with men in general never occurred to him (but as a demisexual Eddie believer I think sex is not something he worries about a lot unless it's actively creating problems in his life like in merry exmas and you don't know me, both episodes who contain the two sex scenes that lead to problems in the relationship, and it is an interesting way to create problems on Eddie's relationship by calling back to that conflict with Shannon that eventually led Eddie to let Shannon back in but literally led to him kicking Marisol out, also interesting that he sneaks Shannon out of the house and leaves Marisol alone in it) so he never thought about having sex with Buck specifically, but I don't see how Eddie could go "oh maybe I want to have sex with men?" and not instantly attach that to Buck too, because he's Buck. Considering the way I don't think Eddie knows how to qualify who Buck is to him, but does have Buck stored away as the person he trusts the most, I think that attraction to men would instantly attach to the safest person, and that's Buck.
But the question is how they are gonna handle his sexuality. I don't know if they are ever gonna explicitly label him, or Buck for they matter, on the show, but on a meta level Buck is being thought of as bisexual and they are adding to the pieces that are already there to make Buck a bisexual man. I have no idea where Eddie's sexuality is going. I can give you an argument for that man to be demisexual and/or demiromantic with the last episode. The fact that he didn't know that aspect of her killed his boner and his excitement with the relationship. So much so he had to go back to the getting to know her step. But is the show ballsy enough to have a character like Eddie be demisexual? Are they ballzy enough to make the womanizer bi and the single father ace? I don't know. Probably not. I think Eddie has a complicated relationship with sex. Is it the religious trauma? Is the demisexuality? Is it both? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I also think that that complicated relationship with sex makes it harder for him to want to date, because dating comes with expectations. He's clearly not romance or sex repulsed, but he does have trouble connecting on a deeper level with these women. He doesn't have trouble connecting with Buck. I think if you plant the attraction to men seed with him, his brain would fill the empty space with Buck. Kinda in the same way he keeps trying to match these women to Shannon. So he could get there. He can absolutely get there. I see this being a route to be taken. I don't know if the show is brave enough to do it though.

As always it's a delight to get to read your posts and meta, it's just as satisfactory and fun as it is watching the show. You're just awesome ❤️
You know after watching the last episode (and now that we know little bit more about Marisol) it made me feel really sorry for her, because I just know she'll be collateral damage while Eddie figures himself out and that's just so sad. And I wasn't really sure why those comments Eddie made about him/Marisol when they encountered Buck and Tommy at the restaurant and after having sex with her made me feel so uncomfortable, but then you pointed it out and I was like yeah that was kinda like locker room talk, Eddie was overcompensating here like trying to be a big macho man and that's why it felt so weird.
I'm baffled about Eddie's situation the most because I'm sure it's gonna be hell for him for a while since he will have to work through a lot of issues to finally be at peace with himself. And until stated otherwise my headcanon is the same as yours. I'm sure he is a gay repressed man (and not no get into the gay Eddie vs demisexual  Eddie discourse but I'm sure he may be both) I grew up in a Mexican household, I was raised catholic and although I wasn't in the army my dad was and he raised me and my siblings with an iron fist. So Eddie's background/storyline has always hit too close to home for me. I'm just dreading all the issues he's going to have to face.
Which brings me to this. To show his coming out arc and make it into completion do you think they will have to show us more about his childhood and upbringing, not just having Eddie talking about it but to have scenes like we did with Buck's childhood?
And why do you think the scene about Buck apologizing to Eddie for hurting him at the basketball court had to happen off screen?
Btw thanks for always replying to my questions.
Hi there!!! No problem!!! You always have super interesting questions to ask, so I am always delighted to answer them!
We all know how Eddie feels about "performance". I just feel like why would Eddie feel like the performance stops once he's actually made it past the dating phase and into the relationship phase? Maybe the external pressure from others is off (none of his family or the firefam questioning him, etc) but in order to KEEP the relationship, it really would require MORE performing.
It's fascinating to me, because we don't see Eddie acting this way with Shannon. You could make some arguments that their relationship was pretty fractured from the get-go and we didn't really see their dating/"honeymoon" phase but even when they were ~slightly~ back together in season 2b, Eddie wasn't acting like that with Shannon. Even when they were sleeping together, he wasn't. The most he did was make a couple of cringe comments about his "dashing good looks" or something, but that was more poking fun at himself. Even when Eddie was telling Buck about how "sex complicates things" with Shannon, he wasn't out here smirking or making comments about how good it feels to finally get some after two years of (apparent) celibacy. Say what you want about their relationship, but at least Eddie respected Shannon enough as a person to not start speaking about her that way. Their relationship was far too serious for that.
With Ana, it was so incredibly hard to watch because even though the storyline ITSELF wasn't about sex, a lot of their scenes had that edge to it? Like the sex-scene fake out in season 4, "grade me on a curve", "you really like to see me dressed up" "and the other thing" it was so ODD and FORCED. At the time of s4/5 airing you could maybe chalk it up to Eddie overcorrecting since it's his first real relationship after Shannon, but then he goes and does the same thing with Marisol which now makes it a pattern.
Once it clicked in my brain that the reason his relationships with women feel so fake is that he is literally putting on a show of hyper-heterosexuality (idk if that's a real term or not but roll with me here) it all made sense. I think seeing him "in a relationship" with Marisol for real was the final puzzle piece to seal this deal for me.
His extreme performances with these women, combined with their purposeful lack of development into full characters, all points to the fact that none of these relationships are going to work out. Eddie is not going to be able to actually settle down with his "endgame" partner until he actually finds someone he can be his true, real self with and "doesn't have to pretend with them" ;)
Is it bad that I actually enjoyed getting to know Marisol a little? Putting aside the actress, Marisol, the character, is interesting, because we're actually getting to know her a little bit more, far more than we got to with Ana. But I find both of these love interests fascinating in one mutual way: the fact that they put up with Eddie. Like I think about other characters and if they would've been okay being treated by their partners the way Eddie treats his girlfriends and I'm like.....hell no!
Oddly enough the only person I could see putting up with it was Buck before he finally started realizing that he doesn't have to be in a relationship with someone just because they want him. Only someone who also has deep insecurities, abandonment issues, and a general lack of self-respect would put up with Eddie's BS to his girlfriends. That's not to say that Eddie's a horrible person or abuses his partners or anything, but it's basically indisputable that he does not ever put in any emotional work to actually create meaningful relationships with his girlfriends. So why were Ana and now Marisol, so willing to accept that?
Ana resisted the break-up even though she could feel Eddie's whole heart wasn't in it. She was willing to keep trying in a dead relationship just in the hopes that something would work out. The same goes for Marisol. Idk about you, but if I was in a relationship with a man for going on 4-6 months and he knew NOTHING about me? I'd feel unloved, uncared for, and unappreciated, and I'd LEAVE.
We know that Marisol was scared of Eddie rejecting her or fetishizing her and that's why she didn't tell him about the nun thing, and I understand her reasoning and fear there. But gworlie, what else do we know about you? Can Eddie name a single hobby you have outside of loving Jesus and DIYing houses? Does Eddie even know your last name? It really makes me think that Marisol is unfortunately the type to just let things like this slide in the hopes that some man will accept her, any man. Since they rarely do because of the nun thing. And boy, do I understand that feeling, but that's NOT real love. I bet you anything once we get to the Eddiemarisol breakup she's gonna be very similar to Ana in that she knew Eddie's heart wasn't fully in it, but she just didn't want to be alone again.
I think that like attracts like, and Eddie's clutching onto this relationship for the same reason Marisol's clutching onto this relationship: because it's easier than being alone and being judged for it.
This is a tangent but I also want to point out that one thing that Eddie found uncomfortable about Marisol being a nun was the fact that nuns used to be his teachers....but was Ana also not a teacher? Just because she wasn't a nun, doesn't mean she couldn't have also been in a position of power that Eddie could've found uncomfortable. I find it interesting that even though Marisol's not a teacher, the show found a way to connect her to teachers and therefore to Ana.
As for Eddie's coming out arc, while I don't think it's entirely a necessity to have flashbacks to how he grew up, I certainly think it would help a lot of people who can't read between the lines if they had some. I especially would like to see scenes of young him + Shannon. Maybe seeing how the pressure from his family and church led him to believe men have to be a certain way, potentially microaggressions about being lgbt that he might've seen from his family/church (I don't necessarily mean full-on homophobia but possibly like little ways in which he was shown that there was no other "acceptable" option from his church other than heterosexuality. I think seeing scenes of how he and Shannon got together could be enlightening too, how their community reacted to them getting pregnant, etc. I think all of this, combined with a mirrored storyline in the present (similar to Buck Begins) would really drive home the point the show is trying to make, especially if they can finally be overt about Eddie's queerness. BUT all of this can still be done present day without the need for flashbacks either. I just think it would be a way to make the storytelling more rich and to spell it out more obviously for the people in the back.
As for Buck apologizing to Eddie for the basketball scene...I would've liked to see it too, but at the end of the day, it's like Ryan said in his interview...Eddie was always going to forgive Buck because he loves him to his core, because he knew Buck didn't come at it from a place of truly wanting to hurt Eddie. All of it was a manifestation of Buck's own issues, and by this point (especially after the lawsuit arc and the deadbrother arc) Eddie is aware of that. We did see plenty of scenes where Buck was scolded and demonstrated he was aware his actions were shitty, and Eddie probably assumed that letting Buck stew in his own guilt was atonement enough. And so I think likely the writers felt that in the end, the sentiment got across. Separately--given all the switcheroo stuff that happened with 7x04 and 7x05, I wouldn't be surprised if there WAS an apology scene and it got cut for time.

Thanks for the tags @911onabc @prince-buck-diaz I loved y'all's snippets 💕
Here's another snippet from the army marriage of convenience fic, first snippet here ✨
Eddie takes a steadying breath as he pulls on the coat to his Army Dress Blues. He slowly buttons up the coat, taking note of the way his fingers don’t shake like they did the last time he put on his dress uniform for his wedding. He looks in the mirror and feels like almost no time has passed since he last did this and wonders if his family will think Buck is just another mistake. He wonders if he’ll be able to maintain the lie, if anyone could really believe that a guy like Buck could fall for Eddie, let alone want to marry him. And he tries not to think of the consequences if someone were to find out their secret and report them to whoever his commanding officer will be in El Paso. He must stand there lost in his thoughts longer than he realized, because Adriana shows up, leaning against the doorframe. “Just checking on you,” she says with a smile in her eyes. He flashes her a smile, trying to focus on the excitement of Buck moving with them, the joy of knowing that they won’t be separated for as long as they’re in the military.  “Almost ready,” he says, straightening out the medic insignia and the Combat Infantry Badge pinned to his chest. “I’m really proud of you,” she says softly. “But…” Eddie braces himself for whatever she’s about to say, maintaining eye contact through the mirror. “Are you sure it’s not too soon after Shannon?” Eddie lets out a sigh, knowing this question was going to come. “Look, Adri, I know this is fast. And I know how it looks from the outside. The divorce was finalized a year ago, but it was over between Shannon and I long before that. And Buck… Buck has been here every step of the way – literally since before Chris was even born. And with all the uncertainty that comes with being in the Army, I can’t risk Chris losing Buck, too.” It's the truth – Buck’s importance in their lives was one thing that Eddie never had to lie about.

I do want to know about quilt shop au for the ask game
What if Eddie did leave with Shannon to LA when she wanted to go and they divorced anyway but they’re still friends, what if he started working in his aunt’s fabric store, what if he remembered that he loved to sew when he was younger but was only really allowed to do it under certain circumstances (repairing clothes that wore out or making things they needed around the house or making his sisters’ quinceañera dresses) and wasn’t supposed to just want to do it for fun because he’s a man and men aren’t supposed to like these kinds of things, what if he comes to terms that it really doesn’t matter or make him any less of a man if likes to make pretty things but still can’t quite admit he’s attracted to men because, well, he can be the guy that sews but he’s not going to be the gay guy who sews, what if a hot firefighter comes into the store because he wants to make a quilt for his soon to be born niece and he’s kind of disaster at it but his hearts in the right place, what if Eddie is a very neat and precise sewer and Buck is extremely off the cuff and it drives him a little crazy but maybe is teaching him that he doesn’t need to try so hard to be in control all the time, what if he falls in love, what if Shannon has also been on a journey of self discovery, what if she comes out to him and he laughs and she gets mad but oh no please I’m not laughing at you I’ve just fallen in love with a boy and we were really never going to work out huh, what if what was supposed to be a fun little fic about a hobby I enjoy turns into something kind of melancholy about feeling like you’ve wasted time trying to not be something you are, what if Buck has secretly been making Eddie a quilt and he feels kind of dumb when he gives it to him because Eddie could make something way better and neater himself, but what if no one has ever thought to work so hard on something beautiful just for Eddie, what if making a quilt is a time consuming task of love!! What if they’re in love!!!
Mostly inspired by the fact that i like to make quilts, also partly by this song they were playing a lot for a while on my favorite radio station. After the oh my god we’re both gay??? conversation Eddie is going to be talking about Buck and mentions that he has terrible ironing habits and Shanon is going to be like “??? He doesn’t iron all his seams and you didn’t black out and commit an act of sewing motivated violence??? How good is the dick????” And Eddie is going to be like “what? We’re not actually together yet. Also what why would I do that?” And she’s like “…. Babe. You didn’t stay stitch the neckline on Christopher’s Halloween costume three years ago and I know you still feel guilty about it” and Eddie’s all frowning “it could have warped” and she cracks up “could have. Could have but didnt. And you’re letting this man walk around with improperly pressed quilt blocks? I’m just saying this seems serious…”

thoughts on a nonbinary sophie? it's been one of my favorite headcanons for years. I really like it as the reason why sophie is so uncomfortable in dresses and femininity, as opposed to shannon just writing her to be "different" than most of the other female characters.
Oh I am so fond of enby Sophie--and while not exactly the same I have a couple fanarts of demigirl Sophie too.
The strongest canon basis is that discomfort in traditional femininity (though of course that's not a given or a requirement). But we can also take her story as an allegory for genderqueerness. She's quite literally caught between two worlds, human and elven, in a way that neither side fully comprehends the importance of or impact on her identity and views.
If we take these worlds as traditional western ideas of gender, I'd posit the elven as male and human as female to reflect the valuing of male/female in our world. Sophie's story then becomes one of growing up female but not fitting in, moving to male and trying to adapt--only to find once again it's not quite right. There are elements of both the female and male worlds that are important to her and her identity--and while nonbinary isn't simply an in-between or mixing of female/male, that doesn't make it an inaccurate application here.
Sophie's story is about wanting to fit in only to discover she can't and coming to terms that, trying to make a space for herself via the people she surrounds herself with instead. A story that likely sounds familiar to many queer people--gender or otherwise
all that to say nonbinary Sophie--or genderqueer Sophie of any kind--is exquisite

Dating Argyle Headcanons
Note: These are just some random thoughts I need written lol
CW: Fluff <3 fem!reader (mainly just feminine adjacent things, so no pronouns used)
Argyle would be such a sweet boyfriend🥺
He is not ashamed to hold your purse if you leave to go the bathroom or something
Doesn't matter what color, shape or size, he's putting it on his shoulder and chilling
Would probably make a joke like, "Does this match my outfit🤨?"
If you have long nails, I just know he loves feeling them run through his hair when you're cuddling
And he's willing to do things for you when you have your nails long -- "Here, lemme open it for you, don't want you to break a nail, dude", "Aht! Aht! Here! I can roll, you just sit back and look gorgeous", "I'll hold that for you, don't even lift a finger"
He would be willing to join you at your nail or hair appointments, only giving his opinion when you ask for it
Like if you ask which color your nails should be: "Hmm, well that one compliments your eyes....but that one matches the season...."
He also likes hearing the ladies at the salon gossip:
"Tsk, tsk, tsk....Shannon, you deserve better! Next time he's late, don't even answer his calls. Show him you think about him even less than he does you!", "...And she said that to your face!?👀", "Wait...is this the sister with the knee problem or the one who moved to New York?"
Argyle definitely enjoys clothes shopping, I just know it!
Doesn't matter if it's for you to get clothes or for him:
"Alright, babe, what do you think? Is this too similar to the shirt I wore to Jonathan's birthday party?", "Wooaaah!! These pants are sick! Babe, babe! They even have your size!! We could match!", "Okay, now turn...hm, other way...and turn again...okay, yeah, I'm messin' with you, I just like looking at you. But, yeah, that dress is coming with us"
If you like cooking and/or baking he'll happily try out new recipes with you:
"Where's the tablespoon? Wait, hold on, why do we need that big of a measurement? That's not right, it's gonna be too garlicy!", "Mmm, that's the best chocolate icing I've ever tried, good job!", "You know what this would pair really well with...?"
Being cold around him is a pretty rare occurrence
He'll give you a nice big bear hug, holding you until you're warmed up
That being said, I think Argyle only likes minimal PDA
Cheek kisses, hand holding, hugs goodbye or for warmth, an arm slung over your shoulders or back of your chair, that's about as much as he does around others
Not to say he won't ask for you to step aside for a smooch
But in private, he's up for cuddle sessions that last for hours, lots of kisses everywhere, and he loooves hand holding so much
He'd hold your hand forever if he could
I think he's a "secret" romantic
And by secret, I mean that side of him is just for you
He likes to plan dates, even if it's just making pizza for you and lighting some candles
He's up for taking romantic bubble baths together and loves long car drives with you
He also loves to just sit in the back of his van with you and cuddle, just enjoying your presence
If you have long hair too, he's gonna play with it and braid it
He likes when you're in the bath together and you let him shampoo your hair
And I just know he can give you an amazing massage
Those hands just look like they'd feel amazing🤤
And trust, he's fine with listening to you rant
If you just need someone to listen to you he's always your go to because he'll offer advice if you ask but will also sit quietly
And he's always taking your side, ofc
He's loyal af
And he's def the type of boyfriend where when you say,
"Gasp! Don't look now, but-"
He moves his entire body around to look at who you're talking about, no subtly at all
He also probably puts on a "nice act" around people you both don't like and comes back to you, muttering under his breath, "Ugh, what fucking losers"
If you can't reach certain things, he'll offer to reach up and get them for you
Unless of course you want to feel independent, in which case he'll hold you up by the waist and lift you up,,, orrrr, will make your own little step stool😭
He would just be such a sweetheart, I need him so bad😭😭😭😭😭

I'M NOT A KID NOW SO I CAN READ IT ALL {1.7k | getting together | first kiss | feelings placement | crushes} [ao3]
a/n: title from sunday crossword by j.maya
“...and dad in a couple weeks is our first middle school dance. It’s sparkly winter themed, whatever that means…”
He heard about the dance for three days straight. and then it stopped.
It was a rare day when he was able to pick Chris up from school, letting him climb into the back while he stayed in his seat with a watchful eye. and Chris is quiet. Eddie lets the quiet fill the space for a while.
“Any updates on the dance buddy? Figure out what you are gonna wear, do we need to go shopping?” he bites his lip remembering the last time they tried to buy formal clothes.
Chris grumbles, “I don't want to talk about it.” and continues to look out the window, a sad look in his eye.
“Okay.” he shifts his grip on the wheel and after pondering for a moment changes his course and drives toward the beach.
He puts the car in park and opens Chris's door who looks at him defiantly.
“C’mon kid, here we go.” Chris rolls his eyes a little as he gets out of the car. He knows the drill, they've done this a few times since Christmas, each time they gain a little more healing. When they reach the sand Eddie hoists him up, crutches under his arm.
They settle down on the sand.
“So, what’s going on, what happened?”
“I don't want to go anymore.”
“Why?”
“Lindsay laughed at me.”
Eddie doesn’t know who Lindsay is, but he might have a few choice words if he couldn’t guess that she’s also twelve years old.
“I asked her to go with me, and she laughed. and I thought I had a crush on her but maybe I don't, because I don't know what that actually means. So I guess, how do I know if it is?”
Eddie pauses, processing all that information that came so fast, it felt like Chris aged a few years in the span of less than thirty seconds.
“Well, it’s different for every person, you know?” he starts, “Some people get butterflies when the other person is around, or you want to be around them all the time, or they make you laugh. Maybe you think they’re just that much prettier or handsome than your other friends or peers.”
He swallows and pushes something out of the way for later. It’s about Chris right now.
Chris contemplates his words for a moment, twisting his mouth around, starting a word and then stopping.
“How’d you know with mom?”
Eddie is a bit startled by the question, it’s not that he never thought Christopher would ask, he just wasn’t really prepared for it to happen now. But it makes sense. He lets sand slip through his fingers for a moment while he thinks.
He smiles at the fond memories of their early days of friendship, the first time he heard her laugh and saw how it sparkled in her eyes. How it had been a group trip to the beach when they first kissed, the only two single people, each of their friends poking fun at them about their obvious crushes on the other. It had been torture. But then she kissed him and it was better than Lana at the 8th grade dance, or Silvia in 10th.
It was supposed to be an end of senior year fling, that maybe held over into the summer before Shannon went to school. And it was. And she did. They kept it alive during breaks and if Eddie had the chance he would visit her. And then she came back to El Paso pregnant after Junior year.
And they got married by the end of May. Shannon’s dress just covering her 5 month bump. Eddie wasn’t sure why they tried, everyone would know anyway.
He enlisted two weeks later. Didn’t tell her for three days. Then left.
And it had been the beginning of the end.
But he turns Christopher's question over in his brain, “She was my best friend. Her laugh was the first thing that made me love her that much differently.”
Christopher bites his lip and digs a hand deep into the sand.
“Hey, what’s up bud?”
“I don’t remember her laugh anymore, Dad,” Christopher replies so quietly as if he is afraid to admit it.
And Eddie’s heart breaks, tears prick his eyes, he hates that Christopher carries this pain with him, “That doesn’t mean you’re forgetting her Chris. We must have it somewhere if you would like to hear it though.” He pulls his son into his lap, even if he is too big and just a few moments ago they were talking about his first crush and his first school dance. But he can’t help it, and Christopher doesn’t refuse.
He nods into his dad’s shoulder, and then sits back.
“You know I was doing the math the other day, and I- I realized that the amount of time that we had together is shorter than the time I’ve had without her.”
All he can do is run his fingers through Chris's curls and pull him tighter to his chest.
“I know, kid. I’m so sorry.” he swallows past the lump that’s formed in his throat because his son is supposed to use his new algebra skills to figure that out. It’s for, well he’s not entirely sure cause math was never his subject unless it was practical like figuring out how many units to administer in the field. Under pressure. So he does what he can and holds his son while the sun sets over the horizon.
Chris relaxes after a while.
“What happens to me if you die too?” he asks after a moment, his bottom lip caught between his teeth.
And how many times can his kid break his heart in one evening. He's surprised this hasn’t come up before in everything they have been through over the past year.
“Oh, kid.” and Chris just stares at him, waiting, “Buck will take care of you. It's on paper, a very special legal paper. You’ll stay right here, with him, and Bobby and Athena, Chimney and Maddie, and Hen and Karen. They’ll take care of you, just like they do now. And you won’t have to move. I can't promise,” Chris nods in understanding, “but I will never leave you without fighting tooth and nail to get back to you. okay?”
“Okay.” Chris replies softly, before resting his head back down. “And Buck knows, and wants to do that if-”
Eddie swallows, “Yeah he does, he loves you so much.” he runs his hand through Chris’s hair again and sighs. and they breathe together for a moment.
“Do you still not want to go?” Eddie asks as the last rays of sun disappear. Chris just nods his head.
“You know what? I think we should have our own party at home, invite Denny, maybe Harry will be in town? I am sure Buck would be thrilled to help out. We can decorate, whatever you want. How does that sound?”
Christopher ponders it for a moment and a small smile creeps up his lips and he nods slowly. “Can we get pizza on our way home?” his eyes turn big and tilts his head with a small smile.
“I'm gonna have to talk to Buck about teaching you that look,” Eddie responds and Chris laughs.
“And you’ll talk to him about your crush on him too?”
And Eddie is speechless, his mouth forming a small oh in shock.
“C'mon Daad, you totally want to be around him all the time. and you just invited him over to help kind of arbitrarily and you know he’ll say yes. And he wants to too. You really thought i wouldn’t notice that?”
“What am I gonna do with you?” he asks rhetorically, and then turns slightly more serious “you think so?” Chris just nods, “I'll think about it. Okay, kid, let’s go get that pizza.”
It's a few weeks later and Eddie's living room is covered in shimmery streamers, star garland draped across the mantle and twinkle lights. The dining room table is covered in snacks and drinks. Chris and his friends scattered about the couch and chairs, four of them racing in Mario Kart and the others cheering them on.
Buck and Eddie are tucked away in the kitchen preparing for their pizza order to come to feed the 7 almost teenagers in the living room.
“So in the planning, I never heard why we are facilitating this boycott of a middle school dance,” Buck says, leaning against the counter.
“He asked someone to go with him, and she laughed.”
“If I didn’t know she is probably twelve-“
“I had the same reaction. but that prompted the question about what crushes feel like and he decided he’d rather do something at home than have to go to the “stupid dance” that he was very excited about until then I’ll have you know.” Buck laughs, and smiles ducking his head- no doubt remembering his own 12 year old self.
And it hits Eddie right in the chest. right there in the kitchen. It’s like a breath of fresh air in his lungs after holding his breath. Maybe it was weird that what he fell for all the time was the laughter, that the same thing that clued him in on his feelings. But to Eddie it just made sense. And this wasn’t shocking news to him, that he loved buck, he’d been waiting for it to hit him like this though.
“There was actually one other thing that I wanted to talk to you about.”
And Buck looks up at him, tilting his head in curiosity, which shouldn’t be so endearing.
And now Eddie has no idea what the fuck to actually say cause everything feels too big and too important.
So he crosses the kitchen with determination until he’s in Buck’s space, holding his jaw so gently and he can’t breathe.
“i- is this okay?” he asks just about a whisper. Buck blinks and then nods. Circling his hand around Eddie’s waist, breathing him in like he can’t live without this any more. And if Eddie had known kissing Buck is this good he would have done it a long time ago.
