OH HEY, GUESS WHAT?! IT'S THE FIRST DAY OF 2024!

i can't wait to forget that this whole coming month as marshal from my island on acnh said hah! anyhoo, just wanted to share this quick lil msg with you all.

I've been thinking of making this huuuuge post thanking everyone one by one, all of last year (or December more specifically) but then being too busy and blah blah got in the way. anyway, we're doing this instead now.

Awake and waiting to catch a glimpse of the aurora borealis. Being here feels weird yet oddly comforting. Almost like being on the edge of the world even though that’s not quite accurate seeing as there are villages and work encampments far to the north of where we’re at. Still, it was trippy to look at a map of the destination versus origination. It didn’t click until this evening.

Admittedly, I am homesick. My partner called to ask me how to stop the weather radio from going off so frequently due to a round of storms, and informed me that our cat has been extra clingy. As much as I appreciate the beauty and serenity of viewing the Pacific Ocean with mountains decorating the landscape, some things tend to bring back the reality of being so far from home. Not that I don’t want to hear from loved ones while I’m away. I just don’t normally go somewhere else for vacations, especially not this far away.

The concept of being several hours behind what seems to be everyone I typically interact with has yet to mesh with my mind. It’s weird. I’ll be paying hell to get used to my original time zone when it’s time to go back, although I’ve wandered into the what ifs in imagining how easy it would be for someone to disappear here, like intentionally.

Why not?

It’s quiet. It’s peaceful. It’s incredibly easy to find a home tucked away that so few people would come across, if any. If there was ever a place to escape to be a nobody, it’d probably be here. I’m not tempted to do so right now, but if I needed to run away this would be an ideal place to go despite the desynchronization from everyone I know… except that wouldn’t matter much with the intent to paint myself out of the picture.

I don’t want to do that.

I realize that probably sounds dark and horrible. It’s a splash in a bucket of thoughts today, most of which were rather positive. I took so many photos today and soaked up the beauty of the world around me. In fact, I may have found a new little hobby with photography. But I also won’t be surprised if this rambling is one more thing that will be misconstrued or spun around by certain folks who believe they know me better than I know myself. 🤷🏼‍♀️
