FGO Summer 2023 has been a Rollercoaster of excitement and regret. I got all 3 of them.

But not without Cost. I spent more than I wanted or intended, but I'll call it worth it for Summer Kama. In the process I unintentionally rolled Caenis 5 times.

ELLE! I KNEW THIS! BUT DID YOU KNEW THIS? (GRAMMAR ON PORPOISE)
Barty is canonically a ravenclaw!
HI MY LOVE.
I actually didn’t know this but I think it’s because truly canonically, Barty isn’t placed in a house at all (like it’s never stated). Since he was one of only 3 people who managed to obtain all 12 OWL’s, and was really extremely clever, it’s speculated that he could have very well been a ravenclaw.
Another reason people may consider him a slytherin is because it is mentioned in various online forums that there were only two Death Eaters (known) not from Slytherin: Quirrel (ravenclaw) and Peter (gryffindor)
If JKR (😠) felt it pressing to state explicitly that quirrel was from another house, I feel like she’d have done the same for Barty, so I think it’s safe to assume he’s a Slytherin.
THAT SAID: this is my favourite thing about fanfiction - it can literally be whatever the hell you want it to be. I think it’d be sweet to have him in ravenclaw and be BBF’s with Pandora 🥰 but in my brain’s AU, he’s Slytherin through and through 🫶

Toto’s webinar
Hey y’all! I just got back home (It’s literally 12am) and I have linked the audio of the Toto webinar here. However, I cut out the intro because it contains semi-private info about one of Toto’s family members that is revealed by the interviewer and I feel like Toto wouldn’t want that info reaching a wide audience given how private he is about that specific area of his life and I want to respect that. There are also some breaks in the recording for when my connection died (nothing major but it’s a thing). I’ve also done a break down of the Webinar by subject if you don’t feel like listening to the entire hour and just want highlights on specific things.
On Drive to Survive
1. He didn’t initially want to join DTS because it reminds him of a circus but he changed his mind when a friend of his asked for tickets to a race because they had watched DTS. That changed his stance.
On the 2022 Car performance
3. Toto explains that they underestimated the porpoising because it doesn’t appear on tests conducted in the wind tunnel (they can’t get the car up to speeds of 350km/h) so it doesn’t show up on the data. They could strengthen the floor of the car but then they lose downforce so they would prefer an alternate solution.
4. If the car doesn’t perform how it should in Barcelona (10 days), they may have to revert to a more conventional car design (i.e. a car with actual sidepods). Fuckkkkkkk. Good news is that he didn’t say they’d scrap the entire season and focus on next year so that gives me hope.
On The Team’s Culture
5. Toto’s core belief for running Merc is “I don’t run racing cars, I run people that run racing cars.” He believes that if you create a company culture that allows people to communicate freely and empowers them, you lift the standards everyday and that translates directly into performance. So he’s created a system where a mechanic can come up to him directly and let him know that the car design doesn’t work or could be improved etc.
6. He said that he believes the culture and honesty has to start with him so when they’re debriefing he comes clean. He said he admit a anything from not handling his emotions as he should have to being too controlling and distracting the strategists when they have to decide when to pit the car (Idk if he was speaking about Miami but that came to mind for me).
On Abu Dhabi 2021
7. About Abu Dhabi 2021, he said he would have been happy to lose the WDC if M*x and Redbull were the stronger team but he doesn’t believe that’s what happened. He gave a breakdown of the team’s strategy (they expected the safety car to allow all cars to unlap) and said the race director “freestyled” by putting Lewis in a position he couldn’t defend. He said he felt helpless, like he was a kid and that his destiny was in the hands of someone who had “lost the plot”. A 6’5”, at the time, 49 year old man said Michael Masi made him feel like a kid. Y’all, I was on stage surrounded by the president of my university and I nearly burst into tears on stage. I can’t imagine how awful that felt.
8. He thought there was a way to get Lewis the championship legally but realized that people move on and don’t want to win the championship 2 months down the line in court. The images still hurt him and he still can’t watch DTS because of it. He copes with it by saying it’s an F1 race and it’s entertainment. It’s not politics, it doesn’t change people’s lives, it’s a sporting event, so you just have to move on.
On Managing 2 Drivers
9. On dealing with team rivalries and how he intends to handle George and Lewis competing on the same team, he said you could deal with it in 1 of 2 ways. 1) Establish a clear pecking order of who is the priority driver or 2) the more interesting and challenging option is to manage 2 alphas and get the best performance out of both.
10. He described racing drivers as “traumatized kids who were put in a go-kart by their parents at the age of 8 and told to race out there in the rain with each other… and then suddenly you put these traumatized kids in a formula 1 car and you say, ‘now you’re driving for Mercedes’ and you need to perform for the team” SIR PLEASE.
11. He spoke to Alain Prost about managing 2 drivers and Alain explained that the most frustrating thing to deal with as a driver is a lack of transparency (not knowing if the team prioritizes you or the other driver) and so he has tried to be as transparent about his motivations as possible which can be uncomfortable. That means being straight with the drivers, giving team orders when he thinks one driver is leading the championship and while they may agree to disagree at least everything is out in the open.
12. He praises George and Lewis and said they work great together. He said the fact that George and Lewis aren’t competing for wins/championships sucks generally but it actually helps George’s integration to the team and currently works well for team dynamics.
On Managing Drivers on a Psychological Level
13. Toto says that his prior experience as a driver informs him on the psychological pressure drivers have to endure and thinks that anyone in F1 is mentally resilient in the racing car (suck a dick Helmut Marko and associated RBR fans) but doesn’t mean the same applies outside the car.
14. He thinks that drivers being realistic with their own capabilities and benchmarks for success is integral to their performance.
15. He says his family doesn’t care if he wins or loses at the end of the day. The important thing is that he gives them love and support. He asks himself at the end of the day, “where have I been a fool today and where can I improve” to be a better person and entrepreneur.
On the Changes to the Regulations
16. The interviewer said something interesting. He said that ironically U.S. sporting institutions appear to be more socialist compared to European sporting institutions. They’ve historically had salary caps, they have drafts to produce a form of parity which is a thing that is lacking in European sporting institutions. Lmk if y’all agree.
17. Toto said “The U.S. has socialized sport in order to capitalize on it.” Toto said that f1 is doing the same thing, stopping teams from spending millions of dollars in order to extract 1/10th of a second from the car. He said Merc makes about $550 million in revenue (Jesus wtf) and the cost cap has fundamentally reduced engineering costs from $300 million (also wtaf) to $40 million (still a ridiculous amount) which allows them to make a profit (for the investors) and not just break even.
18. This means that teams have an easier gap to bridge to the front of the pack and makes for more entertainment and variability (he mentioned Valtteri racing against Lewis and George).
On Investing in F1
19. Toto said that F1 could add 2 more teams but no one has an appetite for it (not the FIA, not F1, not the teams) because it would dilute the prize gains. The only way they would accept the addition of 2 new teams is if they had a really creative way to bring in more revenue and balance out the dilution of the prize fund which no one has done.
20. He said F1 is a very lucrative investment because it has entertainment, live media and tech which are resilient industries and are great for profit. He said there is more demand to join F1 than there is supply. He said no teams or shares are for sale today (which confused me…what is all this talk about Audi and Porsche joining then?)
21. Toto said that he didn’t have a choice in choosing to be both CEO and team principal when deciding to buy shares in the team. He originally refused to be the CEO because he saw himself strictly as an entrepreneur but Daimler Benz (Mercedes parent company) told him it was a package deal. He says he’s honored and lucky the unconventional (CEO/Team Principal) structure works so well because many other teams have folded due to too much involvement by the parent company. He also says it’s a lot of pressure because the Merc F1 team has a lot of visibility and drives a lot of the sales for the parent Mercedes company.
On Sustainability
22. He says that switching to electric cars is common sense but the infrastructure for it doesn’t exist yet. He said that unlike LA which is urban and has strict environmental rules, other countries aren’t there yet.
23. He said that by 2025, the fuel that will be powering F1 cars will be 100% sustainable fuel that can be found anywhere and carbon neutral (fuel by definition cannot be sustainable, it’s made from dead compacted organisms so he kinda lost me here).
24. Toto said that the lack of sound (think revving engines) in more sustainable cars will be interesting because F1 is inherently an audiovisual sport. People automatically think louder cars are faster but he thinks that is changing. He said his kids, Benedict and Rosie, thought he was nuts for enjoying the sound of his car in a tunnel, so opinions are changing.
On getting a job in F1
25. They’re always looking for good people. Rigor and grades are important but who you are also fundamentally matters (that’s such a dad answer lmao). Your passion for the sport and outside interests matter. He said he gets emails from enthusiastic kids all the time.
26. He said that the Social Media Marketing position they advertised a couple of months ago got over 4,000 applications (sorry to all the people that applied and didn’t get it).
On Women and Diversity in f1
27. He talked about Susie being the last woman to race an F1 car on a race weekend and that she has influenced him. He believes starting at the grassroots level in karting will improve diversity. He said that Susie’s FE team is more than 50% female (yay!) and so he encourages women and girls to try it out especially because as he said, F1 is a robust business.
28. He said “women are much more stable in terms of mental resilience”.
29. He says the sport has historically been male and white dominated and diversifying the sport (in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, religion etc) is very close to his heart because it translates to diverse perspectives and better performance.
On Niki Lauda
30. He called Niki a strong figure who he used to butt heads with a lot because he was a non-executive chairman and Toto ran the team. It came to a head when Niki extended an olive branch and Toto decided to trust him. He said from there they became like twin brothers. No one could interfere with them (except maybe Toto’s son Benedict). He missed Niki as a friend, an advisor, a mascot, someone who could suggest crazy ideas and not be seen as irrational.
31. Niki was always very unemotional, always rational and pragmatic and claimed he had no friends because of it. He said that after a race, he and Niki went out to eat and Toto immediately started talking about the race but Niki told him to shut up. Niki said “I need to tell you something, you know I have no friends”, and Toto is like yeah, you tell me all the time. Niki started getting emotional and said if he laid in a dungeon at night, he wouldn’t be able to reach Toto, then said if there was something like a half-friend, Toto would be his half-friend, then Niki got teary-eyed. I don’t quite get the dungeon analogy but the point is he misses Niki a lot.
On What’s Next
32. Toto said no one is interested in what he’s done in the past. He doesn’t care what’s on his Wikipedia page. Championships are in the past. What matters is he is trying to have an impact on the environment around him, as a father with his family and as an employer with the team.
33. He said that at the beginning of each new season, they revert back to zero and that “currently, we are losing. Fact.” He said what happened 4 months ago is irrelevant and that he’s just trying to look at the future.
34. He said he oscillates between the dance floor and the balcony. The dance floor is (where he is now, trying to run the team and fix the car) and the balcony (is looking at the financial and political future of the team)
Boo! He didn’t answer my question about balancing the ethics of his sponsors with the responsibility of keeping the team afloat financially. Anywho, he looked tired and I don't believe the time difference between LA and Europe helped so it makes sense. Anyways, that’s it folks!

Leclerc questions why Ferrari’s efforts in taming F1 porpoising should be wasted
And Leclerc, in particular, is irritated that Ferrari may lose the advantage it has made from working to solve the problem just because other teams have not got to grip with matters.
Asked by Autosport about the FIA’s involvement in the porpoising debate, Leclerc said: “On the one hand, I obviously understand George's point, because when you see him and Lewis get out of their car after Baku, it's very bad.
“You can feel probably the pain that Lewis is going through at the moment. And this is not acceptable.
“But, on the other hand, also, you cannot underestimate the amount of work that's been done in the last few months by teams to actually get on top of those issues. This has been our main priority since the first time we tried these cars.
“We've been working to get on top of those issues. I think the improvement has been massive, and now all of the work that we've done, [do we] just put it in the bin because obviously there's maybe one team that is struggling more than others.
“This is my point of view. I obviously understand that on Mercedes it's very bad, but I also think that there are maybe fixes for this.”

I’m actually studying Marine Biology right now! I’m hoping to become one after all my uni years are over but I know it will take a while, I’m going into specializing in porpoises, whales and sharks! But I do have a question, I do really care for marine life and I remember we had to dissect a perch and I started to cry for the fish, some people say I’d be a great marine biologist because of that, but other people say I’m too sensitive to be one. What do you think?
Too sensitive? Umm absolutely not!!
All this tells me is that if you want to go into veterinary care, you may wan to reconsider. I myself cannot stand blood. The hardest part about being in marine mammal rehab was when we had animals with bloody injuries. This does not mean you can't go into the field!! For cetaceans and sharks you have options both in research and and husbandry (zoos and aquariums).
If you choose to go the research route, I want to share some scientists who are cetacean biologists so you can look at what they do!
Dr. Anne Simonis: NOAA biologist who studies sounds cetaceans make
Dr. Eugenie Clark: "The shark lady" shark behavioral biologist
Dr. Keith Hernandez: Elephant seal population ecologist
Dr. James Harvey: vertebrate behavior research and professor
I can look for other resources more specifically related to porpoises and sharks but I encourage you to take a look at these scientists have done or are doing now. You may find what they're doing to be of interesting.

Alpine introducing ride height tool and visible upgrade at first race | 2023 F1 season
Alpine will have two updates ready for its new A523 in time for the first race of the season next week. The team which finished fourth in the constructors championship last year is seeking to narrow the gap to the top three teams this year. Technical director Matt Harman said one of the updates it will run in the Bahrain Grand Prix should help it do that. “There’ll be some visual differences [at] the first race,” he told media including RaceFans in Bahrain today. “We’ve got quite a nice upgrade going on for the first race and hopefully that’ll help with our quest to get closer to that third position, if not being in that position.” Harman said the team will also have a new tool intended to help it optimise the car’s ride height. Teams can significantly increase the performance of their floors by running their cars as low and stiff as possible, providing they can prevent a recurrence of the porpoising which many experienced last year. Interactive: Compare all 10 F1 cars of 2023 side-by-side Alpine’s car was seen porpoising at times during this week’s test, which Harman said was a consequence of the team deliberately running stiff suspension. “We’ve exercised the envelope,” he said. “I’m sure you’ve seen some of the footage, we’ve run quite stiff. That works in some conditions, we need to exercise that. “On this track it doesn’t tend towards being very, very stiff, although there are some circuits during the season where we’re going to be able to optimise and capitalise on that, hence the test. But I think we’ve learnt a lot from that. Some of the tools we’ve got, specifically on the rear end of the car, are allowing us to capitalise on that learning. So the gain is important.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Another update coming for next weekend will allow Alpine to better optimise their ride height, he said. “The ride height of the car, we all know, is a key performance differentiator. We need to make sure we exercise that as well. “We’ve got some technology in the car that allows us to run it a little bit lower than maybe we would have done last year so we need to make sure we try that here. We’re going to be trying that for the first time in probably practice for the first race. So it’s been interesting.” Last year Alpine tended to bring upgrades which were smaller than those of their rivals, but did so more frequently, introducing new parts at almost every race. Harman said they may change that approach this year. “It may not be at every race because I think as the cars are evolving they’re becoming more integrated and therefore the packages that you need to bring need to be a little bit more widespread. “But fundamentally, there will be an attempt to try and develop something at every race, even if it’s not bodywork or things that you see visually, but things that you maybe can’t see that will give us lap time. So that’s our intent. “As we said before, we were quite proud of that last year and we’ve got the same resources, we’ve got the same finances, if not slightly better so it’s just down to us to get through that work, really.” Bringing the F1 news from the source RaceFans strives to bring its readers news directly from the key players in Formula 1. Stranded Dolphins May Be Getting Lost Because They Have Animal Alzheimer's Disease
— By Telegraph Reporters | 19 December 2022 • The Telegraph
Scientists examined the brains of different species of the aquatic mammal which ended up in dangerously shallow Scottish waters
A study found four animals from different dolphin species had some of the brain changes associated with human Alzheimer's disease
Dolphins may be getting stranded in Scottish waters because they are suffering from animal Alzheimer's disease, a study had suggested.
Scientists examined the brains of three different species of stranded dolphins, and they found them to show classic markers of human Alzheimer's disease.
The brains of 22 odontocetes, which had all been stranded in Scottish coastal waters, were analysed in research by the Universities of Glasgow, St Andrews and Edinburgh and the Moredun Research Institute in the Scottish capital.
The study, which is published in the European Journal of Neuroscience, included five different species - Risso's dolphins, long-finned pilot whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and bottlenose dolphins.
It found four animals from different dolphin species had some of the brain changes associated with human Alzheimer's disease.
The findings may provide a possible answer to unexplained live-stranding events in some odontocete species.
Group Leader May Have Become Confused
Study authors believe it could support the "sick-leader" theory, whereby an otherwise healthy pod of animals find themselves in dangerously shallow waters after following a group leader who may have become confused or lost.
Whales, dolphins and porpoises are regularly stranded around the coasts of the UK. They are often found stranded in groups, or pods, in shallow waters and sometimes on beaches.
While some animals can be moved to safer, deeper waters by teams of experts, other animals are less lucky and perish as a result. The underlying causes of live stranding events are not always clear, and research is ongoing to gain better insights.
For this study researchers examined stranded animals for the presence of the brain pathology that are part of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease, including the formation of amyloid-beta plaques, the accumulation of phospho-tau and gliosis (a change in cell numbers in response to central nervous system damage).
The results reveal that the brains of all of the aged animals studied had amyloid-beta plaques.
Three animals in particular - each from a different odontocete species - had amyloid-beta plaques as well as a number of other dementia-related pathologies in their brains, showing some species develop Alzheimer's-like neuropathology.
However, the study cannot confirm whether any of the animals would have suffered with the same cognitive deficits associated with clinical Alzheimer's disease in humans.
Lead researcher, Dr Mark Dagleish from the University of Glasgow, said: "These are significant findings that show, for the first time, that the brain pathology in stranded odontocetes is similar to the brains of humans affected by clinical Alzheimer's disease.
Further Research Required
"While it is tempting at this stage to speculate that the presence of these brain lesions in odontocetes indicates that they may also suffer with the cognitive deficits associated with human Alzheimer's disease, more research must be done to better understand what is happening to these animals."
Co-author, Professor Frank Gunn-Moore from the University of St Andrews, said: "I have always been interested in answering the question: do only humans get dementia?
"Our findings answer this question as it shows potential dementia associated pathology is indeed not just seen in human patients.
"This study is also a great example of both different research institutes, but also different branches of the Life Sciences working together."
Professor Tara Spires-Jones, of the University of Edinburgh, said: "We were fascinated to see brain changes in aged dolphins similar to those in human ageing and Alzheimer's disease.
"Whether these pathological changes contribute to these animals stranding is an interesting and important question for future work."
All animals in this research were studied after a stranding event. Marine Scotland and Defra fund post-mortem examinations, via the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme, of cetaceans (including odontocetes), pinnipeds and marine turtles that strand and die in Scottish coastal waters.
The paper, 'Alzheimer's disease-like neuropathology in three species of oceanic dolphin' is published in the European Journal of Neuroscience.

Inboard vs outboard saltwater
Tumblr media
They usually have more power than outboard boats around the same size.Should you even be considering an inboard to outboard conversion? Are inboard motors actually worse off than outboards? Let’s consider the pros and cons. If we take a step back from doing an inboard to outboard conversion, it makes sense to consider the advantages and disadvantages of inboard motors. Advantages and Disadvantages of Inboard Motors After talking to several of our friends who have done it or looked into out how much it would cost, we estimate an outboard to inboard conversion would cost between $25,000 to $35,000 when you factor in buying a new motor and all the labor associated with doing the transformation.Īuthor Note: If you can do the labor yourself it would probably cost between $15,000 and $20,000. How Much Does It Cost to Convert an Inboard to Outboard?Īnother big thing you should consider is how much an inboard to outboard conversion is going to cost. Removing the inboard engine and adding an outboard completely changes their weight distribution, and will change how they handle. Inboard boats (like Boice jet boats) are known for having great handling since their weight is more evenly distributed. You may need to add weight to the bow of your boat to prevent it from porpoising or having water splash over the transom in the back. This will most likely change how your boat handles – and usually not for the better. The first thing you’ll need to consider is how the telemetry of your boat will change with a heavy motor added to the back of it and the effective length increased with the addition of a setback bracket or offshore bracket. Here are all the things you should consider. Now that you’ve figured out if you can do an inboard to outboard conversion, it is time to ask yourself if it is worth it. Inboard to Outboard Conversion: Is It Worth It? And on top of that, you may end up with a boat that performs significantly worse than before. While these steps don’t sound super complicated, it will be an expensive proposition. You may need to adjust or make new bunk brackets on your trailer as well.Īuthor Note: After these steps, you’ll need to buy an outboard motor and mount it to the transom. You’ll need to add a new steering system to the boat since the old inboard prop or jet pump steering won’t work anymore. Next, you’ll need to make sure there is room for glassing an I/O plug in the transom and mounting a hydraulic steering system.

once a cheater...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: sarah cameron x fem!kook!reader, sarah cameron x john b routledge, topper thornton x fem!kook!reader (platonic/very minorly romantic)
description: once a cheater, always a cheater; that’s what everyone told y/n when her ex-girlfriend returns from the dead, and she was a fool not to listen.
warnings: cheating, light description of sex, angst, topper being a good friend, john b being a douche, slightly ooc sarah (but not really), john b and sarah slander
words: 3.3K
date posted: 28/03/22
Y/n had been proudly calling Sarah Cameron her girlfriend for almost six months when she discovered that she had been cheating on her. The relationship prior to that had been fairly good; Sarah was sweet to Y/n, and genuinely seemed interested in her, but as the school year turned to summer, Y/n could clearly tell that Sarah was pulling away.
Of course, Y/n had noticed it. Sarah began bailing on their plans, or acting dazed when they were together, but she was always quick to dismiss her or distract her in some way. Then, after going off in search of her girlfriend at Midsummer, she discovered that her fears were not, in fact, rational as she discovered Sarah in the arms of John Booker Routledge.
She remembered how Sarah tried to defend herself, and how John B even got protective of the blonde when Y/n began spitting vicious words at her, and the pain she felt in her hand as she connected it with his cheek, though she could scarcely recall anything after that until her burning rage turned into grief.
It was all only made worse when she’d discovered that Ward had let John B move into Tannyhill. Y/n had once taken pity on the boy, and had even been relatively nice to him back when he used to work on the Cameron’s boat, but she couldn’t help but hope that he would have been sent back to the shithole he called a house, and taken by DCS, as horrible as it may make her seem.
The weeks that followed were not easy by any means. Y/n had been devastated by Sarah’s betrayal, and later on, her presumed death. She sometimes wondered if she would have never recovered from it if it hadn't been for Topper, who stood by her the entire time. By the time that the summer was coming to an end, she was finally coming to terms with it all, up until she heard the news that John B and Sarah were both alive and back in the OBX.
“So how are you doing with all of this?” Topper bumped her shoulder as he walked alongside her, a brown paper bag of takeout swinging from his hand as they headed back to the docks, “As in the whole ‘Sarah-John B’ thing.”
Y/n shrugged, crossing her arms over her chest, “I’m trying not to pay attention to it all, honestly. I feel like I’ve just come a long way since everything at Midsummers.I don’t know if he did it or not; Hell, we all know that Rafe’s a loose cannon, and maybe he doesn’t deserve it, but I just can’t bring myself to give a fuck about what happens to him, as terrible of a person as it might make me.”
“I don’t think it does,” Topper shook his head, “They put you through hell. Hey, if that were me in your situation, I don’t even know what I would have done. I probably would’ve tried to kill him, at the very least.”
Y/n sniggered quietly, “I can’t say that the thought hasn’t crossed my mind. I mean– Do you hear that? Top, it sounded like something fell in the water.”
“Uh, yeah…” Topper turned his head in the direction of the sudden splashing, “It was probably like a porpoise or a bird or something.”
Y/n shook her head, following the sound of the continuous splashing, “I’m just gonna check it out. You head back to the Malibu.”
Topper shouted her name after her, uttering a swear as he took several quick steps to catch up with her. He finally slammed into her back as she came to a sudden halt, a sharp gasp escaping her lips as she caught sight of the familiar figure of Rafe Cameron, hunched over a large tub of water as he forced someone underneath.
“Rafe–” The person shrieked, a voice hoarse as they were barely able to get a gasp of air before they were forced back under.
Goosebumps ran over Y/n’s skin as the voice reached her ears, rushing forward to grab hold of the material of Rafe’s blue shirt in her fists, pulling with all her might as she yelled for him to let go. Rafe glanced over his shoulder, swinging his elbow back to connect with her jaw, knocking her back to the hard gravel. Topper soon took her place, successfully pulling Rafe away from the tub and occupying his attention long enough for Y/n to reach into water, helping the blonde girl out.
“Sarah!” Y/n pushed her wet hair out of her face, tugging her hoodie off of her own shoulders to throw it around Sarah as tremors ran through her body, “Are you okay? Can you breathe?”
“Y/n?” She murmured, leaning into the warmth of the sweater as her bottom lip began trembling. She moved her gaze to Topper, who finally sent Rafe running off.
“Jesus, are you okay?” He asked.
“No,” Her voice shook, “Not really.”
“Come on,” Y/n hooked her arm around Sarah’s shoulders, glancing at Topper, “We can give you a ride home–”
“I can’t go home.” Sarah sneered, “I can’t be around him. He wants me dead.”
The pair shared a glance, Topper clearly arguing against the offer that he knew she was about to make, though Y/n ignored him as she turned to the blonde, “You can stay at my place for the night. You can sleep in the guest house, no one even has to know that you’re there.”
Sarah’s large brown eyes gazed over at her ex-girlfriend, curiosity and confusion swirling through her brain as she wondered why exactly the girl who she’d cheated on and abandoned was being so hospitable to her.
“Uh, yeah. That would be good. Thank you.”
Topper walked on the other side of Sarah as Y/n led her across the dock to where they had parked the Malibu. His dark stare was glued to the side of Y/n’s face, though she was intentionally avoiding his gaze. He’d been very clear about his feelings towards Sarah after she had cheated on his best friend, and he might have been angrier than Y/n was, herself. He’d even warned her before they had started dating about Sarah’s reputation, but Y/n had been charmed by the Cameron girl and couldn’t care less about her past until it came back to bite her in the ass.
Sarah curled up at the back of the boat as Topper took his place at the wheel. Y/n gave Sarah one last look before moving to stand next to Topper as the boat pulled away from the dock. He glanced over his shoulder at the blond, making sure that she was out of ear shot before he leaned closer to the girl next to him.
“Y/n…”
“Please don’t, Topper,” She stared up at him, “I know what you’re going to say. I just… it’s Sarah. No matter what she did or how she hurt me, I couldn’t just leave her there.”
“I know,” He sighed, “I just… Y/n, I was the one to put you back together after she left. I don’t wanna see you go through that again.”
“I won’t,” She reached across and placed her hand over his on the wheel, catching his gaze, “I don’t want that either. I promise, it’s just one night, and then she's gone, ‘kay?”
Topper’s eyes shifted down to their hands momentarily, loosening his grip on the wheel to lace their fingers together, “Okay, I trust you.”
She leaned her head on his shoulder, “Thank you. And I’m sorry that I’m sort of ditching you on movie night.”
“It’s okay,” Topper smirked, “Just means that you owe me. Big time.”
Y/n snorted out a laugh, “Keep dreaming, pal.”
She bid him a quiet goodbye as he parked the boat along the dock behind her house, Sarah following behind her awkwardly as Y/n led her up to the large guest house.
“Here are some extra blankets,” Y/n dropped some linens on the double bed, turning to face the frazzled girl in the doorway, “The shower’s through there if you want to take one. Is there anything else you need before I head to bed?”
“Uh, no.” Sarah shook her head, “Thank you. Really, Y/n, you didn’t have to do any of this, especially after everything that happened between us.”
“Yeah, well I wasn’t just about to leave you. Rafe’s really been off his rockers the last few weeks, so I wouldn’t trust him to not try and kill just anyone in his path.”
“I mean, after the whole deal with Peterkin–” She paused as she registered the expression on Y/n’s features, “You don’t really believe that it was John B, do you?”
“I really don’t know what to believe, Sarah. I wasn’t there, so right now it’s your word against your family’s, and it wouldn’t be the first time that you hurt someone who loved you for John B.”
The blonde clamped her lips shut, wide eyes falling to the floor at the harsh words spat at her. Y/n wasted no more time before she turned on her heel, slamming the door to the guest house quietly as she made her way up the remainder of the dock to the large main house on her property.
The next morning, Y/n stepped out of her shower, wincing as she wiped the condensation from the large round mirror to reveal her reflection, including the black, swollen bruise that marred the flesh of her jawline. She let out a quiet whimper as she poked and prodded around it with her finger, swearing in frustration as it dawned on her that no amount of makeup would successfully cover such a mark. After putting on a few layers of concealer in hopes of avoiding too much attention, allowing her hair to dry a bit, and slipping into a dark blue bikini and covering up with denim cutoffs and a large sweatshirt that probably (definitely) belonged to Topper.
“Sarah?” She called as she poked her head into the guest house, “You up?”
The house was empty, crumpled sheets messily folded at the foot of the bed, but there was no other trace of Sarah having been there. Y/n furrowed her brow at the emptiness of the house, but quickly changed the sheets to hide the fact that her ex-girlfriend had stayed the night at her house, knowing how angry her parents would be with her simply for letting her back into her life. Between Topper and her parents, Y/n wasn’t sure who hated Sarah Cameron more for what she had done to her, though both were definitely more than Y/n could bring herself to.
A few days had passed since Sarah had evaded her house, and word had quickly spread that John Booker Routledge had been released from county jail and was cleared of all charges. Topper had done his best to keep Y/n distracted from everything that had to do with it, though it only made it more difficult after the arrest of Rafe Cameron, and his father’s explosive escape from justice. It was the talk of the town, afterall, though the kooks on Figure Eight were sure to mourn the death of Ward much more than they had for John B while he had been on trial.
“I just… I don’t know. I’ve been friends with the guy for years, and now he’s a murderer?” Topper shook his head, “It’s just crazy to me. I can’t wrap my head around it.”
“Me neither,” Y/n sighed, looping her arm through his as they walked down the beach together, cool water lapping at their bare feet as the tide began to come closer to the shore, “Everything’s just so different now, you know?”
He glanced over at her, “Different how?”
“I don’t know. Ward’s dead, Sarah and John B are just gonna be a thing now, I guess, and Rafe is… I’m not even sure what to call it. Maybe it was all meant to happen, you know, it was all too good for too long,” She tightened her grip on his arm, nudging her head against him, “I’m glad I still have you, though, Top. That’s one change that I don’t think I would be able to survive.”
Topper guffawed loudly, “Yeah right. Y/n, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed or not, but you’re like, this super badass chick and no matter what happens to you, you just always kinda roll with it.”
“Well, now that you mention it,” She smirked, “Maybe I would be, like, Queen of the Kooks if I stopped hanging out with degenerates like you.”
“Oh, that’s how it is?” He raised his brows at her, “So it would probably be better for the both of us if I didn’t give you a ride home later, then.”
“No,” She pinched his bicep, “Then it’ll be wholly on you when my body washes up on the shore.”
Topper visibly shivered harshly, “Don’t even joke about that.”
“Okay, okay. Geez, I didn’t realise that you were so concerned with my health, Top.”
He didn’t answer, instead turning his head to observe the shifting sand beneath their feet. He tugged his lip between his teeth, a heaving sigh falling from his lips.
“Hey,” She turned to face him, “What’s wrong? I really didn’t mean to upset you so much.”
“No, no,” He shook his head, “It’s not your fault. It’s just…”
“What?”
A small smile crossed his features, “Nothing. Come on, I’ve got SAT prep tomorrow morning, and mom will kill me if I miss it again.”
Y/n watched him with uncertainty, but slowly nodded, “Yeah, sure.”
The sun had finally set, and after being dropped off at her house by Topper, Y/n made herself comfortable among the various plush cushions on her bed, sighing in content as the minty face mask settled into her skin. The past few days had been extremely warm, and the UV rays had been extraordinarily high, which caused the cooling sensation that spread across her cheeks to feel euphoric. Setting a ten-minute timer on her phone, her head leaned back against the wooden headboard as her eyes fluttered closed, finally relishing in a moment of peace since the return of Sarah, John B’s trial and release from prison, the arrest of Rafe, and not to mention Ward Cameron’s explosive escape from justice… There was hardly a dull moment in the Outer Banks.
A small tapping against the glass brought her back to the real world, and another had her creeping towards the window, peeling her curtains away from the glass to peer out, completely forgetting the green slime that had covered her entire face. Her brow furrowed as she easily recognised the familiar blonde girl beneath her window, waving her arms wildly to get her attention.
“Sarah?” She kept her voice low in an attempt to keep her parents from hearing, “What are you doing here?”
The Cameron girl sniffled, wiping underneath her left eye with her sleeve, “I’m sorry. I didn’t know where else to go.”
Y/n didn’t want to feel bad for her. The girl had coaxed her into falling in love with her, then cheated with the guy who she told Y/n not to worry about, only to act as if Y/n was completely irrational. She wanted to hate Sarah for how horribly she had treated her, but she simply couldn’t. Not when she was standing in her backyard, tears tracking down her cheeks and suffering from the trauma of watching her father blow himself up.
“Uh, it’s okay,” She murmured, “Just give me a minute, I’ll come down.”
Y/n wiped her face clean and pulled a white sweatshirt over her head before sneaking down the stairs, stealthily slipping her feet into her sandals and sliding out the door.
“Do you, uh, do you wanna go for a walk or something?”
“Yeah,” Sarah nodded, “That would be good.”
The two stayed quite silent as they walked down the road, both avoiding the other’s eyes. Y/n peeked over at Sarah, admiring her round features in the moonlight, highlighted by tear tracks and red-rimmed brown eyes.
“I’m sorry about your dad.”
Sarah’s eyes flickered over to her, “Thanks. At least someone is.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I don’t know,” She shook her head, “It’s just… I know that Ward was a bad guy, and he did a lot of bad stuff; I mean, he was a murderer! But, everyone also seems to forget that at one point in my life, he was just my dad.”
Y/n nodded, “I get it. I mean, I definitely don’t, but I can at least try to understand. I don’t think anyone can blame you for mourning your dad.”
“John B did.”
Y/n rolled her eyes, not entirely surprised that she had found some way to bring him up, “Sarah–”
“We broke up.”
Sarah stepped in front of the girl, preventing him from walking any further. Her glossy eyes fought to hold contact with those of her ex-girlfriend.
“Sarah,” Y/n sighed, “I’m sorry about your dad, but you can’t really expect me to feel bad for you about John B.”
“I just–” Sarah whimpered, “He didn’t care. And then I started thinking that, maybe if I hadn’t ever gotten together with him, my dad would still be alive. And then, I thought about you, and how no matter what happened, you would have always stood by my side. I don’t expect you to forgive me, or to take me back, or anything… I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am. Really.”
Y/n wiped her eyes before any tears could fall, thinking over how to respond to Sarah’s words.
“Y/n, I don’t have anyone else. Please.”
She wanted nothing more than to tell her no; That she had hurt her too horribly and there was absolutely nothing that she could have done to convince her to take her back. She wanted to tell her no as their lips met, and again as the pair stumbled into the bedroom in their guesthouse, and again as Sarah stripped her of her clothes and brought her to climax time and time again. But Y/n had always been weak when it came to Sarah Cameron, so instead she said yes; She allowed her to kiss her, to strip her, and to touch her like she had so many times before, and she loved every moment of it. She relished in holding Sarah’s bare body in her arms once more, in her taste and smell.
Sarah stayed with her for the next week, each of their nights spent forcing pleasure onto one another incessantly. Sarah smiled at her when Y/n mumbled a declaration of love in the midst of her orgasm before repeating the words back to her.
Y/n had gone by Sarah’s house one morning, only to find it empty of nearly everything that the Cameron’s had held near and dear to their hearts. Sarah had already started to blow her off throughout the following weeks, coming up with lame excuses as to why she wasn’t answering her texts and distracting her with sex. Y/n was quick to recognise the similar pattern as the very same one from when Sarah had begun cheating on her months before, but she somehow convinced herself to believe otherwise. And then Sarah disappeared once more, and it became clear to Y/n that she had run off with John B once again.
“I’m sorry,” Topper ran his hand over her back in comforting circles and her body shook, heavy sobs wracking her body as her tears soaked through the cotton of his t-shirt, “And I hate to say that I told you so… but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Y/n–”
“Once a cheater, always a cheater…”

A manatee with the name “Trump” etched into its back was found in Florida’s Homosassa River over the weekend, prompting federal officials to open an investigation into this disturbing disfigurement of a threatened animal, according to the Citrus County Chronicle.
While it remains unclear when and how the manatee was mutilated—or if the ongoing investigation has secured any leads about the perpetrators—footage of the vandalized animal has sparked widespread outrage and revulsion.
The mutilation is “one of the most horrifying things I have ever seen done to a wild animal,” said Douglas Nowacek, Repass-Rodgers University Professor of Conservation Technology at Duke University, in an email.
“This act is horrific,” said Ruth Carmichael, a Senior Marine Scientist at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and a Professor of Marine Sciences at the University of South Alabama, in an email. “I have no words to express how deeply troubling, thoughtless, and potentially cruel this is.”
The West Indian manatee is a herbivorous marine mammal found in coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. The species was considered endangered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service until 2017, when their conservation status was downlisted to “threatened.”
Though manatees are beloved by the public for their rotund bodies and curious temperaments, those same qualities also make them vulnerable to human threats such as boat strikes and, in this case, harassment.
Marine biologists said it was difficult to assess how much harm was done to the animal using only video footage.
“It’s a little hard to see the extent of damage from the video,” said Carmichael. “It is harassment regardless. If the scrape penetrates the skin, then it likely caused some pain and stress. The animals have nerves and sensory hairs in the skin. Additionally, open wounds could become infected.”
Graham Worthy, Department Chair and Pegasus Professor at the University of Central Florida, said the letters look to be shallow, and may be mostly algae scraped off the animal’s back. In that case, the “ injury would be virtually non-existent,” he said in an email.
Even if the manatee did not suffer serious injuries, harassment of these animals can result in severe penalties if the perpetrators are found.
“Violations of the Marine Mammal Protection Act may result in fines of up to $100,000 and one year's imprisonment for individuals and up to $200,000 for organizations,” Worthy noted. “It is illegal to approach and make contact with these animals let alone deface or injure them. It is illegal to feed or harass wild marine mammals including dolphins, porpoises, whales, seals, sea lions, and manatees.”
“You are not allowed to feed, swim with, or harass these marine animals,” he concluded. “They should be observed from a distance of at least 50 yards.”

hello! i really enjoy reading your observations about snowdrop and i thought i’d add my 2 cents lol.
is it just me or do you also find it ironic that the govt that’s framing innocent protesters as North Korean spies, is the same govt that’s literally in bed with North Korean and their spies? and you can tell sort of clearly that if it wasn’t for youngro + elections being so close by + the deal with North Korea, the ANSP ppl would not have had any qualms about killing a few hostages if they could have killed the spies. and this isn’t really related to the direct plot of the show, but what made (non-Korean) people think that a show made by koreans, broadcasted by a Korean company, with a stellar korean cast would distort history so bad they’d show the bad guys as good guys? i’m not trying to tell koreans how they should feel about this issue, that’s entirely up to them, but for the others, it just doesn’t make sense. this was a huge movement that a lot of innocent ppl suffered for, so why would the producers (including ppl within the broadcasting company), some of whose relatives were probably a part of the innocent victims of a ruthless govt., want to distort it to say that the suffering of those innocent ppl was in any way justified? like yea sure it’s going to be streamed on D+ too, but their main audience was always korea? so why would they want to distort their own history? and i’m not a 100% clear on this, but i think the show from the 2nd episode is set in a different time period than when the movements took place? i could be very wrong about that so pls correct/ignore me if that part of it is wrong. i’m still reading up on the history. idk if this was clear, but i wanted to voice my thoughts out, so thank you for giving me a space to do that. again, i’m not saying that koreans shouldn’t feel offended about this drama, or anything like that. they are entitled to their feelings about it, i just wanted to share my thoughts.
Hey hey hey! Thank you so much for the ask! 🤎
Well, I’m not very well versed in Korean history. But from my limited understanding of this aspect of history, that is the point. At the time, the South Korean government wasn’t a good one, and that is what the show is portraying. As for the North Vs. South, they have a very complicated relationship that dates to present day as well. The North isn’t as off limits to SK, as the rest of the world is (reminder that the kpop group Red Velvet went and performed in NK without a problem 😂). So there’s also that nuance. People look at NK from the American lense, and not from a SK lense. So I understand how that part of the show may be confusing for people who don’t understand the complexities. Now I don’t want to get into the politics of it all cause A) I’m not Korean and it’s just simply not my place and B) honestly my knowledge is limited. I am West-Asian so I understand the gist and context, cause a lot similar things have happened In the Middle East too (I’m Iranian, the Iranian revolution says hi😂). So I get it. But to sit and discuss the complexities? It’s just not my place and it’s also gonna take a loooong time as Asian politics is a lot more complicated since it has thousands upon thousand years of history mixed in there too. Unlike say an America that is barely 300 years old.
As for the main audience, I will disagree with you there. I don’t think it was actually made for Koreans. I’ve actually talked about this before here on one of my asks, but the fact that the brought in Kim Jisoo for a show like this, proves that it was always intended for the international audience. Cause realistically, they shouldn’t have given Jisoo such a controversial/political first leading role… unless it was done on propose. And that porpoise being the international audience, as she’s one of the biggest international starts in Korea. Not to mention the whole Disney+ marketing campaign, which is icing on the cake.
As for the time periods, the show isn’t even about the movement. It’s taking place in November-December, before the election. The movements were taken place in June. So it’s not even about the democratic movement.
As for you, thank you so much for trusting me and venting out your opinions! It’s always such a wonderful thing to see people just talking out loud. It’s completely okay if people don’t fully understand a concept. I feel like this whole idealistic approach of “eDuCaTe yOuR sElF” is a lot easier said than done. Particularly with Snowdrop, I’ve seen a lot people here on Tumblr expecting average 15 year old international fans to go open history textbooks of South Korea… and I’m like… it’s a show. Like I completely understand it’s significance to South Koreans, but for international fans that’s just not a realistic option. So to see people being dragged and insulted because they don’t know the history of a foreign country is very bizarre to me. And this is coming from someone who absolutely DESPISES international kpop/Kdrama fans cause more often than not they’re ironically xenophobic and subtly imperialistic and have no sense of cultural sensitivity. Having said that, in this specific case, I would say its absolutely okay not to be fully aware of the situation, as it’s just not a realistic approach. As long as you don’t insult Koreans or call them things when it comes to THEIR history, you’re good. They have a right to their culture and history, regardless of if we agree or not. It’s theirs, and not ours. But you also have a right to not know about the details of the politics of a foreign country. That is not your responsibility, and it’s okay not to know.
Again, thank you so much for this! ❤️

Bahrain Grand Prix Review
The season is underway, and began with a promising opening race. Yes, it wasn’t thrilling throughout, yet you can never complain when there is a great battle for the lead, and plenty of overtaking besides that. These regulations do seem to have worked as intended, we were never going to have Hollywood races every weekend, instead, it is just producing more opportunities for drivers to pass slower cars.
It is rather incredible to witness the rebirth of an icon of the sport, as Ferrari have been resurrected by these wholesale changes in the rules. All last year, we were talking about the potential of Ferrari using this to vault up the grid, but I don’t think we believed it would go this well for them. Major respect has to be given to Binotto and his fellow management, for motivating the team through some tough times, under all the pressure they had. As for the drivers, they did their job too, with Leclerc stepping into an unofficial lead role at the team, which will likely be contested all year, and taking the fight to Max all weekend. He really is looking like the favourite for the title right now. Sainz did have a tough weekend, not able to get near Charles at any point. He will surely bounce back though in the coming races. The rest of the season is an unknown for Ferrari, as it is for every team, but momentum is truly on their side.
They may not have finished there, but Red Bull had the second fastest car all weekend. It was expected that they wouldn’t be able to match last years pace, just as a result of putting so much effort into 2021, so it is impressive to see their pace at the moment. Verstappen was picking up where he left off, leading the team, and taking the fight to an arguably faster Ferrari, but he couldn’t topple them. That wasn’t the worst of it though, as the team suffered major reliability issues, both with steering racks, and apparently fuel pumps, which caused both drivers to retire. Perez had been doing excellently until then, hounding Sainz for the last spot on the podium. These issues not only cost them a huge bag of points, but highlight some potential issues for the rest of the season. Maybe this will be where the focus on 2021 hurts them!
After no one believed them for the past few weeks, the reality of the situation has dawned on the paddock, and wider sport, as Mercedes are truly the third fastest car right now. Porpoising is the problem, and when they fix it, I do think Ferrari and Red Bull have a challenge on their hands. Bearing all that in mind, they did all they could in the race, and may even count themselves lucky. Hamilton drove just as anyone would expect, maximising the car, and helping the team move forwards. Russell’s pace was very impressive, as he pretty much matched Lewis over the stints, only slightly slower. This shows what a talent he could be in the future. Their performance in the coming races all hinges on whether they can fix the bouncing issue.
This weekend belongs to Ferrari; however, the feel good story was Haas, who are somehow 3rd in the constructors right now. They have Magnussen to thank for that, who came back to the sport all guns blazing, and was almost challenging the Mercedes. This has given him another chance to advertise his talents, and he probably won’t be leaving Haas for a few years now. Schumacher was overshadowed by his teammate, and even accounting for the contact and spin with Ocon, he should have done better in the race probably. Let’s just hope he is taking time to get to terms with the new car, which we have seen be the case in the past. Will this be a one off for the team? There is the argument, that during testing, Haas got more running in representative conditions due to freight issues, which may have elevated their pace. That being said, I can’t see a huge drop in pace from them by the next race.
Alfa Romeo, just like Haas, have had a turn around over the winter, to go from the back to the front, and I don’t think it is a coincidence that all 3 Ferrari powered teams made huge gains over the break. Bottas will surely be glad that Mercedes dopped him now, as he will get so much more respect from the fans for finishing 6th in an Alfa Romeo, than being beaten by Lewis in a Mercedes. We always knew he had a lot of talent, he just wasn’t quite on a level with Lewis. Just as impressive was Zhou, who managed to just get some points on his debut. Not only was his pace solid, but he was able to pass cars, and said that he gained a lot of confidence on the brakes during the race. Hopefully the rest of his season goes better than Tsunoda’s last year.
Alpine were firmly in the points for most of the race, and it does look as though the battle between them, Haas, Alfa Romeo, and AlphaTauri could be brilliant this year. Ocon did not cover himself in glory with his move on Mick, but recovered to beat Alonso, which is never a bad result. Otherwise, it was a quiet race for them. As I mentioned, AlphaTauri were battling for the points in the race, and Tsunoda did manage to bag some, despite the issues for Gasly. If he can be more consistent this year, and not crash as much, AlphaTauri look to have a great car underneath them.
I don’t even know what to say about McLaren, as even with the brake issues, no one thought it would be this bad for them. We have no idea how deep these issues are, and whether we will only see it at Bahrain, however, I don’t feel confident about the rest of their season. This is not what either Lando or Daniel signed up for.
It is a similar story for Williams and especially Aston Martin, who look equally as deflated as McLaren. They seem to have missed the design of the cars by a fair way, which it was hoped would not happen with the new regulations. On the other hand, it could just be them not being used to the car yet, but that might just be wishful thinking.
Looking back at my pre-season pecking order a week ago, my gut was correct for the front half of the field, but way off on the rest. That just shows how big these rule changes were, and it has really left some teams scratching their heads. On to Saudi Arabia next, where the chaos could be turned up to another level, on that tight, high speed circuit.

[UPDATED: Complete Guide] Are you interested in watching Adventure Time, but intimidated by the thought of watching 283 episodes? Have you watched the series before, but want to watch again without any filler episodes (unless it’s Bubbline, of course?) This is for you!
After seeing several requests, I have compiled the complete list of all the Adventure Time episodes that contain major plot, important backstory, major characterization, and/or Bubbline moments. I have also included optional episodes that I think will increase your understanding/enjoyment of the show (I put the reason next to it; if it says something about being an arc, backstory, characterization, etc., be warned that not watching may make the major plot points of the show a bit more confusing for you).
I condensed the show down to 153 of the 10-minute episodes (91 episodes if you don’t watch any of the optional episodes). Optional episodes are in italics. Episodes with Bubbline moments, characterization of Marcy/Princess Bubblegum (PB), or major backstory/plot related to Marcy/PB are in bold. Anything with a an asterisk (*) can be watched at any time (order doesn’t matter, though you may still want to watch it in the same season).

I don’t understand how you can support such a cruel company??? Definitely recommend watching blackfish or the cove, those animals are tortured for their whole lives for $$$&
Alright, since you are already dead set on your beliefs I won’t spend a great deal of time trying to dissuade you, but here it is:
I don’t hold SW on some pedestal and think they are the greatest thing ever. In fact I will be the first to bring them down and talk about some of the problems that the company has had over the years.
Yes, SW has done bad things. Animals have died. Trainers have been injured/killed.
Yes, SW has helped speed up and create operating standards for marine mammal captivity scenarios. They have been the blueprint for other marine parks all over the world.
Yes, the company has lost its main focus and is letting its animals languish in outdated facilities, and has held a deaf stand to its guests concern for said animals.
Yes, I have seen Blackfish/The Cove. I did my own research and I’m not convinced on these films. They are not documentaries. Especially after it came out that Cowperthwaite based the narrative on a script written by Zimmerman, and purposely staged herself in the ending scene of the charity walk for Dawn. The film itself took jaded ex-trainers and had them read off words and scenarios over footage of actual trainers. The film purposely used footage and dramatic scenes/dialogue to make the viewer feel uncomfortable, but had no idea that the footage has no association with what was being shown (ex: open mouthed Katina shown while discussing Kasatka/Takara separation and non-orca vocals are being played in the background). Ex-trainers talked about scenarios that occurred after they left the company or transferred out of Shamu Stadium. Another ex-trainer, who won’t be mentioned, wrote in his own book that he didn’t know what to say when he was being filmed and that Cowperthwaite  gave him lines. He also took back certain things he said during the film/aftermath, stating he had lied just for the film. Such text has been removed from the reprints of his book. As tragic a the Taiji drive hunts are, and I am glad that they are now being publicly displayed and contested, Rick and Dolphin Project have continued to operate on unstable grounds, often jumping blindly into sea pen projects and claiming victory, or even releasing animals not rehabilitated from human care.
Just because you watched something on the internet or TV, doesn’t mean its 100% credible.
That being said, this does no forgive SW. Or how the company reacted to the film. Or Dawns death. Or the continued decline of its captive animals.
So, why do I go there?
A) Its a job. I have bills to pay. I have worked and been certified in large scale aquatic systems. Have I personally seen things that make me second guess things? Not really. Pipes rust, or PVC cracks, or acrylic will crack/bend and leak over time. All facilities go through this. How the facility responds to this is important, and SW has always repaired or replaced anything we have deemed necessary. I have never seen direct neglect or harsh punishment to their animals.
B) I have spent a great deal of time with these animals, not as a trainer but as a guest. Let me make this clear: these are not my whales. They are not my pets or animals I work with everyday. But I have seen them grow, have babies, learn new behaviors, and battle illness. I have grown attached to them. But at a respectful distance. I do not worship them, I do not act as a groupie or block other guests. I am happy to share my knowledge or answers questions with other guests in the park. But at the end of the day, they can’t come home with me. I can’t touch them or tell them its okay. I can only think of them and look back on photographs.
These are not my whales
C) As much as people like to point out the bad, there has been some good in the company. The rescue of 36,000 animals is no small feat, even if the majority of those animals are birds. You cannot hold the life of one animal over the other, every rescue is a significant return. SW is also the only facility in a given area that has the pool system and vet team needed to care for rescued animals. Something as simple as a cold stunned manatee, a boat struck dolphin, to a sea turtle full of plastic bags. SW has always been ready to accept these animals. In San Diego, changing seas and weather has lead to unusually high amount of seal rescues, mainly pups abandoned by their mothers. Other facilities have been overrun, and SW has stepped in to provide formula and boats for release. Along with their rescue efforts, their varied animal catalogue makes them favorable by other rescue agencies for permanent homes for animals that cannot be returned to the wild. NOAA has chosen SW parks several times for animals that need a home, a decision made against other facilities.
D) Despite outward failings within the company, I have seen a positive change in the management of the cetaceans. Making sure that EEDs, proper diet, exercise and mental stimulation, and access to pod mates, has been heavily restructured throughout the parks. Some is in response to the ending of waterworks, the breeding ban on orca, and movement of animals within the park systems (beluga/dolphins). People often forget that trainers are the true workers of the system, they work tirelessly to make sure the animals are healthy. While they have been removed, the addition of live fish and other sea creatures to the pools was a huge step in making changes to the orcas. This does not mean that things are perfect and that massive changes still need to occur. Batter the corporate figureheads, not the trainers.
E) Should the company fail, the ideal of the whales being retired to a sea pen sounds great. But it is a new concept, and not a true answer. The money needed to establish, maintain, and feed these animals is enormous. And will go on for many years. It is not a one time deal. The more realistic solution would be the company selling to highest bidders in China, and with no facility open in the US, a CITES permit would have to be written. A trained viable fertile female has a price tag of $10-20 million. If even one of the parks was to close, moving the animals to another park would be stressful. As much as it tries the patience of those concerned about the parks, building new coasters is a sure fire way to gain attendance numbers and rebuild the company stock. Had Covid not happened, a few more years of coasters and positive stock trend would have allowed the company the capital needed to upgrade its animals enclosures. Now the company is in limbo again. Also the board needs a reset. A HARD RESET.
I’m rambling. A thing I said I wasn’t going to do. But I’m not abandoning these animals. I realize that hundreds of people see and film these animals everyday. And they may post it online for others to see. But do they know who that animal is, or what he is doing, or if something is wrong? I visit these parks, outside of my job, to photograph and record what I can of these animals. So others can remember them. And learn about them. SW always talks about the connections you can make with these animals, and its true. I remember the first time I saw Shamu in Sandusky Ohio. I was young, but I stood stunned at this massive animal at the glass, that was looking right back at me. From that day I poured over every scrap of information I could find about them. I wanted to be a marine biologist. My life took a different direction, but I never forgot them. And when I finally got free time, I was right back at it. On boats taking notes, wiping sea spray off my cameras, listening to radios for sightings. I spent weeks on boats with no sight of what I had always wanted to see, a wild whale. I saw dolphins, humpback, grey, dozens of porpoises speeding by, even blue whales, but never that holy grail that was a orca. But I could see them at SW. I could look at them and they would look right back at me. That was the connection I had. And it is something I will never lose. I will always be looking for that wild whale. But I will always remember those that remain at SW.

Wolff confident Mercedes can offer Hamilton chance for eighth world title
Toto Wolff believes Mercedes have delivered a car ready to join the fight for the Formula One world championship this season as it hit the track for the first test in Bahrain. The Mercedes team principal expressed his confidence that after an extremely disappointing season last year, this time the team had built a solid enough platform with their car to offer seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton a chance to compete for his eighth title. Last year Mercedes were well off the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari, their car suffering extensively from porpoising and then later from a separate bouncing issue severely affecting its performance. However on the first day of testing at the Sakhir circuit Wolff was optimistic that the car was a world away from last year’s recalcitrant ride. “You need to provide a good car for a driver that has the ambition to win races and championships and we have that,” he said. “We want to win. At this stage last year, we knew we were in trouble because the car was bouncing around and we were not able to drive it correctly. Today, it is very different. The car seems to be balanced in the right way. There is no bouncing which is good news. It is a good starting point.” The world champion Max Verstappen topped the timesheets for Red Bull in the morning session, continuing the form he and the team displayed on a dominant run to both titles last year. In the afternoon Verstappen was on top once more, in front of the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in third and Hamilton in sixth. With only three days of testing this year before the first round next weekend, the teams focused on putting in the miles to shake down their cars rather than lap time. Wolff said Hamilton’s teammate George Russell was happy with the car and its balance, a key area which last year made its performance unpredictable from track to track, another issue they appear to have addressed. “I think we have a solid base now to work from and try to optimise the car, which we haven’t done yet,” said Wolff. For Hamilton this is the start he wanted too. Now entering his 17th year in the sport 2022 was his first season without scoring a single win and in which he was sixth, his lowest finishing position since his debut in 2007. On Thursday F1 also announced the calendar for the inaugural season of its all-female F1 Academy series. The championship, created and backed by the sport’s owners is intended to help nurture and develop young female talent in racing with a view to them advancing into F1, which has not had a woman driver since Lella Lombardi participated in the Austrian Grand Prix in 1976. Quick Guide F1 Academy calendar for 2023 Show Austria (Spielberg) 8-29 April Spain (Valencia) 5-7 May  Spain (Barcelona) 19-21 May  Netherlands (Zandvoort) 23-25 June  Italy (Monza) 7-9 July France (Le Castellet) 29-30 July United States (Austin) 20-22 October The season will consist of seven rounds each hosting three races, with the final meeting taking place over the weekend of the US GP at the Circuit of the Americas in October. Six drivers so far have been confirmed to race in teams with experience of running young drivers from the F2 and F3 field, including Britain’s Jessica Edgar and Abbi Pulling who was formerly in the all-female W Series. The future of the W Series remains in doubt after it had to end its championship early last season due to a financial shortfall and has yet to issue any confirmation it will return to racing this year. via Formula One | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/sport/formulaone

NOTICE FROM THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE COORDINATION
AND PROJECTS OPERATION COMMAND OFFICE
There is nothing new to report regarding SPC-001 at this time.
Test subject displaying the results of his exposure to SPC-001.
Project #: SPC-001
Selachian Pugnātorial Capabilities: Individuals enhanced with SPC-001 display a dramatic improvement in pugilistic prowess and have consistently proven capable of easily dispatching 90% of squaloid entities in simulations, even with no prior training. Furthermore, SPC-001 subjects have reported a radical elevation in coastal requiescence position retention, even when under assault from extragranular sedimentary weaponry.
Project Components: SPC-001 is a manmade chemical substance which augments the biological strength and dexterity of human beings. After initial exposure to SPC-001, subjects will undergo a steady increase in muscle mass over the following 72 hours, accompanied by heightened energy levels and adroit perception of their surroundings. Increased lung capacity and resistance to deep-sea hydrostatic pressure are common side effects.
Following the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION and the subsequent activation of the ALL HANDS ON DECK PROTOCOL, SPC agents embedded in the food industry began introducing discreet amounts of SPC-001 into numerous products intended for public consumption. Centre researchers have projected a full global saturation of SPC-001 to be achieved by the year ████. In the event that the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION ends before global saturation can be achieved, more aggressive means of SPC-001 dispersal may be undertaken to prevent a complete End-of-World K/O Failure Scenario.
Nascency Impetus: On May 16, ████, all observed selachian entities across the globe simultaneously demanifested, including those in SPC captivity. No selachian entities or evidence of the continued presence of selachian entities have been observed since. A Maximum State of Emergency was declared soon after by the Executive Pugilist Assembly and the phenomenon was codified as the DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION. It is the belief of the Assembly that the selachians are congregating in preparation for the FINAL CONFLICT, an event foretold by Elder Pugilord Azmanititas in the Centre's original constitutional documents in 1451.
[08:23] DrTsega: Did you get all that?
[08:23] DrTsega: No? Okay, I'll break it down for you.
[08:26] DrTsega: I was part of a group known as the Selachian Punching Centre. An organization dedicated to fighting the menace that plagued our oceans. "We punch underwater so you can live on the land." That's what we used to say.
[08:27] DrTsega: I know what you're thinking.
[08:29] DrTsega: Yes. It was us keeping you safe the entire time. The Centre safeguarded mankind for centuries. Civilization as we knew it wouldn't have been possible if we weren't around. Our influence was unparalleled, extending to every level of every government, changing the course of world events, yet remaining a complete secret from everybody, which was really quite tricky.
Then, one day, the selachian menace disappeared. Our immediate reaction was one of disbelief, followed by euphoria, followed by raucous celebration. We danced. We drank ourselves stupid. We sang the songs of our forefathers. The orgies weren't officially sanctioned, of course, but boy howdy-doo were they tremendous.
Sadly, our revelry wasn't meant to last.
"DREAD PORPOISE COMMUNION", the Assembly called it. The prophesied gathering of every selachian, big or small. Every sharp, slimy, putrid horror that haunted our dreams, coming together in one place to bring about the end of all other life on our beautiful, green planet.
"But fear not," said our trusted Assembly. They told us that the human race would fight back. They said that when the selachians returned with their armies and squaloid murder-drones, we would be ready.
And they were right. We were ready. Thanks to SPC-001, we managed to get the entire human race fighting fit. At first people were alarmed when everyone started getting super ripped for no apparent reason, but then they realized it was awesome and the panic died down. Within a few months, every man, woman, and child was a lean, mean, punching machine. Even babies had abs you could wash your clothes on. It seemed like everything was going fine.
And that's how it went for the first couple of years: fine. Sure, boxing had to be outlawed once folks could punch with the same Newtonian force as your average car crash, and there were a few riots now and then over tank top shortages, but for the most part everything felt normal.
Year three, people started getting antsy. We had kept ourselves busy at the Centre by devising new weapons for selachian warfare, but every innovation felt hollow with a lack of anything to use them on. We grew listless. Surely the assault would begin any day, right?
Year four. There was an aura of dread hanging over the whole organization. I remember sitting in the Site-71 cafeteria, eating pickled cabbage and creamed corn salads with my comrades, when I finally heard someone ask aloud what we'd all wondered in the dark corners of our heads.
"What if they don't come back?"
It was Simmons who said that, of course. Of course. I kicked him in the face—a punch would have really hurt him—but the damage was done. It's a scary thought, losing your purpose in life. Faced with that kind of existential ennui, it's no wonder that everyone responded by flipping their shit. Hersberger screamed and started smearing her salad all over her face. Gertzler stabbed his fork tines into his cheek with no visible emotion. Bühler just broke down and cried until his tears turned to blood.
But Schwartzentruber was downright fuming. Started shouting all sorts of obscenities. Said he'd shove his fist down Simmons' throat and rip out his toenails from the inside. And Simmons was all defensive, "you all were thinking it" and that kind of stuff. The two kept going at it. We shouldn't have just sat there and watched, but no one thought fists would ever get involved. How could we have known?
I remember the entire cafeteria going silent. One moment, the two colleagues had been arguing. Next thing we knew, Schwartzentruber was wearing Simmons' face around his arm like a bracelet. Fist went straight through. Nobody knew what to say. Hersberger just picked the brain matter from her hair. There was no finishing our dinner after something like that.
We all tried to write it off as an isolated incident, an unhinged employee who forgot his own strength in a moment of pure emotion. That illusion was shattered when reports started coming in from the other sites. Similar incidents were happening all over the world, and within a few weeks it wasn't just limited to SPC personnel. These arms were made for punching, and that's just what they did.
As time went on, it became harder for us to fight the itch. Punching bags were laughable at that point, so instead we invented punching blocks out of a titanium-concrete composite. Even fashioned them into the shape of selachians to help take the pain away, but it still wasn’t enough. Whenever we came close to a cure, someone would end up atomizing the equipment with a flick of the wrist and we'd have to start over.
Eventually, one day I walked into the cafeteria and found the floor covered in what must have been two inches of blood. I thought maybe a pipe had burst until I saw Bühler sitting on a table in the corner. Guy was slathered in viscera from top to bottom, and he was wearing human heads around his arms like they were snap bracelets. I asked if he wanted to talk, but he didn't answer. He just stared at his fists and trembled. Then, in the blink of an eye, he was dead, hole in his beefy chest so big I coulda driven my Grampy's Volvo through it.
That was what broke me, I think. I had never seen someone self-pugilate before. I didn't know how many people were still alive in Site-71, but I knew that I would not perpetuate the carnage. I gathered some medical supplies from the surgical augmentations lab and tied a tourniquet around my burgeoning, well-defined bicep. Carefully, I injected myself with the nearest substance that resembled an anesthetic and bid my guns goodbye.
Screaming, writhing, I hacked off my arm using only a pair of rusty toenail clippers. Needless to say, I was dizzy from pain, blood loss, and the 5 CCs of green apple daiquiri I'd injected myself with, but somehow I managed to drag myself back to the cafeteria to cauterize my stump in the kitchen's oven. Barely clinging to consciousness, I set the oven to preheat, wrapped my stump in a tent of foil, and stuck it inside, turning regularly to promote an even cauter and applying a light baste to keep it moist.
When the bleeding stopped, I went back and repeated the process with my other arm. The second time was harder, I think. With no free hands remaining, I was forced to grip the toenail clippers with my teeth. I also ran out of baste. It was the most agonizing experience I could ever possibly fathom, but here I am. Alive. My cannonball deltoids still ripple with pugilistic vigor now and then, but the stubs are too short to be lethal.
And that's it. That's my story. That's how I ended up here, barricaded alone in an underground facility, typing on a keyboard with my tongue. I haven't been able to get in touch with any other Centre sites, and I can't leave the building. Every day I lose a little more hope. My personal hygiene has suffered, too—partly because I can't look at a pair of clippers without bursting into tears. My toenails are getting really long now. I'll probably have to use a pair of scissors or something. I could even use that electric carving knife I got for my birthday. Hell, I think there's a chainsaw in the supply closet. No shortage of options, really.
Even if I'm alive now, there's no telling how long that will last. Sometimes I hear people punching on the reinforced doors, desperate to break in and claim another victim to slake their drunken punchlust. Someday they may succeed. There's enough food left around to keep me going a while, though just for a while. I've kept my mind occupied and my spirits up by watching Dr. Cavender's Walking Dead box sets, but I can feel that post-Season-Six quality drop looming just around the corner.
Maybe this was their plan all along. Maybe they just left the planet, knowing full well we'd destroy ourselves. Maybe when the last human has passed their final breath, the selachians will return from wherever they went and feast on our tight, sculpted corpses. Or maybe they're happier where they are now. Maybe they're not coming back. I hope that's not the case. As much as it pains me to say it: I miss them.
I miss sharks.
[23:19] DrTsega: With all the squats I've been doing, I could probably pop their heads between my fucking thighs.
[23:20] DrTsega: pop 'em just like cherries. hell yeah
